Five Men Arrested for the Murder of Salwan Momika Released

Five men who were arrested on suspicion of the murder of Salwan Momika have been released, the Prosecutor’s Office announced.

“The suspicions have weakened, and I no longer see any reason to keep the individuals in custody,” said senior prosecutor Rasmus Öman, who is leading the investigation.

On Friday, SVT received reports that the suspicions against the five suspects were too weak and that they would likely be released.

“All except one have no prior criminal records, and there were many question marks, even among police officers, since these are not the typical perpetrators usually seen in violent crimes,” said SVT’s crime reporter Diamant Salihu.

Prosecutor Had Until Sunday to Request Their Detention

The prosecutor had until Sunday to request the five men be detained. Now that this has not been utilized, questions arise, according to Diamant Salihu.

“Who was the shooter then? Do they even have an idea about other suspects?”

Salwan Momika, known for his Quran burnings in Sweden, was shot dead in an apartment in Södertälje late on Wednesday evening.

The five men who were arrested are said to have been near the crime scene.
