Summary:- A look into your life where you're Dante's Consigliere; and his wife.

Pairing:- Mafia boss!OC x Consigliere!Reader.

Warnings:- A lil spicy; just a little.

The clicking of your heels on the shiny tiled floor was the only sound in the top-floor lobby of DeLuca Corp. You come to a halt in front of the black double doors, which are made of expensive wood, as is everything else in the room, including the furniture, lighting, and decorations. The whole company screams 'money'. You knock on the door, hear a faint 'Come in', before pushing it open.

Dante DeLuca, CEO of DeLuca Corp and head of the Italian Mob, sits in the swirling chair behind the expensive oak desk. The sound of your heels entering the room alerts him to your presence. Dante lifts his head from the paper he was reading, his chocolate brown eyes focusing on yours. Leaning back in his chair, a small smirk forms in the corner of his lips as he looks you up and down.

You are dressed in a simple white silk top, matching dress pants, and a blazer. You looked sleek with your black heels, dark brown hair pulled up into a ponytail, and lips coated a soft red.

"I got the papers you wanted," you inform. Dante hummed softly as he rose from the chair, coming around to lean against his desk. Each miniscule movement causes the white shirt to stretch around his muscles.

"C'mere," he demanded. When you make no move to get closer, he presses a button on the side of his desk to close and lock the door. "Now, c'mere."

With a sigh, you move closer. When you were within touching distance, Dante's arms snaked around your waist, pulling you closer to his body. He leaned down and gently nuzzled your nose, mumbling, "Missed my pretty wife today."

A gentle laugh escapes your lips. "You just saw me two hours ago, Dante."

"Yeah, too long." He let out. Nobody would have known that the powerful and ruthless leader of the Italian mob was whipped for his wife.

"If I had my way with you, I wouldn't even let you out of my bed, love." He went on.

"Un-huh," you grin as you kiss his cheek. "I still have work to do."

"I know," Dante mumbles. He kisses your lips softly before leaning back. "So, what have you got?"

"Well, Nico has been able to dig up some dirt on the mayor, just in case he proves to be difficult," You explain.

"Good, I also need you to look into this too..."

By the time evening rolls around, you're more than ready to get into bed with your husband and unwind.

After arriving at the penthouse, you went straight to the closet to steal one of Dante's shirts. Your amused husband appears behind you, arms wrapping around your waist.

"Stealing, love?" He questions with a fond look.

You turn around in his arms, running a finger along his jaw.

"You mind?"

How could Dante possibly refuse you when you look at him like that. Pretty doe eyes half-lidded, lips pouty and soft. He's a man obsessed. God forbid that anyone attempts to take you away from him. Dante is well aware that he'd burn the world down in your name if anything happened to you.

He shakes his head no in response. Though, a sly look enters his eyes. "But this is going to owe you."

"Oh, really?" You drawl and press closer to your husband. "I think I'm fine with that. In fact, I'm more than willing to be in your debt."

Dante chuckles. Gods, he loves you.

Getting into bed, the two of you cuddle for a while, discussing the usual subjects about his empire and the current problems he's facing.

But soon your husband's hands begins to wander, sliding over your hips and playing with the hem of your shirt. He damn well knows he's going to find you bare if he pulls the fabric up. After all, he had seen you undress and wear his shirt earlier.

"What are you doing?" You mumble. Dante's eyes shifts to your face, sensing the tiredness in your voice.

"Is my pretty wife tired?" He murmurs. You nod, inching closer to press your face against his neck.

Your husband caresses the soft skin of your thighs for a while. He's not going to rile you up when he knows you're tired and just needs to rest.

'Guess we can have a quickie in the morning,' he thinks.

A short time later, he runs his hands through your hair, feeling the soft strands glide through his fingers. He massages your scalp gently, lulling you to sleep.

Watching you sleep is another one of his favorite things to do; the first one being making you laugh. You look so peaceful when you're asleep. The muscles relaxed and the weight of your constant worries lifted off your shoulders.

Dante presses a kiss against your temple, allowing his lips to linger for a moment, soaking up your softness and scent before pulling away.

"I love you," he whispers. You stir softly, mumbling an incoherent 'love you' before relaxing back to sleep.

Dante smiles. "My pretty wife."

I don’t go here in the sense that I haven’t finished the series yet. Like honestly, the cameo in Queen of Tears was what made me finally buckle down and watch it.

But I do know from spoilers the general gist of where they end up in the end. So the cameo has some pretty great implications - that in three years Chae rin managed to transform Jipuragi into such a big-shot law firm that even the Queen of Department Stores is their client, that Vincenzo possibly gives up his high-stakes mafioso life to take the bar in Korea so he can practice law there, that he would have obviously done so to start working at Jipuragi, that he didn’t pull his punches in that settlement because obviously he still has strong views about marriage, and it wouldn’t be far-fetched to think that Hae-in reminded him of another Hong in his life, and not knowing the full story, he’d definitely do his best to help Hae-in because he’s always been an ally of unapologetically strong women.

(In other words, nope, no will not take any other interpretation, he gives up all his wealth and power just so he can come home and work for his wife and fulfill his domestic office marriage dream.)

The google doc where I draft my posts is brimming with partially-written Sopranos posts, but it's also got this one draft that has been complete since...like January, maybe? I don't even remember. I don't know why it's taken me so long to post it, but here it is now.

I was thinking some more about the idea (which I wrote about in my s5 wrap-up post) that Silvio and Melfi (1) play complementary roles in Tony’s life in general, and (2) give Tony comparable advice in “All Due Respect” in particular. It occurred to me that not only is their advice comparable—they both argue that Tony is merely feigning noble motivations for protecting his cousin, and they both urge him to confront his true motivations—it’s actually perfectly complementary. Both the “false” and “true”* motivations that Silvio discusses are externally focused, whereas the ones that Melfi discusses are internally focused. In his speech defending his decision to protect Tony B., Tony S. had invoked the code that all these guys live by and for which they hold each other accountable: “We are a family [...] So we are gonna deal with this as a family, together.” It’s an argument based on interpersonal relationships and group values. Silvio, however, contends that it’s “not about standing with the guys or upholding some rules,” but the alternative explanation he offers is still situated outside Tony’s head, if that makes sense: “You don't wanna bow down” (to Johnny). It’s about “pride,” which is inherently about how Tony is seen in other people’s eyes. From Melfi’s perspective, Tony’s “false” motivation is “affection” (his word, which she echoes) for Tony B. Affection is an internal thing, a feeling, not a mode of behavior or a shared value. His “true” motivation is his “guilt and shame” over failing his cousin all those years ago, and this too refers to something primarily internal. I guess there is a pride element here as well in that what happened the night Tony B. was arrested is something he’s very much not proud of, but since Tony has never told the true story to Tony B. or anyone else other than Melfi, I think it’s fair to say that it’s mostly about how Tony sees himself, not how anyone else sees him.

What I’m getting at is basically an ethics (Silvio) vs. morals (Melfi) distinction. And of course it makes perfect sense that their assessments would complement each other like this: Silvio has a front-row seat to Tony’s leadership, he knows the code that he, Tony, and their bros all live by, and he knows Tony as a member of a community; all of that is only an abstraction to Melfi, but she knows things about Tony’s psyche that even his closest associates like Silvio don’t know, and she knows Tony first and foremost not as a member of a community but as an individual. I just think it’s so fascinating how they’re so coordinated in this episode without having the slightest clue of it. It makes me want to see both of them advise Tony at the same time. That would be fun. I wonder how that would go!

*Scare quotes because as I said in the other post, while I think Silvio and Melfi are both onto something, I also think they’re both unfairly simplistic in their assessment of what’s really motivating him. He can have noble AND selfish motives at the same time.
