I rate berries
before the science people come after me I know that some of these arenât berries. stay mad suckers
cherries are honestly kind of a hit or miss berry in terms of taste. a good cherry can be either totally sweet or a sweet-sour combo, but they should always steer well clear of bitter. theyâre just awful when underripe but itâs very hard to tell when theyâre ripe just by color unlike strawberries or other berries. texture is the first thing to go with overripening but mushy cherries are still okay up to a certain point. some points obviously have been deducted for the pit. 6/10
grapes should honestly be separated into subcategories but whatever. any kind of grape not made for eating (not a table grape) is awful. regardless of color, a good grape should be very firm and juicy. minimum of 150 N to bite through and a 70%-30% ratio of liquid to solid. all grapes are better cold. taste varies by color: purple grapes (as shown above) should be mostly sweet with a little sour, red grapes should be similar, and green grapes can get away with a little more sourness than the others (but still mostly sweet). underripe grapes are often bitter but overripe is the greater evil, as they turn mushy and lose flavor very quickly. contrary to popular opinion I would rank seeded grapes higher than seedless, since seeded grapes tend to be larger and jucier. overall though, 7/10, just for the exacting standards
blueberries are a berry of soaring highs and crushing lows. good blueberries are the fruit of the gods. I could eat a box of good blueberries as an entire meal. bad blueberries, on the other hand, are remarkably disappointing. good blueberries should be a healthy mix of sweet and sour, and as long as youâre eating them several at a time, they can withstand some overripe mushiness without losing quality. the killer truly comes in the taste. bad blueberries can be either overpoweringly sour or bland, both of which are usually constant through an entire box and both of which spoil the entire box. they should say âlife is like a box of blueberriesâ cause with chocolate at least you know youâre getting chocolate, whereas blueberries have a much wider range of badness and goodness. 8/10, since theyâre so good when theyâre good but brought down by the bad ones
as far as Iâm concerned, strawberries are the perfect berry. not much variance in taste, the worst a berry can be is mildly bland which is pretty good compared to some of the other berries here. perfectly bite sized, and the seeds arenât ever too intrusive. you can cut them into fun and interesting shapes. they can stand up to a great deal of overripeness and really arenât completely spoiled until they actually rot. judging ripeness versus underripeness is as easy as checking the color. 10/10, fantastic berry.
ah raspberries, the berry of kings. kings who probably had their servants take out the gazillion annoying little seeds before they ate them. raspberries are great on a lot of counts: they taste amazing with very little variance, and they are still great even after a great deal of mushing and ripening. what puts me off of them, though, is the seeds. theyâre too small and too numerous for removing them to be practical for us common folk, but they are large enough to be annoying. great taste though, which is probably their only saving grace. 5/10
same story as raspberries except they donât quite taste as good. bonus chance of being super watery and bland which is just too much coupled with the seeds. 4/10
I think I remember reading somewhere that bananas are a berry. honestly, a little too delicate for a higher rating. underripe and overripe bananas are equally abhorrent for different reasons, and the berry itself is far too easy to ruin by bruising. still, perfectly ripe bananas vary little in flavor, and if you catch them in that sweet spot theyâre consistently sweet and delicious. too bad Iâm allergic. 6/10
currants are decietfully gorgeous berries but they taste like soap. 0/10
cranberries shouldnât even be called berries?? you will regret eating one of these raw. they are a terrible mix of equal parts sour, bitter and bland. 1/10 because they are ok at thanksgiving I guess

Cutie Reviews: TokyoTreat Oct 19
I think Iâm doing pretty good progress wise, please be patient with me as I continue to try to review old boxes~
âOctober is here, bringing with it those spooky Halloween vibes! Halloween has been growing in popularity in recent years, and since Japan loves their seasonal snacks we had plenty of new, interesting items to choose from! In the spirit of being spooky but kinda cute, weâve created a Poke-Monster Night for you to enjoy! No sharing these tricky snacks though!â
For this months contest, the winner could receive figures of Naruto and Sasuke from Naruto, while runner-ups won a cute pokeball candy and stamp. Lucky Treat consisted of Full Metal Alchemist, Dragon Quest, AND three devil fruits from One Piece, the Gomu Gomu (Gum), Mera Mera (Flame), and Ope Ope (Operation. Also, they accidentally mislabeled as the âdark dark fruitâ). I was very excited that they included the 3 belonging to 3 of my favorite characters~
Pokemon Ramune & Strange Syrup DIY
(Please see top pic for images)
For this month, we get a basic, straight-laced ramune drink. Thank goodness :P as much as I like to try new flavors, sometimes I forget the original is probably the best... especially in comparison to those yucky flavors that Iâm still traumatized by <_< and this month we even get a really cute pokemon label.
Ramune is basically that âsodaâ flavor youâll see in Japanese candy. It has a sweet, sort of lemon-ish taste but its not sour. Itâs a little like sprite, but in my opinion it tastes way better. Itâs especially yummy whenever itâs warm out or if you worked up a thirst. Itâs also really fun to open because of the marble inside!
If you have ever wanted to try out Ramune, I would suggest checking on Amazon (they have a variety of fruit flavors too), or maybe the Japan Haul website (the website made through Tokyo Treat and its various brands).
- - - - -
The DIY I just included a bonus pic of because Iâve done it several times. Itâs a super-sticky, thick syrup like candy that only requires you to mix the 3 flavors, which are strawberry, soda, and lemon. Together they make grape... which looks like this:
Because this candy was a little old, I think it was a bit off. The lemon and soda flavors were fine, but I noticed that not only was strawberry orange instead of pink, which might explain this... greenish-honey color. Itâs usually a little purple if I recall.
Also, it didnât really taste like grape this time, and it wasnât as good in my opinion- but I guarantee if you open it as soon as you get it, it tastes much better. If you donât like sticky/gooey textures you might wanna skip this one though.
Halloween Milk Senbei & Bloody Cola Marshmallow
Since I subscribed like 3 years ago, Iâve only seen senbei in a box once; I was very excited to see it again! Itâs stuff like this I wish they would include more of, because I want to try the unique foreign flavors you know?
Anyway, the milk senbei is a plain, very thin melt-in-your mouth cracker-like snack that pretty much tastes like ice cream cone, but a teensy bit sweeter. This one comes with a cola flavored sauce to put on top of it. Each 1 (or one pack, not sure) is around 25-27 calories.
â„ â„ â„
I really like the taste of ice cream cones, I donât know why, I just always have. Meanwhile, the jelly/sauce is purple, but it indeed tastes like cola â„ itâs very yummy. However... together, they get a strange taste and that Iâm not very fond of. I canât even describe it, but its weird. But eating it in small doses is tolerable.
- - - - -
Speaking of cola, we also got a really cute marshmallow filled with a cola jelly! Itâs like they combined two of my favorite things~
â„ â„ â„ â„ â„Â
Itâs very soft and yummy, the jelly inside tastes about the same as the sauce from the prior item, but it tastes so much better with the marshmallow.
Apple Pie Kit Kat & Brown Sugar Sweets
Instead of orange kit kats this year, we get to see fun purple one :D these kit kats are inspired by an apple pie. As you can see they also come in a large pack to share with others or to eat yourself. Each pack is 65 calories.Â
â„ â„ â„ â„ â„Â
I love the coloring of these, first of all. Itâs such a pretty purple, and its fun too. The apple flavor is very prominent, and it has a very small hint of spice, while the wafer brings to mind a sugary crust. Itâs sweet, but mildly.
- - - - - -
These are popular for their melty and soft texture, with a very thin, crisp layer of rich brown sugar coating. Each one of these is 17 calories.
â„ â„ â„Â
These are kinda basic, but itâs a yummy sweet that isnât overly sugary. I think it goes good with the apple pie kit kat, and maybe some milk.
Disappearing Taste?! Mixed Gummies, ZomB Grape Gum, & Blue Green Soda Gum
We got 3 gums this month! Our first is very familiar, because weâve had this gum before. The only difference is this is its washed out, slightly different cousin. Basically, youâre given a set of flavors of gum, in this case yogurt, strawberry, orange, and white grape/muscat. You can eat them as is, or mix the flavors to make new ones, like a fruit drink, melon soda, or different fruits.
What makes this one special however, is that there is a special gumball that supposedly makes the flavor disappear? I mean, isnât that what gum does normally?
â„ â„ â„ â„ â„Â
This gum is really nice, you get a lot of them per-resealable pouch, and the flavors are always pretty good. Plus I like how the gum is smooth and soft in texture. I didnât really notice any difference with this one from the last pack I had other than flavors.
- - - - -
Next up, we have the ZomB Gum; a popular Halloween item that we have seen before; I think about 2 or so years back, when we got the red cola vampire version. What makes this gum really fun is that it colors your tongue as you chew it, and it has a delicious grape flavor.
â„ â„ â„ â„ â„Â
This gum has the same texture as the other gum, so I really like it. The color effect isnât nearly as strong as the package shows, but itâs a cute little gimmick, and it tastes great. The flavor lasts about 5 minutes.
- - - -
Our last gum is another brand Iâve had before. I have had both this flavor, and their cola version. Itâs pretty much the same concept as the ZomB gum (theyâre made by the same brand), but its in two sticks and you get a soda flavor, and a melon flavor.
â„ â„ â„ â„ â„Â
Iâd pretty much say the same things as I did about the previous two gums. All three were delicious and I would recommend any of them.
Poteco Pumpkin Gratin & Pringles
Here we have two salty, savory snacks for the box. But of course, the Poteco are not new to us, in fact I think last Halloween we got the exact same pack; minus slightly different packaging. Poteco is good and all, but I got so tired of seeing it that I tend to... shy away from it now. This flavor wasnât really that different from the original/normal Poteco either.
- - - - -
I was a lot more excited for this item, a unique pack of Japanese Pringles :D Looking at the package, this is a type of ramen or noodle bowl flavor. Itâs a mystery item in the booklet so Iâm not really sure, but for this small can it is 267 calories!
â„ â„ â„ â„ â„Â
Honestly, these are so yummy that I donât even care how many calories there are. The flavor is very strong, it tastes exactly like this cup ramen I like to buy. Trying to describe the flavor, I would say itâs sort of like beef or soy sauce broth, with a hint of a corn taste?
Pokemon Halloween Chocolate & Pikachu Gummies
These are both snacks weâve had before, so Iâll try to just gist this one.
These crispy snacks are shape like pikachu heads and come in fun, colorful packaging featuring a variety of Pokemon, while the back usually has a fun puzzle or image. Each bag is 83 calories and they are by the brand Tohato.
These are really yummy x3 they have a slightly bitter chocolate taste and remind me a lot of the coco crispy cereals.
- - - - - -
The other snack is also pikachu-shaped, but besides its head, there are also the occasional tail you might find ;3 These are by Lotte, and each pack is 90 calories. The flavor is grape and they taste really good too.
The only real thing to bother me about these is that they didnât cut the gummy around Pikachuâs ears. Itâs a minor thing but it bothers me a little.
Halloween Corn Potage Umaibo
Okay, so... because I talk about this a lot, Iâm not actually planning on saying anything about it this time :P long story short, corn potage Umaibo is the best.
Squid Legs & Halloween Pizza Corn Snack
Donât let the name fool you, these are not real squid legs- they just have a fishy taste. Iâve had these before too, and I have fairly complex feelings about them. On one hand they donât taste terrible, but I donât like seafood and the flavor is still unappealing to me. I like their crunchy texture though.
- - - - -
Next up is this corn puff snack featuring a delicious pizza flavor! They taste exactly like the pizza-flavored combos, if you never had those before I would recommend them too~
Pokemon Cola Chewing Candy
This is our final item... and now that I look at it, it kinda looks like a wafer cookie doesnât it?
Anyway, these are sticks of chewing candy that come in various series and flavors. Before we had some grape Thomas the Tank Engine ones, and this time we get some cola Pokemon. Each wrapper usually includes a unique design, craft, or puzzle of some sort.
â„ â„ â„ â„ â„ I donât know if these are hard because they had to sit around for a while, or because that is just how they are. I donât remember the Thomas ones being so hard, but they werenât as thick as these. But if you suck on them for a few minutes they soften up, or you can crunch them to softness. The flavor is very yummy, I think it might be my favorite cola flavored item in the box. Â
â„ Cutie Ranking â„
Content - 4.5 out of 5. Everything is very yummy, even though a fair amount of it was repetitive. I really liked it. Theme - 4 out of 5. Well, given the packaging and theme, I could say yeah they did pretty good. We had a decent amount of Pokemon items, but they could have done a little more too I think. Total Rank: 9 out of 10. I really liked this box, I just wish maybe we would have had a couple more unique items.
â„ Cutieâs Scale of Yummy â„
(Iâm sorry, but by this point Iâm not really feeling well. I want to finish the review so that I can go lay down DX)

The trick is to thicken milk with cornstarch and let it firm up in the fridge. </p> <p>Once solid, it is sliced into strips, dipped in bread crumbs, and fried until golden. I have a strong feeling this is going to be your new favorite snack.</p> <h2><strong>10.</strong><strong>Almond Cookies</strong></h2> <p>Sure, chocolate chip cookies will always take the number one spot in the worldâs best cookies, but itâs also nice to explore new flavors from time to time. </p> <p>If youâre looking for more unique and interesting flavors, how about some almond cookies?</p> <p>Theyâre crisp on the edges, crumbly in the middle, and sweet and buttery all around. </p> <p>These almond cookies will be your next obsession. Try them with a hot cup of coffee and trust me, it will be love at first bite.</p> <p>Theyâre also a snap to make. Itâs just a matter of mixing the ingredients together and baking them for 15 minutes. </p> <h2><strong>11.</strong><strong>Chocolate Chinese Five-Spice Cake</strong><strong> </strong></h2> <p>Clove, fennel, cinnamon, star anise, and pepper are five spices that are usually seen in savory dishes. </p> <p>In this next entry, youâll use them to make a chocolate cake.</p> <p>This unique cake is sweet and moist with a little hint of warmth and spice. </p> <p>The heat from the pepper adds such a slight zing that will make you want to take another bite. </p> <p>Itâs perfect for people who find chocolate cake to be way too rich. </p> <p>The spices give the chocolate an earthy contrast and balance out the flavors really well. </p> <h2><strong>12.</strong><strong> Eight-Treasure Rice Pudding</strong></h2> <p>Eight-treasure rice pudding is a dessert made with sweetened sticky rice. Itâs a lot like a mango sticky rice, minus the mango. </p> <p>Itâs sweet, sticky, chewy, and super delightful.</p> <p>This version of the traditional dessert stuffs the sticky rice with a sweet red bean paste and is garnished with various dried fruits and seeds. </p> <p>To top it off, it is drizzled with a fragrant chrysanthemum syrup that makes it smell heavenly.</p> <p>Wondering why itâs called eight treasures? â8â refers to the number of toppings added to the dish. Very precious, indeed.</p> <h2><strong>13.</strong><strong>Fried Bananas</strong><strong> </strong></h2> <p>Deep-fried bananas smothered with maple syrup and dusted with powdered sugar is a quick and easy dessert that sure hits the spot. </p> <p>Letâs be honest, nothing beats the goodness of deep-fried anything.</p> <p>Ripe bananas are already sweet, but coating them in batter and frying them enhances their flavor even more. </p> <p>The maple syrup adds a thick and sticky contrast that makes them even more addictive. </p> <h2><strong>14.</strong><strong>Chinese Sesame Cookies</strong></h2> <p>Similar in texture to almond cookies, sesame cookies are a crisp and crumbly snack made with lard. </p> <p>Flavored with nutrient-packed sesame seeds, these cookies are high in flavor and low in calories. </p> <p>Thatâs what I call the perfect combination!</p> <h2><strong>15.</strong><strong>Snowflake Cake</strong></h2> <p>Snowflake cake is an incredibly soft and irresistible cake made with potato starch, gelatin, coconut powder, milk, cream, and raspberries. </p> <p>Other fruits, such as blueberries, strawberries, and mango can be used in place of raspberries.</p> <p>This drool-worthy dessert is named such not after its appearance, but after the cooling effect it gives anyone who devours it. </p> <p>Served cold, itâs a fantastic way to cool you down on a hot summer day.</p> <h2><strong>16.</strong><strong>Sachima</strong></h2> <p>Sachima is a sweet and crisp snack made with egg noodles and sticky syrup. It seems such an unlikely combination, but it works!</p> <p>Deep-frying transforms the noodles into crisp treats anyone would love to snack on. </p> <p>Clumping them together is a sweet syrup that can be flavored with different extracts.</p> <p>Sure, it requires some effort, but once youâve learned the ropes, youâll find that the whole process is actually simple! </p> <p>Make it once and Iâm sure youâll be making it all the time.</p> <h2><strong>17.</strong><strong>Chinese Walnut Cookies</strong></h2> <p>Crisp, crumbly, and bursting with walnuts, these cookies will bring you eternal bliss.</p> <p>Unlike most cookies, walnut cookies arenât that sweet. So donât be surprised if you find yourself popping them in your mouth one after another! </p> <p>Fortunately, they donât contain as many calories as other cookies, so go right ahead.</p> <p>Apart from the flavor, these cookies also smell amazing. Walnuts give off such an appetizing aroma, making them impossible to resist.</p> <h2><strong>18.</strong><strong>Sesame Seed Balls</strong></h2> <p>Sesame seed balls are soft and chewy round snacks filled with sweet sesame filling. </p> <p>The balls are made with rice flour, which is what gives them that sticky, gelatinous texture. </p> <p>They are completely covered with sesame seeds for that added crunch and to avoid them from sticking to your hands.</p> <p>Apart from sesame seed, other popular fillings include red bean paste and peanut paste. </p> <h2><strong>19.</strong><strong>Mung Bean Cake</strong></h2> <p>Mung bean cake, called âdvougao,â is a classic Chinese dessert eaten during the summer. </p> <p>Itâs made with - as you may have guessed - mung beans and is filled with a sweet paste. The cake gets its stunning shape from mooncake molds. </p> <p>This ancient dessert is eaten during the Dragon Boat Festival, along with rice wine and salted duck eggs. </p> <p>This tradition is said to prevent diseases caused by the summer heat.</p> <h2><strong>20.</strong><strong>Chinese Egg Cake</strong></h2> <p>Egg cake is another popular Chinese cake thatâs steamed instead of baked. Also called mini-sponge cake, itâs super soft, fluffy, and rich.</p> <p>If youâre looking for an easy recipe, this is it right here. </p> <p>It calls from basic pantry ingredients - eggs, flour, sugar, baking powder, oil, and salt. It also comes together in just under an hour!</p> <p>But donât be fooled by its simplicity, because this cake will absolutely knock your socks off.</p> <h2><strong>21.</strong><strong>Pineapple Buns</strong></h2> <p>Super soft rolls are filled with a crisp topping. Donât be misled by its name, though, because they do not contain any pineapple at all.</p> <p>Pineapple or polo buns are named after their appearance. </p> <p>It may need a bit of imagination, but if you look closely, the lined edges make them look like pineapples. </p> <p>The bread is ultra soft and tender, and the cracked surface adds a crisp and crumbly contrast.</p> <h2><strong>22.</strong><strong>Fa Gao</strong></h2> <p>Fa gao, or fortune cake, is a dense and gummy-ish cake usually served during Chinese New Year.</p> <p> Also known as prosperity cake and lucky cake, fa gao is eaten to bring prosperity in the year ahead.</p> <p>Just like the Chinese egg cake, fa gao is steamed, not baked. Mini-sized cakes are cooked at high heat, causing the surface to crack into four segments.</p> <p>The resulting appearance is said to look like a smile, although if Iâm being honest, it doesnât look like one at all! I still think it looks awesome, though.</p> <h2><strong>23.</strong><strong>Red Bean Popsicles</strong></h2> <p>Red bean popsicles are mildly sweet and ultra-satisfying. Theyâre the perfect summer treat!</p> <p>Adding red beans to popsicles might sound odd, but itâs actually very common in China and other Asian countries. </p> <p>I love the chewy and chunky texture they add to the smooth popsicle.</p> <h2><strong>24.</strong><strong>Mango Pudding</strong></h2> <p>Mango pudding is a thick and creamy mousse-like treat flavored with sweet ripe mangoes. That golden sunshine hue is gorgeous, to boot!</p> <p>I love how this pudding is not overwhelmingly sweet. Itâs perfectly light and refreshing, which is exactly what youâll crave after a heavy meal. </p> <p>Plus, you canât go wrong with the combination of cream and mangoes. </p> <p>These two ingredients complement each other beautifully, yielding one spectacular dessert.</p> <h2><strong>25.</strong><strong>Fortune Cookies</strong></h2> <p>Last but not least, we have what is perhaps the most iconic Chinese dessert there is: fortune cookies! </p> <p>Popular for their hidden prophetic messages, these cookies donât just offer flavor, but an exciting experience as well.</p> <p>Sure, they require a bit of effort, but just imagine how much fun it is for family and friends!</p> <figure><img src="https://ift.tt/3AnSPqx" alt="Chinese Desserts" /></figure> source https://familycuisine.net/how-to-make-chinese-dessert-pastry/

Itâs National Spinach Day! The Health Benefits of This Super Salad Green (Plus Recipes!)
When we hear about âsuperfoods,â we tend to think of exotic fruits and vegetables with hard-to-pronounce names and nutrients you never knew you needed. But spinach, a leafy green vegetable weâve heard about since we were kids, has been identified as one of the most potent superfoods with many health benefits.
Spinach is among the most nutrient-dense foods, meaning it delivers lots of vitamins and minerals but has very few calories. What you may not realize is how versatile it is and how easy it can be to add more to your diet, even if you didnât love it when you were growing up. The benefits of spinach are countless, so be sure to start incorporating it into your weekly menu!
Hereâs why you should be eating more spinach:
Nutrition Highlights
One of the most notable benefits of spinach is the high nutritious value it carries. Your mother was right: Spinach is among the most healthful foods you can eat. A cup of raw spinach has just seven calories, but it provides you with 56 percent of your RDA for vitamin A and 14 percent of your daily vitamin C needs. Eating spinach gives you smaller but significant amounts of vitamin K (which helps protect heart health) and the B-complex vitamins, such as folate, niacin and riboflavin. Spinach is also rich in potassium, magnesium and calcium, a mineral that plays a key role in keeping your metabolism active. On the Nutrisystem program, spinach is considered an unlimited non-starchy vegetable.
Spinach has more than twice as much iron as other vegetables. Iron is essential for your bodyâs production of red blood cellsâiron deficiency, known as anemia, may afflict vegetarians and others who avoid red meat. Itâs a common cause of persistent fatigue, especially among women. To note, iron from plants is not as easily absorbed as iron from animal sourcesâif you want to enhance your bodyâs absorption of iron, combine it with a food source high in vitamin C. Enjoy spinach in chili with vitamin C rich tomatoes, add spinach with vitamin C rich red peppers to an omelet, or even add vitamin C rich fruits like mandarin oranges or strawberries to your spinach salad. The benefits of spinach are not just nutritious, theyâre versatile, too!
Buyerâs Guide
You will see bunches of fresh spinach in the produce department of your local supermarket and it is also frequently available rinsed, trimmed and bagged. Spinach leaves and cooked spinach can be found in the frozen food aisle. When buying fresh, you may be able to choose from three different types, each with very similar nutrient content.
The leaves of savoy spinach are very dark green and crinkly. They tend to be crunchy and crisp, and to have the most noticeable spinach flavor. Savoy spinach is a good choice for salads, but because of all the wrinkles, minute amounts of dirt can get trapped in the leaves, so be sure to rinse it well before using. It also works well in recipes that need chopped leaves.
Smooth, spade-shaped flat-leaf spinach is easier to clean than savoy types, so itâs the kind most often used for dishes calling for whole leaves, such as omelets and sautĂ©s.
The very young leaves of baby spinach are very tender and have the mildest flavor. Baby spinach is a popular item on salad bars, and itâs the best choice for adding to smoothies and other dishes when you want the nutritional benefits but you donât want to notice the taste.
When shopping for fresh bunches, look for leaves that are consistently dark green with lighter green, crisp stems. Avoid any that look damp, wilted, or yellowish. You can store fresh spinach in a plastic bag in the refrigerator for three to four days, but leave the bag open so moistureâwhich causes wilting and moldâcan evaporate.
Just before youâre ready to use fresh spinach, drop the leaves in a large bowl of lukewarm water, stir gently with your hands, and then lift out them out to let the sand and grit settle. Repeat until there is no sand or grit on the bottom of the bowl and the spinach is clean. Pat the leaves dry before eating.
Raw vs. Cooked
Both fresh and prepared spinach are loaded with nutrients, but the cooking process affects which and how much of those nutrients you absorb when you eat the leafy green. Raw spinach contains oxalic acid, a natural substance that binds with calcium, making it unavailable for our bodies to use. Cooking spinach breaks down the oxalic acid and releases the calcium so your body can take it up. When spinach is heated, your body also absorbs more vitamin A and zinc from it. That doesnât mean you should stop eating raw spinach. The fresh leaves deliver more vitamin C, B-complex vitamins, and potassium than you get from cooked spinach.

Celebrate the Holidays with 25 Keto Christmas Cookie Recipes
Itâs the most wonderful time of the year, and that means lotâs of holiday baking, Christmas parties, and annual cookie exchanges. Not surprisingly, this also makes it one of the most challenging times of year to enjoy holiday foods while adhering to a keto diet. Most traditional Christmas cookie recipes are so laden with sugar that even a single cookie can take you quickly into high-carb territory, kicking you straight out of ketosis.
Fortunately, thereâs no need to pass up on any of your favorite Christmas cookies, because there are enough keto recipes to keep your taste buds happy without ruining your eating plan. These holiday cookies are festive, fun, and most importantly: delicious. They just happen to be keto-friendly while theyâre at it! You can serve them at parties just like you would a typical sugary cookie, and in most cases, your guests will none the wiser. Time to get baking!
Buttery shortbread cookies are a must at Christmas time, and this recipe takes them to the next level with the addition of seasonal cranberry and orange flavors. No sugars or artificial ingredients are necessary, either. These cookies get all of their delicious taste from real orange zest, chopped fresh cranberries, vanilla and almond extracts, and toasted almonds on top. After making the dough, itâs rolled into a log for easy slice and bake preparation, meaning you can store it in the freezer for later, and whip up a freshly baked batch anytime you like!
It wouldnât feel like Christmas without having a least a few decorated sugar cookies, right? These âno-sugar sugar cookiesâ are the perfect keto solution to a timeless holiday tradition. The buttery vanilla dough is sweetened with Swerve, then cut into adorable holiday shapes using your favorite cookie cutters, and decorated with colorful keto icing (and optional sprinkles). Theyâre cute as can be, and are sure to spread some holiday cheer!
A simple and satisfying holiday cookie recipe, these Italian Christmas treats are just as nice with a keto twist. Just like usual, the little dough mounds are baked, coated with a glaze, and topped with colorful sprinkles. However, this recipe uses Swerve as a sweetener in both the dough and the glaze topping, keeping things low carb.
These keto gingerbread men cookies provide of the traditional cuteness with none of the unnecessary sugar. Kids (and adults) love them, and theyâre perfect for dunking in milk! They have a wonderful blend of warming spices, including cinnamon, ginger and cloves. After theyâve been baked, theyâre decorated however you like with a keto royal white icing to really bring them to life!
Snowball cookies are aptly named for their charming appearance: they really do resemble little balls of snow, especially thanks to their powdered sugar coating. (Note that sometimes theyâre also called Mexican wedding cakes or Russian tea cookies, but âsnowballsâ seems to be the most holiday-appropriate choice!) These holiday favorites are easily adapted to fit a keto diet by tweaking the dough recipe, and then rolling them in Swerve confectionerâs sweetener after baking for the powdered snow effect.
Fun little thumbprint cookies are always a holiday favorite, and these keto versions are a breeze to whip up. They get their raspberry-flavored center from a dollop of sugar-free raspberry jam (or homemade raspberry preserves), which adds the perfect pop of color to complement the buttery almond flour crust.
Who could pass up a quintessential chocolate chip cookie? Consider this recipe your master class in perfecting the keto version! Whether you prefer your cookies more crispy or chewy, there are tips for how to achieve your favorite texture, how to choose the right sugar-free sweetener, and which grain-free flours are the best. When youâre through, youâll have guilt-free chocolate chip cookies to eat all season long!
Warm, cozy cinnamon flavors and a fun swirled pattern make these cookies a perfect holiday treat. They come together nicely by layering together a cinnamon dough with an almond flour dough, then rolling the two sheets of dough together to form a log. After slicing and baking, theyâre ready to enjoy with a glass of milk.
Thereâs no doubt that party guests are guaranteed to be impressed by these keto pinwheel cookies! They have a beautiful spiraled design that features a mouthwatering chocolate swirl nestled in between vanilla cookie dough. A combination of Swerve and stevia extract provide sweetness, keeping the recipe completely keto friendly.
Youâd be hard pressed to find cuter Christmas cookies than these! The soft, star-shaped cookies are made of delicious chocolate peppermint dough, which is baked and then dipped in a homemade peppermint chocolate coating. As a final touch, the cookies can be sprinkled with crushed sugar-free peppermints before the coating hardens, or drizzled with melted sugar-free white chocolate, forming the prettiest holiday toppings.
Biscotti is the perfect treat to enjoy with a favorite beverage, like coffee, hot tea, cocoa, or even a simple glass of milk. These delicious cookies are the perfect size and shape for dunking, and get some extra holiday flair with nutty pecans, slightly tart dried cranberries, and even a decadent chocolate-dipped base.
Coconut already happens to be a keto-friendly food, which makes these tasty macaroons a great choice during the holidays. Instead of the usual sugar, this recipe uses Swerveâs powdered confectionerâs sweetener to achieve the same scrumptious taste. And for extra pizazz, they can be dipped in melted chocolate and topped with optional almond slivers for garnish.
A perfect coffee companion, these âBiscoffâ inspired cookies will have you reaching for seconds and thirds. They are deliciously crispy and spiced with a blend of cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, cardamon, cloves, and even a bit of white pepper. For extra cuteness, you can use holiday cookie cutters to make fun shapes, and top them with slivered almonds before baking.
Lemon bars are big crowd-pleasers all year long, and they certainly provide wonderful variety at holiday parties. In this keto version, tart and tangy lemon curd forms a creamy layer above a buttery almond flour crust. There is no skimping on flavor, thanks to fresh lemon juice, lemon zest, rich egg yolks, and butter all blended into the filling (plus extra lemon zest in the cookie base). As a final touch, a sprinkle of sugar-free powdered sweetener on top completes the look and taste.
These easy-peasy cookies come together with only three ingredients! It may sound too good to be true, but some plain peanut butter, erythritol sweetener, and a single large egg are all youâll need to whip up a batch of mouthwatering keto peanut butter cookies. After rolling the dough into balls, you can even press the surface with a fork to get the same criss-cross marks youâll find on traditional cookies.
Inspired by Andes mints, these irresistible holiday brownies have a delicious chocolate and mint flavor combo. A few drops of food coloring achieve the perfect pastel mint green color on top, while the fudgy base below is rich and chocolatey. Just three simple ingredients form the brownie base, while the delicious keto buttercream frosting is flavored with peppermint extract for a wintery taste.
A cross between a no-bake cookie and a keto fat bomb, these delicious little treats are packed with flavor, but not the usual sugar. Instead, they use monk fruit and Swerve for sweetness, real dark rum instead of rum flavor extract, and a decadent combination of chocolate, coconut, and almond flour to form a dough. After rolling into little balls, they get dipped in melted chocolate and sprinkled with coconut flakes, forming small, irresistible truffles.
While pure maple syrup is a natural sweetener, itâs also high in sugar, and therefore difficult to incorporate successfully into a keto diet. These yummy cookies get their tempting maple flavor from sugar-free syrup, avoiding the sugar spike completely. Decadent macadamia nuts add extra healthy fats and crunchy goodness!
Thereâs nothing like a big, warm snickerdoodle cookie in the winter to make you feel cozy. These keto cookies are chewy and tender in the center, slightly crispy around the edges, and full of delicious cinnamon flavor. Thanks to a grain-free flour blend and a bit of xantham gum, they form a perfect cookie texture that stays nice and thick after baking. A dusting of ground cinnamon and monk fruit coats the surface when they come out of the oven, and then theyâre all yours to munch and enjoy.
When all you want is chocolate, then chocolate is all you need! These decadent cookies are fudge and rich, and donât skimp on chocolatey goodness. Cocoa powder and sugar-free chocolate chips join forces to create a double chocolate recipe, which includes a garnish of flakey sea salt for the perfect flavor punch.
Oatmeal and raisins arenât ingredients you see in most keto recipes, which might lead you to believe that this classic cookie flavor is off-limits. Fortunately, thatâs not the case! This grain-free recipe uses shredded coconut and ground flaxseed to provide the same chewy texture of baked oatmeal, and a few real raisins (and chocolate chips if you like) are perfectly portioned to keep things keto-friendly.
Is there anything better than chocolate and peanut butter together? These cute little peanut butter blossom cookies will turn anyone into a fan. The traditional recipe features a sugary peanut cookie topped with a chocolate kiss pressed into the center, but the low carb version is just as mouthwatering. A blend of three keto flours (almond, coconut, and peanut flour) make the perfect cookie dough, and a bit of melted sugar-free chocolate and butter forms a chocolate ganache button in the center.
A little bit of rum extract takes the flavor of these keto blondies to new holiday heights! Instead of brown sugar, these beautiful blondies are sweetened with Lakanto Golden, and have fiber-rich psyllium husk to ensure a perfectly chewy texture. Vanilla and rum extracts round out the flavor, and chopped walnuts provide heart-healthy fat with a lovely bit of crunch. Bake a batch to slice into squares, and youâre all set for your next holiday get-together. These wonât last long!
These delicious sandwich cookies definitely deserve a spot on your cookie tray! A combination of hazelnut and almond flour are used to make the cookie dough, while a rich chocolate layer fills the center. If you ever get Nutella cravings, then this keto-friendly alternative will be just the chocolate and hazelnut combination youâre looking for.
You might be surprised by the secret ingredient in these âriceâ Krispie scotcheroos! Most grains (rice included) are too carb-heavy for a keto diet, so this spin on a classic favorite gets its crispy texture from⊠crushed pork rinds. Before you run the other way, rest assured that the pork rinds actually donât affect the flavor of these goodies in any way, which get their tempting taste from ingredients like butter, vanilla, maple-flavored syrup, and a delicious layer of chocolate on top. Give them a try and see for yourself!
Conclusion
With so many keto holiday cookie options, these recipes could end up becoming your new favorite treats for many Christmases to come. Just make sure to pay close attention to the preparation and baking instructions in order to ensure that you get the best result. If youâre new to a keto lifestyle, then some of the ingredients may seem unfamiliar at first, but most are easily found online and in grocery stores, and some might already be in your pantry right now.
Keep in mind that during keto, the goal is to keep your carb intake low and your healthy fat levels high, so although these recipes are designed for a keto diet, itâs still important to track your portions so that you stay within range. As long as you follow all these tips, you should be on your way to eating some delicious holiday treats in no time!

How to Use the Whole Pumpkin
Itâs pumpkin spice latte season and pumpkins are popping up everywhere. There are so many varieties, colors, shapes, and sizes of these gourds to choose from and theyâre showing up at your local grocer, farmer friends, and perhaps even in your own garden!
Beyond decorating your porch with whole or carved pumpkins, plenty of pumpkiny delight awaits you in your very own kitchen.
Pumpkins are Paleo, rich in fiber, filling, and delicious. Pumpkin dishes are a true autumn treat, and not to be missed during their peak season. Their smooth and golden flesh is great for baking, roasting, and stuffing, and is versatile for both sweet and savory dishes.
7 Nutrients in Pumpkins
Every part of the pumpkin is edible, and yesâthat includes the stem, pulp, and even blooms. Theyâre a member of the gourd family and have been highly underutilized as the superfood that they are.
Pumpkins are technically a fruit that ends up being used as a vegetable, much like the avocado, tomato, and cucumber.
Pumpkins are nutritionally dense and are rich in the following vitamins, minerals, and more: (1)
Fiber
Vitamin A
Vitamin C
Iron
Manganese
Potassium
Omega-3 Fats
13 Amazing Ways to Prepare & Eat Pumpkins
Instead of being limited to pies only, try these creative ways to use pumpkin in your meal plan without wasting a single scrap!
1. Pumpkin Puree
The most famous of pumpkin preparations is of course the pumpkin pie! Canned pumpkin is everywhere this time of year, but if you really want to become a pumpkin pro, try your hand at preparing your very own pumpkin filling.
Create a pumpkin puree from the flesh of any cooking pumpkin, as opposed to the larger, stringy, carving pumpkins. Pick smooth, smaller, heavier pumpkins for optimal flavor, then doctor up the puree as you see fit.
To make a pumpkin puree, halve your pumpkin. Scoop seeds and pulp out and steam or roast until fork tender. Scoop out flesh and whisk. This is a basic thick and creamy pumpkin puree ready for your very own pumpkin pie.
2. Pumpkin Sauce
You can transform any pumpkin puree into a warming pumpkin sauce. Add to a stock pot over medium heat, and whisk in cashew or coconut cream, sage, cinnamon, sea salt, and lemon juice. Simmer for 30 minutes and drizzle over your favorite Paleo-friendly noodles. Zucchini noodles or âzoodlesâ pair nicely with this autumnal sauce.
3. Pumpkin Egg Replacer
Use pure pumpkin puree to bind, add flavor to, moisten, and even replace eggs in any sweet Paleo bread recipe. To replace one egg, swap it for Πcup pumpkin puree. This also works for pancakes, waffles, and muffins! Plus, you can make delicious Paleo pumpkin bread or pumpkin muffins.
4. Pumpkin Rind
Just because the pumpkin rind is edible, does not always mean that it is palatable. To eat the rind, pick pumpkins that are smooth, unblemished, and thinner. Peel or tear the pumpkin skin into chip-sized pieces, spread on a baking sheet, and bake at the lowest temperature with the door partially open. Theyâre ready to eat when they look like chips, and can range in texture from chewy (like dehydrated fruit) to crispy.
5. Pumpkin Bowls
For a festive way to enjoy autumnal dishes, use the shell of the pumpkin for a serving bowl.
Prep a clean pumpkin and cut in half. Scoop out seeds and pulp, and season the inside with compatible spices for the dish youâre serving. Try cinnamon, maple syrup, sea salt, or even grass-fed butter.
Place the cut side down of your pumpkin bowl on a parchment lined tray. Coat in avocado oil and roast at 350ÂșF until just tender. Donât over roast or your pumpkin bowl will lose its shape. Trim the bottom as needed so they sit flat.
To serve, stuff the pumpkin bowls with sweet potato hash, pumpkin butter, pumpkin soup, or any of your other fall-favorite recipes.
6. Roasted Pumpkin
Just as you would roast your pumpkin bowl, skin and all, try slicing the halves into thin half moons or rings. Coat the slices in avocado oil or grass-fed butter and sprinkle with sea salt, cumin, chili, cinnamon, and honey. Place cut sides down and roast at 400ÂșF for 30 to 40 minutes or until pumpkin is easily pierced with a fork. Because the skins are tender, colorful, and edible, skipping the peeling and eating them makes this dish both simple and nutritious.
7. Pumpkin Seeds
When you have pumpkin coming out your ears from all the carving, you need to know what to do with all those seeds! Rich in omega-3 fatty acids, these nutritious little snackers develop a great toasty flavor when roasted. Whatever you do, donât throw them out!
After youâve cleaned all the pulp from your seeds, rinse them and lay flat to dry. Prep a seasoning blend which can range from sweet to spicy to savory. Try pumpkin pie spice with coconut sugar or cumin, chili, and garlic for a zesty snack. Toss them with your spice combo and a Paleo-friendly roasting oil, like coconut or avocado, and stir well.
Preheat your oven to 350ÂșF and lay the seeds out in a single layer on a baking sheet. Roast for 45 minutes or until toasted and crunchy. Store in a glass jar with a lid.
8. Pumpkin Dressing
If you want to take your roasted pumpkin seeds one step further, puree them into your favorite salad dressing for a mineral boost. They pair well with dressing flavors like balsamic, honey, avocado, and even citrus.
9. Pumpkin Pesto
Blend roasted pumpkin seeds with your favorite herbs, dark leafy greens, oil, and garlic and enjoy as a pesto on chicken, pork, eggsâand anything else you can dream of. For an ultra pumpkin dish delight, make pumpkin noodles, savory pumpkin sauce, and top with a little pumpkin seed pesto!
10. Pumpkin Blossoms
Edible florals can elevate a meal at home into a glamorous dinner party. A bundle of edible blooms can be the prettiest appetizer to offer at holiday parties, and there are lots of ways to prepare them and eat them.
Pumpkin blossoms work well when stuffed. Prepare cashew cheese and gently spoon into the inside of the blossom. Twist the petals to contain the filling and refrigerate until serving. These stuffed pumpkin blossoms make a simple, rich, and tasty appetizer.
You can also fry your pumpkin blossoms. After stuffing and chilling, make an egg dredge and a flour dredge, using your preferred Paleo baking flour. Dip the stuffed blossom into flour, then egg, and then flour again. Fry quickly in a skillet with Paleo-friendly oil, like avocado or coconut, for about two minutes each side or until golden brown. Place fried blossom on paper towels, add a bit of sea salt, and then allow cool before popping into your mouth as an addictively simple appetizer.
11. Pumpkin Stems
Often no more than a handle, the pumpkin stem is overlooked! While it may not seem obvious, thereâs a way to make this hunky part of a gourd worthy of eating.
Clean your gourd stem very well and blanch. Let cool. Using a mandolin, slice the stem into paper thin pieces. Saute for several minutes with your favorite seasonings and add to stir-fry dishes, soups, and other Paleo noodle dishes.
You can also make chips out of the pumpkin stems. Apply the same method of cleaning, blanching, and slicing. After the slices have dried, flash fry in coconut oil and add sea salt. You can mix this in with your favorite homemade root chips, like sweet potatoes, beets, or parsnips.
12. Pumpkin Stock, Soup, & Broth
Pumpkinâs benefits extend well beyond pies and seeds. Not only can you make delicious pumpkin soup, but you can also use the pumpkin pulp to infuse your stocks and bone broths with some extra pumpkiny flavor. It pairs nicely with onions, garlic, carrots, and celery, along with the apple cider vinegar that youâll need to extract nutrients from the bones.
13. Pumpkin Leaves
There is always room for more dark and leafy greens on the market. Pumpkin leaves have a unique shape and are rather tender, making a great addition to your salad.
You can also saute your pumpkin leaves. Add them to a saute pan with a cooking as and saute in the same manner that you would spinach.
Pumpkin dumplings are another way to use the leaves. Blanch the larger pumpkin leaves and then lay flat to dry. Add your favorite filling to the center (the filling for this stuffed tomato recipe would work perfectly!), and then fold the leaves over by twisting until it is fully closed. Secure your dumpling by tying it off with a long chive stem. Bake or roast at 400ÂșF until tender.
Bottom Line
Pumpkins are more versatile than they let on, and along with the variety, health benefits, and tasty dishes that can be created, you can also have fun making these crafty Paleo pumpkin meals with your family.

A large collection of concept art for Defend the Cake,
http://defendthecake.com/
game available on steam, itch.io and gamejolt.
Above is the promotional artwork for the Ant Queen. This post is all the concept art and 2d art for Defend the Cake that I could track down which @Drachis had a hand in creating. It is a collection of sketches, watercolor drawings and rough animations of ideas that came up during the production.
This is an idea of the carrot launcher transforming into a robot piloted by an eggbird.
The strawberry shortcake slice was one of the alpha walls we had in game
Picking colors for the frosting upgrades involved some glacial ice reference and non local colors.
These are the breakouts of the 3/4 ant queen perspectives for animation to help simplify from the promo art and ensure the important details came through.
This was a wine opening carrot launcher combo idea, where the spiral screw was used to harvest the carrots.
This animation rough sold us on the idea of the look and feel for the rocket snails.
The coconut palm was a potential rolling pin alternative, we deemed it too much plant and not enough kitchen-punk for the game
Spiiiice worm, with a little cleanup this ended up in game
Howe do eggbirds repair a cake we asked? With staples and tape, just kinda... putting the pieces back where ever. Not the smartest of biurbs.
A rough fat grasshopper animation on paper because Drachis left his computer behind one day.
Some of the early concepts for beetles, segways ants and bees, with a little glimpse at the death animation for ants in the top right.
This is a quick animation of how the carrot launcher that is in game could activate, we started in this direction on the model but didnât get it completed.
One of the alternative ideas for the watermelon was this seed launcher, which spit an arc of watermelon seeds out.
This is the rough animation for the carrot launcher, we used it in game for a short while in alpha to help with prototyping.
A quick guide on how to make a nine-slice texture paired with ideatiaon on how to build blocks of walls.
One of the early potential strawberry shooter upgrades
Before there were flowers and leaves in the areas outside. the play space there was talk of filling it with brambles. They ended up looking too busy when used in game.
Strawberry tower rough animation, was top down to allow for simple 2d rotation.
Early strawberry shooter idea, too much seed, not enough gear.
The snail iteration that really hit their personality, thanks to @war-anth for encouragement to push it farther.
One early watermelon prototype, a trying pan... we decided it might evoke fried eggs in the playerâs mind which wasnât the goal.
The rough Defend the Cake Logo
One of the animation roughs for the watermelon tower.
âIâm still rather fond of this design, it does something really different and reads very wellâ - @drachis
Logo exploration for Defend the Cake, this was too much Defend and not enough Cake
When the watermelon slingshot was a cannon.
Exploration of the play space and cake designs, asking âhow do we show the grid without always having to put a grid up?â and âdoes the cake live on the grass or a tray?â
Watermelon slingshot animation rough, this was used in game during alpha.
Cupcake ideas, how much cute and what elements are most important. The proportion of the design on the left helped inspire the cupcake in game today.
This delicious Strawberry Volcano Brick Toast inspired the walls that you see in Defend the Cake. We tried a couple other baked goods but they didnât quite hit that same same visual weight. It was sooo good, such delicious research.
Tried out the idea of wall-nut toast, it looked a bit too tiled in game and didnât evoke that âput a thing on meâ feeling
A wee baby cupcake with a frosting beret, it was cute but those cheeks sorta make me die inside.
What if waffle wall? waffled on this idea and it fell out of favor.
Eggbird personality rough sketches, that smirking on in the top center was a big hit and that frame lives on in the game.
Cleaver rough, exploration of the cleaver shape and how it would look on toast.
toast. Toast. TOAST! This was a super satisfying animation that sold the idea of toast popping out of the ground.
Some exploration of what if the eggbirds were more like the babies from angry birds, didnât quite stick.
Eggbird icon for the UI
Exploring how eggbirds look when we push it some, maybe giant eye highlights.
Making cheesy puns, this bone and cheese knife was the basic idea for the cheese cleaver in game
early cheese cleaver idea, exploration of shapes
The alpha watermark, stuck around until mid beta
A grasshopper all hopped up on 40k ideas ready to get cake for the Empara , er I mean Queen.
bee drone just wants you to remember to....
Building a backronym for the TROJAN EGG, and exploring how the rolling pin might pop out.
Rough ideas for the carrot animation and launcher.
color exploration for the watercolor launcher, banditapple notebooke and windsor and newton mini watercolor set.
Ant queen chair back at the animatorâs request, this wasnât designed until that request came in.
Exploration of the walls, what if they were a fruit tart?
A bread study, to try and figure out what even is bread.
Looking at tart shells and exploring the idea of walls.
Early website promo art sketch, sleeping eggbird getting ready to make a cake.
Toasty explorations, what shapes? Maybe pancakes?
Trying out the idea of braided bread to help give the bread a rather different look.
exploring more braided bread weave patterns
Pushing the eggbirds far past where I initially felt comfortable, what should the carton look like?
Exploring eyes and emotions for eggbirds.
What even is an eggbird, can I draw it in one line?
âEggbirds always wear a hatâ - Namtopia , here are eggbirds with tall chefâs hats.
strawberry shooter particle exploration, this looked too much like blood and was rejected.
happy little cake with raspberries, crayola watercolors
how do the ants die? rough idea of their souls making sad hungry faces and wafting away.
spiral shell rocket snail, when the snail was more jet engine than snail.
rocket snail with goggles, gotta go fast, so fast you hover.
trying to get that moar snailery life going.
Some rough colors on the rocket snail to solidify that pure horror
UI ideas, all the ingredients and recipes on a giant cutting board.
tower sketches , thinking about the rolling pin and how does it roll out dough and what that looks like.
beetle and ants, proportions didnât quite work at game scale.
Watermelon launcher concept.
mail-egg for the newsletter, animated him walking as a promo for game before alpha during the search for more newsletter signups.
Tried out an idea where the cake was always screaming through the hole in the A.... didnât go through for reasons.
The logo in full sketch and watercolor form.
This cupcake didnât make it into the game, the chocolate eyes and overcooked body didnât quite have the right appeal.
Iâm hiding and sad says this cupcake, defend me.
You got this!
Eggbird and cake slice exploration, can they get tired and flop over? I think so.
Cleaver design, really close to final.
the eggbirds go on cooldown, how should that look?
Winter egg promo, standing on an icingy piece of cake
What if the alpha logo was an egg on a runaway eggbeater? too dark I guess.
More alpha logo exploration, some notes from working at a yoga studio.
The logo for Alpha, used as a watermark
beedrone sketch, determined to bee a little too much drone in the face and bee fur is a little creepy.
playing with grasshopper proportions
trying to get the grasshopper to be realistic and super squishable.
Crab apple, crab apple, better than glad apple. Exploring the shapes and progression of the crab apple.
Cake booth sketch for Otakon. It ended up fairly close to this.
Some alternative cake booth ideas.
Looking at plants and zombies towers and thinking about an eggbird cannon.
Exploring the cheese knife hole patterns
trying to figure out the eggbird integration with the cheese knife.
happy birthday egg, for the cake team and company anniversary
happy little watermelon, ready to fly
giddy watermelon just loves their aerial future.
scared cake as a potential logo.
rocket snail as a pod racer, rocket snail with a jet engine on its shoulder.
snail riding a jet engine, snail with an actual rocket.
At which point I determined that maybe there was an optimal engine to snail ratio.
Thinking about stacks of bread.
For a while wheat was delivered each day by a bread cart, we nixed the idea because for an animation you saw every day it just wasnât cool enough.
Reasons I can never own a house as a millennial, all the eggs might be secretly avocados painted white.
exploring eye and feet shapes for the eggbirds.
fiddling with eggbird gesture.
happy egg bird gestures.
exploring which eggbird faces are the best,
tried putting faces on all the towers, it kinda worked but pushed the game a little too close to PvZ.
Exploring what ants look like and how dough should roll out.
I am an eggbird short and stout.
Watermelon baller, did a good job breaking visual tradition with other watermelon towers. A bit harder to understand itâs damage and function.

10 No-Churn Ice Cream Recipes, No Ice Cream Maker Required
[Photographs: Vicky Wasik]
As warmer days approach, ice cream is on the mind. Who wouldnât want to devour a huge cone right now? But with stay-at-home measures in place and supermarket stashes in flux, grabbing a pint or bar of ice cream isnât as easy as it once was. But fear not, my ice cream-loving friends: you can still make your ice cream dreams a reality, and you donât even need an ice cream maker to do so. (Of course, if you do have an ice cream maker then the world is your oyster.)
We love ice cream for its smooth, creamy texture; its sweet and varied flavors; its many shapes and forms. But ice cream also brings with it a sense of nostalgia, a longing for the ease of childhood. While most of us are stuck inside and unable to fully enjoy these warmer months, we can still make new memories with ice cream, be it with our kids, our roommates, our partners, or all on our own. These memories may look different than other ones, but they can still spark moments of joy during times of hardship.
So go ahead and bring the ice cream truck to you. If thereâs ever been a time to experiment in the kitchen, itâs now. From classic flavors like chocolate and vanilla, to frozen pies and pudding pops, weâve got 10 recipes for no-churn ice cream that will surely bring out your inner child.
Vanilla Ice Cream
It doesnât get much simpler than a scoop of sweet, sweet vanilla ice cream. Just five ingredients come together in this no-churn recipe to make a classic vanilla flavor profile that everyone will love. While many ice cream recipes use canned milk, this one opts for heavy cream in order to create a fresh dairy flavor. And thanks to Stellaâs method of egg whipping, you wonât need as much cream to achieve a light and silky texture. Whether you eat it with a spoon or scooped over a slice of pie, the overall result is pure and simpleâand sometimes thatâs all you need.

Chocolate Ice Cream
Since the chocolate flavor in this recipe comes from cocoa powder alone, itâs important to reach for the good stuff. Dutch-process cocoa styles will give you a deep, dark flavor and color, while using natural cocoa will result in a lighter color and fruitier profile. Meanwhile, ingredients like instant espresso powder, brown sugar, and spirits or liqueur help create a complex and distinct flavor. If chocolate ice cream is your go-to, youâll enjoy scoop after scoop of this creamy, custard-style dessert.

Mascarpone Ice Cream
Our no-churn vanilla ice cream recipe gets taken up a notch with the addition of mascarpone, which creates a complex dairy flavor and velvety texture. Just a small amount of brown sugar really helps bring out mascarponeâs distinct flavor. The ice cream is delightful on its own, but it becomes an even sweeter treat when paired with fresh fruit like strawberries or cherries. The mascarpone flavor also makes it a natural match for any Italian dessert, and we particularly like to serve it with a shot of espresso poured on top, for a riff on the affogato.

Fruity Ice Cream
Freeze-dried fruit is always there when we need it most. Here, it comes to the rescue in creating an ultra-fruity ice cream with a beautifully vibrant color. This version uses blueberries, but any good-quality freeze-dried fruit can help you achieve your fruity ice cream dreams. Since the fruit contains zero moisture and can be ground into a fine powder, it achieves a more concentrated flavor and a creamier consistency than fresh fruit allows. So all thatâs left to do is let ice cream be your blank slate and let the array of freeze-dried fruits open up your world of possibilities.

Vanilla Ice Cream Pie
The flavor combinations for this ice cream pie recipe are truly endless. This version features a vanilla-flavored filling, but can easily be customized with other extracts like lemon, orange and mint. The filling is as light and fluffy as a cloud, thanks to a mixture of Swiss meringue and whipped cream. As for the crust? We went for a chocolate cookie crumb, but you can try making it with graham crackers or even Biscoff cookies instead. So why not try out different flavors together? Permission to play around with your food: granted!

Lime Ice Cream Pie
Think of this as key lime pieâs cooler, more refreshing cousin. The fillingâs smoothness comes from the use of sweetened condensed milk, while lime juice and zest give it a tart lime flavor. Once you pour the filling into your prepared pie crust, all it needs is a few hours in the freezer and then itâs ready to serve. Howâs that for a low-maintenance pie?

Homemade Klondike Bars
[Photograph: Vicky Wasik. Video: Serious Eats Team]
What would you do for a Klondike bar? Thankfully, you donât need to churn ice cream for one. But whatâs the secret to the fluffy filling inside the bar? Truth be told, itâs Swiss meringue! Cutting the meringue with milk and cream makes it light and airy enough to cut into squares before dipping. We turn to coconut oil for the milk chocolate coating, which makes it thin, glossy, and crisp. The result is a creamy and crunchy Klondike bar that just might be better than the original.

Homemade Chipwiches
The chipwich is arguably the best ice-cream sandwich in the game. A slick slab of ice cream between two tender chocolate chip cookies and rolled in even more chocolate chips? Iconic. Delicious. Incredibly easy to make at home. Best of all, you can assemble it with any cookie and no-churn ice cream combo of your choosing. Chocolate chip cookies (we have more than a few) with vanilla ice cream? Yes, please. Or how about fruity ice cream between two brown butter shortbread cookies? Go for it!

Homemade Strawberry Shortcake Ice Cream Bars
[Photograph: Vicky Wasik. Video: Serious Eats Team]
Perhaps one of the more iconic childhood treats, these ice cream bars are vibrant and flavorful. Swiss meringue once agains serves as part of the base for the filling, cut with milk and cream and flavored with both vanilla and freeze-dried strawberries. The coating consists of more freeze-dried strawberries and crispy puffed-rice cereal, which sticks beautifully to a thin glaze of white chocolate without turning soggy. Itâs a delightful treat with an intense flavor that will surely bring a sweet smile to your face.

DIY Pudding Pops
As the name suggests, this recipe calls for pudding (yes, we know, itâs not technically ice creamâŠbut neither are the rest of these recipes if youâre being picky)âin this case, a simple mixture that incorporates tapioca starch in order to keep it silky and thick, even after spending some time in the freezer. If you prefer a simple pudding pop, you can enjoy them after about six to eight hours in the freezer. But the kid in some of us sees a plain pudding pop as a blank canvas. So whip out some homemade magic shell and let the pops go for a dip, adding some sprinkles for good measure. Just a little bit of time in the kitchen and a few patient hours of waiting will leave you with a rich and refreshing treat to relish in, and a fun project to make with those around you.

Cutie Reviews: TokyoTreat April 20
Hello, here I am :3 bringing you guys another review. Iâve got time to kill while I wait for my Switch remotes to finish charging so that I can get back to the new Harvest Moon game. I also had this review ready for almost a week now and really should have gotten it up sooner <_<Â
For anyone new or unfamiliar with my blog, I wanted to mention that item Iâve already reviewed in the past I tend to skip as a result of not having much to say about it. Unless for some reason my opinion would have changed. If you really want to know what I think about an item I skipped, you can message me and Iâll give you the details.
âSakura season is one of the most fun times in Japan! While enjoying the sakura and nature is great, hanging out with friends and enjoying picnics is the best part about spring! The weather is getting warmer and weâre heading to the park to party until late! Japanese parks light up the sakura at night to highlight their beautiful pink color, and people stay late eating, drinking, and having a great time! Wanna come too?â
Lucky Treat & Photo Prize
This monthâs Lucky Treat and photo prize are full of adorable Pokemon goods!
Also, the last page of the booklet discusses some items Japanese like to bring with them to sakura viewing. In the past, they would normally pack bento or handmade snacks, but lately you would see things like sakura themed drinks and sweets, to the less-likely (but super-yummy) sushi, burgers, and pizza!
Frozen Coca-Cola Lemon
This is our drink this month, I was very excited. Not only because I love cola (I bought coke tic tacs if thatâs any indication ;p), but because I was obsessed with lemon pepsi when I was younger, and itâs since long been discontinued. Lately, Wendyâs has been having lemon/lime cola though, and itâs amazing! Iâd also recommend the strawberry Dr. Pepper if you see it.Â
Anyhoozles, this is a drink meant to be put into the freezer. The back marks it as 15-20 minutes wait time, but I actually had mine in there for at least an hour and it wasnât frozen at all. Just super cold. It could be my fault because it was nearly a year old, Iâm not sure, I decided to drink it anyway. It was... it reminded me of the syrupy taste you might sometimes get while drinking a slushie. It wasnât terrible or anything, but not exactly what I was hoping for either.
Sankaku Crackers Veg. Flavor & Ham and Potato Porickey
Iâve had the first one before, so weâll be skipping to the Porickey, which are basically savory, un-coated pocky I like to think. These were okay, but thereâs barely any flavor on them; for me thatâs probably a good thing because I hate ham.
Sakura Mochi Chocolate & Apple Jelly
These chocolateâs Iâm very familiar with, weâve had them once or twice before. I really like them though, I wish weâd see more of this brand in the box.
Meanwhile, the apple jelly was very much new! I love little jellies like this x3 I buy a mixed pack from the store every now and then, and when I was younger my dad used to bring some home from work, so theyâve become fairly nostalgic for me now as an adult. This one was lightly sweet with a pleasant green apple flavor, it wasnât sour or anything.
Sakura Matcha Collon & Matcha Coconut Cookies
Our next two items are pretty unique, both featuring matcha/green tea flavoring. Collon is a fairly common snack item, they usually remind me of Comboâs, little pretzel snacks filled with a flavored cheese.
I donât believe Iâve seen this flavor before, but I donât dislike it. The box has a label on it saying fragrant sakura, which I would agree with. These have a flowery-sort of taste with a hint of green tea. The taste has been lingering in my mouth when I eat a couple, but itâs a nice taste.
Also, I like how this box they come in is re-sealable. Thatâs always very appreciated.
- - - - -
These cookies feature a sugary green tea glaze on top, giving them a lightly crunchy texture. They also come in a large pack composed of four smaller packs, each with so many cookies inside.
I really feel like green tea has been growing on me because as of late, I havenât been completely repulsed by it like I used to be. However, I had no idea there was any coconut in them! They donât taste like it at all, but thatâs good for me again, because I also hate coconut!Â
Sakura Sake Kit Kats & Choco-Taro
These kit kats I remember clearly, not only because of their pretty pale pink coloring, but their strong alcohol taste. There is 0.7 alcohol, which is extremely weak I assume, but you should be careful with anyone under drinking age or those who cannot have it at all.
Iâm not really fond of alcohol, but itâs okay for special occasions. These are pretty good, so I would recommend giving them a try if you really want something unique, as long as you can have alcohol.
- - - - -
The choco-taro, I feel like weâve had before but I canât entirely remember. It was a mildly sweet chocolate with a very soft, flaky inside that melts in the mouth a little. It wasnât too remarkable, but it was good.
Chicken Ramen Snacks & Cabbage Chips
Nothing new here, moving on~
Taro Beans, Pollock Umaibo & Soy Sauce and Butter Popcorn
Umaibo isnât new, and I canât really recall if weâve had the taro beans or not before. Kinda feel like we have, but basically theyâre little crunchy, slightly salted crackers.
- - - -
The popcorn meanwhile, is a product of Fritolay under the Mike brand. They were pretty good, they tasted mostly like butter, with maybe a hint of soy sauce. They seemed to go stale a little quickly after opening though.
Ramune Candies, Burger Gummy, & Hello Kitty Sakura Candy
Sorry guys, this last pic is kinda mehhh. I accidentally deleted the original because I assumed it had been uploaded onto the computer like my others. For some reason it didnât work. I donât have the burger gummy in this picture now, but youâre not missing much. It was hard and unpleasant due to being so old, so after a few chews it pretty much got thrown away.
- - - - -
Our next item is this cute little pack of ramune candies, which are pressed powdered tablets. When put in water or in the mouth they dissolve, and this specific brand includes a variety of flavors, each with a cute design on the front.
Before when I had these, I had melon, so I was very happy to get a new one, more or less my most favorite fruit x3 These are lightly sweet and delicious. The melon was good too, but I think I like this one a bit more. They also come in grape, lemon, and orange.
- - - - -
Our final item is a pack of sakura-shaped hard candies, available in cherry, orange, and apple! The packaging features adorable hello kitty designs and pretty flowers. The candies are very yummy too, the orange one tasted like orange soda pop, and the cherry doesnât taste medicinal. I havenât tried apple yet, but I assume itâll be really good.
â„ Cutie Ranking â„
Content - 4 out of 5. I liked everything, and only one or two items suffered from aging I think, but only the one was actually inedible in my personal opinion. A bit repetitive, but not overwhelming. Two items in this box were present in their prior sakura-themed boxes if I recall right.Â
Theme - 4 out of 5. Yeah Iâd say they fit the snacking theme perfectly well, thereâs nothing to really complain. But if I had to, I would say that they werenât as on point as usual with this theme as they were in prior years.
Total Rank: 8 out of 10. I really donât have too much to leave with this time around. It featured a pleasant mix of unique snacks with more common/basic flavors, so there was something for everyone. I kinda wish they included some more savory items, but I think they cut down because of how much they were featured in Marchâs box.

16 stunning bright red hair colors
New Post has been published on https://www.easypromhairstyles.com/16-stunning-bright-red-hair-colors.html
16 stunning bright red hair colors
A bright red hair color is an ultra-warm and intense red shade that is dyed on the hair in the form of highlights, an ombre, a dip dye or a full solid shade. Warning: this is not for weak hearts!
Fiery tones of red hair have seen their revival this season, as is famous on celebrity divas Christina Hendricks, Chloe Dykstra and Jennifer Morrison. All boundaries are broken when it comes to how extremely lively you can be with your curls, and everyone gets moving!
Tennessee hair artist Josh Boynton presents his hottest ruby ââhair creations on his lining, and there's only one thing to say: it's pure perfection. From mermaid waves to slim and straight, bobs to waist lengths, bright red tones prove that you can never be too bright with red!
But of course, with great results comes great responsibility. Use color-safe products, wash with cold water and follow the advice of your trusted colorist religiously. Do this and you will surely turn your head for a long time!
Ready to set your look on fire? Get started now by taking a look at these trendiest examples of bright red hair colors!
Light long red hair
How would you describe this look?
Every time I see this beautiful hair tip, I can only think of the iconic hibiscus flower. Fashion / vibrant color is 100% a passion of mine. I've been making this guest's hair for some time now, but the first time I dyed her hair it was a pretty vigorous color correction that went from adult to old color / blonde!
Every time I make color, whether it's a fashion or natural color, I love to add dimension and depth to the hair. If you can't tell from checking out my Instagram page, I'm a big fan of bright vivid reds. Fashion / vibrant colors will always have a special place in my heart, but I'm having fun adding a more modern and trendy twist to it.
Of course, the haircut plays a crucial role in the overall look, including the effects on the color. Having these soft long layers, but then breaking up really soft by adding texture and bringing even more dimension to what is so important to me. Everything in terms of color, cut and style should be coherent so that the beginning and the end complement each other.
Any advice for someone considering it?
Although this is my expertise, I would not recommend this service to everyone. It is definitely a lifestyle. The reality of this color is that it's high maintenance, so the first thing you should always do before making an appointment to book this type of service (if you've never had a fashion color) is for one To come in consultation with your stylist.
Once you've decided that this is something you want to go forward with (awesome!), Just keep in mind that when you leave the salon, your job is not done. It is imperative that you have professional products (shampoo, conditioner, styling products) at home that will help prolong the longevity of your color and maintain the integrity of hair health.
Do little things like washing your hair in cold water and maybe not heat styling it so much is always helpful. It's just one of those things â if you're at a point where you would have fun and exciting hair, I absolutely think that everyone should at least try. Make sure you do your research. Let me tell you it's worth it!
Light copper bob
How would you describe this look?
I love this color and cut combination. We wanted to create a dull bob look that looks good even with beach waves. I created waves with styling iron and salt spray. Dark copper roots with lighter copper teasy lights add dimension to the hair and make it look thicker than it actually is. Red copper tones also look super good with customers light skin tones.
Any advice for someone considering it?
This bright red haircut is perfect for someone struggling with thin hair. Styling with sea salt or powder spray increases the volume of the hair and makes it look fuller if you style it with waves or just keep the hair straight.
Hot copper tones look good, someone with a light skin tone. The important thing is to find the right shade of copper for customers complexion and style. Copper tones make hair look shiny and healthier. If the customer wants to be brave and turn his head, this look is great for them.
Light red violet
How would you describe this look?
For this look, I first applied a dark red base and balayaged the lighter red throughout the hair, so thin pieces of the darker base color went through the ends for a small dimension. The cut is a long layered cut with an angled front and bangs. To style, I always apply a leave-in conditioner before blow-drying and then dry the hair with a round brush. Next I sprayed a light layer of hairspray and then waved it with a 1-in curling iron. I sprayed the hair with a shine spray and used a paddle brush to gently brush through the curls.
Any advice for someone considering it?
Follow the correct follow-up instructions and be prepared for regular maintenance. Bright red is one of those colors that can fade very quickly without proper care. You should use professional color care shampoo, wash in cold water and not wash every day. I tell my customers, the longer you can walk between shampoos, the better. If you visit the beach, lake or pool frequently, this may not be a color that suits your lifestyle.
Faded bright red
Pomegranate is as sweet a fruit as a hair color! The straight locks further enhanced the dyeing technique.
How would you describe this look?
This color was a true definition of ruby. It was deep, but it was light! Of course, this customer has very fine, curly hair. This sleek, straight style was so silky compared to where it started! I would like to show the before. You will really appreciate this artwork!
My favorite was the seamless mix. I could have divided her hair into any section and there would never be a mistake!
Any advice for someone considering it?
Entertains! Every red is an obligation. Without proper take-away products, your color will never stand a chance. Red is difficult to remove and difficult to hold all at once. With every consultation I always consider my canvas before I ask my client about her lifestyle. If hair is not healthy, it can make red really stick to porous hair and process and fade differently.
Having healthy hair is an important key to vibrant colors. It can go south very quickly. The longevity of their color and fading is just as important for the day of their color. Education for customers will keep money in their pockets and smile on their faces!
Speaking of faces, I think skin tone is very important when you choose red as your color choice. I have a lot of women sitting on my chair with very red cheeks. Red hair, against red skin, can be a terrible combination.
Bright ginger pixie
With all the apparently bad things associated with orange locks, this just proves that they're all wrong. The copper with light ginger hair color is an extravagant statement for anyone who judges any ginger heads.
How would you describe this look?
This look is liberating â with a true ambience of a femme fatale. I mean, look at them! She shines in copper charm, shows her beautiful facial features and does not hide from anything or anyone!
This cut was made by me for my beautiful, evil and inspiring boss Lady Annette (@annetteluxe). She is a very daring but fabulous woman and she needed a change right now. We dared to convert them from a long platinum pixie to this shortened ginger cut.
It's so hard to name my favorite thing about this look â maybe it's the way it just looks so light and is capable of anything that really gets me. If I saw her walking on the street, I would probably be both intimidated and intrigued.
Any advice for someone considering it?
Short hair is like that at the moment. Having a pixie is both low and high waiting. Low maintenance in the sense that you just wake up, style in a little texturing paste, and go.
However, such a short haircut would require a shape at least every 4 weeks. As for the color, copper is beautiful and one of my favorites, but is also high maintenance and would require a semi-permanent shine to look refreshing no less than every 4 weeks.
Pixies are so versatile, funny, sexy and elegant. I think practically any face shape can pull it off with styling and shape of the cut because there are so many creative and courteous pixie cuts. If you've always wanted to do something bold and spicy with your hair, do it.
Light magenta
Pretty in pink just came into town! This bright red balayage has been made very tastefully to protect the roots from the color, but not that it is completely separated from all of the vibrancy.
How would you describe this look?
This beautiful magenta hair color and cut was done by Gill Kolkman, a team member at the Washington House Salon in Innisfil, Ontario Canada!
Owner and stylist Cecile Washington had this to say about this look. This look is fun, funky and fresh! Our favorite thing about this look is how brave it is. This magenta ombré can be worn straight or with a nice soft wave to accentuate the beautiful root extension and graded layering when it comes to the cut.
Any advice for someone considering it?
If you're considering a bold, vibrant color like magenta, be ready for some maintenance. We recommend refreshing the tone every 4 weeks. At home care would be washing your hair with cold water and with color protection shampoos and conditioners.
If you live a busy lifestyle and cannot commit to maintenance, this is not the choice for you. But there are definitely plenty of fun options out there for you!
Poppy red to light brown
Cherry caramel combo with highlights? Delicious! You wear in long wavy curls? Outstanding!
How would you describe this look?
This formulation went from an all over poppy red to a deeper base, with the new growth merging into a nice balayage blend. This could certainly be a strawberry and cream formula. We didn't make our foilyage too difficult. We still wanted to see all the great play of colors in contrast.
Her cut leaves the hair away from the face. Long, round layers give us bouncy, touchable movement, and it's a great cut for more petite face shapes that are long.
The best part of this formula is its wealth. As a red head you are always looking for wealth, fun, reflection!
Any advice for someone considering it?
My red-haired conversation with my guests never looks at home maintenance and care, but luckily Lanza Healing Color is known for Color Attach System Technology. Our colors hold and hold and you will never see a more vibrant redhead come in for a refreshing one!
My guests use Color Guard to protect them from fading from water before and after showering. They use color care shampoo and conditioners, and we're discussing the importance of keeping our shampoo and style going longer by being proactive with the right style products.
Being red in the head always requires some maintenance, and you'll also want to consider whether you might have a change of heart and change your color on the street. Any kind of drastic color change can be stressful for your locks.
If a feisty red suits your personality and you can get your color update formulas to work for you instead of against you when it comes to tanning your reds, you can enjoy bright reds over and over again.
Curly red hair
Have a night and paint the city red! These glorious bright red curls can be seen all over the world.
How would you describe this look?
What I love about this look is how heavy but still portable it is! This is about as real copper red as you can achieve with permanent hair color, and the cut is a separate pixie! By separating, we cut everything below, about two inches above and below the ear, shorter.
We decided to disconnect because it allows the curls to meet more organically, but gives the illusion that it's not shorter below. This is my preferred way of cutting short hair to keep the shape very feminine with one edge!
Any advice for someone considering it?
I would talk about this color first as it can be more of a maintain than a more natural tone. We would talk about home care and what kind of color care products they would need to add to their routing. I prefer Pureology Hydrate Shampoo and Conditioner for home care followed by Redken One United Leave-in.
I would then ask about the haircut, how do you feel with the display, your ears, your neck? â to ensure that they are comfortable with this style. An elongated neck, oval to heart-shaped face, and confidence will best wear this cut!
Next I would ask her what her hair regime looks like at home and explain that this is actually very easy as long as you use suitable products to use the curl and keep the curl at bay. We used the Redken curve line, starting with the ringlet gel for hold and the curl refiner cream for a soft finish. This will help with all crunchy after effects from the gel. We dried with the Sam Villa artist series dryer and diffuser nozzle for curly hair. As soon as it was dry, we finished with a half inch curling iron and wrapped all the rotten curls around to define extra.
Bright red highlights in brown hair
A delicious mix of strawberry, ginger and reddish brown tones. These bright red highlights combine dimension with layered hair.
How would you describe this look?
This was an existing balayage that I had done for my guest in a previous service. She wanted something different and fun without lightening her hair or compromising it. It is also a color that we can easily adjust again.
I used Pulp Riots Faction 8 boosters in their red (-66) orange (-44) and yellow (-22). I simply took an inch of randomized cut and applied color to saturate the center and ends. Then I feathered myself to mix like in a traditional balayage.
After processing, I cut them with softly textured layers not only to lighten their thick hair, but to show all the colors when they are styled. I then styled them with smoothing cream and took one inch sections to curl with a 1 1/4 curling iron. Once done, I used a wide tooth comb to break up the curls and then sprayed it with a medium hold hairspray.
Any advice for someone considering it?
For guests who want to go the red route, keep in mind that it is one of the tougher colors you need to keep in your hair and requires a lot of maintenance at home.
You need to use professional color safe and sulfate free products such as shampoo, conditioner, etc. Also, you need to keep shampooing a maximum of twice, and if you do, use cold / cool water. Warming tools for styling must also be on low heat.
Everyone can turn red when it comes to portability! Whether it's a fire truck red to a chocolate cherry, an all-over color, or just a few pops, everyone can wear it, just do it!
Ruby red
Go for the gold, or in this case, ruby! The rose glitters so vividly and goes so well with your long, silky hair.
Shoulder length bright auburn
Maroon for autumn and also for all seasons. The bright crimson bright red hair is a sight especially with this wavy bob for a strikingly casual look.
Short, bright red hair
Red heads unite! The short inverted bob makes it look rounder, but a sleeker, straight front that gives both shape and flattery to the look. Ideal to bring a flush to your cheeks.
Red and blonde
A feathered ombre with platinum blonde to red colors! Waves swept to the side add a wind-blown effect that presents the look with even more movement and dynamism.
Light red to dark ombre
Estimate how the bright maroon colors turned into a bright rose at their ends. Even with such short, bright red hair with bangs, the colors were accentuated along with the facial makeup.
cherry
Jessica Rabbit would be jealous of how sensual these big, shiny, bright red curls are! The longer locks, the more you can play with it!
Red with blonde highlights
To make these red tones come out more, paint over a lighter shade as an accent. Neon orange and glowing red with bright blonde highlights are analog colors that go really well together so you never go wrong! This fiery red hair color is super hot now!

The Tlayuda Trail
Shepherd Express
Thereâs not a newly minted driverâs license-holder, gaggle of buddies in the backseat, nowhere to go in awkward underage-ness save suburban drive-thrus, nor a college-age stoner, worth his or her weight in Grateful Dead Dickâs Picks discs, or even an early adult barfly, in possession of the Grubhub app, who hasn't had a moment, maybe even something resembling a full blown affairâunseemly pant seat stains, GI stress, a burning of the heartâwith the Taco Bell Mexican Pizza.  Â
Even if you havenât, consider the guilty-pleasure little monster: two crisp pizza shells, mashy refrieds, seasoned ground beef, a creamy three cheese blend, BBQ-ish, Mexican-inspired pizza gravy, tomatoes. It covers the texture gamut, is crackly, saucy, sodium-packed, pleasantly messy but edible on-the-go. Processed running queso rivulets dangle seductively between bite edges. Then consider the weird fourth meal hours, the flexed schedule it finds itself plopped in the middle of, the mix of excitement segueing toward yawning regret. Itâs all a bit like having a baby.Â
Maybe the magic is in the joyous sum of the over-salted parts, or the conditions within which it is usually, hopefully always, consumed. Or possibly itâs just the fact that âMexican Pizzaâ is as pleasant a term combo as might exist this side of âOpen Bar.âÂ
But then ponder the sound Tlayudaâthat rough consonant collision leveling off with a pleasant oooh of an old-timey car horn, coming back up with the ahh of satisfaction. This Oaxacan specialty is the spiritual inspiration behind the aforementioned corporate calorie conglomeration. Which, despite munchie merit, is a white-washed bastardization, one on par with the Doritos Locos taco, Charlton Hestonâs portrayal of a Mexican DEA agent in âTouch of Evil,â or your drunk uncleâs Cinco de Mayo celebrations. When made with real ingredients though, a diner can expect a fresh, oily, shimmering, seared tortilla crust holding, or pocketing, some sort of earthy meat-and-bean band, half-melted cheese layers letting mouth warmth finish the cooking task. Itâs usually topped off by clingy clumps of avocado, maybe a flourish of crema velvetiness, crowned with some sort of chile pepper pop. Â
Often served closed-face, the tlayuda in this form can come across as the more successful, well-rounded cousin of the quesadilla. Itâs maybe a bit fatter. But in the doing-alright-for-myself kind of way, as the ingredients melt and tumble and spill together like late night at a wine mixer. In the fold of protein, cheese, crusty carbs, some bites can resemble those of a smushed, airless calzone. Or there is the version that harkens closer to an actual pizza, with manageable wedges, a segregation of flavor proponents, proper ratios, never too much crust. Â Â Â Â
Whichever iteration, there is a time in adulthood for refinement, for proper exploration and broadening horizons, for consciously eschewing Big Box pig-outs. At the very least, in the hopes of smoothing some rough primitive urges for sopping grease and base beef pleasure points, hereâs a tour of Milwaukeeâs finest Mexican âpizza.â Because thereâs also a time to admit, in most all cases, Taco Bell is actually quite bad.    Â
Villas Restaurant
Of the multitude mistakes Iâve made in life, leaving Villas with a tlayuda hastily ordered âto goâ ranks somewhere between studying journalism and beginning the previously hinted-at affair with Taco Bell. The foil-wrapped half-moon shaped monster was heavy enough on the passenger seat that the Honda thought it needed to turn on the airbag. I wondered if I should buckle the big guy in. By the time we got home though, it was all accident anyway: a mushy, soggy mess, impenetrable by fork, cooled and coalescing.     Â
Yet two indicators instinctively led me to the ridiculous conclusion that I would again be on my way west on Greenfield Avenue, in a matter of days really, for a return to the scene of the calorie crime. One, like any conscientious father concerned about poisoning and decent palate-making, I stole a monitoring bite of my daughterâs quesadilla. Then another. It was a bursting, beautifully-golden crisped tortilla, packed with oozing, overflowing cheese, bits of which had touched the flattop, become blackened with a delicious bit of caramelization. Then there is the salsa. Probably a front-of-classroom sort of MIAD student could name the color that is the orange-ish, yellow-ish, burnt grass-looking stuff in the squirt bottle, but it seems too abstract to try, like trying to describe a feeling in a dream. Singular in taste too, it is a sauce at once punchy and inviting, scorching and addictive.  Â
My return was also hastened by the pleasantness of the place: the blue-on-blue floor and table motif, the warm orange walls, the Easter decorations, fake flowers and plants, the Packers ceiling fans. Mostly I enjoyed the tuba pop bumping from the kitchen, competing with the Mexican soap operas. Itâs nice to remember that there are people back there, people working, rocking out at work too, just like me and you. Maybe working harder though, based on the mass of the 14-buck tlayuda. It is sized to emasculate, dropped at your table with a smirk like itâs a very big joke. Itâs large enough for sustenance for somewhere between three meals and the time you just get sick of it or forget itâs in your refrigerator.Â
The closed shell is crispy and oil-shimmering, fresh out of a bath it seems. And while takeout was a disaster, there is something within where it only keeps getting better as it sits in front of you, gathering itself as you eat, the chorizo settling, the queso warming, gooping, becoming happier, friendlier with the other ingredients, even with the subdued beans, which need some coaxing out from under their shell home. Thereâs actually almost enough lettuce to make you feel something approaching responsible life decision-making. But then you are cracking the chippy skin again, and thereâs no turning from the fact itâs a plate of sheer fried bombast.Â
Why does it need to be so big? Itâs a question along the lines of âwhere do we go when we die?â Which, if you eat a whole one, you may find the answer to sooner than later. Or, if like me, you eat half with way too much of the salsaâunable to stop with the squirtingâyou have a more sure destination: A late afternoon siesta with just a brief stop in bathroom purgatory. Â
Chicken Palace
There are few places in town where the gulf between expectation and execution is wider: the overly-bustling corner of 35th and National feels like a frenzy, what with the packed lot of Asian restaurants, beaters speeding too fast, trying to make the light, too loud without mufflers, and the bus stops so crowded, occasionally looking like the characters within could easily double as a police lineup. Inside thereâs a grimy tile floor, Mexican soap operas at uncomfortable volumes, and a gaudy neon-centric color scheme that reeks of schmaltz and Breaking Badâs Pollos Hermanos. But most importantly thereâs a tiny counter with a smiling woman and a cash register, offering a chance to request happiness while yielding free whiffs of endlessly grilling chicken.Â
Itâs the specialty, if you couldnât tell by the royal name. And it is best in whatever form allows the most usage of the deep, dank reservoir of a salsa bar. Within explore the neon verde, cool and pepper-y like a Mexican relish; the onion and habanero pickled mix of capsaicin angst; the bright tomato, with a sneaky spice finish; the dark rojo, both hellish and earthy; the thick, emulsified light green cream that I would like to request one day be splashed around my gravestone on a weekly basis. You have to ask for salsa cups, so, be reasonable, just get cinco.       Â
The tlayuda more than fits the order for framework in this case. Coming charred and burnt-smelling, it is folded into a form that is almost sandwich, almost panini, almost three-piece erector set. The bites are crackly, foundationally-threatening for those not paying attention, but there is still a doughy, chewy finish that renders it something like wood-fired Roman pizza. Creamy black beans are front and forward, mixing nearly half with the shredded, orange-hued chicken. Incredibly moist, itâs nice to be reminded how good poultry can be when itâs not a menu afterthought. It smacks of salt, time, care, a red hot grill. The lettuce and cheese are thusly overshadowed, wilty, the avocado is mostly buried. But that seems all the better, creating a blank pollo slate, one buttery with beans, crisp with a cracker corn crust, allowing the salsa to shine like your favorite âza toppings. All in rotation with every bite.Â
Taqueria La CostenaÂ
This rolling red doll house parked down 27th street from St. Lukeâs Hospitalâlooming like both health warning and some securityâoffers probably Milwaukeeâs finest take of the pizza form of tlayuda. The corn crust, acting as pure conveyance, is a bit floppy, lightly oiled and griddled, a consistency of an every-corner New York City slice, strong enough but needing some second hand assistance. Thereâs lettuce and tomato for body, a smidge of a smear of refried pintos, and svelty sour cream to smooth it all out. Queso warmly hugs the shell, cilantro flutters about like pleasantly unchecked flora sprouting between salty sidewalk cracks. Itâs a beautiful, colorful site, sitting there in itâs styrofoam home on your passenger seat. It can also be aesthetically enhanced by the dark red, smoky salsa, everything enticing enough for me to risk listeria from a recent avocado recall, the hunks sitting on top so soft and green and fatty.Â
But really it is all in unintrusive service of the bountiful meat-of-choice. Chorizo, which often makes the best filling, almost always makes the best topping, as it also would and could on many Americanized sorts of pizzaâsay, the meat-loverâs special. It is crumbly, salty, satisfying in a crisped sausage way, but better, garlickier, more chile pepper-exotic. Here it comes perfectly charred, black but juicy, generously bountiful.Â
âSeven minutesâ was the quoted wait time from the happy man in the little window, a timekeeping call met, showing he knows how this all goes, that it is far from his first tlayuda rodeo. Back in the car, it becomes one of those dishes you look at, and even on an empty lunchtime stomach you think youâll have at least half to save for later. But then, maybe barely longer than it took to finish your order, maybe emboldened by some clean test results at the hospital, or perhaps hungered from a foliage eye feast at the nearby Domes, there is nothing left but but meat-hued carnage, some debris almost forming a police chalk outline of a greasy front-seat crime. Thereâs also more than enough satisfaction to realize that taco trucks are the true, adult form of the drive-through window.      Â
