After sipping the last of his morning coffee, Will Halstead pulls out his phone to call his brother, Jay.

"Good morning, dearest brother," Will says in his greeting. "Is it a good time to talk? You're not currently kicking doors, chasing perps, are you?" He jokingly asks. It has not yet passed seven in the morning. But it is always a possibility with his cop brother.

Jay takes the call, still half asleep, "This is not a good way to wake up. Just so you know,"

"Is there any better way to wake up than listen to your brother's lovely voice?" Will continues his humor.

“Lots of things are better than this,” Jay fusses, “So, what's up? and it's better to be important,"

Will begins to tell the story, "Owen got in an incident a few days ago at the swimming pool,"

"Damn! What happened? Is he okay? Is he at the hospital now?" Jay suddenly comes awake.

"Calm down, you worrywart. Let me finish. Owen and his friends were playing, a bit careless in the pool. He almost drowned, but someone rescued him. We checked him out at Med. Owen is okay now. Said he cannot wait to go back to the pool," concludes Will.

"Oh, thank god. That kid is so reckless. I should probably teach him another swimming lesson, right?" Jay suggests to his brother.

"Maybe in a while. Nat is still not sure she can let Owen back in the pool," Will thinks.

"That's understandable. But living in Chicago, that kid should be prepared," insists Jay.

"Yeah, I agree with you. But that's not the only reason why I called, by the way," Will changes the topic. Jay knows from his tone that Will is up to something. Something that usually ends up with a volunteer-Jay.

"What do you want now?" sighs Jay.

"Nat and I invited the person who helped Owen to our place for dinner tomorrow. We want you to come," Will proposes his idea.

"Why should I?" Jay protests the idea.

"Don't you want to meet the person who saved Owen? Show them your gratitude for saving your precious nephew?" Will coaxes his stubborn brother.

"Isn't that supposed to be the parents' job? I'm just the Fun Uncle!" grumbles Jay.

"Then you should join the fun dinner with us tomorrow. Or you will get demoted!” Will threatens further.

"Ergh, okay, fine. No promises, though. If an urgent case comes up, I cannot make it to the fun dinner," Jay finally yields, even with his sarcasm.

"Noted. Please bear in mind, if you deliberately avoid our dinner invitation, your title would be demoted to Lame Uncle," Will reminds Jay.

"Even then, I'm still the coolest," Jay mutters before he hangs up the call.

Before long, Jay's phone buzzes with a text message from his brother.

Put it in your calendar, Fun Uncle. Tomorrow, 7 PM, dinner at our place.

Jay leaves the message unanswered. But he schedules it on his calendar, nonetheless. Whatever the reason is, Jay always loves to visit his sweet nephew.

The cab stops in front of a lovely house. You open the text message from Dr. Halstead to recheck the address. Stepping out of the cab, you walk to the front door and knock.

You thought about bringing wine for dinner. But you're not sure that would be a good idea with Owen here. Instead, you have a box of chocolate as a gift to your host. For a second, you wonder, what if somebody is allergic to chocolate? Before you could overreact, the door is open.

"Hi, Y/N!! So glad you could make it. Come in, come in!" Dr. Manning greets you at the door.

"Hi, Dr. Manning. Thanks for inviting me to your house. You have a gorgeous house," You compliment your host.

"Oh, thank you. But please, call me Natalie. I am not wearing a lab coat or a scrub now,"

Further inside the house, you see Dr. Halstead is setting up the dinner table while Owen is sitting on one of the chairs.

"Hi, Y/N! Welcome!" Dr. Halstead welcomes you.

"Good evening, Dr. Halstead," You return with a smile.

"Yeah, that's not going to work for tonight. Please, just call me Will," He orders you.

"Hey bud, do you remember Miss Y/N? She helped you at the pool a few days ago?" Will asks Owen.

Owen remembers the lady from the pool. But he's still embarrassed and sullenly looks down, "I remember,"

You approach Owen slowly, "Hi Owen, my name is Y/N. Nice to see you again,"

Owen is still avoiding your gaze.

So you continue to talk to him, "Oh, here, I have a box of chocolate for you and your family," You pass the paper bag to Owen.

"I hope you like it. My best friend and I always eat chocolate when we were having a bad day. Then our day gets better," You say to Owen, attempting to make him feels better.

"Really?" Owen eyes you curiously.

"Oh yeah, totally," You beam at him.

"Thank you," Owen looks up and pleads to his mother, "Can we have it now, Mom?"

"Let's have it after dinner, hon. There is a cheesy lasagna warming in the oven, right?" Natalie tries to distract Owen from having dessert before dinner. You cringe at your not-so-great idea and mouth an apology to her. She graciously waves it off.

"Oh yeah! Miss Y/N, you must try the lasagna. It is so yummy because I helped Mom make it," brags Owen.

"I cannot wait! Is there anything I can help with for dinner?" You offer.

"No, everything is almost done. Owen, could you please show Miss Y/N where the bathroom is, so she could wash her hand?" Natalie prompts, "and then we can start eating when you come back,"

"Okay. Let's go, Miss Y/N. I could also show you my shark toothbrush!" Owen pulls you toward the bathroom.

When you come back, there are four plates set on the table of five settings.

"Is Dr. Rhodes coming for dinner?" You politely gesture the fifth setting.

"Connor? No," Will is confused for a second. "Oh, it's for my brother. I asked him to come, but Jay usually got caught up at work and came late," He further reveals.

"Ah, the cop brother," You nod in understanding, "That's good. I was worried you guys were too trusting of a stranger,"

The doctors let out a chuckle at your thought, "Yes, my brother is a cop,"

"Should we wait for him?" You offer to hold the dinner off.

"No, we can start now," Natalie objects, "If we wait until Jay arrives, the food's going to be cold,"

You take a bite and praise Owen on his lasagna, "It tastes great, Owen! You are a good help to your mom,"

Owen is too busy with his noodle. He only responds with a big grin. Shortly, you hear knocks on the door.

"That would be Jay," Will gets up from his chair to the door, and Natalie stands up to pull one portion of lasagna out of the oven.

"Have you met Uncle Jay, Miss Y/N?" Owen asks you.

"No, sweetie. I have not," You shake your head.

"Uncle Jay is super fun. I like to play with him. We can play together, Miss Y/N. You are fun too. Because you bring chocolate," Owen explains his logic to you.

Trying not to laugh, you reply, "Well, thank you, Owen. But I think you are the most fun of all, right?"

Will soon comes back in, followed by an extremely handsome man in a fitting black t-shirt and grey jeans. You notice that the man is carrying a gun on his hips and a badge snugged on his belt. He glances at you before whispering something to Will. When the man steps to the other side of the house, you cannot help but stare at his back.

The screeching sound of Will's chair jerks you away from your staring. You keep your gaze down to your plate, hoping Will didn't catch you staring at his brother. You don't see it, but the doctors are exchanging smirks across the dining table. They definitely caught you out.

When Jay returns to the dining table, he ruffles Owen's hair before finding his seat next to you.

"You must be the guest of honor for tonight?" Jay extends his hand to you, "Jay Halstead, Will's brother,"

You clean your hand with the napkins before you take Jay's hand. "Y/N Y/LN. Nice to meet you. Not sure about being the guest of honor, though," You throw a small smile.

"Well, I heard you rescued Owen, so I think it's fair to make you an honorable guest," declares Jay.

"How are you doing, bud? I was worried when Will told me," Jay checks his nephew.

"It was scary, Uncle Jay. My friends and I were playing. I chased David, and Noah was chasing me. Then suddenly, I got pulled down! I was afraid when the water entered my nose, and then I cannot breathe!" Owen recites his experience.

"Oh, bud. It must have been scary. You have to be more careful next time. I know playing is fun, but you have to keep paying attention to your surrounding," Jay patiently advises Owen. Owen nods his reply, looking solemn in his round eyes.

"It was very fortunate that Y/N was nearby when it happened," Will adds to the conversation, "Do you often swimming there, Y/N?"

"Yeah, maybe two or three times a week. I usually come early morning or an hour before closing," You admit.

"Wow, are you preparing for a competition or something?" Jay baffles.

You laugh at Jay's comment, "No, it was not like that. I need regular exercise for my legs. My physical therapist recommends swimming,"

"It's the left one, isn’t it?" infers Natalie.

"Yeah, how do you know?" Feeling surprised by her question, your tone was slightly accusing, too. Did she somehow able to look at your medical record?

"When you came to the hospital that day..." Natalie starts to say.

"Ah, I should have known you noticed it," You are relieved to be wrong this time. "Your patients must have hard times lying to you, Dr. Manning,"

You quickly distract her before she can say anything more about your injury. Experiencing it was already hard. Talking about it was even more difficult.

"Well, my patients are mostly under 12 years old. They rarely lie. However, their parents are whole different stories," Natalie tells you.

"Personally, I like it when I can prove to my patients that they were lying," Will adds his opinion.

"That because your ED is attracting lots of nutters," cracks Jay.

"You are also a frequent flyer on my ED, Jay. It means you are one of the nutters," Will points out.

Laughing at their banter, you polish your meal while listening to the family conversation at the table.

"I finished my meal, Mommy. Can I have Miss Y/N chocolate, now?" begs Owen to his mother.

"Let's wait for Uncle Jay to finish his dinner, then we can have the chocolate together," replies Natalie.

"You have chocolates, little man? Gonna share it with me, right?" demands Jay to Owen.

"Miss Y/N brings lots of chocolate. She said she ate lots of chocolate with her best friend. You are my friend, Uncle Jay. So I will share it with you," states Owen. In agreement, Jay offers his bump to Owen.

God, this man is unbelievable. Good looking, stable job, and great with children. What would be his flaw? You ask yourself.

When Jay finishes his dinner, Owen drags him to the living room. You offer to help with the dishes. But Natalie refused your help.

"No, no. You go sit with Owen and Jay in the living room. Between Will and I, we can tackle these dishes in no time,"

So you go to the living room and find Jay sitting on the floor. Owen is sitting on the couch right in front of Jay, with your gift bag in his lap. He carefully opens the bag with Jay's assistance.

"This looks fancy. Belgian Pralines?" comments Jay once they got the box out of the bag.

"Nah, It was not that fancy. I only picked it because it tasted similar to what we have back home," You explain.

True to her words, Natalie and Will come to the living room shortly.

"Owen, you can only have one piece of chocolate for tonight, okay? We can save the rest for tomorrow," Natalie dictates to his son.

"But, Mommy..." whines Owen to his mother.

Natalie is not deterred by his son's whine, "One or none,"

"I will take the deal if I were you, bud," Jay fake-whispers to his nephew.

Grumbling his agreement, Owen turns to the box on his lap, meticulously inspecting it.

"I cannot choose! They all look delicious!" He cries his frustration.

"You can try the round one. It has caramel filling," You suggest to Owen. "Or if you like coconut, the triangle one got sweet coconut in it,"

"It got coconut in there??" Owen gasps in wonder. "I will take that. I like coconut, and the triangle is my favorite shape,"

Owen decisively picks his chocolate. The first bites into the triangle made his eyes go wide, astonished. Owen quickly takes another bite. Natalie, Will, and Jay then follow Owen, taking each different piece from the box.

"Ooh, I got one with orange filling. Hmm, interesting..." Natalie notes her pick.

"I expected the caramel filling would be too sweet. But it's not that sweet," remarks Will after his bite.

Jay, though, doesn't express anything about his chocolate.

"What about yours, Uncle Jay? What flavor is it?" Owen asks curiously.

"I got dark chocolate,"

"Did it taste good?"

"It's bitter," Jay informs his little inquisitor.

Owen pulls a face, "You can finish all the bitter chocolate, Uncle Jay. I only pick the sweet one,"

Jay grins at his nephew, "Thanks, bud!"

"Come on, Owen. You need to take a bath, brush your teeth, and get ready for bed," Natalie instructs his son.

Owen is thinking about negotiating her orders. He still wants to play with his uncle and their guest.

Before he could say anything, Natalie disrupts him, "Or Uncle Jay will take all the chocolate home with him,"

"Nope, I'm going now," Owen jumps from the couch and goes to the bathroom, followed by his mother.

Will also stands up from the couch, "You guys want anything to drink? Coffee, tea? Wine, maybe?"

Even though you want to take the wine, you decline his offer, "No, I'm good, thanks,"

"Just water for me, bro," Jay calls out to his brother as he moves to sit next to you.

"Which one is your favorite?" He asks you, referring to the chocolate box.

"From that box? Dark chocolate," You tell him.

"You got another favorite?" Jay seems intrigued.

"The liquor-filled ones," You sheepishly confess to him.

Jay raises his eyebrow, "That sounds fantastic,"

You laugh at his remark, "Yeah, they are good. Especially the one with Amaretto,"

"Hmm, I can imagine," Jay hums as he picks another dark chocolate from Owen's box.

Worried that Jay would take you as an alcoholic, you make another note, "But, dark chocolate is sort of aphrodisiac, though,"

"Yeah, I can see that. It's just purely good," Jay agrees with your choice.

"Pair them with red wine will make it even better. A box of dark chocolate, a nice red wine, spends it with a good company, guarantee you will have a good night,"

God, was it too suggestive?? You are internally freaking out.

"Actually, that would be nice,"

Jay gazes at you for a moment and then leans in your direction. Like a different pole of a magnet, you pull in closer. You can see light dust of freckles on Jay’s nose and wonder if his lips would taste like dark chocolate.

“Here you go, bro!” Suddenly, Will comes back with two bottles of water in his right hand and a cup of tea in his left. You abruptly move away from Jay, eyes down to the floor, embarrassed.

Jay takes one of the water bottles and gives an unimpressed look to his brother. Will grins cheekily in reply.

“Here’s water for you, Y/N. In case you get thirsty,” Will teases you.

You can feel your face turned red, “Thanks, Dr. Halstead,” Putting the title back to his name as you try to be cool about it.

There is an awkward silence for a moment before Will breaks it, “I think I have yet to ask you, but what do you do, Y/N?”

Relieved by the change of topic, you happily answer, "I work for a record label company,"

"What does one do at a record label company?" Jay asks you curiously.

"Lots of things. But mostly I produce music and write songs," You give a short detail.

“So you’re a musician?” Will points out.

"Yes. But not a performing one? If that makes any sense?" You try to explain your situation.

"I do not really enjoy performing in front of live audiences. I'm not comfortable facing a big crowd," You pause to see if Will and Jay understood.

"You got stage fright?" Jay guesses.

You throw a bashful smile, "A big one. The best I can do is performing on the radio. I used to work as a DJ on a late-night radio show," You begin to open up.

"On that show, I got to play whatever music I want, got to talk to people I'd like. There weren't many people listening to late-night radio, you know? So the station let me do whatever I want," You giggle through your story.

"I bet most of them would be late-shift workers, like we do," Will reckons.

"Yup. And fellow insomniacs," The three of you let out a laugh.

"At that time, I also played music from many unsigned, aspiring musicians. Sometimes, mine too, if I feel confident about it. Those were the only time I dare to "perform" if we can call it that way,"

"What kind of music are you producing now? Anything I might know?" Will explores, "Jay won't know anything, though. The last record he listened to was probably Ms. Jackson by Outkast,"

Vehemently, Jay protests, "Hey!"

You laugh at their spite. You are an only child, but your best friend is only two years younger than you. Most of the time, you banter like this too.

"It is a good song, though," You tell Will on Jay's behalf.

"Am I right??" Jay points it out to Will.

"Yeah, it is. But it's like two decades ago, man!" Will argues, "C'mon, Y/N, help me up here. You need to tell Jay here about songs you produced. He might wanna listen to new songs if you wrote them,"

You immediately blush from that playful tease from Will.

"I'm not sure you would be into it. Mostly I made dance music. Electronics and others," You clumsily stutter, "But recently, I'm working on a music podcast where I can play and tinker lots of music, not exclusively of dance music,"

Your eyes darted between these two men, "I'm sorry, it's so presumptuous of me. I didn't mean that you have to listen to it,"

The brothers quickly negate your apology.

"No, no, not at all," Jay shakes his head.

“Totally going to check that podcast out,” Will declares, "Where can I find it?"

But before you can answer, Owen runs to the living room in his pajamas.

“Ah, ready for bedtime?” Will stands up from his seat.

Standing in front of you, Owen opens his arms for a hug, “Thank you for the chocolate, Miss Y/N,”

“You are welcome, Owen. I hope it helps you feel better,” You hug him back.

“Yes, but I feel much better if I can have one more?” He dubiously looks at his mom.

“You would also feel better after a good night's sleep. So enough chocolate for tonight,” Natalie amusedly retorts.

Owen moves to hug Jay, “Good night, Uncle Jay. Remember, only the bitter chocolates for you,”

Chuckling, Jay rubs Owen's back gently, “I will not touch your sweet chocolate, I promise. Sleep well, bud,”

After the parents come back from putting Owen down to bed, you consider that it’s probably a good time to leave.

“I think I better go home now. You guys must be tired after a long day at work,” You rise from your seat.

“Oh no, you don’t have to leave now. I was going to open a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc,” Natalie persuades you to stay.

All of a sudden, you hear a ping from a phone. Follow by another ping. And another ping. Will pulls out the phone from his pocket and momentarily reads it, “Med needs me to come in,”

“Guess the party’s over,” Jay quips. Natalie let out a conceded sigh.

You pull out your phone, try to order rideshare to go home.

“I can drive you home,” offers Jay when he catches a glimpse of your phone screen.

“Ah, I don’t want to impose,” You try to resist.

Jay peeks at your phone again to see your address. “No, you won’t. It's on my way back anyway,”

“You sure?” You check again.

“Absolutely,” answers Jay confidently.

“Okay, then. Thank you,” You flash a smile to Jay that instantly mirrors back.

“Let me just quickly get my things,” Jay goes to grab his gun and badge.

When he comes back, Natalie and Will hug Y/N goodbye at the door.

“Thanks again for inviting me to dinner. It was wonderful,” You say to the doctors.

“Yes, it was! We should do it again sometimes. Maybe make it a picnic at the park when the weather is good,” Natalie recommends.

“Yeah, maybe by the lake? We could go swimming,” You concur with humor.

Natalie rolls her eyes while Will and Jay are sniggering. You share good night wishes with the hosts before leaving the house.

Connor Rhodes x Reader Motherfucking Done

requested prompt: Hey!😊 Could you write an imagine with Connor Rhodes, like the reader is a doctor, and he is jealous of her friendship with Will? Cute ending maybe. Thank you so much

warnings: swearing, pregnancy complications, this is shit, I’ll probably redo it later, but I’m so tired and stressed, oh and Cornelius Rhodes murdered his wife and no one can tell me otherwise

You and Connor returned to the U.S. as fast as you could. Connor more anxious than you, but then again, he had reason to. Two weeks ago you and your husband were at a party thrown by one of his patients at his penthouse. His massive, over the top, Fast and Furious 7 penthouse. It was three stories with a balcony with a pool. You and Connor always felt out of place at these parties, not even Connor had grown up around such extravagant wealth. But you made do, it was part of doctor-patient culture apparently, so you went. You hadn’t been feeling all that well, nauseous and with a skull-splitting headache. Connor had gotten another email from his sister, so you didn’t want to stress him out more than he already was. You and Connor had mostly stuck to the shade of the indoors, but eventually, you both had to go outside. Connor went to socialize with the host while you went to the third floor to the balcony that hung over the pool. There was a bar there, but you weren’t interested in alcohol. You didn’t think you could stomach it, but you hadn’t been able to stomach anything lately. You’d just sat at a table with a large umbrella and ordered a water.

You’d started feeling dizzy, the heat was suddenly beyond unbearable. You started panting and you knew that stressed out or not, you needed to tell Connor what was going on and leave. Something was very, very wrong. You turned in your seat, waving trying to get his attention. You leaned against the railing while still sitting down and he didn’t notice again. So and flimsy, shaking legs you stood up, clutching the railing. Sweat was pouring down your face and neck, it became so much more difficult to breathe, you were about to try yelling his name over the blaring music when, in a matter of seconds, you felt like you were going to faint, your entire body went limp, and you fell unconscious.

When you woke up you were, not only in a hospital, but the one you worked at. Connor, who was clutching your hand and praying in Hebrew noticed you stirring. “Y/N, sweetheart? Oh thank heavens, how are you feeling?”

“Groggy. What happened?”

“You fell off of the balcony at the top on the penthouse, three stories into the pool. Why didn’t you tell me you weren’t feeling well?”

“It wasn’t bad when we left for the party, for most of the time we were there even. It was just at the end, I tried to wave at you, but looking back on it I probably should have just gotten one of the waiters to get you. I’m sorry.”

“Don’t be sorry. Please don’t be. The, uh, the doctors found out what was wrong though.”

“Really? What? Oh please tell me it’s not cancer, you know I’ve got a family history of that.”

“No, you don’t have cancer. You, uh... You’re pregnant.”

“I’m pregnant? Like with a baby?”

“Yeah, heat just doesn’t agree with some women and pregnancy though, so we need to move.”

“I’m pregnant.”

“Yeah, you are... We’re going to be parents.”

“We’re going to be parents.” The dam finally broke and happy tears flooded your face. Connor joined you seconds after, but his tears were a combination of joy and relief, after all, he did watch you fall three stories into a pool.

You and Will had gone to med school in New York together. You’d been fair acquaintances, but he was a bit too cocky and you were a bit too serious. You both decided to have two specialties, the one you shared was emergency department medicine. You became Facebook friends, but that was about it. Truthfully, you didn’t think you’d see him in person again unless there was a reunion. So you were a bit surprised when you ran into him on your way to your OB appointment. “Y/N? It’s been a while, how are you?”

“I’m doing great. Really, really great, actually. I didn’t know that you came back to Chicago, though. When we were in school you always said you’d never come back.”

“Things changed. Congrats, by the way,” Will gestured to your obviously pregnant belly, “how far along are you? How are the symptoms?”

“Five months. Uh, the symptoms have been really bad. And I’m just on my way to an appointment though so I should get going. But maybe we could get dinner sometime, I’d love for my husband to meet you so that he’ll finally believe all the crazy med school stories I have thanks to you. He works here too, actually.” You weren’t kidding, pregnancy had taken a huge toll on you. You had wretched morning sickness, high blood pressure, gestational diabetes, and a pregnancy-related iron deficiency. It was a quick walk from the entrance to the elevator to the OB ward, so you thought you’d be fine, but you were starting to feel weak and Will noticed. “Hey, are you okay?”

“I need to sit down.” Will whipped around and grabbed a wheelchair for you, helping you to get in. “What’s wrong do I need to call your doctor or husband?”

“Honestly, I already feel better, but would you mind taking me to OB or getting someone else who can? This has just been a difficult pregnancy overall, so feeling faint really isn’t unusual for me.”

“Yeah, I’ll take you, don’t worry.”

“Thanks, I’m just gonna text Connor and let him know, he was going to try to meet me there if he can get away from work for a minute.”

“You don’t happen to mean Connor Rhodes, do you?”

“I do, why?”

You found out why when Connor burst through the doors just after you and Will had entered. He kissed you on your forehead and gave you a once over. “Y/N, are you okay?”

“Connor, I’m okay. I just started feeling weak so Will got me a wheelchair. I think that I was just on my feet too long, well too long while pregnant. I really hate that I can’t do what I used to be able to...”

“I know, but you should have just gotten help at the door, here let’s go talk to Dr. Hajjar. Thanks, Halstead, I’ve got it from here.”

“Are you sure about that?”

“Excuse me?”

“Will!”

“You heard me, Rhodes, why didn’t you meet her at the car or entrance? You can’t really think you’re too important to help your pregnant wife.”

“Will that’s not-”

“That’s enough Halstead, you should get back to the ED, where your obnoxious presence is actually required.”

“Okay, that’s more than enough jabs from both of you. Will, thank you for helping me get here after I tried to get here myself when I probably shouldn’t have, Connor, I’m sorry for being so stubborn and I’m glad you had time today to come to another of my appointments which are happening more and more frequently.”

Will and Connor begrudgingly nodded at each other. “Thanks for getting her here safe Halstead.”

You decided to hold off on dinner together after seeing how little they got along. Having only realized at that first meeting that the ‘doctor douche’ your husband ranted about so much was your friend from med school. So instead you did what you could to keep the peace whenever you were in the hospital, which was frequent, but their pissing contest was grating on your nerves. It all came to a head the day you went into labour two weeks early. Connor was finishing up a surgery with Dr. Downey so Will was the one in the ED when you were rolled in. “Get Connor, Will.”

“Are you sure Y/N?”

“YES I’M SURE!”

Connor came running into treatment four minutes later and gently kissed you all over your face. “I’m here, Y/N. I love you so much.” Will, who had been holding your hand while you waited for Connor, scoffed.

“ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME WILLIAM?! I AM SO OVER THIS SHITTING CONTEST YOU HAVE WITH CONNOR. YOU ARE BOTH GROWN-ASS MEN GET OVER YOURSELVES. YOU ARE BOTH GOING TO APOLOGIZE TO EACH OTHER AND HUG RIGHT NOW BECAUSE I AM MOTHERFUCKING DONE!”

“Y/N-”

“WILLIAM SEAMUS HALSTEAD I KNOW THAT YOUR MOTHER TAUGHT YOU BETTER THAN TO INCUR THE WRATH OF A PREGNANT WOMAN!”

“I’m sorry, Will.”

“I’m sorry, Connor.”

“Y/N Y/L/N you are officially my favourite person in the world, I was just about to ring their necks!”

“No problem Maggie.” You gave a weak smile as another contraction hit and Dr. Hajjar looked under the blanket before nodding. “Alright, Y/N, it’s time to push. If you’re not her husband or part of the delivery team; get out.”

Five days later you were still in the hospital, because of all the complications you’d had during pregnancy. Dr. Hajjar wanted to make sure your blood pressure wasn’t a high average before she discharged you. So when Natalie went into labour, you could hear her screams from down the hall. You’d also been where Will briefly went to hide with his tail in between his legs after Helen, Natalie’s mother in law, dressed him down. When you heard her screaming for Will, where he was, you gave Connor one look before he sighed and called Will.

Connor briefly appeared at his father’s ‘I-want-control-as-much-of-my-son’s-life-as-possible-so-I-donated-money-in-my-wife’s-name-for-mental-health-when-it’s-mostl-likely-that-I-murdered-her’ ceremony. He only went for the speech, and when it was over he approached his sister. “Connor, it’s nice to finally see you. You’ve been back in Chicago how long?”

“Almost four months. I, uh, want you to meet my wife and daughter.”

“You- what? Who? How?”

“Well I personally have absolutely no idea how I got lucky enough to have a baby with my wife Y/N, much less have her love me as much as I love her, but I’ve decided not to look a gift horse in the mouth.”

“How old is your daughter?”

“Five days today.”

“Oh my God... When can I-”

“Now. You can meet them now.”

“I’ll get dad-”

“Claire don’t. Please. He’s the reason I left Chicago, you’re the reason I came back. I just don’t want the happiness I feel to end just yet.”

“Okay.” She hooked her arm around his as he led her out to the hall. “Did you really come back for me?”

“Well Y/N couldn’t stand the heat while pregnant, but you’re the reason we came back here and not to Seattle.”

You were cradling your bundle of joy and poop, Aviva Nadya Rhodes, in the lounge chair when Connor and Claire came in. “Hi, you must be Claire, I’m Y/N.”

“Hi, it’s nice to meet you too. Is it okay if I hold- Aviva?”

“Sure, here just sit down on the loveseat and I’ll pass her to you.”

“Oh, she’s so tiny. And she looks just like you Y/N. Doesn’t look like she got anything from Connor. You sure are a lucky girl, huh?” Claire had Aviva’s head in the crook of her elbow and was giving the infant an unbridled, beaming smile.

”Hey! Stop trying to turn my daughter against me.”

“Connor don’t worry, you’re going to be an amazing dad and she is going to love you so, so much. I can feel it.”

“Y/N’s right, Connor. You’re going to do great, plus I’m only joking, I promise. Aren’t I, my sweet, sweet girl?”

“She loves my daughter more than she loves me.”

“I’d normally say no and try to reassure you, but she does,”

“And that’s not a bad thing.”

“Yeah, exactly. I love you, Connor.”

“I love you too Y/N.”

Goodbye brother

pairing: Sonny Carisi x reader (Sonnyverse) fandom: Law and Order Special Victims Unit warning: mention of death. Angsty af.

To say she was embarrassed by the who ordeal that had been going down for he last couple of months, well, that would be an understatement. (Y/N) was mortified. First she had been accused by Sonny’s boss and colleagues about leaking the article she had been writing, early, and without getting the green light from them. Then they involved her boss who fired her. And when she thought she was safe in the comfort of her own home, well, she apparently wasn’t safe there either, as Sonny started yelling at her the second he came home. The icing on top of the whole shit cake that was currently her life, was the fact that she was completely innocent. Not that anyone seemed to care about that.

«I didn’t leak it Sonny! I’m telling the truth! Someone hacked my work laptop and sent it from there!» she had pleaded with her husband. But when he wouldn’t listen she shook her head, tears already running down her cheek. «When you decide to listen to me, I’ll be at my parents house, with the kids!» she spat, running to their shared room to pack her things. The kids already had a lot of clothes at her parent’s house, so she only needed to get things for her self.

«Doll!» he tried. «Save it Dominick! I don’t want to hear it», she said, glaring at him before storming out the house. (Y/N) thanked her lucky stars that the kids were already with her parents. The worst thing she and Sonny could do was to fight in front of the kids.

That was a couple of months ago. She still hadn’t been told she was right all along. And she was still ignoring Sonny. The truth was, she wanted to make up with him so bad, mostly for the kids who were crying most nights asking for him. But they were both hotheads, so unless Sonny came to his senses and started apologizing for how crappy he had treated her, she didn’t want to hear it.

(Y/N) was in the middle of writing a new chapter for her book when she got a call from her sister-in-law.

«Hello? Nina? Hey! Calm down, please, and tell me what happened.» Nina was talking about a mile a minute, and it was getting hard for (Y/N) to understand what she was saying. «Oh my God! When?! Just now? Hey, shh. Tell the others I’m on my way!» (Y/N)’s brother, Tony, was a fire fighter with firehouse 61 in Chicago. And according to his wife, Nina, he had been severely injured on the job.

She couldn’t really say she played favorites when it came to her brothers, she loved them all equally. Not to mention three of their brothers, Ed, Val and Leo, also worked in the emergency service industry in Chicago. Ed being in intelligence for the Chicago PD, Val worked as an EMT for firehouse 61 and Leo worked at Chicago Med as a trauma surgeon. Being a worried sister came with it. Especially with Ed, Val and Tony who were on the front line every day.

(Y/N) bolted through the doors of the Emergency room at Med as soon as she got there. «Casey! Where is he?!» she called out, locking eyes with Tony’s lieutenant, Matt Casey. «(Y/N)! Oh my God! Thank God you’re here!» he said, hugging her. «They took him into surgery a couple of hours ago. He’s in recovery now, but still under», Casey added, helping her sit down. «Where’s Nina?» she asked, looking for her sister-in-law. «With your brothers, they’re at Tony’s place», he explained. Nodding her head at that, she leant back in her seat, taking a deep breath.

«What the heck happened out there?» she asked no one in particular. «He tried to get a mother and son out of the building and a beam fell down and trapped him under it. We almost didn’t get to him in time», Otis said, biting his lip as he sat opposite her. «But you did get to him. Thank you.» She felt tears slip down her cheeks as she stood up and hugged Otis.

Hours went by until Dr. Halstead came out, looking at everyone. «Where’s his family?» he asked, before spotting (Y/N), Nina, Ed, Val and Leo. «Come with me please», he said. «Casey can you please call my parents for us?» (Y/N) said, expecting the worst by the way Will was standing.

She was right to think the worst. Dr. Halstead explained that the damage was too severe, he had been in there too long, and the beam had hit just right, meaning it was no saving him. Biting her lip, (Y/N) stood back as her bothers and her sister-in-law hugged and cried. She didn’t know what do do, all she really could do was pray that this was all a joke, a sick dream, and that she would wake up and Tony would be there, awake and smiling at her as he told her one of his weird jokes. But she knew that wasn’t the case, he was gone, and he wasn’t coming back. Tony was just laying there, machines beeping around him. If only he had taken the day off like he had said he was going to do, according to Nina. But there was never anyone who could tell Tony not to work, he was stubborn as a mule and loyal to a fault.

«I need someone to sign off on the papers if we should turn of the machines or not», Dr. Manning chimed in, standing next to Dr. Halstead. «Can we wait until our parents get here?» Leo asked his colleague. «Yeah sure», the brunette girl said, nodding before she and Halstead left.

The five of them sat there, just watching Tony for what felt like hours, until (Y/N) couldn’t take the silence anymore and got up, going out to the waiting room.

«(Y/N), how’s Tony?» Casey asked, approaching her as the other fire fighters looked up or got out of their seats. «He—he’s not gonna make it. We’re just waiting for our parents and our other brother to get here before we sign the papers», she explained, wiping some tears away. «I’m so sorry to hear that (Y/N). If there’s anything we can do, you just let us know okay?» she nodded at that, giving Casey a hug.

(Y/N) decided to stay in the waiting room with the firefighters, just so she could be the first person her parents and Sergio saw when then got there.

She had stood so motionless that she almost didn’t feel the arms wrapping around her waist until she heard a soft murmur, «Shhh doll, it’s okay.» Sonny was the first and the last person she wanted to see right now. But feeling a moment of weakness, she leant into her husbands chest.

The moment ended quickly though as soon as she saw her parents rush in. «Ma! Dad! Ser!» she called out, running over to them, embracing them all in hugs. «How is he?» her mother asked, looking at her. «He’s not gonna make it ma. I’m sorry», (Y/N) said, looking at the ground as if she was the culprit behind the accident. «Oh god!» Mrs. (Y/L/N) exclaimed, falling into her daughter’s embrace. «I’m so sorry ma», (Y/N) whispered, hugging her mother.

They walked together into the room, leaving Sonny behind, wishing he could take his wife in his arms again and kiss her, to tell her it would be okay in the end. But seeing she wasn’t wearing her wedding ring, he figured she was moving on. Gina had told him about this divorce lawyer friend she had who had gotten (Y/N) the papers. He knew it was coming, he just hoped she would change her mind and come back to him.

Leo had come out a while after the arrival of their parents and brother. Every firefighter in the room stood up and looked at him. He looked so tired, having been here since the start of his shift the evening before. «Doc?» Chief Boden asked, looking at Leo. «He’s at peace now», was all Leo said, before leaving.

«Leo! Hold up!» Sonny called out, running over to his brother-in-law. «What is it Detective Carisi?» he asked, looking back at Sonny. «How’s (Y/N)?» Sonny asked. «Do you mean after what happened with Tony? Or after you decided to call her a liar and get her fired from her dream job and almost arrested?» Leo knew all about how Sonny broke her heart, all her brothers knew. «I—I should have never done it. I made a huge mistake, and I beat myself up for hurting her, every day. I don’t know what to do. She’s my dream girl and I ruined that», Sonny tried so hard to not break down and cry, it was the last thing (Y/N) and her family needed. «You should have thought of that before then!» Leo stated, turning to leave Sonny behind.

Later that evening at Nina and Tony’s place, (Y/N) called her mother-in-law. She wanted to say goodnight to the kids. «(Y/N). How are you holding up dear?» Mrs. Carisi asked, looking at her daughter-in-law. «I could be better. Are the kids still awake?» she asked in return. «Yeah hold on. Dom can you get the kids in here please?» Mrs. Carisi asked her husband.

A minute later the kids were in the room in front of the phone. «Mommy! We miss you!» Giovanni and Matteo said in unison. «I miss you kiddos too! Are you being good to nonna and nonno?» at this the boys and Angelina nodded their heads.

«Is daddy there too?» Dominick asked, looking at his mother. «No. Sorry baby», (Y/N) said, giving the kids a sympathetic look. She knew the kids were missing their father, and she couldn’t lie, she missed Sonny too. Having seen him at the hospital earlier had really made her feel better.

After the kids said their goodnights and I love yous, Mrs. Carisi came back in frame. «I know you don’t want to hear it (Y/N), and I was so mad at him when I heard what happened. But have you thought about talking to him? He’s not himself anymore, keeps asking about you and the kids in case I had heard something. I heard something about his attitude towards his colleagues have gotten shorter and he snaps easily», she explained. It broke (Y/N)’s heart to hear how Sonny had changed after the separation. After talking to the divorce lawyer Gina had recommended, she often though about going to Sonny and taking him back, but she couldn’t give up. He had broken her trust, that couldn’t be forgiven that easily.

She missed him like crazy though, and she knew it wouldn’t go away. «Maybe I can talk to him tomorrow?» she murmured, looking from her mother-in-law to the table. «You love him still, don’t you sweetie?» (Y/N) nodded at this, tears slipping down her cheeks before she could stop them, «Yeah, like crazy. But he hurt me, how do I forgive him for that?» she asked, biting down on her lip. «You don’t. But it helps talking it out. That way you can both go from there and hopefully make your way back together. You and Sonny were made for each other sweetie, we saw it long before you both did. Don’t let something so good go to waste dear», Mrs. Carisi said, giving her daughter-in-law a warm smile.

(Y/N) finished her video chat quickly after that, saying she was exhausted, but really, she needed time to think about what her mother-in-law had said. On one hand she wanted to run to where Sonny was staying, hug him and tell him she loved him and she wanted it again. But then in the back of her head she would tell herself that he didn’t deserve to be taken back, and well, that voice was usually the loudest voice.

She finally set for a somewhat healthy medium when she picked up the phone and dialed his number. (Y/N) just about threw her phone at the wall when he picked up. «Doll?» he asked, his voice sounding raw, almost as if he had been crying. She wanted nothing more in that moment than to hug him, she always hated it when he cried, she just didn’t want him to be hurt. «Hey Sonny», she said, and it was the first time in a long time she had said his name, and been happy when she said it. «Are you okay?» he asked, not quite believing that she would call him. «Can we talk? Tomorrow? Over breakfast, my treat», she asked in return. «I’d love that. But please, let me pay.» he offered. «Okay. See you tomorrow», she said. There was a short moment of silence before she added «I love you Sonny.» It was so silent after that, that (Y/N) thought he had passed out, until he replied just as softly as she had with «I love you too doll. Always.»

Chicago Med Review 5x01 “Never Going Back To Normal”

So, I guess I’m back on my bullsh*t. I can’t help it. These last two episodes are worthy of a review.

So, after a summer hiatus we got the answers to our burning questions: did Ava have something to do with Cornelius’s death?

What is the fate of Natalie and Will after that car crash on the roof?

Does Maggie have cancer?

and

Is April pregnant?

Let’s start from the bottom up.

April and Ethan slowly made their way back to each other during season 4. After she declared that she was with the shits, they smashed on the couch, and 24 hrs later she was “late.” I think we all knew it would be negative, but I do think it’s odd that they wrote her saying “I’m never late.” I’m not sure if this was just chatter or a false negative but since the subject was broached it had Ethan wondering “what if?” I think it’s fair to say that not only are these two back together but are also getting serious. They walked away with THE most uplifting story for themselves and the child they were treating. Anyway up to this point I’d always pegged April as the type who’d want to have kids and marriage considering the importance of family and how soft she is with everyone but I’m not so sure anymore. Her hesitation and remark about wanting kids much farther in the future reminded me that it took April weeks if not months to say yes to Tate’s proposal, and her shock at being pregnant lasted a lot longer than comfortable. I think April holds these things dear, but not necessarily for herself. We’ll see.

Onto Maggie’s story. Another easy guess. I think we all knew she had cancer, the question was what kind and how bad? Sadly, so many of us have been touched by cancer; it’s affected our friends, loved ones, co-workers, and there are probably some survivors in this fandom. So when I heard metastatic immediately I was like; damn. I, for one, am all for keeping your business your own, but Maggie’s decision is borderline delusional. I know we all know it’s about to get a LOT worse.

The Manstead car wreck. Okay, I have been in several car wrecks; shitty luck, bad tires, dangerous weather, I’ve had it happen; trees, fences, the HIGHWAY, I’ve been in it. So this wreck was a bit...much. My sister FLEW through the windshield of a vehicle and not only lived but had no issues with memory, and her cut wasn’t gushing like a Squeeze-It. I hated this story from the moment it began. It had massive plot holes and has been melodramatic AF. But I think what I hate the most is the inability to let the story be about Will. It continues to center Natalie when she’s just been adjacent. This show has a super weird way of writing life-changing events which happen to male characters but then somehow manages to leave the women holding the bag. Like damn, how’d we get here?

Ethan’s family drama left April caring for a newborn and his sister.

Daniel’s shooting left Sarah with major PTSD.

Will’s traumatic involvement with the mafia left Natalie in a mini-coma.

I’m not saying the men never have consequences but the lasting effects are transferred to the women closest to them.

Anyway, Will carries Natalie like Captain-Save-a-hoe to the ED and even tries to work on her before the night-shift Dr. Marcel hello daddy has to push him aside. I almost died when he said “You’re her boyfriend or whatever” it’s like Dominic Rains knows our pain. Anyway, med student Elsa tries to help Will but is barked at several times. I was happy to see her again but I’m not going to pretend I didn’t see the 180 in her personality. Elsa can seem mouesy but let’s be real; that is a boss bitch, who all last season was on top of her shit and not giving a good gotdamn about anybody’s emotional state; only the job at hand. She knew what she wanted and was balancing dual majors and nailing it too. But something shifted and now she’s giving a damn about Will and being one of the only three people in this entire show that recognizes his trauma. I was quietly whispering...please god no, too. Please Med don’t ruin this character and make her lose her gotdamn mind over some dick.

Sleeping Beauty finally awakes but has some short-term memory problems. Something her skeevy boyfriend Phillip is ready to exploit when he shimmies a ring on her finger. Okay, I’m going to need you give me your nuanced ears and eyes when I begin this next part because I don’t want it to sound too victim-blamey...but...Natalie brought this situation on herself. I don’t think it was wrong of her to try and be supportive of Phillip but how the hell didn’t the warning flags go flying when he began being intimate with her so soon after his wife died? The alarms should be blaring now with a ring on her finger considering she hasn’t forgotten the long timeline...it’s just. I don’t care. It makes her look trife AF. But mostly it makes her look naive.

I do think the knowledge Dr. Marcel has about the ring only being on her finger AFTER her initial examination is a little bomb they’ll wait to drop later in the season. I just hope it’s Natalie who finds out and not Will. Natalie needs to save herself.

Finally, let’s talk about that story!

The direction this story took was one I played around with in a fic. The idea of Ava being an obsessive, manipulative, dangerous psycho has always seem fitting to me. I know a lot of people are upset and horrified but I think it made perfect sense. My only critique was the empty feeling of not getting a background check on her. Did Latham call her next of kin? Who were they? Who was she? The mystery of Ava will always be the most bitter pill for me swallow.

Med was manipulating the viewers and the subjects of the story so we were all left with a sense of confusion. None of it made sense if you only view Ava through one lens, if you could see her through both it was executed in a way that Med has never had the audacity to try and do, and I got to give it to them cause damn it was good. They really had us questioning everything up to her final moments. Was Connor losing it like his mother or was Ava as scheming as he thought? I think that her death was a good reason to leave Med.

He left Chicago as quickly as he could as kid to get away from his mother’s tragic suicide only to return and have another tragic suicide be the reason for his departure. And damn, it was abrupt. Like maybe one more episode where Connor finishes his last surgery cause anyone scheduled with him got left hanging! He said goodbye to the two people who gave him a job and that was the last we ever saw of him. I’m not nearly as broken up about this as a big chunk of the fandom seems to be. I really feel like Connor’s story was told. Being the most developed one; can be suicide for a character, especially in a show that has Entmoot syndrome when it comes to personal information about its characters.

Personally I’m hoping the show becomes like the rest of One Chicago, who had other polarizing characters leave. It allowed the quality to spread and viewers finally got more from the others.

Either way, after this episode, nothing is going to be “normal” again.

Ships: How they happen and Headcanons PART 1

Someone requested this, so here is the rundown of my ideal scenarios for each of the ships that I ship. It’s long and detailed so I’m sorry if you’re on mobile. For the rest of you, it’s under the cut. Includes NSFW head canons. This got out of hand so I’m going to split this post up.

So my ideal scenario for Sarah regardless of who she ends up with is that she becomes incredibly confident in her abilities as a psychiatrist and chooses to incorporate those with her training in the ED and becomes the best young doctor in whichever field she chooses after her residency (Psych or Emergency). While doing this she opens up a center for homeless youths that has guards and provides psychiatric help with PTSD or depression or drug addiction or anything else they might need. She becomes of driving force in Chicago in the fight for the homeless, youth and veterans especially. Sarah also uses her money and the connections to money she has from Connecticut and her Ivy League days to help open the many centers all around Chicago. She also creates a service dog program at Gaffney where they take in shelter dogs and train them.

So now that we have her life plotted out, let’s look at how I envision each of my ships.

Reethan

Sarah dates Noah for like a maximum of 4 months, in this time she realizes she was just desperate for someone since Joey seemed to move on so fast, and she’s always been weak for people who are nice to her and compliment her. They have chemistry for the first like month, but it boils down to Noah not being mature enough for her and so they break up. BUT during the few months they were together, Wreckton spent a lot of time with Chexton. Sarah and Ethan bond over these new experiences of dating the Sextons and probably one or two awkward trips to church. Because while April and Noah are religious the other two definitely are not and end up getting to know one another even better outside of work. The four hanging out becomes such a tradition, that the first week after they break up, Ethan stops by to try and cheer her up. The break up is awkward in the ED for the first few months, but Ethan always tries to make Reese feel welcome again when he sees her. For the next year Sarah begins falling for Ethan, but remains super friendly with him and April and pushes those feelings down because they’re happy together and that’s what matters. Eventually April and Ethan break up, they have been shaky for a while but he proposes, she says yes, but realizes it’s not best for the both of them and cancels the wedding. Sarah is there for Ethan when things get awkward for him in the ED and their friendship grows stronger.

Then Ethan gets called up from the reserves to help train medics over seas. He keeps this a secret from everyone besides Sharon, up until the day before he leaves. After a patient dies in the ED he loses it, and walks up to the roof, Sarah finds him and he finally tells her that he’ll be gone for at least 3 months if not more. He then asks if she’d be willing to take care of his bird, and if she’d mind coming over later so he could show her how to take care of it. She does and one thing leads to another and there are so many emotions that the end up having sex. Sarah wishes him good luck, but is pretty much having a mental freak out over the fact that she’s had her first one night stand with this guy she’s practically in love with. Ethan just has so many things on his plate that he doesn’t really think about until later. So basically Sarah tries to work this through in her mind while working and taking care of this bird. They kind of send messages back and forth but they never talk about that night. Ethan thinks that he’ll have to extend his time over seas and he talks to Sarah about watching his bird for longer. Then surprise he doesn’t and he comes home early and finds her like passed out on his couch with his bird flying around. She wakes up, they don’t talk about it still, and have sex again. They start dating in secret because Ethan’s an attending and Sarah’s still a resident even if they are in totally different departments. It eventually comes out and everyone’s willing to turn a blind eye if this is the last damn romance in this ED.

Head canon round

What they fight about

Sarah trying to help with his process of dealing with trauma and his PTSD and him getting annoyed about it. And possibly frustrations over both of their simultaneous difficulties with commitment at the different levels. Later on possibly children. OH, and Sarah’s willingness to sacrifice her safety for the kids she helps on the streets. Because you know the mob does not like her trying to help their sex slaves out of slavery.

Holidays

In my mind they both choose to work holidays, and have for a really long time. The two of them probably have the least familial connections out of all the doctors on Chicago Med so they kind of take the shifts no one else wants so the others can have time with their families and kids. So the tradition they started long before they ever get together is having breakfast together the morning after on their way home from work.

Families

Sarah hasn’t seen her mom really since she left for Chicago, and her dad died while she was a teenager so she is really not close with her family. Parents were each only children and her grandparents have passed on so she’s made Chicago her home, and the staff her family. Dr. Charles being her unintentional substitution of a father, and Maggie her mom. They both approve of Choi. Ethan isn’t very close with his family, but they are on more of speaking terms. His parents are still alive, if unattached to what’s happening with his life. He has a brother and sister who he isn’t very close with. So Ava and Connor start having sex to blow off tension and try and channel the competitive edge that they have towards each other into something that’s more relaxing for them. Ava is still mean to anyone not an attending and Sarah, after frankly just a shitty day like loses it and snaps at her in front of Connor after a comment she makes after a surgery.There’s probably some pent up resentment towards Zanetti and she’s just sick of rude surgeons. So Sarah storms off after that, but she’s now permanently on Ava’s radar. Her comments make her soften the way she approaches most of the doctors at Med, and she starts talking more to Sarah and inviting her out to drinks and to hang out with Connor and her after work. The more they hang out with one another the closer they all get, and they kind of become this trio who is almost always seen with each other. Then Ava kind of introduces the idea to Connor of bringing Sarah in, and he’s intrigued by it, but he thinks that she’s completely dreaming because Sarah’s just so conventional and safe and would never do that kind of thing. Meanwhile Sarah is developing this crush on both Ava and Connor because they’re just so different than Noah was, and she’s just internalizing it and keeps telling herself she’ll deal with it later.

The whole time people are getting more and more suspicious of Connor and Ava, and eventually Goodwin catches wind of it and has to figure out how to deal with it without jeopardizing her two future cardiac surgeon’s careers. If anyone found out they were sleeping together, it would open up the hospital to law suits. Sharon asks Sarah to give the warning so it doesn’t go on any kind of professional record and because she’s close to them. Sarah, this whole time, didn’t really pick up on them sleeping together. And she’s just mortified and also beating herself up because why would they like her, and she just gives them this really like terse warning about sleeping together and kind of completely pulls away from them. Ava and Connor both ask for her to talk to them and she rebuffs them for a week or so. Then Ava tells her they’re coming over whether she likes it or not and Sarah actually lets them in. Finally Ava extends the idea of the three of them being together to Sarah, who immediately thinks they’re just weirdly trying to pity her or something. Eventually they kind of coax her out of her shell and the three kind of establish what they are tentatively and they start dating. And whenever Goodwin brings up something about Ava and Connor dating, they say that Ava’s the one who’s dating Dr. Reese.

What they fight about

Connor and Ava are still competing for the spot of the Cardio attending so work can tend to bleed over into their relationship. They all also work very hectic schedules and that causes mainly frustration over just not getting to see each other very often or equally. Connor’s daddy issues, Ava’s attitude and treatment of others, and Sarah’s internalizing of her thoughts and feelings of being the third wheel.

Food

The three of them loving going out to dinner. It’s always been Sarah’s favorite kind of date, and she has tried an absurd amount of restaurants from all over the city out, so she’s like an expert at places she’d know they’d love or hate. She’s also a vegetarian, which Ava found hilarious, and so completely fitting of her the first time they all got food. (”What?” “You’re just such a stereotype.” “What does that mean?”) The moment that Sarah kind of fell in love with Ava a little more was when she called Sarah at work because she wanted to get her some sort of veggie burgers she liked, so Sarah had something to eat at her house. Connor’s the best cook out of them all, with Ava coming in second, and Sarah being proficient at the things she was good at, and horrible at anything else. Her house mainly consists of frozen faux-meat in her freezer, frozen dinners and veggies, crackers and bread, and 8 jars of various nut butters. Sometimes eggs, but she only buys those 6 egg cartons because she never uses a whole dozen. Connor and Ava both have extensive bars in their apartments filled with excellent whiskeys and gins. Both of which turn Sarah’s stomach, so they start buying white rum, vodka and wine to keep at their houses for her.

Families

Ava’s family is entirely normal, especially put in perspective with the other two. Her parent’s had high expectations but she’s met all of them and so it’s never been much of a problem in her mind. Sarah thinks that she’s so critical of others because of how critical her parents were to her but Ava doesn’t see it. Connor’s got good ol’ Cornelius Rhodes who creates all the same issues he did in the show, and Sarah has all the issues she had that I mentioned previously. But Claire, once she got over the initial news, loves both Ava and Sarah and the three girls get dinner alone when they can.

Sleep/NSFW

Sarah almost always sleeps in the middle. It’s mostly out of function because she can never seem to get warm, but also because Ava kind of worries about her feeling left out. The facts that she isn’t in cardio and usually is the one with the most different of schedules, and that she was brought in last all make Ava and Connor worry about her. They both also selfishly like being the big spoon and cuddling around her. Sarah’s also the heaviest sleeper of them all and can sleep through both sides shifting and getting up in the night.

The two of them are weirdly Connor’s dream girl separated. Ava’s this sexy hot head who challenges him in work and in their relationship, and he just lives off it. Sarah is all the gentleness and cooling that’s opposite of Ava, she just wants someone who is kind of gentle and domestic. She adds like this softness to both his and Ava’s personalities and they can turn off the competition when she’s around. She tempers both of them where they can have this actually thriving relationship. So when it’s just Connor and Ava, the sex is faster and filled with this needy, brutal energy; just trying to fuck out the problems they refuse to resolve with words. The direct competition is hard on them and when they’re alone it’s always hovering over them with this foreboding dark cloud. If they don’t think about it, they don’t need to address it. Sarah and Ava is a lot more playful. Ava can pull a smile out of Sarah like her life depended on it, and she’s just so enamored with Sarah and her shyness and the she’s like almost blind to how attracted the two of them are to her. She’s usually the one that has Sarah pressed up against the elevator door on their way home. Sarah and Connor are very sweet. He likes that he can pull out his most romantic moves and she really appreciates them. Not that Ava wouldn’t, but Sarah is a romantic nerd at heart and likes the more traditional date nights. They’re the two that are most likely to have slow dances in the living room and sweet sex in the bedroom. When the three of them can actually manage all being together when they aren’t too tired or have to work at a stupid early time, there’s like this thrum between all of them. An excitement and playfulness that normally isn’t there, and all of them get a little handsier than usual. Sarah’s leaning into Connor’s chest and he’s got his arms around both their waists. Ava’s playing with Sarah’s hair as they wait for their meals to come out, and Connor’s just making moon eyes across from them. They’re all just so careful to like memorize and take in every detail when they’re all together.

Pets/Living Together

They don’t have any pets. It’s just very unreasonable with their schedules and the life styles they like to keep of going out for drinks and dinner until late. Sarah loves animals though, so it’s not entirely off the table, just until Sarah’s not a resident anymore. They don’t live with each other, but none of them ever really sleep at their own place most of the time. Connor’s apartment gets the most use because it’s closest to the night life of the city and it has the biggest bed and the nicest views. It also has indoor parking for the cold Chicago winters which Sarah loves. Sarah’s house is cozy and nice and usually they’ll sleep there when she has a big day ahead of her. She’s a creature of habit and only in this relationship has she been ok staying over at her significant others’s house. And while her bed’s not as big, it is the most comfortable and so the just sleep a little closer. They spend the least amount of time at Ava’s. She wasn’t even really unpacked until the three started seriously dating. Then Sarah told her it was very sad that she had no life here and they spent the whole day making her house more homey. Sarah suggested getting her a fish to liven it up, but was shot down by both surgeons out of fear for it dying when they weren’t there.

Reestead

So this one is honestly a short term ship at best, but still sweet.

So after Sarah breaks up with Noah she decides to take a break from any kind of romance and starts looking for ways to make more of a difference in the world. She begins volunteering at different community centers and youth organizations to kind of consume all the time she doesn’t spend at the hospital. Sarah, once again, becomes attached to a kid she meets at the community center she volunteers at and is really torn up when she witnesses a drive by that leaves him in a wheelchair. She’s interviewed on scene by one of the beat cops, but she sees Kim and Jay across the way and makes a mental note to check up on the progress. Soon she actually goes to 21 and asks Jay what happened and if there’s anything she can do. She knows all the kids there and is familiar with the faces and so she actually plays a major part in helping solve the case. Jay gives her a ride back to the hospital so the two of them can talk to the kid who was shot, and survived. Jay kind of sees this really warm and confident and vibrant side to Sarah that he never has when he’s talked to her before. He makes his own mental note, and carries on with the case. They’re all grateful she helped them out in the case and Jay tells Sarah she can call him if she ever needs anything. They see each other at Molly’s and talk a bit, but nothing actually happens for months.

He get’s a call at like midnight 4 months from the shooting and it’s Sarah whose voice sounds shaky like she’s about to cry, and so he rushes down to the hospital where Sarah is pacing outside a door in the ED. He thinks she’s crying but her face is pure fury (she’s an angry crier, which only makes her more angry when someone points it out). Someone assaulted one of the girls she works with at the youth center and the officer who brought her in made this horrible crack about her being a sex worker and asking for it. Sarah more or less kicked him out of the hospital, but still wanted the girl to be able to file a report with someone. And she didn’t know who to call but him. And so once again they work on this case and Sarah just becomes so impassioned when she sees these kids hurt and he’d never think anyone would say this, but Sarah Reese looks ferocious, like she’s ready to take on the world for them. They get closer after this and eventually Jay invites her to a hockey game. To which she knows none of the rules, but really enjoys spending time with him and has a great night. Sarah loves that he’s so dedicated to helping people, and that he’s past that shit head 20 something thing that her exes both had. He’s mature and respects her dedication to her volunteering. Jay appreciates how different she is from Erin. She’s young and unjaded and she thinks she can change the world. It’s refreshing and things heat up between the two broken hearts.

They date casually, neither of them have a ton of time for romance or a relationship, but it’s definitely more than a one night stand/booty call situation because Sarah doesn’t know how to not do commitment. In the end they just kind of fizzle out. It’s a lot of work and neither one of them are the best at opening up when they aren’t with the person during the day. They end on really great terms and Sarah is always allowed to call his number at any time if she needs help, or more likely, one of her kids needs help. And she’s always there to check up on him, to stop him from completely running himself ragged. He’s the one who introduces her to the vet groups, and where she get’s really impassioned to help soldiers on the streets.

What they fight about

Sarah putting herself in harms way for these kids. This continues on after their break up, too. She’s so dedicated to being that person for them because most don’t have anyone else, that she will take dangerous risks. Sarah’s also the daughter of a defense attorney and so I can see her cringing and being shocked at some of the things she hears/sees while helping 21 out.

Dates

They had a really tough time finding a good balance between the two of them. They have just totally different interests when it comes to dates, so the first month it just alternated between some sports game (which Sarah didn’t get), a museum (which kind of bored Jay), Molly’s (which barely counted as a date) and Netflix and Chilling. They started doing more outdoors stuff and found, although Sarah hates being cold, that it was the best common ground.

Families

Sarah’s mom is never really informed about Sarah dating a cop. They dated for like 6 months, and Sarah’s rule is only after a year she tells her mom. Will thinks it’s incredibly weird at first, and keeps asking Jay why he had to pick the youngest coworker of his to date, but he’s fairly supportive.

Sleeping/NSFW

Once and only once did Sarah ever sleep over at Jay’s. She ran into Will in Jay’s shirt and nothing else and was so mortified that she wouldn’t look at him for the next week. They spend a lot of time at Sarah’s and she always keeps his favorite beer in stock because he usually comes over after all the stores around her place close. On those late nights they usually don’t make it past her couch. It’s beer and fast undressing, and Stranger Things afterwards.
