ok but I've been thinking a lot about the Captain Carter episode a lot, especifically about what happens after Steve/ The hydra stomper falls from the train.

You know, when Peggy goes and absolutely and most definitely scares or/and beats the ever living shit out of Zola.

But I was also thinking about the fact that unlike in TFA she didn't have anyone to check on her? like, really no one.

Maybe because of time sake for the ep and stuff but its been really sticking on my grembling mind soooo, here comes a long as ramble ig ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I mean, it could be because steve had that moment with Peggy and they didn't have the "romantic interest" there so yeah lets just skip it. But in TFA they even mention at one point that they are not letting steve interrogate zola because they think he might really beat him up.

So I'm just thinking, how did anyone let Peggy get near Zola? Especially considering Flinn really sees her as an "over emotional woman" because of her reaction to steve being possibly dead.

My only explanations are that either everyone knew she was going to his cell and they just let her or they really just let her bcs honestly fuck that bitchass zola (all my homies hate that bitchass zola)

Or they just... left her alone? Not because they don't care, don't get me wrong. I'm not saying that. I just think that maybe they specifically didn't know how to proceed because it was Peggy?

idk if ths makes any sense tbh. But it keeps bothering me bcs the next scene is her surrounded by everyone and i don't know if that implies that she called them? or they were already there and she came with the info?

Also a part of my would have liked to see Peggy and Bucky interact, especially after what happens to Steve.

Something like

She was walking towards Zola's cell, her mind made up about getting all the information she could out of him through any way possible and on her way there she encounters Bucky.

They both have bloodshot eyes but their expressions give nothing away. It takes Bucky nothing but a couple seconds to figure out where Peggy is headed. She raises an eyebrow at him and he follows her without a word.

They get to the door, the guards are dissmised. "Want to do the honors?" she aks.

He takes a deep breath. "No, I'll stand guard... for now."

She nods at him and is about to open the door when he says deadly calm. "Oh and Peggy, don't hold back."

They look at each other one last time before she opens the door.

After watching the What If 2 Hydra Stomper episode, I have one thing to say - *sighs, gestures to everything*

Stucky should have been a love story. It's a crime that it wasn't. This ep literally proved what we've been saying - their relationship would be romantic if one of them was a girl.

Even here, Bucky is the one who stares into the gun and tries to talk Steve down while Peggy just jumps him.

It takes a couple words from Bucky to make Steve hesitate and Peggy has to literally monologue at him.

Steggy was cute in TFA but it was barely more than a casual relationship and I need Marvel to let it go. They already ruined Steve's character once because of it, what more do they want? (But then again, if they stop forcing Steve's straight romance down our throats, what is there to stop up from *gasp* imagining him in love with his male friend!)

I think Marvel wanted Steggy to be this love story for the ages that all the fans would root for but... after making three movies about how much his childhood best friend means to him, having Steve stare at a compass of a girl he's known for barely two years a couple times just pales in comparison.

Also, off topic but kind of related, it's honestly laughable that here you have this series all about exploring the possibilities and yet there's not even one queer character.

What do you know, turns out I had more than one thing to say.

CA: TWS parallels got me in my feels, too. Peggy/Nat is THE SHIP for me, but there's something about Peggy/Steve that hits just right the same way as Tony/Pepper, Steve/Tony, and Steve/Bucky.

The framing of these shots got me--Peggy in the background pissed because she wasn't told about the rumors of the Hydra Stomper, while Nat (listening) definitely knew about Steve:

This ep got me in the feels, all of them.

Peggy going back for Nat AND them running out together <3

Ugh, Nat and her transparent, "Okay. Let's hit the road." Just: THEM.

...and oops, Peggy's gone.

But then! OOOO, this Fury! AND FINALLY, WANDA!!!!!

Overall: similar in ep 4 in that it was close to the emotional impact of Stephen's ep in the first season but still missed the mark (and tbh the Tony ep hit harder, but more because of Tony's characterization--Peggy is fairly consistent, Tony is not, so getting him so right (for me) was incredible). I adore this ep, I love Peggy, I love Nat, I enjoy this universe, and I hope we visit their universe again (if not, there's always fanfic, my beloved).

“What’s going on?” She said once she saw him driving away from the building.

“I’ll explain later honey.” He repeated, driving onto the highway.

“Stop with the ‘honey’! I want answers.”

“You wouldn’t believe me if I told you..”

“I just need you safe and sound, Elle…anyway from him.”

“From who?”

“A clone of me.”

There was a dark speeding car following them, as Steve took a glance at the right view mirror and made a swift turn around the corner as he escape the black vehicle. Stella looked over her shoulder in relief wondering if that was the man in question but once glance at her husband said otherwise as she nodded.

He was serious, his face charging with anger and attention but a form of loving concern for all of it.

The blonde in the speeding came grunted with a piercing glare trying to following the route as he received a phone called and answered, “What?”

“We believe we got eyes on the brunette and the Captain.” Replied the female voice on the other end of the phone.

Hydra's brainwashing vs Red Room's

I wanted to ramble about how, based on the evidence, the brainwashing between Hydra and the Red Room is very different

Steve Hydra Stomper - Red Room

Bucky Winter Soldier - Hydra

For Steve we only have the Ep 5 of the 2nd season of What If while Bucky is an entire character across the Marvel universe but for this I'll just cherry pick Bucky in the MCU

The biggest difference that jumps out to me is how much agency or awareness Steve has, he was able to trick Peggy into believing they'd "deactivated" him. Natasha was right on knowing he was still working for the Red Room but Steve still deliberately gave a line he knew was going to make Peggy believe him.

Bucky in WS mode doesn't have this, he's more detached but not entirely, he responded to Steve when he called him Bucky instead of just staying silent and he asked Pierce and was conflicted about "knowing" the man on the bridge however that man wouldn't be capable of trying to trick Steve into believing he was the Bucky he knew and was deprogrammed, Bucky works completely detached on who he is so he can't possibly do what Steve Hydra Stomper did.

Steve was able to have a full conversation with Peggy as if he'd had his full memories and just "woke up" and honestly the change of who did it I feel has a lot to do.

In Black Widow, the brainwashing is much more sophisticated overall, is all about pheromones and it's more subtle than Bucky's brain-in-a-blender via electricity, of course this is probably due to Bucky's brainwashing happening in the 40s while the one shown in Black Widow is like 70-80 years later and even in What If, Steve went down around the 50s and it's just likely the Red Room just took another approach to it.

It's interesting though, to think how different brainwashing could be between Hydra and the Red Room and how it affected both characters

One of the many things that frustrates me about the MCU is that Steggy could have been something really good - and stay with me now.

It could have been one of the pillars of Steve's story, this man out of time incapable of moving on from things long gone, forever hung up on what if's and could have been's, stuck on this one girl he barely knew, wondering if he ever really had a chance with her.

His ending, the resolution to his story, was supposed to be learning to let go of the past and live in the present. His conclusion was supposed to be throwing that damn compass away, breaking it, burning it, something and going out to a bar to find someone new. He was supposed to move on.

But the creators were so exhaustingly stupid and stubborn, that in the last five minutes of what could have been a really good movie, they broke Steve's character, broke his story and his character arc, broke the time travel rules they established in the very same movie.

Steve's story and Peggy's role in it could have been something really great. They'd been building it up for years. And they screwed it up at the last second, tripped - downright fell on their faces at the finish line.

All because they'd rather break it all themselves than let the fans make up something they didn't agree with.
