Le carrosse d’or (The Golden Coach) (1952)
An acting troupe travels to Peru expecting acclaim and riches but find it underwhelming, except one actress who is wooed by three different suitors.
Critically, it is elevated by including the medium of theatre in both the narrative and structure of the film. It also provides a good excuse for melodrama in performance and the many garish settings. Some aesthetic variety is also applied by on occasion seamlessly mixing the play-like mise-en-scene with real locations.
Much of the story drags because it’s caught up in the subtlety of tedious class squabbling that eventually makes the audience yearn for some French Revolution scenes. The ostentation gets carried to the extreme where at points even the golden coach itself fits in rather than appearing excessive. All the potential love interests are unhealthy in different ways so there’s no real incentive to route for any romance.
A fair amount of the subtext works effectively, notably the parts about expectations, obligations, and the class struggles. Though even these are loose since our main character is offered enough to make poverty irrelevant, her own obligations are handled flippantly, and expectations where let down are quickly smoothed over as new opportunities quickly arise incidentally.
The comedy never quite hits right. While some lines and characters are clever, it’s presented with enough false elegance to render the humour stiff. It’s less about the art than an excuse for a farcical romance. The presentation makes acting as a profession look rather bad too and not just due to some of the performances.
2/10 -It’s not THE worst, that’s something else. But…-
-Three versions of the film were produced simultaneously, in English, French, and Italian.

A Golden Adventure
"This is a story for our amazing Coach and owner of an island that is mysterious in every way, hope you like your Christmas present Coach!"
In the heart of a mythical forest, Coach Chet and Captain Hercules Gold of the Golden Army Team embarked on a quest of legendary proportions. Their mission: to find Odin’s spear, Gungnir, said to grant unparalleled power to its wielder. The air was thick with anticipation as they ventured deeper into the enchanted woods, guided by ancient runes and whispers of old.

After days of navigating treacherous paths and deciphering cryptic symbols, they arrived at a clearing bathed in an ethereal golden light. There, embedded in a stone pedestal, stood Gungnir. Its aura was both mesmerizing and intimidating, radiating an ancient energy that seemed to pulse with life.

Hercules, ever the cautious leader, studied the spear with reverence. “This is it, Chet,” he murmured, his voice filled with awe. “We’ve found Gungnir.”
But before Hercules could devise a plan, Coach Chet’s curiosity got the better of him. Driven by a mix of fascination and an inexplicable urge, he stepped forward and reached out to touch the spear. The moment his fingers brushed against its surface, a brilliant burst of golden light engulfed him.

Hercules shielded his eyes, struggling to see through the radiant glow. When the light finally dimmed, he stared in astonishment at the figure standing before him. Coach Chet had been transformed. His once mortal form now shimmered with divine energy, and his eyes glowed with the wisdom of ages.

“I am the new Golden Odin,” Chet declared, his voice resonating with newfound power. “With this spear, we shall lead the Golden Army to greatness, and protect our realm from any threat.”
Hercules nodded, a proud smile spreading across his face. Together, they had not only found Gungnir but had also unlocked a destiny greater than they had ever imagined. With the power of the golden Odin on their side, the Golden Army Team was destined for legendary glory.

Our mission is to build a culture rooted in grit, hard work, and relentless competitiveness. We're focused on continuous growth, fierce competition, and ultimately bringing a championship home to our fans and this organization.”

I have nothing against her absolutely nothing but like. The French fed just pisses me off so goddamn bad I want MDJDS to walk away from Paris 2024 with zero hardware. I don’t want them to have anyone to champion I don’t want that federation to have anything to smile about. Especially with how things have gone and them making exceptions for Melanie and only Melanie

i have hitherto kept mr. giggles away from live football matches in america because they're, plainly put, rather a disappointment for someone who has grown up in the uk. however, we are ripping the seal and going to see the usmnt play tomorrow night (so i can freely ogle christian pulisic) and i just caught my darling husband on his ipad searching up "american soccer team chants to know" on youtube.
who's gonna tell him the only song that will be featured will be the national anthem? which he hates on account of having to memorise it for his citizenship exam?

De La Fuente about Gavi: "he's a fantastic player, an extraordinary boy. I like him, I like everything about him including what we talked about yesterday and how he should have better control (on his temper). He's a player that always contributes with character that's contagious to everyone around him and he has a lot of quality as well. He's a player with great future and present and we're glad that he plays for the Spanish national team and that he's Spanish"
