Emergency

Plot: Kix panics when he hears you've gotten hurt.

Warnings: Mild language, one bump on the head

Word Count: 639

Author’s Note: Did I really choose Kix for the bingo prompt "emergency"? Yes, because I couldn't not choose him.

Kix ran down the corridor to the hangar bay, medkit in hand. He had to hurry. You were hurt.

He was counting the seconds as he ran for the repair section of the hangar bay. Seconds could be the difference between life and death.

When he arrived into the bay, he came to a quick stop. You were okay. You were upright and smiling.

Or, at least you were until you saw Kix’s panicked look as he looked at you. His cheeks were a bit flushed and his eyes were wide, chest heaving from his mad dash to the bay. He walked over to you, fist gripped so tight around the handle of the medkit his knuckles were growing white.

“Kix, it was just a bump on the head. It’s not a big emergency.” You start to stand up, but Kix stops you.

“I have to check you for a concussion. You did hit your head.”

You sigh, but sit still as he does his concussion check for you. As expected, he comes up with nothing out of the ordinary. No nausea, no headache, no sensitivity to light… you hadn’t even passed out.

He cleared his throat and tried not to feel foolish. “Well, everything looks good. I’m glad you are okay.”

Quickly, he stood up and walked out of the hangar bay with his head held high, pretending not to notice your look of confusion as he stiffly went back to the medbay.

Stupid. When Echo told him it was just a bump on the head, he should have listened.

But this was you. Kix had tried and tried to ignore those feelings growing for you, but they were beginning to overwhelm him. He could barely talk to you anymore. And he knew you were starting to notice.

He can overhear Jesse in the corridor as he’s walking past. “So Kix comes barreling through the corridor like his ass is in fire, thinking it’s a major medical emergency just because Y/N was injured.”

Fives laughs. “He has it so bad for them. But here we have the denier and the oblivious. It’s like watching a show.”

“I dunno about you, but it’s kinda my favorite show,” Jesse laughs. “Each interaction makes me want to grab snacks and watch intently.”

Kix finally had enough. “Alright, are you two done?”

Both of his brothers looked at him with wide eyes, but Fives recovered first. “Depends, are you done painfully pining over them?”

Kix pursed his lips, then turned away, causing Fives to whoop in laughter.

“Pining?” came a familiar voice from around the corner, causing Kix’s stomach to turn. He blanched and his eyes widened. It was you. You had heard, and you had heard everything.

As you came around the corner, Kix slowly spun on his heel and Jesse dragged Fives away.

“Kix, is it true?” you asked softly.

Kix swallowed thickly, then nodded. “Yeah,” he said, his voice cracking. “Yeah, I like you.”

You blushed a little, then smiled. “I like you, too. I have for a while.”

His expression brightened. “Yeah?”

Your chuckle was music to his ears. “Yeah, you goof. Why do you think I get so quiet around you?”

“I thought you may just not like me.”

“Very much the opposite. Thank you for checking on me earlier.”

“I’ll always drop everything for you, cyar’ika.”

You bit your lower lip and smiled shyly.

He grinned. “Could I kiss you?”

You nod and smile, leaning forward. He meets you in the middle, the kiss soft and slow. You both had waited for this for so long. His hands reach to touch your shoulders when a whistle gets directed at the kiss from Fives. Both you and Kix flip him off without breaking away from the kiss, earning a laugh from down the corridor.
