(Part 1 of the Blind Item Series) (Part 1 of the Teen Dad OP AU)

Summary: Rumors are flying about a young driver with kids

Seeing the rumor, and various other tweets commenting on the matter, first thing this morning was like getting a bucket of ice water dumped on him. Oscar immediately sat up, frightening his fiancée who was asleep next to him a moment before.

“What? What's wrong? Are you okay?” she asked, sitting up.

“Fuck this is not good.��� He mumbled as he looked through more tweets. He knew he had minutes before his PR team started messaging him on how best to proceed. 

“Osc, you are really scaring me. What is going on?” His fiancée asked again. After 5 years together and two kids, she knew him well enough to know that Oscar isn’t easily woken up. While he usually wakes up early to train or help the kids, on days like today where he has the chance to sleep in, he will usually take it. But the amount of notifications he started getting were enough to get him to check his phone and once he saw the severity of the situation he was awake and alarmed. 

“A blind item about a ‘younger f1 driver with two kids he had as a teen’ just went up. No confirmation on who but it seems they have gotten it down to only a few of us. They don’t know yet but I am sure they will know soon.” 

He was grateful they hadn’t clocked in on him but Oscar was sure with a bit more time to dig people would put two and two together. He wasn’t ashamed of the fact that he was a teen dad, not anymore at least. When he was even more so an up and coming driver, he kept it hush because he was nervous being 18 with two kids would lead teams to reconsider where his priorities were, his family or his career. That wouldn’t have been crazy of them to do though, as important as racing was to Oscar, he would always pick his family first. Luckily, though, he had a great enough support system so he didn't have to choose. 

Most people in Oscar’s life knew. Any teams apart from Prema, Mclaren, and Alpine were none the wiser but why would they need to know? Not all drivers knew either, some who he had become closer to were let in on the secret, especially Logan, who had been there the entirety of his kids' lives. Annoyingly, at least in Oscar’s opinion, he has been titled ‘the cool uncle’ from day one. 

“What do we do?” his fiancée asked, snapping him out of his spiraling.

“I imagine it is up to my team to figure that one out. I’ll message them now. Get the kids ready and I’ll be done in time to help with breakfast.” He said as he got up.

After a long, pretty impromptu, call, it was decided Oscar would make a statement about it before it was revealed to be him. He wasn’t too happy about not getting to really do it on his own terms but this is the way it worked out, and hey, Oscar would be lying if he said he wasn’t already planning which race he was going to bring his kids to first.

oscarpiastri This is of course not how I wanted to do this. I had hoped to have more time before I had to let the peace of privacy go but these things happen when you are in the spotlight. So yes, I am a father of two great kids and I have been since I was 18. I am not ashamed by the fact I was a teen dad, and am certainly not hiding my kids out of anything but love. I hadn’t realized I could truly love anything or anyone more than racing but then these two came into my life and I realized I would give it all up for them. Luckily, with the support of their mother (who is my fiancée) and my family, I didn’t have to give it up. My four person family means more to me than anything and I count my lucky stars each night that I have been blessed with them. I ask that you please respect our privacy. This isn’t the end of you seeing the Piastri twins but I, being the over protective father I am, am not ready to throw two 3 year olds into the chaos of the motorsport world just yet.

what saddens me the most about the Lance situation as it is, especially in the lights of the tweet liked by Bianca Bustamante (who is a signed junior driver at McLaren as of today) where op calls Lance “an autist”, apart from the regular “just a pay driver” shtick, is the normalization of hating Lance. somehow people in the fandom and evidently among the actual drivers (hello, Drugo, you bitch) have adopted a rhetoric that paints Lance as someone who is ok to hate because: a) daddy owns the team; b) doesn’t have goat level results; c) just because! he’s not widely loved, so it’s all fine, all good. and it’s not real since we’re on the internet. right?

it’s sickening to see what people say about him (both using ableist language, antisemitic comments etc) and then defend themselves saying “well you see he’s this and that and this so I hate him”. you don’t. you’re just full of inhuman hate and need an outlet. or you wanna be one of the “cool kids” which means only liking certain drivers and shitting on the others. fucking check yourselves.

since f1 fandom across all platforms is far from healthy, you get used to seeing takes that make you want to gouge your eyes out, yet Lance seems to be the most popular target of that hatred, unbiased as it is. it’s not even fully about the money or the fact that Lance, indeed, has a father who loves him very much and made sure his son got all the opportunities in the world. you can be mad about it all you want but it won’t change anything.

the line between not liking a particular driver and straight up mixing him with dirt is non-existent these days.

in all honesty, if Lance really didn’t care about racing, at all, he would have walked away already. why risk your life if you’re already set for life money wise? sit and think about that for a bit.

regarding the tweet recently liked by Bianca — I want to make it clear that I’m not familiar with her and I am not hating on her, simply judging this incident — I can’t help but wonder. you made it to f1 and you know how soc med works. likes are public. why? answer might not be clear. but entertain this idea — if there was already a precedent where she found it ok to like a tweet that praises her and shits on Lance, imagine what the kind of mindset there is already in place. so many things we don’t know about that happens behind the scenes.

this isn’t the last we have shit like that happen and it isn’t the first. doesn’t make it any less frustrating and rage inducing.

Max has been managing really well all of the uncertainties Red Bull has brought to the plate lately, he gets to the track, races then goes back home, that’s what he wants and doesn’t get caught up in the drama.

But there’s a limit to what a person can take.

He’s given his everything to the team, he’s been taking that car to lengths no one thought it could go and the team has supported him in those tough races but he wants perfection and is constantly pushing himself to find it and rightfully asks for perfection from them, this is after all a team sport.

He was frustrated and had the right to be, the team was probably also frustrated and since tensions have been high in Red Bull for a while, I’m really not surprised. But I think he felt they let him down and that may have been the reason for this particular situation.

I don’t think is fair people just try to put everything on him, he’s a human being and he can make mistakes (like many drivers do yet they are treated like humans with feelings unlike when it’s about Max) he can be frustrated and angry and wouldn’t be the first driver to scream on the radio and I hate that people keep saying he hasn’t matured and is the same impatient kid that joined F1 years ago.

He’s a very different man, he has grown into an amazing champion and will go down in history as one of the greats, he already is.

I don’t understand how people can just ignore the fact that he has feelings and doesn’t matter how strong minded he is, no one should be treated like that.

I admire his strength and determination infinitely.

zak brown hater anon here, I gotchu 🫶. This isn’t very controversial (maybe) but I think no matter what we should have an age limit.

People turn to Max and say he was able to do but don’t understand it’s because he’s the only one we could ever turn to- and happens to be successful. No hate to Kimi, honestly, he could be amazing in F1 even if he’s not in F2, but it’s a risk. Max is the exemption because he’s the pinnacle everyone wants.

Max was a risk his first few years in f1 because f1 was his rookie season, and all the drivers took note and steered clear of him because if you were close to him there was a high chance you would crash- because he was still learning. (Nico 2016 nightmares 💔) Yes, he’s considered one of the best, even when he was young and now regarded by multiple wdc’s but they all knew he had to change his driving style because of how dangerous it was. We look at Logan and while he isn’t 17, he was bumped up to F1 way too soon. He crashes, a lot. Logan isn’t a bad driver per se, his f2 season was pretty good but if he were to stay another year in f2 I feel like it would’ve been a whole different story from today.

But the crashes is just one thing why I worry for kids in f1 (yes they’re 17 but hey, they’re still young) is that it’s a lot for mental health. FIA themselves had the age limit because of the backlash on the sport and so there wouldn’t be another Max verstappen. But lo and behold, they have a very talented and upcoming driver and they want to let him in- at 17- same reason why they wanted Max not to drive. I think it’s kinda hypocritical of FIA, but I understand that rules can change over time. But it’s the fact that their exception for younger than 18 yr old drivers is that they must be promising? promising? What a load of crap. Other well established drivers who could’ve debuted at 17 or maybe older but didn’t have enough points (because the points system is bs..) isn’t the same thing? Why weren’t they granted an exemption?

Though, I would like to point out I’m not saying I think max should’ve raced at 17 too. As much as I love his first few seasons and how development, he was not just a risk to other drivers but for himself. He’s a talented driver, but that could’ve gone wrong if he didn’t have the mentality that he had. Few were on his side and rumors were spreading that he would’ve been without a seat until he changed his style. Yes, he won a few gp’s and got podiums, all-in-all a skilled driver that deserved a seat but everyone focused on how aggressive his style is. He finally did change, after years of being in F1. This could never happen now in F1 because they would be kicked out before they could even try. People would react to like how they did with Logan or Nyck. Barely had a chance at F1 yet let’s kick them out and let other talent show. F1 is a tough sport, yes, but it’s also very hypocritical.

so yes, it would be tough for young drivers like Kimi. I don’t know much about his personality but the media is ruthless.

The same thing could happen to Kimi or any other young driver. Sometimes the real pressure isn’t the race itself but the media. A lot of drivers who weren’t even that young already felt this pressure. Albon is a great example. One reason why Red Bull wasn’t cut out for him is that all eyes were on him and always criticized him and it was so bad that he stopped social media for a while.

Kimi is a talented driver, but there is no rush in f1. New young talent is good for the sport but it should also not mean “let’s serve the plate raw” I guess this also shows how bs the super-license is but even then I believe the 18+ rule should stay. Though, the points system should be reworked… and the fact people can get exemption…

Oh my god, I was literally gonna make a post abt this (especially with the new allowance of 17 yr old that the fia has announced), and this is timed so perfectly. Anyway, u are literally never wrong ZB❌️ anon <3

Overall, you've covered literally every point I wanted to talk about, so I'm just gonna add a little bit on to the mental aspect to what uve said, but other than that, this summarises my thoughts PERFECTLY.

I feel like fans also forget how MUCH of a mental strain it puts on a driver to be promoted to f1 THAT young. when max got that torro rosso seat, it was like he was fresh meat and they were all starved predators, ESPECIALLY when they realised he was too young to properly control/ limit his answers to the media. There were SO MANY articles just absolutely CRUSHING him, like it's genuinely insane how bad it was. That kind of thing is not healthy for ANYONE, much less a CHILD. And atleast max was occasionally podiuming and doing really well, like look at logan (the poor boy) this man is getting absolutely VIOLATED by both the media and his team, and it's not even really his fault. It's the team's fault for bringing him up this quick and then leaving him to fend for himself the SECOND he's not doing as well as they wanted and needs emotional support.

The same goes for kimi, I get that he's a talented driver, but ppl need to chill. This boy still isn't properly used to f2 cars, uve made him COMPLETELY skip f3, and now ur talking abt promoting him to f1 next season??? He's sixth in the f2 standings rn, by the way. And I'm sorry, but giving him a seat in MERCEDES next year is both going to be so unfair to him (the media are gonna rip him from limb to limb if he makes even a little mistake) and to the other drivers who are much higher than him in the standings.

Anyway, I love u ZB❌️ anon, and thank u for letting me rant abt this😭 (I was gonna respond to this much quicker, but since I couldn't sleep last night, I thought 'oh might as well go to the park and just chill for a bit, reconnect with nature and all that shit' and then I ended up falling off one of those small hills so bad that I got a hairline fracture😭. So... never doing that again!)

ALRIGHT BABES, HERE WE ARE AGAIN. I am in Knoxville, Tennesee this time and yet, AND YET, I am still trying to be productive.

Once again, I come to you with the offerings of two snippets.

Sympathy Is A Knife - Charlando

The press surrounding him is already feral. They’re waiting. Max Verstappen has a meteoric rise, but Charles Leclerc has something different. He has the Tifosi singing his name like a song, he has Ferrari on their knees.  And even with all that, Charles Leclerc has just been so utterly human to Lando Norris. Another boy with a dream.  Another boy with a dream, and somehow, he’s still one of Lando’s idols. So human, and yet, he’s carried to sainthood. There’s only 1 year in Formula 1 separating them, and only two years separating them in age, and yet Lando wishes that he knew what it was like to be upheld like that. He knows who his idols should be. He knows Max Verstappen should be on that list, making a name for himself, the youngest driver to join F1. No History in GP2 to speak of. But where Max is just Max, Charles is larger than life. Broad smile, bright eyes, the warmest thing Lando thinks he’s ever seen.

“Have you talked to Will about Oscar’s times yet?” Zak asks, and before waiting for an answer, ploughs forwards still, “They’re really promising, built a car for you but it seems to suit the kid too,” and Zak sounds fucking enamoured by the fact that he’s got a car built for two drivers, a season built for the two of them, for McLaren in the constructors.  “Maybe we can one two it this year,” Lando says, and the smile that he gives Zak is a little too sharp to be anything other than carnivorous, “I’ll be number one, of course,” and the laugh that Zak gives isn’t reassuring, something tentative and hesitant about it, almost like he’s choking on the sound as it leaves his lips.  “He’s a rookie, Zak,” is Lando’s acerbic reply, “You can’t actually believe that he’ll win a championship. Even Lewis couldn’t do it,” voice derisive, “And Lewis is absolutely better than the kid,” 

I HAVE BEEN PRODUCTIVE WHILE TRAVELLING. Still haven't finished anything but it is what it is.

Do you guys remember when the hate with Lance got so bad that he had to turn off his comments?

And then it was all like "Oh, this is unacceptable, people shouldn't do this?"

Yeah, we are right at the same fucking point with all comments regarding him being how he should lose his yet, how he is so dismissive of the sport, how he clearly doesn't care, how he should just switch to another sport, how pathetic and embarrassing it is that he is so far behind Nando, ...

That is the nice version. I am not including slurs, threatening violence or just normal hate.

F1 fans literally learn nothing.

You bullied Romain until he nearly died, you made Nicky a target until all of the grid had to speak up, you made Timo Glock get extra security because he was afraid for his safety.

This has nothing to do with a rise in social media (although that doesn't help.)

The fans are fucking vile and learn 0. They go in the same cycles looking for someone to blame, a punching bag because apparently it's so hard to just let drivers do their job and accept the fact that teams and drivers have different skill and development.

This will sound like a double standard because I have made plenty negative posts about drivers like Max, Lando etc. But the difference is that I am not going into a fandom space to spread that hate. I explicitly tag my opinions so that only people who share that same view will see it. I also don't wish harm or threaten violence to anyone. I have seen how F1 can take a life easily and I would never make a comment that someone should die because that is a human fucking being. When I say something negative, even when I say I hate a driver I would never wish that person to lose their seat or even to lose their life. That is fucked up. Drivers give so much to get to F1 and you what, just decide to ignore all their sacrifices and career to make one hate comment? Fuck you. The difference between me saying that I hate someone using a slur and a dude bro in his 50th calling for Lance to just have an accident is fucking glaring.

The fans continue to pick on rookies, to pick someone that they can joke about until what?

A driver starves himself like JEV because the pressure is so much?

A driver develops an eating disorder like Valtteri?

What do you expect to happen when you use someone as a human punching bag?

Does it take a driver to kill himself to finally get some of you to wake up and realise that these are all human beings? That while certain drivers might have build up a thick skin overtime, you literally went after a teen until he reached his breaking point? That while maybe drivers have learned to turn it out that won't make it better? Because what is some little kid who really looks up to Lance or anyone else reads it and then asks themselves what is wrong with said driver and maybe even themselves because they relate so much to that driver? What if you cause a kid self doubt already just because it gives you satisfaction to ask for someone to be hurt?

What is it that bullying, critizing someone so badly gives you? Validation that you aren't alone in your dislike? A sense of community by abusing a human being? A feel of what happiness that you could ask for someone to lose their lives work because you don't like them?

There is a difference between abuse and opinion and it's clear that F1 fans don't see that.

The human punshing bag, the "new Latifi" as you like to call drivers will literally have his entire self worth questioned because of some race results?

Is that what gives some of you satisfaction?

Tearing people down until what, they have no other choice but to leave for their own health and safety?

- haha shiiiit~ a lot. I come back to my drafts every other hour/half hour and most of which are chapters of series or scenarios. BUT if I were to count them (including chapters that are already completed and ready to be posted), I would say around… 15-25 WIPs? Yeah. I’m batshit.

8. What project(s) are you currently working on?

It really depends on my mood 😫 As I said before, I make things out of pure enjoyment. I’m refraining from posting more social media snapshots of dad!F1 drivers because I feel like I’m just being lazy doing that. I do love me some dad!F1 drivers tho!

But right now, I’m trying to get back to the Hearth Sisters universe groove! That means I’m trying to find inspiration for the Toto Wolff series (Colour Me Your Colour), Max Verstappen series (To Loathe and To Love) and potentially more dad!Charles scenario (About Names)

Another thing I’m working to get back on would be the Honey Honey series! I feel like I haven’t been inspired to write/make posts about that LN4 series so now it’s my break… yeah.

OH! And yeah more dad!F1 fics! The chances of me posting standalone scenarios for F1 drivers as dads are higher than the chances of flooding your timeline with series chapters LOOOOL!

FROM ABOUT NAMES || CL16 SCENARIO (3)

“It only makes sense,” Aimee shrugged. “Since either of us are presenting to his peers and their other guardians— why don’t we talk about his names?”

The Ferrari driver thought about it for a moment. His sons and their names meant a lot for the couple, with them being named after people that meant so much — people that both Charles and Aimee looked up to.

Sacha ‘PJ’ Leclerc, much like his brothers, was named after the people that gave meaning to Charles and Aimee’s relationship and their lives way before the kids came along. It only makes sense that the couple answer the questions of who were the kids named after.

Especially when PJ’s teacher, Julie, grew curious about the boy’s nickname. His name was Sacha yet the adults called him PJ— why?

“Okay,” Charles nodded, “we can do that.”

“One condition,” Charles continued, making Aimee nod.

His slight scowl was mimicked by little Alain as Charles spoke, “I’m not messing with the glitter glues.”

“No gwue!” Alain exclaimed as if he struggled with the glittery sticky material before.

SILVERSTONE GP 2005

I haven’t seen someone as excited to see me as Jenson Button. At first, I thought I wasn’t planning to head back to the race any time soon but because of my manager’s insistence — in her words, “You are Britain’s best darling!” — I attended the race in England once more.

Of course, I haven’t lost contact with Jenson. His insistence of “keeping contact” wasn’t anything harmful — and so I just went with it. Except I only kept my emails and responses to a minimum as he continued to pester me. Seeing him in the race once more certainly made my stomach flutter— he was just as handsome as I’d seen him last year.

What he told me however was surprising. He was invited to the event for the Pride & Prejudice premiere. He said this with his usual irritatingly handsome smile. I’ve never been in such a tizzy feeling before… at least until now that I’ve met him.

God. I’ve never been so whipped over a man before. He’s irritating, indeed, but he’s making me want him more. Not that I’ll ever allow my heart to break just like that. In fact, maybe he should work on it.

Our encounter after the race was what had everyone going mad. After all, it wasn’t every day they got to hear a man and a woman talk like they’d known each other for a long time despite only knowing each other through emails.

20. What’s a favorite title for a fic you’ve written?

I have a thing for alliteration. Like same sound or letter at the beginning of every word in the sentence and all? Yeah. I love me some alliteration. So I would say my favourite title came from my Sebastian Vettel fic, “Sebastian and Sons (& Soufflés)”

S - The Twelve Trials of Asterix

A true blue classic. Very funny, there's a lot of varied locations and animation styles and it's just really well written.

The settings are used very creatively to tell jokes and move the plot forward. Certified "can watch anytime" movie.

1 point deducted for gross depictions of background characters of color, 9/10

A - Asterix in Egypt

Fun premise, creative usage of the usual formula and nice change of scenery. This one also has fun and catchy songs.

I only put it lower than The Twelve Trials because it's not as tightly written or funny, but it's still a fun time. If this and The Twelve Trials are anything to go by, it's that Asterix movies benefit from plots that are just a series of events with a predictable yet satisfying climax by the end.

Once more, 1 point deducted for gross depictions of background characters of color and also because it's an European movie depicting a non-white culture in 1968, 8/10

B - Asterix and the Vikings

The Disney movie of Asterix movies, honestly? In the sense that it's beautifully animated have great use of CGI, and a very competently paced plot (which can be an issue from many Asterix movies, but the rest of them tend to make up for it).

It's B tier because it isn't very funny and because it's going for a plot with more stakes that by the end the points it brings up kind of get forgotten. It questions gender roles in the beginning but it entirely drops them. That isn't to say I would have wanted it to commit to it because this just isn't that type of series.

It's a good watch, but nothing special. 7/10

B - Asterix, the Gaul

It's an introductory movie, pretty much. Establishes the world of Asterix and has a simple plot based on the established rules. Not much to say, but it's a neat time. 6/10

C - Asterix in Britain

The joke is that Brits are posh and drop everything to drink tea at five. Also that they strictly don't work on weekends and have plenty of days off? Weird flex, movie, but okay.

The setting is not used creatively in the slightest, most of the funny jokes only come from the ineptness of the Roman Empire which we could have had in any other setting.

The animation is beautiful, but that's all there is to it. 5/10

D - Asterix and the Big Fight

This one is pretty bizarre.

There aren't many jokes maybe outside visual gags that also, unlike usually, don't return to affect the plot. That's when you know, it's trying to take itself too seriously.

That isn't to say the mood isn't conveyed well, but it's so jarring for this series. There's a lot of shockingly graphic scenes despite the fact that it is, like usual, just cartoon violence. It's just animated in a very visceral way. The soothsayer's introductory scene made me shake in my boots as a kid.

But shocking imagery and subject matter does not a good movie make. 4/10

D - Asterix Versus Caesar

This one is bizarre in another way.

Two new characters are introduced who are a macho action hero and a very beautifully drawn conventionally attractive woman who do not fit the setting or the art style at all. They also have little personality and serve little more than damsels in distress in the story. Yeah the action hero guy too. I guess it's subversive but I wish the movie ran with that and made the situation funny.

This movie is also a little bleak in places but it is that in moderation. It's still a little jarring within the series itself but not in the movie itself which already is a little more serious than others.

Still, not many jokes, not many interesting setpieces, the plot isn't very interesting either. It's competently animated. 4/10

D - Asterix at the Olympic Games

This one is not a retelling or already animated Asterix stories, thankfully. The plot is also written much tighter and it's a lot more interesting.

The Michael Schumacher cameo was cheeky as hell I have no clue how that happened. I don't know celebrities but I had a cars phase and I knew my F1 drivers.

It's okay for what it is, but what it is is an inferior medium telling a story that wasn't meant to be live-action. 4/10

F - Asterix and Obelix: Mission Cleopatra

It's literally just a retelling of Asterix in Egypt but it's worse because it's live-action and Asterix doesn't work in live-action.

The sets were fun, but that's it. The songs were also replaced with pop songs. Blasphemy. 2/10

F - Asterix and Obelix (1999)

It's literally just a retelling of Asterix the Gaul but it's worse because it's live-action and Asterix doesn't work in live-action.

The only thing it does better is that the name spoofs are funnier than in the cartoons, but I will also immediately deduct that point for the gross-out scenes. This one doesn't even have a fun set to go with it like Mission Cleopatra. 1/10

F - Asterix Conquers America

This one just has every flavor of racism against Native Americans you can imagine, don't watch it. 0/10

He and reader are expecting but keeping it secret, Carlos won the race! Summary: Having a baby and everybody finding out

You realized that you were pregnant after a series of fortunate events that, individually, you did not take as alarm signals.

One evening, Carlos decided to spare you from cooking dinner and ordered your favorite food from your favorite restaurant. You were very excited to eat it, but when the food arrived you were on the verge of throwing up because of the smell. You told Carlos you couldn't eat, so you just ate an apple and went to bed. The next day, after Carlos left for the gym, you couldn't get away from the toilet because if you took a few steps you would feel like throwing up. However, when your boyfriend came home, you didn't feel so sick anymore, but you didn't tell him what happened to you because you didn't want to worry him.

You had a vague idea that you could be pregnant but you wanted to wait until Carlos leaves for France for the Grand Prix.

The day he left you went to the pharmacy and bought two pregnancy tests.

Positive.

You just sat down and cried. You stared at the positive test for several minutes. Honestly, you were so hormonal and conflicted about the timing that you bawled your eyes out. You were both happy and worried. Carlos was busy with his Formula 1 career, you didn't know if it was appropriate to add a child to the dynamics of your life.

But you recovered immediately. You are talking about Carlos, of course, he will be happy to have a child with you. You've been together for four years, you knew you would be together for the rest of your life.

The next day you did another pregnancy test, just in case. Positive, obviously. You went to the pharmacy again, and you took four more tests, to do one every day until Carlos came home.

"Hey, honey. I missed you," says Carlos entering the house.

You didn't even let him take off his shoes. You handed him a gift box in which you put the six pregnancy tests you took.

"Amor, did I forget an anniversary?"

You nod.

"Open it."

You see him take the lid off the box and take out a pregnancy test. Then another one, and another one, until he took them all out. You could see it on his face, he was scared and overwhelmed.

"Seriously?" he asks.

You nod and bite your lip, a few tears run down your face.

"Amor, that's wonderful! Ay Dios Mio! Are we going to be parents?"

You laugh and kiss him long.

"Yes, we will be parents."

You have scheduled an appointment for the next day to confirm the pregnancy and determine how many weeks you are pregnant. It looks like you're 10 weeks pregnant, so that means month 3 of your pregnancy. You couldn't believe that for almost 3 months you didn't realize you were pregnant, but you always had an irregular cycle, so it's not really incomprehensible.

You and Carlos have decided not to announce publicly that you will have a child just yet. For now, you were happy to share the news with your families, wanting to plan a nice way to tell your friends as well.

You know that feeling you get at certain times of the month when you want to cry at every cheesy commercial or could explode with anger at the drop of a hat? Pregnancy is like that sometimes, except 10 times more intense. With your new hormones raging, and more stress in your life than ever before, what with getting a nursery together and preparing to welcome the precious baby into the world and all, emotions are high. Tempers are bound to flare.

That is how you felt sitting in the paddock with Carlos who was preparing for the race. He was starting from P3 so he was pretty excited and nervous for the race. He saw your state, he knew you too well.

"Ay, mi Amor, come here," he said and hugged you to calm your nerves. "Don't worry, ok? It's an easy race, I'm gonna win it for you and the little bean, ok?"

You giggle at the sound of Carlos's nickname for the baby. You kiss him and smile.

"You know I don't really care about winning. Just come back to us. Safe." you say, your voice barely a whisper, not wanting anyone around you to hear your discussion.

"Si, pequeña. Always."

Sure, you were always concerned when he was racing. But especially now when your hormones were driving you insane and you were growing another person in your body. But you trusted him. With all of your heart. If he said he will come back to you, he will.

It took you a few moments to understand what was happening. Carlos Oñoro was hugging you, yelling 'He won!' and you looked at the screens in front of you. He did. Carlos Sainz was the winner in Monza! He kept his word, he won for you and your child.

"Hey, Y/N!" you hear your name being called by Riccardo Adami, the race engineer of Carlos. "The winner wants to talk to you."

You giggle and go to him. 'The winner'... Has a nice ring to it.

"Hey, baby! Congratulations!" you say excitedly over the radio.

"Si, mi amor! I told you I'm gonna win for our baby! I love you both so much!"

What you didn't know was that there was a glitch over the radio and every driver heard Carlos talking about 'your baby'.

"Aaa, guys? Why am I hearing Carlos over the radio talking about a baby?" Charles asked his race engineer.

"There's a glitch. Come to the garage."

"A baby?!" Lando yells into the radio, making his race engineer flinch. "Was that Carlos saying he is going to have a baby? Oh my God!"

You were waiting for Carlos to come out of his car, being absolutely clueless about the hysteria you two just caused. Carlos was just about to get his helmet out when all the drivers came to you two, yelling congratulations to you both. You looked at Carlos. Did he tell someone about your pregnancy? Did you give it away?

"Uh, thank you but how did you find out?" Carlos asked, clueless as you.

"We heard it over the radio," Kimi responds giving you a genuine smile.

"This is not how I wanted you guys to find out," Carlos said and put an arm over your shoulders, kissing your head. "But, yeah, it is true, we are having a baby."

"Mate, you're having a baby! That is so crazy! You are basically a baby!" Daniel says and hugged you both.

"And who is the godfather?" Lando asked and everyone laughed.

"We just found out two weeks ago, there are still five months to think about it," you say and bit your lip and Lando pouts. "You'll be considered, Lando."

After three months you decided to have a gender reveal for your family and friends. You could have had it a lot sooner but you wanted to be at an appropriate time for everyone. All the drivers came, as well as your family and Carlos's too. You made everyone wear a piece of clothing according to the gender they think your baby is. You were surprised to see the majority of the people being team boy, but as Lewis said 'They just want to make sure the third generations of Sainz is coming in Formula 1' and you know he was right.

"Look, listen to me, I have three kids, ok? I know, for a fact, by the way you are carrying that it is a girl!" Sebastian said and you laughed. He was wearing his pink T-shirt with pride, being 100% sure he is right.

He was.

You were having a girl and you could swear that Carlos cried a little when he saw the pink confetti. He hugged you for a few minutes, being still in shock.

"Una niña pequeña..." he whispered in your ear. "I am not ready."

You laughed and kissed him.

"You are gonna be the best dad ever, don't worry."

"No, I know that. I am not ready for her to date! And she'll go to university, no..."

"Carlos, she is not even been born yet! You have plenty of time to spend with her."

"Hi, guys, sorry to interrupt!" Lando appears near the two of you, making you break apart from your hug. "Did you think about the godfather or... or this is not a good time to ask?"

Everyone heard him and started laughing.

"Mate, remember the bag I gave you when you arrived?" Carlos asked him and Lando nodded. "You can look inside the bag now."

Lando got the bag and inside was a white romper saying 'Will you be my godfather?'

Lando looked at the romper with tears in his eyes.

"Well, if you insist..."

So I finally watched ‘Whatever It Takes’ and this is what I noticed:

- People tend to talk about Max’s karting (and f4) career as if he had buckets with money behind him which isn’t true. Racing wasn’t making money yet, they were racing in Italië every weekend and I presume Jos was working during the week. Like sure he didn’t have it as bad as Esteban for example, but it was a struggle still

- Max and Jos relationship is the most intriguing thing I’ve seen. It’s a constant push and pull of wanting to be better than the other. And then mostly Max wanting to prove Jos wrong constantly, but also Jos being hellbent on making Max learn from everything. That together with Jos being a very strict (not so nice) father should create a relationship that’s doomed to fail. But instead they both recognise that that period was essential for Max’s career, essential to get to formula one. And they do seem to both understand that they didn’t have a healthy father/son relationship back then, but they see it as something that was worth it and that they’ve moved past or are moving past since, I’d say, Jos wasn’t that much involved in his racing anymore so since he started in formula one.

- THE FUCKING TRUST HELMUT PUT IN BABY MAX BY PUTTING HIM IN F1 IS INSANE AND PEOPLE DONT APPRECIATE THAT ENOUGH

Like lil 16 year old Max managed to impress Helmut fucking Marko so much that he actually agreed to put a f3 driver in a formula one car for two years, simply cuz that was what his management (Jos mostly) was asking for and he didn’t want to lose Max to a different driver academy… he decided that Max’s talent is so special that he took the gamble of putting a young boy in the middle of puberty in the summit of motor racing, but also dealing with a very very protective and controlling dad. It’s crazy, he’s insane and he made the decision of a lifetime.

- The fact that Max, who started at 16 and a half, stayed humble. Always humble, always knowing what his family sacrificed for his career, staying very down to earth. All while going through puberty, a period in your life where you’re very easily influenced by the world around you and what people say about you. He could’ve turned into the most arrogant person on that grid, like a complete fuckhead without learning from his mistakes at all. But instead he did learn from his mistakes, he still doesn’t want any fame, he’s quite humble while still being completely sure of himself and his driving. That’s pretty amazing you know? Cuz this is the kid that got compared to the best of the best in formula one, which could’ve easily made him an arrogant piece of shit or very insecure but he didn’t and he still hasn’t even after winning his first championship

- He’s an athlete who kinda doesn’t wanna be an athlete and that’s hilarious. I mean same, I wanna be in shape without doing anything too but noooo

- Helmut is a dramatic son of a bitch and I can appreciate that (with changing Daniil for Max)

- Max winning Barcelona 2016 while only having had a seat fitting for the car, 3 practice sessions and a qualy is fucking crazy still!! Even if he ‘got lucky’ with the merc drama, he was still in the top 6 when that happened. TOP FUCKING 6 IN A CAR HE DOESNT KNOW THAT WELL IS CRAZY ALREADY BUT THEN FUCKING WINNING IT IS FUCKING INSANE

Niki Lauda x Ferrari's first female engineer/mechanic hcs

Request: Could I request Niki Lauda x Ferrari’s first female engineer/mechanic? It was the 70s so even though she really knows her stuff she gets a lot of crap, and even though they vibe on cars she doesn’t take any from Lauda. She really loves what she does, the kind to stay up all night to finish or fix or tinker with something but usually catches a ride with Niki after races cuz she finds the afterparties boring/pretentious. Hope this isn’t too specific! -🦇

- You had fought tooth and claw to get where you were. Ferrari's first female engineer. Just thinking over it made you feel giddy. Ever since you were a child you were obsessed with cars and wanted to build them all. At a young age, you started making go-karts, riding them down your street. You would go searching for scraps at the local garage to improve your own kart and then race it against the neighbour's kids. While you enjoyed the ride, the feel of the wind rushing by your face as you travel speedily, you knew your heart always belonged to the actual making of the kart rather than racing

- You were always found around the local garage, and the men were kind enough to show you around and teach you skills, they found it amusing that such a young girl showed interest in such things. They saw it as a little hobby that you would grow out of one day, but they were wrong. This wasn't just a phase, it wasn't just a hobby. It was something you were passionate about and you were determined to follow it through

- And so you did. It had taken a lot. Men didn't like it that a woman was proving better than them. Showing them up. At all chances, they tried to pull you down, prevent you from getting far but even they couldn't deny the skill you had for engineering. In the end, their need for a good engineer won out against their misogyny and you were allowed to join the team. A lot of the men there still treated you like crap, never acknowledging your good work and treating you as if you were an idiot but you knew just being there you were an inspiration for other women who wanted to go into similar professions and you weren't going to give that up. Plus their remarks were easy to ignore until one certain guy came along

- You, like most of the team, scoffed at the fact that this guy Niki had to buy himself into F1. You had all joked around that he wouldn't last the season. He was just a rich boy using daddy's money to have some fun. And maybe Niki knew what was being said of him because he was quick to disprove these things. You had started to admire him, seeing just how skilled he was at driving. That was until he joined Ferrari.

- To give it to him, he didn't seem to mind that you were a female, at least if he did he never vocalized that. He did however choose to critique you and all of your team on everything they did to the car, constantly telling you what you were doing wrong and how you were costing him the races to Hunt. His arrogance pissed you off to no end

- You'd be working on adjusting the engine so it wouldn't fail from the speed it was having to push the car. He'd become up behind you, crossing his arms and shaking his head in annoyance. 'Your doing it wrong' he'd state. 'I'm the engineer, you're the driver' you'd bite back and his eyes would flicker to yours in anger. 'I know my car better than you. That's why all my improvements make my racing better, whereas yours just makes me as mediocre as Hunt'

- You'd throw the spanner to the ground in anger and stand up to glare at him, only inches apart, 'If you think you're improvements are so good why don't you just fire me and do the engineering yourself' 'Fine, I will if all you are going to give is a bitchy attitude towards me' you scoff at his words and storm off

- You thought that was it. That was the end of your time at Ferrari. But your resignation never came. You'd stay on. And it wasn't as if Niki had forgotten you existed. No, he started appearing even more when you were working on the cars. Criticizing you, undoing your hours of work and just being plain rude. It leads to many arguments with him, usually with you telling him to fuck off and yet he never got you fired and it confused you to no end.

- Because you enjoyed working on the cars so much, and how you wanted to prove to Niki that you were a good engineer, you would stay after hours most nights working on the car. The team didn't care, they usually left you alone, thinking you were stupid for wanting to spend more time there than you had already. On one night there was a party being hosted for Niki winning another race. You were invited but you didn't go, you hated the parties, usually because of the way the men treated you

- So you were working on the car when the lights were turned on in the garage and Niki's booming voice rang out, 'Who's there?' you appeared from under the car looking at him confused,' Aren't you supposed to be at the party?' 'I could say the same thing to you' is all he would reply. You would tell him you were just finishing up on some work and would be leaving in a minute. You expected him to leave you alone but instead, he waited till you were done. 'How are you getting home?' he asks as he starts to walk next to you. 'The bus?' you say, finding this very situation extremely weird as for once he wasn't insulting you. 'The bus is crap, it takes ages to get you anywhere and it's getting dark. I'll take you home' you were shocked, to say the least.

- You tried to argue against it but somehow you found yourself sitting in the passenger seat of his car and you quietly drive down the road, the awkwardness of the situation affecting both of you. 'You hate parties, even if they are your own?' you say finally breaking the silence, 'I enjoy parties, but I find the people insufferable' he simply replies back. 'Yes you seem to find everyone on the team insufferable, I'd assume me the most'

- Keeping his eyes on the road, his grip on the wheel tightens slightly. 'I don't find you insufferable' 'By the way all the work I do never seems to be good enough for you that was enough for me to believe that', he rolls his eyes as you speak. 'Your work is okay, but it can be better if you actually try'. 'I do try!' you exclaim but he just shakes his head, 'Not enough'

- Finally, you arrive at home, you turn to look at him, preparing to bite back the bitter feeling in your mouth and thank him when he says 'You can get out now'. You throw up your middle finger at him as you leave the car making him chuckle

- This incident somehow started a routine for you two. Niki realised it wasn't just that day but most days you choose to stay after hours, and suddenly he started staying after hours as well. At first, he would do the usual and just tell you everything you were doing wrong, then offer you a lift home. But soon he started helping you out, making adjustments together, and though you hated to admit it he was right with his suggestions, they made the car better. But in the same way, he was helping you improve your knowledge, and he started occasionally giving you compliments on your work, though very rare.

- He'd always offer you a lift home and honestly how could you refuse to ride with an F1 driver, even if he drove really slow on actual roads. Your conversations slowly switched from insulting each other to actually talking about common interests and joking around as if you were good friends

- Then you started to feel more, like when he was helping you on the car, and he would move past you, his hand resting on your waist briefly. Or when you would both lean over to grab something and his hand would come in contact with yours, and you would both stare at each other for a moment before he tells you to remove your hand.

- You started to actually celebrate when he won races, and not just because it was your team winning. He'd come out of the car and his eyes would first be on yours, smiling excitedly at another race won and seeing you cheer him on. Then when he was giving his winning speech and his eyes flicker to you, 'And I couldn't have won this race without the work from my team, specifically our main and first female engineer y/n'

- You could never explain the pure joy and happiness you felt at that moment. But it was very similar to the same feeling you got when you two were working on the car the next day and he asks you to look at him. For once in his life, his cocky attitude had gone away and he looked nervous but pulling himself together, he grasped the back of your neck with his hand and pulled you forward, hips lips coming to rest on yours.

god training was rigorous and the practical test was even more nerve-wracking

but no that didn’t happen yesterday

jimin just sighed and patted him on the back and said “just do good tomorrow” and how is tHAT gonna be on par with how you comfort him

he’s through about 3/4 into the race

and gOD it’s going seamless

but some things are just piling up and it’s making him completely confused

hobi’s already passed him and at this stretch, he typically wouldn’t be able to because yoongi knows hoseok’s pattern

yoongi’s only had a pit stop once and that’s the strategy that gets him winning most times

but god something just feels odd

there are always replacements

aka which just points that you’re despensable and it’s nOT helping your self-esteem

backups are there in case the event a pit crew member gets injured (or worse, incapacitated; and they’re familiar with the work and the dynamic so it would be just a seamless fit

and all of that got arranged in less than two hours :)) there was even a flight you managed to book within that time

you didn’t even get to say goodbye to jungkook :((

he had to know all of it by a short n simple goodbye and see you soon text you sent before boarding and by asking jimin what happened

they’ve had calls when they were starting out asking if they were selling baby cradles and the answer is N-O

it’s now a huge successful shop that’s like an open warehouse type!!

basically, the kim kradle is divided into three major operations

general services to intensive repair of parts and basically what goes on internally!! jin is in charge and heads that sector!!

he could see your car for two seconds and go “hey man, did you ever ace your karate lessons? lmao you have a broken fan belt not a black belt”

carwashes and waxing and all that good stuff!! namjoon is a beast at thus and your car could be like from 1997 and he’d clean it so good that it would look like it’s from 2030

customization!! from leather seats to metallic foils to coating!! taehyung has an instagram dedicated to his finished works and ongoing ones and like wHAT?? he has half a million followers?? no big deal

kim kradle is on the massive side and is therefore separated to three floors

namjoon and his carwashes are at the basement in which you’d still get sunlight in because there are inclined pathways on the side that lead out to an outdoor waiting area

jin is on the 2nd floor and basically in the same ground level where the civilization is because his section’s more critical and it’s the obvious option

taehyung gets the 3rd floor, and one part’s covered and the other is like a car balcony so when he finishes?? you could see that sunlight hitting the custom coat he did on your car

either kim kradle is so good, the placement and marketing are perfect, or the owners are just sO attractive and unparalled as to why so many people avail their services and most go through all three levels

maybe the formula is all three of those variables

you came home without knowing a sINGLE thing and being alone in your apartment is appreciated but it gets eerie and so isolating

and you called namjoon late into the night because he always knows what to say and you ended up having more than what you hoped for

the only three people in kim kradle that wear overalls are jin, namjoon, and taehyung themselves

and it’s to kinda highlight the fact that they’re the owners and the heads of their sections

the rest wear boiler-style like suits 

all their uniforms are cute

jin is in charge of the color and there are actually multiple ones!! a pale pink to a nice lavender and a dark navy blue!! the first two are kinda impractical because it’s impossible to not get dirty in this job but they ARE adorable and stylish though

namjoon pushed for this uniform and so he really searched and handpicked fabrics that won’t be tOO hot and in which u could actively move in them

but sometimes there are tasks in which involve the straps for the overalls sliding down so tHE next big thing????

hi, so this is a very long message (apologies!) but i felt i needed to insert some somewhat depressing context.

they definitely should have worded that better but... as a woman who's been a fan of f1 since i was a kid, they're not wrong.

by comparison, for the demographic of who's watching f1 races, there is a much larger number of boys/men watching than girls/women.

yes, the female audience has increased in recent years as liberty media have moved away from the more "macho" stereotype that bernie ecclestone instilled in the sport, but there are still overhangs on that with the current audience.

say it's still a 70/30 split between boys/girls watching f1 who are young enough to get into the karting scene at the right age, and *then* have the resources to compete properly all the way up, the numbers diminish rapidly. to then find a driver with enough talent to win championship after championship up the junior ladder, or to come damn close and display some amazing speed, whittles the numbers down even more. then there's the circumstances of the current f1 grid, and the lack of available seats.

no one from the current f2 grid is looking likely to get into f1 this year. de vries didn't manage it even though he won the series. often it's only the top two/three that are even considered for an f1 seat, and that must be achieved within 2 years for a "good" reputation on the cv. unless they have massive backing, like m*zepin, and there's a team that needs the money enough, anything lower isn't seen as "good enough" for f1.

the pool of talent to pick female drivers from is not nearly as large as that of the male pool. and thus the likelihood of striking 'gold' is less likely than it would be for boys, just because of a pure numbers game. the numbers go down for every step you take closer to the f1 grid.

then there's also the issue of "driver level". i love w series dearly, but for the f1 junior series ladder, the majority of the field is already too old to go through the f3/f2 pathway as all drivers should, and have to, before they get to f1; they'll definitely get more opportunities in wec/endurance as there's more accessibility there (look at richard mille's womens team at le mans this year! they did quite well before being punted out) but that's true for both male and female drivers.

jamie, who's now a 2x w series champion, is one of the women that we've recently seen in a competitive field alongside male drivers in the prospective field during the 2020 freca championship. she was undoubtedly in the best team on the grid, prema, and her teammates petecof, leclerc and rasmussen finished 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively, while jamie finished the season in 9th. with 80 points to their totals of 359, 343 and 343... barely a quarter of their points. 4th place was 53 points behind third, just solidifying how good prema were that year.

this doesn't take away from the fact that jamie is a talented driver, nor that she managed to finish within the top ten; but when the only somewhat reliable method of comparison and assessment is through comparing her performances to her teammates, it's clear that jamie is unfortunately not on the same level just yet. that could change, but as of now she hasn't displayed that raw talent and speed that any driver should be getting into a full time f1 seat for.

i hope she gets the chance to try again, maybe in fia formula 3 or formula 2, but right now she's the best barometer we have for the level of drivers on the w series grid as their only champion. many of them have come out from different jobs after not racing for years or had a lack of opportunity to race in other series, so the series is a good jumping off point to gain funding (a la the $500,000 cash prize for winning) and super license points (for possible fp1 outings that could make for example, jamie's work with the williams simulator more valuable to both her and the team!).

it will take many years before the prospective pool of talent is more balanced in terms of gender, and by that point we *should* see many more girls get a chance for f2/f3 and a real chance of being signed to a junior academy for a direct pathway to a race seat in formula 1 itself.

there are already more girls joining the regional f4 grids, and getting into karting, but the pathway from there to f1 is at least 5-6 years. many of them won't be talented enough to win the championships they need to get to f1, like the majority of the boys competing in the same series.

with any luck, and further work to get even more young girls watching f1/motorsport, and on the karting track to junior formulae, we should start seeing better representation.

but there's a way to go yet. w series is a spec series just below f4 in terms of the car and engine, but for those women to get opportunities like f3 and lmp2 wec testing we'll be seeing more women in mainstream motorsport, *and* doing well in the coming years. it'll take longer for f1, as it always seems to, but it should, and will, happen.

Want to preface this by saying that I'm a very straightforward person, so I'm not trying to be bitchy or come across rude, I'm just stating my opinion on things matter-of-factly, but I respect that you have your own opinion even if I do disagree.

To start off, why should a particular demographic determine whether or not women can race? You can't even see the drivers when they're in the cars, so as far as that goes, it seems kind of pointless for choices to be made based on audience demographics. So why should there have to be a majority women audience/or largely women audience in order for women to have a chance in the sport? Just because a small percentage of men might only want to see men drivers, that shouldn't override the opportunity for women to have a chance in the sport. Assuming you're focusing on this because it highlights the audience interest in participating in the sport, 30% of an audience isn't 0%. It's still a large enough number for there to be a quite a few people to be interested. And let's not forget all of the leagues throughout the world women are currently participating in...there's a large enough pool of women drivers who would want to participate and with the right training and access to opportunities, could do it.

You said there's essentially a lack of talent with the resources to get to F1...yet acknowledge there are currently a lack of seats available due to drivers with the talent and financial backing to be there...so which is it? It can't be both. Drivers from other leagues weren't turned away because they weren't talented enough, they were turned away because the current teams (with the horrible exception of Haas and M*zepin, who should've been switched out imo) all have a driver lineup that performs to their liking, who they think will continue to bring in results. The current grid is all phenomenally talented, in many case despite cars that lack in performance. There were teams who switched drivers of course, but that happens all the time and I wouldn't really count it as teams bringing in new drivers because they're already actively in the sport.

At the end of the day, it doesn't matter which pool of talent is larger. There are girls and women who would love the opportunity to make a career in F1 as a driver. They would be willing to put in the work to hone their talent and be at the top of their game. I said this earlier in another response, but boys and men who are in karting/a different racing league do not have some sort of innate talent that is unachievable by the girls and women. The boys and men have more opportunities to improve their skill, which is the root of the issue. But saying there aren't any women who could currently compete? Nonsense. Unless you've seen every single girl and woman who could be an F1 driver and been able to compare their stats in an F1 car to the starts of current men drivers, that assumption falls flat. It's not a measurable statistic without real data.

9th place is still a hell of an accomplishment. Again, it has to be considered what opportunities she had in comparison to her competitors. It has nothing to do with her innate talent as a driver vs. theirs.

I just think saying there aren't enough talented girl and women drivers out there for there to be a single woman driver in F1 is a bad take and I do not agree with it at all. As I've said, I do think there's a power imbalance regarding available opportunities but...the word talent needs to stop being thrown around with the implications that women drivers aren't as good as men. I have no doubt there are plenty of women drivers who are talented enough to compete with at least a handful of drivers on the current grid, they've just never been given the opportunities (or the car) to compete within that environment and hone their skill to the extent it would need to be.

Here's my essay - because Sebastian Vettel deserves better...❤

Now I like to think I'm not a person who tries to embellish things and overreact when things are not right. I also keep to what I know, keep as factual as possible and I always make sure there is substance - that there is a reliable source to back up what I say.

Sebastian Vettel has been put under the microscope for years now and this season, even more than ever. The media and social media have been really going for it. They have a tendency of being very harsh and critical, based on his performance and from what they take from what is said about him from the people who know him best. However, it is almost never actual fact. They are taking what they hear and see and distorting it into what they want us to hear. They splice official statements from Ferrari, (which we know that Ferrari never give away much information anyway) so it suits the media's unfounded and untruthful articles. This allows for speculation, rumours, untruths, hate and trust and belief in the man, which has a major impact on his status and reputation, not only as a driver but as a person too. We rely on our papers and online media to inform us and give us reliable information but sadly, when it comes to Sebastian, it's normally giving him a dressing down, even when he's performed. Negativity seems to be the weapon of choice.

I remember when he first came to F1, they sung his praises. They would ask who this new kid was, who would shake hands with everyone he came into contact with - even the sound guy holding the boom for a TV interview. The guy was liked. He showed he had talent and a personality. He would put in the results in his first full season in F1 in 2008. He then introduced us all to his trademark finger as he made his mark by securing his maiden pole position and victory at Monza for a team that was midfield and hasn't had another win since. For a driver to do that in his career and then go on to be one of the most successful drivers in the history of the sport is very rare. Most drivers are in a top team before they make their mark. Vettel was the exception. He bucked the trend. This bode well for him as he joined an up and coming top team in the shape of Red Bull, in 2009, with him winning their maiden victory in China, only having raced 3 races with them and beating his well established team mate Mark Webber, who had already spent 2 full seasons with them. In fact it would take another victory from Vettel at Silverstone before Webber finally clinched maiden win at the Nürburgring. That's some achievement for somebody so young and so new to the sport. And he wouldn't be very far behind the runaway winner of the championship in 2009, winning again in Abu Dhabi and securing podium finishes and good points. The guy had talent and wasn't about to give up. So before the real success came to him he was stamping his authority, this guy meant business and he wasn't planning on going anywhere but up.

So he has already made an impression not only on himself but his teams, the F1 circus, the media and the fans and all in the space of 2 and a bit seasons. He caught the attention of the F1 world and in the most positive and captivating way because not only could this boy race, he was a thoroughly nice bloke to boot. That in itself was a recipe for success.

Then in 2010 his real success would start with a drivers world championship winging its way to him at the last gasp. He had competition too with at least another 4 drivers vying for the title until a few races before the end. And wasn't even one of the favourites at all throughout the season, even when it reached the last race, he was 3rd in line most likely to be champion statistically. And he never lead the championship either. 2011 he completely dominatated even outscoring his team mate Webber by well over 100 points, who came 3rd to Jenson Button who was also trounced by over 100 points in his McLaren. 2012 like 2010 saw a very interesting season but was mainly Ferrari's Fernando Alonso's to lose. Sebastian at one point being over 40 points adrift of Alonso with only half a dozen or so races left. He powered back though to make it the most exciting end to the season. And 2013 was just another show of his power and dominance winning 13 out of 19 races and again trouncing his team mate having almost double the amount of points 397 to 199. No one can deny this man of his achievements. He completely annihilated his team mate. That's not luck.

With the recent scrutiny over Vettel's performance and questioning whether he is now just a shell of his former self is being bounced back and forth across the F1 community. When it looks that way, things aren't always necessarily as they may seem. People may say he's lost it, he's being outwitted by a better driver in Hamilton and being shown up by his much younger new team mate Leclerc. When this may have some basis of truth behind it, I don't think these are the real reasons for his supposed demise.

2014 was a tough season for him. The new hybrid era had arrived, which was harnessed by Mercedes, he had a new team mate in Daniel Ricciardo and I'm almost certain that the tragic skiing accident involving Michael Schumacher had a massive impact on his season. He didn't win a single race that year. His worst season victory wise (not including his half season in 2007.) 2015 saw him make his move to the team of his dreams and it showed everyone that he hadn't lost his ability, winning 3 races for Ferrari. 2016 saw no wins again for the German but Ferrari as a team never won a race, they just didn't have the car and were beaten, not only by Mercedes but Red Bull too. Ferrari seemed to get some order back in the team in 2017, with Vettel winning 5 races for them. With a difficult team to beat in Mercedes, Vettel was now the first driver to split the Mercedes drivers for the championship, a task that was seeming almost impossible. And in 2018, again, Vettel came second in the drivers championship to Hamilton, with 4 race wins.

I think, regardless of what happened in between with mistakes and errors, both from himself and the team, that the facts speak for themself. Also, I stand firm in my belief that since the hybrid era, that unless you are in a Mercedes, it is practically impossible to win a world championship. But Seb has been the only one so far that has given it the fight and came second on 2 occasions. Yet he is the one who heavily criticised for trying.

As for the errors that he and the team have made over the years... it's very easy for a rival or an onlooker to criticise and say, well you should have done it this way or that way. When you are fighting for a win and ultimately a championship, you are relying on 3 main factors: yourself, your team and your car. If these 3 things become unhinged even in the slightest way, it becomes an uphill battle to get the results you desire. And when the team that you are trying to beat hasn't been beaten in 5 and a bit years, the pressure of winning becomes even greater. If we take a look at the last few years we can see that Seb has worked extremely hard to get the results that he has. He's had to push, he's had to take risks, he's made the car do things he probably shouldn't have been able to do, it's the only way he he can try to beat the Mercedes. But unfortunately pushing hard and giving it your all takes it's toll on you mentally and physically. There is only so much catching up you can do before you begin to wonder if you will ever see the end. It's a bit like those dreams where you are running but you appear to be getting nowhere. That is what it's been like for Vettel. It's not for a want of trying, it's just completely impossible to get anywhere when the team you are trying to beat is pretty much perfect. That's why you see him make mistakes; spinning, going off the track, brushing with other cars, crashing with other cars. Because he's having to push the car to the limit - push himself to the limit. Mercedes have a comfortable cushion which allows them to breeze a race. They can get their front row lockout and then sail off into the distance with engine management. The only pressure they're put under is from their team mates. And even then its not like they have to worry about it. If you have the machinery underneath you, that's half the battle. When you know your car is going to be fast and that you can conserve your engine and turn it up when it's needed, all you need to do then is keep the car on the track. That's the only pressure you are put under. Unlike with the rest of the field, where they have to fight for positions and push their cars to the limit for even a glimmer of hope of getting a good result.

So, for all the scrutiny and criticism that Vettel gets, if we take a step back and actually look at what he's up against, he's the only one currently that's showing a fight and trying to get more than the maximum out of himself, the car and the team. He is not just the hunter, he is the hunted. When he is desperately trying to catch a team which is untouchable, he has the added pressure of keeping a team like Red Bull behind him. He has it from all angles. There is only so much though that a driver can keep doing to try and beat the the most successful team on the grid. When you think you have caught up, they suddenly turn it up a notch. It's a common case of, you're damned if you do and damned if you don't. This must be incredibly frustrating when you are within touching distance but it slips out of your grasp at the last - every time. The mental effects this must have on a driver must be soul destroying, when you know you are doing everything in your power, putting your all into it and getting more than what you should out of the car, only to be outrun and then made to look like an amateur because you've actually had to race the car. It is very unfair to say that Vettel has been making all these mistakes and that he must be losing his touch. If he had the car under him, I don't even doubt for a second that I'd be writing this.

And of course because he is the only one who seems to be giving it 100% every race, sometimes it doesn't work out. We used to see errors right, left and centre from every driver up and down the field because they were at the limit pre-refuelling/pre-drs/pre-hybrid/pre-multiple compound tyres etc. And because of tyre/fuel/engine management, it's sad to say they are not pushing the cars like they used to. However drivers like Vettel and Hamilton, who are now classed as the veterans of the sport remember the times of pushing to the limit. These cars don't allow the same kind of racing anymore. So whoever has the car which has the best aero package, is the one who can afford to turn the engine down and then up when needed. And if the aero is good it looks after the tyres. These are 2 key ingredients that Mercedes have harnessed - the hybrid era and a convenient private test with Pirelli, all they needed was to shape their car around it and hey presto, there's nothing any other team can do. That's the biggest advantage of all.

So to sum up (for now) Sebastian Vettel still has it. He hasn't lost it. He never will. I believe it's the fact that no matter how hard he tries he will never be able to beat the car that has been moulded to dominate the hybrid era. And I believe that's why he seems so downbeat, he's not become undone. There's only so much chasing and fighting you can do, when all you seem to do is hit your head off a brick wall - that's got to be just a little bit soul destroying. If he wasn't great he'd be nowhere - but he's always there!

Quick Trimberly story.

Big day for Kimberly means Trini being trapped on her pit crew.

Both girls share the passion for F1 racing yet, both of them in different ways. Kim is the team’s star driver. She loves the adrenaline and the risks. Being a single child, she gets what she wants. Always. On the other hand, Trini prefers the safety and the calmness that being behind the scenes provides her.

“Is it ready?” Kimberly asks Trini, crossing her arms over her chest.

“Almost” she answers without looking at her. “Can you turn it on?”

“Sure thing” Kim turns on the engine, making the car come to life. “Oh yes, baby! That’s how I like it” Trini smiles widely at the sound that inundates the room. Kim would be lying if she denied the fact that Trini’s  words didn’t have an effect on her. “Seems like you have to win that trophy” Trini cleaned her hands on her overall to close the hood. “It’ll make your dad happy”

“Don’t remind me. He’s been a pain in the ass lately” Kimberly followed her to the group. “Thanks for checking on it at the last minute”

“No problem, princess” Trini enjoys calling her that. “Hey, Ryan! Car’s ready. Take it to the track” Trini threw the keys as she exited the garage.

She loved those moments when she could tease Kimberly as if it was nothing. Being the daughter of Kim’s dad’s best friend meant knowing her since they were babies. They used to be really close as kids, she even enjoyed Kimberly’s company. But life happens and so does shit.

“You know she keeps looking at you like a lion stares at its prey. Right?” Zack said as Trini sits beside him.

“Keep talking bullshit and I’ll attack you like a lion attack its prey” she replied rolling her eyes.

“You know I’m just being honest” Zack shrugged, watching as Kimberly walked toward them.

“You all came” she smiles fondly at her friends.

“I wouldn't dream of skipping one of your most important races” Jason ruffled her hair, making her laugh.

“You’ll do it great, Kimmy!” Billy smiled at her.

“Thanks,  buddy” She sighed as the speakers came to life, announcing the opening ceremony. “Hope your magic works,” she said looking at Trini with a  soft smile.

“If it doesn’t, I’ll punch myself” she joked as she started to walk to the pits, leaving their friends on the benches.

It  was the 50th lap when Kimberly parked in her pit box, jumping from the car as the team started to work on it for the second time. Anxiety running through her body, as the other pilots kept driving. Just 5 more laps and the race will be over, just...

“Keep calm, darling. You’ll make it” Trini’s father wrapped an arm around her shoulders. “Believe in yourself”

“Thank you, Robert” Kim smiled at him, his eyes filled with support. “Trini is doing great. You should give her more credit.” this time, she looks at  Trini, who was working on her car with the rest of the team. A frown on her face and her tongue showing between the teeth. Her hands itched at the need of rubbing Trini’s forehead to stop her from frowning.

“I know she is, kiddo. She’s learned from the best.” A smirk on his face, making Kim laugh.

“Kim, It’s ready” Trini jogged toward them, a confident look in her eyes. “Go kick some ass, princess”

“I always do” Kimberly winked at her before returning to the tracks.

“She cares for you” Trini’s dad spoke the words. “I still don’t get why you keep pushing her away”

“We’re  not the same kids anymore. Life happens and I’m comfortable with this” she sighed, calming her heart from what Kimberly does to her. “Now let's  go to the front”

Her stress levels were increasing notably as the flag waved, signaling the last lap. All she could think about was Trini. The girl was her biggest fan, even if she didn’t show it.  Before they fell apart, Trini had told her everything. Kimberly missed the friendship between them. There wasn’t a single moment where she stopped wondering what had happened between them that Trini kept pushing her away.

Charles passed her in a blink, bringing her back to the reality. She has to get back to the first place, no matter what. She speeds up with a few shifts on the gearbox. Determination running inside her as she gets Charles’ side, she gives him a quick smirk before she works her magic.

Trini  can feel her heart threatening to leave her chest as Kimberly positions herself back in the first place. Just a few more meters and she’ll make her dream come true. The same dream Kimberly has talked about since she was 13 when Trini’s dad brought them both to their first F1 race. The girl fell in love with the speed the cars move. She’s always been the rebel of them both and the one who always made Trini fear for her  life as she couldn’t resist her friend’s fun ideas.

The  loud cheers around her made her jump, looking to the track in the exact  moment as Kimberly took off her helmet. Trini wanted to punch herself  for the image forming in her head. Kimberly’s short locks wild as she shakes her head, the sweat drops on her forehead shine bright against  her tan skin thanks to the sunlight. Trini’s mouth goes dry as she observes Kimberly wink at her at the time she let the top of her racing suit fall down to her waist, revealing a pink sports bra.  She wished to be straight right then and there. Maybe that way, the heat   between her legs would disappear.

“We did it!”  Ryan had ruffled Trini’s hair, making her blink twice to stop her from  wondering how nice it would be to have Kimberly in her bed.

“We can breathe now” she sighed as Kimberly’s dad made her way to her, hugging her with a proud smile on his lips.

“It’s  good to know that” Ryan joked, squeezing her shoulder before making his  way to the team.

They all cheering and celebrating the victory. Trini, for her part, decided to go with her friends, she couldn’t breathe with the image of Kimberly almost topless.

“Feeling  proud?” Jason welcomed her with a big smile. He knew the pressure Trini feels every time she is in charge of Kimberly’s car.

“More like calm. I can live without my dad breathing down my neck” she sighed at the fact of it. “At least for now”

“Oh come on, you’re great with cars. You’ll be my mechanic when I finally get mine” He assured her.

“I don’t think it’ll happen. I’m planning to quit it” Trini dropped the bomb.

“What? You can’t quit! You love being around cars and working on them” Zack said, clearly shocked.

“My  gay levels are on top every time I stare at her. I have enough sharing  time with her when we hang out. I can’t fight it anymore” she sighed, sitting on the benches beside Billy.

“Don’t fight it, then. Ask her out” Billy grabbed her hand, squeezing it. “It’s time for you to find out how she feels.”

“I’ve been running from her for 3 years now. I can’t just tell her that I like her. It would be...”

“It would be, what?” a voice behind her made Trini freeze. Panic taking over her whole body.

“HERE’S OUR CHAMPION!” Zack greeted her with a huge smile. “You gave us a hard time back there”

“I’m  sorry. I had to keep it down until the last minute” Kimberly joked. “I  can’t believe I won.” she sighed, a smile on her face.

“Believe  it. It’s real” Jason squeezed her shoulder. “We’re going with the guys.  See you later.” Trini hated them for leaving her alone.

“So...  You like me, huh?” Kim sat beside her. “Is that why you keep pushing me  away?” Trini sensed the hurt in her voice, her heart aching.

“Look,”  Trini closed her eyes, trying to order her mind. “I’m sorry this happened. I was alright and suddenly, you got under my skin and before I could stop it, it already happened. You can hate me all you want,  I’ll...”

“I could never hate you, Trin” Kimberly took her hand  between her own. “You did nothing for me to hate you. I wish you could’ve told me this before, though”

“What for? So you can make fun of me?” she asked, her eyes fixed on Kimberly’s, trying to find the truth in them.

“I  wish you could see yourself the way I see you” Kimberly’s hand went to Trini’s cheek, cupping it while her thumb caressing the skin. “You mean so much more than you think, to me. You’re the best girl I could ever hope to meet.” Trini let herself enjoy the moment before it ended. “I couldn’t  live with myself if I hated you”

“Why are you doing this?” Trini pushed her face away from Kimberly’s hand. “Why are you saying sweet nothings to me if you’ll reject me?”

“Who said I’ll reject  you?” a frown on her face. “God, Trini. I love you! Why can’t you see  it? I’ve been in love with you for the last year”

“For real?” Trini voice small as her eyes met Kimberly’s.

“For someone who is surrounded by guys, you’re pretty slow” Kimberly teased before leaning in and kissing her softly. Lips dancing with shyness.

“You’re not so bad at compliments, princess” Trini smiled into the kiss. Her tongue rubbing Kim’s lower lip, asking her for permission.

“Shut up, loser” Kim accepted her request, her hands landing on Trini’s lower back.
