It’s set in modern time. So it tells the story of like WY was in a abusive relationship with someone who’s older than him and he got out of it.

The story begins like how he was jn the hospital because of it. Lan xichen was his doctor. And i remember that he was admitted because he was hit with a wine bottle i think.

In the story WY was like not allowed to go outside of his abusive boyfriend apartment and there’s a little bit grooming.

And this boyfriend was JYL friend, he’s an original character i think.

And the story continues with the recovery and there’s this scene where Su She grab his hand at a supermarket? and it reminded him of his ex and i think he panicked.

So I’m looking for a fic that I can’t find where I can’t remember what exactly happened, but it goes something like this;

Lwj and Wwx are sleeping, Lwj gets a nightmare, and he doesn’t tell Wwx about it, but he figures it out anyway and then Wwx waits to see whether Lwj will go back to sleep or have sex. They have rough sex in which Wwx specifically requests that he doesn’t want to come. And then they talk (I think it was just outside on a porch or something?) And then Lwj fingers him and gets him off.

42. This fic is a modern au, I think that both LZ and WY are cultivators, WY specifically is kind of a witch (?), he messes with dark magic and lives in a haunted town or something like this. There’s a reencounter between the two (I don’t know if by chance or if LZ tracks WY) and at some point LZ gets worried that WY is sorrounded by ghosts/resentful energy, but he is aware of the situation. I think WY even has a pet crow/cat, but I’m not sure. And the plot may envolve him being isolated, running away or being expelled because of his methods of cultivation. 50. For FF, I can’t recall if it was time travel or not, but the scene I recall: CR arc, WWX refusing to copy his punishment texts in the library. Nobility is given the power of life and death over the serf class with little to no oversight, since they rely on oaths and vows to do the dirty work for them. Obviously, it fails miserably more often than not, because only morally good people are concerned with keeping their word, and they're not overly likely to engage in aggressive violence to begin with. The morally repugnant don't give a damn about vows anyway. There's nothing wrong with vows and oaths. Keeping your word is extremely important to human relationships. How many liars do you enjoy being friends with? Would you call someone who fucked your significant other behind your back to come bail you out of prison? The problem is Westerosi just tend to ignore human nature and their social organization is broken as a result of that. Those in power who are aware of the facade take advantage of it to increase their own power and prestige at the cost of others (Tywin, Roose), and those who have internalized the myth are at an incredibly steep disadvantage (Ned, Robb) to those who haven't. Ned dies as a direct result of his investment in Westerosi romanticism when he confronts Cersei and tells her what he's going to do, expecting the idealized Westerosi norms to protect him. Obviously this fails catastrophically, as Cersei tears up Robert's letter without giving a shit, and Ned ends up dying for it. In many ways the romantic foolishness inherent to Westeros is what GRRM set out to write about in the beginning. George undoubtedly saw all of these overly romantic epic fantasies of the '70s and '80s, which were all aping Tolkien and based on a painted-turd version of feudalism and, being an enthusiast for medieval history, George knew that this was a steaming load of bullshit, and set out to write an epic fantasy which more accurately depicted feudalist society. Anyone who has any knowledge of feudalism whatsoever would undoubtedly agree.

Are there programs (like Pioneer’s letters) to keep the engines from getting into boredom-induced mischief? Or are they expected to entertain themselves?

Not in an official capacity. Generally both of the museums' exhibits keep themselves out of trouble well-enough that it's not necessary. Most of these guys had a full service life and are just happy to be enjoying a retirement that affords them the luxury of relaxing over a game of cards, talking about their day, and maybe getting ice cream if time allows. (RIP Finnegan's, you will be sorely missed.)

At the IRM there's nearly always a new arrival to introduce yourself to and learn about, or if you get REALLY bored you can see if someone wants to organize a pickup game of frisbee golf or some other non-contact game that 2903 will have to mediate and break up because no one actually knows the rules and someone's probably going to start an argument about it. That's about the extent of the mischief anyone gets up to around here. Even then, most of the time engines at both museums are happy to play nice. Even Stuka and Spitfire keep their roughhousing down to a dull roar and make sure not to involve anyone in the crossfire who hasn't been explicitly invited to participate. (Spitfire keeps asking Pilot and he keeps turning him gently down.)

Pilot and Pioneer's impromptu letter exchange program was more the result of a bored guide than a bored engine. Pioneer is quite content in his little yard at the MSI in 1962, but he's so bright and well-read, it seems a shame not to let him get a little more socialization. The news about a new acquisition of a Zephyr trainset by another Illinois museum that seemed to be making something of a name for itself all the way out there in farm country sparked the interest of an enterprising individual at the MSI who made the connection. The penpal idea was floated to Pioneer under the pretense that he'd be welcoming a fellow Burlington engine into a new kind of service life, and that it would be nice for him to reach out and answer any questions this newbie might have about preservation, something that - up to this point - was highly unusual for recently-retired diesel engines. Pioneer agreed to it under those conditions, but it was always something they intended to benefit Pioneer as well. And it did! That Pioneer is inherently charmed by the romanticism of the post is what kept it from being a one-off, and is the reason he alone is a good candidate for having a penpal. As mentioned, other engines don't find this kind of thing nearly as entertaining as he seems to, but they like when Pioneer gets a letter and the guides read it out loud in the yard. Then they get to heckle him while he dictates a response while he laughs along with them about it, as is his nature. In that way, it's actually enrichment for the whole yard!

so i have some random questions, maybe you could answer, and am curious if any have had any academic papers written up about them, or if you just.. know where to find the information? Bit of a meta question: How much information do we actually have of the gang on their days in Geneva around the time of digging into their ghost stories? Is it just ex. what you've posted before of their journals of the time, or do we have other later recollections akin to Mary's own in her intro of Frankenstein? Just how much remains, and how much can we pull from various sources etc? (research is fun, go off on this on, i love to read it.) The evening before mary's waking dream, do we have any further recollection by the others on their discussions on the principle of life, other than her account? Or even in general by the squad thru their lives, does anyone dig into the technological advancements and scientific theories of their time, or even those of the Enlightenment thinkers? (Newton, Hooke, Boyle, et al.) I assume since it's the Romantics with their general dislike of the prior period it's a no, and also because I'm asking about bloody poets, not academics, but..? Likewise, anything written by the gang on her waking dream and the effects after? (could've sworn I read something about Mary appearing gastly pale?) (I'd love to hear your thoughts and rants and rambles on the following, :D): Or do we have anything written by others outside the gang in reference to her dream after she gave her Intro? Lake Geneva was an insulated aristocratic vacation town and gossip abounded.

Books on Frankenstein or the tech & science of the time in relation to Mary & other Romantics: way too many to mention! Frankenstein is one of the most written about works of all time, and tech discourse is inherent to Romanticism — there are tons of books & articles written about all topics. Percy studied science with James Lind and was inspired by Erasmus Darwin who Mary refers to in a Frankenstein preface. 

On if others at Diodati recollected specifically about Frankenstein or Mary being pale: Percy wrote a review of Frankenstein as well as the novel's introduction section (he wrote it from Mary's POV), and he mentioned the novel in his letters; Claire discusses it several times in her letters with praise, Byron mentions it once or twice with brief compliments; Polidori mentions it in the preface to Ernestus Berchtold in compliment but with possible jealousy beneath. Your "pale" reference likely refers to how she and Byron said she looked when learning of the news of Percy's missing boat; I made a post about that (https://www.tumblr.com/burningvelvet/710178692214784000/from-conversations-of-lord-byron-with-the-countess?source=share). 

My Interpretation of Mary's "waking dream": This was largely metaphorical. Mary probably did have an inspirational dream (scientists have found evidence: https://m.csmonitor.com/Science/2011/0928/Frankenstein-moon-Astronomers-vindicate-Mary-Shelley-s-account) but at the same time I do think she sensationalized the trip a bit. From the novel The Poet and the Vampyre: "these [visits to Diodati were] not always convivial - Mary describing the 13 August visit in a single word: 'War.'" Mary, like everyone else, mythologized the summer of 1816. The preface to the 1831 edition of Frankenstein (different from the 1818 original) sensationalizes the origins with a gothic flare because that’s what she knew her fans wanted; she was a widowed single mother in her 30s determined to make a living off her writing, and she enjoyed the immense popularity of Frankenstein, helping to proliferate it through the wildly successful stage adaptation which was spookier and showier than the philosophical novel.

Mary “said the three or four months she passed there were the happiest of her life,” (source: Thomas Moore’s journal, vol. 5, p. 178, via Internet Archive). Before, and especially after this summer of 1816, Mary experienced many traumas which left her with severe depression, and so she romanticized that time, ignoring all of the many ongoing problems surrounding it.

1816 was extraordinary fun for all of them, but it was not paradise. The summer was littered with actual storms as well as emotional storms. In the 1831 preface Mary makes no mention of Claire’s existence, though Claire was the only reason they were even there, since Claire wanted to visit Byron who she was having a horribly drawn out affair with. The two dramatically broke up that summer, made worse by Claire then revealing she was pregnant with his child. There was also a lot of drama with Polidori (writer, and Byron’s doctor) who fought with Byron and Percy, threatening Percy to duel him over a sailing race.

Mary was also in denial about Percy’s many problems. Shelley was mentally and physically ill, perpetually on the run from debtors who had imprisoned him, disowned by his family for being kicked out of Oxford due to atheism, publicly notorious, had a wife and children back in England, and more than likely had an ongoing affair with Claire, causing Byron to briefly wonder at their child’s paternity. Still, Mary was madly in love with Percy from the time she met him until her last moments on Earth when she died staring at his preserved heart which she requested to be buried with. She shared his struggles and spent much of her life defending him, and she's the reason he achieved posthumous fame thanks to her relentlessly promoting, annotating, editing, transcribing, publishing, and republishing his works.

She occasionally does hint at the drama of that time, and how hurt she felt at times, but generally Mary ignored these things, as well as their many other flaws, so that she could remain on good terms with all of them (especially Claire and Byron after their break-up). Despite the drama, she had felt the good times at Lake Geneva were the best times of her life thus far. She was in the most beautiful place in the world, she loved traveling, she felt inspired to write, her baby was healthy and had a good nanny, her own health improved, she spent fun times with her lover who was happily preoccupied with sailing, Claire (who she loved but also found annoying) was preoccupied with Byron, and she found Byron fascinating.

Not even a year after the trip, she was already painfully reminiscing about her good memories: 

“that time is past, and this will also pass, when I may weep to read these words, and again moralise on the flight of time. Dear Lake! I shall ever love thee,”

“We may see [Byron] again, and again enjoy his society; but the time will also arrive when that which is now an anticipation will be only in the memory. Death will at length come, and in the last moment all will be a dream.”

“why is not life a continued moment where hours and days are not counted — but as it is a succession of events happen — the moment of enjoyment lives only in memory and when we die, where are we?”

Frankenstein was started in the summer of 1816 and first published in 1818. Then there was an 1831 edition, the most commonly read today, which is slightly different (slightly less radical for Victorian audiences) and which includes the preface which refers to the “waking dream.” Scholars have noted that Mary’s recollection is partly based on her mythologizing and romanticizing her youth. This is even more obvious considering all of the traumas she had experienced afterward. In her journals (via Project Gutenberg) she often refers to her youth as being like a dream before Percy's death. She was seeing her life through rose-tinted glasses to cope, and possibly experiencing depression-related derealization. 

Condensed timeline of Mary’s traumas to show what I mean about the Frankenstein period being a relatively happier time for her: Her mother died giving birth to her. June 1814: her and her step-sister Claire run away with Shelley. Problems with her father for years after (though they eventually rekindle). Feb 1815: 1st child dies, becomes pregnant a few months later. Jan 1816: has 2nd child who is healthy. Summer 1816: Geneva summer, begins writing Frankenstein; Claire in love with and pregnant by Byron before their relationship dissolves. Oct 1816: Mary’s half-sister Fanny kills herself. Dec 1816: Shelley’s wife kills herself; Mary marries Percy to protect their kids & so he can gain custody of his first 2 kids. Mar 1817: they stay in Marlowe; Mary described this as maybe their happiest residence, and this is where she wrote much of Frankenstein. 1817 misc.: court denies them custody of Shelley's first two kids due to his unorthodoxy; Percy self-exiles from England, they move to Italy, move around continuously, & suffer illness. Sept 1817: 3rd baby is born & dies. Jan 1818: Frankenstein published. June 1819: 2nd child dies while Mary is pregnant with 4th child. Nov 1819: has 4th & only surviving baby (Percy Florence, who lives a long life). 1821: Polidori dies from suspected suicide. April 1822: Claire & Byron’s baby Allegra dies. June 1822: news of Allegra’s death. Mary almost dies from a miscarriage, Percy saves her life. July 1822: Percy dies in a boat accident. Their social circle splits up. Claire moves to Russia. After comforting her, Mary’s closest friend Jane (whose husband died with Percy; the two couples lived together) breaks up their friendship & moves abroad. Mary suffers multiple social conflicts which are largely not her fault, & becomes socially isolated. 1823: Byron & their mutual friend Trelawny join the Greek War. 1824: Byron dies. Mary writes her apocalyptic novel The Last Man as a tribute to her broken social circle & it’s members.

From her journal, Oct 2, 1822: “Father, mother, friend, husband, children—all made, as it were, the team which conducted me here, and now all, except you, my poor boy (and you are necessary to the continuance of my life), all are gone, and I am left to fulfill my task.”

Several times, she wrote that the only reason she didn’t kill herself was because of her son Percy. However, note: Her life did improve after The Last Man. It's a bit of an outdated view that she was just a stereotypical depressed widow forever after. She was a strong and determined woman, and she eventually had a full social circle, friends, married son, daughter-in-law, flirtations, a successful writing career, hobbies, and so on. She found meaning through motherhood, writing, and paying tribute to Percy. However, for all these reasons, she saw the period of Frankenstein and prior to be some of the happiest times of her life and a "calm before the storm" (literally, the storm that killed Percy), which explains all the above.

this doesn't make me uncomfortable at all! in fact, i'm happy to elaborate. i would, however, like to start this by saying i meant the case majority of nrmt shippers, not every single one, so if this doesn't apply to you - honestly, great news for your future and present relationships with people.

anyways. when i started reading narumitsu fanfiction, i noticed a pattern. people tend to make the characters pass the "i will find you and help you" role like a hot potato between the characters depending on the time of the events in the fanfic - if it's feenie or aa1 era, phoenix is the one who writes endless letters and seeks miles out, if it's aa3-aa4, edgeworth is the one who flies across the ocean to see wright or helps him financially and emotionally during the disbarment. each time, that borderline obsessive behavior gets romanticized and turns into the basic formula of "i'm in pain, closed off and not who i really am - let me help you despite your constant refusals - okay i'm better now. i love you also". i don't mean to say it's inherently bad to write stuff like that or that it makes the relationship toxic, i'm simply hyperbolizing and making an overall point.

another thing about those fics is that the hurt/comfort is usually centered on the one who needs the comfort. if phoenix helps miles get over the turnabout goodbyes trial, holds him after an earthquake or saves him "again", it's usually a miles-centered fic, and the disbarment ones are a phoenix study. it can be the other way around, of course, but the ones described earlier made me have a realization.

as i've stated in my nrmt analysis post, what they would have had before turnabout succession is just... not that healthy in my eyes? not long term healthy, at least. so i feel like nrmt fans tend to have a warped sense of what love and relationships are, constantly defining phoenix and miles by what they do for each other and what they mean to each other, not by their individual growth. phoenix often gets too much credit for saving miles, miles gets assigned the role of the one who was always there during the 7yg and helped take down kristoph, etc. again, not bad!! just interesting.

In the days of the original Sangha, it was thought that only a monk of the Sangha could become an Arhant—someone who sees the True Nature of existence. If you were a woman, the best you could hope for is a fortunate rebirth, possibly as fortunate as to be reborn as a monk. Fortunately the teachings have evolved since then, and due to all of us intrinsically having Buddha Nature, gender, lay or ordained status, occupation, none of that matters. We just need to realize our True Buddha Nature to actualize our inherent buddhahood. Some may still contend that it’s a lot easier to pull that off in a monastic environment, without all the distractions of modern life in the “real world.” That may be a romanticized view of life in a Zen center or temple; modern life doesn’t stop at the front door, it might just wear robes.

Dahui Zonggao, Chan Master from the 11th Century CE, lived as a monastic, but his Dharma teaching wasn’t limited only to monks. The writings we have of his (as compiled in “Swampland Flowers”) are largely correspondence he had with lay practitioners. He understood what it took to realize one’s Buddha Nature, and he also understood that there were those who were no less dedicated to the Dharma, but circumstances dictated that “leaving home” was no more an option for them than it was for Layman Pang or Vimalakirti. Being a lay practitioner does not relegate us to second-class status or being unable to awaken in this very lifetime. 

Bodhidharma said that the “Great Way is beyond words and letters.” But to function in life, there are many words-everything from Sutras to recipes—that we need to use. While knowledge does not equate to wisdom, and you can’t intellectualize yourself into awakening, knowledge and intellect do not have to be a hindrance. 

As Dahui said, “At the very moment one speaks of knowledge, knowledge itself is mind, and this very mind itself is knowledge….People with great wisdom have all taken knowledge as their companion, considered knowledge an expedient means, practiced the compassion of equanimity in knowledge, and done all the business of buddhas in knowledge, like dragons reaching the water, like tigers taking to the mountains—they never considered this knowledge an affliction, because they thoroughly understood the origin of knowledge.” 

Knowledge is nothing more than a collection of facts. In and of themselves, these facts aren’t good or bad. When our knowledge gets us in trouble is when we use it to escape from this moment, right hereandnow, and let the concepts that knowledge can bring become a hindrance. Right now, you are reading this piece. When reading, just read. When watching the video, watch the video. There may be some combination of words, ideas, and facts contained in them that will be of benefit to you and help you realize your True Buddha Nature. And more importantly they may help you point the way so that all beings can realize their True Nature as well. There is no reason to “escape the real world” in order to facilitate our following the Great Way. It’s all the real world.

We read and romanticize all these journal entries/ letters between all these writers/people and journals/letters are inherently so fkn private and I wonder how these people would feel about having their innermost feelings and passions that they've only shared with their nearest displayed to the entire world like imagine their horror

#a solitude given as a gift.

a lone cupcake with a candle in the middle, the sudden need to sleep in instead of spending time at someone else's house. the way dread followed me all the way to the 7th of november and perhaps they all picked up on it. i didn't see it as anything too significant, really. my birthday is just another day and it's only made special due to carats celebrating it worldwide and knowing my mom went through immense pain on this day.

that's the only reason why it's special to me.

but a year ago, it was something i looked forward to. a year ago, there was a lot of people and confetti and letters upon letters. a year ago, i had something to be excited over.

however, this year... i have a cupcake with a candle and a couple of people surrounding me, singing happy birthday to me gently. my phone flashes with brief messages, long wishes, and friendly faces but who i seek, they are not there. the once bright smiles that warmed my entire life are not there.

there is a distant smile, words not coming from a heart reaching my ears, and awkward air between someone i wish to reconcile with. it aches, it really does, how things have soured. should i have attempted? will it just fail? empty-sounding words and niceties grace my palms and all i can do is stare at the man who gives this to me.

#the inherent romanticism in the friendship between you and i.

i can't bring myself to reach even further than i already have. i want to apologize. will you have me, then?

we've changed terribly so, we are not the same people we once were and never will return to these people. it is a death to be mourned over, a grief to be savored and never forgotten, but i don't linger on it for long. i yearn for just this one thing, this one friendship that lifted me up like nothing else. i yearn. i am a creature made of yearning.

i do not want anyone else the way i want you by my side. i do not look to anyone else to fill the void you have left in my heart. but i cope with it- i cope with it by smiling and becoming friends with people and texting polite thank yous and how have you beens and it's been so longs.

i do not let my sadness linger and suffocate us both; i do not let my sadness taint my birthday and this cupcake with its lone candle. i know you would not like it at all if you knew how sad i am over this. i wonder if, perhaps, you would feel strangely about me wanting to be close again.

i wonder, i think. i overthink until it becomes an illness i cannot cope with.

but i celebrate this day of my birth with a couple of close friends, i have them come over and hug me and wish me happy birthday, i have them smile at me and express their gratitude for me being there with their gazes alone, i allow them near me even when all i want is someone closer than that- one of the warm wisps from before.

#the tragic end of supernovas and the rebirth of stars.

wishes don't always come true, though; not even the ones you shove into a bottle and throw into the sea. not even the ones where you cry your eyes out and kneel into the sand like a devout believer, praying for the stars to take your words to the moon, for the moon to change the threads of fate. not even the ones where you whisper in the back of your mind and blow out the candle.

i did not have them, i did not have you, but i had others. for that, i am grateful. i could not find others to fill in their spaces but i did not want to, i did not wish to do so. let their ghosts linger by the door, let my back be unturned to these ghastly faces. i'm not alone, not like how i was afraid of feeling on this day.

my phone flashes incessantly, green hearts and frog emojis coming up, and arms wind themselves around my body. happiness from other people seep into my bones, threads itself into my soul, and it's difficult, really, to not feel the same happiness they give.
