The Chemical Worker's Song (Process Man) by Great Big Sea is an Avatar of the Corruption.
youtube
A process man am I and I’m telling you no lie,
I work and breath among the fumes that trail across the sky.
There’s thunder all around me and a poison in the air,
There’s a lousy smell that smacks o’ hell and dust all in me hair.

@dee-the-red-witch and @rustbeltjessie both tagged me for a 5 favorite songs game recently and unfortunately this is a fraught effort bc my 5 favorite songs don't even remain consistent across listening to 5 songs HOWEVER I will respond with the first 5 songs I thought of (which will probably be some blend of associations and recent listening!)
Nemesis, by Shriekback [youtube]
Only Anarchists Are Pretty, by World/Inferno Friendship Society [youtube]
This Land, by Gary Clark Jr. [youtube]
100% (110% Fucked Remix), by Angelspit (Combichrist remix) [youtube]
The Chemical Worker's Song (Process Man), by Great Big Sea (covering Ron Angel) [youtube]
Shoutout to Welcome Me (Indigo Girls), Shine On (Apoptygma Berzerk covering House of Love), and No Diggity (Blackstreet) which I also thought of, but are technically more than 5.
I guess I'm supposed to tag people now? I pick.... @firstruleofmethclub @belovedgoofball @taran-wanderer @quannaix @vinegartree @tromboneralert @wildhaunt @crypticcripple and @amerillo342

Me naming d&d characters: This guy's name is Merle Fettler, his first name comes from Merle Travis, the man who wrote the song Sixteen Tons (not to be confused with Ernie Ford, the man who sang it), and his last name comes from the band The Fettlers, lead by Ron Angel, who composed The Chemical Worker's Song, also known as Process Man
Also me making d&d characters: This is my artificer, Jerry Riggs

Sometimes I listen to a song and the person just does not have the right voice for it, and usually it's because it's too pretty. It happens most often with working songs, though. I'm sorry but if you have a pretty voice you should not be singing the chemical workers song. The line "well a process man am I, and I'm telling you no lie" sounds like a goddamn lie outta some of these mouths.

Tagged by @mrbexwrites, thank you!!
Leaving this as a fully open tag, remember to tag me if you jump in! :D
Rules: Pick an OC and post a song you relate to them, an image that represents them in some way (aesthetic, picrew, art, etc), and a quote of dialogue or narration from them. Totally feel free to expand and explain!
Dr. Amelia Roch from my WIP Copper Frames!
She's an academic and a general practitioner, but for some reason when I was making the playlist to listen to when I wrote the first draft, I felt that The Chemical Worker's Song - Process Man by Great Big Sea really fit what she would go through in my book and the overall aesthetic of the world.
(I could not for the life of me upload the original image for some reason, so please accept this worse screencap of it from unsplash.)
Tumblr media
This image is just a lil foreshadowing for a later scene in the book ;)
Narration (btw, as will all of my MCs so far, she is an ADHD-haver lol):
Amelia might not be the one to figure out a cure, but she was going to contribute as much as she could, even if that contribution was simply caring for their patients. It was true, she was an accomplished microbiologist. Was. It had been almost a decade since she had made any real breakthroughs when she decided to quit and become a physician. That was when she met Dr. Petro Shvets, her professor in medical school. Amelia became one of his top students, and after she graduated, they stayed in touch. It was only since she had opened her practice that she stopped catching up with him.

Battle of the Fear Bands B2R2: The Corruption
The Chemical Worker's Song:
“Half Corruption Half Buried. A song about doing a job that makes you sicker and sicker as you work. And yet… you need the cash, right?”
youtube
Stalker's Tango:
"toxic love is very corruptiony"
youtube
Lyrics below the line!
The Chemical Worker's Song:
And it's go boys, go They'll time your every breath And every day you're in this place You're two days nearer death But you go Well, a Process Man am I and I'm tellin' you no lie I work and breathe among the fumes that trail across the sky There's thunder all around me and there's poison in the air There's a lousy smell that smacks of hell and dust all in me hair And it's go boys, go They'll time your every breath And every day you're in this place You're two days nearer death But you go Well, I've worked among the spinners, and I breathe the oily smoke I've shovelled up the gypsum and it nigh on makes you choke I've stood knee deep in cyanide, got sick with a caustic burn Been workin' rough, I've seen enough to make your stomach turn And it's go boys, go They'll time your every breath And every day you're in this place You're two days nearer death But you go There's overtime and bonus opportunities galore The young men like their money and they all come back for more But soon you're knockin' on and you look older than you should For every bob made on the job, you pay with flesh and blood And it's go boys, go They'll time your every breath And every day you're in this place You're two days nearer death But you go Well, a Process Man am I and I'm tellin' you no lie I work and breathe among the fumes that trail across the sky There's thunder all around me and there's poison in the air There's a lousy smell that smacks of hell and dust all in me hair And it's go boys, go They'll time your every breath And every day you're in this place You're two days nearer death And it's go boys, go They'll time your every breath And every day you're in this place You're two days nearer death But you go
The Stalker's Tango:
I know, I know, I know this situation's strange It takes a little getting, a little getting used to Love me, love me, love me, love me Love me, love me, love me, love me Love me, love me, love me, love me more Than you possibly can It's not that complicated, no matter what they say You'll never meet another me It's not that difficult to get your head around You'll never meet another me You'll never-never-ever-never ever meet another me I know, I know, I know I'm always in your place But don't you see, my dear? I am your Doppelgänger Have your faith so Love me, love me, love me, love me Love me, love me, love me, love me Love me, love me, love me, love me more Than you possibly can It's not that complicated, no matter what they say You'll never meet another me It's not that difficult to get your head around You'll never meet another me You'll never-never-never-ever-ever meet another me Ey-ey-ah Bada-bam-bam-bam-bam Bada-bam-bam-bam-bam Bada-ba-ah Bam-bam-bam-bam Bada-bam-bam-bam-bam Bada-bam-bam-bam-bam Bada-ba It's not that complicated, no matter what they say I'll never meet another you It's not that difficult to get my head around I'll never meet another you

66!!
Okay. Well. I feel like I owe you harry potter, BUT you did give me 66. So I'm feeling... Order 66 vibes....
And it's go boys, go They'll time your every breath And every day you're in this place You're two days nearer death
The fumes of Mustafar would have killed the average man, but neither fumes nor the heat were the thing Anakin feared as he trekked across the lava fields between the black obsidian palace and the landing shuttle.
It was the ghosts.
It wasn't Padmé's cry of anguish nor Obi Wan's desperate pleas that haunted Anakin. It wasn't regret.
It was the moment the light had changed in their eyes, when heartbreak had turned to acceptance.
Their pale eyes seemed to wink at him, neither judging nor accusing. Simply disappointed.
With a heavier heart and heavier limbs, Vader boarded the shuttle.
But you go --The Chemical Worker's Song - Process Man, Great Big Sea

Spotify Wrapped Time!
Would you like to share your 1, 6, 25 and 99?
I very much would!
#1: The Barnyards of Delgaty - Noel McLoughlin
Well, I can drink and not be drunk And I can fight and not be slain I can lie wi' another man's wife And aye be welcome to my ain...
It's so goddamn catchy. I think there was a day I literally listened to it on a loop for the entire eight hours I was at work.
My #1 song in 2019 was A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square - Rosemary Clooney
My #1 song in 2020 was Rainy Days and Mondays - The Carpenters
My #1 song in 2021 was Someone Else's Star - Bryan White
My #1 song in 2022 was Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me - Mel Carter
#6: St. Brendan's Fair Isle - The Irish Rovers
One night while the brethren were lying asleep A great dragon rose up from under the deep He thundered and lightninged and made a great din He awakened St. Brendan and all of his men The dragon came on with his mouth open wide We threw in a cross and the great dragon died We skinned him and cooked him and feasted awhile We sailed for St. Brendan's fair isle, fair isle We sailed for St. Brendan's fair isle...
I don't even know how I found this one, probably it was a recommendation for my Folk Songs playlist, but I love it.
My #6 song in 2019 was We Know the Way - Moana OST
My #6 song in 2020 was The Duck Tales Theme
My #6 song in 2021 was MOLLYMAUK - Kimber's Men
My #6 song in 2022 was The Chemical Worker's Song (Process Man) - Great Big Sea
#25: McPherson's Lament - Noel McLoughlin
Now some have come for to see me hang And some to buy my fiddle But before that I do part with her I'll break it through the middle So he took his fiddle in both his hands And broke it o'er a stone Sayin' there's no other hand shall play a peal When I am dead and gone...
I swear there are songs on this list that aren't Celtic folk songs, you just happen to be hitting a bunch of them. XD
My #25 song in 2019 was I'm On Fire - Bruce Springsteen
My #25 song in 2020 was Mairi's Wedding/The Flowers of Edinborough - Seamus Kennedy
My #25 song in 2021 was This Is Not Over Yet - Parade Original Broadway Cast
My #25 song in 2022 was Belfast Mill - Seamus Kennedy
#99: Chicken On a Raft - Pyrates!
We kissed goodbye on a midnight bus (Aye-o, chicken on a raft) She didn't cry and she didn't fuss (Aye-o, chicken on a raft) Am I the one that she loves best (Aye-o, chicken on a raft) Or just a cuckoo in another man's nest? (Aye-o, chicken on a raft) Hey, chicken on a raft on a Monday morning Oh, what a terrible sight to see Dabtoes forward and the dustman aft Sittin' there pickin' on a chicken on a raft...
This is the world's worst earworm. It is the clingiest of shanty-adjacent songs. It will never get out of your head. (I am shocked it's only 99 on the list.)
My #99 song in 2019 was It Must Be Love - Alan Jackson
My #99 song in 2020 was And Oh I Love You So - Raul Esparza and Madeline Lodge (no longer available on Spotify, sadly, so here's a YouTube link)
My #99 song in 2021 was Greenland Whale Fisheries - Peter, Paul, and Mary
My #99 song in 2022 was Seasons of the Heart - John Denver
Send me a number and I'll tell you what song it is on my Spotify Wrapped!
