The Great Gatsby Placement HCs🍾
I feel like this story is one of the more interesting ones to flip dynamic archetypes, not only because we should generally re-explore gender/sexuality during the turn of the 20th century, but also because this book specifically toys with ways to have social/interpersonal leverage. I really struggled to cover that here adequately (I’m kind of a basic bitch lol), but I’d love to see an AU where conceptions like “masculine/leader/protector alpha” changes entirely
Daisy: omega.
An annoyingly easy placement for me. I feel like for her to be driven to have an affair with Nick, she'd need to be one, if that makes sense? She needs that feeling of being equal and being in a traditional marriage of "man x omega woman" or the epitome of “object of desire” Really would emphasize that I think.
Beta works too? You’re not going to see me actively fight that
Nick: any dynamic
I and I think most others would see him as a beta. He’s an observer, he finds it natural to fall into the background of whatever bullshit his life is surrounded by, he often finds himself a mediator between other parties, I lowkey kind of kin him, etc.
I’d also take Nick as an alpha who refuses to step into the spotlight, which adds an interesting nuance for him admiring Gatsby ("do I love him or wanna be him?" type beat).
And I’m down to argue to defend omega Nick too, though I’ll be honest, I only really considered it because Nick was played by Tobey Maguire in the movie, haha.
Jordan: beta or alpha
Really, I just want to emphasize she and Nick are foils.
Honestly, I'm kind of in love with Jordan being whatever dynamic Gatsby initially presents himself as, because there's meant to be this kind of hollow relationship thing happening between Jordan and Nick and ✨fucked up implications in dynamic parallels✨ are tasty (listen, Nick was already on thin ice considering how this motherfucker specifically liked how androgynous Jordan was; please let me do this shawty)
I’ll also say omega could be fun because we’d be working with an omega athlete
Gatsby: literally anything works
I don't know how many times I've seen transmasc Gatsby since I started looking up fanworks, but what I do know is that the idea is stuck in my mind forever. That is to say, it almost feels imperative for Gatsby's narrative to hide his dynamic or to excessively flaunt it because it was the one thing he could rely on in his youth.
I personally find myself the most in love with beta Gatsby, masking as anything he finds fun for that day, using the most expensive perfumes and tech.
Alpha Gatsby who follows his dream partially because “I’m no real alpha if I can’t make it big” or “I’m an alpha so I’m destined for greatness”.
I love Omega Gatsby specifically because it means we’re now playing with the classic “omega-mask as-not omega” trope. Like are you fucking KIDDING me?!?!?!?!? TEXTBOOK ANGST for this genre HOLY SHIT.
Point is: any dynamic for Jay is stellar, including pan/inter/fluiddynamic, because he can use it as yet another way to masquerade (or as deluded inspiration for his idealism, haha)
Tom: alpha, but consider…
Tom’s old money, the traditional foil for the new-wave moonshiner Jay. So alpha is just kind of a no-brainer, especially if we’re playing with Jay being this aspiring alpha/putting into question what makes an alpha.
But. But but but PLEASE just imagine a Tom who’s ALSO insecure like Gatsby in his second gender. Beta or omega Tom is insane to me, and this is really where I wish I had the brains for an non-traditionalish AU, because I want to see Tom/Daisy’s personalities/interactions to be totally flipped from the “ideal” alpha man/omega woman couple.

it’s 5am i have not slept i have a hot take
i see antis argue sometimes that you CAN portray “problematic” things in fiction, as long as you show they’re bad/don’t romanticize them.
first of all that’s super subjective. second of all.
have you ever read major character death. have you ever read hurt no comfort. have you ever read, like, mindbreak.
i’ve never seen anyone complain about a fic that is graphic torture and nothing else, or like, a mental health ventfic with a dark ending. and i think about that quite often, the different standard we have for sex.
yknow? it applies in other contexts too. have you ever noticed that when people argue fanfiction is a lesser form of writing or otherwise bad, they always bring up sex? “the odyssey vs your 200k destiel omegaverse mpreg” “the great gatsby vs your slowburn stucky hs au where the climax is a full chapter of smut”
it’s a trend i noticed. it exists outside of fanfic too! original fiction circles have this whole thing about not including sex scenes bc The Plot, or dismissing erotica as a less serious, or maybe just lesser, form of literature?
and maybe, just maybe, that’s bad. to some degree i think we put sex on too high of a pedestal. it’s just a thing people do. and, i dunno, i write a lot of angst and whump and what-have-you. i like exploring trauma and recovery, it’s literally a thread somewhere in 90% of what i write. maybe all of it, in some small capacity. i don’t have encyclopedic knowledge of my own work.
so i’m not directly affected by this, but i do think it’s hypocritical, and i do think it’s strange to impose limits. you can create, but only within these boundaries, defined arbitrarily by me. like, okay jan. sure.

my adhd loves very little more than running wild with association games, and the universe gave me omegaverse -> snail reproduction -> hamilton -> broadway great gatsby
which, of course, is synonymous with jeremy jordan. so now, entirely against my own will, i've assigned abo statuses to every damn jeremy jordan character i know
god help me 🙃

Rules: 10 (non-ancient) books for people to get to know you better, or that you just really like.
Tagged by @wintersmitth and @bluesundaycake, thank you both for thinking of me!!! I definitely saw a few books on both your lists I'll be adding to my to-read goals for this year :)
This was a bit of a challenge as I was a very avid reader of novels as a teenager, then just…stopped for about a decade. I still read, but I transitioned over to graphic novels and Japanese manga, developed a massive fanfic addiction…and then read 77 books in 2022 LOL. But these are the books that have left a mark on me over the years.
Interview with the Vampire by Anne Rice - I first read this in 2003 when I was far too young to be reading it but well…what can you do hah. This novel single handedly jump started not only my vampire obsession, but my obsession with the supernatural genre and supernatural romance in general. I am pretty sure I have a monsterfucker fixation because of Anne Rice ahahaha. I’ve reread this novel many times over the years so it is very near and dear to my heart.
The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald - Teenage me and adult me LOVED the hell out of this book. The imagery, the loneliness, the prose, I could read Gatsby over and over again and fall in love with some new piece of it. When the copyright expired last year, I went ham on reading as many spinoff novels as I could. I still have one in my queue of things to read actually.
A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess - My first foray into psychological horror. Goodness I absolutely devoured this book, and I know it’s controversial for a variety of different reasons (mostly the ending change), but it was the first time I had really read a book with a protagonist that was just absolutely unhinged and unapologetic about it. That being said, I personally prefer the original ending to the Kubrick film ending, I don’t care what my fellow Americans say, it made perfect sense to me.
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins - Was I 100% the target demographic for this book series when it was being published? Absolutely. Did I go completely feral when each book and movie came out like a basic young adult? Yes indeedy. Are its overarching themes still relevant today and plenty of people, including people involved with the movie, seem to miss entirely? YOU BET. I have a very soft spot for this series, and I’ve been on the fence about reading the prequel. If anyone has any thoughts, I’d love to hear them!
World War Z by Max Brooks - Max Brooks my beloved. Zombie Survival Guide was my first exposure to him as an author, but World War Z really made me think about how people would react to a zombie virus, or any virus that affects the world. It was unfortunately rather prophetic when Covid rolled around :/ But I think that is partially the brilliance of it. I have a signed copy of the book that I hold very near and dear to my heart. I still read passages from the book from time to time and highly recommend it.
Fullmetal Alchemist - As I mentioned at the beginning, I tapered off novels and moved into graphic novels/manga, but in all honesty, none have left nearly as lasting an impact on me as Fullmetal Alchemist has. It is by far one of the best series I have ever read in my life. Do you want philosophy on the value and meaning of life? A realistic depiction on the horrors of war and genocide? Well written female characters that are not tropes? Endless short people jokes? This series is for you!
Wolfsong/Green Creek Series by TJ Klune - I know TJ Klune is more well known for his YA books, and they are fun, but generally not for me. But this. This book series is what got to me. Still gets to me! If you want queer romance + found family + werewolves with none of the squick of omegaverse tropes, this series is absolutely for you. I had initially read the series for @lyriclorelei because she had heard the third book in the series featured an ace character, and that particular character is in fact, my blorbo. I love him. I cried throughout his entire book because I love him so much.
Boyfriend Material by Alexis Hall - I credit this book with jump starting my reading binge in 2022. I knew from reading Green Creek that there was a lot more queer fiction out there, but this was the first time I had ever seen fake dating outside of fanfic and well…I got hooked! At my core, I am a romance reader at heart, and I was pleasantly surprised to find all the ways the genre had evolved since I stopped reading. Truly a fun introduction to get back into reading for me.
A Marvellous Light/The Last Binding series by Freya Marske  - MY. HEART. Do you want queer wizards? A unique magical system that has not been done before? A murder mystery tied to a curse? Enemies to lovers? Queer self-awakening? This book and series has all of the above! It is absolutely fantastic and I am SO EXCITED for the final book to be published at the end of this year. Just cannot say enough good things about it.
I’m Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy - In addition to romance, I found myself binging celebrity memoirs in 2022, and Jennette McCurdy’s was the best. She’s an incredibly witty writer, and I found myself laughing and crying in equal parts throughout the book. It is, in fact, a rather triggering book considering what she went through, I definitely found myself triggered a few times, but, it was a really eye-opening thing to read, and I absolutely recommend consuming it via the audiobook because her delivery is just fantastic.
Tagging: @valeriianz @sans--seraph @the-cloudy-dreamer @rooftopwreck @historyandqueershenanigans @introvertbibliophile @mallory-x @quellawrites @aquilathefighter and whoever else wants to do this! A few of you tagged me in the other ask game, and since I already did that one, I'm tagging you in this one :3

Star wars Obikin Great Gatsby AU
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Okay now, so Anakin is Gatsby, Obi wan is Daisy, Satine is Jordan ( Daisy's BFF) and Cody is Nick Carraway? ( Daisy's cousin twice removed? Is it fits?) And then Maul ( human version) is Tom Buchanan aka Daisy's scumbag, racist, misogynistic serial cheater husband, typical white rich dude in the 1920' tbh
Now, Meyer Wolfsheim the Mafia boss who's employed Gatsby and the reason why Gatsby has all of this wealth to get Daisy is Palpatine
The QUESTION is: who's from SW universe that can be Tom's mistress??? And her husband??
It's omegaverse as well
@howlbrooklyn tagged u since you are interested xD

Why aren't there any a/b/o shrunkiclunks fics with modern Prince Bucky and omega Steve.? U know who being captain america doesn't help with the backlash he gets about being a male omega who can't give another addition to the royal bloodline..
I don't know! While I don't know of any fics exactly like that (and usually royal AUs aren't my thing) to recommend you or anything, I do like the idea. If you're into writing it you might as well go for it!
Write the content you wanna see; write for yourself.
Quick spitballing here:
Like, Cap!Steve comes from a celebrity/superhero status - royalty in it's own way - when he wakes up in the 21st century and modern!Bucky comes from a true, traditional royal status, so... when they first meet, they find that they each understand parts about the other's life that maybe "normal" people wouldn't, being royal and famous. (Though it's hard for Steve to ever admit that it can be tough to be so well known because, to Steve, it feels like complaining about something he doesn't deserve.)
And, yeah, then of course they'd get backlash because in this particular omegaverse AU heteronormativity is still a thing and the acceptance of gay rights are much like in our own modern world (better than ever but not great, not by a long shot) so they get shit for coupling up. A male alpha and male omega. How scandalous! AND shit from Bucky's own family/associates because heaven forbid-! Steve's not really royal. Steve is instead comparable to someone wealthy with "new money" rather than "old money" [feel the Great Gatsby vibes I'm sending you lol]
Good thoughts, anon!

I dont even write fanfiction and I maybe read like three a year and usually because I stumble on them, but whenever I read someone on this site say fanfiction has no value, immediately I'm like, fanfiction is not only art but the only art left in the world that has any worth, especially if it's raunchy smut written by old women, and that is the hill I'm willing to die on. Like, every time some bitter idiot looks down on fanfiction, Supernatural omegaverse fic automatically becomes the new Divine Comedy and better than The Great Gatsby. Die mad about it.

Great Gatsby is going public domain. So what will be published (strike) first, the vampire version or the omegaverse version?
I want the either the Space Opera or the weird Don Bluth-esque hyper-sugarcoated animated version where everyone is cats that spawns a new generation of furries.
The Great Catsby.
...
Wait a sec that’s just Lackadaisy.
Gatsby can’t be a werewolf because that theme fits much better for Jane Eyre (Jane Eyrewolf). The vampire metaphor is, I’ll admit, very feasible for an old money vs. nouveau riche conflict, though. There’s something there...but the Omegaverse also has a lot of capitalist anxiety as well, so we could very well see a “The Alpha OmeGatsby” in the future.
