₊˚ପ⊹ RIN guides you by your waist. when you’re playing around and purposely blocking his path, his arms stretch out to take a hold of you before effortlessly reversing your positions with the click of his tongue and an easy, lazy smirk. it’s also one of the few physical actions he’ll display in public, preferring it over holding hands or slinging an arm around your shoulders. he can see you this way, keep you in his sights. when you’re not paying any mind to your surroundings and nearly walk into traffic, he pulls you into him and gives you a squeeze, leaning down to whisper “be careful” against your skin. you jump at his touch and the feel of his breath tickling your ear, cheeks burning with the reminder of where his hands were roaming and exploring the night before.

₊˚ପ⊹ SHIDOU walks around the apartment in sweatpants that hang incredibly low on his hips. your focus shifts from the pot of water you’re waiting to boil to ryusei as he pads into the kitchen after finishing his shower. beads of water drip from his hair onto his bare chest and roll down his tanned skin until they reach his v-line. you don’t realize the water on the stove has come to a boil until shidou clears his throat, jerking his head at the stove. “you’re staring real hard, pretty,” he drawls with a lazy grin. it only takes a few strides for him to close the gap between the two of you. his hands grip the counter on either side of you, trapping you in place as fuchsia eyes filled with mischief stare down at your figure. “something more you wanna see?”

₊˚ପ⊹ OLIVER intently stares at your lips whenever you’re talking. to be fair, each conversation starts with his eyes on yours but they always happen to drift down to your mouth. he takes in their natural pout and the subtle shine that your chapstick leaves behind on them. eventually, his mind begins to wander. he thinks about how soft they would feel sucking hickeys onto the pulse of his neck and across his collarbone or wrapped around the head of his—"are you even listening?“ you ask with crossed arms, the corners of your lips turnings down in a frown. "of course i am,” he tells you, finally dragging his gaze up to your eyes. “i just hear you better this way, that’s all.”

₊˚ପ⊹ REO puts his hands over yours every time you reach for your wallet to pay. he can feel the way your fingers wriggle beneath his palm, but he ignores the movement, intertwining his fingers with yours while he pulls out his card and hands it to the cashier. he’s got more money to his name than he knows what to do with, so it only makes sense for him to spoil you. he might smile and breathe out a laugh when you slap his shoulder and frown, sulking about how you feel bad for spending all his money, but he hears you. if you really feel like paying him back, he can think of a couple of ways you could do so—some that are better suited taking place in the bedroom.

₊˚ପ⊹ KAISER tilts your chin up with his finger whenever you refuse to look at him. it shouldn’t surprise you, seeing him offer fans smiles and hugs, but you can’t help but think about it when the two of you are taking your leave. “are you seriously mad?” he asks from beside you, and it wouldn’t have upset you if he didn’t laugh like it was unreasonable. you scoff and roll your eyes but before you’re able to make it any closer to the door, you’re being tugged back. all too suddenly, kaiser is in front of you, his hooked finger angling your head up and forcing you to meet his azure gaze. “you know i only have eyes for you, right?” he murmurs, like his words are meant for you and you alone. he’ll show you that his statement holds true when you get home.

₊˚ପ⊹ YUKIMIYA uses the bottom of his shirt to wipe away his sweat. on the occasion that you accompany him to a weekend practice or individual workout, you tend to look out for it. after the intense training when he’s cooling down, you watch attentively as he drags the hem of his shirt across his upper lip to collect the beads of perspiration. the motion leaves his abdomen exposed, putting the defined lines of his abs and the trail of dark hair peeking out from his shorts on display. your staring isn’t as discreet as you think it is but yukimiya doesn’t mind it. even after he catches you gawking, he keeps his shirt pulled up so as to not interrupt your view. when finally do look up at him, he’s peering at you over his glasses, tongue running along his lower lip.

A change in your rival's personality is be nothing serious. So, the look of longing in their eyes, the comments that seem more flirtatious than threatening, are fine, right?

Making an enemy out of ISAGI is surprisingly straightforward, considering his more laid-back personality compared to everyone else at least.

Simply just be a bit of a diva (become Kaiser 2.0). Confidently brag about how much better you are than him and he’s a bit hopeless, isn’t he? It won’t be long before he begins to get pretty irritable around you, feeling a strong urge to curse you out anytime you speak.

It’s not the ego he minds, really, but you’re just so you.

With a smirk, you peer over his shoulder as he struggles to catch his breath in practice. "Is that all you've got? Whatever happened to the genius on the pitch?" you taunt, wearing the smug expression he oh-so-despises.

Your shit-eating grin only widens at the sight of his furrowed brows and clenched teeth that betray his frustration, he’s so predictable, it’s almost sad!

Which is why he would describe it as complete and utter humiliation, when he realises he's starting to feel something beyond mere dislike towards you.

The discomfort between the two of you only worsens as he grows awkwardly silent at your blatant insults or even the mere mention of his name within earshot. Seriously, is he just ignoring you? And if/when you condescendingly pat his head, calling him a sorry excuse of a striker, he just… stands there — his face tinted a touch redder than usual.

Well, you conclude he could’ve just finished practice so he’s red because of exhaustion. Stupid Yoichi got ahead of himself in training and tired himself out. Yeah, that must be it (cue everyone visibly shaking their heads and sighing very loudly)!

Before your fingertips even make contact with his head, Isagi already knows it's you standing beside him. "Still not giving up, huh? Just how much do you enjoy losing anyway..." You pause.

He doesn't swat your hand away or offer a retort like he would have a few weeks prior to today. You’re confused, not having a clue as to what’s changed and your little one-sided dynamic has lasted for ages at this point. He’s trying to embarrass you by acting as if you’re not there, isn’t he?!

But then, much to your absolute shock and horror, he absentmindedly responds with, “Right. Yeah.”

With your hand still resting on his hair, you don’t even notice how he leans into your touch while you’re still processing what just happened in your mind. How sneaky!

Now, this one’s unfathomably easy. SHIDOU is someone who thrives on stirring up trouble with anything unlucky enough to catch his attention; be it a stranger bumping into him or even a dog walking off its leash.

Though, to capture his interest and earn his respect in earnest, you need to demonstrate the ability to ‘explode’ on the field but also able to play by his ‘rules’. but to truly kick off his fascination with you (pun intended), maintaining a nonchalant demeanor/keeping a distance between you two also helps. He seems like he’d be drawn to people who are on the more mysterious side of his interactions with Sae are anything to go off of.

Approaching with his trademark flamboyance, Shidou’s voice boomed as he made his way across the pitch. "Hey, you! That was some seriously impressive play out there!" he declares, "I mean, seriously, those moves were—”

He goes off on a tangent about cells, explosions — stuff you couldn’t be bothered to listen to.

“…Thanks,” you say with a neutral expression on your face before he tries to jump on you??? Almost breaking your nose in the process, if you hadn’t dodged in time.

His personality is both captivating yet a little too boisterous for anybody’s taste, and you can’t help instinctively retreating if he gets too close. Even if he is one of the few players who willingly praises you outright.

But Shidou isn't deterred by your nonchalance; if anything, it only fuels his excitement. Someone that so brilliantly fits his character, (seemingly) couldn’t care less about him. Anyways in terms of romance, he operates on a vastly different wavelength from conventional views on love. I don’t think he’s the type to recognise feelings of being flustered or the desire to shower someone with tender care and attention.

Since it is still love at the end of the day, he’s still experiences a certain pull towards you, driven by instinct rather than conscious understanding. But besides that, he remains largely oblivious/doesn’t feel the need to dig deeper into the complexity of human emotions.

Just understands being around you = more fun for him.

And unless you’re exceptionally perceptive or are somehow able to understand his underlying motives, you're likely to interpret his actions as a signal to maintain a safe distance.

“You’re always so hard to pin down, you know that?” Shidou calls out, watching as you continue walking — unfazed by his presence. He debates on whether or not to smash your face into the ground but then, he pauses.

A rare moment of contemplation for him.

Despite everything, there’s something undeniably exhilarating about being around you. A sense of freedom, a release from the constraints of his existence. Being with you makes him happy. It’s a thought that prompts another; how nice it’d be if you felt the same way about him… huh. Oh well.

For KAISER, it's also decently easy. Either defeat him on the soccer field or simply refuse to conform to his philosophy of everyone revolving around him; just don’t be a pushover. He’s someone who’ll gladly take any opportunity to crush someone whose ego far outweighs their abilities, but when confronted by someone with the skills to match their confidence? He becomes both intrigued and slightly irked.

Especially if they’re someone who can’t stand him (which to be fair, isn’t all that difficult) or simply wants nothing to do with him.

As you catch sight of a familiar head of blonde hair fading into blue entering through the doorway, you internally groan.

It’s Kaiser who saunters over, flashing his signature smirk. "Well, if it isn't my most favourite jester," he drawls, his tone dripping with arrogance. "You're looking rather defeated today. Are you finally coming to term with the fact that you'll never match my level?"

If it wasn’t clear, you don’t have much enthusiasm when it comes to whatever he says.

As time passes however, he’ll slowly find himself being more…involved in your life — forcing to make an appearance himself if need be.

Even noticing the small details about you. the way your eyes lit up when you seemed to figure something out, the subtle quirks that made you, you. Eventually (and I mean eventually, this will take a while), the realisation that his actions were out of love dawns on him. He’ll certainly try to deny it, brushing off the unfamiliar feelings as mere annoyance or frustration, but as he catches himself stealing glances in your direction and seeking out opportunities to be near you, he can’t help but admit defeat.

Michael Kaiser, the arrogant and self-assured soccer prodigy, had fallen deeply and irrevocably in love with some nobody.

He wants to impress you, to be the one that makes you grit your teeth out of frustration, to be the best version of himself for you to look up at. And, what began as subtle glances and fleeting touches soon evolves into more obvious displays of affection.

He finds excuses to brush against you or in close proximity of you, his hand lingering a fraction longer when shaking yours or his fingers grazing yours when passing objects. He also seems to be fond of leaning close towards you nowadays, his face mere inches from yours. It’s a lot worse if you’re visibly flustered when he does these things too.

Additionally, your pet name has been upgraded from jester to ‘liebling’…whatever that even means. must be weird if it makes his teammates raise a brow every time he says it.

With the match coming to an end, you mentally prepare yourself for a certain someone’s inevitable reaction to that last play of yours. What you don’t expect is for him to suddenly take out your earbud with a creepy smile on his face. Kaiser’s always weird, but this is a little outlandish even for him.

“Ich liebe dich.”

You raise a brow at whatever he said (not that you could understand of course) but judging by the others looking completely lost for words, you can only assume it’s pretty awful.

i need to know what blue lock boys think about “male-female friendships” a.k.a do they think they can exist without one of two thinking “what if” situations (it can, i repeat, it can🗣️)

👏 give it up to anon for making me visualize the most stress-inducing scenario of the year. the first thing that comes to mind is that this would not sit well with a majority of the bllk boys.

however, the situation is particularly a no-go for the following:

the itoshi brothers would not approve. if you just look at their interactions, you can already tell. sae literally kicks rin for even thinking about replacing him when he goes to spain. they already have trust issues due to their dysfunctional sibling relationship, and to my knowledge, they don't have any female friends of their own. hence, i don't think they would understand that a male-female friendship is just a friendship and nothing more. regardless, this could go one of three ways. (1) they would probably give you the silent treatment and be secretly upset. would not spill anything unless you pry it out from them. (2) they would give your friend an absolute death glare. hyper-vigilant when it comes to any form of physical contact between you two. seething jealousy and possessiveness. and (3) for sae specifically, he would be petty about it. probably decides to leave you on read for the rest of the day. may or may not ghost you. and when you ask him to hang out, he's like....😒 don't you already have a friend?

reo also would not take this well. i mean....he had a whole mirror monologue and mental breakdown when nagi left him. i think he is highly insecure about people abandoning him since he doesn't really have anyone he is close to. would probably welcome your friend and hide his discomfort, but after a while, it becomes difficult for him to act like he's okay with your friendship. you would have to heavily reassure him that there was nothing beyond platonic going on between you two.

barou acts like he's alright with this situation, but your friend better have zero flaws because he's not going to tolerate anyone substandard. still, i feel like he would get jealous even if he doesn't show it directly. would probably make a fool out of your friend on purpose.

kaiser wouldn't think anything of it at first. after all, you're dating the great michael kaiser, why the hell would you need anyone else? but then, it starts getting to him. why is your attention on your friend and not him? is he not good enough for you? given his self-esteem issues, i don't think he would take this well. he would probably blame your friend first and then you. would be a dramatic baby about it, but it's secretly eating away at him from the inside out.

ness probably plots the entire murder of your friend and hides a body bag and shovel in his trunk. acts all sweet and sugary when you're present, but the moment you're not there, he's grabbing your friend by the collar and shaking the living daylights out of them. probably whispers "get the hell away from y/n" in the most menacing tone. your friend better leave because delusional ness does not come to play. his obsession is no joke.

shidou terrorizes your friend to the point they don't want to be friends with you anymore. this man just exudes a traumatizing aura. your scary dog privileges are revoked because he is now going rabid. i don't think he's going to have a problem with a male-female friendship, but you just might (as in you're not going to have much of a friendship anymore by the time he's done dismantling your friend's corpse.)

the only characters i can imagine this playing out healthily with is isagi, kurona, yukimiya, and maybe nagi.

isagi is usually highly understanding, and he has many friendships of his own. i think he would also encourage it if your friend happened to be one of his teammates or someone interested in football. but this does come with a caveat. if he senses something wrong with your friend, it's immediately game over. he's usually pretty open-minded except with the people he holds extreme dislike for. for example, isagi is willing to at least try to understand rin, but he clearly doesn't have that same willingness when it comes to kaiser. so...just don't befriend a jerk, and you're good.

kurona wouldn't mind because he's kurona. he trusts you, and he usually rationalizes his insecurities enough to keep them at bay. the only time he would have a problem is if you start neglecting him in favor of your friend. since he's pretty introverted, he probably wouldn't confront you about it, but he might feel a little bit slighted. just check up on him from time to time.

yukimiya is usually easy-going. i don't think a male-female relationship is going to be a huge problem for him, but they better treat you right. you mean the most to him, so he's going to support you through thick and thin. to be fair though, you probably won't even want to spend time with your friend because of how magnetically charming yukimiya is.

nagi doesn't mind because he just doesn't care. he's too lazy to deal with any resulting drama, and the only sense of personal attachment he has is with his bed.

Thoughts about Kaiser and Shidou + potential parallelisms [edited]

Idk this may make sense to me only bUT! I need Shidou's backstory so I can complete the puzzle of all the silly parallelisms between him and Kaiser.

I really feel like Shidou was. Made to feel meaningless, which is why he has the urge to leave a sign of his existence in this world with his "genes". He cannot separate the field from his life, as if football is *all* his life as ever revolved about, or as if he's been using it to survive the world.

And we've seen that Kaiser actually does something similar. He clings to football with claws and fangs because the idea of going back to what it was before nauseates him. Yet he cannot escape his trauma. Kaiser is such a beautifully complex and realistic character. He's been on survival mode for years and hasn't stopped yet.

(And maybe Kaiser will start to finally escape this vicious circle in the next chapters? Just like Shidou has now toned down his impulsivity and can actually play with people without getting red-carded the second someone gets in his way. For example: past sd would've prolly axe-kicked kuni right in the face if he got marked like that.)

I also like how violent both Shidou and Kaiser were once introduced to actual, semi-professional football. Kaiser reacting badly to kidness vs Shidou casually resorting to violence towards anyone who either slightly reacts to him negatively or straight up bores him.

and asdhhshdf Idk if it makes sense but I think they're equally similar and opposites. It's like they're sorta different faces of the same coin.

Another thing they're different on is that Kaiser tends to take things on a personal level vs shidou moving on the second after smt happens.

And. Ugh. They're. So interesing together. I need them to interact more, although they would absolutely despise each other because of how different their philosophy of life is. Like shidou would prolly find kaiser "childish" for not moving on from his trauma vs kaiser would think of shidou as dumb and inferior for his different approach to proving his own existence.

Also this may be the kise brain braining but if Sae managed to train Shidou then no one can stop him from training kaiser as well LMFAOOO that trip to spain will indeed be fun !

EDIT: ALSO!!! the fact they both have this weird ass concept of the "Impossible". Like Kaiser being like "I will overcome the impossible" vs shidou's "Impossible? that's not in my vocabulary".

Given that Blue Lock is an in-universe reality show with (apparently) millions of worldwide fans, that implies the theoretical existence of a Blue Lock fandom and, by extension, Blue Lock fanfic.

What kind of mischaracterisations do you think in-universe fans have of the various members of Blue Lock? Which ships would be popular? This is an rpf situation so what sort of drama goes on surrounding the very existence of bllk fanfic? Does the fandom have pockets which behave like other rpf fandoms such as Kpop and streamers? How much does Reddit fucking hate the stans? I NEED ANSWERS!!!!!

Firstly, the fandoms tagged in fics would be a mix of: Football RPF — all media types, Blue Lock (Football RPF), Neo Egoist League (Football RPF) and BLTV (Football RPF).

Common fandom-specific tags include: ‘Referenced Professional Footballers’, ‘No Beta We Die Like Kunigami Rensuke’s Ratings’, ‘Not Safe For Ego Jinpachi’s eyes’ and ‘Author Uses Football Not Soccer’.

Platonic relationships are pretty common in the fandom, with the most popular ones being ‘Michael Kaiser & Alexis Ness’, ‘Meguru Bachira & Lavinho’, ‘Yoichi Isagi & Noel Noa’ and ‘Yoichi Isagi & Rensuke Kunigami’.

Personally I think the most popular ships (as of right now) would be Kaisagi, Kainess, Reonagi and Ryurin. Bachisagi would be practically nonexistent because fans wouldn’t have seen them interact much. Only old fans know they were basically unstoppable together during the U-20 match. Most fans joined during the NEL, after the show started streaming.

Noel Noa gets shipped with Lavinho but only because he’s always the dad in fics who needs emotional support. In these fics, Isagi and Bachira are always the gremlin step brothers who scheme their not-dads into getting together.

There’s a ship war going on between the kaisagi and the kainess shippers. There’s also a third party which is against real-person shipping but is fine with rpf in general so Bastard Munchen for them is a hodge-podge, falling apart at the seams found family trope. The same goes for all the other teams but the Bastard Family TM is the most popular one.

 THERE ARE SO MANY FOUND FAMILY AUs. Popular tags include: “Noel Noa Is A Tired Dad”, “Isagi And Kunigami Are Brothers”, “Kaiser Is The Rich Cousin” and “They’re A Family Of Bastards Your Honour”.

There’s definitely fandom drama around the ethics of reading and writing fanfic. General consensus seems to end up being that non-ship fics are technically fine. Shippers still do their thing though because they’re impossible to get rid of.

The fandom ‘cinnamon rolls’ are definitely Bachira and Ness. Ness especially get mischaracterised as an ‘innocent, fragile flower’ that Kaiser has to protect. Bachira is most;y just characterised as Lavinho’s protege who is a happy lil sunshine with no flaws. Nagi also nearly falls into the ‘cinnamon roll’ category because he’s quiet and gives off ‘uwu’ energy (according to his stans) but slightly less so.

Rin gets the most x readers written about him. He beats everyone else except maybe Kunigami, who is a close second. They’re always characterised as the ‘bad boys’ and are the kings of Wattpad.

Sae gets inserted into Rin fics all the time purely because they’re brothers. Because he doesn’t appear in the NEL, his fandom interpretation is COMPLETELY off. Fans have basically turned him into a completely new, fictional character, he’s that different. He’s always dating Shidou though — Ryusae is a rare ‘it’s probably okay to ship this’ ship because literally everyone is convinced they’re actually dating irl.

Noa is shipped with Lavinho and people choose to either ignore it and enjoy the fluff or are active shippers — 56k words, 19/22 chapters, hurt/comfort, implied/referenced child abuse, Noel Noa Is A Tired Dad.

Several one-shots involving the ‘brothers/cousins’ Isagi, Kunigami, Kaiser and Ness all doing random shit together. Usually the fics are either from Isagi or Kaiser’s perspective and you can tell which authors prefer the Blue Lockers and which ones prefer the German players — usually 3-6k words each.

A long-distance relationship Kaisagi AU named after a Glass Animals song that gets so popular it crashes AO3 twice- (sry I’ll stop, that would be rancid).

A Manshine City found family AU where Reo and Nagi are characterised as brothers to the nth degree, Chigiri is the golden child and Chris Prince is the uncle who didn’t want to take them in but had to and slowly grows to love them as if they were his own kids. The grown-up mentors all have weekly brunch down at the local diner where they talk like gossiping aunts — 19k words, 5/? chapters, Manshine Triplets, Reo And Nagi Are Twins, Chigiri is also there tho!!! Give Chris Prince A Break.

The aforementioned AU where Bachira and Isagi trick their not-dads into getting together — 16k words, 4/10 chapters, Fluff And Angst, Slow Burn.

i’m excited to see more of ness, since it seems like he’s about to do something as well. i hope it’s decking kaiser, but i doubt that’s what it is. i’d settle for therapy.

it’s interesting to see how similar kaiser and isagi’s playstyles are, and how as the situation has changed throughout the NEL the way that they act during the games has swapped. it makes them very compelling in my opinion. because these two very different people approach the game in a very similar way, and they each get very similar results. they foil each other very well, albeit in a different way to isagi and rin. because rin and isagi approach football very differently, and i think they get very different things out of the sport. what makes the two of them interesting is how their differences play off of each other, rather than their similarities.

i don’t really have much to say about charles, at this point i don’t really like him. i think the interactions between him and shidou are funny, but there aren’t any of those in this chapter. but maybe as we progress i’ll like him more, i remember feeling similarly about kaiser when he first appeared.

i kinda hope kiyora backs kaiser, because i’m honestly a little bit tired of isagi winning all the time. it’s frustrating because it doesn’t feel very earned, but at the same time i don’t want to actively root against my boy. blue lock’s going to get real boring real quick if isagi never loses though. but i’m also thinking about the consequences of him losing at this point in time. like, if it’s a personal loss then his value plummets like he mentioned kaiser’s would. which has real consequences for his potential career and where he’d be playing. if the team loses then a similar deal to what happens if it’s a personal loss, except if isagi plays just an exceptionally standout game. which feels much more compelling to me. he’d have to deal with the fact that he played so incredibly well, his absolute best game yet. and it still wasn’t good enough. his best is not enough. maybe it would actually get him to try and work on teamwork with the team. because so far they’ve mostly been focusing on spontaneity, and doing what’s most logical in the moment. but the don’t know each other that well, and it can be hard to trust someone when you don’t.

- before I've seen Kaiser's backstory, I have a guess back then that he came from a difficult and poor family then the circumstances surrounding him forced him to grow up soon as a kid and become independent and opportunistic especially in the field of soccer where he was making a name for himself.

But I didn't expect it to be this dark 💔 now that I thought about it, maybe the reason why Kaiser is not fond of Lorenzo when we saw them interact back in the Ubers match was because he saw himself in him during his dark past as a kid.

Also, it now puts a different perspective between the partnership/friendship of Kaiser and Ness. Because of their dark backgrounds, I couldn't really help but think that it's trauma bonding considering that their relationship is a form of cyclical abuse with each other and have unconsciously recreated the pattern of the misfortune and abuse that they experienced in their childhood 💔 it certainly didn't excuse their behaviors towards the Blue Lock players but it makes a reader understand why they're like that with them and towards each other

I came for the soccer but stayed because of these intriguing and interesting background stories of their characters. I can't imagine what would be Shidou and Sae's background story is like 💔

He talks off your ear a lot, but there's not much you can do to stop him. But sometimes you do admit that what he's saying is interesting and you actually listen. To some extent, you do care about the stuff he likes to talk about even if you don't show it as much.

Bachira likes to play jokes on you and prank you a lot. There were times when he went overboard, but he apologized profusely afterwards.

But yeah! The dynamic that got me into reading the manga to begin with was the Itoshi brothers', and I'm still very much curious about it. Estranged siblings are a huge fave trope of mine, especially when the conflict boils down to a failure to see reality from each other's point of view. I like to think the Itoshi brothers have some level of miscommunication going on, much much worse than Nagi and Reo's, but I do think the parallels are there for a reason. Every now and then I get meta worms about them and add thoughts to a dedicated gdoc file, but there's still so much that needs clarifying imo. The flashbacks gave me some answers, but I'm dying to see Sae's side of the story as well because Rin is as much as a reliable narrator as Reo is when it comes to Nagi. And I don't believe for a second that Sae is as emotionless about the entire deal as he comes across to Rin. But I also think he's a huge asshole for how he left things between them.

I wish the manga would give us an episode Nagi-style dive into his thought process for how his dream changed and why he lost faith in Rin. There seems to be some level of mutual idolization turned sour on both sides, and while we know why Rin went from adoration to "hatred" (putting that in quotes because it's more complicated than pure loathing), we're left guessing about what made Sae want to cut Rin out of his life completely just over a soccer disagreement. My running theory is that in the heat of the moment he felt some degree of lied to as well, like their dream mattered so little to Rin, he wasn't willing to face reality and grow from it. I won't go into detail on this bc I would write an essay but. Just. Their relationship is... Messy and complex and that's my favourite shade of drama. Can't wait for them to face each other again to shed some more light on all this, and also hoping for an eventual reconciliation.

As far as established dynamics go I'm not intense about anything else atm. I used to like Isagi and Rin's dynamic, but I'll be real with you anon, I liked Isagi more when he had yet to grow that big head and huge asshole streak. I'm still anticipating the bm vs pxg match tho, and tbh I'm way more interested in Rin as a rival/foil than I ever was in Kaiser. I can't wait for Kaiser to disappear from the plotline actually.

Other characters I'm interested in... Well, I wouldn't call him a fave of mine yet, but I am curious about Shidou. There's more to him than violence and innuendos, and I'm excited to see his progress in the next match. His dynamic with Rin also amuses me greatly. I'd like to see more of those two, but also more of Shidou in relation to people in general. Gosh, I'd like to see him be friends with Bachira tho it will likely never happen. I think they have a lot of common ground on the loneliness front, and I hc that Shidou was also an outcast who played soccer alone cause he had yet to meet someone who could match his passion and intensity.

But because I like loneliness-bonding, I'm also drawn to Rin and Bachira as friends (and as a romantic pair too, as you've probably seen me share bachirin stuff). The fact that Rin saw through Bachira's longing for a human connection soon after meeting the guy always struck me, and the fact that Bachira can see right through Rin's loneliness in turn is interesting, especially since Rin refuses to acknowledge that he is.

Other bondings I'd like to see are Hiori and Rin (traumabonding over family), Hiori and Nagi (bonding over games and self-isolation), Bachira and Nagi (bonding over being silly little airheads with no brain-to-mouth filter), Nagi and Nikko (weeb to weeb communication), Reo and Kunigami (bonding over their relationship with failure and their crazy self-expectations), Reo and Isagi (as metavision rivals and midfielder-like play makers) and probably something else that I'm forgetting

I love this!! I remember when the concept of "New Gen 11" was first introduced, I was a little confused on whether they'd be able to interact with each other because they're basically supposed to be the best players in the newest generation for those particular spots on field, right? There's no real inkling that they've played together before.

But then Lorenzo seems to know Kaiser well enough that they can read other. Assuming that the teams have remained the same for atleast the past two years, if not longer, that means Real Madrid and Bastard Munchen MUST have gone against each other enough that Kaiser and Sae are familiar.

(I was honestly expecting Kaiser to make a comment to Rin about his older brother during the PxG match, but seeing as he's having a mental breakdown and there's no inkling-- there's no real foundation for this.)

But technically speaking, Sae's striker dream was crushed somewhere in that four year bracket. Judging by the timeline, Sae returns to Japan roughly a year or under two years from present date. Briefly, assuming, because the start of the series has him returning for a second time for his passport.

BASICALLY. All of this to say. The timeline would match up perfectly. I'd try to get it to match up better but we don't actually know for sure how old Kaiser is. I want to say he's maybe the same age as Sae, maybe a year older? But literally EVERYTHING points to the fact that they've played against each other atleast a handful of times.

I can't remember the chapter, but at some point Ego makes that big speech about how a Japanese player is worshipped in the media as their next prodigal genius, and then they get crushed under European talents before returning to Japanese football to finish in some mid level national leagues. This is almost Exactly what Sae does, except Sae still has an ego, just that it manifests in a different way.

He's talented, and he knows it, so rather than opting to get crushed as a striker, he flourishes as a midfielder. This is why there exist parallels between Sae and Isagi.

But I am curious-- why do you think this strips us of a badass character? I'd like to pick your brain on that.

Besides, if Rin were to be the world's best striker, then he would also need the world's best midfielder too, you know.

This is so interesting because, the way Sae behaves once he gets back from Spain is literally the exact opposite of this. He tells Rin to stop playing football, to stop pursuing that dream-- and it really makes you wonder. Obviously Sae is not very open with his thoughts, and often contradictory in his speech and actions. (Hilarious example, but see how he talks to Shidou vs acts with Shidou in the U20 arc.)

If this is true, and Sae chose to stay as close to Rin through his dream, then that means Sae is as dependent on Rin as Rin is dependent on him. Honestly? i think that was exactly what Sae wanted to break when he got back from Spain. He's not quite succeeded yet, but I think in his mind he was doing it for the sake of Rin. Except I think he needs it too.

I just. I was really looking forward to Kaiser picking on Rin for being Sae's little brother in some shape or form, yknow?? If they had history, I feel like he'd be more crass about it. But of course at the moment he's not doing too well LMAO. But if it happens, then that will easily give us some more evidence to work off of.

It was the end of Ubers match when I first stumbled upon a tweet on Pinterest which sowed the theory of Kaiser destroying Sae's dream in my mind. And honestly, after this seeing panel:

I'm starting to believe more and more in that theory.

It was evident way before Ness's backstory that Kaiser is definitely NOT a newbie in the soccer industry which gives an ample amount of time for Sae to face Kaiser in a match considering Sae didn't return to Japan for straight four years.

And I highly think that Sae faced off Kaiser in the later moment of those four years.

And I do think that if you were to lose a long-term dream, then it'll show on your face much more during the earlier days rather than a year later when you get used to the feeling of losing your dream.

Further, Kaiser crushing Sae's dream fits well in two questions that revolves in my mind whenever I think about Sae's backstory:

Why Sae started hating his own country, Japan?

The above question can be modified as:

Why Sae started hating Japanese soccer players?

As I said in one of my previous posts, I do believe that when Sae stepped into Spain, he realised that he was the Frog in the well—he realised how vast the world is and that he wasn't as great of a player as he thought he was. He probably struggled a lot but was somewhat successful in maintaining a balance when Kaiser came in like a wrecking ball to strike the nail in the coffin.

Of course, considering Sae's personality, he would've surely put up a fight against Kaiser just like Isagi did, but unlike that blueberry boy, Sae was already very exhausted and sadly, after some time, he gave up.

Now to address the actual answer to the question: Sae hated how much Japan celebrated him when he was just a child. He was showered with the title of prodigy since he was a kid and he hated that his own country made him feel like he was someone special when in reality, he was just the best among the worst. Further, even if he wanted to be better, there was no one in Japan who could help him do that. He hated how he was made to believe by his country's people that he had what it took to be the world's best striker.

Kind of like a betrayal of some sort.

Moving onto next question:

Why Sae chose to be a Midfielder then?

I have two reasoning for this question:

Firstly, what is the position closest to the striker? Yes, a Midfielder. So, by being a Midfielder, Sae is still trying to be as close to his dream as possible. It is his type of compromise.

Secondly, do you remember what Rin really liked? Yes, Sae's passes. And which position's main role is to pass? Yes, a Midfielder.

It's like Sae is trying to get some kind of closure by reliving those good old times when Rin and Sae played in the Kamakura United (their soccer club). Besides, if Rin were to be the world's best striker, then he would also need the world's best midfielder too, you know.

The only reason I don't want this theory to come true is because it kind of strips us off from an opportunity to get a new badass character.

I also don't want this theory to be true is because I'm solely holding onto this panel:

I'm desperately holding into this panel as a hope that Sae still cares for Rin.

After we got an insight of Kaiser-Ness relation in chapter 261, I can't help but fear that Sae may think of Rin in the same way—someone for his own selfish needs.

And if anything like this happens, I'll transform into the biggest Kaiser's hater alive. Even after chapter 261, I still somewhat defend him for his behaviour, but Itoshi brothers have been the closest to my heart—istg I'll rip Kaiser's hair from his scalp if the brothers' bond gets tarnished because of him.

Kaisae "ficlet"/scenario, getting together; featuring: Kaiser's typical insanity, established background ryusae and implied ryusaekai ending.

Kaiser goes to Re Al and tries to get closer to Sae to learn his patterns so he can manipulate/tame him on the field. He fails.

It's not the first time Kaiser finds himself staying till late at Sae's apartment, but every single time he gets surprised at how fast the day goes when they are in each other's company. They drink tea or coffee together almost daily, sometimes chatting about the day's training, most of the time just basking into each other's presence without actually making the effort to socialise.

Kaiser has read somewhere in his psychology books that this behavior is called "parallel play", but he hasnt given much thought about it. Just that, sure, human interactions feel way less tiring when you don't have to mask all the time.

It wasn't supposed to be like this, though.

At first, this was supposed to be a way for Kaiser to learn about Sae's patterns, a way to enter in the midfielder's mind to get a better grasp of what was going in there, especially since Sae always seemed to know somehow which buttons to push to rile him up.

Unfortunately for Sae, Kaiser doubts the midfielder is aware of what his actions actually bring to the table.

An example? That one time Sae called him good boy after Kaiser received one of his passes, to which of course Kaiser had reacted in a totally normal, balanced, not insane way... by spending a whole week doing nothing but fantasising about committing the perfect Sae-cide.

(One morning he finally decided to look at himself in the mirror and tell his reflection that it did not mean anything and it was not that deep. He was very normal about being called good boy by Sae Itoshi, in fact he disliked it a normal amount.)

He hates it.

Anyway.

The initial plan, which consisted to convince Sae to train together, was quickly discarded after realising that Sae was a natural at both football and magically disappearing after training, which made Kaiser's attempts to reach out completely futile. When he finally managed to tell Sae about his idea, all the midfielder had to say was that "If you need more time after training then you have been doing it wrong".

That, of course, led to more homicidal thoughts.

So Kaiser needed to change his plan. Since Sae wanted to play hard to catch so bad, Kaiser decided that it was more than fair to play dirty.

Literally.

In the meaning that Kaiser casually slips his dirty jersey shirt in Sae's training bag while Sae is still in the shower, carefully hiding it so that it won't show up until Sae gets back at his apartment and put his stuff in the washing machine.

What happens next plays out exactly how Kaiser had imagined it: Sae texting him about his jersey, Kaiser insisting that there's no need for Dabadie to be the one to bring it back and that Kaiser himself would gladly retrieve it at Sae's apartment.

Except when Kaiser gets there, already tasting victory in his mouth, he finds out Sae is definitely not alone in his house.

Shidou Ryusei is sitting at the kitchen table, tea mug in one hand and phone in the other, mindlessly scrolling his feed as he relentlessly bounces a leg under the table.

Kaiser is already hating this, but he does not even have the time to reply or find a quick excuse that he somehow finds himself sitting at that same table with a fuming mug in his hands. He secretly curses Sae for letting the Mediterranean typical hospitality to rub on him and curses himself for not having a plan B.

The next interactions are some of the weirdest Kaiser has ever witnessed.

First of all, Kaiser has always been sure he was good at following certain scripts and at reading certain patterns. But this. Whatever was going on between Sae and his ugly... boyfriend...? was beyond his comprehension of human behaviour.

Why the fuck are these humans not humaning. What is this. What the fuck.

He hates it. But hates not being able to read them even more, so he stubbornly sits there, studying them from afar. One thing he understands: neither Shidou or Sae are kind people. He sees it in their voice tones and demeanor, and, now that he thinks about it, even when Sae invited him in he was using a colder tone, one that you don't use if you want to appear welcoming.

When Kaiser retrieves his jersey back and finally gets home, he stares into the wall for forty-five minutes. What the fuck.

He definitely hates it.

Next week, he is back at Sae's apartment to get his socks back. They are alone this time, but the encounter plays out in a similar way. Sae barely welcomes him home, makes him tea, then proceeds to ignore him.

Rinse and repeat for the following week as well. And the next one too. Kaiser has stopped hiding his stuff in Sae's bag, Sae has started to be more chatty, although only when it came to soccer.

Sometimes they go out together. Sae likes to go for long walks at the beach in the late afternoon and Kaiser finds himself sticking around at Sae's place long enough to eventually join him.

"I need to study him so I can tame him on the field", Kaiser keep telling himself. Yet there he is, lounging on Sae's L-shaped couch, with Shidou's weightened blanket enveloping him and Sae watching tv sitting right next to him.

Kaiser has no idea when his brain has started to consider Sae as part of his comfort zone, at the point of letting the midfielder's stay this close to him.

Kaiser is still lost in his thoughts when he feels a gentle weight on his shoulder. He looks down and sees Sae fully relaxed against him. His eyes are closed, and his long lashes lie prettily on his cheeks.

In normal circumstances, Kaiser would physically recoil at someone touching him. Only Ness had ever gotten this close beforehand, but that was different and whatever was going on between him and Sae did not taste the same. There was no power dynamic to keep Kaiser safe from this.

To help him distance from... whatever.

This was not the time for self-reflection.

Kaiser wrapped an arm around Sae's shoulder and decided that, maybe, he did not hate it that much anymore.
