I just want to say it's been delightful watching you get into One Piece. It's been one of my main fandoms for years, but most of the people I was following who posted about it moved on to other things and I didn't have the energy to try to find new ones, so my dash has been pretty empty of it and I mostly just kept up with the anime/manga and not much else. Your enthusiasm for it, and all the art you've been posting and reblogging, has been a highlight of my days. I have a One Piece fanfic I've been trying to finish for years, and I've felt more like writing it in the past week or so than I have in a very long time (haven't actually managed it yet, but maybe soon, I hope). Part of me always worries, but it IS my blog and I enjoy slapping a bunch of funny pirates on my metaphorical fridge, glad you’re getting a kick out of it too! I just hit the Sabody arc too and spotted Law for the first time! Also the intro to Celestial Dragons and slave trade is so. Man. This is VILE. The extent of horrors the Government will look away from because they’re Celestial Dragons doing the horrors. AUGH. dillon , texas born & raised . on the outskirts of town is a ranch that is enough to house the beckham family: mom, dad, and all eight beckham children . beck is the second oldest , with one older sister , four younger sisters , and two younger brothers . . . not necessarily in that order . 

mother , sophia mattheson - beckham is a lawyer based in austin working with the ACLU , and father , michael beckham has a small private practice in dillon working as a pediatrician . they weren’t home often , but when they were , they spent as much time with the kiddos as possible . it’s just . . . they were so rarely home that it really didn’t matter. 

with the beckham name, though, comes the pressure to be SOMETHING GREAT , and that’s something that’s been a part of beck’s life since . . . he can remember . little league & kindergarten grades were always taken a little too seriously , and it didn’t help that his older sister was a shining example of perfection . 

growing up it was hard not to like him. he was quiet for the most part , but goofy when he wasn’t . there was a little extra charm about him that just gave him an all around magnetic pull . kids wanted to be his friend and he wanted to be theirs . he fit in , but around home , he was the odd man out . beck was always a little more interested in sports rather than math or music rather than reading . it wasn’t to say he wasn’t smart , it just kind of –– bored him?? where his family was v

there was give and take with beck–– the golden boy of dillon but the black sheep of the family . he could play hockey if he kept his grades up. he could take guitar if he was also on student government and model u.n.. his parents would applaud him on his grades but never cared to hear him play; they’d show up for debates but rarely ever saw a hockey game. it was touch and go, his relationship with them, and it still is.

DESPITE IT ALL though, you wouldn’t catch him complaining. he bore the crown of homecoming king his senior year and never went to a dance without a date. teachers loved him, so did his coaches. he found a best friend in one cameron sloane –– ( because of course he did ) –– when the sloanes moved to dillon , and they were an unstoppable kind’a duo on and off the ice.

when it came time to pick a college, he really . . . had his pick of the lot. coulda gone anywhere, but there were roughly six reasons , all with the same last name , that kept him close to home. his parents even agreed that if he went in as pre-med, they would pay for the whole thing . . . and even make time to watch him play hockey. 

things were good for a long while, until they weren’t. you can usually see the stars on the outskirts of dillon, but one night, his sophomore year, you couldn’t. storm clouds covered ‘em up, and he tried his damndest to get cameron to stick around a celebratory party until it passed, but sloanes are stubborn and there was no changing his mind. 

cam passing away was like losing a brother, and he spent countless hours pacing in a hospital waiting room . . . hoping for good news and never getting it. beck had never known loss like that, and it knocked him into a bit of a tailspin . he quit hockey and didn’t register for school the next year . he spent a lot of time at a family residence in austin and even more time drinking . for the most part . . . he kind of DISAPPEARED , losing himself in the process for a good nine months.

they say it takes a village to raise a kid, and it took a village to drag this one out of a spiral. his parents. his siblings. his friends. and eventually . . .  dillon’s football coaching staff. a loud knock on the door from coach buchanan and a swift kick in the ass from coach sloane, a man who knew the kid almost as well as he’d known his own son. come work for us, they told him . . . and it was a way to get him back on track under a watchful eye that. wasn’t quite as critical as his parents

so that’s where we are now . . . back at dillon, a year behind, and working with both the football and cheerleading team as a physical trainer, playing a heavy hand in making sure both teams are the best conditioned in the state of texas. his grades are looking up, and he’s still on the fast track for med school, much to his –– and his parents’s –– surprise. 

the beckhams don’t talk about his little stint of a spiral. no one in dillon does . . . unless in tones of hushed whispers alongside judgmental looks. beck doesn’t mind it too much ,though . . . even takes it as a challenge

ever since he can remember, there’s been pressure on this kid to be something great . . . so he feels like if he has the capability to do something, he has to do it. . . there’s no choice in the matter. a lot of this stems. from his parents, but he’s also really just . . . overly critical of himself sometimes

boy is a fucking PARADOX okay bc sometimes . . . . with the way he talks. . . . he accidentally puts his damn foot in his mouth . he’s smart so occasionally comes off as condescending , but he’s . . . incredible in conversation with people he needs to impress because he’s hella charming

that said... this quote is REALLY important and REALLY summative of beck: “Gansey had always felt as if there were two of him: the Gansey who was in control, able to handle any situation, able to talk to anyone, and then, the other, more fragile Gansey, strung out and unsure, embarrassingly earnest, driven by naive longing.” –– let’s dive into that!! when he feels like he’s got a sense of control of the things around him, when he’s in his element or in his comfort zone, when he’s feeling confident , the boy is a force. he can talk you and anyone else out of any situation, and he has. he can make friends with anyone put in front of him, and he has. when beck is ON . . . he is on . . . but it’s a bit surface level because when he’s not wearing the crown of GOLDEN BOY and he’s . . . vulnerable . . . or unsure . . . or stressed . . . he tends to put that foot of his in his mouth and spit. out whatever it is he’s thinking. he’s honest to a fault in this sense, and he’s hopeful beyond compare. 

an introvert. . . . can CHARM u but doesn’t want to because honestly that is so draining and he’d much rather be at home. the popular type but only has a few friends that are really really close to him

You’re probably someone who knows but for anyone who doesn’t, I’m not a foot fetishist, I just, recently had someone ask me in a comment if my Nate has a foot fetish, because of this passage:

and then I realized that 12 out of my 30 fics have passages worth pointing out, excluding honorable mentions in even more of my fics. And I donned my ‘conspiracy theory’ tinfoil hat in the discord to expose myself and I was shakkinggggg dghkgglgj lmfaoooo. But as people there kept pointing out, the passages are all soft and intimate. It’s a metaphor. Being able to see someone who seems like a tight-laced badass to everyone else, dressed down in comfy PJs and bare feet (re: Nate, Genos) is a visual metaphor for domestic intimacy achieved. And when your fav has Very Sensitive Skin but they are also Not Dating Yet, a ‘platonic foot rub’ is a great way to have the best of both worlds while still building up the romantic and sexual tension because I need that prolonged drama fam.

2017

1. What did you do in 2017 that you’d never done before? i’ll try to do this chronologically again: so at the beginning of january one of my best friends left to study abroad in rome which was sad and i missed her a lot. i saw rory scovel do stand up. i took an animation class which was fun for the first few weeks until i failed it lmao. actually my classes from jan to march did not go so well tbh but whatever i made it through. my sister came to visit me the weekend before st paddys day which was super fun and then we saw panic which was soooooooo fuckin rad i love them still wow! i went home for spring break and visited a local winery w my dad which was a lot of fun and then a week later uhhh me and @carrot-gallery became gfs!!! and my whole frickin life changed bc i love her so much wow!! but then a week after that i turned 22 and spent my birthday alone! which i tried to pretend didnt make me sad but by the end of the day i was very sad about it and thats when my sweet gf called me to sing happy birthday and i sobbed on my couch and ill never forget that!!! so okay then spring quarter classes started and i was a part of depaul’s visiting artist series which was super cool... i met a lot of new awesome people (both at depaul and the industry ppl that were our guests!) and made some great friends in that class! i was a house manager and camera op which was super fun. i went to a screening of my fave professor’s short film which was also rad. i saw a ghost story at the chicago critics film festival, which was amazing. i saw idiocracy in 35mm and then mike judge did a q&a! the very next day i was house manager for depaul’s student film festival at the music box! i saw chris gethard do a live recording of beautiful/anonymous and then also do some standup, that was awesome. i saw day wave live!!! amazing! i spent an entire dystopian day dealing with megabus. that was hell! i sat at an outdoor amphitheater and even tho i couldnt really see him i got to listen to seu jorge sing david bowie covers and life was magical for a few hours. my sisters came up to visit me and we saw aladdin the musical and had our minds blown, it was soooo fun! i went to the chicago pride parade for the very first time but i went by myself and at one point i was sitting on the curb just crying! not a high point but still memorable. i won a ticket to an advanced screening of the big sick where kumail & emily were there to do a q&a after the movie.... had a fuckin blast OBVIOUSLY and then saw the movie 9 other times in various theatres. i also made it into a commercial FOR the movie i just loved it that much lmao! i moved into a new (and my current) apartment! lorde released melodrama and fucking murdered me in my own home. otherwise i had a pretty uneventful but anxiety filled summer bc of financial aid stuff so that really sucked. i saw good time w taylor and the safdie brothers were there to do a q&a and they were such interesting guys i could listen to them talk for hours honestly. my mom and sisters came up to visit me and we took our mom to her very first cubs game which was sooo so much fun and they won that day too!! it was awesome and we had a great time :) watched the eclipse (or tried to anyway!!) fall quarter classes started and i honestly kicked ass at them, i got on the deans list (i almost typed honor roll lmao i mean its basically the same) i hung out with ari again which was cool!! we went to the aquarium! me and taylor saw beach fossils which was honestly the most buckwild concert ive ever been to i think, it was good shit. i got jobs at AMC (which i have since quit lmao) and starbucks and left my job at the paint place which was bittersweet! me and taylor saw mbmbam live!!! so fun!! and we watched trolls that night and goofed on it so hard!! i went home for thanksgiving and found out my big sister is gonna have a baby this year!! :D i saw mike birbiglia do stand up! which was soooo incredible of course (except i felt bad bc my mom was supposed to come w me but she couldnt go! so i brought taylor lol) UMMMMM MY DAM GIRLFRIEND CAME TO CHICAGO TO VISIT ME AND STAYED FOR A WHOLE DANG WEEK AND IT WAS THE BEST THING EVER SHE MAKES ME SO HAPPY WE HAD SO MUCH FUN AND I MISS HAVING HER RIGHT NEXT TO ME EVERY SINGLE GOSH DANG DAY <3 ;_____; and that was my year!!

2. Did you keep your new year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year? last year i said id like to read at least one book each month and watch at least 100 movies - i did neither! im keeping the movie resolution though bc cmon 100 movies should be EASY for a film major wtf am i doing!

Who the heck is my muse anyway:

A blast from the past and a culmination of everyone’s favorite        plus plenty of lesser known , and modern        glitches from the Pokemon games , all wrapped into one neat , almost eldritch-y package and labeled ‘MissingNo.’. Essentially the personification ( /pokefication ) of everything that’s ever gone wrong with your save file . If you want to go a bit deeper into how their existence is placed into actual lore?  They are the rather aloof and comparatively freshly-aware and weak antithesis of Arceus ( hence the super serious nickname ‘Glitch Satan’ ). It’s not a ‘balance’ thing , they haven’t been poking holes in reality for a super long time in the name of natural order or anything of that sort . They’re just a glitch in the whole dealio . tldr; Arceus created the universe? MissingNo. messes their creation up and coughs inconspicuously .

- They basically embody the ‘popular image’ of androgyny . - They are very expressive with their face . Maybe too expressive , it can make them appear disingenuous . Almost like they have an outsider’s knowledge of how society expects to communicate or something . - Try not to leave electronics around them ? - Or anything really . But especially electronics . - Oh , and Pokemon eggs . Keep those away too unless you want them to turn into a booster pack of possibilities . - They are fascinated by very objective ideals ( the ideas of fate , miracles , justice , revenge , etc. ) and use them in conversation as though they aren’t weirdly heavy concepts to invoke out of nowhere . - They can create temporary Pokemon in order to pose as a trainer , but they get pretty glitchy and unstable after a short while . You probably won’t ever find them with the same team twice . - Really it’s difficult to list all the ways they can draw attention to themselves .  Sometimes if they aren’t paying enough attention reality just starts to get weird around them in general . - Flawless hair tho . Plus point .

What they’ve been up to recently:

- Main verse has them wandering about , sticking their nose into other people’s mostly-mundane business , often making it slightly less mundane . They try not to do anything too dramatic anymore , because it makes a certain Space & Time duo grumpy . They blend in pretty well as a human if they don’t draw a spotlight on themselves for too long though , given that they have to do the work if they want to keep their current form alive . - Alternate verses ( Pokemon setting or otherwise ) can see them almost anywhere with any great number of reasons . At their core , they simply follow the path that seems most interesting . ‘ Interesting ’ comes in all shapes and sizes and also moral compunctions . Since killing MissingNo. essentially just counts as pressing a soft reset button , there’s hardly a limitation on where or when they might show up , and what form they might take when they do .

Where to find them:

- Often in places with lots of people and Pokemon , but sorta off to the side . They observe , sometimes mess with things a bit , and currently enjoy simply playing at being human to the extent that they are able because it leads to interesting enough encounters all on its own . - People that catch their attention will often get to suffer being drawn into a sudden ( often bizarre ) discussion as though they’d been holding a conversation already for hours . - So basically MissingNo. will often find you .

Current plans:

- Just some vague ideas for AUs. Nothing really set in stone for now \(’o’)/ I’m mostly just focused on establishing their character with enough clarity to make them engaging and fun to interact with !

Desired interactions:

- All of them. - But I’d really love to see someone  essentially take them under their wing in a positive way , and help fill in the gaps of their aimlessness . Push them a little out of the ‘chaotic neutral’ territory and into the ‘chaotic good’ one maybe lol. They are aloof and don’t really emotionally invest in individual people , but that’s just because they haven’t had a reason to yet ! - And on the other end of things, I’d love to see them end up with the wrong crowd as well . They might not be easy to completely control , but they are not especially difficult to influence with the premise of entertainment . And they have the potential to be very destructive . I can see them being an appealing - albeit dangerous - tool to have at ones disposal , especially with more experience and direction .

-  Ever want to explore how your character would react when things just don’t work the way they’re supposed to ? And by things I mean time , space , and the kitchen sink ? Stop on by . - Alternatively you can give them an item and they might give you 128 back . - They’re an unstably powerful , reality-altering entity taking the form of a human being because it’s ‘fun’. Have your muse challenge them to a battle , get them both drunk at a bar , have them destroy a city for your character , let them crash your muse’s wedding , teach them to knit .  Really the world’s the limit .

- Zero is agender and entirely pronoun indifferent . While I use they/them and it/its for them most of the time, I truly and honestly do not mind if you or your character refer to them otherwise . If your muse asks , Zero will have no preference or just say what first pops up in their head ( i.e. my own whim at the time ) . - If your character is the sort to be especially in-tune with what is or isn’t ‘natural’ , or you just feel like they would see through Zero’s ‘plain old human routine’ to any degree from the get-go , don’t hesitate to make it happen ! I figure they pass okay as just an odd , somewhat eccentric character to the average person who barely spends any time with them , but that doesn’t have to be the case with your muse !  - I imagine the fact that this character is basically an OC, and a rather powerful one , can be pretty off-putting . I mean , a character that ‘glitches reality’ is obviously a pretty extreme scope of strength ( as I think makes sense for what MissingNo. and other glitches do ) , but while I’d be excited to explore that on its own , writer's perogative means the primary verse for this blog is centered around Zero’s desire to find fulfillment and where they fit in the world , not like . . . puppet string your characters for the heck of it or something . I'm very ware of the lines between having a powerful character be powerful , and god-moding someone else's roleplaying experience . So don’t be scared of interacting with them . Use their reality-breaking problem for fun ! - On that note , Zero is physically scrawny and pathetic and also not very good at Pokemon battling. Feel free to kick them in the shin and call them a nerd. - Both mun and muse are giant memes and probably will not bite.
