in my opinion i think the opla did a very good job of trying to emulate the one piece manga and anime, but there’s a part of the anime that they can’t really convey through the live action. like… i think that the cartooniness of one piece, as well as the occasional emotional moments is what makes one piece one piece, but while the opla was able to get some of it, being a live action, it wasn’t able to convey all of it

it’s still wonderful, and i love it, but i like to compare it to the percy jackson movies. good live actions in their own right (still think opla did it WAY better) but compared to the original, it falls short (percy jackson a lot, opla a tiny bit)

i think the main issue for me is the characterisation. inaki did a very good luffy, but you can clearly see how it’s so inaki luffy instead of luffy luffy. still good, but still different

and i think mackenyu did zoro well, but in my opinion, it doesn’t fit him very well. zoro (while i still love him) isn’t as pretty as mackenyu is. mackenyu is too much of a pretty boy

i actually remember hearing in an interview that mackenyu grew up with anime, and of course one piece. i think he emulates zoro extremely well, and he tries his best to make it anime accurate, but he as a person just doesn't fit perfectly, the vibes are kinda off. still absolutely in love with him though

i think that it shouldn't have skipped so many parts of the original, but of course, it completely makes sense why they did

anyways, like i said, i think that if you don't compare them to each other, it's very good, and i do love how they did it (i'm also so happy that so many people loved the live action that they're actually starting to watch the anime!!)

My biggest fear when the adaptstion was announced was precisely that, bc one piece is so one of a kind, it can make you smile, it can make you sad, you cry tears of joy and of pain, and the anime takes the time to develope the charecters, the stories and the world, so sometimes the emotions are conveyed in such a subtle but effective way bc they took the time to make sure it did. Not to mention the tone and aesthetic. There's a lot that was gonna be difficult to translate to live action

That said, so far i think they did it great! I think they found a certain balance between the cartoonish and the 'real world' lets call it, and they took advantage very cleverly of cgi and practical effects to achive that too.

I agree the thing that perhaps lacks for me too is the charecters and also the pasing imo. But again, it was impossible to fit the storytelling way of the famously 'too long' anime in a 8 episodes per series format.

I too think Luffy feels the most different, i already talked a bit about that and i think it was just the result of it being a western production plus the complex charecter Luffy is. But Iñaki put so much love into his Luffy, you can feel it, its endearing

I dont have a problem with Mackenyu's Zoro funny enough. Sure, i miss how silly anime Zoro can be (but again, the tone thing) and they tried to make it too purposefully imo. Zoro is not edgy. He is badass and a maniac but he doesnt want to wear only black or cares about pressenting an "attitude". But there's a ray of hope for me (i havent finish the show so it might change my mind), the biggest stupid ass smile when he said he'd cut Helmepo's hair. He can be silly and less serious, so i hope i get to see more of that as he feels more comfortable in the crew.

Nami i like, im waiting for the Arlong park arc to make up my mind bc thats where her true colors shine either way. Really liking her dynamic with Luffy so far tho

And Usopp, i just met him and this might sound mean but this Usopp is too cool. Kinda like what you said for Zoro. I think this Usopp has more confidence in himself than anime/manga Usopp did back then and he is not that much of a coward. The coward part is important bc every time he stood up to fight it meant so much more. But again, is early for me to make up my mind this is just first impressions

But like you said, this is just bc of the comparison, on its own i think they are all doing amazing jobs and, so far for me, the writers managed to pull off something that to me was next to impossible and in a great way too.

Im curious to see how someone that hasnt watched the anime reacts to the mixed tone of live action meets silly cartoonish vibes, i hope its not too of context for a first time watcher

a separate post for my ramblings for this fic!! it’s actually the longest thing i’ve written in a while, so i have a lot to ramble about haha;;

prelude

oh man... this started when two of my friends decided to go through edgar’s route at the same time AND also decided to go reacting to every single part of the route through burst texting AT THE SAME TIME, effectively flooding my inbox.... they were fully aware that i was at a seminar and unable to reply... now my inbox is filled with so much edgar screaming i cannot... (゜▽゜;)

screaming aside they were also very willing to read whatever drafts of edgar/mc i had available and this was their favorite!! thanks to them, i decided to finish this omfg... i’m actually so proud that i got this done but tbh it was getting so long that i had half a mind to let go of it already halfway through scene three haha... (;*△*;)

this has uh... some fighting scenes and tbh the first draft had absolutely none of it... this is my first time actually writing long(?) scenes and while i found thinking about them to be fun, putting them into words was some struggle??? like... i've been told that it looks okay but idk it feels clunky to me. oh well ＼| ￣ヘ￣|／

general stuff + war phase, baby!

initially this was only meant to be 3 parts + primarily focused on edgar/mc + with an unnamed mc as usual! but then since it’s an au of kyle’s route, i found myself wanting to flesh out the relationship of edgar & mc when set in a different angle + circumstances rather than just automatically implying attraction...

plus their relationship canonically starts off on the wrong foot in that route & edgar’s fully aware that mc isn’t exactly comfortable around him, so it really doesn’t sit well if i just... put them together, lol. so thus we have five scenes of them getting(?) closer!(???)

in short its a hella slow burn and not gonna lie, when i was writing their scenes i was like f i n a l l y... bless... ಠ ּ͜೦

one of the reasons i like kyle’s route is bc i actually got some feel of an actual war??? idk i think there’s so much plot that u can fill in with it, so i decided going for alternating scenes of the battlefield + med tent. while there's glimpses of the action going on, there’s also the sort of complimenting(???) or offsetting more emotional perspective of what goes on with the medics. 

tbh i stared long and hard at the cradle map when formulating some tactics and i gotta say i had a hard time calming myself down bc... 

in kyle’s route, the red army has the advantage and have pushed the black army as far back as to their bridge, which means that more or less they’ve occupied central quarter... but what dawned on me was... where the hell did the red army position their encampment from there??? 

was an encampment even necessary given that they’re like, in a really convenient area????? they probably could’ve settled themselves in some houses but tbh okay maybe it isn’t so noble of the reds to do (imposing themselves n’ stuff) + they have larger numbers so accommodating all of them is a problem but still... where’d they set up camp??? u see, when kyle + mc step out of the med tent it shows the forest bg, so... where??? on the edges of the central quarter area are where u can see them trees??? on the civic center roof?!?!

well... a decent answer is that they could’ve set up several encampments around the area to ensure their hold on the central quarter... it still raises some questions but honestly it makes a lot more sense... but if not and they really decided to camp out like one big happy family all together, then don’t even get me started on the possibility that the camp was stationed somewhere around here:

because doing that doesn’t have a single lick of sense omfg especially tactics-wise haha... that’s like... why would you do that... you’re wasting all your advantages... o h  b o y... so you bet when i remembered that mc + loki had to pass by a forest to get back to the encampment + encountered ray & some disciples i was like... u m m... why???? if technically the reds took hold of the whole central quarter area then it actually isn’t necessary to skulk around in the forest?????? yes yes i know safety precautions + avoiding detection but... dood... it’s safer to walk in claimed territory rather than the unstable one ahaha...

plus the thing about the black bridge... uh... it's just said in the route that lancelot handles it through magic and that's all. but when i thought back on it oh my god... what did he do??????? how is he still standing??? how much of his lifespan did he shave off just to salvage that situation??????????? how is the poor boi alive?????????? the whole fucking bridge literally falls apart and that's a whole lot of chaos and people and AHHHHH!?!?!¿¿¿¿ if ur gonna make the bridge collapse (good thing they didn't think of disintegrate) it probably cost the magic tower a hefty amount but get rekt lancelot still saves the fucking day, what a king - he's practically got one foot in the grave already... this dood, seriously ಥ_ಥ

there were other things i noticed in the process of writing this based on the route events but i was like fuck it, let’s think on that another day and leave it as it is (┛ಠДಠ)┛彡┻━┻ ily kyle but oh no my brain started reprocessing the other details of ur route

thinking about all that also made me think of other more stuff, like cradle economy + livelihood haha;; it’s stated in edgar’s route (well... it’s actually pretty obvious in other routes too) that the reds are richer than the blacks, so i went ahead and assumed that the former engages in something more lucrative like mining -> jewerly / raw material / mineral trade, while for the latter something more wholesome like agriculture. idk, it works. even moreso that the reds give off the whole nobility vibe while the blacks are simple and casual. even the bg screens of the red & black streets are polarizing.

then i also went over the rest of the chosen thirteen... while the reds show no obvious weapon variety (see: swords), i’d like to believe that they’re taught to be versatile enough no matter what the situation. plus, since they have the funding, i'd like to think they're skilled in magic manipulation, too. meanwhile the black army shows weapon variety, and i’d like to think that it’s because most of their recruits aren’t soldiers in the first place: they’re farmhands / hunters / village people turned soldiers, and it’s actually easier to let them go with what they know first before encouraging them or asking them to learn something new. thus axes and spears and possible unconventional stuff like caltrops.

one of the things i realized was in kyle’s route, mc isn’t exactly so buddy-buddy with the red crew in comparison to other routes. she gets minimal interactions with the four, and zero aside her relationships with the top three are rather... tense.

zero was the other red officer i was initially going to add aside from edgar & kyle, but i added all of them anyway. while they don't appear all together, all of them have scenes together with edgar.

the first edgar & jonah scene shows an obvious contrast - while he's being incredibly critical about it, jonah shows actual concern for the living situations in black army territory. on the other hand, edgar chooses to tease him about it, his joking more or less implying that he isn't that concerned / bothered about it at all. the game touches up on this sometimes, often with edgar commenting on how noble jonah is while jonah shows obvious distaste for edgar's callousness.

still, they work well together. personally i'm amused with a hc of mine that looking at how edgar fights / acts only spurs jonah to act more honorably while for edgar, being exposed to jonah's noble-ness more or less makes him curious to try being honorable from time to time lol. that still doesn't stop anyone from calling him the gentle demon tho ( ⚆ _ ⚆ )

tbh since edgar is obviously sneaky on other routes i wouldn't put it past him to casually pressure lancelot to tell him wtf's going on with this war when he gets the inkling that something's wrong. edgar goes about this subtly not-so-subtly and in the most polite manner possible. lancelot knows him far too well to take bait tho - he makes sure to speak carefully since he's probably knows that edgar's going to pick apart at his words for meanings + implications, so it more or less leaves edgar a bit frustrated since it's clear that lancelot won't tell him much. still, edgar knows when not to cross the line - even he's not so keen on getting on lancelot's bad side.

that aside, i'd like to think that edgar respects lancelot a lot as a person + commander enough that he'd truly risk his life for him on instinct like a true soldier would. while i think i could've done more on writing the gravity of the collapsing bridge scene, i liked the last bit where edgar + zero immediately worried for lancelot.

let's be honest here tho in some way or another all of the reds chosen worry about their king bc bruh... let us in bruh...

the scenes of zero & edgar in the end are also my favorite! it isn’t much, but enjoyed writing their relationship briefly. tbh i think edgar is one of those people under the sleep = most vulnerable = death thinking (no thanks to claudius), so the fact that he allows himself to drift to sleep twice in zero's company is a definite sign of trust. then again, he's injured but still ( ᐛ )و

edgar, idike, kyle

y’know even if this is an edgar/mc thing, i found fleshing out the kyle/mc relationship equally important which i presented in scene three. personally speaking, i’d like to think that if ever kyle didn’t fall in love with mc (on his own route???) he’d still be watching over her anyway since her struggle in the medical field + war reminds him a bit of his younger self after his brother's death.

which is why he doesn't intervene with that one soldier scene - he doesn't coddle her either when she goes into a brief shock. perhaps it's bc he knows so well what she's going through, he decides to let her handle it on her own. this was her experience, not his. and to be fair, she asked to go to the front lines determined but wholly unprepared emotionally. he tried warning her, she wouldn’t listen. now she faces the consequences - how would she go about it?

i decided to slap a name into mc this time to highlight the trust plot: idk if i got it clearly across in the fic, but in times of war + for someone who’s been trained to be suspicious / cautious of everyone like edgar; secrets are a surefire way to catch attention + breed distrust.

tbh he's hella aware that the secret around her name is most likely personal and nothing dangerous, but it's better safe than sorry - by making sure she understands that keeping secrets wouldn't be of any good to her + situation, he gets reassurance that she really is harmless. how bad + seriously she takes it honestly surprises him tho, but then again she's been going through other stuff too so it all piled up.

idike isn’t my in-game name, but it’s the given name i spoke of in this ask, haha! initially scene five has her saying her full name (with surname), but i thought it would be more fitting if i didn’t lol ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

i tried to incorporate a mix of the personalities of edgar’s!mc + kyle’s!mc onto idike, tho at first i was only shooting for the latter - i think it kinda works??? while somewhat composed and determined (kyle’s), she still shows some naivete in her (edgar’s), especially concerning the ways of war + how secrecy & trust work in times of war.

i found emphasizing on her emotional struggle important, since it should be a big blow for her who’s never known the terror of war. the game touches upon on it a bit (tho it's post-med tent scenes) and i wanted to expand on it further since there are so many possible angles to go about it.

the i can’t heal you if you’re dead line sounds like something like shiro emiya might say but lol no i just remembered this p3 manga panel (pg 24) - its been years since i read it and i still love that line and i integrated it here... i was trying to expand that one scene for a while but then i just left it as it is.

in the catharsis scene where idike airs out everything, the fact that edgar fails to empathize with her + focuses more on her emotional state rather than offering actual help (advice maybe, but i honestly doubt he’d do that) reflects that he's still looking at her as an interesting creature and not her as a person. part 5 hints that this may be slowly changing, seeing as he called for her all of a sudden.

... idike probably keeps edgar’s glove as a token of friendship or smth haha ooPSSS i forgot to bring that back ahahaha..... ヘ（。□°）ヘ

Candy (Nat- Naive): A not all together newbie. Im sure she was delighted to get he codename... and then less delighted that there was someone already called ‘Candyman‘.

Scarecrow or just ‘Crow’ (Nat- Modest): A spooky man who’ll fit whatever roll he needed for. Very flexible. Has an easy personality to deal with though hes not very forthcoming about himself personally... might be better in a job like this.

Lock (Nat- Quiet):

Doc (Nat- Careful): He has a lot of information on almost everyone... aside from Sickle whos doctor is Emanuel. Hes not a fighter and refuses to evolve because his tail was mutilated and he can be a Slowbro anymore. Hes somehow gained a weirdly dark organ harvester rep... maybe because hes rarely seen and peoples imagination go wild... but to the people under his care hes just a nice, tiny guy who does a good job of patching them up quickly. He will smuggle drugs however because now he gets to work in better conditions under Sickle... hes also got a strange morbid sense of humor.

Wisp (Nat- Hasty): An ice queen type, kinda haughty and smug but shes got the skills to back that up so no one can talk shit. Like ‘sure shes an asshole... but shes not wrong‘. She tries to work WITH people just so she can get them the fuck away from her as quickly as possible. She doesnt appreciate people overstaying their welcome and prefers to go solo. If she needs a partner she prefers another woman or at least a pretty man... but someone like Link or Skim would be better.

Skim (Nat- Sassy): Honestly just a nod to Catwoman in general.

Father (Nat- Serious): A very religious man, mute, demands perfection. If you work for him and fuck up and embarrass him youre in for a world of hurt.  No matter how fond he may seem to be towards someone this is true. He doesnt play favorites and he doesnt want anyone under him to stagnate. You push yourself or HE’LL PUSH YOU. The operatives working under him are jokingly referred to as his ‘kids‘. Toward his equals he can be respectful... or maybe just tolerant.

Perma (Nat- Adamant): A cruel efficient lady. Has a thing for blades which is possibly why she has no trouble working for a guy like Sickle. The fact hes not interested piques her interest in him even more.

Gadget (Nat- Rash): Tries to be a fun gamer girl but her short temper makes it hard. Some suggest her codename should be ‘Tripwire‘ because of how unpredictably dangerous she can be... but she disagrees BECAUSE SHES A FUCKING DELIGHT. Can be a bit of a troll... and not the goofy fun kind (the malicious I’ll ruin your life if you cross me kind).

Blink (Nat- Calm) A Very obedient and very smart. Has a really droning dull voice and never loses his temper. Hes good at calming a certain Luxray down.

Mele (IDK)

Wool (Nat- Sassy) Plays dumb and pretty but hes rather clever and is a fun loving fella. Has a French accent. Master of disguise!

Wreckingball (Nat- Hardy): Has no real talent or skill. Hes just a tough bastard you call in if you need to fuck some shit up. Hes probably one of the more pleasant agents in Sickles crew and is chummy... probably not the greatest idea considering his coworkers are a bunch of shady assholes.

Mittens (Nat- Jolly): Hes another rather nice agent of Sickles. But hes not a dumbass like Wreckingball and has become of the head of the Sigma divison. He is a bit reckless tho. He can shoot his arms off and use them as weapons so he occasionally wears prosthetic arms and spends a lot of time with Doc.

Prick (Nat- Impish) Hes a smarmy lad who enjoys talking vaguely and annoying people. HIS NAME IS APPROPRIATE AND HE LOVES IT.

River (Nat- Naughty): Flirty and dangerous. Hes a killer but hes quick and efficient doesnt draw out anyones death. Not because hes nicer or squeamish or anything its because torture isnt in his job description. Hes great at getting people to think he honestly cares and like using built trust to crush his victims. He also like cucumbers! He somehow gets along well with Madam even though theyre both just being fake bitches.

Madam (Nat- Mild): Looks very dainty and delicate and uses peoples desire to please a pretty woman to take advantage of them. Shes not shy about minor edits to peoples memories to help her get away even though its illegal.

Cleo (Nat- Docile):

Sandstorm the Flygon (Nat- Adamant)... Her personality is like that of a strict teacher dont let her have a ruler unless you wanna get spanked. Shes neat and detail oriented and because shes so outwardly respectable... no one would ever suspect shes a fucking thief. Shes a collector of rare and valuable books and of course prefers original copies. Her social skills arent grea unless shes pretending to be someone shes not and gets embarrassed if she reveals too much about herself to anyone.

Cavendish the Tropius (Nat- Lax). Her personality is like shes on autopilot, she gets shit done but shes sorta checked out. Shed much rather just stay home but she also got expensive tastes and shes not rich.

Alkaloid (Nat- Lonely): A gloomy lass that craves companionship. Shes not great at making connections to people which is fine for her position but really wants to have someone to click with. After she lost her eye she became even more distant with people. Shes rather fond of Doc though their relationship is rather one sided... her projecting some strange friendship on him because he cares for her and keeps her secrets... but hes a doctor and its kind of his job.

Blanco (Nat- Quirky): A vain dramatic ladies man. Is a skilled in his job (of course) but he hates when hes gotta tone back his extravagant life. After a long job he likes to surround himself with lively people and have some fun. He thinks he works VERY well with others and thinks himself a perfect partner.... most find him obnoxious and a lot have told him so... he just takes all criticism as jokes and lets it roll off him. If nothing else hes very positive!

Mistletoe (Nat- Serious): He seems cold and scary but hes a man of honor (for a guy who tortures people for a living anyway). He refuses to harm anyone weaker than him and is very caring of children and will step in if he sees some injustice if he can. Rouge agents, traitors,and shit like that though... hes ruthless and is very good at prying information out of them.  His hobby of developing new and dangerous poisons/chemicals are often tested on whoever hes toying with. ((He should have spots on the light red parts of his jacket... I forgot them IDK how OH WELL. I wanna tweak his costume a bit anyways. Vileplume colors are so bleh.))

Dust (Nat- Calm): Outwardly very charming but theyre not as sweet as they seem on the inside. Dust doesnt need to bring their victims in any kind of room to do their dirty work and prefers using their dust and psychic abilities to just mind fuck their victims into submission.

The Candyman the Alolan Muk (Nat- Quiet) is an annoyingly patient man and the perfect guy to call if you need to teach someone a lesson. If no one else can do it... THE CANDYMAN CAN. IDK what that Mr Mime did but he pissed Sickle off... Candyman has one weak point and thats his poor eyesight... and he’ll get very annoyed if you touch his glasses.

Lee and his kids. (Sam and Sparky are his kids occasionally.) Hes a stronk boy but his health isnt the best... even Sam can feel a little guilty and worried when he causes trouble for his friend.

Alex is not an easy man to anger and hes very dangerous when hes angry but no matter how pissed off he is... just seeing Lee can sweep that all away. Alex can get away with a lot... but Lee still wont let him wear his preferred fighting attire. QQ so mean.

I revamped Boats friend Arcane. Hes a cop. ...he mostly hangs out with other dogs but also Boat. Nice guy, very righteous but also kind of a prideful asshole sometimes.

A friend pointed out it was odd that Jusis was on a train in the last fic, so, um, Jusis’s side of this happened. Please enjoy 1,400 words-ish of Millium poking 5000 holes in Jusis’s dumb plan to see his boyfriend on the sly.

This was a rather relaxing change of pace, Jusis thought from his seat on the train.  The car he was in wasn’t crowded, no one was fussing over him or spouting some itinerary of things that had to be done.  It was nice and quiet, and he was rather enjoying the peace…

And then the ARCUS chirped, indicating a new message and shattering the peace.

MILLIUM: HIYA, JUSIS!  ^o^  \o/

Jusis frowned.  Nope, not today, closing the ARCUS now, he will deal with this later.

Unfortunately, the girl was not deterred and kept spamming messages.  Annoyed, he went back to check them and found the following:

MILLIUM: JUSIS!  HEY! MILLIUM: HEY JUSIS HEY JUSIS HEY MILLIUM: JUUUUUUUUUSIIIIIIIIIIIIIS~~~~~~~!!!! MILLIUM: I KNOW YOU’RE NOT BUSY, I CAN SEE YOU!!!  8T 8T 8T

“What do you mean, you can—” Jusis started to say, then he finally caught it.  The tap-tap-tapping of a new message from one seat up, across the aisle.  He refused to look in her direction; that would mean he’d have to engage.  And as already stated, nope, not today, he will deal with this later.

Or he would if she hadn’t sent the next message.

MILLIUM: SO WHY ARE YOU ON A TRAIN ANYWAY?  DON’T YOU HAVE *WAY COOLER* WAYS TO TRAVEL??

Sighing, he finally tapped out a message back.  Honestly, didn’t she have anything better to do than bother him?

JUSIS: I wanted a change of pace, that’s all.  Traveling by train can be rather relaxing.

It technically was the truth, just not the whole truth.  Hopefully that’d be enough to placate her.

MILLIUM: OK, I GUESS I CAN SEE THAT.  SO WHY ARE YOU DRESSED LIKE YOU’RE GOING ON A HOT DATE?

Or not.  Jusis could see her peeking over the back of the seat and grinning like she’s got him.  Which she kinda did.  Damn it.  Time to deny, deny, deny.

Frowning even more deeply, Jusis looked down at his black button-down shirt and light gray pants.  All right, perhaps the lacing on shirt sleeves and the belt around his thigh was a bit much, but did it really look like he was desperate to “party down with Machias”?  Honestly, he had no idea what even goes on in her mind sometimes.  Still, this needed to be addressed.

JUSIS: One, no.  Two, do you honestly see him as the “partying down” type?”

Jusis failed to hold in a laugh.  If sick chess raves existed, Machias would definitely find one.  He proceeded to ignore the cheeky finger guns Millium was pointing his way and sent a message back.

JUSIS: So there you have it.  This is not “hot night club” attire.

Jusis removed his sunglasses and rubbed his temple with his free hand.  That girl is absolutely relentless sometimes, he thought.  And worse yet, she was actually on the right track.  He saw only two options before him: own up to what he was doing and chance more teasing, or keep dancing around the questions and definitely receive more teasing.  Making his choice, he put the sunglasses back on and picked up the orbment again.

JUSIS: … I will admit visiting Regnitz is part of why I’m heading to Heimdallr, yes.   But it is *not* a “hot date”; I simply wish to see more of the city and as a resident of it, he would make an excellent guide.

JUSIS: Putting who I am “smooching” aside, could you perhaps, say, go take a nap or whatever you normally would do on a train ride and leave me alone?  My personal affairs are none of your concern.

Closing the device, he turned his gaze to Millium, noting she had moved further down the seat towards the window.  For a hyperactive ball of energy, she’s quite clever, he noted to himself.  Looking at her allowed him to catch the person she was referring to out of the corner of his eye, and… damn it.  Double damn it.  He was certain he hadn’t been followed out of the mansion!  How was he found so quickly?!

JUSIS: … thank you for the warning.  That person is part of my staff; he must have been… concerned about my departure.  You have nothing to worry about regarding my safety.

Making a “V” with her fingers, Millium winked at him.  Subtlety, thy name is Orion.

MILLIUM: NO PROBLEM! MILLIUM: SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, YOU KINDA SNUCK OUT, HUH??  XD XD XD

He froze in place for a moment.  He was caught, and he knew it.  And with her mouth, everyone who was in their former class would know by nightfall that he had basically slipped away from his duties just to see his loud, chess-obsessed significant other.  Time to try to reframe this.

JUSIS: … I wouldn’t call it “sneaking out”, but I did decide to strike out on my own without advance warning today, yes.

MILLIUM: THAT’S TOTALLY SNEAKING OUT, DUDE!!!!  XD

JUSIS: It’s not “sneaking out” if I left contact information and instructions to contact me immediately if something urgent arises.

Jusis could feel his eye twitching.  How much longer was it until the train reached his stop?  He couldn’t recall, but it couldn’t be soon enough.  He briefly considered messaging Machias just for somewhat more rational conversation, but he might accidentally tip his hand if he did so.  Not that apparently his attire wouldn’t give his plans for a nice day out away the moment Machias set eyes on him anyway, if Millium was correct.  Triple damn it.

MILLIUM: HAHA, LOOK AT THAT VEIN IN YOUR FOREHEAD THROB!!  YOU REALLY *DO* NEED A DAY OFF, HUH??

Finally, a ray of hope.  He could work with this.

JUSIS: Yes.  Yes, I do.  And I would *like* to enjoy the rest of this train ride in peace.  So if I may, I shall be excusing myself from this conversation now.

MILLIUM: AWWWWWWWWW, FINE, I GUESS.  BUT CAN I AT LEAST SIT WITH YOU?  IT’S BORING BEING ALONE.

Jusis paused, staring at the orbment in his hand.  She’s far too energetic and noisy, but she did tip him off that he was being followed, and if he had to be pressed to tell the truth, it was a bit lonely sitting alone for him too.

JUSIS: … that depends, can you behave the rest of the way to the station?

He heaved a sigh before typing his response.

With an exclamation of “YAAAAAY!”, Millium bounced over to where Jusis was sitting and promptly took the seat next to him.  And lest Jusis think the end was in sight, she squinted at the design set in dark gray on his shirt.  “Isn’t that your family crest?” she asked.

His palm met his face for the second time this trip.  This was going to be a very long train ride, wasn’t it?

supernatural but the protagonists are mirai, dan moroboshi, ultra the man, and rei from mega monster battle: ultra galaxy legends. they have all the same equipment as they did in that movie

mirai is in charge of transportations as he is a Portal Boi, he also purifies with his flames. using their ultra forms is a last resort obvsly bc then yr just ASKING to cause property damage, but mirai can be an ultra in human size as well.

dan moroboshi is all "we mustnt let them realize were aliens here to protect earth" but then he dresses in Showa orange. he usually tries to capture the monsters in kaiju capsules for his kaiju to Vore. he is one of the first of the group to transform into ultra form bc he can inexplicably be human sized

ultraman is an old pilot with a gun. he has Seen Some Shit but has the sharpest reflexes of the group and prtects the younger ultras first. if all else fails he will use specium kousen to blow up the monsters

ray is a rayonix, so sometimes he can communicate with the monsters they encounter. he tries to persuade the monsters to stop doing that shit but if he gets in danger mirai protrcts him. ray and mirai are fucking just like in the movie and eventually ray meets another rayonix who will turn him evil. but mirai will turn him good again with the help of the crew

ray's exploration crew holds down the fort (the ultras' apartment) and sometimes they are protected by dyna who comes and goes. zero, king, leo, and astra are only called in during times of dire emergency. the rest of tlol makes sporadic cameos

rei only calls out gomora when gomora needs a snack, since these ghosts and shit are so tiny

hell is just any planet without pigmons

their code name is Metal Rhino/Steel Rhino tho, the metal/steel thing comes from his arms being made of metal, the rhino part is bc he used to be (and still kind of is) a shield guy in the front and tended to charge ahead, the shield is hella big. it’s kind of like rienhardt’s shield? even tho the character was made before reinhardt but lmao and then there’s also the fact he’s the bomb’s expert/was part of a demolition crew so he’d set charges.

they dont usually collect much? but like he has a lil shelf in his room where its like those animal figures of rhinos bc when ever someone else from the unit sees a lil figure of the animal from their codename they get it for them.

god he’s like the most calm person ever. like. theyre patient with ppl but when he’s fucking pissed he’s just. cold. and really. really harsh. he doesn’t yell at ppl but if you push his buttons enough he’ll just kind of Destroy you, with words of insult, og course.

he doesn’t insult ppl that often but he does like to call ppl chuckle fucks sometimes. they don’t bitch behind ppl’s back. theyre just passive aggressive when theyre insulting certain ppl, and it goes back to the angry thing if it gets to that point.

they would never tease someone for their fears, he’s a really protective person of his friends/family, so he’d probably make sure that unless they wish to overcome those fears, he won’t put them in a situation where they have to deal with those fears.

rations, water, combat knife, ammo. probably a lil good luck charm hidden in that bag as well. possible change of clothes. repair pack for his arms and first aid. demolition stuff.
