'Identity' is an interesting thing, is it not? I am not a student of philosophy, neither professionally or as a hobby; I only know that it's such an interesting thing that a lot of people have written about it.

I just wonder sometimes how much of it seems to be tied up in looks, behaviour, in expressions of one kind or another. 'Just be yourself!' is such cliché advice that it makes my teeth ache with the amount of gnashing I subject them to. And yet, a lot of other, more thought out and more useful advice can be boiled down to it.

I am fascinated by Changelings in DnD, and metamorph mages in Harry Potter. They are not tied to one set of looks, expressions and behaviour, they can change all of it at the drop of a hat. You can say they are not one person, and yet they are always themselves.

I want that. I want that so much it hurts sometimes.

Are they human? I feel sometimes that they are not. Because being human means tying your identity to how you look or act, in one way or another. And if you do not, if you are constantly changing these things, and defining yourself by this changeability, is this still human?

It's what has drawn me to ballet and theatre in my youth, and to DnD and larp now that I'm somewhat healed again. My 'true' self is always someone else. I don't know how to describe it. Sortinghatchats gifted me the word 'face shifting', which means metaphorically becoming someone different in every situation while still always being myself, and I will forever be grateful for the concept.

But I cannot express how much I want this to not be metaphorical. I want to physically change how people see me, every day. My second language after my mother tongue was ballet, and I remain very much woven into the world of physicality and senses to this day. And yet I do think I have a very defined sense of who 'I' am.

Hello I am eepy but last night my brain decided I should make another galemancer, this time a half-tiefling Changeling, Cleric of Mystra, so I spent the day designing her natural form and her default disguise (seen here).

Haven't figured out her outfits yet but I managed to take some cute glasses I found on sketchfab and port them over with surprisingly not too much hassle?

And then I started looking into making a custom shape change (the screenshot you see here is a separate save I made to figure out her tiefling design, but in her actual save file she's a Changeling) so she can disguise herself as a tiefling. Currently I've got the spell showing up in the container & doing all the effects and whatnot... but her visuals aren't changing at all. I started off following Munnmo's guide on custom Tav stuff for their Ring of Metamorph mod bc I figured it's probably not that different from making a custom thing for Trips' Changelings, but it seems like the latter requires a bit more than the former.

But like I said, I'm sleepy so I'll just come back to it tomorrow.

P.S. That hair is from eeldritchblast's Frosty Hairs 2 (found on their patreon where their username is tepkunset), and the horns are from Horns of Faerun (by Aloija on Nexus Mods). I do not remember the name of the person who made the glasses off-hand but it is called "Glasses 09" and is on sketchfab. Hopefully tomorrow I'll edit this with proper links and whatnot.

Tales of Florida Gothic - The Final Chapter

An irresistible call form the swampy forest draws you from your sleep to a secret garden, deep in the woods, unseen by mortal eyes. There you meet several dark forest spirits who reveal to you your true nature: you are a changeling, having replaced a human child in the crib. An unearthly urge compels you to weave a wooden chrysalis in the woods. You crawl inside and begin to change into your adult form. You emerge on a moonless night. Ravenous hunger drives you towards the nearest small town to hunt humans.

A late afternoon stroll brings you to the local cemetery. Suddenly exhausted beyond measure, you gratefully return to your grave.

The whispers have tormented you for years, growing in frequency and volume. Just when you think you can't possibly stand them any longer, they suddenly make sense. Yourself again, you return to The Swamp. You were her herald, but no one has heeded her warning.

A powerful injection brings you back to a moment of clarity and you cease your ramblings. Restrained in a common room of an insane asylum, you look at the doctors gathered around you as one points to a map of the United States on a wall and yells at you, "For the last time, there is NO SUCH PLACE AS FLORIDA!"

And with a shock, you can see - there is no such place.

The MKs reimagined as a superhero movie

… Remember that old movie, Zoom?

Former heroes, Stan and Ford Pines convince the Government to create a team of young superheroes for them to train

The team consists of Coraline Jones, who pranks teachers and students with her realistic illusions

Wybie Lovat, an honor’s student with ferrokinesis, technikinesis

Norman Babcock, an occult enthusiast who can see and communicate with spirits. Along with this, he has the powers of a ghost

Neil Downe, a normal student who can create shields of any size to protect others and himself

Dipper and Mabel Pines, twin shapeshifters

Raz Aquato, former circus performer with telekinesis and telepathy

And finally, Lili Zanotto, a geokinetic private school student

Hearing of these kids, Stan and Ford call them into this Area-51-type base to have them practice their abilities and be ready for battle

The kids are bitter at first, being forced into situations that should really be taken care of by adults, but they eventually go with what they were called for to do

A few even discover some new powers

Coraline can manipulate the senses after making one of the scientists think they could smell smoke and making them yell “FIRE!”

Wybie discovers he has electrokinesis after an incident with an electric jet prototype

And Lili discovers that she also has pyrokinesis after getting annoyed (read, ‘angered’ by one of the power tests)

When they’ve perfected their powers, they’re sent on a few missions, mostly minor stuff like protecting dignitaries, going undercover at high class events, and stopping robbers

And best of all… Cool costumes and names!

~Note: this is relatively small, and consists of fan-theories as it were. So hopefully it doesn’t count as plagiarism but if so I will take it down~

Over time on Serina some birds have changed so much that they hardly count as birds at all. In the Linnaeic system (which has been mentioned early on in the project) I would say (at least!) two lineages are not birds.

They are the changelings and the burdles.

The somewhat official definition of birds is that they tend to fill these descriptions:

·         Feathers

·         toothless beaked jaws

·         the laying of hard-shelled eggs  

·         a high metabolic rate

·         a four-chambered heart

·         a strong yet lightweight skeleton

With the changelings, I don’t think I need to explain myself, but as for the burdles:

               They don’t have feathers, and at least some of them have a slow metabolic rate. At least one burdle, the riverine muckodile, has ‘teeth’.

To specifically lay out the class characteristics (like I did above for the birds), burdles are:

·         Featherless – thick scaly skin

·         toothless beaked jaws

·         Aquatic (though air-breathing)  

·         Mesothermic (though some are ectothermic)

·         a four-chambered heart

·         a strong yet lightweight skeleton

Class characteristics for the changelings:

*         Have a metamorphic development from larva to adulthood. In some                    clades the larva is retained as an embryo in the body, prior to being born              (placentalism).

*         Some have toothless beaked jaws

*         Small, soft-shelled eggs, of which many tend to be laid at a time

*       A wide variety of metabolic rates – some are fully ectothermic but others              are endothermic while adults

I would also consider lumberbeests a new Linnaeic class, but as they consist of only one genus, they are not marked on the chart.

Tripodichtyes (Tribbets etc) probably should be divided into a number of different classes, but I’m not prepared to do that (right now, anyway).
