I want to read fic and see art of my blorbo! Unfortunately, my current blorbo is Hela the Unchosen, my ESO Vestige, and if I want any fic, I have to write it and I don't have the spoons. *Sounds of infinite misery and despair*. I have so much in my head and it can't get out!

I think the emphasis on Mhin as a scientist/scholar in the promotional material is so fascinating-- it leans heavily on their pragmatism and intense curiosity, their medical knowledge and the way they relentlessly hunt for answers.
It's like they will (or they already have) sacrifice(d) everything out of a desire to uncover the truth, to know everything they can. It gives the impression that they're single-minded in the pursuits of their goals, dedicated and stubborn, but it comes at the cost of being flexible, or being willing to listen to others.
It's a lonely dedication, because in order to get what they want, they have to believe in their pursuit to the end. A scientist can't give up halfway through an experiment, and if they get proven wrong or quit too early, it means all their earlier effort was useless. It's the sort of pragmatism and curiosity that can descend into obsession if not tempered.
Even their curse is treated as a condition to be cured, or something to be made right. I think their pragmatism and scientific nature is especially fun when you contrast it with their emotional issues, because they most definitely rationalize their emotions and try to sort everything into neat labels and boxes.
The drive for independence, the shunning of other people, the intense scientific curiosity, the tight leash they keep on their emotions... it also speaks to a desire to regain and keep control of their circumstances, made even more so when they feel that control slipping.

If you leave, one of them will die. One of them will die. Try it and see. If you leave, he dies. He can do it. He's already killed two of our colleagues. // “Without inspiration, B'Elanna Torres will perish.” He's threatening to kill off B'Elanna. As the climax to his play.

sure i COULD ramble about how ai is one of the multiple things that check all the marks of humanity's seven deadly sins but would that be extreme
Tumblr media
^^^ possibly insufficiently educated
#the pride the hubris of believing you can do better than innovation and nature by playing god and not in the fun way#the lust it's being used for in so many awful cases#the sloth the way its encouraging everyone to check original sources less before believing anything. Also to not take time to develop skill#the greed its being used for profit without consideration for ethics or fair labour#gluttony. we always have to be faster. shinier. better. no matter if it ends up being less convenient or wonky#the wrath it sows in between people creating more differences to be frustrated over. more hatred#the envy how it takes and takes. always trying to be as clever as the best humans. as beautiful as a real forest or sunset.#do you think the ai wants itself#if this were a scifi movie would we be the bad guys#but this is not a movie and the ai cannot love us. so we cannot love it. and there's that#my post#personal stuff#thinking aloud just silly yapping n jazz 没啥事做就这样咯~#( ̄▽ ̄)~*#when i was in primary school our textbooks for chinese had short stories and articles to learn about#there was a fictional scifi oneshot about a family in the future going to the zoo#the scifi zoo trip was going great until the zoo's systems went offline for a moment#and it was revealed that all the animals roaming in their enclosures were holograms#the real ones went extinct ages ago#when the computers came back online the holograms returned and there they were#honestly at first I thought it was a bit exaggerating#but I still think about it once in a while

Guys. Guys Ben Drowned's canon last name isn't actually Lawman
I've known this for a while, and more I think about it, the more it makes me feel like I should say something 😭
It was a misconception that started with an older version of Ben's page on the Jadusable Wiki. (It was never used for any non-ARG version of Ben prior to this.) I remember spotting Lawman being used as Ben's last name around 2016-2018 or so, and it has been edited out of his page since 2020. (It was on the page they have for the dead child rather than the Network/entity. I think it might've happened before they moved off Fandom wiki, because I think I remember seeing comments and their new wiki doesn't have those).
During the second arc (2011-2012), Jadusable mailed some bonus material to people who donated to him. One of these bonus materials was a section from a newspaper, which describes the murder-suicide of two members of the Lawman family along with their son, with some tampering to the article that appears to have been done by BEN.
You can zoom into the image and read it, or check out it's page on the wiki here (which I highly recommend as it has some added information, like what all the censored words are.) It's a very interesting piece of lore that's fun to analyze--however, I wouldn't recommend reading it if you're super squeamish or sensitive to graphic details related to death. (The method of the killing itself isn't mentioned.)
Tumblr media
While this seems to be about Ben on the surface, it's actually not. The only way we can tell is by the date of the newspaper: In the column to the left of the "Spring Is In The Air!" paragraph, the year 2011 is mentioned, but we know that Ben died on 4/23/2004. The wording of the Lawman event feels recent (as if they're talking about an event a few months prior), when Ben's death would've been far gone by now.
With what's likely BEN tampering on the top right (where they creatively use block-out poetry to say "You shouldn't have done that," among many other things) combined with the mention of someone's son dying, it makes a ton of sense that the wiki editors assumed that Ben is a member of this Lawman family that appears here. At some point, screenshots of the wiki ended up being circulated and the larger Creepypasta fandom accepted Lawman as being Ben's "real" last name.
Lawman is actually the last name of a different (and much less relevant) character, Tyler, who appears briefly in the first and third arcs. It's not entirely clear what happened to him or his family, and I think the Newspaper Article is intended to be fun bonus material for Jadusable's donators rather than something that's meant to supply important information about the ARG characters--something like Ben's last name would be crucial for puzzles and passwords, and would give the 50 donators who received the article an unfair advantage (and Jadusable isn't the type of creator who'd be okay with that). Regardless, it carries some interesting implications about the Behavioral Event Network, and Matt's initials are also here for some reason. It's probably one of the most head-spinning materials in the whole game.

hey you guys know that even if the people inside that submersible are rich billionaires, dying in that metal tube at the bottom of the ocean is a horrific way to die right. like. yeah stupid choices were made by the people in there signing off on a waiver that says the sub is not approved by anyone and they could die. but it’s the fault of OceanGate for knowingly putting people into a Home Depot DIY sub rigged up with an Xbox controller all to make a profit on people’s curiosity.

Sir Sparklepuff: text and subtext
Canon:
Viren and Aaravos share a blood ritual where they cut their hands
Tumblr media
Aaravos pulls a caterpillar out of his mouth
Tumblr media
and uses the blood in the jars to send it to Viren.
Tumblr media
Then, in Lux Aurea, Viren hides it from Pharos' scanning spell by swallowing it, and later spits it out so it can attack Pharos and give Aaravos a temporary body host
Tumblr media
when Viren falls from the Storm Spire and dies, he spends 2 years wrapped in a cocoon to keep his spirit tethered. once Claudia is ready to start reviving him, the caterpillar spins its own web and begins to change.
Tumblr media
A few days later, Claudia cracks open the chrysalis with magic, and Sir Sparklepuff emerges
Tumblr media
And at the end of the month, Aaravos tells Viren that Sir Sparklepuff is "our child" in the same speech where he tells him to kill the homunculus to spare his own life.
Tumblr media
Sir Sparklepuff is the equivalent of a donor child, born specifically to donate something of themselves to a living, dangerously ill blood relative. He is the spawn of both Viren and Aaravos, via whatever magics Aaravos used to make it happen.
Subtext:
Aaravos pulls a fat purple dick out of his mouth and gives it to Viren.
Viren manages to swallow, spit, and also give birth.
He's an attentive, if exasperated, dad who carries his worm son around everywhere, and he's also the dumb blonde who was failed so hard by a lack of sex ed classes that he has to ask "Is it mine??"
Unsupported:
"Aaravos was the pregnant one"
