so because CS is all in hiding, they can't really be going to the store regularly (Kiki was going by herself w ridge for a while until everyone else showed up) for various reasons:
every member of CS stands out for being human on a moon that's almost entirely Vero
Jax and Edger specifically stand out for being bald
They can all go to the market but not all at once, and they can't really all go to the same parts of the market all the time for the risk that sharp vendors will recognize them. kiki's technically next in line for the throne but she gave up that claim (still has the title) and also tbh nobody knows what she looks like.
so when it's just Kiki, Ridge, Pai, and a few family members they manage just fine in the huge mostly empty house. the reset of CS comes and now they need way more food. Out of sheer boredom, Jax and co start making something serious of the garden at the back so they can grow as much of their own food as possible, especially when going to the market gets too dangerous (after there's a raid and after their kids are kidnapped).
It helps to keep all of them occupied too. lots of raised beds for the plants that thrive in those, certain kinds of fruit trees, a water system, maybe even a pond. theyd have to raise (small to medium sized) animals, too. a compost for everything, especially when they get into drying/canning foods for the long hauls of the empire breathing down their necks. at least the time periods of mass peeling and chopping yams is great for socialzing.
edger's a great help bc he finds a way to get all the pollinators and bugs they need into the garden while keeping out what they don't want. Jax and Cord and Marik will go hunting in the bush behind the home on occasion.
the basement is huge. who even knows how many freezers are down there. at the peak of the homes population, there's Kiki, Jax, their three kids; Marik, his wife/partner, their three kids; Ridge, Ule, their four kids; Ratchet, his wife, their one or two kids; Bliz, his partner; Edger, Cord, Kiki's aunt/second in command at the house, and some other family members. at the minimum 24 people not including the extended family beyond the aunt. the grounds are huge, the main house is massive but its massive in like the. designed to fit multiple generations kind of way. and like they've got other small houses (guest? houses?) on the property.
but yeah before Jax and the rest show up it is quite empty.

An appreciation post for the beautiful Giulia Farnese: she's so smart, kind, and caring. She believed in women's solidarity and showed deep care for Lucrezia, always delicate and tender with her. Giulia proved her worth and loyalty when she rescued Lucrezia from the hands of her abusive husband. Even when she learned that Rodrigo cheated on her, instead of being envious and hating the young artist he cheated with, she offered a threesome. She never disrespected Vanozza but formed a friendship with her. Giulia was also a great asset to the Borgia family, helping establish and strengthen the church's charitable works, securing the pope's legacy, and earning her brother a cardinal's hat. She only departed when her relationship with Rodrigo was no longer working, with his blessing.

“Their intentions aren’t exactly a secret. Government programs that attempt to redress decades of racist policies would be eliminated should Trump be elected to a second term. “As President Trump has said, all staff, offices, and initiatives connected to Biden’s un-American policy will be immediately terminated,” Trump’s campaign spokesperson, Steven Cheung, told the news outlet.
A top Biden campaign official said Black voters needed to pay close attention to Trump’s plans.
Trump is “making it clear that if he wins in November, he’ll turn his racist record into official government policy, gutting programs that give communities of color economic opportunities and making the lives of Black and brown folks harder,” said former Rep. Cedric Richmond (D-La.), one of the co-chairs of the Biden campaign. “It’s up to us to stop him.”
The warning comes as polling shows Biden’s level of support from Black voters has slipped. Democratic strategists have some fear about GOP plans to target Black men in the coming election. And they have major fears Black voters could stay home or vote for third-party candidates. Highlighting Trump and Miller’s plans could raise the stakes of the election for Black voters.
Miller, who pushed white nationalism and xenophobia in leaked emails, is at the heart of the effort. America First Legal, the right-wing nonprofit group Miller founded, has filed over a hundred lawsuits against “woke” corporations — like Disney, Mattel and Nike — that it alleges discriminate against white men. These complaints — many of which cite the 1964 Civil Rights Act — are laying the legal framework for Trump’s Justice Department to eliminate programs designed to counter racism, Axios notes.
Jasmine Harris, director of Black media for the Biden-Harris campaign, said the report should worry Black Americans.
“This report, in addition to all of the recent examples of shameless racism by Donald Trump and MAGA Republicans, serves as a warning to Black America: Donald Trump is a selfish and vindictive man who doesn’t give a damn about Black people,” Harris told HuffPost. “He will make our lives worse by using the very laws that the pioneers of the Civil Rights Movement fought for, against us.”
Miller’s group is not alone in the effort to roll back DEI initiatives.
The right-wing think tank Heritage Foundation crafted Project 2025, a sweeping playbook that lists policies and initiatives for the next conservative administration. The initiative is open about its goal to reshape the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division. One of the mandates within the playbook is to “reorganize and refocus the DOJ’s Civil Rights Division to serve as the vanguard for this return to lawfulness.”
Trump has affirmed to supporters that he aims make good on his promise to eliminate DEI. “We will terminate every diversity, equity and inclusion program across the entire federal government,” he told a crowd in Rochester, New Hampshire, in January.”

[Foxes burrow along the meadow. I remain overstory, I pine with the pines. An unkindness of ravens repeat your words. This merciless water's clear as a mirror. Reflecting day breaking into endless night.]

i'm kinda struck by how vanozza and juan's dynamic is giving a clever conceited lioness and her furious cub (not saying this in an uwu way ofc but also like in the most flavorsome way possible). like i keep thinking about how juan doesn't want to get married which allows him to spend more time with vanozza in her house and she's been so fond of him and attentive to his humor...i'm also intrigued by how he becomes aggressively protective of her when her husband calls her 'dear', using violence to assert his father's primacy in his mother's life over the commoner, and likely to overcompensate for his powerlessness and mask his insecurity and fear of not actually being rodrigo's son. then he kisses her head and acknowledges vanozza's hardships as his mother who endured the romans' slanders. him going berserk when benito sforza taunts him about his mother not loving him much. and when he spirals after realizing that none of his beloved ones (especially his mother and sister) see that everything he did/does was to protect them, even if misguided, he spitefully hurts them back with his words and actions. and when he died she never even mourned his death...it's such a tragic mother-son dynamic that needs to be studied even more imo
