The premise, while not terribly original, could've been fun (heck, I'm pretty sure it has been in like, half a dozen similar Halloween movies), but the dad character's constant obnoxious shtick just sucked all the joy out of this. Lauren Lapkus looked very cute in that little orange pumpkin outfit, though.

You already know I have. Guess what I watched again last night? The Curse of Bridge Hollow. The film that Erica from ST is in. @foreverautumn89

I remembered how we talked in depth about how Forever Autumn and Curse of Bridge Hollow have such similar storylines. They're still different and both great in their own right.

When I was watching it I remembered our discussion about this last year as soon as the decorations started coming to life.

I can't wait to see my neighbors put up that tree decoration thing that reminds me of the Hervoken. It is so creepy and scary. 🎃🎃🎃

The Curse of Bridge Hollow (2022)

A new family moves to a town obsessed with Halloween but when they discover an old lantern that brings the decorations to life they must alter their world view to accommodate the arcane.

As far as effects went it was fairly efficient. There was a good range of monsters as there are a lot of horror tropes at Halloween but it also meant that some of the effects could be fairly cheap, since it was cheap decorations coming to life. Even so there wasn’t laziness to the effects and some CGI was included for things like the spiders.

One of the most variable aspects was the rules of the magical virus. It brings somethings to life enough to allow witches to fly or plastic spiders to make actual webs, however the zombies can’t turn people and it doesn’t affect things like costumes. There was some attempt at character development of a superficial kind, specifically scientist-to-believer, and healthy-eater into indulger but those didn’t feel like particularly useful messages.

There was something of a climax but it mostly involved the army that had built up standing around, however there was at least a decent main antagonist with some pyrotechnics. The ending didn’t have an unsatisfying twist but there was at least something and it was vague enough to be intriguing but not vital to get a sequel.

The solution was fairly straightforward, it could have done with more of a twist or at least something more unusual but it was pretty basic as a plot. The three school friends could also have used more character development or relevance to the plot. Most of the comedy was ok but nothing especially notable and the character quirks were about average.

Halloween watchlist no 3: the curse of bridge hollow

Totally forgot that I (re)watched this movie like 3 weeks ago, but I did, so I guess it’s going on the watchlist lol. And I gotta say: it’s pretty good! It’s not, like, the best movie of all time or anything, but it’s a cute and fun Halloween movie. The cast is great, and the setting is so fucking cool. If America didn’t suck politically so much then you KNOW I would be moving to a haunted little town in New York asap.

In terms of plot, we follow Halloween enthusiast and ghost believer Sydney Gordon (Priah Ferguson) and her science-obsessed Dad (Marlon Wayans) on a quest to defeat an evil entity who has brought all of the Halloween decorations to life. The father daughter duo works really well, and it kind of reminds me of Elf, with the cynical dad and nick more gleeful child. It’s not a groundbreaking plot or anything (I’m sure there’s a similar story in goosebumps lol) but, you know, it works. It’s very fun and the movie does a lot to add its own flair to the story. I think that it’s pretty good! I’d definitely recommend this as a fun Halloween thing to watch if u haven’t seen it. And it’s got Kelly Rowland in it, which is always a plus!

Rating: I’m gonna go with 7/10. It’s not perfect, but it is very fun, and for me that’s all I need lol.

Watching The curse of bridge hollow for the first time and…not surprised that it isn’t more popular

The effects look great! Other than the spider webs, the killer klowns are super cool and just as scary as when I was a kid

Buuuut…the constant use of g*psy(although the Romani ppl are portrayed in a better light being the ones who wanted to stop the antagonist) and the lack of knowledge about satanists is just questionable in such a modern movie

It would be better if they actually did research, basically
