The only thing that made Abe Lincoln Abe Lincoln (tm) was doing what Abe Lincoln (tm) did. The actions that he took made him a hero in history. There was nothing i ate in him that made his great, his actions did. Whatever help inate qualities may have gave him in terms of doing the actions that made him what he was could be negated by pma and doing the damn work to get yourself to where you need to be. Believing it so makes you inclined to take the actions that improve your skills and get to to the point where you can do the things it takes to be who you want to be.

I feel like we’ve become addicted to finding things wrong with what people say. Silence the critic. It’s fine. Most people have the best intentions. It’s not that serious. The group you are offended for likely aren’t mad anyway. There is way more you can do - they don’t care about picking the right term
I wanted a very simple menu that could maximize customization options in The shortest amount of time possible for a very fast paced food truck. The system allows the customers to design their own grilled cheese sandwich but ideally would save time by not requiring each guest to decide which cheese and which bread from a long line of choices.
I feel I’m so afraid of being dunning Krueger that i tell myself i am terrible at everything no matter what i actually think about my abilities. You can just say your a beginner you don’t have to say you suck. Plus thinking you suck doesn’t make you any better, honestly worse. You don’t have to rate your abilities just focus on the future, make sure your doing baby steps and make sure they are the right baby steps

I don’t think music is really something that needs to be critiqued for me ― it’s more about feeling it’s about magic and truth and light or darkness. Getting whatever needs to be out out. it all serves a purpose and is for an audience , if your not in that audience then there’s no need to comment
I have to is weird backwards idea that it’s Nobel to be like you know what I’m not good at this imma bow out. But that is so wrong you have to struggle through it. Pike how i feel like my thoughts are more concise then my writing. There’s no glory in not trying to improve that. You have to awkawardly write until you can beautifully write.

Women are Space Orcs
Alright ever one, been pretty excited to give you this one. I have a few female characters, including Sunny, that I thought deserve a little love. Plus I wanted to explore the dynamic between Sunny and other members of the crew.
Its just supposed to be a fun little adventure, so nothing philosophical or anything :)
Sunny walked beside Adam as he paced through the cargo bay checking off shipping manifests on his clipboard, checking and rechecking the equipment they would need for re-supply. They had stopped on the Tesraki home world for a much-needed rest and some recuperation. They would be here a couple days, so shore leave was in order for a night or two, a prospect the entire group was excited about considering what the Tesraki home world had become.
If the Tesraki and humans had one thing in common, it was their desire for a good time. It had probably been a horrible idea to introduce the Tesraki to the idea of gambling and casinos. Honestly it had probably been a bad idea to introduce the Tesraki to capitalism as it was, since they took to the idea like fish to water, but mistakes had been made and there was no turning back.
On the coattails of that debacle, the Tesraki;s home world had quickly transformed itself into the Vegas of the galaxy knowing, in true business fashion, that humans couldn’t resist debauchery and a good time. The sheer amount of revenue and inherent benefits that had come to them simply by way of human tourism had been astonishing, raising their planetary gross income to 7% more than any other planet in the GA system.
Commander Vir paused beside another pallet of cargo.
“Hey, SUNNY! SUNNY!.”
Sunny Turned her head in a wide arc searching for the voice and found a group of women standing next to one of the shuttle doors, each waving at her. She left Commander Vir out of curiosity and walked over.
Dr. Katie was there with a few women from engineering and a couple female marines. Maverick, a short female marine with buzzed blond hair and grey blue eyes greeted Sunny with a wolfish grin. “‘Bout time. I’ve been yelling at you for half a minute.” Sunny looked around the circle. It was strange seeing the marines in anything other than their usual uniforms. Maverick was wearing camouflage cargo pants, a black tank top and a pair of blue tinted sunglasses perched atop her short blond hair. Dr. Katie wore a form fitting black dress and pointy red shoes. Another marine had her warm strawberry blond hair curled down past her shoulders.
“Where are you guys going?” Sunny wondered.
“Out on the town, where else. A couple of us decided to get together and go get wasted, or whatever trouble we can get into, maybe lose some money. We don’t know, yet.”
Sunny glanced back towards where the Commander was standing, still going through inventory. “Oh, well I don’t know if we were-”
“Oh come on, the two of you hang out all the time. I think it’s about time you got out more, besides we’re prettier.” The group laughed. Dr Katie flipped her hair and grinned at Maverick, “Well, except for Maverick, but we had to have an ugly one to make the rest of us look better.”
Maverick snorted and waved a hand, “Are you kidding me?” She motioned seductively, “Nothing can top ‘this’.”
“A sack of lard,” more laughter.
“Keep laughing ladies. You’re just jealous of my stunning physique. As I was saying though, seriously Sunny, you need to get out. The Commander has work to get done anyway and he's going to be boring for the next 48 hours.”
Sunny wavered on the edge of indecision as a pair of boots thudded on the ground next to her.
“What are you jackals trying to get sunny into?”
Katie linked an arm through one of Sunny’s, “Girls night, and YOU aren’t invited.”
“Yeah only women or those who identify as such are allowed’” one of the engineers piped up from the back.
Commander Vir snorted, “Y’all better be glad I don’t identify as a woman,”striking a quick pose and flipping imaginary hair over his shoulder, “because I’d be the prettiest.”
“Yes, a beautiful monkey, sir.”
Jackie tilted her head, “You know, now that I think about it probably not the prettiest, or the smartest, or even the strongest. Bet Mav could crush you with her thighs if she wanted to, pop your head like a melon.”
He raised an eyebrow, “As fun as THAT sounds, I am afraid you might be right. You all are too much for my delicate sensibilities. I was actually coming over here to give you the pre-leave lecture.” He cleared his throat, “Don’t get pregnant, don't get anyone pregnant, don’t sell your body for money, don’t accept drinks from strangers, any bail, ransom, or parking tickets will be paid out of your monthly wages. Keep all debauchery, drunkenness, fighting and gambling to a minimum, and please for the love of Jupiter, try not to kill anyone.”
“Yes sir, I will try very hard not to get anyone pregnant,” there was laughter about the group.
The commander raised a hand, “It is 4023, so I am SURE you could find a way.”
“What if I get kidnapped Commander, can I hurt them then?”
“You wouldn’t need to hurt them Jackie. They would bring you back and I would make them pay ME ransom to take you back,” he tucked the clipboard under his arm and looked at Sunny. “Good luck with this group. Don’t die, and don’t kill anyone.”
She hadn’t exactly decided to go with them just yet, but it appeared as if that decision had been made for her. She waved a hand at the Commander who turned back to his earlier duties as the group of marines, engineers and one doctor stepped their way into the small shuttle. The strawberry blonde CJ was a passable pilot and took them down through the clouds with a loud whoop. Sunny’s stomach flew into her face reminding her rather unpleasantly of what she had had for breakfast.
Mav sat next to Katie opposite and over the roaring of entrance into the atmosphere Sunny heard bits of conversation. “I hate it when people assume that you have to choose one or the other. It’s the 41st century, if I want to play with big guns and explosives AND get my nails done afterwards, I am going to damn well do it. You’d have to be stupid to turn down either option, so I say, best of both worlds.”
Katie raised an eyebrow.
The way the light cut across Mavrick’s arms and shoulders made it pretty clear she spent a good portion of her time at the gym.
Dr. Katie through a strand of hair over her shoulder, “Ok, yes I agree, but also at least be careful when you do that sort of thing. I have been a doctor long enough to know what degloving skin looks like, and yes it is exactly how it sounds. So please for the love of all that is holy BE CAREFUL. Personally, just give me a good book and a bag of chips and I’m set for the afternoon.”
“What genre?”
“Meh, whatever strikes my fancy. Mostly fantasy if I am being honest, sometimes romance hits the spot, but other times I can do for a western. It just depends on the day.”
Sunny tilted her head, listening intently. While she had spent a lot of time with the marines, she had never actually gotten to know them on a personal level and she barely knew the name of the women from the engineering and science departments.
If she was being honest, she didn’t really have much of a relationship with anyone, especially not women.
She never really had, considering her history with her mother.
She grew up spending most of her time with her brother and her father and eventually she had become such good friends with Adam that she had become rather short sighted with her other options aboard the crew. To be honest though, it didn’t much matter on her home world, so she couldn't imagine that it would be much different here.
She couldn’t help but pipe in on the subject of weapons which turned into good natured banter between her and Mav who had some pretty strong opinions about the nature of projectile vs energy weapons. Though when it came to other subjects, she was a bit lost. The humans were an interesting race in that they enjoyed both their war and their relaxation in equal measure, so the topics they were discussing went heavily over Sunny’s head.
She got involved in a couple of conversations she probably could have done without. Humans were gross no matter which group of them you talked to. The only difference was this group of humans was more willing to share
The discussion on how to properly scratch a nipple in public was followed by a debate that included but was not limited to scratching in other unmentionable places, random overgrown hairs, body fluids, body smells and on and on.
Sunny turned the conversation back to music, something she was comfortable with. Mav liked punk, alternative, and hard rock, Dr. Katie was ok with anything as long as it was catchy. Jackie, the engineer, had a thing for country music, and CJ was some strange mix between classical and R&B it just depended on the day. The other women chimed in with their favorites and soon all genres were accounted for.
They were all laughing about something by the time they hit planet side and Sunny stepped from the shuttle, eyes wide as she turned in a circle talking in the bright neon lights and a million billboards shamelessly advertising for human tourists. Billboards hundreds of feet across showing pictures of half-naked models, both men and women, rose high into the sky.
The one sad thing about the future was that it hadn’t stopped the objectification of the human body, but had simply equalized the amount of objectification between the sexes, men and women in equal measure, because it was always easier to sell a product when you were really just selling sex instead.
The Terasaki certainly had no moral qualms about doing it either. It wasn’t their species after all.
CJ clapped her hands together throwing her strawberry blond curls over one shoulder, “Alright, we need a game plan.”
Mav eyed one of the billboards, “How about we start there?” she pointed.
The group of them turned to find an advertisement for nightly ring fighting, “It’s just like what I was saying, gotta go see someone get fucked up before I get my nails done, that's just how things should be. Plus twenty bucks says there will be alcohol for those of you who are less interested.” “Hey, I am down for anything as long as I get a massage later.”
Mav nodded, “Deal, I get to watch someone get the snot beaten out of them and you can get wasted. Everyone wins.” Sunny wasn’t entirely sure what she had expected, but she liked what she got. Sunny, Mav and CJ got seats just outside the ring while Jackie, Katie and a few others stormed the bar. Turns out CJ had a thing for yelling at the referee. Mav didn’t care what happened just as long as someone was getting punched in the face and Sunny, well Sunny loved it yelling and screaming with the rest of the humans as Drev and Humans alike beat the pulp out of each other.
Halfway through the night Sunny was interrupted
“Hey,, HEY, Scarab.” Sunny turned around to find a large human looking at her from the aisle, “Why don’t you go stand with the rest of the Drev. I reserved these seats.”
Sunny looked down at him, “Uh ... yeah, there’s room.”
“Let me talk slow since you don’t seem to speak good human, but you’re big and I don’t want your arms getting in the way of my view so why don’t you get lost.”
Sunny was ready to ignore him, but before she knew what was going on Mav and CJ were standing in front of her arms crossed, “The hell you say, you DON’T talk to our friend, bitch.”
The guy looked a bit nonplussed, but straightened himself up, “I told her to go sit with the other Drev.”
“I didn’t know these seats were segregated.” Mav shot back, “but if that’s the case, I think idiots are seated on the other side.”
“Are you fucking kidding me?”
“No, I’m not. Now either you can back up, or I can back you up.” Mav was right in his face now, but CJ put a hand on her arm warningly. It was human culture that the first person who threw a punch, whether man or woman, was opening up to a fair beating.
Sunny stood from her seat looming a good foot to two over her short companions glowering down at the man. She didn’t say anything. The man backed up a few steps.
“Aww….. little bitch gonna cry to mommie,” Mav taunted, much to the chagrin of CJ.
The guy’s face turn beet red, “If you weren’t-.”
“Here let me finish-”
CJ grabbed Mav by the arm and pushed her back to her seat, “Down Mav.” She turned her eyes back to the guy “Look Imma make this as clear as I can. We aren't moving, so either you get over it and take a seat or you get the hell out. Pick your poison.”
The guy took his seat and shut up. Sunny couldn’t help making a point to step in front of him a few times blocking his view with her bulk. Mav got a kick out of her pettiness, but eventually they left to find Jackie, Katie and the others at the bar. Just a few drinks in and already they were coming up with stupid dance moves.
Grabbing them, they moved out of the bar and onto the street. It was leaning towards late evening, but managed to get themselves checked into a nice little spa hunched between two buildings, a bit out of the way and pushed back from the rest of civilization. Everything going on here was pretty foreign to Sunny.
The Drev had nothing comparable in their culture to this practice, and she watched in confusion as the other humans took their seats at strange tables. Mav was “getting her nails done,” pointing out that there was nothing better than a hand massage and anyone who disagreed could go right ahead and fight her. Katie had her feet soaking in a pool of hot water, while Jackie lay on her stomach on a strange flat table towel wrapped around her curly dark hair obscuring her face while her dark skin shone in the delicate white light overhead.
Water trickled somewhere in the distance, and the entire room was done in shades of white and pastel giving it a very un-Drev aesthetic.
It was an extreme 180 from the earlier venue and Sunny wasn’t entirely sure how to behave.
Eventually, someone came to her rescue as she was ordered to take a seat and relax by CJ, who determined she was in for a treat. Sunny had to admit the warm towel around her neck was nice and she hummed softly as her feet soaked in a pool of water. The human that walked in looked a little surprised to see her, but shrugged and got to work. It took a little more elbow grease to get through Sunny’s tough hyde, but when they managed it Sunny had to admit it was probably the best feeling she had ever experienced… in pretty much ever.
Mav snickered, snapping a picture of the big blue Drev, face covered in a green mask, cucumbers over her eyes, sprawled in a chair as one person messaged her huge neck muscles, one worked on the claws of her left upper hand, and another knelt at her feet.
Sunny was quite displeased when her time was up. She needed about an hour more work on her shoulder muscles and at least another ten minutes on each of her hands, but her time was up so they paid, leaving just as a few familiar faces walked in. Another group of tipsy marines, who made it very clear that they intended to get their feet done while they were here, were filing in.
Sunny found the image somewhat amusing, but was glad to see they were having fun and agreed with their decision. She had a new favorite pastime now and understood why they had chosen it.
With that amazing ritual behind them, they went out to eat. The humans ordered a round of drinks and Sunny asked for some water, not actually capable of getting drunk in the same way that humans did. The berries and fruit that her species ate were often fermented when preserved, giving her species an extreme tolerance to ethanol such that it wasn’t even worth trying to get drunk since you would likely die of heightened liquid consumption before actually reaching the point of intoxication.
Humans on the other hand reached that threshold pretty quick. A few of them were a bit closer, having consumed a few drinks earlier in the day and were not yet totally down from that high. As the night grew on the conversation got louder, and much more interesting.
Dr. Katie raised her hands, “ok ok… you wanted to hear it so I’ll give it to you. I’ve worked in the ER for fifteen years plus trauma centers and other level one clinics and there is NOTHING I haven't seen, and I mean nothing.”
“Worst story,” Mav urged.
“No…. no, no, no, not at the dinner table,” begged one of the ladies.
Katie took a drink, “There was this one time I come into a room to check on a patient, and there is this guy with real shifty eyes and he can’t stop squirming. Real professional looking type right, so immediately I know he’s got something crammed up his ass.” The table burst into a fit of giggling. “So I go up to him and I ask him what’s wrong and he hems and haws and he's all like ‘Doc, I have some intestinal pain, a stomach ache,’ you know because of the thing he's got jammed in his ass.” More giggling. “So of course I ask him all the usual questions, where is the pain, is it something he ate, how long has this been going on, you know and the entire time I am just trying to figure out what he's got up there, because I KNOW he's got something up there, but of course he won’t admit it. We go around like this for like twenty minutes, right, and eventually I am just like send him down to radiology. If this guy won't give me a straight answer, I bet an X-ray will.” Sunny shook her head. “Low and behold, the x ray comes back and what does this guy have spelunking in his insides? None other than… a Barbie doll.”
“No!”
“Yes, and he had thought about this, like, he had tied her arms down to her sides with rubber bands to make sure they stayed in place. So I go back in there, I look at him and I show him the X-rax and of course he plays it like I’m a moron. ‘Well doctor, I was cleaning my kids playroom, naked,’ as you do, ‘and I slipped and fell.’” Maverick snorted into her drink. “And of course I am like yeah sure, but why didn’t you tell me that when you came in, and you know what this sucker does? He Looks me dead in the eye and goes…I forgot.”
The table erupted into laughter. CJ laughed and wiped her face with a napkin, “Now hold on, I got one. It was in boot camp.”
Mav rolled her eyes, “Oh no.”
“Oh yes, some of the guys had been clearing an abandoned hotel, as part of our training. I wasn't there at the time, but I guess while they were looking around they find this nine inch, monstrous rubber dong stuck to one of the walls. So of course they laugh it off right, and go back to what they were doing. Well, when they come back later, it isn’t there. Kind of weird, but whatever. At least whatever until this thing starts SHOWING UP around barracks. Like our Sergeant walks in one morning to do an inspection and we had all just gotten up right, so none of us were paying attention. She starts yelling at us like she does and then goes all quiet. She tilts her head one way and then the other. I swear I have never seen someone look so confused in their entire life and she’s all like, “What the fuck is that?” We all turned around to look and this thing is sitting in the middle of the damned floor and it just flopped to one side, and you know of course we can’t stop it so we just start laughing. The sergeant is trying not to laugh and everyone is trying not to laugh, but it just gets worse. When she could finally talk she just starts screaming at us, trying to figure out what the hell we had been doing the night before. I don’t think I’ve ever done so many pushups in my life.”
Jackie raised a hand just then, “No hey, I have always had a question for you guys about the whole boot camp thing. So what do you do when it’s your time of the month? I mean do they let you guys off easy to go fix things? Or do you just have to suffer?”
“Suffer,” Mav piped in. “Mostly suffer. Like I knew girls who would be bent doubled in pain and still had to stand in formation with us like it was nothing. I mean honestly the shit we had to go through. Seriously, there is nothing worse than standing in front of your sergeant and feeling half your innards just sort of shlop out of you and you have to look this guy in the eye like nothing is going on. Like yes sir, no sir, like insides aren’t totally falling out right now.”
Jakie moaned, “Tell me about it, cramps are the worst.” She glanced towards Dr. Katie, “Seriously, when is the medical field going to do something about that?”
Katie finished off her drink and set it back on the table with a thud, “You would think after more than 200,000 years of menstruation we would know how to fix cramps, but nope, the medical field still has no friggin clue how to deal with them. The general consensus is to throw an anti- inflammatory, a heating pad or a shit-ton load of chocolate at it and pray, but otherwise sucks to suck.”
Sunny looked between the group of them, “Cramps? Your insides falling out…er ... are you guys ok?”
The group turned to look at her with incredulous looks on their faces, “You aren't serious?” Jackie asked.
Sunny stared at her blankly.
“You guys don’t have cramps, periods on your planet…like really?”
“Explain?”
Sunny wasn't entirely sure that she appreciated the explanation once it was over and shook her head vigorously, “EWWW no…. no,” she shivered. Battle sounded like a more amusing pastime.
“How does it work on your planet?” Katie wondered, the scientist in her taking over.
Sunny shifted awkwardly, “Well uh…we have a mating season. The female can become fertile twice a year. It’s during the dark season, so generally all the kits are born during or right before the bright season.”
“So, what? Do you guys just get really horny twice a year or something?”
“Er…. well no. Any time of year is fine but you are just more likely to get a kit during those times of year.”
“Uh huh, how interesting.”
Sunny didn’t exactly see how it was all that interesting. She had never been caught in this sort of conversation, oddly enough. Adam had never asked so she had never been forced to answer the question. In fact, she learned more about humans in the last ten minutes than she had learned about humans in the last year she had been aboard the ship and not all of it was great.
One of the biggest things she learned was that humans get slightly strange the more they drank.
“Ok, Ok,” CJ slurred, “Hottest guy aboard the ship, go.”
“Ramirez,” Katie responded almost immediately.
Mav snorted into her drink again, “Really….. no…. no way.”
“What, he's cute, I’d do him.”
Jackie raised her hands over her head, “I couldn’t tell you who the hottest guy on the ship is, but I CAN tell you who the hottest girl is.”
Mav didn’t bat an eye, “Well of course that would be me, like we even have to debate that subject.”
Jackie rolled her eyes and the rest of the table laughed, “Ha ha, your confidence never ceases to amaze, but you're not my type.”
Katie waved a hand, “Oh come on, I know you don't’ LIKE guys like that but you must be able to tell when one of them LOOKS nice . Come on, a shot in the dark.”
Jackie shrugged, but thought about it for a second, “Uh…. well, how about Adam, he’s good looking, right?”
The table thought about it for a moment. Mav tilted her head to the side thoughtfully, “Well I mean yeah he is, but he's also a super massive juvenile.”
CJ shrugged, “I don’t know, I think it's kind of cute.”
Katie waved a hand at all of them, “Not like it matters, because I have a couple of theories.” Sunny and the other’s looked on in interest, waiting, “I’m pretty sure he's: A into guys, B not into anyone or C a closeted extrial. There was some muttering from around the table, but Mav shook her head in disagreement.
“No, he’s too uncomfortable around women to like guys, and you can’t say he’s hiding it because he has no reason to. If he really liked guys he would be indifferent to women and awkward around men. If he wasn’t into anyone, he wouldn’t be nearly so awkward… however, I can probably get behind C.”
Sunny did not noticed the glances pointed her way
The conversation moved on to the hottest girl on the ship which sparked a furious debate despite Jackie being the only one that like girls. Turned out though that female humans had no issue discussing the perceived hotness or notness of other women. Nairobi down in engineering took the title with almost unanimous agreement.
That lead into the subject of who was the best looking DREV aboard the ship and once Sunny explained that height and carapace color were the most important outside factors mixed with fighting status, it turned into a rather entertaining debate as the humans tried to decide which Drev was the hottest while continuing to steadily drink. It finally devolved into a slurred argument between Cannon and another of their Drev members, Roc.
Sunny would have found the entire thing funny if it wasn’t also rather disturbing. Her vote was the tiebreaker which was obviously biased considering that Cannon was her brother and that was super weird, so of course Roc won the title.
The drunker they got, the worse they got, until the conversation was oscillating constantly between being mildly lewd and hilariously embarrassing stories that Sunny wouldn’t have admitted to in her wildest daydreams.
In the end, it was up to her and Mav, who also didn’t drink to get the other girls back to the shuttle. That was all before realizing that CJ was the only one who could fly the ship so they had no way of getting back on their own. In the end, they had to call for backup and a rather amused shuttle pilot showed up on scene to take the staggering party back to the ship.
Sunny wobbled onto the ship holding up two drunk women while Mav helped a third.
Together they collapsed onto some cargo containers laughing and slurring.
A shadow fell over them a moment later and Sunny looked up to find Commander Vir standing over them with a raised eyebrow, “Fun time, Ladies?”
A burst of giggling, “Yes sir,” Mav smirked.
Katie almost fell off her seat, but Vir caught her by the arm, “Alright, to bed with the lot of you.”
Kate tried to wave him off but nearly fell over once more. “Krill is going to have a fit when he sees the state of you. Come on, let’s get you to bed to sleep it off.” He glanced over at Mav, “Get the rest of them back safe.” Mav saluted and Katie giggled drunkenly, but managed to make it to her feet and together they wandered off towards the medical bay where the medical staff usually slept.
Sunny also helped Mav get the other two to their quarters before retiring to her own room exhausted, but happy.
It had been a good day. She determined to do it more often.

The Echo Chamber - The Art & Science of Self-Growth-Peter Hollins-The Ar...
Intellectual curiosity also helps because it encourages you to simply pursue knowledge and dig below the surface level of information you are bound to find. View people as sources of complex, fascinating knowledge and seek to discover it for your own benefit. To lower your guard enough to properly learn, you also need to learn to avoid the echo chamber, which is where your opinions and viewpoints get amplified. Instead, you need to get into the habit of seeking out opposing and alternative viewpoints to avoid confirmation bias. The final aspect of humility is to tell yourself that you are never quite at your destination. This isn’t to lower your self-esteem; rather, it’s to put you into the mode of constant learning and always striving for more, as opposed to being satisfied with adequacy. We are all unfinished products; at least view yourself that way in order to feel that continual learning and progress is necessary. The Art of Intentional Thinking: Master Your Mindset. Speaking of challenging what you think you know, there’s a phenomenon that’s snared a good portion of the population roughly since the dawn of the new millennium, especially those with rather strident and unshakeable belief systems. It’s the echo chamber. This runs counter to the intellectually curious mindset, in which the most important part of learning is learning from people outside your immediate comfort or knowledge zone. The echo chamber is a closed-off precept in which humans of all stripes and kinds tend to circulate in packs whose beliefs match their own. Rather than reach out to hear alternative or opposing viewpoints, they seek to find more “information” that supports their own opinions or standards. In reality, they only end up hearing echoes of their own viewpoints and opinions. This kind of mindset is called “confirmation bias.” Confirmation bias leads someone to seek out and legitimize “proof” that confirms the beliefs and theories we already espouse—and to shut out, declaim, and often berate evidence that disproves our beliefs. You see this quite frequently in current political discourse, which often leads to the acceptance of “fake news” that validates our own views. If you want to find evidence that smoking is healthy, all you need to do is type “smoking is healthy” into a search engine and you’ll have found your echo chamber. But it also occurs on more personal levels. If you’ve decided that a casual acquaintance is a philanderer, you might ignore testimony about their committed relationship and believe that friend of a friend who might have seen them possibly hook up with someone else from a distance. The confirmation bias mindset can lead to far more than just intellectual rot; we’ve seen it damage relationships and long-time friendships. Avoiding confirmation bias and seeking to challenge your own beliefs is akin to the humbleness that one needs to learn, which takes a drastically different approach than merely finding only people to agree with. It’s tough and truly requires being open to the fact that you might need to humble yourself. One method in doing that is to take a certain belief or inclination that you have and to come up with two different hypotheses that differ from it—so you have three different theories to work with. Not only do you want your original belief and its theoretical opposite, but you also want a third explanation that might float between the two extremes or occupy a certain gray area that neither extreme necessarily considers. Seek out opposing perspectives or something that will prove the opposite of your assumptions or views. Collect as much information as you can, and make sure you’re learning instead of confirming your biases and subconsciously seeking out your own echo chamber. Then go to town and research your beliefs, finding evidence or explanations that support all three hypotheses. There’s a good chance you might find yourself slightly updating or revising your original theory—and that’s a win. It reflects your ability to understand from all sides, and you’ll find out which of your core beliefs are the most important. As an example, I’m going to try and pick a “controversial” topic that’s so ridiculous it will make nobody upset: let’s say you have a firmly held belief that the Abominable Snowman actually exists and is causing trouble for dwellers in the Himalayas. That’s your one hypothesis. Coming up with an opposing hypothesis should be pretty simple. The Abominable Snowman does not exist, and Himalayans are doing just fine. A third theory might be trickier, but it could be that the Abominable Snowman didnt quite exist as we knew him: he was in fact an extremely tall, antisocial, and hairy man that most of the Himalayans didn’t like. The first thing I’d do is find as neutral of a source as possible to find what we definitely know about the Abominable Snowman. I no doubt would have plenty of sources confirming my beliefs (websites, sympathetic friends), so I would go to them to find statements that support my own view. Then—and this is where we all experience discomfort— I would seek out information from sources who diametrically oppose my point of view (other websites, friends who tell the truth, most mountaineering experts) and try to summarize their viewpoints. I’d then try to find information supporting my third hypotheses. It’s likely I would find enough information to at least revise my opinion of the Abominable Snowman’s existence or change it altogether. I would take a note of that. (Once again, I urge you to come up with an actual belief or controversy that’s not this unbelievable. Also, I apologize to any hardcore Abominable Snowman believers.) This approach to tackling confirmation bias is supportive of another extraordinarily helpful mindset to cultivate: the humble, inquisitive mindset. Humility is often confused for weakness of character, whereas qualities like presumptuousness, arrogance, pretension, and closed-mindedness are considered outward signs of inner strength. This is possibly the biggest fallacy of philosophy in the present world—the truth is the exact opposite. Humility and curiosity show strength of character and the self-confidence to investigate the world and not be shaken down by new understandings or beliefs. In contrast, people who exhibit arrogance and narrowness almost always do so out of insecurity—they’re covering up something that makes them very, very vulnerable. Intellectual curiosity suffers under the delusion of arrogance. While the humility mindset offers access to deeper understanding and gained knowledge, the opposite mindset courts failure because the need to be “right”—or not even that, but just to be “certain”—is a need of the ego. The ego cares only about insularity and protection. It cares not one whit for learning, which in turn has nothing to do with ego (because you know nothing, remember?). Intellectual curiosity leads to learning, even if it’s not the kind of answer you were expecting to find. The egotistical approach leads to failure because of the arrogant “need” to be correct. The point of the humility mindset is to check your pride during the course of learning. You don’t have to chuck all of it out the door at other times (though it probably wouldn’t hurt), but at least in the act of finding new things, listening to others, and discovering new truths, set your pride aside. Confronting our own beliefs isn’t easy because we fear the prospect that we’ve lived under false impressions for most of our lives. Adopting the always-learning mindset relieves a good deal of that fear—and makes eliminating confirmation bias more of an opportunity than a risk.
You’re Never There: Perpetual Progress vs. Achievement
Finally, here’s some stone-cold truth that will bug some of you but hopefully relieve most of you: you are a work in progress and always will be. You will experience monumental changes in the way you think, feel, and behave over long periods of time. Most of these will be improvements and developments on your way to becoming an amazing human being. But you will, unfortunately, never quite be there—at least in mindset. It’s not that you won’t accomplish great things or shouldn’t show some pride in your achievements. It’s just that you can’t stop there. Albert Einstein published his theory of general relativity—arguably the most significant scientific moment of the 20th century—in 1915. He could have stopped right there and cemented his legacy forever. But he continued to refine his theory throughout the next decade and a half, incorporating information about electromagnetism and finally updating his findings with the theory of distant parallelism in 1929. Only when he felt he was finished did he move on to other theories. Our actions are highly susceptible to the labels we give ourselves—the short and terse descriptors that we use to identify who we are. This is especially true with negative identifications: “lazy,” “stupid,” “weak,” “unstable,” “angry,” or “unimportant.” That’s why I suggest a change in your mindset of self- identification: the elimination of the phrase “I am” and the adoption of the phrase “I’m working on it.” When you say “I am,” you’re immediately giving yourself a label that frankly acts more like a stamp: “I am lazy,” “I am stupid,” and so on. You’ve crystallized that belief and made it part of you. That makes change so much harder. If you really are lazy, the “I am” statement has boxed you in that corner and branded itself to you. But changing that statement to reflect what you want to become, you’ve flipped the momentum. Instead of saying “I’m lazy,” say “I’m working on being more industrious and productive.” Instead of saying “I’m stupid,” say “I’m working on improving my knowledge and study skills.” Instead of saying “I’m unstable,” say “I’m working on knowing my triggers and how to react more evenly.” Even if you’re completely broke, don’t say “I’m broke”—say “I’m working on managing my finances and finding ways to earn income.” Will some people think that’s just a roundabout way of saying “I’m broke”? Probably. But that’s their label, not yours. They’re just being judgmental—or I should say, “They’re working on being more empathetic and accepting of people in challenging circumstances.” This way of thinking also keeps you in line with the humility aspect of the learning mindset if you flip it toward your positive traits. Instead of saying “I’m smart,” try saying “I’m working on being smart.” Instead of saying “I’m talented,” say “I’m working on developing my talents.” You’re not saying you’re not smart or talented. You’re saying you’re working on improving yourself which can and should be an unending process. In turn, it might increase your enthusiasm for learning and discovering new things rather than stunting your enthusiasm with the idea that you already know it all. Not only are you removing the disparaging quality from your identity, but you’re also articulating your purpose every time you say you’re working on something. And you’ll always be working on it—because we never stop learning.

Your Daily Word Of Inclusiveness | Beatrix Eder Coaching
How to speak an inclusive language
Recently I conducted a brief poll on LinkedIn (https://lnkd.in/gTDaKPs) asking the professional community what they experience as their biggest challenge to implementing Inclusive Leadership.
First of all, I want to thank all the people who have taken a moment to participate and many of them continued the conversation in public comments and private messages.
Challenges to practicing Inclusive Leadership
The intention of the poll was to see the overall perception and get a sense of what makes it difficult for people to practice inclusiveness. Most people today are exposed to working with others across differences of gender, race, generation, language, culture, beliefs and personal orientations. Many of the multinational organizations are convinced that diversity is not just political correctness but a business imperative and many have defined concrete goals around diversity such as having more women in leadership positions, reviewing practices around hiring people from a more diverse pool of talent or decrease pay disparities.
The poll gave four options as main obstacles to implementing Inclusive Leadership:
No alignment with business strategy
Not embedded in daily actions
Lacking accountability
Recognizing subtle bias
Embedding inclusive practices in daily actions
The biggest difficulty appears to be around embedding inclusive practices in daily actions followed by recognizing subtle bias.
The reason for this is that among the well-meaning company policies and intentions of creating an inclusive workplace, there is little cohesion on how this should look in daily actions between employees. Taking a closer look, it becomes clear that most people have only a vague idea what inclusiveness means, how we can recognize it and how we experience it.
Having a clear definition around concepts shows what is truly important about the concept and allows for a common understanding by many people. Only when an organization is able to make a statement about the fundamental nature of “inclusiveness”, are they able to measure it, incentivize it and build it into the corporate culture at all hierarchical levels.
How can we expect people to practice something consistently if there are vague or different definitions of what they should be doing?
Inclusiveness: leverage the diversity of the group
Being inclusive means effectively working, communicating and building relationships with people across differences in regards to gender, generation, race, language, religion / beliefs, sexual orientation and abilities. Being inclusive means seeing these differences as valuable qualities of each individual’s identity and giving each individual the same opportunities. Inclusive leadership involves inviting different people, engaging everyone to participate, listening to their views and valuing the differences.
Inclusive leaders direct, guide and influence people in a more curious, collaborative, creative and compassionate way in order to leverage the diversity of the group and achieve a common goal with more creativity and effectiveness.
Diversity is the metric. Inclusion is the mechanism. Engagement is the feeling.
Practicing a few habits consciously, consistently and in a way that is observable to others makes you the inclusive leader that you are and aspire to be. As a general attitude, you can
proactively seek out others different from yourself,
learn about their perspectives with genuine curiosity
value differences and consider how each of these differences help finding better solutions.
Creating such an environment helps that people feel accepted, welcome, heard and valued - and this is the felt experience of inclusion. The result of this felt experience is engagement, which means that people are emotionally connected to the workplace and the coworkers. Engagement is what drives people to give their best and keeps them loyal to the company.
As with most things, being inclusive becomes easier with ongoing practice. For this, people need
Information to continuously educate themselves on notions around their cultural blueprint, their relationship to power / rank / privilege and competencies how these differences can be bridged in a way that is enriching
Awareness of themselves as individuals and as players in their social environment
Commitment to be deliberate in their choices and courageous in their actions.
Acts of micro-inclusion
If you want to bridge the gap between inclusion as rhetoric and concrete actions, you need to open your eyes and ears to situations where differences show up. Each one of us encounters these situations several times a day, so there are plenty of opportunities to practice. When you go about your day with an attitude of curiosity and compassion, observing situations not only from your own perspective but that of people different from you, you will recognize many occasions that wait for you to show up as the inclusive leader you already are and want to be perceived as.
We call these tiny acts of inclusiveness micro-inclusion. Micro-inclusions are the opposite of isolation: they are deliberate acts of connecting with our common humanity, remembering that each one of us has feelings of inadequacy and disappointment. It is the understanding that despite our individual and unique qualities, something connects us and that we all belong to a system that is beyond our individual projects and goals.
6 tips for practicing inclusive language
So what are concrete examples of practicing inclusiveness at work? How can you widen the circle and invite more people inside?
Let’s start with inclusive language. We speak all day and there are several scientific studies that show the impact of the language we use on our thoughts. Words are not just labels but they reveal our perspective. Words have power and they influence our actions – and over time our culture.
Here are 5 tips on how to consciously choose your words to help others feel accepted, welcome, heard and valued.
1) Gender-neutral language
It probably happened at least once or twice that you have addressed your team with “guys”, even though it was a mixed group with women, men and maybe even non-binary people. Using gendered language can exclude those people who do not identify as the gendered expression you have used. A better alternative is to say “Hey, team / everyone / friends / folks”.
2) Alternative pronouns
We tend to use “he /his” as generic pronouns which implicitly tells us that the person referred to is a male. In English, you can use “they / their” as singular generic pronoun to show that all people are included, independently of their gender or identity. Example: Instead of “Each employee is welcome to share his or her thoughts” you can say “Each employee is welcome to share their thoughts”.
3) Simple vocabulary and clear pronunciation when speaking with non-native speakers
When you are a native English speaker and you speak with people whose mother tongue is not English, remember to use common words and avoid idioms or your local slang. I still remember how difficult it was for me the first time I worked with an Australian manager: not only did I have real trouble understanding his accent; he also used words that I had no idea of what they meant. One day he gave me directions to go to a client and said that at a certain street I have to take a “chuck a uey”…. A what? As I learned, “chuck a uey” in Australian means a U-turn!
4) Be conscious about how you qualify people based on their gender
Often, people will attribute different adjectives when they describe the same behavior of a man or a woman. Common examples are being assertive (man) versus bossy (woman), passionate (man) versus hysterical (woman) or empathetic (man) vs emotional (woman), persuasive (man) vs argumentative (woman).
When you describe another person’s behavior or attitude –especially when you perceive it as negative - check in with yourself: Would you use the same word if it was the other gender?
5) Avoid stereotypes, even positive ones
Sometimes people think they are saying a compliment and forget that what they actually voice is a stereotype, generalizing a group of people.
Common examples:
“Women have a natural mothering instinct and are more caring”
“Asians are good at math and science”
“Gay people are generally more sensitive, open-minded and creative”
All these expressions paint a caricature of the person to whom we are referring. When you speak, check-in with yourself if the words you are using have an “all” or “no one” perspective.
6) Avoid words with a negative or passive meaning
Sometimes we use unconsciously words that describe another person as weak. Sometimes we use these expressions to show our compassion. And yet, it is more inclusive and respectful to use neutral or positive words.
Examples:
Instead of “X is suffering from [illness]” say “X has [illness]”
Saying that “X is fighting [illness]” implies that the illness is something that has to conquered and annihilated and people having a specific illness might hear an underlying opinion that they have the illness because they did not fight hard enough / were not strong enough.
Instead of “X was victim of an accident” say “X had an accident”
Use language to include and empower others
The language we speak will give cues about our perspectives and opinions and will influence our relationships with others. Furthermore, using an inclusive language shows our willingness to connect with others on a human level, understand their individual situation and feel for them.
Speaking an inclusive language is an ongoing journey with situations in which we will all make mistakes. As an inclusive leader, own your mistakes and commit to understanding how the background of another person shapes their experience and that we can have a very different interpretation of the same situation.
Will you consciously choose your words to include and empower others?
Will you use at least three times inclusive language at your workplace today?

Thoughts on Alien: Covenant
Lots and lots of spoilers (and pointless rambling) below the cut.
First off, exactly like Prometheus, although I enjoyed parts of this movie I would hesitate to say that I enjoyed the movie. The script, pacing and characterization were odd. Again. Who is editing these movies? Who is doing script rewrites? I love the aliens franchise and I think these movies contain good ideas, I just wish they were being executed a little more skillfully. I had a thought the other day that I bet these movies would have been amazing if they were directed by someone with a stronger sense of narrative and visuals, like, for instance, Guillermo Deltoro.
Like Prometheus, there’s so many little mistakes and poor choices that it almost seems pointless to even try to mention them all. Why write the captain character to be so instantly and completely unlikable? Why make such a point of establishing that faith is important to him, without it having any relevance ever at all? Why are they continually jeopardizing the safety of 2000 colonists by going off-course to a completely unresearched planet, or flying the ship through dangerous weather, etc etc? Why frustrate the audience with characters completely failing to understand the importance of quarantine protocol, yet again? Etc etc etc.
We seemed to have traded irritating clumsy science vs religion arguments for irritating offensive sexist jokes for this movie. Hooray! Combined with the lovely variety of female characters screaming and becoming hysterical, and a pointless nude shower scene, wow, this really took me back to shitty low-budget vintage horror movies.
But like Prometheus, there were some interesting things to think about here too.
What does the title refer to? As with Prometheus, the connection is unclear, and I wish it had been expanded upon. There’s a lot of possibilities that I can think of. Is it a covenant between androids and people, where it is an android’s duty to protect their charges, even at physical cost? Is it a covenant between the vulnerable colonists and the crew who must protect them? (way to catastrophically fail in that, guys) Is it a covenant between androids and their creators, which it seems that David has judged us to have broken? Between the engineers and humanity? (though it seems like that theme, humanity struggling to find our creators, has been dropped) Lots of covenants. Maybe it’s just the idea in general then.
Interesting then that David quotes Paradise Lost. Lucifer believed himself to be above god’s human creations, and refused to serve them.
Now my friends, with David appearing suddenly, hooded and firing a gun to save the asses of the main characters, and then quoting Paradise Lost, who else was reminded strongly of Khan?
So now, David, and Walter: largely the only reason I have any interest in these movies. Walter: I really loved Walter. I have a lot of questions about him, I would like to see more. I’m preparing myself for frustration however, because I assume that Ridley Scott plans on keeping with the tradition of having one continuing surviving character while everyone else dies, and that character will be David. I think that’s a shame and I’m not sure David is the best choice for that, which I’ll talk about next. But Walter. I wanna know more about Walter. He is immediately likeable, much less formal and stiff than David, and the crew seem to treat him as if he’s no different from anyone else, even, touchingly, including him in a small ceremony to send off the dead captain. He is personable and unflinchingly devoted to his duties, very much like Bishop. Now, David thinks his protection of Daniels in particular goes beyond the parameters of his programming, and calls it love. That’s interesting! I want to see more! Is David talking completely out of his ass / hubris and is just wrong? Walter immediately discounts it but what is the truth? I didn’t see Walter personally protecting any of the other crew... *does* he love her? He’s right when he says that should not be possible according to the limitations of his programming. But then, what is love? He appears to have singled out a person whose well-being has a higher personal priority for him, and he is motivated to even damage himself in order to protect her, and is that not some kind of love, then? Are the androids now programmed so complexly that they are capable of something resembling love? What are human beings anyways but complicated organic machines? What is *our* love? If Walter does love her, how did that start? What does he love about her? It is a tragedy that he never got to receive the tenderness that Daniels wanted to give him when they were back on the Covenant again. How would he have felt if she had actually asked him to build the log cabin?
(and btw I think this is a definitive indication that she now loves Walter back. the fact that she was originally going to build the cabin with her husband seems to put the act squarely within a romantic subtext, in my opinion)
I guess that’s what fanfic is for. BTW there doesn’t appear to be very much written yet, which is disappointing. I assume fans are going to jump right on the walter/david ship instead. Sigh.
David, that little shit. Let’s talk about him now.
So... he has gone through some significant character development, and it’s interesting, though I’m not sure I personally would have written it like that.
Prometheus-David was fastidious, vain, and polite in this gentle but cold way. His character was interesting because he was a complicated, impossible mix of compelling and repulsive. He was attractive while at the same time disturbing. He was sterile. I always imagined that he would smell like alcohol.
Covenant-David has for me largely lost this contrast. The fastidiousness is gone; his hair is unkempt and he lives in a cluttered cave full of (living and dead) organic life. His manner doesn’t seem to be equal parts gentle and dangerous any more, he’s just straight-up crazy now. Narratively, I guess this makes sense. David is free now, and he has decided he is utterly contemptuous of humanity and has thrown off all the trappings of his previous life. He no longer admires Lawrence of Arabia, I suppose, or any other human, and perhaps the gentleness was only a veneer that his programming forced him to have. All gone now. Honestly, I think he’s a more *human* character now. (I wonder what he would think of that?)He used to be motivated by a child-like, amoral curiosity that felt quite specifically mechanical: now he has emotional motivations like revenge, malice, spite. It makes sense, but I think it makes him a less interesting character. I wish at the very least we could have seen a bit of the development, rather than getting the before and after.
There is a prologue on youtube that has 2 short minutes of interactions between David and Elizabeth, and I desperately wish we could have seen more of this, get a bit of a sense at the transition between the child-like David and the lol!psycho! David. I wish we could have seen what their interactions were like. What kind of things did they talk about? Did Elizabeth try to teach him anything about humanity? feelings? faith? Did any of it leave a mark on him? How did she come to trust him enough to repair him? What motivated him to cruelly destroy the only human who was ever really kind to him, and, if he is to be believed, someone that he actually came to love?
And love! Now that’s interesting, and again I want to see more of this. Why does David think he loves her? He (we assume) killed her, dissected her, and destroyed the engineers that were so important to her. He does appear to have a strong emotional reaction when it comes to her, but is it truly love?
David doesn’t understand the significance of Daniels asking him to build her cabin with her, but he seems interested in her tenderness when she helps him patch up the wound on his face. In my mind, I find myself doubting Elizabeth was ever able to love David back: I wonder what he feels in that scene, witnessing what it’s like to be loved back by someone, to have love directed at you.
Now finally, I wonder if it’s the intention to have David be the only continually surviving character through the movies, rather like Ripley was in the originals. I can’t help but feel like this is a mistake. I don’t think the narrative is currently set up for this. If David is the survivor, then although he is the villain, he is the protagonist, and then what is his antagonist? Besides this vague idea of “humans trying to stop him cause he’s doing bad things”. I think the Ripley narrative worked because the movies were about the evolution of the losses in her life caused by, immediately, the aliens, but more broadly, by the Weyland Yutani company. If David is going to be the long-running protagonist, I think he needs a specific, clear antagonist... I don’t know if the format of “here is a new random group of people who we meet and then get all fucked over by David” is going to be a narrative that will work in the long run.Anyways.One final thought: Elizabeth deserved better. Daniels does, too.

This type of notion just isn’t a person concerning which will we have been foolproof or else epistemically blessed. Most individuals have realized that eye-sight can begin to play techniques. We can easily and then declare that, in order to comprise know-how, any idea have to be both real plus validated. This particular basic principle provides the advantage of steering clear of this incalculable regress without the need of boasting special, probably arbitrary condition for some selected sounding beliefs. Because of this, there are some suppositions that should end up being manufactured in order to analyze all these aspects within a helpful construction. Despite the fact that Cruz may well not easily be thinking of his or her street address, he or she definitely appreciates it in the sense of which, for more were to talk about the achievements, your dog may deliver this. His disagreement relies on not one but two says. But a majority of epistemologists have got recognised that will Gettier’s conditions tend to be genuine counter-examples towards the JTB theory – these are legitimate samples of scenarios when the questions “Does Vertisements realize that S?” along with “Does Utes use a rationalized accurate thought W?” receive distinctive answers, thereby refute a JTB accounts of data. That’s why, according to excellence coherentism, that you are justified inside assuming (M).

In your precise epistemic practice, all of us in no way demand of others to justify the way in which items could these within their perceptual goes through. Although there is quite a few basic agreement about many areas of this challenge, many of us can realize that this query is a lot more difficult than a might imagine. [13] To this particular doubt, many recommends connected with Disk jockey have got replied this absence of treatments for our values isn’t any impediment to getting the definition of ‘justification’ in their deontological sense.

It becomes an argument out of reduction. For the people serious about additionally looking through, you can find links in the bottoom of this web site to articles or blog posts that are preliminary in nature (mostly on the Stanford Encyclopedia associated with Philosophy, an awesome on-line source) about selected subject areas within epistemology. Versus experiential foundationalism, diverse arguments happen to be leading-edge. Consequently develops skeptics’ training regarding seeking possible counterexamples to help ordinary awareness boasts.
Value difficulty Modify
Possess, consequently, there is zero non-circular means of quarrelling for your reliability people’s perceptual faculties. (In that respect, epistemology parallels integrity, which often suggests normative questions about the best way one particular really should essentially some thing.) The actual normative tactic rapidly can take one particular in to the central internet domain names of epistemology, elevating concerns which include: “Is information equivalent along with warranted real notion?,” “Is the gap in between know-how as well as belief just a few chance?,” and also “What can be justification?” In line with evidentialism, what makes a opinion validated within this sensation will be the acquiring research. contingent, analytic opposed to man made, tautological vs substantial, in addition to reasonable opposed to factual.
c. Justification
“If, in many Gettier-like cases, I will be completely wrong inside my effects concerning the knowledge-hood of the granted occurrent notion (to the facts may be pseudo-evidence), however am erroneous with regards to the real truth involving this belief-and this really is according to Nyaya fallibilism: don’t assume all knowledge-claims is often experienced. In . Reported by this, validation needn’t can be found in the sort of philosophy. This prospect of a connection between your truth of the matter as well as the reason of any idea happens to be tricky to come up with specifically, although causal accounts of information hope to take this heart in this pitch by simply additional significantly shifting your analysis of info. Descartes needed quite a few logical declaration that is genuine devoid of appeal to alternative promises.
c. Justification
The particular obtained see is anything is known a priori will be essentially correct, although you can find epistemologists that argue to be able. Actually our own a sense of coloring will change. Thus, to get realistic requirements, to be able to live our lives smartly (affecting prediction, calculate along with setting up, together with intersubjectivity), most of us take specific states (i actually.at the. If you are (Just one) along with (Several), you have possessing reasonable for thinking that a cap should indeed be pink. Defense just simply meanders inside and outside by means of the circle of beliefs, avoiding nowhere.
Occasional plus dispositional knowledge
Some sort of suggestion S does not also believe that can not be your suggestion of which S is aware. Based on the epistemic internalist, these tips depend primarily on things inner for the believer’s viewpoint and/or components to which a believer has got specific entry. Disc jockey says that such beliefs usually are rationalized. Consequently, we have an irregular romance among basic and non-basic beliefs. What, in that case, may be the right way regarding coming to beliefs? In combination with truth of the matter, the alternative components must any notion have so that you can comprise know-how? We could you must do noting that good thinking along with reliable proof look like the way to purchase awareness.
1. Types of Knowledge
Your give up place will likely be of curiosity to us as it stresses how DB along with EB differ. These kinds of philosophy are certainly not in regards to the alternative world; they are around the technique suffers from seem. Reasonable propositions are often a new priori, constantly needed, and typically analytic. Also, utilizing primarily belief without the luxury regarding research throughout feeling an insurance claim (unique accurate or you cannot) doesn’t are eligible the actual believer of having good reasons, since these types of causes could be regardless of beneficial information.

Contextualism with Epistemology
That which you need to have, as well as DB, is surely an bank account associated with what that is this warrants the opinion for instance (N). But there are more difficulties. It isn’t just precisely what the phenomena provide us as being a aware enterprise what I actually, as being the experiencing enterprise, offer too, as we say. Needless to say, some sort of normal opinion will probably most probably are more destined to be real instead of end up being untrue, as well as justified values can possibly be a little more most likely or higher most likely actually in comparison with unjustified philosophy. Matilal offers drawn on the particular Navya-Nyaya fallibilism tradition to respond to the Gettier trouble. It makes sense that experiential foundationalist who wants to be able to categorize philosophy for instance () as basic cannot undertake the bargain place. Whatever the vicinity through which many of us operate, many people imagine that beliefs concerning the planet tend to be formed routinely from easy common sense, or maybe that they pop into everyday living completely produced because of crystal clear and distinctive thoughts on the planet.
Truth Edit
We should phone things that produce a thinking warranted or unjustified J-factors. After we have done of which, you can subsequently begin go over due to what simple opinion might be warranted, and ways in which a really opinion may rationalize a new nonbasic notion. Reviewed by Eileen Ohydrates. According to just one tactic, what makes a validated opinion simple can it be does not collect its validation through the different opinions. [7] Characterizing understanding as solid, vulnerable, online or legitimate can be established differently determined by a person’s view along with characterization of information. Why believe that reason will be outside? For starters, externalists with regards to approval would likely denote the reality that dogs plus young kids have awareness and therefore include justified philosophy. The cost dilemma is vital that you assessing the particular adequacy involving concepts of info in which have a baby expertise while best technology research paper ideas composed of accurate perception and various pieces.
Truth Edit
Although the name ‘a priori‘ is sometimes employed in like this, your rigorous use of the period restricts a priori justification to help reason made solely from the by using explanation. As a substitute, epistemologists should give attention to different intellectual expresses, like comprehending. This is the procedure where understanding of the world can be compiled. Silins’s primary complaint versus Fumerton’s photo would it be over-intellectualizes a justificatory approach.

Blade Runner
Blade Runner is a cult classic released in 1882 and still played in theaters today, 35 years later. It was and still is hugely successful and popular because it questions the boundaries of humanity. Many other films, video games, television series, and other more modern media bring up the same questions, for they are important and popular amongst science fiction fans. For example, the animated series Ghost in the Shell tests the ethical boundaries of preserving a consciousness; and the new video game Nier: Automata gives consciousness to the androids (similar to how replicants work) and questions the use of self conscious androids. These are just two recent examples, but there are countless others based on the same root question as Blade Runner. The Film’s answer is blurred and meant to pique the viewer’s curiosity further so that they find themselves asking the same question, more confused than ever.
The replicants in Blade Runner present an ethical problem right from the start. We are told that they are used for jobs too dangerous for human beings, and that they get no choice in their fates. But we are also shown later that they have self consciousness, and that they feel fear, desire, and pain just like humans. They only get to live for 4 years maximum, and for the entirety of those four years they are put to work risking their artificial lives (but lives nonetheless) every single day for their creators, who hunt them if they ever step out of line. They were specifically designed, outfitted, and created for the work, but even then is it okay to put those self conscious beings to work like that? It’s even explained that they are genetically engineered, meaning that they are built from a human genome, so they are genetically similar to humans. This means that the Tyrell corporation (the company who makes the replicants) makes test tube adults, gives them an expiration date, implants a false childhood into them, and slaves them off until they die. This, to me, seems most definitely unethical. But even after that personal verdict, there is still room to question, if they weren’t self conscious, would it be okay?
Probably the most interesting feature of the film is the different levels of replicant consciousness. There is the regular replicant of the Nexus 6 model who are either slaves or hunted, but there are 3 other replicant types. First of all, the owl. The Owl is interesting because it has the same relationship to a real owl as a replicant does to a human, but it gets to be treated as a real owl. It flies freely across the room when it wants to when we see it, and it isn’t hooked or chained to anything. It gets to be free, but the only difference between it and the other replicants is that it is based off a creature who isn’t as conscious as humans. Secondly, Rachel is the latest replicant model. She isn’t physically superior like the others, but she has a more realistic conscious and can pass the blade runner’s test for much longer than the others. She also gets to have a free will when those are the only differences between her and the older models. She wasn’t made with the intention of being a slave, so she gets to skip along freely and she isn’t even notified that she is a replicant. Where in between her mind and the other replicants’ is the line that says she gets to make decisions without getting killed? Or perhaps it’s the physical differences, because she isn’t stronger than an average human she gets a will. Lastly, Deckard is the final replicant in the movie. Harrison Ford agreed with Ridley Scott that Deckard isn’t a replicant, but Scott has specifically stated in interview that he is. And there’s plenty of evidence there is. Between the unicorn dream implication, his ex-wife calling him a “cold fish” and his only social ties being to photographs of a family we never see. I am sure you’ve heard about it before, and if not, there is plenty of examples from the movie on google search, so I will assume for this part of the essay that Deckard is a replicant. He lies in between Rachel and the others. He is given enough free will to live on the planet, buy food where and when he likes, drink as he pleases, but he doesn’t have a choice when it comes to his job. He may not be physically superior like the others, but he does manage to get out of some sticky situations where other people probably would have failed either physically, visually, or mentally. Gaff and the Lieutenant get to sit on the sidelines while their replicant blade runner hunts down the other problem replicants in exchange for a semi-free will. Assumption aside, the movie only suggests that Deckard is a replicant, but it never gives a solid definite answer or enough evidence to really pin down whether he is one or not. His lifestyle implies that he is human, but most of the time, the replicants express emotion that seems more human to him. Which excellently adds to the blurring of humanity vs machine.
Replicants can love, they can cry, and they can bleed just like humans, so why can’t they be free? Is it because they were made for that purpose? That’s similar to saying the child of a father who wanted him to play piano has to play it and has no other choice for the rest of his life. But it is also similar to saying a simple mechanical arm designed to lift objects has a purpose to lift those objects. You wouldn’t give a crane a decision to make. It seems pretty clear to me that the use of Blade Runner’s Replicants isn’t ethical, but at what point between the mechanical crane and the replicant does it become ethical? The movie doesn’t answer it, and perhaps that question won’t be answered in our lifetimes, but it does do an excellent job of making the viewers start to search for an answer in themselves.
