Do Gallifreyans have parties? It seems like most of the time that if it isn’t intellectually stimulating or relevant that it doesn’t matter to most people, so parties seem like something they wouldn’t be interested in unless it’s one where they just have a philosophical debate the whole time. If they do have parties though, when? And what happens at these parties?

Do Gallifreyans have parties?

While their idea of a party might differ from what most people are used to, they have celebrations and traditions that bring a sense of togetherness.

🎉 Otherstide

One of the biggest celebrations on Gallifrey is Otherstide, a holiday that marks a time of renewal and reflection. Gallifreyans tend to have 'work-dos' in the build-up to this holiday, which are just dinners. During it, Gallifreyans stay in their Houses, spending the evening feasting and exchanging gifts with their Cousins. The highlight of Otherstide is the 'Mystery of the New Time', a puppet show performed with massive mechanical puppets.

🍽️ Feasts and Festivals

Gallifreyans have a lot of holidays classified as Feast Days, such as the Feast of Rassilon, Rassilon's Flag Day, and Harrenenmas. These are times when Gallifreyans probably have large meals, enjoying special foods like Karmine pudding, Dactyl Eggs, Gallifreyan pizza, and the famous Flan of Omega.

Even though these celebrations seem more subdued than human parties, they allow Gallifreyans to come together, enjoy non-synthesised food, and maybe share stories or debate philosophical topics. So, in a way, their feasts could be considered a form of partying—just with a more intellectual twist.

🎓 Student Parties

It's also worth mentioning that Gallifreyan students seem to better understand what most would consider a typical party. Koschei (the Master) once threw a not-so-great end-of-term party for the Doctor, suggesting that, at least among the teenagers, there's some attempt at the kind of celebrations we're familiar with.

🎁 Name-Days

Gallifreyans don't really celebrate birthdays like humans do, but they do have Name-days. On the anniversary of a Gallifreyan's name day, there are some presents, and there might be treats or small celebrations, similar to a low-key birthday party.

So their idea of a party is a bit different. They may not be ragers, but they know how to enjoy a good feast. Gallifreyan parties are more likely to involve discussions, food, and a sense of tradition rather than wild dancing or loud music.

We have, I think, the only working steam powered apple press in the country for making apple cider and I’ve been going there regularly since I was a small child so I love going there to get cider, wine, cider donuts, and kettle corn

At Roger Williams zoo in Rhode Island they have a Jack o lantern spectacular every year so at dark they close the zoo and you walk through and look at all the different Jack o lanterns they’ve made. It’s so fun and the Jack o lanterns are AMAZING!

In my house, we have fall fun day where we drink apple wine (not Riley🤣) and carve Jack o lanterns

The first day it’s cool enough to wear my new fall boots I bought over the summer. Happens every year, I always buy new boots in July and wait patiently for that day where it’s finally cool enough to wear them 😃🧡

Thanksgiving is probably my favorite holiday. I love food and the togetherness of family without any pressure of gifts 🦃🥧🍗🍴🍽️

Top 5 Birthday Activities

Last year I gathered my friends and my siblings and we all went axe throwing! I had the best time

My husband usually takes me to a fancy dinner for my birthday. I never say no to yummy food

When I was young, I loved having roller skating parties and I haven’t done it yet but as an adult, I’d love to do it again

Eating my favorite cake is an activity right? 🤣 there’s a restaurant my bestie takes me to that has the best lemon cake I’ve ever tasted. It’s so good

And I always look forward to the handmade present my daughter makes for me, this year ahead told me she painted a picture for me. I’m excited to see it!
