1946: A Matter of Life and Death

1956: shockingly few entries, and none I particularly cared for (alas, I have about a million faves from 1955!). I'll go with The Hunchback of Notre-Dame (the Quinn–Cuny–Lollobrigida one) with the caveat that I haven't seen it in over a decade and don't remember if it's actually good. (Yul Brynner was a busy man in ’56 between The King and I and The Ten Commandments but there's no doubt in my mind that the former aged like milk and despite the camp of it all I very much disliked the latter.)

thinking about how Eli Wallach was almost killed horribly multiple times while filming The Good the Bad and the Ugly, but when Henry Fonda asked him if he'd enjoyed it, bc he was unsure if he should do Once Upon a Time in the West, Eli Wallach told him to take the role and that he was going to have the time of his life.

What a guy.

I feel like if I almost got decapitated by a moving train, I'd have more mixed feelings about the production.
