anyway I’m gonna info dump about my rotg wip that’s taken me literal years to write and still isn’t even close to being done but its bouncing around my head like a dvd symbol and i need to talk about it rn so here
Jack’s dad dies when Jack is 14 and becomes the Wind
guardian training is actually just watching informational employee training videos about child care
Jack dies on his 18th birthday
Death from puss in boots is here and guides Jack as he’s fresh from drowning and before becoming frost and is stuck in limbo. No other shrek related things come up at all, it’s just him.
nightlight and Jack are not the same person but are at the same time. Idk that part of the wip isn’t that developed yet
Jack started out as aroace bc projection but now has a gf (Tooth) and an ex bf (Shadowbent). He’s still ace tho
jack and pitch continue being mirrors to each other but this time bring in past lives and things get super messy (and traumatic for jack)
Shadowbent is the mvp bc I love him
tooth and Shadowbent become friends despite Jack’s awkwardness around Shadowbent (they all become pretty close, considering everything)
bunny isn’t an alien but still has all the trauma of the books because I like to make my favorite characters suffer
bunny was a father and had a little brother that looked like Jack… just a smidge
north and bunny are married and Jack has no clue. This leads to shenanigans.
Sandy gets trapped in an alternate universe where he and pitch are not only allies but dating. This decision was made before I knew what arcane was but goddamnit that one timebomb French song is their song now
Woody the talking Christmas tree is a demon robot (look it up im scared of that thing)
Bunny gets trapped in weird FNAF scenario where all of the animatronics are of the guardians
Jack’s sister is the sun and the moon doesn’t like her
a giant spider tries to eat Tooth
Nightlight is implied to be a mass murderer
north gets stuck in a time loop and is so tired by the end of it, he takes a nap for a month
Jack loves Frankenstein and hates victor because he gets reminded of MiM
tooth and Jack get stuck in the wizard of oz. Jack is Dorothy and Tooth is Ozma while Baby Tooth is Toto. If I had the capacity to put musical numbers in a fanfic this would be a musical episode
Jack paints the fall leaves pretty colors
bunny and jack get trapped in the lotus hotel and find out that some human guy keeps a collection of spirits in the basement
pitch steals Jack’s intestine
Tooth has an identity crisis and breaks the multiverse
north lowkey adopts Jack
tooth becomes queen of all fairies
Pitch develops a drug that’s like the fear toxin in batman
jack crashes his own funeral. Twice.
bunny gets gifted a paintbrush from Jack after they had a fight
north got the title of a saint while being a bandit. He’s still confused about it
tooth wasn’t supposed to be born
#rise of the guardians#rotg#my fanfic#(?) i guess#Planning this thing was a lot#it’s a big story that would probably need to be spilt up into different books#I started this before quarantine and still don’t have chapter one because i cannot write without skipping around and#hyper focusing on an arc for two years#I also wrote a prequel for Jack and Shadowbent bc I love them#the guardians are in a monster of the week show while pitch is in breaking bad

princely (or something like that)
Summary: “Fate works in funny ways, huh? One minute, you’re taking your sister to a concert for her birthday, next thing you know, you’ve slammed face-first into your SOULmate. Turns out he’s the star of the show. Oh boy.”
3k-Kofi Poll Results Drabble - Mettaton/Reader, SOULmate AU: with hints of Royalty & Romance
read it on ao3 / buy me a coffee
❤ ❤ ❤
Okay, so this didn’t feel like your scene, but then again, this wasn’t your special day.
It was your little sister’s birthday, and as everyone in your family knew, your little sister was head over heels in love with Mettaton. Y’know, that new Monster superstar sweeping the nation in a trail of pink glitter and electro-pop tunes?
He’d never really been your type, music-wise, but it made your sister happy, and whatever made her happy, you could deal with. And if that meant spending over two hundred dollars to pre-order tickets to a show you didn’t even want to go to, then so be it. The moment you’d revealed your surprise gift to her, she’d been jumping around, clinging to you and squealing about how you were the best sibling she’d ever had. Never mind the fact that you were her only sibling, the praise and chance to see the happiness on her face was still worth it.
Waiting four hours in line just to get to the ticket booth, however, was very quickly making it feel like the opposite. Your sister still bounced at your heels, her hand wrapped tightly in yours as she hummed along with the (admittedly) catching tune blaring from the speakers outside the auditorium. Okay, maybe not all their stuff was bad. But from what you’d heard, most of his actual music came from the help of his cousin, a little ghost Monster named…Napster. Or something. So, it wasn’t like the credit could all go to just him, right?
Didn’t mean you didn’t like it. It was bouncy and fun, something you could easily see kids and teens liking. But you were a grown adult, so maybe your music taste was just a little more mature? Or maybe you were just pretentious like that. Maybe a mix of both.
It felt like an eternity before the crowd in front of you shuffled away enough for you to squeeze your way to the front. Still clasping your sister’s hand for reassurance that she wouldn’t be swept away with the waves of people, despite her complaints that she was “a big girl now!” and “didn’t need you babysitting her!” Just a minute ago she’d been clinging to your leg, but now that you were almost inside, she wanted to act like you were a total stranger. Of course. Such came with hanging out with a thirteen-year-old when you were well in your twenties. Such came with being the older sibling, too.
The Monster behind the counter was a skeleton, short and sleepy looking. In fact, he was asleep, audible snores coming from under his decorative uniform cap. The skeleton standing beside the doorway, however, looked to be his complete opposite. Tall, lankly, and happily welcoming everyone inside as he stamped their tickets and wished them a good time at the show. It was still surreal to you, seeing Monsterkind intermingling with humans so casually nowadays. It only felt like weeks ago—when it’d really been a few months—that they’d first surfaced from the peak of Mt. Ebott, the very king himself carrying a small child on his shoulders. “The Ambassador,” they’d been crowned, a mere tot of a child named Frisk, who’d somehow both made it through the entire labyrinth Underground and managed to break the magical barrier keeping everyone locked inside.
You didn’t know what that kid was eating, but you couldn’t help but admire them. They seemed like a real sweetheart.
Heck, they were there too, it seemed, handing out fliers to passerby that advertised the show, while pausing to take pictures here and there. A tall Monstress of a woman stood next to them, a kind smile on her face as she patted their hair and leaned down to pose with them and their guests every time a camera was pointed their way. Must have been their “Guardian” or something. They seemed happy together.
It was your sister who grabbed your attention away from the crew, dragging you past the sleeping skeleton and towards the smiling one. He tipped his hat at you, greeting you in a voice that grated on your ears as he stamped your tickets and pulled back the tiny rope that would allow you inside. Your sister giggled at him when he bowed dramatically at her, and you couldn’t help but smile, too. What a nice bunch.
Then you looked up, and audibly gasped. From the outside this place looked like any other little theater. But inside, it was decked out like a kingdom. Gold and silver trim everywhere. Heck, even the plush chairs some guests were perched on looked like they cost more than a year’s worth of your menial salary. God, this place was gorgeous. You suddenly felt very small, and very unworthy.
Your sister, however, was having the time of her life.
“C’mon!” She squeaked, pulling you with all the strength a preteen could muster. Which wasn’t much. “We’ve gotta get a good seat!”
“Alright, alright…” You mumbled halfheartedly behind her, swiveling around to take in as much of the decoration as possible. Everything was so extravagant. Was this Mettaton guy really that big of a deal? Sure, you’d expected fancy, but this was—
Just as you were craning your head up to admire the large crystalline chandelier hanging from the ceiling, you realized you’d bumped into someone. A small wave of horror washed over you at the shame, and you stumbled backwards, releasing your sister’s hand to plant your palms in front of you in surrender and assurance. “Ohmygod, I’m so sorry, I didn’t even see you—!”
The fogginess of shame around your head cleared as you glanced in your victim’s direction, and all at once you felt like the world around you had gone ice cold.
Mettaton tilted his head with all the dramatics that only a superstar could show off so naturally, propping his chin on his fist as if amused, one hand placed casually over his stomach. “Why, that’s certainly a surprise! I’m usually the first thing people notice when they walk in the room.”
Before you’d been smiling out of nervousness and a kind of horror, but now, all you could do was stare, as the sudden fire at the back of your neck seemed to burst into a supernova. You grasped at the base, hissing in pain. What the heck was that?
That’s when you noticed. Mettaton wasn’t just touching his abdomen, he was clutching it. The glowing heart-shaped object in the glass container bounced and twitched, despite the shocked expression breaking through his otherwise calm demeanor.
Oh my god.
Oh my god.
You stumbled back, grasping your neck, willing the Earth to open beneath you and swallow you whole. But sadly, that was not the case. All you were left with was your sister’s gaping expression, the knowing smile of a world-famous celebrity, and the horrifying realization that you’d probably just made the world’s worst first impression on your own SOULmate.
“I—this—um,” You stuttered gracefully. “H-Hello?”
“Hello,” he purred back. Honest to god purred the words out, flashing you a mouthful of tiny fangs. You tried to ignore the sudden stutter in your chest at the sight of them. And jeez, was he tall, nearly towering over you. That just made things feel even more awkward, like he was a snake cornering a mouse. It felt like he could tell how intimidated you were, because he leaned back just a smidge, his eyes sparkling with amusement. “Now isn’t this an unexpected little surprise, darling. I never thought I’d meet you here.”
It was said like he was talking to a friend, someone he’d met before. But you were total strangers, bound only by this thing little string of fate in the form of printed words across your—skin? Did he even have skin? Or metal? Or whatever that little heart in his stomach was made of? Was that his SOUL? You’d heard that some Monsters had things like that, wearing their hearts literally on their sleeves. The idea of being able to see your words—those terrible, embarrassing words—written across something as precious as someone’s SOUL made you want to faint right then and there.
Instead, you just continued to stumble over your words like the idiot that you were, “Uh, yeah! Same here, uh, I mean—your show—my sister loves your work!”
He posed at that, pridefully, his view slipping from you to narrow in on your younger sibling, who looked both mortified and completely blissed out. “Is that so? I’m always flattered to meet a fan darling.”
Her face was tomato-red, but she still managed to squeak out a weak, high-pitched, “Yep!” while gripping your hand so hard you were pretty sure it was going to leave bruises. Your surprise only seemed to amuse him further, and he turned in only a way a runway model could, motioning over his shoulder with a faint wave.
“Come with me, darlings. After all, this is such a special occasion. How would you two care for an upgrade? The VIP Lounge, hm?”
Did you just hear that right? He was taking you to his VIP Lounge—how—how big of a deal was this to him? You didn’t even know him! But before the words could get out of your mouth (any words at all, really), your sister was dragging you so hard that you were stumbling to keep up with her.
There were so many people staring at you. Jealous fans, confused bystanders, curious guards, from hall to hall to hall. This place was so much bigger on the inside, and all you wanted was to turn and bolt away. But your sister had an iron-grip on your wrist, and this was your SOULmate after all—Mettaton. Was your SOULmate.
My god you were SOULmate’s with Mettaton. You were still in shock about the whole thing. Not to mention the entire ensemble he was wearing. All decked out in black, pink, and gold. It looked hand-made. Specialty. Almost royal. It must have been part of his show, but it was like someone had doused him in a bucket of charm and charisma just like that. You felt like you were being led to the kingdom of a robotic prince, ready to sweep you off your feet. With even more pleased horror you realized that was almost exactly what was happening.
So much so that by the time you finally came to a stop in front of an elegantly decorated door, your mind was reeling. You felt dizzy, sweaty, nervous, fluttery. What sort of people would be inside? Other celebrities? Just you three? Guards, security?
A lizard in a lab-coat, eating a cup of instant ramen?
Okay, that part you didn’t see coming.
Your eyes locked and you watched her yellow-tinted skin very quickly melt into a shade of red that matched the edges of the heels poking out from beneath her coat. She worked to slurp down whatever mouthful of noodles she had, still managing to talk through a mouthful at the same time.
“Ohmygosh, uh, hi! Uh, you musht be new here? I’m Doctor Alphysh—” she stopped and swallowed, setting the cup to her side to shuffle towards you both. “Are you, uh, new VIPs?”
The noise that came from your mouth must have told all when Mettaton’s arm suddenly slipped around your waist. It was either that, or the Cheshire grin on his face when he leaned down to press the corner of his forehead to yours. The entire room suddenly felt so hot, you were pretty sure you were going to pass out.
“Alphys, darling, say hello to my SOULmate. This is—” He blinked, jaw dropping a bit before he shook his head with a chuckle, “I never got your name sweetheart! How very rude of me. I’m sure you know who I am by now. But…who might you be?”
As he spoke, he turned your faces closer, until you were staring directly into that swirling vortex of gold and pink galaxies within his eyes. You forgot your name. You forgot everything. There was just his stare, deep and interested and gorgeous.
That is, until your sister blurted it out for you, the sound of her voice the only thing keeping you grounded. Reality snapped back like a rubber band, and you nodded along, repeating your name several times as if to remind yourself.
“What a lovely name!” He murmured again, tucking a lock of hair behind your ear. “I look forward to hearing it often.”
Were you melting? Was it possible for the human body to reach a temperature that it could just spontaneously melt? It felt like you were melting. Internally, at least.
You couldn’t help but lean forward, wanting to get lost in those galaxies just a little more. But then there came a knock at the edge of the open door, and you jumped so hard that your sister had to catch you when you stumbled out of Mettaton’s arms.
A lion-like Monster leaned against the doorway, his expression soft and meek as he spoke in a gentle tone that made you think back to the Cowardly Lion from “The Wizard of Oz.” Something about him just made you want to hug him. And the dress he wore? Absolutely adorable. “Mettaton, sir, you’re on in ten. Just letting you know.”
The pout on Mettaton’s face was enough to cause the assistant to shrink back, though you saw no malice in it. Instead, he turned that pout on you, moving to tilt your head back up so that you could meet eyes one more time. “I’ll see you at the intermission, darling.”
Then, with all the grace of a superstar mixed with a prince, he dipped down onto a single knee, and pressed his lips to the back of your hand. For a robot, his lips were surprisingly warm, and the contact left you feeling tingly and woozy. You could hear your sister squeaking like a chew-toy in the background as he disappeared into the hallway with another flourish of his star-speckled cape.
Alphys, as she was called, took your hand gently, leading you to sit beside her on the loveseat. The grin she was giving you was absolutely thrilled, like she was even more excited to meet you than Mettaton was. You wondered what kind of a person she was, to make it into the VIP room. A friend? A doctor? Or maybe even just a real lucky fangirl who happened to score the right tickets.
“So!” She chirped. “Ohmygod, this is so exciting! You’re Mettaton’s SOULmate—he’s been looking forward to meeting you for so long, ohmygosh, I can’t believe it. You’re so cute, too, & you seem so nice! I’m, uh—”
She coughed, as if catching herself in the middle of her own rant. “I’m Doctor Alphys. I, uh, made Mettaton.”
Ah, so that explained it. It was obvious she was so nervous, you felt bad for her. Gently shaking the hand she hadn’t realized she was still holding, you introduced yourself. Your sister considered that an appropriate time to pop up over your shoulder and do the same, nearly knocking you over the process. “Ohmygod, you’re Doctor Alphys?! I’ve heard so much about you on MTT’s shows!!! You’re like, the coolest scientist ever!!! I’m Sarah, by the way.”
Without giving the poor Monster a moment to breathe, she replaced your hand with her own, shaking Alphys’s arm so vigorously that you could see her glasses bouncing out of place. Said scientist gently retracted her paw after a moment, fixing her askew accessory with nervousness. “O-Oh! You’ve heard that much about me? Wow, I didn’t know he still talked about me all that much.”
“Of course he does!!” Sarah flipped over the loveseat’s middle cushion, squishing you off to the side to get closer to Alphys. “He’s always going on and on about how amazing and talented you are!! He always refers to you as ‘his dearest companion’ and all that sappy stuff, y’know?”
As she spoke, Sarah struck a pose at the pet-name part, throwing an arm dramatically over her eyes and peering at the doc from the corner of her eye. Alphys’s bright yellow skin flushed a soft red, and she wrung her hands together, obviously flustered. “O-Oh, gosh. That’s so sweet. I’m glad to know he cares. We’re really good friends after all.”
Her gaze flipped between you and your sister, settling mostly on you as she quickly added. “I—I hope we can be good friends, too!! I’m sure my girlfriend will be so excited to meet you. It’ll finally give a chance for Mettaton to stop moping around on her piano, at least.”
Mettaton? Moping?? On a piano??? Now that was something you you wanted to know more about. Your face must have given away your interest, because Alphys quickly back-tracked. “I—I mean, he can be dramatic? I’m sure you know that by now. But really!! He’s the best. He’s sweet, considerate, kind, and—"
“And he’s on right now!!” Sarah shrieked, pointing at the large widescreen settled across from you three. On the screen, you could see your…SOULmate (god, that still felt weird to say) gripping the hand of another dancer. Somewhere, the sound of a tango started.
You felt your sister lean into your shoulder, grinning. You hugged her back, leaning your head on hers affectionately. Happy birthday, kiddo.
Alphys was happy, too, texting away between poses her robotic friend struck on stage. Mettaton looked like he was having the time of his life out there on stage. The little ghost and mermaid-ish Monsters behind him were smiling, too. It seemed like everyone was in a good mood.
Gently, you relaxed back into the cushions of the chair. It was soft. The room was warm. And turns out? His music wasn’t that bad at all.
Maybe you could get used to this, after all.
❤ ❤ ❤
Thank you, everyone, who helped us reach our first Kofi Goal! I hope you guys are as excited for the next poll as I am, & I hope you enjoy reading this little story as much as I enjoyed writing it! The next poll will be up soon enough, so keep an eye out for it !! ~☆ ・゜・ ☆

While Stomas is the caption of the Sea Goblin, every good pirate ship needs a loyal crew. When Stomas first set out into the field of pillaging and plundering, he gathered together a group of various sea creatures to join the party. Though their reasons for joining may vary, most of the crew enjoys the pirating life and loves the thrill of the hunt. With Captain Stomas at the helm, they stalk the oceanic trade routes in search of fat, cargo-heavy prey. When the goods are taken and the opponent is sinking to the ocean floor, the crew is always sure to bust out the good times and celebrate their victory. These are three out of the seven main crew members who follow Captain Stomas and run the dreaded Sea Goblin: Hal the Fachen - The moment Stomas pitched the idea of plundering and looting, Hal saw his destiny. When the captain talked about all the treasure and cargo they would haul in, Hal knew where is place would be. As an ambush predator, it would be perfect. Hal would be the guardian of their precious cargo, the watchman who would protect their loot from thieves and scoundrels. With his camouflaging abilities and endless patience, he would hide himself on the floor of the cargo holds, blending in seamlessly with the boards. Plunderers who slipped aboard to nab their treasure would be surprised and taken out by Hal's venomous spines and nasty iron hook. It was the perfect fit for Hal, and he eagerly took up the role, except there was one issue. Since it was a vicious pirate ship that was run by sea monsters, nobody would ever try to steal from the Sea Goblin (especially since a good chunk of their cargo is just garbage). Who would try to board a submersible ship that was filled with abyssal horrors to nick a few goodies? With that, having someone guard over the cargo was pointless, but that did not stop Hal. He believed that it was this oversight and false sense of safety that would lure in thieves, so he made it is duty to keep watch. If one did nothing to ward off robbers, then eventually one would show up to take advantage of it! So with an unbreakable determination, Hal took up post on the cargo hold floor, where he would forever keep guard of their precious loot. This is a duty that Hal takes quite seriously, as he will lay there motionless for weeks on end. No matter what happens, be it a naval battle, a port raid or a victory celebration, Hal will not move from his spot. Even when sailing on (or in) the open ocean, he will keep watch. He knows that the second he pauses from his task, someone will slink in and rob them blind. The rest of the crew know that it is impossible to convince him otherwise, so they just let him do it. They always make sure to bring down food and drink from their parties, as he won't even leave post for those. Though adamant in his duties, Hal is a pretty nice fellow. He appears to have an endless source of patience and is always happy to lend an ear. When the captain or crew need someone to vent to, they don't talk to a wall, they talk to the floor.
Glesni the Blue Sea Slug - Glesni is the newest arrival to the Sea Goblin crew, having joined them well after they had started their business terrorizing the trade routes. Prior to this, Glesni was just your average single mother, raising several hundred larvae and trying to keep things together. Recently, though, the last of her brood grew up and moved on, leaving her with an empty burrow and nothing to do. With this empty nest, Glesni started to think about what she was doing with her life. After all these years, she had not done anything crazy or adventurous, and though she was not the type for such brash rowdiness, she started to worry that she was missing out. Though it was a silly thought, Glesni decided that she would go out of her comfort zone and finally do something wild. So when the Sea Goblin came to down for trade and barter, Glesni took the plunge and asked if she could join. The life of a pirate sounded crazy and dangerous, which was intimidating to her, but she figured she would satisfy her worry by at least asking. She assumed she would be turned down, as she was quite the timid person, but after an interview, Glesni was welcomed aboard. Now offered a position and too scared to back down, Glesni found herself swept up with the Sea Goblin crew and suddenly made a pirate. She now helps run the ship and fights in their raids, which is rather exciting though a bit intense. As a rather nervous and shy creature, Glesni does not do a lot of fighting. Rather she is the last to leave the Sea Goblin when they are boarding, preferring to stay out of the chaos and chuck jellyfish into the fray. It turns out, lobbing gooey gobs of stingers at the faces of foes is quite the legitimate strategy! Though too scared to initiate close combat, she can defend herself quite well if someone comes at her. At first it may seem pathetic when she lets out a squeak and slaps at an attacker, but then the poor sap has to realize her limbs are coated in stingers and venom. Those who try to harm her often wind up running around the deck shrieking in agony as their face swells and burns. Outside of battle, Glesni remains just as shy and nervous, worried that she will screw something up or the crew will finally realize she isn't cut out to be a pirate. She often hangs around Chrystine (when she is around), Graller (as he is such a nice gentlemen) or goes down below to talk to Hal (he is such a good listener). She does keep her distance around Stomas, mainly because she is paranoid about making a blunder in front of the captain. No doubt he would catch on that she is not pirate material and kick her off (which isn't true, but that is paranoia for ya). She does her best to be a swashbuckling pirate, though she will be the politest one you'll ever meet. Many a foe will get a jellyfish to the face, and then promptly hear an apology for the deliberate act. Chrystine the Snail - Unlike the other crew members of the Sea Goblin, Chrystine has a rather odd arrangement. In career and passion, she is a blacksmith who loves to craft weapons and tools. She is eager to outfit everyone with her latest designs and creations (though they can be a bit strange). She even has her own blacksmith shop set up on the coast, which is how Stomas and the crew found her. Hearing about a sea denizen who made weapons on dry land, they sought her out to outfit themselves with the best gear. When she met them, she was excited to hear about tales of pirating and looting, and was eager to give such a lifestyle a shot. The problem, though, is that forging is not something that can be done on a submersible pirate ship. She would have to choose between being a blacksmith, or being a pirate. In the end, she chose both. Chrystine now has an arrangement with Stomas, where she will spend most of her time as a blacksmith, but will spend a few months out of the year riding aboard the Sea Goblin. On land, she can continue her career and make some new tools for the crew, which they can pick up with her when they swing by. Out on the seas, she can join in on the pirating fun, boarding ships and grabbing loot. As a heavily armored snail and a maker of weapons, she is quite the tough fighter. Very few weapons can injure her, and she often as a bigger weapon than her attacker. After a few months of sailing and fun, they will drop her back off at her shop, and she will take back up the hammer. As a person, she is a rather excitable and eager lady. She loves to chat and is always looking to try out new things, especially when it comes to forging. She is always coming up with new designs and techniques, often incorporating them, without permission, into client's orders. This love of experimentation also leads to some strange looking weapons, as she tries to make the next best tool. Those who don't reel her in while she is on a spree will soon find themselves armed with a hammer-axe-trident-staff, which she claims is a perfectly viable weapon. Though she likes to work with iron and metal, she also likes to eat it as well. There is a chance that when you enter her shop, she will be munching on a failed sword as she works. When with the crew, she is happy and cheery as always. She enjoys spending time with pretty much anyone, though the feeling may not always be mutual. Graller and Glesni are always welcomed company, and that Hexel thing is such a sweetheart! Lophiel always tends to be busy with other things when Chrystine is around, and Styles has given up trying to embarrass or trick her. Its hard to laugh at someone whose optimism is harder to break than a shield. Chrystine also has had some interesting customers come into her shop from time to time. A rather strange group of "knights" who are happy to have a blacksmith that serves their kind. Chrystine is always happy to have another customer, though she makes sure not to mention this new clientele to Stomas.

Ahhhhhhhh happy holidays to you dear @fonsscientae!!! I’m your @rotgsecretsanta! Honestly I have no idea if this is anything like what you wanted but I saw the words post battle and angst in your requests and I just rolled with it! Um I hope you like it??? :3c So I wrote you a kinda angst Jack fic? Let me know what you thought I can always try something else maybe if its not what you wanted??
Fic under the cut~
Jack Frost was having a bad day, which was an generous euphemism for having his ass handed to him spectacularly in this particular fight, he had a long running theory he was the universe’s, or at the very least the man in the moon’s, whipping boy and that the space time continuum was balanced purely on him being on the receiving end of a painful bashing and today seemed to be one of those instances that proved it.
There certainly were better ways to be spending his birthday, his three hundred and twentieth, than fighting back an attack from Pitch Black himself and his new and improved army of Fearlings. Nasty things those Fearlings, the other Guardians had explained to him when they had first reappeared a short while back, after realising that corrupting Sandy’s magic to create Nightmares wasn’t very successful he had reverted back to his old tricks.
“Guys?!” Jack yelled, peering quick over his shoulder for any sign of his friends, the sleigh had been behind him not only a second ago. Each way he looked he only saw grey clouds and dark swarms of the Nightmare King’s monsters, damn it, they had warned him, they had said never get separated when they were up against Fearlings, the creatures were cunning and once they had someone isolated they could confuse and disorientate them. He was too vulnerable, where were the others? Had they gone back down to the ground? “Whoa!” he managed to block a Fearling’s attack just in time, smashing the creature around the face with the crook of his staff. That’s what he got for keeping still in a battle, he thought as he launched himself back into flight. He needed to find the others and regroup, as much as he hated to admit it he was way out of his depth here and he needed the other Guardians fighting at his side.
Where the hell where they? He growled to himself, dodging in and out of swarms, his ice blasting a way through as Fearlings snapped out at him with teeth and claws, a hand just managing to snatch at a handful of his hoody before he kicked away. He needed the others right now, he was being overwhelmed and one wrong move-
He shrieked when two Fearlings charged him from either side, one slamming into his shoulder that he had to grab around its throat to stop it sinking its teeth into his skin and the other at his arm, snatching his staff away, the ancient wood being snapped up into pieces in fast little hands. They knew what they were doing, his mind screamed at him, they must of known he couldn’t fly without his staff and with their job down they let him from go from their clutches.
And he fell.
He only gave a light gasp as he plummeted, the dark cloud of Fearlings quickly farther and farther away.
“Jack!” a multitude of voices screamed, so perhaps he really hadn’t been that far from his friends after all, or at least they had managed to see his descent down. The Wind screamed around him, trying to snatch him up uselessly, but he just couldn’t fly without his powers, his staff. Bunny had lectured him before how risky being so dependant on one conduit could be, saying they needed to train him out of it and they would teach him how to channel his magic without the item, they never found the time for that lesson.
He might die, the thought flashed through his mind, he had fallen from the sky before but this was hundreds of miles up, so far surely even enough to kill an immortal, his first death falling through ice and now his second falling from the sky, he would never get to say goodbye to Jamie, to Sophie or any of his beloved children.
The ground rushed up to meet him and he smashed down with all the force of a meteor, the air violently stolen from his lungs as his eyes rolled back in his skull. After what felt like the worst few minutes of his life he groaned, lucidly coming back to himself and his face pinched in pain. So not instant death then but he had still landed on his back his spine may be broken, he still could be dying. He managed to drag his eyes open and saw what he really didn’t want to see, a Fearling landing down on the edge of the creator he had made, sniffing down along to him and its horrible eyes locked on him in glee. He tried to get up, he tried so hard to move, to fight back, but he could only just lift his hand to push at the monster weakly with all the strength of a newborn baby.
Please not this, please anything but this, he wished the fall had killed him and he despaired the fact he was still alive. “No! Please!” he begged, a useless thing to do in the face of a monster. The Fearling ducked its head and sank its teeth into his wrist as he palmed at its shoulder. It hurt and he yelped out but it was gone as soon as it had come and the creature sat back, its large empty eyes merely watching him as it choked out a noise that sounded somewhat like a giggle, pleased with itself.
Jack’s eyes widened as it simply sat and looked at him, the horror dawning that his worst fears had been correct, it wasn’t going to end him, it could easily tear him apart but it didn’t want that, it wanted him to suffer, to be corrupted by the darkness and turned into one of them. The others hadn’t spared him from the knowledge of how Pitch made his Fearlings, they had warned him the Nightmare King had always preferred corrupted Guardians to dead Guardians. Death would have been the kinder way out.
“Well, well, well” the smooth voice washed over him, Pitch Black himself stepping along side him, hands clasped loosely behind his back and a twisted pleasure in his golden eyes. “Look who we have here, Jack Frost”
“Do I really have to spend my last moments listening to another gloating monologue from you?!” he snarked back, because he wouldn’t let himself show any weakness to his enemy and if he was about to die he was damn sure he was going out with at least a few snappy comebacks.
“Always so feisty, I’ll have that temper put to good use when you’re one of my creatures” Pitch grinned more as Jack’s glare lost some of its power.
“Why don’t you just kill me instead? You really wanna spend the rest of forever with me mocking you?” he tried to be brave, digging deep into centuries of building emotional walls and his ‘I don’t care’ attitude. Please let Pitch just kill him, please let him die with his own mind and not as some horrible monster.
“I told you before, nothing goes together better than cold and dark, besides, when you’re mine you won’t have the frankly annoying personality you do now” he knelt beside the boy, his long thin fingers wrapping around his throat and pulling him up, his lips just touching the Guardian’s.
Jack squirmed in his grip, struggling to tilt his head away “You sure about that? I’m telling you I have centuries practice of being annoying, I’m basically a pro at it that won’t change”
The corner of Pitch’s mouth twitched higher up, splitting his face in a grin as his tongue flicked out to swipe across the boy’s lips “Do you really think you will not change? Mhmm breaking you will be so enjoyable” his fingers clenched harder at his throat, Jack choking and scrabbling at his hand. The pleased grin turned into an aggressive snarl as Pitch slammed Jack back down into the hard earth, his skull hitting painfully against a rock, his other hand catching up the boy’s arm and twisting it around to him showing his own injury. The Fearling’s bite looked rotten, like it had already been festering for weeks with an icy trail of blood down his forearm and across his fingers. It wasn’t bleeding anymore and he didn’t know if that was thanks to his own powers or the way his once pale flesh was black like frostbite. The darkness was already inside him and had already started to infect more, blood vessels around the bite wound standing out in sharp inky relief against his snowy skin.
Jack hacked out a wet gasp “… So what? You gonna try ripping my heart out like you tried with Nightlight?” he panted, shifting his grip on the hand locked around his wind pipe. “I won’t let you!”
“Oh Jaaacccckkkk” Pitch smirked again, his long clawed fingers trailing along the boy’s darkened veins. “That is the quick and kind way and I plan on taking my time with you, taking pleasure in every second of your pain” his nails dug in to his soft skin “This will slowly travel through your body, when it reaches your heart it will begin to infest it, rot it out from the inside while you feel yourself dissolve and I promise you it will not happen quickly, you are going to suffer”
“Y-you sure are a barrel of laughs, huh” the boy gasped out even though his voice wobbled in a way that had nothing to do with the hand locked around his neck, the dread settling thick and fast in his stomach.
Pitch’s eyes gleamed “You’re frightened” Jack coughed out a breath, ready to argue “I know you are, I can taste it” he lifted the boy’s arm to his mouth and his dark tongue flicked out to swipe in the infected wound, giving a pleasured groan. “It’s alright now Jack, give yourself to it, let it have you” his other hand reached down to aid in choking the young Guardian, the boy’s eyes rolling back.
Without warning a shining golden rope wrapped itself around Pitch’s arm and tore him away, viciously throwing him across the ground, Jack wheezed out sharply, his mouth wide open gulping in as much air as he could.
“What?! Sanderson!” Pitch hissed, dragging himself up to stand and glaring at the Guardian of Dreams who landed beside his friend, using another whip of sand to slice at the Fearling nearby and chase it away.
“Sandy” Jack gasped, trying to roll onto his side towards him and Sandy hushed him with a kind hand brushing against his hair and a worried glance over his shoulder, standing in between the Nightmare king and the boy.
“You want to try taking me on alone again?” Pitch mocked, his arms open with an invitation to fight “You can’t protect him he will be mine!” Sandy glared but calmly raised one judgemental eyebrow and pointed behind their enemy, Pitch baulked and turned just in time to see the sleigh come barrelling towards him, North at the helm with his swords drawn. With a yelp Pitch melted down into his shadows, nothing more than a darkness skittering along the ground that the others chased onwards and away.
There was a light thump beside his head as Sandy sat down and warm gentle hands had pulled him to rest his head on his lap, fingers stroking through his frosted hair.
“Sandy” he tried again, he had to tell him, had to warn him. He was a ticking time bomb ready to go off at any moment, the last time he had been hurt in a fight with a particularly nasty Wendigo the others had scraped him up and taken him back home to the North Pole where he had awoken tucked in his bed a few hours later. What if he past out now and the same thing happened, what if they took him home and during the night he woke up not as himself but a vicious monster, a Fearling in the heart of a Guardian’s home wasn’t an idea he could bear thinking about, it wasn’t an option.
With a warm glowing light Sandy’s magic reached out to him, tendrils brushing against his cheek and across his shoulders to soothe him. Jack quietened down in his tender hold, he knew for sure he couldn’t get up if he wanted to, unsure if it was the fall, the loss of his staff or the corruption running through his blood or a combination of all three but he certainly couldn’t get away by choice if he began to change here and now. But right at this moment he was safe and he was loved, Sandy’s small fingers combing his hair and massaging his forehead in a gentleness he hadn’t known since his mother, as selfish as it may have been he didn’t want the moment to end just yet.
“Sandy, thanks for being here” he breathed out, strangely content despite what had happened. The Guardian of Dreams smiled down warmly at him, so much care in his golden eyes.
A jingling of bells announced the sleigh was back, skidding along to a stop and the other three Guardians running towards them. “Jack!” Tooth cried, coming to sit in the crater at his side and her hand cupping his cheek.
“Pitch disappeared, probably back up there” North answered Sandy’s question when the little man had looked at him with a brow raised, the Cossack nodding up at the swirling mass of Fearlings above their heads in the sky.
“Right mate, what hurts the most?” Bunny asked, kneeling on the boy’s other side having already stripped off his bandolier and digging his paws through the pockets to find the assorted items for first aid he always carried with him.
Jack whined “Guys no, you have to leave me”
“We are not leaving” North huffed, disgust in his voice at the very idea, crouching down with the others.
“You don’t understand, I’ve been bitten… I’m corrupted, you need to leave me here, save the kids” he lifted up his arm as his baby blue eyes peered around at them, all of them staring widely back all of a sudden very quiet. He couldn’t bare the idea of them leaving him to turn here alone, but it was the safest thing for them, for the children they still needed to save. He wasn’t going to let his last lucid act be selfish and risk lives just because he didn’t want to be alone at the end, he had been alone at the start of his life might as well finish it the same way.
North swallowed thickly, his eyes shining with sadness “Jack… we are not leaving, you will be fine”
“Don’t lie to him” Bunny spat, his ears pressed flat down.
“I am just trying not to upset him!” the Cossack snarled back.
“Givin’ false promises an’ lyin’ don’t make anyone feel better!”
“Guys please” the boy’s frightened whisper made all of them look back to him, Bunny’s paws holding tight around either side of the bite wound. “Just go”
“Not givin’ up that easily, right we need a plan” Bunny spoke up, looking around the three others determined “We gotta get him back to the Pole an’ I’ve got the most experience with Fearlings, you lot stay and clear up?”
North was nodding along “Take Sandy with you, he’ll help keep things calm, Toothy you will be alright here with me?”
Tooth’s feathered fluffed up as her eyes flicked around the gathering and then turned down to Jack, her vision awash with tears. “I don’t want to leave him”
North’s expression softened “I am not wanting that either but we cannot leave Pitch here, children will die”
The fairy took in a harsh breath, blinking furiously. She wanted to argue and scream to stay with Jack, because the chances were she would never see him again and that he would either die during the transformation or there would be a Fearling staring at her through his eyes when she next looked into them, they had never been able to stop someone falling to Pitch’s corruption before. Yet she was a Guardian and that meant more than just a fancy title and some bed time stories about her, she had sworn to protect the children of the world, they were more important and had to come first, always. No matter their love for each other in the end Guardians had to give up everything for their cause, the children’s lives were more important than Jack’s. “Sweet-Tooth” she murmured, both of her hands cupping the boy’s face.
“Mmm?” his eyes stared up at her, so trusting and full of love.
“We have to go protect the little ones but we love you so much, you must never forget that” she leaned down to touch her forehead to his. “You better be here when we return” she growled like it was the official order of the queen they could very easily forget she was. Jack pressed his lips to her cheek as she pulled away then she was fiddling with her sword for a moment, reaching behind herself before pressing one of her own tail feathers into his hand, cut at the quick. “Take this, it might help, if you need to remember us”
North was shrugging off his coat when the boy glanced up at him following her example, Jack would need their magic of memories and wonder if he had a chance of fighting off the corruption and items belonging to them that held their essence would have to do if they couldn’t be there in person. He bundled the youngest Guardian up and lifted him into Bunny’s arms, his hand pausing to stroke through Jack’s hair. “Good luck my boy
Sand swirled through the air to form a little aeroplane sitting on the ground ready to leave, Sandy already placing himself in the pilot’s seat. Bunny climbing into the back with Jack curled up on his lap, the Pooka paused for a moment looking around. “Wait, where’s his staff?”
“They broke it before I fell” Jack sighed, trying to get comfortable.
“Strewth, North, Tooth, the staffs in pieces somewhere, if ya can track it down bring it back” Bunny called back to the pair on the ground, who nodded before going off to fight back Pitch’s attack. The plane took off, keeping low to avoid the Fearlings up ahead until they were clear of them and flying off into the night sky, the moon glowing brightly above them.
Jack would normally be embarrassed to admit how comfortable he was, but the coat was worn soft and warm as well as smelling like North, like his home in the Pole and Bunny’s arms were wrapped firmly around him, one paw at the back of his neck and stroking.
The Pooka’s voice rumbled in his chest as he spoke, the boy’s ear pressed over his warm fur. “So how was Jamie an’ Sophie today?”
Jack was a little perplexed “… They’re fine”
“Yeah? What they learnin’ in school?”
“Do you really wanna know about that right now?” he hissed out, his fingers clutching at Tooth’s feather anxiously.
“We need you to stay as calm as possible, bein’ scared will only make it worse so yes I wanna know, what did they learn in school?” Bunny spoke gently, his paw tucking the coat up around his head and cradling him to his chest.
Jack blinked in understanding, he was trying to distract his mind, trying to keep him calm so he wouldn’t be filled with fear that would only speed up the corruption. “Am I gonna turn into a Fearling?” he demanded.
Bunny sighed “You might, I can’t make any promises either way”
“I thought you were meant to be the Guardian of hope” the boy bit out harshly.
“I’m the Guardian of hope not of false hope, I know best of all it ain’t right to be promisin’ things that might be impossible, it’s just cruel” Bunny spoke sternly and after Jack whined a sob he pulled back so he could see down into his eyes, a paw curled under his jaw tilting him to look up. “Now mate, that don’t mean I ain’t gonna fight with everythin’ that I am fer ya, we’re gonna do our very best Sandy and me, an’ North an’ Tooth down there fightin’ fer ya just as much and I will promise you one thing. No matter what happens we will always love you, if ya live we will love you an’ spend the rest of our lives makin’ sure every day you know it but if ya turn we will still love you, if you die we will love you, if ya turn and end up hurtin’ someone we will love you, we will always love you an’ nothin’ in the world will ever change that”
Jack couldn’t help the sobs that slipped out as he hid his face down into Bunny’s ruff and then groaned in despair as he felt the corruption claw further up, past his elbow now heading for his shoulder. “Hurts” he cursed.
“I know yer scared but ya gotta try an’ hold on as long as you can” Bunny’s paw never stopped stroking at the back of his head, the constant motion soothing and grounding. “Now Jackie, what did the kids learn in school?”
The younger Guardian sucked in a harsh breath, letting the words come quietly and shaky from his lips, recounting everything his two favourite children had told him about that afternoon when he had visited them, spending a few hours playing with them and listening to all their thoughts and opinions on the world around them. Bunny was right, it did help a little and before he knew it they were landing down at the North Pole, pulling in by the reindeer’s stables. The Pooka leaping out of the plane that dissolved down back into sand and rushing through with the boy in his arms, Sandy at their side. Jack pulled North’s coat further over his head as they went, not wanting to see the elves and yetis staring at him as they continued through the factory, through hallways and up stairs to a place he had never been to before, Sandy throwing open the door for them.
The air was still and warm here, heavy with dust that spoke of how long it had been since someone had last been here, pressed against Bunny’s chest under the coat Jack couldn’t see much around him but he could look up and see a high domed roof before he was being laid down in an old small bed, with North’s coat against his back beneath him and Tooth’s feather under his head across the pillow. There was a loud groan of metal and wood before the ceiling seemed to crack straight along the centre of the dome and pull apart, revealing the calm night sky outside.
“This is the old observatory, Nightlight used to come up here a lot, he said he felt safer being closer to the moon” Bunny answered his unasked questions, shaking the bedsheets free of dust. Sandy returned to their side, having gone to flip the switch to open the roof up, his little fingers tugging at Jack’s hoody. “Good idea” the Pooka nodded. “Jack, we’re gonna get this off you” he explained as he helped the boy out of the clothing who didn’t argue. “Think the more contact with the light you have the better”
Jack nodded with a sigh as he settled back down in the bed, blinking as the moonlight poured in over him, laying here he could see the Moon, so big and close, the whole galaxy seemingly within his reach. He glanced over down his to his wrist and screamed, his entire hand grey and a pattern not unlike his frost from his black blood vessels, the corruption had spread up past his shoulder, trailing along his collar bone and he imagined to his neck. “Bunny! Sandy! Help, oh no, oh please no”
“Jack, don’t look at it!” Bunny growled out, his paw curling around the boy’s jaw and turning his face away, blocking his view. The space around them glowed with a soothing warmth, Sandy’s magic swirling around them, reaching out to stroke at his face trying to calm him but he could see the fear in Bunny’s eyes, the Pooka never had been very good at keeping calm himself, and the tightness in Sandy’s brow, they were both terrified for him. He cried out and shook in their hands, darkness spidering along through his skin along aiming downwards towards his heart. Bunny shredded a strip of cloth from the old bed sheets, holding it in his paws as he caught Jack’s eyes. “Jackie you gotta trust us, alright? Now I’m gonna put this over your eyes, just like that” he explained, securing it at the back of his head, completely taking away all sight.
“Why? I can’t see the moon anymore” the boy worried, Sandy sitting himself beside his pillow, his magic trailing all over him.
“To keep you focused, besides the light will do just touchin’ yer skin, don’t need to see it” the boy nodded stiffly, biting at his lower lip anxiously. “Right, we’re gonna just relax and try some breathin’ exercises”
“You make it sound like I’m having a baby” Jack couldn’t help but give a weak chuckle.
“If it makes it better then yes I’m willin’ to be yer midwife, dress an’ all” Bunny grinned back, gently trying to probe with his magic at the boy, trying to find his centre and when Jack gave another laugh at the idea he could see it in his mind eye, his joy still trying to shine brightly despite the on coming corruption, finding it with his own centre and wrapped his hope around it, giving him strength. Sandy’s magic followed him in, like wandering through a dark forest to find their lights, building the power.
Jack listened as Bunny lead him through the breathing exercises, his hand clasped firmly between two warm paws while Sandy held his other. “Feels weird” he sighed.
“Good or bad weird?”
“I dunno just really odd, its like I can feel you both in me, like in my soul or something” Jack yawned out, feeling weary. He felt so horrendously weak and on display to them without his eyesight, the cloth sitting roughly across his face and he could only guess at how bad the corruption looked now, he didn’t want to know because he knew the answer wasn’t anything good.
“That’s us there protectin’ yer centre, yer joy, it’s alright we got you” Bunny soothed, one paw moving to caress his face.
He tried to relax in their hold but he could feel it, lurking inside the corruption was there, slinking ever on, ever deeper and it hurt, the pain only getting stronger. He occasionally let out a whimper or moan, their hands tending to him, stroking his face or hair as it cut in more, like rotten vines growing through his body.
Something was whispering to him from inside his own mind, something awful.
The sand shifted in the air, Sandy was saying something he couldn’t see and Bunny hissed out an frustrated “I know”
The youngest Guardian reached out with his own fading magic, the connection the others had started was a two way path and he could feel both of them and an idea of what they were feeling, they were terrified. Bunny’s hope was stubborn, an utter and complete refusal to give up despite what he could tell was happening, Sandy more openly upset, more realistic to the reality of what was happening.
They both knew he wouldn’t make it.
The whispering grew louder as it began to deafen out other thoughts, pushing harder and harder at him to give in, to let it have him.
“Guys?” he murmured after a long while, his voice tight and worn as his knuckles clenched white in their hands.
“Yeah?”
“I don’t want to be a Fearling” he said simply.
“Strewth Jack, we know, we’re tryin!” the Pooka sounded a little hysterical, Sandy’s thumb rubbing along his cheek in the lightest of motions to prove to him he was still trying, still here with him.
“I know… but if … if you can’t stop it will you kill me? Please?” the thing in his mind laughed at him as he spoke.
“Jack…” he thought he could hear tears in the Guardian of hope’s voice, Sandy’s little hands clutching harder at him, his sand holding him.
“Please, Pitch will use me to kill you, to kill Jamie and Sophie, I wanna die by my own terms with my own mind knowing who I am” he whined, he had spent so long trying to find out who he was, the idea of dying as a brainless creature doing things he had sworn against was the worst thing he could imagine. “Please don’t let it take that away from me, don’t let it take my love for you guys”
They both were definitely crying now.
Jack only could lay back and try to ignore the feeling of something so very wrong taking over his body. It seemed a few hours may have gone past, perhaps really they hadn’t and he couldn’t just tell anymore but he seized up, his head pressed hard against the pillows as his back arched in pain and he began to scream. His body thrashing in spasming throes while they held him down, the burning wrongness deep somewhere in his chest, in his heart.
After a horrendously long time he settled quietly, his breathing hard and pained, the cloth across his eyes soaked with tears. “… what’s wrong with my eyes?” he asked in a small voice.
“… Jackie?” the reply came tiredly, worn out from the heart ache.
“Why can’t I see?” he asked, trying to shift out of their grasp to feel at his face but they wouldn’t let him.
“Don’t ya remember?”
“…No?” had he forgotten something? He felt there was a reason he couldn’t see but what was it? Wasn’t there a magic feather from Tooth that was supposed to help him remember things? And who was Tooth? The person who held his hand with fluffy paws cursed under their breath, a frantic shifting of air and magic from the other side. “It really hurts…” he whined.
“… Do ya remember us?”
He gave a jerked nod in response “Of course I do, you’re important to me” he spoke and the others with him seemed a soothed by it “… why are you important?” he then cried out in pain again, gasping out but not seeming to be able to get enough air.
“Shhh, it’s alright, we’re here” hands stroked at his face, it didn’t help much.
His cries cut off as he convulsed, then again and again.
It hurt so much, he could feel his mind disintegrating piece by piece, like someone walking around a house and blowing out one candle at a time, soon there would only be darkness left.
“Please!” he cried, tears soaking through the cloth to streak along his face “Help me”
“Jack, I’m so sorry, we can’t …. “ the voice was cut off as the air swirled curiously around them “Sandy there’s gotta be somethin’ else! …. I know yer right I just…. I know …. Jackie? We’ll help… yer just gonna go to sleep now, yeah? That’s it just relax we got you, we love you”
He hummed appreciatively, to be loved was a good happy thing, something he very much enjoyed. He tried to relax as he was told as the smaller one laid a hand over his forehead, magic all around him as he drifted of to sleep.
When his eyes next fluttered open he was completely confused.
The early dawn came dazzlingly through the large bedroom window, his bedroom window, in his own bed in the Pole. That was a weird dream, he thought sleepily and letting his head rest back into the pillow when he noticed Tooth curled up with her arms locked around his chest.
What?
He struggled upwards, knocking not only her arms but others off as well, bleary eyed he peered around him at the pile of sleeping Guardians. Either it was Christmas again with North’s killer bourbon eggnog or something just plain odd had happened. Tooth yawned at his side, her small fist moving to rub at her eyes, she blinked and saw he was awake.
“Jack!” she squealed launching herself at him and toppling them into the sleeping pile, multiple groans heard as they woke up. “It’s wonderful to see you! I can’t believe it you’re here and you’re you! I’m so happy!”
“Um thanks? … What happened?” Jack mumbled, the lot of them shifting around him.
“Jack!” Bunny’s arms wrapped around him and he was suddenly pinned against his fluffy chest, Sandy and North both crowding on either side and hands all over him.
“Guys!” he half laughed and shrieked “What’s the deal… wait!” the memories hit him like a ton of brick and he struggled to yank his arm free of Sandy’s cuddle, pulling down his sleeve to see his wrist scarred over, the spider web of what had been darkness now shining in the light with his ice. So it was true, that wasn’t a dream. “I was corrupted!” he breathed, his fingers touching the scar in wonder.
“Yes but now you are all better!” North beamed, his large hand enthusiastically rubbing at the boy’s shoulder.
“How?” he bit out, not quite believing it was possible himself.
Tooth took a hold of his hand, her large violet eyes gazing at him carefully “We really don’t know, you were nearly a Fearling and then it just stopped? Maybe it was because North and I arrived and you had all of our magic together? Maybe the Man in the Moon did something? Whatever it was we’re just so relieved you’re safe”
Jack couldn’t help but return the smile she gave him, his eyes moving to where Bunny and Sandy sat side by side giving him equally warm looks full of love and he felt his cheeks frosting over slightly. He remembered begging them for death and that was something they surely had to deal with later, if only to make sure the pair of them were alright if nothing else but that could wait for now his stomach was rumbling.
“Wow, wild night huh guys? Lets not do that again any time soon” he slid out from their grasp, landing his feet on the floor where he discovered his staff in one whole piece leaning beside the headboard where he always kept it and snagged it over his shoulder, casual as anything. How on earth they had found the pieces and restored it was another question but again one for another time.
“So who wants pancakes? I’m making, dancing with nearly becoming a creature of darkness really stirs up a guys appetite” he grinned back at his family, who were worth everything in the world to him and he swore to himself he would never stop fighting for them. Not even Pitch Black would stop him no matter how hard he might try.

I was tagged in this meme by the awesomely rad @francisthegreat whom I’m lucky to have as my friend :) Also I’m sorry this is so late! I didn’t see you tag me until like yesterday, I had exams this week haha. This was very hard to make because I have a LOT of feelings.
Ten characters from ten fandoms:
This list is going in ascending order, meaning my very favorite faves will be last on the list.
10. Bill Cipher (Gravity Falls) First of all on this list is this asshole, gosh I have no idea why but there was a period of time where I absolutely loved Gravity Falls and I shipped with a human form with Dipper mostly because of the amazing art and some pretty complex fics written for the ship. It was a wild ride and honestly thinking about this phase of my life always makes me feel weird, like I liked him purely because I liked reading shippy fics starring him.
9. Pearl (Steven Universe) This one is kinda weird too? Idk man I absolutely love Pearl’s design and the way her character is written. I’m not in loop with the SU fandom because ugh it’s not a happy place to be but I absolutely love browsing art of her. I love how she’s such a broken character for a kids show! I used to read SU meta and they’d go on and on about how she’s a shit character, an asshole towards Amethyst and toxic. But tbh, I feel like she’s just a complex character that made bad choices at times, she’s trying to get better, she’s trying to cope with the loss of Rose someone she probably loved in more ways than one and how she felt Rose chose Greg over her, and now she’s gone. I mean, she just can’t let go and I think that’s very human.
8. Pitch Black (Rise of the Guardians) Alright but this fandom was the first one I’d ever been in once I started out in tumblr. It was very cool and leaves bittersweet memories tbh, I absolutely adored the art and fics this fandom churned out, I used to ship Pitch and Jack Frost. The thing about Pitch is the fact that the fandom practically merged the movie with the lore from the original Guardians of Childhood the movie is based on. In the book, Pitch has such a tragic backstory, his name was Kozmotis Pitchinier and he was the best general of the Golden Army. After capturing all fearlings, he was designated to guard the prison of their imprisonment , he was haunted by their whispers and pleading and his only solace was his daughter, of whom he kept a photograph of in a locket. But one day, sensing his weakness, the prisoners imitated her voice and hypnotized Kozmotis to believe she was being held inside with them. Frantic, he opened the doors to release her, but was instead possessed by ten thousand Fearlings.
Sorry for the long summary but I just want people to know more abt his backstory haha.
7. Loki (MCU) I didn’t really know about Loki until I watched Thor: The Dark World in the cinema and I was instantly in love despite this movie being the absolutely worst of all the MCU movies, which looking back I’d have to agree. Loki is yet another tragic character whom I’m sure everyone already knows about. I think Loki is a vulnerable character who tries to be good, wants to be good but he just can’t, or he tries and other people just won’t accept him. He’s a frost giant and those people are considered monsters, how can he not be bitter that he’s the very thing ha’s been indoctrinated to hate and fear. He is a very complex character that the MCU practically does not do enough justice mostly because he’s portrayed as a villain in the movies. But I wouldn’t consider him a villain, more like an antihero, nobody trusts him and he doesn’t think anybody can love him either. I’ve only read a bit of his comics and I gotta say Loki deserves so much more than what he gets.
6. Dr Strange (MCU) (I’m breaking the one character per fandom rule idc) I know a shit ton of people absolutely HATE Dr Strange, and for a variety of reasons too. They hate him because Benedict Cumberbatch plays him and hating on BC is practically the new edgy on tumblr. People think Dr Strange should have been played by an american asian and all that yada plus the ancient one being whitewashed. While I agree some aspects of Dr Strange is problematic, I think people need to give it more credit, at least watch it for the cool effects that the stupidly huge amount of people worked on. Also as an asian, I can guarantee you most people outside of America doesn’t give two shits about these controversies and movies should be a source of pleasure instead of thinking about all the negative shit only. Dr Strange deserves so much more, he’s an interesting and while he does share some qualities with Tony Stark, he’s his own character with his own issues. Plus his comics are very fun to read, come on, magic in the Marvel is such an awesome concept. Fuck you haters, I just wanna have a good time with the magic man.
5. Sherlcok Holmes (BBC Sherlock) This is also one of my earliest fandoms on tumblr. Sherlock season 4 absolutely ruined it with all the queer baiting and the shitty plot. But Sherlock had always left bittersweet memories for me too. Mostly because of the absolutely amazing and complex fics written for it, I will never understand how fic authors do it but Sherlock fics were amazing and I would gladly choose these fics over canon any time.
4. Asuka Langley Soryuu (Neon Genesis Evangelion) I have so many feelings about this bitch right here, honestly one of the most relate-able characters for me. Asuka is a very human character, she’s very proud and has emotional issues. She was considered the best of the best and was trained to be an Eva pilot since she was four because she’s a child genius. However she has a tragic backstory, her mother underwent some tests and became insane, believing that Asuka's doll was her daughter and refusing to acknowledge the real Asuka, referring to her as "that girl over there." She eventually commits suicide by hanging herself; Asuka found her body when she went to tell her the good news that she had been chosen to become an Eva pilot. She couldn’t let go that Shinji the main character was starting to become a better pilot than her despite training for months only. She suppresses a lot of her emotions and had unhealthy ways of coping. I just want her to be happy.
3. Edward Elric (Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood) Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood is what I would consider the holy grail of anime tbh. Edward is just about the most selfless person out there in the fictional world of anime. I love the fact that Ed and Al started their journey off with mildly selfish reasons that is to return their body parts whom they lost to in a deal with Truth to bring back their mom which ultimately failed. In the end, Edward is willing to lose his alchemy, the very things that defines him, that started this whole mess, that is the source of his joy and misery for the sake of gaining his brother’s body back instead of selfishly using the Philosopher’s stone that’s made using human souls. I just want this shorty to be happy and I’m glad he is with that satisfying end.
2. Hitsugaya Toshiro (Bleach) The reason this guy is ranked so high in my list is mostly because, he’s been there for me since I was a smol kid, I’ve had a crush on him ever since I was 10 and I could never let go. He’s the one fictional character whom I still fallback to every time things stagnant, I love reading fics about him, he’s just so cool! He’s a child genius with a sword that can shoot ice dragons. Plus he’s always written in such a complex way in fics, Kubo missed his fucking chance by not expanding more about his character in the manga, but clearly Kubo is incompetent when it comes to plot so whatever I guess.
1. Kylo Ren (Star Wars) The Star Wars fandom or specifically the Kylux subfandom is probably the happiest plave I’ve ever been in since forever. It’s the first time I’ve ever talked to anyone at all online, I only lurked around in other fandoms but Star Wars made me able to brave the fandom and talk to people in it, I’ve met so many amazing people and read amazing fics in it, it’s mostly due to the KRB discord chat that I’m still going strong with this fandom. I absolutely love Kylo Ren and can he please crush me between his thighs. The thing that attracted me to him besides his unconventionally attractive appearance is his emotional vulnerability. Kylo has been neglected by Leia and Han as a kid and sent away to jedi school with Luke, he’s been manipulated by Snoke as a kid and Leia and Han just don’t think they can take care of him properly, they’re afraid of him and always too busy with their work, Kylo wasn’t planned, the way their relationship worked just wasn’t ideal for child rearing, Kylo was left alone with Luke, unable to understand why his parents don’t want him anymore, how he was too emotional for the jedi way. While what Kylo did was not justifiable with all that murdering, it’s not a stretch to say that he was very mush a victim of circumstances too. I related to Kylo a lot as I’d been sort of neglected as a child too, both my parents were always busy with work and I only saw them during mealtimes and before bed.
Sorry for the long post ya’ll! I have so many emotions about fictional characters haha.
I’ll be tagging @magicandmalice , @omega-hux, @tezzypants, @darktenshi17, @comraderevelin, @kylocatastrophe, @dargason-under-the-fantasia, @oblioknowlton, @evilblubber, @plasticpill and @glass-oceans that is if ya’ll want to, I had fun and went super overboard.

“Then what keeps you from going back into the Deep?” she asked. “Even if you know it hurt you and it was using you... what if you still sometimes get tempted? If everything outside gets too overwhelming and too weird, what keeps you from shoving yourself back?”
“A lot of work, mostly,” Eli replied. “Rosemara told me once: you’ve got to give yourself small things to do, each day. Say, ‘I can’t go back until I watch this TV show’ or ‘I can’t leave until I clean up the dishes’. A party to get to tomorrow or a video game releasing next week. Little things.”
“That’s it?” Harper couldn’t keep the disbelief out of her voice. “The secret to stopping the Fae is video games?”
“Basically, yes.” Eli shrugged. “Trite as it sounds, you have to find all the little things in life that give you joy and surprise and hold onto them.” He smiled. “The Deep can’t surprise you, once you get used to it. That’s the real world’s big advantage over it. You don’t have to love being human or living life--it’s enough to just be bored and curious about what happens next. That’ll keep you around.”
GUESS WHO REACHED 50,000 WORDS FOR NANOWRIMO FOR THE FIRST TIME?! To celebrate, I decided to take a break from writing and do a self-indulgent drawing of the main character of my Nanowrimo project. Say hi to Harper! And now, here’s a WIP pitch:
RE:grow is a story loosely about growing up, and also about fairies. It follows 17-year-old Harper Bell, who stumbled into the mystical world of the Deep and--with the help of a fairy guardian--became a magical heroine five years ago. But after an argument leads to her being kicked out, she has to pull together the pieces of her old life while fending off threats from the other “gifted” children and monsters. Things get stranger still when she learns that her own dad is a retired magical hero, and part of a mysterious underground community of anti-fairy exterminators. As the pressure builds up against her, she has to choose between revenge or loyalty.
How do you become an adult when you only know how to be a gifted child?

Fans Are In Love With Ascendance of a Bookworm (and Lutz) After Episode 20
Welcome back to the weekly recap of Ascendance of a Bookworm! This week, we are covering Episode 20 "The Path Ahead of Lutz." For anyone just joining in, if you want to catch up on the previous recaps you can find them here:
Episode 15
Episode 16
Episode 17
Episode 18
Episode 19
In the previous episode, we started getting hints of some of the plot threads connecting back to each other, as during a festival Main accidentally discovered that her mana could cause tau fruit to transform into trombre seeds — high-quality but dangerous to obtain material for her paper.
The episode ended with Main’s health taking a serious downturn after the festival and the Head Priest’s punishment leaving her secluded in a barren room for a day. Let’s see if she recovers and whether she can use her newfound knowledge in this week’s episode.
Ever since Lutz started seriously considering becoming an apprentice merchant, his family has been vehemently against it, and that comes to a head in this episode as Lutz runs away from home after an argument with his parents.
While Main is stuck at home with a fever for several days, Lutz’s family starts going to his workplace and yelling from the street for him to come home and even barges into the store to physically remove him. Once Main recovers and can talk to Benno, he reveals that the source of the inciting argument was that he was going to take Lutz on a trip to another town, but that it would require Lutz’s parents permission.
Lutz reveals that he has been effectively a live-in apprentice for the past days, which means that he lives in the building where he works and is essentially working for free as his wages go toward food and board. When Main asks Benno if there is anything he can do, he says he is considering adopting Lutz, but that would also require his parents’ permission.
When Main asks the Head Priest, he offers a third option. If Lutz is deemed abandoned, the orphanage can take him and the director becomes his guardian, meaning that Main can sign his adoption papers instead. However, the Priest wants to summon Lutz’s parents to get their side of the story before fully deciding which course of action is the best.
The second half of the episode is almost entirely the meeting between Lutz and everyone trying to decide what path he is going to walk. The discussion turns into more of an ideological argument, as Benno tries to convince Lutz’s parents that adopting Lutz would be good for both the company and Lutz himself, as he wants to make him his successor.
Lutz’s parents are against adoption on the grounds that they raised the boy and Benno likely wouldn’t make a good parent. They aren’t against the idea of successorship, but they insist that if Lutz forges his own path against their wishes that he has to see it through, no matter the hardships.
In the end, the Head Priest decides that he cannot move forward with the adoption, and Benno writes up a dapla contract so Lutz will officially gain control of the company later. When Lutz’s family reunites outside, his mother wonders why Main was even at the cathedral, and Benno says to keep it a secret. Previously, we learned that the church is not universally beloved downtown, so Main has been keeping her apprenticeship a secret from everyone.
The episode ends with Main breaking down in tears of joy over Lutz’s family not being torn apart as she had feared. When the Priest gives her an embroidered cloth to wipe her face, she realizes that his name is Ferdinand.
With that, let’s move into what the audience thought about this episode:

Ascendance of a Bookworm, Format: Isekai - Plot: Main character dies in her world and in another world due to a magical curse, a girl dies but the Main character takes the girl's place but suffers from the same affliction but all she wanted to do was read.

Ascendance of a Bookworm It is cute but deep at the same time. Word building is subtle but very detailed when you analyze it. It's an isekai but not necessarily the mainstream ones where one goes to adventure and kills monsters.
