I was thinking heavily about year 6 today. Such an underrated year. All those trilogy's? Come on, guys
Council Member Flynn when I listened to it felt like it predicted quarantine. We get to see Tamika's badass city running, a Janice side story, and the most slice-of-life facts about NV like how Stranger Things is a documentary series
eGemony. I remember nothing besides the beginning which is always amazing. "My children think I'm the real Hugh Jackman." "Your children are wrong."
A STORY OF LOVE AND HORROR. I've been telling people about this trilogy all day. Do y'all remember it??? Go listen to it again. Cry.
A Door Ajar, is also kind of forgettable. Cecil and Carlos get couples counseling? Sorry, I know the phantom ocean more from Truth and Other Misconceptions
A. MATTER. OF. BLOOD. God I wish I remembered how it went but I just know it was intense as hell. Could be important to current NV as well
And the other episodes? Citizen Spotlight where Cecil basically fucks over someone in witness protection. Niecelet being the best guest written episode. ALL SMILES' EVE??
This has been a PSA, relisten to year 6

what op said about Carlos falling in love and making Night Vale his home reminds me a little bit of how the eGemony (is that how it's spelled?) trilogy was resolved (i listened to that one again recently and it made me think about how the interlopers absorbed the spirit of the town and became a part of it... And then Hugh Jackman fell in love and his plans changed at least...
i think the two ways to get rid of Lubelle are eother to make her care about Night Vale in that same way OR to just... ignore her. she can't explain anything away if no one's listening to her anymore. It would at least make her less powerful...
so we know carlos wasn't originally intended to be cecil's love interest. in an interview in 2018 cecil baldwin said, "He was meant almost as a foil to Night Vale; he was the outsider who wanted to quantify everything in this town where nothing is quantifiable." (and i'm pretty sure this has been repeated by finknor too iirc) carlos. was an outsider who wanted to quantify everything in a town where nothing is quantifiable at first. kinda... familiar sounding. maybe.
the only thing that changed this was cecil. falling in love, finding community, starting a family- without cecil, would carlos be another lubelle? obviously he has some core personality differences to lubelle, but without cecil vouching for him, framing his as a good interloper, immediately telling night vale that carlos was a positive addition to their community, who's to say how carlos would react to night vale?
what if he was instead greeted with hostility, with distrust? what if cecil hadn't been so enraptured by him and told the town the scientist was dangerous? would he have dug in his heels and sought for answers more aggressively? would he try to leave (he would probably try to leave...)? would night vale let him leave after luring him there? would he decide to stay because he needs answers? would he find himself making decisions like lubelle out of desperation? would he think of his mentor/coworker's(?) ruthless persistence and try to call upon that when he realizes he's stuck? just- who would carlos have become without cecil's immediate intervention? would he be threatened or would he become a threat?

In case you can’t read it, the mp3 file is named “eGemony, Part 3: “Love Among Other Things Is All You Need”. Last minute titling dispute?
ETA: Aha, so now we know. I thought it was an alternate title.
