Of all the places you've been to, which was your favorite?

There’s this place near the end of my old prefecture in Japan called Karaoto seaside park. I’ve talked about it before, because it’s the most beautiful place I’ve ever been.

The flowers bloom in winter. I used to wake up before sunrise and drive three hours, alone, to go see it during the covid early years. It was always empty, and the air smelled like heaven. It looked like this:

GUYS I GOT STUCK IN THE FUCKING SNOW TODAY ON MY DRIVE HOME FROM WORK. I LIVE LITERALLY ONE SINGLE MINUTE AWAY. IT IS A 5 MINUTE WALK. WHAT RHE FUCK

In honor of the fact that I realized today it's been 1 whole year since I did the first session of my first TTRPG/Call of Cthulhu campaign The Flowers Down Home I wanted to do one of those "which one of these DIDN'T happen" polls but because I can't make each choice short I'm writing them here before the poll with numbers going with the poll options:

A PC nearly died in the first session after another PC rolled the worst possible roll to throw them at a monster

Because a PC wanted to date them, a throwaway NPC became a reoccurring ally for the party/love interest

A PC created six pipe bombs that were used to kill the BBEG

Two of my players spent 20 real life minutes trying to plan out how to kill a monster, unaware that they killed it in the previous session

During the last hour of the final session of the campaign we had "Pink Pony Club" by Chappell Roan playing in the background

Arson was committed at least three different times during the whole campaign and all by the same PC

The BBEG was a parasitic plant based alien who's grand plan was to turn everyone in the town into beings like them through running a restaurant because they were one of the last members of a dying species

I once decided to randomly roll a d100 to see how long it would take for the police to arrive after my players had their characters call the police. I rolled a 69.

One PC who was 21 and another PC who was 17 developed beef with one another

Only one PC ever suffered notable effects of sanity damage

while the twins were visiting their father for their mother's funeral, adrienne met dulce; whose mother lived at the same retirement home as daryl and joyce

adrienne found it surprising to hear her asking her out, but what the hell? she hadn't spoken to hajar since she crashed her mother's funeral. AND apparently, she has a child, who adrienne has a suspicion she stole

my great aunt Chris died last night, per Mum, just now.

Didn't think I'd be sending funerary flowers out so soon after the last bunch, but this is probably the slowest this will be for the rest of my life. They say the older you get the faster that cycle goes until you're hoping someone will be left to send some to your funeral, and thus far i can't say they're wrong.

She was a lovely, kind woman. We didn't get to spend nearly as much time with her as we should have, but got to meet up at family reunions, and it was like having an instant second grandma. She didn't even need to know who your mum was or how else you were related, if you were there you were family and she'd happily spend time with and look after you to give the parents a break. I think my strongest memory from those times is that she didn't yell, even if you fucked up. It stuck out to me as a kid bc i was always so worried abt being good at the reunions, but she never said a harsh word if you dropped a plate or needed help getting a drink from the cooler.

Aunt Chris I'm so sorry we didn't get more time, and that there's still so much I didn't get to learn about you while you were here. I fear that's going to happen with a lot of family members in the future, unfortunately.

Okay, *takes deep breath. Stands on soap box. Wiggles uncomfortably.* Can I just, can I just wine for a minute? Because I finished my first playthrough the other night and while it was mostly a great time, I have a qualm. A bone to pick, if you will. I romanced Shadowheart, because she is babygirl and I love her. I also freed her parents, which she seems largely happier for. And then I get this end cut scene at the end that starts off really well where she talks about the comfort of waking up in my arms and then she addresses my Tav as if our relationship is in question? That she hopes it will continue? That she hopes I'll come find her? And I am like...m'am. Where you going? Why do you think I'm not going with you? To reference the words of another game, "In truth, for the chance to be by your side I would storm the Dark City itself. Never doubt it." I'll follow you anywhere. I have prioritized you at all points. Love of my life, apple of my eye. I'm just a little salty I didn't get more of a celebration of our success and of our relationship, that of course I want to settle down with her. Somewhere quiet with a garden and with her family. We had that conversation in game. And instead I get this hesitation? And it just fell a little flat for me. I wanted more. I would have loved an ending that included her parents, to have this coming together of a family torn apart and built anew. Because honestly it's pretty clear a lot of the companions lacked good parental figures (with a few exceptions) and since Shadowheart's parents admit they had once planned on a bigger family I have this headcannon where they just sorta adopt the whole party and they hang around camp fretting over and taking care of everyone. Every companion has cried in their presence and received much needed hugs and this is now turning into a whole other argument BUT, point being. I wanted more. That is all.
