More than words
For my friend @oakenshieldgisborneandbuchanan. Bucky x Wife!reader
Inspired by the following imagines from @thefandomimagine:
Imagine Bucky taking care of you after you twist your ankle
Bucky. Just imagine Bucky;
Imagine having a training session with Bucky that turns into a make out session
Imagine being pregnant with Bucky’s baby
Category: super fluff with elements of angst, spice
NOTE: this fic was written BEFORE the release of ‘Endgame’ and contains no spoilers (unless I’m suddenly clairvoyant).
Tumblr media
“You shouldn’t have done that.”
You’re tempted to ask “which ‘that’ are you talking about?” but as Bucky stands by the exam table you’re resting on, he is dead serious. There are literally hundreds of things you should not have done in the name of loving him. Most of them have involved getting him out of harm’s way and putting yourself in his place. That’s how you ended up in a tiny, hole-in-the-wall clinic with a sprained ankle. A hateful zealot pretending to seek an autograph got a little too grabby, culminating in weapons drawn and shots fired. He called Bucky a traitor, a murderer, and a half a dozen other things before you took him down with a poorly executed - but effective - body slam, twisting your ankle during the struggle.
It could have been worse, and it has been. And you’d do it all over again.
“I couldn’t just let that guy take you out,” you reply, grateful that the near-assassin is in custody.
“It’s not your job to save me.”
Easier said than done. And you definitely don’t say it. The sappiest things you’ve ever said to each other were uttered at your ceremony - a quiet affair done in secret, save for Steve’s mandatory presence, at your apartment that became your passionate wedding suite later that night. There was no fanfare to the event, just heartfelt words, sweet kisses, close friends and good food. But your vows have stayed locked in your memory. So much has happened since then. Among other things, you lost him for a time to that snap-happy giant purple maniac. From that moment on, the saying ‘actions speak louder than words’ hit you square in the gut.
It was nothing short of a miracle that he returned to you. So you’ve vowed to make your actions big, your words few. You show him your love; words are meaningless. If Bucky doesn’t know by now just how far you’ll go to keep him on this side of the earth, he’ll never know.
Bucky strokes two fingers over your bandaged foot, which you loosened and sloppily re-applied while he stepped away to talk with the physician’s assistant who first examined you. For a good five seconds, he looks from your hurried, bandage job to you and back again, with an expression that says, “really?”
“Nice try.”  He unwinds the fabric, then begins re-wrapping it. He makes the last few revolutions with his eyes on you.
“That’s more like it,” he says. To your delight, the tighter wrapping isn’t uncomfortable. He’s better than a doctor. But you’ve known that forever.
He finishes and secures the bandage, then surprises you with a quick kiss on the top of your covered foot. He gives you just the slightest smile, enough to set a flock of butterflies free in the pit of your stomach.
“Maybe you shouldn’t have done that,” you say, mimicking him.
His smile widens, melting you.
The doctor comes in. Thank goodness. Bucky’s “bedside manner” was about to get steamy.
Good news. No Xrays needed. You can go home.
“It’s not a terribly bad injury, but you need to take it easy so it can properly heal,” the doctor says. “No more of whatever it is you did to sprain your ankle in the first place.” The doctor has questions in her eyes. She glances at Bucky’s arm, concealed by a jacket. Her gaze moves to his face, the bill of an army green baseball cap pulled low to partially hide his features.
The doctor turns back to you. “What exactly were you doing, anyway?”
“Jogging,” you answer. “We both were. I fell into a ditch.”
The doctor cocks an eyebrow. “Did the ditch shoot you, too? There’s a bullet hole through your jacket.”
You shrug. “It’s a fashion thing. Bought it that way.”
“Mm-hm.” The doctor’s not buying it. She rocks on the heels of her shoes and cuts another look back to Bucky. You can tell she has definitely seen him before, but not you. That’s a good thing. You are, in many ways, his cover. He neither wants nor needs to be recognized. But maybe your fierce protection has brought down his guard a little.
That’s a bad thing.
Great. Yet another worry to upset your mind. Since his return, the two of you have yet to know what complete peace and normalcy feel like. Life seems so strange - fragile as the thinnest glass, strong as steel; deeper than unseen galaxies, shallow as a puddle. Lasts too long for those who don’t appreciate it, too short for those who cherish every moment.
Everything seems so confusing sometimes, and you don’t have the words to express it. You and Bucky once talked about starting a family. Now, you’re not so sure you can keep him from the madness of this world and bring another human into it.
After a lecture about proper jogging form, safe running surfaces, and bad fashion fads, the doctor says, “I’ve written you a prescription for pain, and I think we can drum up some crutches that are appropriate for your height. But you really just need to rest. Get waited on hand and foot. Pun intended.”
***
At your apartment, Bucky places an arm around your waist while you drape yours across the back of his broad shoulders, hobbling toward your door. You’ve never been so glad to live on the first floor.
“You sure you don’t want me to bring in the crutches?” he asks, opening the door.
“Ugh. Overkill.” Forget those things. It’s more trouble learning how to walk with them than just hobbling. Besides, you never realized how good it feels to lean on Bucky.
All at once, he turns and scoops you into his arms before you know what’s happening. You could protest, but honestly, it feels nice, and you’re tired.
“We didn’t even do this on our honeymoon,” you say. “Oh, wait. We didn’t have one.”
“This isn’t one, either,” he replies, shutting the door with a swift backward kick, “but as soon as you’re well - ”
“Hold on.” You twist your body a bit to press your thumbprint to the security system’s bio-ID pad, turning off the security system. You reset the alarm, then slide the old-fashioned metal locks into place - all ten of them. Your idea, of course.
“Overkill,” he says in a low voice, but of course you hear him. You growl and lightly bite the tip of his ear until he laughs.
After repositioning yourself in his arms, he walks you to the faded denim couch. He props your head and feet up with pillows. After briefly disappearing into the bedroom, he returns with a magnificent, jewel-toned quilt, a gift from King T’Challa. Coming from Wakanda, there is more to it than meets the eye.
Princess Shuri calls it a kimoyo sheath. Once on, the colors fade and the entire piece turns black, highlighted with symbols, just like the beads, but the sheath’s symbols correspond to the body’s various systems. It conforms to your body, providing cocoon-like comfort. But it does so much more. The sheath’s keen sensors regulate core temperature; run full-body checks; make diagnoses; suggest treatment for illnesses, and in some cases, provide it.
A thin blue light illuminates on top of your twisted ankle, following by words: Grade 1 Ankle Sprain. After the diagnosis is translated into different languages, the bottom section of sheath clings to the affected area and gives it an infusion of enveloping, soothing cold.
“Wow.” You’re in absolute awe. In the past, the sheath has picked up on cramps, shoulder dislocation, bruised hips, gas, and impending diarrhea. You tested it a lot after you first received it, just messing around, but then life got in the way of goofing off. This thing is brilliant. You should use it more often.
“Check this out!” you call, suddenly realizing Bucky has been quietly puttering in the open kitchen. “We could have just come home and used this fancy blankie instead of going to that understaffed clinic.”
“Couldn’t risk it. I thought you’d broken your ankle.”
You hear him moving things around in the open kitchen, but you’re too zonked to sit up and check. “Hey, what are you doing in there?” you ask.
“You’ll see.” He enters the room holding a tray with a sandwich, a glass of water with a twist of lemon, and your prescription bottle sitting next to it.
“You shouldn’t have done that,” you say with a grateful smile. But he doesn’t respond. He’s frozen.
“Bucky? What’s wrong?”
He drops the tray.
“Are you OK?” The words screech from your throat as you sit up and swing your legs to the floor. Did that maniac from earlier today get to Bucky - slip him something without either of you noticing? That’s impossible! You were on that clown like white on rice before he could fire off another shot.
“No, no. Lay back down,” Bucky says, stepping over the mess and kneeling beside the couch.
“Why?” You put your feet back on the pillow but sit with your elbows propped up. You can’t fully relax until you know what’s going on.
“The blanket,” he says. He sighs through a warm smile, his eyes soft.
“Yeah. It’s cooling my sprained foot. Pretty amazing, huh?”
“Not as much as this.” He places his hand below your belly button, under the blue words.
You sit up higher and look down at the scrolling translations.
Ukuthomba - amaviki amane.
Zwangerschap - vier weken.
Schwangerschaft - vier wochen.
Gestation - four weeks.
“What the!” Your eyes double in size. “Gestation, as in p-pregnant? When and how?”
He shrugs, his smile lighting up the room. “Like it said, four weeks ago. The rest, I think you know.”
You rewind your memories. Four weeks, four weeks... Debriefings. Training, lots of training, in preparation for possible new threats. Installing the metal locks while practicing some back kicks. Testing the integrity of the door by having him press against you, your back to the thick steel. A quick, stolen kiss. A shared laugh over a dumb joke. A serious lesson in defensive moves, winter soldier-style. Another quick, distracting kiss. A knee to the groin that was only supposed to make him flinch, not make contact. Him, pretending to double over in pain. You, swatting his shoulder when you realized he played you. Kiss number three, deeper and more urgent. Breathlessness. Peeling clothes away...
And ZERO protection.
“Wow,” you breathe, closing the delicious memory and finishing up a few quick mental calculations. The timing makes sense. “So that’s how that works.”
“Mystery solved.” Bucky chuckles through his brilliant smile, then kisses your cheek, the tip of your nose, your mouth. Tenderly, lovingly.
“Talk to me,” he says.
Of all the things you thought he’d say, that isn’t one of them. You’re not ready for words. You shake your head. “I don’t know what to say. Nothing seems sufficient.”
“Talk. to. me.”
It takes you another second or so to gather the words, but surprisingly, they come. You tell him the truth: that you’re happy - shocked, but happy. That even if you weren’t pregnant, you’d be happy, because he’s with you, and together you make a damn fine team. That you’re a little scared - not just about the baby and how life will change, but about him. That you’re afraid you’ll miss something and he’ll be taken from you again. That you can’t be everywhere and you won’t always be by his side. That you never want to leave him vulnerable.
Saying the things on your heart is healing. There is so much more to loving this man than protecting him.
“Make no mistake,” you add, “carrying a child isn’t going to stop me from kicking ass.”
“I know.” He strokes your hair. “But promise me this: you’ll remember that we’re in this together. You don’t have to shoulder everything. I’ll be more vigilant, more careful. And we’re going to have a real honeymoon, and your only job is to relax and be happy with me.” He rubs your belly and smiles broadly. “With us.”
Joyous tears streaming down your face as you nod enthusiastically and kiss his lips. You wrap your arms around his neck, pulling him close, telling him how much you love him. With his warm cheek against yours, he trembles in your embrace. That’s when you realize he’s at the most vulnerable point you’ve ever seen him, and he’s going to be just fine.

🖋️ : Do you find dialogue harder than prose or vice versa? How much? Are they about the same?
-Dialogue is easier, every day of the century.
Writing dialogue is an exercise in critical thought. What does the character want? What’s in their way? How are they trying to remove that obstacle? They say the things, or don’t say the things, they feel, and then you depict the after-effects of the saying or not-saying that just took place. Simple, straight forward.
Prose, on the other hand, is not straight forward. And it’s all because of a little technique called “the conservation of detail”. And when I talk about “conservation of detail”, I’m not talking about editing out useless prepositions or truncating pages of indulgent, scene-setting description of the environment. Hell, most of the reason I love John Steinbeck’s writing is because he doesn’t do that; Grapes of Wrath’s whole first chapter is indulgent, scene-setting description of the environment! No, I mean conservation of detail in the macro level. Allow me to explain.
There’s an adage in writing that I find absolutely trite and undescriptive of how writing works: “Show don’t tell”. It’s a perfectly reasonable thing to teach. The audience isn’t going to feel something unless it’s shown, so show it to them rather than telling them about it. I mean, I think it’s easy to forget that you don’t want them to feel every moment of your story; they’ll get exhausted, or bored, or both, but that’s why the three-word lesson is often an incomplete one.
But of course, there are things that you neither want to show nor tell. Those things are what “conservation of detail” refers to.
Let me give you an example. This is an excerpt from Neil Gaiman’s “American Gods”. I’ll spare you the specifics, all you need to know is that protagonist Shadow Moon, recently released from prison, has come to meet a stranger in a bar.
-
“Southern Comfort and Coke, straight up,” said a voice from behind Shadow.
“I’ll go and talk to the barman,” said Wednesday. He stood up, and began to make his way toward the bar.
“Aren’t you going to ask what I’m drinking?” called Shadow.
“I already know what you’re drinking,” said Wednesday, and then he was standing by the bar. Patsy Cline started to sing “Walking After Midnight” on the jukebox again.
The Southern Comfort and Coke sat down beside Shadow. He had a short ginger beard. He wore a denim jacket covered with bright sew-on patches, and under the jacket a stained white T-shirt. On the T-shirt was printed:
IF YOU CAN’T EAT IT, DRINK IT, SMOKE IT, OR SNORT IT . . . THEN F*CK IT!
He wore a baseball cap, on which was printed:
THE ONLY WOMAN I HAVE EVER LOVED WAS ANOTHER MAN’S WIFE . . . MY MOTHER!
He opened a soft pack of Lucky Strikes with a dirty thumbnail, took a cigarette, offered one to Shadow. Shadow was about to take one, automatically—he did not smoke, but a cigarette makes good barter material—when he realized that he was no longer inside. He shook his head.
“You working for our man then?” asked the bearded man. He was not sober, although he was not yet drunk.
“It looks that way,” said Shadow. “What do you do?”
The bearded man lit his cigarette. “I’m a leprechaun,” he said, with a grin.
Shadow did not smile. “Really?” he said. “Shouldn’t you be drinking Guinness?”
-
That line at the end always gets me. “Shadow did not smile.” Our minds instinctively look for Shadow’s reaction, and Gaiman gives us the absence of a smile. Noteworthy, Gaiman does not give us “Shadow smiled, though he wanted to”. Nor does he give us “Shadow didn’t smile, cuz even though it was the kind of thing Shadow would smile at he’s like mega emotionally repressed, to the point where he’ll keep up a stoic affect in the face of utter ridiculousness”.
In prose, it’s sometimes better to say less in order for the audience to feel more.
AND YET
And yet, none of what I just said means anything. What do I mean? I mean from “Prose, on the other hand...” to “...say less in order for the audience to feel more. is all as incomplete of a lesson as “Show don’t tell”. Why is that? Why would I say that? What am I talking about? Let’s slow down for a minute.
In that scene between Shadow and the Leprechaun, in the book American Gods, written by the style Neil Gaiman had spent the whole book writing in, the whole “conservation of detail” thing I just told you about works exactly as I described it. Say less, audience feels more.
However, it doesn’t always work like that. Sometimes, you say more and the audience feels more anyways. Take this passage from my favorite novel of all novels: Fyodor Dostoyevsky’s “Crime and Punishment”, in which the main character, Raskolnikov, contemplates many different fates for himself after committing a double homicide.
-
“Where is it,” thought Raskolnikov. “Where is it I’ve read that someone condemned to death says or thinks, an hour before his death, that if he had to live on some high rock, on such a narrow ledge that he’d only room to stand, and the ocean, everlasting darkness, everlasting solitude, everlasting tempest around him, if he had to remain standing on a square yard of space all his life, a thousand years, eternity, it were better to live so than to die at once! Only to live, to live and live! Life, whatever it may be!... How true it is! Good God, how true! Man is a vile creature!... And vile is he who calls him vile for that,” he added a moment later.
-
Here’s the thing: This whole block of text is not the thrilling climax of the novel. It’s not a speech given to or by the main character presenting the thesis of the story. It doesn’t even come at a very important time in the book-- he says this in response to a sick woman criticizing how much money he’s given to a prostitute before even making use of her services. And then, he doesn’t even make use of her services! He says this and storms off.
The important thing about this passage is that no word was spared. No element was left unexaggerated, no feeling left unsaid. And yet, it is not a passage without subtext. Even though he said every single thought in his mind, we still know more weighs down on him than what he was even capable of expressing.
So at the same time that a laconic turn of a phrase can evoke the feeling of great expanses of emotion, just as well can verbose passages of unyielding emotion. Essentially what I’m saying is, prose is hard because no rule about prose is certain. Even “show don’t tell” can be undermined for dramatic effect! Using these techniques is not at all easy. I would go so far as to say that most works don’t make creative use of writing, including my own “Robyn and Evadaro” stories, which like most pieces of fiction, relate the events I wish to depict rather unambitiously. Naturally you don’t have to, and probably shouldn’t, attempt to make every passage of your work into a demonstration of your writing ability. But opportunity begets temptation, and the desire to reach for such heights is as ever-present as it is self-sabotaging.
TL;DR: Prose is harder.

Nutrition sustains your body. It sustains your very life. Is there anything more important? Here are some tips on how to give your body the nutrients it needs. These are tips for a long and healthy life. Eating the proper foods deserves your utmost consideration.
Similar to other fitness trackers, you'll need to first walk through a short setup on the watch itself. In particular, you'll be asked to divulge a few specifics about yourself, including weight, height, gender and birth year. You can also set a max heart rate - a sort of redline, if you will - though that's, of course, optional, especially if you didn't bother to buy the available heart rate monitor. Once you do that, you're ready to start moving.
Baseball hats are available in all colours and styles, shapes and sizes. Fitted hats however have an exclusive design for a unique and youthful lifestyle. They are customized and are used by golf and tennis players. Soccer players use beanies and visors as they are used in winters and spring. They belong to the warm category. Visor beanies are the craze now. Stores have witnessed a rush for them. They are available in different patterns and sizes. Runner caps have exclusively designed head wear for running and athletics, marathon races, cyclists and fishing. Gardner's also use them often. They cover your neck and face. Polo caps are another unique variety. They protect you against UV rays. Ladies hats include tea garden party war, church and religious ceremony wear, bridal wear, street wear and much more apparel.

Take a look at the merchant or store that has the shirt for sale. If you're not able to physically see the merchant (like if you're buying from eBay or Craigslist) then look at other elements such as the photographs and the writing. Check the grammar of any text, and be sure to call any provided telephone numbers to see if they are real.
Comfort is the primary concern for any one whether a sports woman, housewife, college girl, or working woman. Women casual wear is the one way of getting such comforts. However besides the comfort, every woman wishes to look fashionable and keep up with the current fashion styles without looking sloppy and out of fashion.
Thin badminton strings perform excellently as its thickness ranges from 0.62 mm to 0.73 mm. The normal tension strength of the string available in the market is 80 N to 160 N. in the professional strings, the tension is of about 110 N and 160 N but the recreational players prefer strings that have slightly less tension ranging from 80 N and 110 N.

Sarongs flatter all body types which is why they are the most popular wedding dresses to wear at the beach. Have you always dreamed of being a fashion designer yet don't even know how to turn on the sewing machine? A sarong gives you the opportunity to become a fashion designer! Create the style of your beach wedding dress; no sewing required. Choosing the look you want is as simple as tying a knot! You can invent a halter, strapless, or two-piece wedding dress depending on how you tie the sarong. Some guests may even mistake your sarong for a traditional wedding dress; the only difference is sarongs are more comfortable and often less expensive!
The great thing that comes out of this is a kind of physical culture and training regime is a work ethic that most people can take back into the gym with them, and get much better results. At these camps, such as outdoor fitness boot camp Camp Technique” in Los Angeles, weekend inductees (maggots?) engage in everything from super circuit training, to advanced stretching techniques, to weighted ball training, to weak point training”… in order to realize that what they originally thought was a hard training session was more like wetting the bed in their sleep!
Tumblr media
Even though this company is one of the oldest for gym wear, it still keeps up with the newest fashionable styles and designs, and this means you get the best Mens Adidas superstar shoes for sale , Mens Adidas forest hills casual shoes for sale online remain both original and genuine and this is why it continues to be such a popular choice in both young and old.
Tumblr media
Workout gear can range in price. What I recommend spending the money on is properly fitting workout bras and bottoms such as yoga pants. The cheaper ones don't always fit as well, often fade quickly and don't offer an array of lengths. I love LuLuLemon for yoga bottoms, they also happen to give your tush a little lift which makes you feel great. Zella is another great brand, they feel so great you can live in them at home-so comfy! The material doesn't fade and they last far longer than the other brands I've tried. For sports bras, I love Victoria's Secret sport, Champion for Target and I've been known to find some great tops and bras from discount retailers like TJMaxx, Marshall's and the like, even some on the clearance racks. Lately, I'm loving the workout options from Nordstrom online because they offer free shipping and free returns too if something doesn't fit-less time driving and shopping, more time for working out!

These days a significant part of clothing mainly among women is the legging
They can provide you with an athletic look and sometimes mixed with other items of clothing can be extremely easy around the eye
Leggings are located in various colors, some stretchy, some tight, but generally very attracting the onlooker
Terrific combinations with leggings like skirts thigh length boots, snazzy belts and buckles and leather jackets, will be easily accepted as nice attire
Leggings are available in various materials including denim, spandex, lycra, cotton and stretch denim, the satin look is fantastic and are a very good addition with a well matched female
Body Building Clothing That Looks Good And Feels Comfortable
There are a massive variety of businesses that make gym clothing that has been particularly created for women, which suggests the clothes are tailored with a womanly shape
Which then leaves you feeling more positive since the outfit are nicely designed for the body rather than being baggy and allowing you to feel larger than you are and weighing you down because of the extra fabric
Companies like Zoca Active has produced clothes that comfortably fit and flatter a womanly shape, they comprehend the requirement for attractive design shapes but never let the technology of the clothing be compromised
Tumblr media
Why Everyone Picks The Wrong Workout Clothes
Gym clothes by nature have to be breathable and resistant against absorbing your perspiration because you figure out, which is always best to pick a fabric that can wick away moisture
Be it a sports bra, a set of Lycra shorts for the spin class, or longer stretch pants for a couple of yoga stretches, fitness clothes have to permit you to breath and achieve a full-range of motion
That being said, even though your gym gear must be functional, i am not saying it must lack any fashion sense
If you are picking out a sports bra, you'll need something which will hold facing even most rigorous exercise and make certain to get the one that fits you snugly and after that the one which is in a very style and colour that suits you
The same goes to suit your needs fitness clothes which are always visible; your shorts, shirts, and pants ought to interact in both improving your confidence and motivating you to adhere to your gym appointments
Tumblr media
Cotton is great but doesn't last. It absorbs sweat a lot so you will be sweaty rapidly. I use it when I play tennis or ping pong. I keep several extra shirts and change 2-3 times throughout a 3 hour workout. That's what not what everyone loves to complete. But these shirts don't last lengthy because everything sweat absorbed contains acidic material that ruins cotton over several washes. People love it nevertheless they don't last long. Wrong choice for long workouts. Pick cotton for brief workouts of walks.

The "rest" category includes plastic based material for gym wear or rubber based material is just bad. I've known many individuals get discouraged relating to workout because they feel terrible from a workout plus reality, it had been only the material of the clothes that's driving them to feel "suffocated" in those clothes. People still pick these because they are cheap or simply because they are just ignorant. Bad choice in nearly all workout scenarios.

LAYERS CHARACTER MEME
Tumblr media
LAYER ONE : THE OUTSIDE
Name: Alp Yavuz
Eye Color: Brown/Hazel
Hair Style/Color: Dark brown, buzzed short (he’s had it longer, including growing it out when he first left the Army, but he was so used to it being short that he cut it again, and it’s a lot easier to deal with in the shop).
Height: 6’2”
Clothing Style: It depends on the occasion.  In the garage you’ll find him in t-shirts or tank tops, or Carhartt-type jackets/coveralls if it’s cold, and jeans or work pants and steel-toe boots—he knows he’s going to get dirty and needs tough clothes that won’t rip when he’s sliding under vehicles or carrying parts around.  His everyday casual look is a mixture of grunge/1950s greaser/urban styles: t-shirts, flannels, denim or leather or utility jackets, slim jeans/pants, biker boots, aviators, baseball caps or beanies.  He wears fairly muted colors (black, white, navy, dark red, grey, green) and tends to go with a looser fit on top and more fitted pants.  Since being in the Army, he often blouses his boots—more out of habit than style, but it’s practical, especially in Chicago winters and rain. He doesn’t mind wearing suits for Kovali business, though—and this kid does look sharp in a suit.
Best Physical Feature: His eyes.
 LAYER TWO: THE INSIDE
Fears: Losing people he cares about.
Guilty Pleasure: House-hunting and cooking shows.  He’s not looking for a house and his cooking’s more functional than fancy, but if he just needs to chill out for a while that’s what he’ll watch.
Biggest Pet Peeve: People asking him to tell them about Iraq.  He doesn’t want to talk about it.
Ambition for the Future: He just wants to figure things out.
 LAYER THREE: THOUGHTS
First Thoughts Waking Up: Sometimes—too often—a reality check and trying to get rid of tension, if not remnants of nightmares—even on a “good” night he’ll clench/grind his teeth and sleep tensed up. But if he wakes up peacefully, he’s eager to get up and get his day started.  He’s a morning person.
What They Think About the Most: Work, probably, but it feels like he’s always thinking about Iraq.
What They Think About Before Bed: He tries to tire himself out enough that he’ll fall asleep right away, but if he can’t, his thoughts definitely veer towards being overseas.  He hates it.
What They Think Their Best Quality Is: Loyalty.  He’s always got his buddies’ backs.
 LAYER FOUR: WHAT’S BETTER?
Single or Group Dates: Single.
Beauty or Brains: Honestly, at this point he just wants someone who’s willing to put up with him, even if it’s just for a little while. :’(
Dogs or Cats: Dogs.
 LAYER FIVE: DO YOU?
Lie: In his personal life, no, but for the gang’s benefit?  Absolutely.
Believe in Yourself: He used to.
Believe in Love: Yes.  His grandparents and parents have it.
Want Someone: No one in particular.
 LAYER SIX: EVER?
Been on Stage: Yes, for music!
Done Drugs: Look, he’s tried a lot of things to deal with PTSD.  None of it really helped, though (some made it worse), and he knew how bad it’d be to get hooked, so he tries not to think of them as an option.
Changed Who You Were to Fit In: He doesn’t know who he is anymore, so the question will be whether he lets the Kovali change him.
 LAYER SEVEN: AGE
DOB:  November 13, 1993 (25, but looks older, and he won’t volunteer how young he is)
Age You Lost Your Virginity: TBD, but definitely several years ago—he had some good relationships in high school, but since coming back he’s had a hard time making relationships work, so there’ve been lots of hookups.
Does Age Matter: Less so if someone’s older than him than if they’re younger.  If someone’s 2-3 years younger than him it feels like way more of an age difference than someone 4-5 years older, because this kid has Seen A Lot.
LAYER EIGHT: IN A BOY OR GIRL
Best Personality: PATIENT, gentle, kind.  The past few years he’s completely let go of “this is my Ideal Woman” and just gone for “all I want is someone who’ll put up with me.” :’(
Best Eye Color: No preference
Best Hair Color: Dark, but it’s not a huge deal
Best thing to do with a Partner: Honestly, right now just hold them.  He doesn’t talk much anymore, and planning dates/activities definitely takes a backseat to just knowing someone’s there and being able to forget everything but them for a while.
 LAYER NINE: FINISH THE SENTENCE
I love: My family. I feel: …Too much. I hide: What happened. I miss: My buddies. I wish: Everything would make sense again.

How Sportswear Took Over Your Wardrobe
http://fashion-trendin.com/how-sportswear-took-over-your-wardrobe/
How Sportswear Took Over Your Wardrobe
Let’s kick off with a question: what is the most valuable clothing brand in the world? That would be sportswear giant Nike, which topped the 2018 league table with a total worth of $28bn, despite a 12 per cent drop due to “challenges” in North America and some executive misconduct.
Buoyed by rampant sneaker culture and shifting dress codes, this should be a surprise to no-one, because there has been a fundamental shift in men’s fashion. Comfort got cool. The tastemakers went technical. Tracksuits became high fashion. At what point do we stop compartmentalising it as “sportswear” and just call it fashion, or clothes?
Fashion’s brand rankings are a clear indication, if you needed one, that sportswear is no longer restricted to the playing of sport. Trailing behind the mighty swoosh, according to marketing consultants Brand Finance, are high street behemoths H&M and Zara, which finished second and third on $19bn and $17bn respectively, followed by a resurgent Adidas, up 41 per cent year on year to $14bn (one of Nike’s principle “challenges” in North America).
That’s way ahead of the luxurious likes of Hermès, Louis Vuitton and Cartier, which only just reach double figures – of billions of dollars, but still. Being able to wear T-shirts, sweatpants and trainers for more than going to the gym or the corner shop is, after all, the ultimate luxury.
What’s changed in recent years is exactly that: sportswear is no longer just casual dress. Even if you work in an office, there’s a good chance you’ll have a pair of sneakers on, perhaps some drawstring trousers. There could be a sweatshirt slung over your chair, a baseball cap on your desk, a track jacket in your bag. Today, it’s completely normal to look smart in clothes that were originally designed to sweat in.
This isn’t brand new, of course. Rene Lacoste’s 1927 innovation of a lightweight, breathable “tennis shirt” was subsequently adopted by polo players, Ralph Lauren and the rest of us. Sporting on-court clothing off it is something your grandfather started.
Adidas at Urban Outfitters
Just Doing It
“Sportswear as casualwear is essentially a preppy invention – the carryover from hearty WASP athletic pursuits which gave us the likes of the sweatshirt, sweatpants and letterman jacket,” says Josh Sims, author of books such as Men of Style. “Sportswear was appreciated for being tough and practical.”
Like military uniform, that other stalwart of menswear, sportswear has long been valued for the rugged characteristics it both possesses in itself and indicates in its wearer. And in sport, like war, competition results in game-changing technological breakthroughs. What we wear on the fields of battle and play has advanced more dramatically than what we wear elsewhere. If sportswear is at the cutting edge of fashion right now, that’s because – in technical terms – it always has been.
The current, unprecedented sportswear boom though can also be seen as a pendulum swing away from the hashtag-menswear sartorialism that followed the economic downturn and increased competition for jobs – coinciding with the 2007 airing of Mad Men. As employment rose again, so did jobs that didn’t impose traditional dress codes and a social media-fuelled emphasis on individual creativity.
Lululemon
Then there’s the swelling fashionability of fitness, which has given us a legitimate excuse to wear sportswear outside the gym beyond comfort and sheer laziness. Instead of spending valuable time fastidiously parting our hair and folding our pocket squares, we’re throwing on hoodies and baseball caps. And if you’re running around town all day, it makes sense to wear shoes designed specifically for marathons.
It’s arguably the luxury sector that’s setting the pace. Streetwear designers like Demna Gvasalia at Balenciaga and Virgil Abloh at Louis Vuitton are running the show(s), elevating previously utilitarian sportswear to the very height of fashion. T-shirts, down jackets and sneakers, which grew by 25%, 15% and 10% respectively, were “standout categories” in the 2017 Bain Luxury Study.
With its links to skateboarding, surfing and other sports, you could argue that streetwear – whatever that loaded term means – essentially is sportswear. “I’m not sure streetwear is the dominant mode, if you’re talking urban, hip-hop-driven streetwear,” contends Sims. “It’s sportswear with graphics, in effect.
“There’s not much original design in streetwear – unlike sportswear, then and now – and what there is tends to be driven by – ta-da – sport.”
The Rise And Rise Of Fashionable Sportswear
Sneakers, sweatshirts and tracksuits are the most hyped products in men’s fashion, but sportswear’s supremacy didn’t happen overnight. Here, we trace the rise of a never-ending trend that began half a century ago.
Football Casuals
As English football teams travelled Europe in the late 70s and early 80s, continental sportswear brands infiltrated these shores, helping their wearers fly under the authorities’ radar while subtly signifying their tribe to those in the know. Tainted by associations with hooliganism, it was a safely masculine arena for playing with fashion and shared values like community, exclusivity and one-upmanship with streetwear.
UK Fresh Hip Hop event, 1986
The Founding Of StĂźssy
Surfer Shawn Stussy initially created graphics for boards before applying them to garms in the mid-Eighties. Incorporating influences from hip-hop, he in turn influenced Hiroshi Fujiwara, who founded Japan’s first streetwear brand Goodenough and opened cult store Nowhere with Undercover’s Jun Takahashi and Nigo, who went on to found Bape; James Jebbia managed the Stüssy New York flagship before opening nearby Supreme in 1994.

Run DMC’s Adidas
In 2017, hip-hop usurped rock as the most consumed type of music in the US, blatantly promoting the buying of sportswear in the process. The genre’s athletic aesthetic stems from the mid-Eighties, when Run DMC swapped their tailored jackets for the trefoiled tracksuits popular on New York streets. At concerts, fans held up their three-striped trainers in solidarity, prompting Adidas to offer the first million-dollar endorsement deal for a hip-hop group.

Lululemon’s Yoga Pants
With the 1998 creation of its Boogie women’s leggings – exhibited in New York’s Museum of Modern Art alongside Levi’s 501 jeans – Lululemon is credited with birthing the athleisure movement. Even though the resolutely technical pants were the polar opposite of for-show fashion sportswear, their practicality, comfort and cost saw them worn outside the yoga studio, and other brands upped their design game in order to compete.
Lululemon
Supreme x Louis Vuitton
The 2017 collaboration between the upstart streetwear brand and the storied French luxury house – which sued Supreme for copyright infringement in 2000 – was when the distinction between the two collapsed. Depending on your point of view, it was also when Supreme jumped the shark or became a megalodon; subsequent investment by private equity firm the Carlyle Group, which valued Supreme at $1bn, suggests the latter.
Supreme x Louis Vuitton
Is Sportswear Here To Stay?
If this were any other fashion trend, then you’d fully expect the pendulum to eventually swing back. And sure, we might yet see a Great Gatsby revival; nor is the suit dead, as it’s periodically pronounced. But there’s reason to suspect that sportswear, forecasted by Global Industry Analysts to grow to $232bn by 2024, is in a different league to other trends. Fitness fads come and go, but fitness itself is only going from strength to strength.
Having entered the dictionary, it would appear that “athleisure”, everybody’s least favourite portmanteau (apart from maybe Brexit), is here to stay. If there is a swing back to formality, then indications are that the tailoring will be inextricably interwoven with sportswear, whether in the form of hi-tech fabrics, design details such as drawstring waists or trainers on our feet. The concept of “high performance” now applies to work as well as play; why would we voluntarily revert to work clothes that have barely moved on in hundreds of years, which require pressing and dry-cleaning then overheat and constrict us in return?
Fundamentally, sportswear is just a hell of a lot less effort (some might say too little), queuing for the latest drop notwithstanding. Behavioural psychology holds that people are more inclined to do things if they’re Easy, Attractive, Social (ie other people are doing it) or Timely; sportswear scores highly on at least three of those four counts. But it’s the first one that is the biggest grounds to hope that sportswear won’t run its course anytime soon. Low-maintenance clothes that stretch and breathe sound and feel like the future.
4 Modern Ways To Wear Sportswear
At Your (Ath)leisure
Ten years ago, the idea that sweatpants could be smart-casual was unthinkable. The same was once true of denim. Now, here we are, happily commuting in a pair of tailored joggers that coordinate nicely with a luxe bomber jacket or sweatshirt. This style is unshowy and highly practical with muted colours and comfortable fabrics more important than branding or statement silhouettes.
Stunting In Streetwear
An ever-shifting mash-up of clashing fashion, streetwear takes inspiration from everywhere: hip-hop culture, sure, but also hiking apparel, skateboarding and haute couture. If there’s a running theme, it’s individuality. And the turning of heads, of course: think bright colours, big logos, clashing patterns and oversized everything.
Throwing It Back
With decades of history in their archives, sportswear designers are at liberty to recycle trends and individual designs, just as heritage menswear firms do. Throwback sportswear like full-look tracksuits takes confidence to wear but it can be surprisingly flattering. And even if you don’t want to go that far, you can nod to the trend with classic sweatshirts or retro sneakers.
Dress It Up
It’s not just white sneakers with your suit. As sportswear got more tailored, and tailoring got more technical, these once-polarised ends of the menswear spectrum have closed and formed a loop. Modern track pants and zip-up tops give you some high-low points of interest when paired with blazers and smart overcoats. Just keep the colours muted.
7 Sportswear Essentials Every Stylish Man Should Have
Sweatshirt
Superseding its slow-drying, woollen predecessors, the cotton crew-neck sweatshirt was pioneered by American underwear manufacturer Russell, and was so popular that it gave birth to an Athletic division. If you’re a quality nerd, look for “loopwheel”, which indicates it was made via an older, slower and therefore more expensive process that produces a more durable garment.
Hoodie
Another American company, Champion, holds the crown for devising the zip-up hooded sweatshirt, as well as a reverse-weave version that was less prone to shrinking length-wise when washed. Champion also patented a flocking technique for printing the fabric with lettering and numbers, which you should avoid if you want maximum versatility.
Polo Shirt
With its collar and buttons, the dad-approved polo shirt straddles the smart-casual touchline between shirt and tee. Again, lettering, numbers and mallet-wielding horseman logos emphasise its sportiness; conversely, a knitted polo is altogether more refined than than the common-or-lawn-tennis cotton variety, not to mention a little louche: Federer, not Djokovic.
Sweatpants
Karl Lagerfeld called them a sign of defeat, but perhaps he’s the one who should slip into something more comfortable and retire to the sofa beaten, given that we’re overrun with joggers. As with many of these athletic staples, they can span the spectrum from sports to luxe, cotton to cashmere. But either way, the fit should be trim but not yoga legging-tight.
Canvas Trainers
There’d be no sneakerheads without Keds and Converse All Stars, both of which launched in 1917. Converse created rubber-soled shoes for general use and tennis before basketball; baller-turned-salesman Chuck Taylor suggested the ankle-protecting patch. They may have been left behind by the march of technology, but they’ve kept step with fashion.
Baseball Cap
Originally made of straw, now more commonly cotton or wool, the baseball cap dates back to 1849 but wasn’t worn by spectating fans until the 1960s; New Era’s 59Fifty style, confusingly designed in 1954, became standard Major League headgear. Like the sweatshirt and hoodie, it’s a billboard for advertising affiliations from Balenciaga to MAGA.
Blazer
The “sports jacket” was the 19th-century equivalent of a hoodie, donned in the boat by rowers at Oxford and Cambridge University. The name “blazer” came from Lady Margaret Boat Club’s red ones; bright colours helped identify rowers first on the water, then on campus. If you want to highlight your own sporting qualifications, maybe get one in jersey.
