right now my favorite Clara Oswald moment is after The Crimson Horror where the Doctor tells her casually that she's the boss and she plays it cool until she gets home and then her strong independent facade finally falls off and she's so tickled that he called her that. like. it makes her day. she can't get over it. give me more of that Clara

things we Don't Really Talk About in the Doctor Who fandom (although we really should):
Tumblr media
this Scooby-Doo scene, mainly because it takes place in the same episode as this:
Tumblr media
and this:
Tumblr media
-
this interspecies couple:
Tumblr media
and their children:
Tumblr media
-
this creepy lady and her leech:
Tumblr media
and how she turned The Doctor into this:
Tumblr media
-
those few episodes with this kid who was sort-of-not-really a companion:
Tumblr media
and The Doctor was essentially on the future space version of Big Brother:
Tumblr media
and this was the bad guy:
Tumblr media
also Scotty was in it:
Tumblr media
-
these awful dolls that came to life and turned other people into dolls:
Tumblr media
-
that time The Doctor and team saw this message on the surface of Mars:
Tumblr media
only to discover Victorian soldiers there:
Tumblr media
and the baddass Empress Martian:
Tumblr media
-
that time everyone got sucked into the tv:
Tumblr media
and promptly lost their faces:
Tumblr media
and The Doctor went all Mary Poppins on a misogynist:
Tumblr media
-
my least favorite, the first time Mark Gatiss appeared:
Tumblr media
and turned into this:
Tumblr media
-
and my most favorite, that time there was a (presumably) cis pregnant man:
Tumblr media
and when asked if it was a girl or a boy, said that both male and female people of his species could get pregnant - and that men gave birth to boys, and women gave birth to girls.
and the bad guy of the episode was Just A Little Guy who ate everything:
Tumblr media
(including a bomb. and not only did it survive, it was finally sated!)
-
these are out of order but there are definitely more. and the point is, like... Doctor Who is weird. it always has been. this isn't even counting Classic Who, as I haven't watched much of it.
and I think we should talk about the underrated episodes more. because they have some really poignant moments:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
and also...
it's just fucking hilarious, dude

eleven 'murderkilling is perfectly fine, i can even be sarcastic about it, as long as the dirty work isn't done by me' doctor. the 'rules' he swears by are great. once saw him described incredibly aptly as a card-carrying hypocrite. oh but of course gun violence is evil and must be avoided at all costs unless it's to be committed by his Specially Selected Shoot People Sidekick Squad. that's what the paternoster gang are for. and river song
(just so we're all on the same page here this is a PRO VIOLENCE post. some villains are beyond negotiation. you can't reason with a eugenicist cultist that plans to plunge the earth into a sticky-sweet inferno starting with her daughter)

Hot take: The crimson Horror should have been a doctor-lite story. The paternoster gang should have only found the dr at least 3/4 into the story

We do not give enough attention to Ada Gillyflower. I get that there's a lot of one off side characters in Doctor Who that are great for one episode and then are never heard from again (or only come back like once very minorly like Liz 10), but Ada's story is such a particular tragedy that has injustices so infuriating and heartbreaking, and yet comes to a hopeful and powerful resolution. It's just really stuck with me ever since I first watched The Crimson Horror.
I hope Ada found peace and got to live a happy life. She deserves it.

I'm glad you're liking 11 being so violent and unforgiving, I remember when the crimson horror aired, people were like ":( but he could've tried talking her out of it..." no no he shouldn't and couldn't have
having every single one-off villain in your show be redeemable is what turns it into steven universe (not derogatory, but childish). doctor who is dangerously close to that sometimes ofc, being as it is about the power of words to save as many lives as possible and all that, and don't get me wrong, it definitely should stay that way, because some shows are gritty and violent and it's not supposed to be one of them (thank god) but all the same it does hit ever that little bit harder when bargaining and persuasion don't work because they wouldn't work irl. not everybody deserves redemption. ms gillyflower was straight up fascist, not even subtextually, textually ('preserving' the fittest and strongest, an 'army of supermodels'. eugenics not as an allegory, but actual fucking eugenics.) it is always a moral imperative to let fascists die. they bring it upon themselves
let's not forget 'no second chances. i'm that sort of man.'
