hmmm I would say music? always been a big fan of just putting on an album, listening to it straight through, and looking off into the distance. good stuff. the poetry of lyrics mixed with instrumentals? I feel like I go through a wide range of emotions in 3-10 minutes. usually inspires me to write!! the emotional cadence of a song usually inspires that of a story so...!!

Starting off Part 1 of “SM Eternal the Movie” this 2023, these special anniversary SM Eternal stickers features the Inner Senshi together in one set with their respective Senshi transformation items & transformation sequences from the movie in sticker style!!!! I got Moon & Chibi Moon, & the 4 Inner Senshi’s in their Super Senshi Forms as they express everyone’s favorite Sailor Guardian transformation battle cry as their Sailor Planet Powers awakens to protect love & justice!!!! Very proud of these masterpieces- God, it was a lot of work getting everything done especially with Jupiter & Venus as recreating their transformation special effects was very hard in the beginning, but it was still totally worth it and everyone looks so awesome and cute and precious!!!!! Other Gods and Their Epithets - Heracles

Continuing our sequence of posts around the best known titles of the Gods, we continue with the God of protection, heroism and strength - Heracles, the best known mortal son of Zeus who reached the status of deity in his afterlife!

Heracles is by far the best known of the Greek demigods, with numerous feats attesting to his heroism and power. Regarded as a great protector of humanity, it is said that after his famous 12 Labors and a lifetime of adventures, he ascended to divine status after falling victim to Deianeira, his last wife, who mistakenly presented him with a tunic covered in the blood of a vile centaur. believing that she would ensure her husband remained faithful to her for eternity. The centaur's blood corroded the hero's flesh, and he did not die of for his own strength, but threw himself onto a pyre and purged himself of the mortal part, becoming one of the Theoi in the process.

As a deity, Heracles married the Goddess of youth, Hebe. He was widely worshipped, with domestic altars bearing apotropaic (protective) inscriptions and in sports halls. He is often depicted as a bearded, muscular, naked man, wielding a club and an impenetrable cloak made from the hide of the Nemean Lion.

Cult-wise, Heracles had many minor shrines and was widely worshiped throughout Hellas, particularly with a strong cult following in the Thebes region.

We list here some of his descriptor epithets, being one of the most popular Gods, Heracles had numerous titles of poetic and cult character.

ALTERNATIVE NAMES Hercules - Common latinization of the name Heracles, it is the most popular name for the son of Zeus, used from the Roman period onwards.

CULT EPITHETS ALEXIKAKOS/APOTROPAIOS - "Who protects against evil/Protector", are titles common to several Hellenic deities, exemplifying the protective power of the god-hero.

Syncretized also with other Gods in late periods such as the phoenician god Tammuz and even Helios-Sol in the Roman period. The son of Zeus is an imposing figure and the ultimate example of Greek heroes in their virtue and power.

Attributed to the protection of humanity, the God of heroes is reported in classical and late writings alike as a divine protector, responsible for warding off evil entities (such as harmful monsters and daimones) or even pestilence. Countless noble lineages of ancient Greece attributed their ancestry to him, claiming to be direct descendants of the greatest of heroes.

Nowadays, Heracles is worshiped as a divine protector. A magnificent god who experienced the complex nuances of human life, Heracles exemplifies virtue and strength beyond adversity.

The Helio Sequence - Lately (Live)

Another plot bunny that's pretty much taking over for N2CatS is the kwagatama thing. See, my one regret for my set up is how Blair could never directly meet her predecessor, Adrien, just as Shizuke could never meet his predecessor, Marinette. The kwagatamas are a game changer. Even better, I've already established Blair and Shizuke have been heroes for a while and their birthdays have recently passed (future is set on a late June, Shizuke mentioned his birthday was on May 4th while Blair has only been 17 for a week) so the odds of them getting or already having a kwagatama is pretty high...

With Blair, I was thinking of workarounds on how she would somehow get a message from future!Adrien considering his involvement in how her family got to settle in Helios, but the kwagatama would allow for a more direct interaction (the only problem is finding an accessible guardian seal for the Black Cat or getting Blair to go to the Louvre). I'm thinking of writing this prequel sequence, just... old man!Adrien helping a family stay together in his last appearance as Chat Noir. Seems like an appropriate last mission for his character. Anyway, Blair could now have someone besides Plagg talk her through to help her forgive Marinette, considering Adrien is another person Marinette has wronged with the Ephemeral scheme (among other things) and he found it in himself to be understanding.

While Shizuke, yeah, it's highly likely he has a kwagatama considering Tikki would totally give him one for his birthday. Considering his own issues with his views on himself being Ladybug (inferiority complex? Impostor syndrome? Either way, he doesn't think he fits the Ladybug mantle), I can see a lot of hesitation on meeting the legendary Ladybug... I'm thinking of a few scenarios to push him towards asking her opinion. Adrien is probably a main factor. Either Adrien encourages him or Adrien does a big whoopsie and Shizuke doesn't know how to feel about it so guardian grandma suggests asking Marinette to help understand him (and future!Marinette smirking in satisfaction seeing her convoluted plan to help out Blair has worked based on Shizuke's answers to her questions wahahaha her way of making it up to Blair hinged on Shizuke and scheming).

Oooh this sounds great! Yeah the Kwagatamas allow for Blair and Shizuke to get some good closure and understanding. I imagine that Blair would also be interested in asking Shizuke how Marinette did in the future, while Shizuke would also be asking Blair to tell him what Adrien's imprint thing had to say. Just... I love the idea of those two getting to know both Adrien and Marinette, and getting a last chance to sort of check up on their new friends, even if it's actually the other person who gets to see them.

However, he noticed a few posts would often go unnoticed, those on the topic of DeFi. Entranced by the potential for tenfold gains, he became a farmer during the DeFi summer of 2021. Zeus started off well, but eventually lost all his gains following a sequence of rugs and poor plays. Back down to 3 figures, he did not quit, instead using his newfound expertise to prosper and now sits comfortably over the 7 figure mark. As an English Major, Zeus will be in charge of all documents and articles published, while also being a figurehead of the discord community alongside Hercules.

how kalli met helios, and learnt a little more about her mother

“Oh, aren’t you pretty!” Kalli cooed, stroking the long nose of one of the smaller horses in the academy stables, the stallion nuzzled into Kalli’s hand and she giggled, “Sweet too.” 

The stallion itself was indeed quite pretty, a soft cream coat, smooth and shiny after being groomed by a few students studying animal welfare earlier in the day. His mane was long and coloured a blazing red that almost resembled fire when he ran. His eyes, however, were dark and beady and had Kalli been the fearful type they might have scared her away from the poor stallion. But instead, she smiled and ran her fingers through his mane, amused by the way he pushed his head against her.

“His name is Helios,” Kalli startled at the intrusion, she turned around quickly, standing in front of the stallion. Her panic was uncalled for when she realised it was only Miss Aniss, her greek mythology teacher. She relaxed with relief, had it been any other teacher she’d probably be in a lot more trouble for being in the stables at this time.

She looked down at the floor and scoffed, “Of course it is.” She may not be the best student, but she knew enough about the greeks to know Helios is the personification of the sun, a fitting name for such a horse as the one nudging the back of her head.

Miss Aniss smiled, that same smile that was only a quirk of the lips and suggested she knew more than she told, “He likes you,” she commented, gesturing to how impatient Helios was getting from his lack of affection.

Kalli turned her body at an angle in which she could see both the teacher and the horse and resumed petting him, “I guess. I think he just likes the attention.”

“You know Miss Kallisto, your mother was always a virtuous rider during her time at Themyscira.” Kalli perked up at the mention of her mum.

“Really?”

“Oh yes. Always sneaking off the stables to care for the horses, taking them out for late-night rides. There was this one horse, Terragon, your mothers favourite I think, she rode him almost every day around the island. He was the perfect horse, fast, strong, agile, the ideal steed I suppose.” Her voice wavered and Kalli feared the story was going to get upsetting. “But, things happen I suppose, he injured himself during a training sequence on the beech, broke his hind leg and could not run any longer. Horses aren’t made to be broken.” Kalli’s fear was right. This was sad. Without thinking she leaned closer to Helios, wrapping an arm around his neck in an unconscious effort to comfort him and herself. “I assumed you know what happens to horses when they’re injured, yes?” Kalli nodded, Miss Aniss carried on, “On Themyscira we honour them like any other warrior, give them an Amazons burial. Your mother cried for days.” Kalli sniffled, trying to hold back the tears no matter how hard they tried to fall down her face and expose her in front of her teacher. Miss Aniss looked to the ground and frowned, “I almost feared that was one of the reasons she left.”

Kalli sniffled once again and turned away, staring at the ceiling and refusing to cry.

Miss Aniss placed a hand on her shoulder, ignoring the way Kalli flinched under the touch, “Have you thought of taking equestrian classes, Miss Kallisto?”

Kalli shook her head, “No, no I didn’t think of it.”

Miss Aniss looked between the young girl and the stallion, who was nudging Kalli gently, “I think it may benefit you.” She took her hand away and made towards the exit quietly.

Kalli turned to look at her teacher one last time that night, patting Helios softly and called, “I’ll think about it Miss Aniss.”

Alexandra Savior Q + A

Alexandra Savior‘s The Archer is a document of and reflection on manipulative romantic and professional relationships that she experienced. Dropped by Columbia Records after the release of her debut, Belladonna of Sadness, Savior poured her heart out and came up with her best songs yet. We called The Archer, produced by rock vocalist, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Sam Cohen and released on Danger Mouse’s 30th Century Records, “honest and soulfully retro,” an illustration of Savior taking ownership over her situation, not letting others decide her fate. 

Savior was kind enough to answer over email some questions about the record. Read the Q + A below!

Since I Left You: Do you find it emotionally taxing to sing or look back at these songs, therapeutic, or somewhere in the middle?

Alexandra Savior: I feel like it is therapeutic to listen to my own experiences and how aware I was of whatever emotional scenario I was in, even unconsciously. Sometimes, performing them can really wear me out on an emotional level, though.

SILY: What's the inspiration behind the sequencing of the record?

AS: For sequencing, I am usually so turned around from recording that I will take more advice from the producer. I think Sam [Cohen] and I both liked the idea of beginning and ending the record with very raw songs. Other than that, I dunno.

SILY: Why did you decide to release the album through 30th Century Records?

AS: When I was dropped from Columbia, I was sending my record around to a lot of indie labels and got no responses. Brian Burton, who runs 30th Century, is a bud of mine, so it made sense that when he offered to sign me, I was very comfortable with that choice.

SILY: What's the story behind the album art?

AS: My friend Dana Trippe photographed it for me. We have a very similar aesthetic, so I just let her be in control. She is so talented; it was a very simple process.

SILY: How are you adapting these songs to the live stage?

AS: Right now, we have a few different versions of the songs, adding violin, or subbing the bass with a meg bass, depending on the venue or the budget of the tour.

SILY: How have your aesthetic and lyrical influences changed over the course of your career?  

AS: I think my confidence, in general, has improved, so I am more experimental with my work than before. When I was 16 or 17 writing songs, they were trite and scattered. Now, I feel like I understand structure more and how to convey my emotions without being too literal.

SILY: What's next for you?

AS: I am doing a small American tour in February, and I will be setting out on a big European tour in May!

SILY: What have you been listening to, watching, or reading lately that's caught your attention?

AS: Listening to a lot of Molly Drake and Sibylle Baier, reading a lot of Ottessa Moshfegh, and watching a lot of films starring Mia Farrow.

When a forgotten song is rediscovered, it can take you back to the moment you sat cross legged in front of the door step, watching the person you care so much about talk about wanting someone else as the bugs buzzed around a flickering porch light. The familiar rhythm of the drums could beat the moments right out of you, like the time you drove together all night, not a clue where you were going, but going down hill fast was the most exciting thing at 2am, and it was scary when the front of your car scratched the gravel. You laughed. The lyrics of these songs brought you back to a time when all you wanted was to see a smile, to be the one who sparked the light behind a person's eyes. That's all you wanted. You ate grapes in bed, and stared at the ceiling because you couldn't sleep. You tried to leave in the morning but they asked why and you lied. And when you got home, you realized you've listened to the same song for 30 minutes in the car over and over again. You start the song and you wished you hadn't left them. You question why you were so afraid.

UC 49.12 - Wolfson, Oxford vs Sheffield

If you’ve ever seen one of those sickeningly banal LinkedIn copypastas about how an HR assistant once hired someone even though they were late for the interview because they showed a heck of a lot of moxie anyway then you have Wolfson College Oxford to thank for it, as it was presumably where website founder Reid Hoffman learned all of his recruitment gibberish.

I was about to say that ‘if you’ve ever seen Nick Clegg then you’ve got Sheffield to thank for it, so I don’t know whats worse’, but of course that wasn’t the Uni. It did however lead me onto Sir Nick’s wikipedia page which has a fascinating story about how he, as a 16 year old in Munich, drunkenly set fire to ‘Germany’s leading collection of cacti’. You never know when you’re going to learn something interesting.

Anyway, Wolfson are the only debutants in this years competition, their sister college at Cambridge having famously made the final a few years ago. Sheffield too, were beaten finalists back in 2008.

Wolfson’s Walker won the first ten points of the night by correctly recognising various things which have been minted onto fifty pence coins (see, cash does still have its uses!). Sheffield countered with a perfect hat-trick of Starters and converted bonuses, a sequence rarely seen. Wolfson won the picture round, but Lyle somehow knew not only that there was a specific word for a blob of toothpaste, but what that word was too (nurdle) to seize back the initiative, though they lost their perfect record on the bonuses, only taking two.

The music Starter, on Don Giovanni, went to Wolfson, and despite having just read Killing Commendatore, which features a painting based on the opera, I was unable to recognise it. I did abslutely nail the bonuses on list songs though (Cole Porter, LCD Soundsystem, Madonna) to redeem myself.

Both teams were buzzing along at quite a pace, so it wasn’t a surprise to find ourselves tied at 110 each with more than five minutes to go. Neither side could asert themselves in the closing stages though, with a ping-pong intensity developing as one went ahead, and then the other. At a certain point it started to seem inevitable that they would go on cancelling each other out for as long as possible, and that they did. At the gong, we were level again: 170 to 170.

A first tiebreak of the season, always an exciting event.

Jez lets him off with this blunder, perhaps because he gives the correction without actual prompting, and also because he knows the losing side will have another chance in the play offs. An interesting end to an exhilirating game. And Sheffield will be back, for sure.

Heirverse masterlist for my personal use

I’ve just overhauled the masterlist on my ff.net profile to try and make it more “reader friendly” (read: less intimidating to look at. If that is even possible at this point)
