Coming June, 2023.
Watch "THE HUMAN FUTURE: Official Trailer" on YouTube
youtube
For some time, I've been an admirer of Melodysheep, who combines science, gorgeous visuals and enthralling music. The first video I saw of theirs, "Timelapse Of The Future" is still a firm favourite of mine, and I loved their "Life Beyond" trilogy so much, I playlisted all three in sequence, so I'm very much looking forward to seeing their presentation of the possible futures and possibilities for humanity.
Assuming it has one.

why is religious Christmas imagery all so joyful and pleasant? where is the inherent horror of the birth of Christ? A mother is handed her newborn child, wailing and innocent. Her hands come away sticky. Red. Simply by giving her son life she has already killed him. He is doomed from the beginning. Her love will not save him from suffering. Because the thing cradled in her arms is not a baby, it is a sacrifice: born amongst the other bleating animals whose blood will one day be spilled in the name of what demands it. the night is silent with anticipation. Mary, did you know? That your womb was also a grave?

End-of-Splatoon thoughts.
Thinking about how since the very start, Splatoon has had a feature where players can draw and post artwork and spot them as graffiti on walls or billboards. Or how the weapons have always been paint brushes and rollers and ballpoint pens. Since its inception, Splatoon has been dedicated to engaging its players with the act of creation and creative expression, showing them how their art can build communities and (literally) change the world.
Thinking about finding golden human-made music discs buried underground for thousands of years, and a grand finale music festival. About the Voyager Golden Records. About those human handprints etched into concrete in Alterna. Did those human artists know it would end like this? First a fiery death and then, eventually, a worldwide celebration of music to represent our shared past, present, and future. Did they know that their songs, insignificant in the face of extinction, would one day become the solution that will save the next dominant life-form from the same fate?
Thinking about how eerily similar the Octarian domes are to Alterna. About how close Inklings and Octolings were to repeating the same mistakes as humans. But their doomed fates were undone not by some miracle technology or military power or a rocket, but by music.
Thinking about how humans wiped themselves out with war, and our parting gifts were liquid crystals that somehow paired with the DNA of primeval inklings and somehow infused them with our memories and culture and a Song. And 12,000 years in the future, that same Song will end a war.
Thinking about how art and music and punk culture and rock & roll and friendly competition and petty arguments and water guns aren’t uniquely human concepts, but the fundamental qualities of intelligent life. An inheritable spirit that can cross evolutionary bounds.
Thinking about the theme of Splatoon, that art and music and fun will not die with the human race. That every piece of art we create is a seed we sow for future generations to reap. That our legacy is ingrained into the crust of the earth. That long after we’re gone, the oceans will remember, and they’ll pick up where we left off.
Thinking about how Splatoon says that the essence of humanity –– the thing that will outlive us –– isn't war or prejudice or destruction or greed, it's a song.

I've been an admirer of musician Melodysheep ever since I stumbled upon their video "Timelapse Of The Future" a few years back. I really enjoyed the fusion of ambient music, art, science and computer generated imagery, it was absolutely enthralling and I thoroughly recommend it; it's thirty minutes of your time I'm certain you won't feel you've wasted by the end.
THE HUMAN FUTURE: A Case for Optimism
youtube
This video - The Human Future - was announced earlier in the year and I was genuinely excited for it. Now it's finally here - the first in a multi-part series - and again, it's an enthralling watch, positing a number of possible solutions and possibilities to the future of our species; amongst them, and of particular interest to me, is that of human-AI-machine hybrids and the digitisation of human consciousness (I suppose in some way, think of the Mentats in Frank Herbert's Dune books) and the coming potential for us becoming a so-called "Type-1 civilisation" on the Kardeshev Scale; a civilisation capable of utilising 100% of the energy from its parent star.
However, there are some things I have slight disagreement with, and that is of a human's purpose; the film posits that a human's purpose - amongst a number suggested - is to save the Earth. I disagree. If we have any primary purpose at all - a point in itself I rather question - it is to save ourselves. Save each other. Our planet has undergone several mass extinctions; cometary impact, supervolcano eruptions, flood Basalt eruptions (the largest of which eradicated over 90% of life on earth at the time), and several ice ages, and our little blue ball kept spinning. Should humans disappear from earth, it'll barely notice the difference. However, caring about and saving ourselves and each other may improve our planet as a consequence, so perhaps that's the goal one should aim for, instead of a larger, rather abstract notion of saving the planet.
Although, being rather misanthropic, I'll find the concept a rather difficult one to personally adopt.

Fenton, the Ghost Hunter Hero
So! When Danny first saw a Ghost attacking his school, he was still terrified of his parents finding out about his Powers.
He looked exactly the same in his Ghost Form, sounded the same, he even had the Hazmat Suit his parents had custom made for him on as a Ghost. There was no way anybody wouldn't immediately find him out if he tried to stop Lunch Lady with his Powers, it was so obvious!
But he couldn't just leave her there. She had crossed through the Portal that he opened, and was attacking his friends. He needed to stop her somehow!
So he tried, he just didn't use his Powers. He stole a bunch of his parents Inventions, fixed the broken ones so they actually worked, and ran in to stop Lunch Lady as a Human. The battle lasted far longer than he would have liked, but eventually he managed to stop her and shove her into the Thermos.
And from there on out, he just kept doing it. Danny became the Town's defacto Hero, since his parents were too Incompetent and he had the ability to actually beat the Ghosts, he had to protect the people he had endangered.
Soon enough people began to notice his Heroics. Mr Lancer didn't stop him when he ran out of the classroom, Dash stopped shoving him in Lockers, and his parents were Ecstatic when they found out he had gone into the "Family Business".
He still kept his Ghost Form hidden from his parents and the Public though. It was still too dangerous.
He only ever used his Ghost Form while in the Ghost Zone so he could blend in, and avoid being attacked by the multiple Ghosts who he had forced back in there. Danny Fenton was a Ghost Hunter, Phantom was just another Ghost wandering the Ghost Zone.
(Though he did gain some infamy by defeating some powerful ghosts, like Aragon or Plasmius)
Years down the line, Fenton remained the respected Ghost Hunting Hero of Amity Park, his greatest accomplishment being the defeat of Pariah Dark, the Ghost King.
That battle had actually drawn outside attention to the town for a change, and it wasn't long before Danny was offered a spot on the Justice League's Junior Team. It wasn't every day when the evil Ruler of another Dimension was defeated by a non-powered Human, so it actually sparked some interest in the Town.
Unfortunately, Danny couldn't accept the Invitation.
If he joined the Justice League, it ws only a matter of time before one of their multitude of Magic Users realized the truth and outed him as a Ghost. He couldn't take that chance.
He was content staying as a small town Hero dealing with a "minor" Ghost Problem, no need to overcomplicate matters.
That is, until the JL contacted him again a few months later. Apparently, their Time Travelers had warned of an Evil Ghost known as Phantom, who would one day grow so powerful he would destroy the world and leave it in ruins. They needed his help as an expert Ghost Hunter to track down Phantom, for the safety of the world.
Problem. This version of Danny had never actually met Dan, since his history went so differently. Now he is terrified of what event could have led to him becoming the Worst Supervillain in History.
