part i. the dream of the golden bedroom
You woke with a startling gasp.
The bedsheets clenched tightly in your grasp; a lick of sweat travelling down your temple as you heave against the headboard. You could see the sliver of sunlight against the curtains through your closed eyes, could hear the gentle song of birds tittering outside – could feel a slow breeze snaking around your ankles and feet as they hung out of the blanket.
The dream had felt so vivid, so alive, that you swore you could still feel the biting wind against your neck and the sea in your hair. You counted your breathing as it tumbled off your tongue, one… two…
You were quite often purged with such coloured dreams, so waking with a start was not too uncommon a feeling, but there was something so gripping about this one that it had the room spinning beneath your eyelids as you grounded yourself.
Water.
Water was the best call for your dried throat, as it felt as though you had been screaming and it was raw and punished. The quilt caught on the mattress as you kicked it off your feet, placing them on the ground and hauling your body up and off the bed. The wooden grit of the floorboards rubbed against your cold toes and, when you searched to no avail for your slippers, you walked to the door, eyes still closed and head rattling.
The birds were louder now, singing and wailing as the breeze began to pick up and the sun climbed higher into the morning sky. You rubbed your eyes, opening them blindly and feeling along the wall for the light switch next to the bedroom door. The handle hit you suddenly and you winced, getting more agitated at your blindness against the sun and at the fact that you still could not find that goddamn switch.
A sound other than the birds caught your attention; a high, snivelling noise that sounded like metal shearing against metal and you stopped in your tracks. You willed your eyes open wide and forced them to adjust to your surroundings, ignoring the trickling pain in the back of your head at the sudden brightness.
Your foot caught the bed frame as you stumbled backwards.
The first thing you noticed was the gold.
Strips and beams of it everywhere, shining and glowing under the early sun, casting echoes of light all around the room so much that you wondered how your eyes hadn’t shut again already.
Everything so bright everywhere: the furniture, the windowsills, the nails in the gritty wooden floorboards all dipped in gold.
Then it was the height; windows that stretched across high walls, touching the ceilings and bending around the front of the room. Drapes twenty feet high spilled from the peak of the glass, billowing down and curling like white fire against the floor.
You could feel your heart pricking, could hear it pounding as you stood, unmoving, amidst it all. The metal noise was further away now, but you could still make out its presence. Were those… scissors?
Surely you were still dreaming – a lucid dream. Far greater than any you’d had before, but not an uncommon occurrence.
With trepidation, you took a few steps closer to the behemoth windows, a shaky hand reaching out in front of you to pull back the curtain that seemed almost alive as it greeted you and tangled your arm in its fabric.
The wind hit your hair, brushing it off your face as the birdsong appeared louder the closer you got to the window, before you finally peered out from behind the fabric and opened your eyes.
You couldn’t even feel yourself breathe.
Everywhere, as far as you could see, was green. Luscious grass and trees and meadows waved back at you, flowers of varying colours danced in the wind as you stood in silent awe. The metal shearing from before had returned to your ears and, as you looked down, you recognised them to be bush trimmers, and there, at their handle, was an arm attached, which led to a body – to a head, and you realised that there was an actual person you could see amongst all the foliage.
He cut the bushes slowly, intricately, creating little swirling curls in the pattern of the leaves, humming gently as he wiped the sweat from his wrinkled brow. You threw yourself back away from the curtain before he had the chance to look up and see you, breath catching in your throat.
This was definitely one of the more extravagant dreams you’d had in a while.
With nothing else to do but gawk at the bedroom, you crept back onto the bed, burying yourself in the plushness and staring up at the ceiling. You then realised that even there had a mural – nature paintings with a little pathway running all the way through the artwork.
There was a person painted on too, a little girl in a pink dress skipping her way through the pink roses with her pink shoes and, if you turned your head just enough, you could make out a large castle at the end of the pathway, all the way on the other side of the room. Like everything else, this palace was the epitome of nature: with green vines climbing its walls and those same pink flowers blooming at the foot of the castle entrance.
Feeling yourself becoming lost in the detail of the artwork, your eyes began to droop once again, all thoughts being forgotten as the softness of the pillows created a cradle for your head, your breathing becoming lighter as –
A knock comes upon the door and you startle yourself awake.
“Your Highness?” A voice called from beyond the gold, “Are you awake?”
At least the bedroom belonging to royalty explained the gold.
You didn’t answer, instead letting the person on the other side dwell in your silence. This was your dream after all, you could let it go however you willed it to.
So you sunk your head further down into the sheets, enjoying the birdsong and the thick blankets that shielded you from the chill in the air, assuming the voice would leave you alone again.
“Young mistress?” Your eyes opened again. Usually you had control over your maladaptive dreams, so why wasn’t this person going away?
“Your Highness, your breakfast is waiting.” They called softly with another rap at the door.
A beat of silence.
“Your Highness?”
This time you got out of the bed, skulking over to the door and hesitating before opening it a peep to finally see who was disturbing your dream.
A fresh-faced, pale girl, not that much older than you, stared back at you with doe eyes. A small smile fell onto her lips as you looked at her, pushing slightly against the door to usher you out. “Cook has prepared your breakfast for you, Your Highness! Earlier than usual, as you requested.”
Her voice was softer without the wooden barrier of the door and, as she leaned in, you realised she smelled like freshly picked berries.
“E-earlier than usual?” Was what you managed to say in response.
Your throat was raw and you were surprised to hear your own voice – you talking wasn’t something that happened often in dreams.
The girl paused, confusion flickering across her features for a second before her smile reappeared against her lips.
“After your lesson yesterday you complained the whole way back!” she giggles, “you said something about food never being ready when you want it, so I asked Cook if he could prepare it before you woke up so you wouldn’t have to wait!”
Now things were getting weird.
A lesson yesterday?
You’d never once had a dream that referenced something that had previously happened.
Everything was always happening in the present as you were dreaming it. They never had any kind of backstory or dimension to them before, just scenarios where you were living out a scene as it happened.
Before you get the chance to speak, another voice cuts through the silence.
“Y/N.” It calls, and you immediately feel the hair prick up at the back of your neck.
The girl in front of you lowers her head slightly at the voice just beyond the hall, just beyond your line of sight, and begins to retreat away from the door.
“I’ll see you at breakfast,” she squeaks, and then she’s gone.
“Y/N!” The voice says again, louder and closer. You’re about to place a hand on the door, to close your eyes and try to wake up when a much older woman steps into the bedroom.
Her shoes are tall and pointed, the body leading up and disappearing under the trim and lace of her green dress as she stands with one hand pointing at your chest.
Her hair dark and ebbing, pin-straight against the broad of her shoulder, save for a singular piece curled in a little ringlet at the base of her neck.
Her stark beauty pierces you in your spot.
“Darling,” she begins again, “whatever happened to you waking up early to catch breakfast?”
The petname eases your paralysis, but you don’t quite let your stiffness go yet and the tall woman sighs, almost floating as she moves around you to sit on the unmade bed.
“The physician told you that it would be good for your heart to stop getting up so late. I thought you promised me you’d start listening to him?”
Compared to her, you had not a single ounce of grace as you croaked back a small ‘what?’, continuously unmoving in your place by the door, a tired hand still holding the handle.
She sighs and runs deft fingers through her hair with a smile. Honestly, her beauty was unlike anything you’d seen before, and if you continued to gape at her you feel like your heart would start to become nervous.
“Come on,” she begins again, “make haste and get dressed. I’ll send in your ladies to prep you for the day.”
The woman goes to leave for the door, her hair trailing behind her as she walks back past you. With a soft hand against your cheek, she says, “I hope you haven’t forgotten about what today will mean for you.”
And then she’s gone. The door closes swiftly behind her, leaving you alone once more, with only the birdsong and the drifting sound of metal snipping in your ears.
What on earth is going on?
This dream has already gone on for longer than you’re used to, and the sensations are so intense you definitely could have mistaken them for reality, especially when a moment later, half a dozen women come piling into the room with dresses and jewellery and little ornate containers in their busying hands.
You don’t even get the chance to say anything before they’re all over you — fingers tangling in your hair, pulling and tugging against your clothes.
“What are you doing!” you say, feeling awfully bare in your new state. Without the warmth of your clothes, you can feel the biting chill of the air, the early sun doing nothing to fight against the new coldness in the room. “Stop it!”
Two of these new girls look at each other with a knowing glance and you can’t help but feel confused when they continue to pull at your hair, scraping it up and high off your face.
“What’s going on?” you cry, but it goes ignored as the swarm still continues to decorate you.
One of them walks over slowly, stopping behind you, just at the base of your feet, and you can feel cold fingers grazing against your neck. You shiver at the feeling.
Are your dreams usually this real? Can you normally feel the temperature of someone’s hand in them?
After a while of fussing, it all stops.
Your eyes had closed at some point during this, and all you can hear is their little shocked gasps and whispers and giggles as you assume they marvel at their creation.
You hear the floorboards creaking, and then the sound of something scraping across the wood before a small, “Open your eyes, Your majesty,” sounds across the room, “look in this mirror.”
When you do, it’s like nothing you’ve ever seen before.
There’s a dress slipping gently off the slope of your shoulders, high in the body before it waterfalls and tumbles all the way down until meeting the floor in swirling waves. It’s pink — the same ballerina hue you saw on the little girl in the ceiling mural, save for the white lace trim and pearl details that swan up and disappear in the fabric of the dress. The shoulders are puffed ever so slightly and curled underneath to taper against your waist, which is tucked in tightly by a pearled pink bodice.
In the mirror, you see half of your hair has been pinned back in gentle strands, with a few loose curls framing the edge of your face.
Speaking of, your cheeks are much softer than usual as you look into the mirror; your skin brighter and your eyes more lifelike than you’ve seen in a while.
The dark circles that usually pierced under your eyes have completely vanished, replaced instead with tiny layers of glitter that shine when you catch them in a ray of sunlight.
Thanks to existing in a struggling 21st century, your face has never looked as radiant as the one peeking back at you now.
It’s definitely your face, but you certainly wouldn’t recognise this woman if you saw her somewhere else.
The girl with the cold hands from before returns behind you again, and this time you’re able to catch a glimpse of her face in the glass — small, frail and beautiful, much like everything else you’ve seen in this dream so far.
She pulls something from one of the little boxes brought in before and, when you look back at yourself in the mirror, you see her placing the most beautiful golden necklace softly against your skin, clasping it closed before straightening it out in your reflection. Like the dress, the train of the necklace is created entirely of glowing pearls, shining in the sunlight and almost dripping onto your skin.
Right in the centre lies a small diamond, dainty and beautiful and matching the ones clipped into your ears.
Your eyes connect with the girl in the mirror, but it’s only a second before she’s looking away, head down and avoiding as she moves back to her spot with the other women.
“Now,” one of them says, clearly much older than the rest, “shall we take you down to breakfast?”
Tumblr media
Your shoes echo as the ladies tunnel you down a drawn out hallway. Every step you feel as though you’re spiralling, tumbling down and down and away as you’re pushed through the manor.
Even out here everything is stained gold, the light fixtures, the tables, the flowers. Towering portraits hung on every wall, their frames dripping and glittering in the candle lights.
Men and women of luxury stared back at you in their watercolours, eyes strong, powerful, and seemingly alive.
The girls who accompanied you down this way hadn’t said a word throughout your journey, instead just holding the train of your dress as it floated behind you.
Honestly, the lace was starting to burn, and the bodice was getting too heavy against your waist but you felt like a princess, so you decided to humour the dream a little longer.
You must have walked for at least ten minutes before you arrived at anything other than gold and prying watercolour eyes.
When the ladies come to a stop, your breath catches.
Before you stood two huge doors, pretty little lines carved into wood and stone and gold. These doors are huge, towering twin oaks that make your neck creak as you look all the way up, the tops of them barely visible before they disappear into the ceiling.
You had no idea it possible for two inanimate objects to make you feel this unimportant, this small, especially in your own dream, but you didn’t have very long to think about it before the eldest woman in the group is giving the handle a firm push and encouraging you inside with a hurried whisper.
The doors swallow you up and your eyes are assaulted by a flush of bright sunlight. Quiet chatter blooms in your ears, but it silences when you fall into the room. With a less than graceful stumble, you hunch your dress and flatten your skirts, straighten your back because you think it’s the right thing to do in this scenario, and open your eyes.
A mistake.
There, before you, is a small audience. Two of them you don’t recognise, but one is the unnerving beauty from before, the one who had fussed over your health and pulled you from bed.
A few seats to her left is a round little man, his jaw square and eyes downturned as they set on you. The hair on his head is tufting, and it takes all you have not to laugh a little at the crumbs lining the collar of his tunic as he looks so seriously at you.
As you turn your attention to the other side of the table, however, all pretence leaves your mind and you let your jaw drop comically.
That’s…
the most beautiful man you think you’ve ever seen.

juyeon x you, soulmate au, royal au, angst
[summary] juyeon can see your past and you can see his future, yet he always wonders about the fallen tears in your eyes  [words] 2.3k [a/n] inspired by minhyun’s universe ♡
Tumblr media
Juyeon had sneaked out of the palace grounds, wearing out of his royal attire as he walked into the crowded street market. He smiled, watching the harmonious business running smoothly in his town and the bargaining conversations filled with laughs and the birds chirping above. There was a proud look on his face before he walked past a jewelry stand, him taking a few steps behind to look at the persian blue bracelet that caught his attention.
As if it was calling his name while the owner of the stand smiled silently, Juyeon reached for it as his hand brushed against another. He didn’t realize you were standing next to him, a stranger who he felt he had seen before. He became breathless, seeing your past run through his mind like he knew everything about you.
For you, you could see his future. He was in a royal attire, holding your hand as he took you through the white flower fields. Your smiles were exchanged, your cheeks flush in red as your heart rushed throughout your veins.
“You must be…?” Juyeon broke the silence, catching you staring still at him. He wanted to continue but he couldn’t leave your eyes too, astonished to find you, his soulmate, in such a crowded place.
“And you must be… Prince Juyeon?” You assumed, knowing he’s really the prince of your town. There was a pause before he laughed. He never thought he’d hear his name being mentioned outside of the palace. He was fond of your small smile and his lips grew, quite amused at everything that was happening in just a matter of seconds.
It didn’t take long for the day to turn to night when you both spent time together after that first moment, learning about each other more. You both were walking on the beach that night, your thoughts filled with just him as your heart calmed at the breeze. His hands were always on his back, one holding the other; you noticed. It must be the way of the royalties, you thought. It must be why he’s quiet. You stole a look and wondered what’s going on in his mind.
Juyeon looked over at you, catching your gaze and it made him smile away when your smile grew as big as the shining moon. He wasn’t used to it, falling so easily that his heart kept racing at the sound of your breath. He didn’t even have the courage to hold your hand so he took a deep breath, stopping at the edge of the waves. Watching you go, he didn’t know if he was ready to take you into the royal walls.
Tumblr media
It took you days to figure out Juyeon’s quiet nature. He was the next prince to be wedded and he must have been careful with his choices as a royal descendant. In fact, that was why it took a few weeks before he finally brought you in, meeting his father and mother, the king and queen, as well as the other important royals roaming in the walls.
The visit was welcoming yet, a little off. All eyes were staring, like you weren’t invited; an intruder who wasn’t approved of. All wonderings about who you may be became real when Juyeon announced to them that you were the one he’d wed.
Arrangements were made right away that you’d be living in the palace until the wedded day, which was in a few days.
While the palace hustled, Juyeon sneaked into your room one night. He must do that often, you wondered when you were on the balcony of your room. The stars were dancing along beside the moon in the dark sky, as if they were whispering love secretly. You counted his steps to you until his arms wrapped around your waist from behind. You didn’t say a word and cupped his hands with yours. He planted a light kiss on your temple, somehow comforting enough that you didn’t have to turn around to look at his sweet face.
“It’s hard, isn’t it?” Juyeon whispered, a sigh following when he looked up at the sky. Your light pat against his hand was an answer and when he turned to look into your beautiful eyes, he was smiling. It made you wonder how he could be so loving even at this moment of tension within the walls. “I can read it on your face.”
It’s harder because of how comfortable his touches had become. Your lips peeked a smile then you turned yourself around so you could hug him back. Your hand found its way to his cheek, your thumb rubbing lightly there. Your feared eyes gazed in his as you whispered to him, “It’s not at all if you’re here with me.”
Juyeon slowly kissed your lips, his lingering there in softness as if he never wanted to leave yours. He led you inside and laid you down on your bed.
The way he touched you tonight, you knew you didn’t have to be scared of anything.
Tumblr media
The next morning, you woke up to a bad dream, a dream of him going through a course of losing you. You honestly thought all of those future scenes you kept seeing were over when you saw all of the happy moments of Juyeon’s life. They all seemed to vanish when all you could remember was you dying in his arms to what it seemed like the day of the wedding and the tears in his eyes, calling for you.
Your outfits were hung in your room beside the vintage dresser and you remembered Juyeon slipping the bracelet that you both had reached for, onto your wrist last night. You thought it was silly of him to get a matching set and he had reasoned it was to remember your first meeting. That memory attempted to calm the tension in your mind as you held him tighter in your arms.
You felt him moving, a guess that he had woken up at the sound of your beating heart. You faked a smile, looking up at his tired face that was so handsome.
“Were you even allowed to sleep in my room?” You asked, which made him giggle, his voice vibrating ran through your chest.
“Of course. I can do whatever I want.”
“Really? Then I can do whatever I want too.” You planted a good morning kiss on his forehead. You could feel him smiling when he brought his hand up right behind your ear, giving you a kiss on the lips instead.
There was a moment of silence when you both pulled back. Juyeon, of course, loved finding the sparkles in your eyes; they’re irresistible yet you found yourself seeing a blur. He caught it, his hand now at the edge of your eye to prevent any tears from falling.
“Should we visit the beach today?”
Tumblr media
You enjoyed a nice breakfast with Juyeon before you were given a short tour around the palace. Quickly after, you both headed for the beach visit, like how you both had done the first time you both met.
You both were walking, hand-in-hand, along the edges of the waters as he reminisced that night he couldn’t hold your hand. It’s amazing to him that he could now.
You, on the other hand, haven’t asked him how his relationships were with the people of the palace, but instead, you were distracted by the way he smiled just now. He was in his head, you could tell and it made you smile too.
“I have to wake up early tomorrow. The maids said it’ll take a while to get me in my outfit and makeup before we can meet.” Your arms swung together in unison as your bracelets brushed each other.
“All of that just for me?” His smile turned into a grin and you were surprised that you almost laughed.
“You mean, us.” You looked away at your walking feet, feeling them sinking into the sand in every little step as your laugh tickled his ears.
“Of course.” Juyeon stopped in his tracks and pulled you to him so you could face him. The breeze was blowing against his hair while the sunset casted its orange light on the side of his face. Your eyes began to tear up, you’d blame the wind. His hand reached your cheek, caressing it, and he assured you, “And if anything happens, I’ll make sure to protect you.”
You saw the softness in his eyes as he was probably thinking about what you’ve been through. Smiling was all you could do if you knew what would happen tomorrow.
Tumblr media
The next morning, Juyeon woke up to you not at his side. He recalled your conversation from the night before, seeing your white outfit gone. He couldn’t wait to see you.
A few hours after he had gotten his black suit on, there was a knock on your door. He turned around from the mirror, not expecting a visitor, especially if he had been sleeping in your room.
A messenger had relied on an order from the King, asking him to visit. Juyeon headed over to his father’s chamber, finding him looking out the window. It wasn’t a good sign, Juyeon sensed, and it must have something to do with you.
The king turned around, expecting Juyeon there.
“What is it that you had called for me, father?” Juyeon asked, his head lowering with an arm over his abdomen.
His father cleared his throat and looked away. “I believe you knew about (Y/n)’s escape.”
“They would not.” Juyeon looked up. His voice became stern, as if he was determined to fight for your life. “We are meant to be together, father. You know that.”
“Your stars do not align, the fortune said.” His father had not given his son a look and he continued as he looked out the window again. “Even if they do, I do not allow you to marry someone I do not approve of.”
“You know that’s not fair.” Juyeon took a step closer to his father though still so far. “What about you and mother? If you were able to be together, knowing you were meant to be, then how could you not allow me to face the same? Isn’t that the rules of life?”
“You, my son, do not disobey my words!” His father finally looked at him when he raised his voice.
“I must if you had taken away my happiness.” Juyeon confessed in a stern yet soft sound, making his father speechless.
“You-”
“Where have you taken them?” He interrupted and as he left the room, he had his sword in hand.
On the way back to your room, Juyeon saw his mother walking, fast-pacing through a hallway. He followed her, noticing the locked door where she had walked away from and he knew you were in there.
Unable to open it by hand, he had to kick it a few times before the doors opened. The room was dark as soon as the doors closed from behind. Looking in the distance, there was a glimpse of you in your wedded outfit but as he ran to you, he stopped at the sudden mirrors of you. His eyes widened, staring at each of them in confusion as if it was an illusion.
It was a trap. Juyeon knew you were in one of them somehow, and he had to be careful when breaking these mirrors with the sword in his hand. Hurting you was the last thing on his mind as he took an attempt, breaking one after another successfully until there was only one of you. Seeing the real figure of you, last standing a few feet in front of him, clinched his heart. He was out of breath, watching how beautiful your tears wet your cheek. He walked up to you before you fell off your feet. He caught you in his arms before you could reach the floor.
Slowly falling onto his knee with you in his arms, he whispered your name, in hopes that you’d open your eyes. The light from the little window at the end of the room casted a perfect round light against the both of you when you exhaled, eyes barely meeting his.
“Sorry.” You managed to say.
“For what?” Juyeon’s voice aspirated quietly because he didn’t want you to know he was crying. Your soft smile made his tear drop onto the side of your cheek where he was caressing.
“I saw this scene yesterday, you using your sword on me… me dying in your arms.” You took a breath as he shook his head, his lips getting smaller.
“You’re not dying, my love.” Juyeon whispered, his voice slow and shaking. He pressed a kiss onto the side of your lips then his arm found its way below your legs before he carried you up into his chest.
Juyeon took you out of the palace walls through a hidden alley and into the forest where a treehouse was hidden within that you both only know.
You heard the birds chirping the next day, finding yourself in his arms again. You realized how different what happened yesterday from the dream you just woke up from. You saw Juyeon walking on the beach with you, smiling like there’s tomorrow to look forward to and the presence of your bracelets for the first time in your dreams. When you looked up at him, you knew that this would be the last future vision you would ever see, seeing how happy he looked. There wasn’t a worry anymore about what would come.
You snuggled in his chest, falling back asleep right when Juyeon woke up. He checked if you were still in his arms before he pulled you closer, even though all spaces were already covered. He planted a kiss on your temple before he sighed. His lips formed a little soft smile, knowing that happiness stays when you’re with him, just like how fate had brought you both together.

hi britt !! wanted to say happy 3k AND happy 5th anniversary 🎉😚💖 for ur celebration event, i was wondering if u could do chanhee + royal au ? i was thinking something like miscommunication like A finds out B is supposed to be married to someone else, but wasn't sure what dynamic specifically 🤧 dunno if that fits ur categories but thank u so much :'))
Thank you, bb!! 🤧🤧❤️❤️ I hope you like this!!
Prince!Chanhee + miscommunication (slight angst)
Tumblr media
Confusion floods through you when Chanhee passes by with only a nod. You pause for a moment, questioning what just happened, before you turn around and look at his retreating back. Never once, in your entire time at the palace, has the prince ignored you like this, and it hurts more than you're willing to admit.
"Prince Chanhee," you call out before you can think better of it.
His movement immediately comes to a halt and he turns to face you with a questioning gaze. The two of you stare at each other for a beat before you take tentative steps toward the other. Once the distance is closed, you search his pretty face for answers, but his face is unreadable.
"Is something wrong?"
"Not at all. Why do you ask?"
His formal words have your guard rising and you shake your head. "Don't. We've never been Iike that before, so please don't start now."
Chanhee looks away from you, and it's then that you notice the tick in his jaw. However, before you can ask about it, his bright gaze finds yours. "I hear congratulations are in order."
Your brows furrow. "Congratulations? For what?"
"Your upcoming nuptials," he answers with a barely contained scoff.
The words repeat in your head as you try to process them, but they're so unhinged you can barely fathom them. Slowly, you say, "I don't have any upcoming nuptials."
Chanhee searches your bemused expression. The tethered anger he's hiding slowly drains away. "You're not getting married?"
"Who on earth would I be marrying?" You ask, bewildered.
"But Jaehyun said -" He stops and takes a deep breath. "I was told you're marrying a Duke from the neighboring country."
A laugh bursts out of you at the absurd rumor. Of course, this would somehow come down to Jaehyun. He was always spreading around every word he heard, regardless if it were true or not. You thought Chanhee knew not to believe everything that little weasel said.
"Chanhee, my cousin wants to marry the Duke… I'm too busy being in love with the prince."

“You and I will not be seeing eye to eye on this. I arrived first, I asked for her hand first, and I will not bow down to some… dog .”
An audible growl filled the room, a reverb as the man across the way’s lip finally curled up.
“I’ve listened to you hiss and spit nonsense at me for half an hour, if you’d like to do more than that, I’d be more than happy to entertain that, but if all you intend on doing is make cheap shot swipes at me, it's obvious who it is she should choose to take her hand.”
You sit with your ankles crossed, your hands in your lap, watching the two men bicker at one another.
The first man is Juyeon, sent from the land of Lucid Dream. It was a place born of ice and snow, it seemed fitting that their Crown Prince was a snow leopard, his speckled tail twitching in agitation as he glared down his much bigger rival.
This being Yunho, an African wild dog sent from the kingdom of Eternal Sunshine, who stood taller than Juyeon, stared him down with an unimpressed stare, his ears, also spotted, flicking to and fro as he made steadfast eye contact with the two of them.
“Milady, I don’t think this one is going well. I don’t know how the meetings got mixed up like this-probably Donghyuck again-but I can escort them out immediately if you would like to. Before things get too…rowdy?” your consultant whispers beside you, eyes flicking back and forth between the two apex hybrids.
You hum, your nose twitching slightly.
They both smelled quite nice. How very coy of their respective Kingdoms to send hopefuls to you that were bordering on their respective ruts.
A smile crosses your face, you stand, and in an instant, both men pause in their arguing, eyes fixed on you.
“Lucid Dream and Eternal Sunshine, long have you two been at odds with one another, no? If my recollection of history goes, your two kingdoms have been in a bitter, decades-long spat with one another, right?” You step down from your post, your hand soft and delicate within your consult’s hand as he assists you.
“Milady-”
“I will be fine, Xiaojun. Tell Mark and Donghyuck to go prepare for me. It won’t take long, I made my decision.”
Xiaojun looked at your small form, pursing his lips in concern. Leaving you, a rabbit, in a room with a wild dog and a snow leopard seemed to be the LAST thing he wanted to do, but a simple quirk of your brow settled any unsaid complaints he had and he merely sighed and nodded, making his way out of the room.
The sound of your heels against the grand marble floors echoes as you make your way to the two of them, without a doubt picking up on the competing pheromones rolling off of them both in waves.
They straighten their backs, looking at you with a noticeably gentler look.
“It will take them some time to prepare my room, I imagine.”
Neither men said anything, though you can see their tails stand still, their ears perked.
The corner of your lips tilt slightly, how cute.
“The two of you can prove yourselves to me in a different way. If my kingdom is to be the bridge, we will do things my way.” you speak slowly, removing your heels and setting them aside. The two men stare, blinking slowly and curiously while you make your way to the door, a smile tugging at your lips as you feel their gaze on your smaller form.
“Let’s see who’s faster.”
You toss the door open, darting down the hall in a flash, and laughing to yourself as you count the seconds it takes before there is an eruption of noise and movement behind you.
You’re grateful for Xiaojun knowing where you were going with your untold portion of your orders to him, as the halls are relatively empty. Any servants mulling about were on alert and the moment they see you rushing down the hall, jovial and full of energy, they press themselves to the wall, keeping themselves there as two blurs rush by moments later.
“Stupid dog, move! She’s mine!” Juyeon rushed by, his eyes narrowed as he followed the scent down the hall. Yunho growled, his legs long and swift, making sure Juyeon did not overtake him in speed.
He wouldn’t lose. Failure was not an option. If the Princess wanted her soon-to-be betrothed to win in a challenge of speed-and if it came down to it, strength-he wouldn’t back down.
Especially not to a trash-talking feline from their rival kingdom.
Yunho narrowed his eyes, the scent made a sharp turn, but it was faint.
Instead, the scent had subtle stronger traces to the right. He turned, rushing down that way while Juyeon continued down the main hall.
The feline’s tail twitched when he saw him break off, but he ignored it, keeping his eyes focused on the hall he was running down.
You were…beautiful. He’d been sent with a mission in mind and he intended to follow through, to have your hand, but the moment he laid eyes on you, he knew he’d be the one to sweep you off your feet.
He’ll be damned if they lost to a clumsy dog from that place .
Juyeon swore when he found the hall was a dead end. A window was open, a silken curtain blowing in the wind. Out of it, was an avian, clearly some form of messenger, carrying a torn piece of the dress you had worn before him.
He’d been duped.
“FUCK!”
Yunho had better luck, finding you rushing through the halls while wearing a robe you’d taken from a passing servant. He let out a bark of excitement, the thrum of the chase overriding his senses as he barreled down the hall.
The decorative pins and chains on his outfit jingled and chimed as he got closer to you and you smile to yourself, slipping into a room and tucking yourself into a laundry chute, sticking your tongue out at the large dog as he stuck his head through the opening, eyes wide with excitement as you slide from view.
“Gonna have to try harder than that~” You tease, skipping as you step out from the other side.
Behavior unbecoming of a queen? Possibly. But if you were to tie your life to someone, why shouldn’t you have fun? If they couldn’t do this much, how can they expect to bring your kingdoms closer?
You dust yourself off, your ears twitching ever so slightly before you look around the laundry room. It was deathly quiet inside and you feel yourself freeze.
Someone is inside. Watching.
You don’t move anything but your head, locking eyes with something reflective and gold in the dark room.
The moment you do, it lunges at you, and it took a moment longer than you expected to force your brain to catch up to speed. In those moments, you feel your clothes being grabbed, and you stumble, nearly colliding with a wall when a strong arm wraps around your waist, lifting you with ease.
“Well, that was a pretty neat little trick you did there, my beloved. But it seems I’ve caught you. What do I win?” Juyeon inquired, and you can smell his scent thick in your nose, his heartbeat pounding against his chest and your back.
You smile and turn to him, your own heartbeat thundering loud as you place a kiss to his nose.
“Another round.” You smile and slip from his grip, shrinking your arms as close to your body as you can and sliding the robe you had taken from a servant off, rushing out of the room as Juyeon swore behind you.
The hall isn’t far from your room. You figure everything is ready and if the boys couldn’t catch you by the time the door closed, your little game was over and you’d win.
Did you want to? Probably not, but it was still fun.
A crash sounds from behind you, and you hear two sets of footsteps approaching, the hall flooded with pheromones.
“Move, dog!”
“Like hell, cat. Back off!”
You glance over your shoulder and find both of the men right on your heels.
Aren’t they too close? You squeak in surprise as both of them stumble over each other, tripping and falling onto you in a heap. The air leaves your lungs and a startled yelp fell from your lips, in an instant, both of them are picking you up, panic clearly set into their features.
“Lady Y/N!” They call to you at the same time, and it takes a moment for you to get your bearings, your nose twitching ever so slightly. You sniff, the smell of their combined scents flooding your senses.
You feel a familiar heat settle in your core, and you realize the repetitious sound in your ears is your own heartbeat. You smile at the two men, and no doubt by now they can smell your arousal.
“Are you okay?” Juyeon inquired, his fiery disposition from before gone as he gently cupped your face, his hand warm to the touch. Yunho checked you over visually, eyes rolling over your body, looking for bruises or worse, blood.
Instead, he’s met with your flushed gaze, your chest rising and falling quickly.
“Looks like you both got me.”
The two men exchange a look with one another before looking back at you.
“Technically, I caught you first.” Juyeon interjected. Yunho narrowed his gaze at him before sighing.
“I’ll leave, I just want to make sure you both didn’t get hurt when I fell on you.”
You take his hand and Juyeon’s, a spark in your eyes as both of them look at you curiously.
“Lady Y/N?”
“If you boys don’t mind, let’s try one more thing. I’m sure that will settle this once and for all.”
They exchange a look with one another and nod slowly, curiosity making both of their respective tails sway to and fro.
-x-
“My, you two are quite pent up mm?” You let out a faux pout, a cock in each hand as you stroke slowly. There’s a wicked glint in your eye as you look up at the two, delighted by the way they both seemed adamant on holding back and not ‘crumbling’ before the other.
Poor things, they still think this an either-or situation.
Your ears twitch ever so slightly, picking up every sharp gasp and low groan from the two of them as you stroke faster, twisting one hand while you gently squeezed with the other.
“M-Milady-” Juyeon grit out, biting his lip so hard you could see small indents from his fangs. Yunho wasn’t much better, letting out unintelligible pants and growls, seemingly trying to keep himself from actually speaking so he didn’t make a fool of himself.
It’s fine, Juyeon. You already won. Both of you have.”
Both of them sober slightly, looking at one another with a competitive spark before jolting when you bring your lips down, breath fanning over the head of their cocks as you run your tongue over them.
“Let’s get along well, okay~?”
The two buckle, scent thickening with arousal when they finally pick up on your own heat as you shift below them.
They’d stirred something inside of you, it’s only right for them to take responsibility for it.
“A-as if I’d get along well w-with someone like him.” Yunho grit out, his cock throbbing in your mouth as you tease his head with your tongue. Juyeon hissed at him, turning his head sharply.
“F-feeling’s mutual. I doubt a stupid ass dog could pleasure her, anyway .” He grit out. Yunho’s eyes blazed with the challenge and you roll your eyes below them, giving both of their cocks a squeeze. They buck and jolt, their attention landing back on you.
“Play nice.” You warn, pressing their cocks together, dragging your tongue over their slits, keening at the mixed taste. “It’d be a shame if I didn’t get to taste more because you two can’t behave.” You sigh softly, letting your tongue roll over Yunho’s cock, then Juyeon’s, and back again.
The two go quiet. Or, rather, as quiet as they could get as the occasional moan and keen roll from their lips, their rivalry temporarily placated by your actions.
They were handsome, of course. No Kingdom in their right mind would send you someone less than average, but they looked better like this, faces flushed, panting, fingers flexing as they tried to keep their hands off of you.
“That’s better.” You sit up, caressing their balls and smiling, your scent thick and sweet. Both of them unconsciously lean towards you, and you open yourself to them, perking so your breasts are spilling from the top of your dress.
An invitation, that’s what it is.
They took it for what it was, cupping and groping one breast each as you raise your head higher.
“I d-didn’t expect this nn…today,” Yunho growled, his cock throbbing in your small hand as he ran his lips over the sweet glands on the left side of your neck.
Juyeon grunted in agreement, his tongue flicking out, dragging over your throat. The barbs at the center were soft, and you find yourself clenching on nothing as they kiss their way lower, greedy lips finding your nipples.
You gasp and close your eyes, rolling their balls in your hand, trembling in their grip as you feel them running their hands down your body as they alternate between kisses to your chest and small, marking nibbles and bites.
Juyeon’s hand found its way to your folds first, chuckling airdly as he rubbed slowly. You yip and clench on nothing, your hands stopping momentarily.
“Ah, don’t you want us to bond, Bun? Don’t stop just because he’s touching you.” Yunho growled, sucking a spot into your breast you were sure wouldn’t fade easily after tonight. You narrow your eyes at him in challenge, but they flutter the moment Juyeon pinches and rolls your clit, his breath fanning over your ear.
“You’re already so wet. Did it feel nice giving us the run-around. Leaving such a sweet scent for us to follow, it’s only right we pay you back in kind.” He growled, lifting his fingers and spreading them apart, showing you-and Yunho-the slick covering them.
Your lips tremble as you look up at them, your head swirling in need as you watch Juyeon offer his messy fingers to Yunho.
He stared, eyes narrowing in need for a moment before he sucked them into his mouth, fangs grazing Juyeon’s fingers before he pulled back, a deep growl pulling from his chest as he turned to you.
“C’mere. Let’s get you comfortable.”
His definition of ‘comfortable’ was splaying you out with your legs spread in their laps, both of them kissing and biting at your necks as you squirming as you let them both stretch you, your slick making a mess of your ass, their hands, and their thighs below.
“I-I’m ready!” You cry, arching high and clenching on their fingers, mouth falling open as one of them curls their finger up to brush against your gspot. Your cries are met with deep chuckles and a kiss from each of them as they slow only long enough for you to catch your breath.
“Are you sure?” Yunho teases, his lips against your ear before he bites.
Your eyes widen and you find yourself squirting as you jolt, a yip leaving your lips. Both men let out amused keens, holding you so you wouldn’t fall as the sudden shockwave rolls through you.
“So pretty~” Juyeon purred, pulling his fingers free, smiling like the cat that ate the canary as he ran his tongue over his fingers, licking them clean as you pant, trying to catch your breath.
There’s a wet smacking sound above your head and you find yourself squished between the men. One glance across from yourself to the mirror they’d propped you up in front of and you found out why.
Yunho had his hand fisted in Juyeon’s hair, pulling him in for a demanding kiss, chasing your taste on his tongue. The sight made you keen, and you cup their necks, running your fingers over their glands, smiling as they both shuddered.
“It looks like you two are getting along just fine now, mm?” You purr.
They part, panting as they stare each other down.
“Yeah,” Juyeon mewled, his tail twitching and jerking in interest behind him.
“I think we’ll get along just fine.” Yunho licked his lip and moved to grab you by the hips, picking you clean up.
“Come, I think we’ve held back for too long. I’m aching.”
You find it exciting how easily the two of them can move you at will. Strong, yet gentle hands positioned so you were straddling Yunho, staring down hungrily at his cock as Juyeon held his cock up.
Your plan was simply to tease, but as you watch the two eye you hungrily, then eye each other with the same gaze, you realize maybe this was going to work a lot better than your playful mind had anticipated.
Taking Yunho was a task in itself. Even with your slick, you were grateful Juyeon paused to coat the bigger hybrid’s cock in lube provided by your consultants (you’d thank Xiaojun, Mark, and Donghyuck later).
“T-Tight-” Yunho growled, his canines pronounced the more he lost his composure, his hands gripping your hips tight. You cling to his hands, body shaking as Juyeon cooed sweet nothings to you, reaching to rub your clit and the base of your tail.
“A-Ahn- fuck-” You swear, eyes closing as Juyeon’s feline purrs override your mind.
“That’s it. Such a good wife you’re going to be for us. Open your eyes, Princess. You’re bulging.” He growled, cupping your jaw. You gasp and look down, eyes widening as you see the tell-tale bulge in your stomach.
Had…had he grown bigger while he was inside of you?
The very thought made you gush on his cock, your hands falling to Yunho’s chest as you bounce on your own accord, eager to feel him deeper inside.
“S-Shit- Y/N-” He swears, hands tightening on your hips as you ride him, your hips and ass slapping against his thighs. Juyeon watches, mesmerized as you swallow Yunho’s cock, your slick leaving a lewd, shiny trail on his cock that dribbled down to his balls.
“C-Come…come here.” Your voice startled the snow leopard back into focus and he glanced up, pupils dilating as you open your mouth, tongue out for him.
“G-Gimme.” You demand, and he doesn’t need to be told twice, standing up and cupping the back of your head. He doesn’t even have the time to open his mouth and be a gentleman, to urge you to go slow before you dive down, eagerly bobbing your head until you feel him touch the back of your throat.
They both smelled so good, thick and hot and it made you crave more, especially hearing both of them moan and gasp your name. Yunho thrust his hips up, bouncing you in his laps and he would have probably knocked you off balance, had it not have been for the iron-clad grip your thighs had on his frame and his hands had on your hips.
Juyeon kept himself anchored by cupping your head, and rubbing the base of your ears. He found your throat tightening at the motion and smiled wickedly.
“Is that n-nice? Having your cute little ears rubbed while we claim your pussy and your throat?” He panted, hissing through his teeth as he watched you turn your teary, pleasure-struck gaze up to him, drooling as his cock pressed deep into your throat.
“I c-can’t keep holding it back.” Yunho gritted, eyes flickering back and forth between your mouth and your pussy, both stuffed in such a lewd manner.
You clench around him, a subtle sign you didn’t want him to, and thankfully both of them took the sign for what it was, fucking you and your throat with a mismatched tempo that eventually synched up.
Every fiber of your body felt like it was alight with pleasure, and stars exploded behind your lids as you finally felt them flood your mouth and pussy. You feel delighted as you feel the mess between your legs, only sealed inside by Yunho’s cock (which still throbbed, almost as if he wanted to unload more into your tightness). Juyeon pulled you out of your musing when he pulled out of your mouth, panting like a beast as he looked down upon your kiss-swollen and saliva-covered lips.
“That’s our good girl. Are you alright?” Yunho murmured, petting your head. You lick your lips, taking a moment to gather your barings before pressing into his hand, smiling.
“You two don’t think we’re done, do you?” You inquire after catching your breath. They exchange a look of surprise with one another before quickly recovering and grinning.
-x-
Minutes turned to hours, and positions changed. From you eagerly arching your back, nuzzling Yunho’s cock and teasing it with kisses as Juyeon takes you from behind to you biting marks into his ass while Yunho thrusts into him, keeping his cheeks spread with a devious giggle as his fiery voice melted into airy, near shy whimpers. Or the way Yunho trembled and groaned as you bite marks into his thighs while he greedily curled his tongue deep inside of Juyeon, reaching around to stroke him and milk another orgasm from the spent feline.
By the time the three of you are actually satiated, you lay in a pile of noodle-like limbs, dazed and happy as you gather your bearings.
“I think,” Juyeon panted, running a hand through his sweaty locks.
“-this is the start to a wonderful union.” Yunho finished, nosing both you and Juyeon’s hair, clearly close to dozing. You blink.
“...oh, right, the kingdom thing.” You yawn despite both of them laughing. You motion for them to follow you to your private bath, cum dribbling down your legs.
“C’mon, my sweets. We need all the rest we can get if we are to continue our… negotiations tomorrow, yes?” You wink at them over your shoulder, smiling as they appear at your side in a flash, heading deeper into the bathroom before closing the door with a click.
“Right, negotiations. I’m sure that’s what we can call it.”

Tumblr media
You felt yourself groan for what had to have been the millionth time. It was the last few days of summer break, the last few days of freedom, and you were stuck in a small town to sit at an arcade all day with your family. Don’t get it twisted. You loved your family, but you would have rather spent the last few days of summer break with friends, not babysitting your brother and his annoying friends. Your mother was with you, but her head was in a different place. She was too engrossed in the facebook drama on her phone to even bother watching him.
When she heard you groan, she brought her phone down. Laying it on the table, she reached into her purse and pulled out some loose change.
Handing it to you, she spoke. “Go find something to do. I’ll watch them.”
You look at the quarters in your hand as you roll your eyes. What could you possibly find to do with a roll of quarters? Heading towards the game area, you dipped and dodged the annoying little kids that were running around as you eyed the different types of games.
Air Hockey? Ew. Pac-man? Old. All the games were boring you. Continuing to walk around the different games, you noticed a cracked door. You looked around at everyone. They were mainly distracted by all the kids running around. Parents keeping kids from breaking games, and workers wiping pizza grease and sticky soda off the joysticks and screens of games.
You took the opportunity to head for the door, slipping past it and shutting it behind you before stopping. In the back of the almost empty room was a dark, dusty game. It was built like the pac-man game, but hidden towards the back of the room. You noticed the plug laying on the ground as you reached for it, sticking it into the outlet. The room lit up in purples, teals, and greens as the machine came to life.
A small smile made its way to your face as you let your hands graze the old machine. The buttons were chipped, paint peeling, pictures faded, and the screen had a crack in it at the very top corner. The title popped across the screen in bright colorful letters as you read it outloud.
“The Phantom Thief.” You said.
The room was quiet besides the music that was softly resonating from the machine under your hands. A black box popped up on screen as it gave you a background story.
“Wayward within the kingdom lives a crooked worker of the royal family. He strikes at night, and he has earned the nickname the phantom thief. Help the thief steal the King’s prized possession, his royal pendant crown. Or help the guards catch the thief. Try to attempt it in the fastest time possible? Which fate will you choose?” You read quietly.
Looking behind you, you checked the door quickly before taking off the jacket you were wearing. You stick your jacket on the floor, covering the gap between the bottom of the door and the floor before getting up and walking back over to the game. You clicked on the phantom thief character before taking another quick look around the empty room. You turned back around to stare at the screen, the colorful background mesmerizing, as your hand hovered over the start button. You let your fingers run over the worn out button as it lit up, making your fingers jolt.
You jumped at the feeling. A laugh blew past your lips as you pushed the button. The game practically came to life as you watched your hand disappear right before your eyes. The scream you let out reverberated farther than you thought as the room went black.
It suddenly felt very cold, too cold to be air conditioning as you stand. You felt a burning sensation on your face as you brought your hand up to rub. You felt fresh scratch marks as you looked around. The bare trees rattled you as you took in your surroundings. The area was quiet as called out.
“Hello?” You said loudly.
The sound of your voice disappeared in the night as you squinted slightly. How did you get outside? Where was the arcade? Where was your brother? And damn it, why the hell did you take your coat off? You started to walk, hugging yourself to keep warm, as you looked at all the trees. You felt like you were stuck in a forest as you walked.
When you passed the same tree for what seemed like the third time, you let out a whimper.
“Keep walking.” You heard from behind you as you went to scream.
The voice you heard wrapped a hand around your head, covering your mouth as he spoke.
“Don’t scream! Don’t scream or they will find us.” The voice said.
You got pulled behind a ledge as you heard yelling in the distance.
“Search the perimeter! They are around here somewhere!” Another voice said.
A trotting sound grew closer than distanced itself as you heard it multiple times. When it was quiet, you turned around to face a mischievous smile. He pulled his hand away from your mouth as you opened yours again.
He panicked, speaking quickly. “Please don’t scream!”
“Who are you?” You asked softly.
“I’m Eric. I’m the character you picked.” He told you happily.
Shaking your head, you spoke. “What? What character?”
Eric snickered. “From the game, silly! The Phantom Thief.”
He pointed at himself, his mischievous grin growing like the Cheshire cats. “That’s me.”
“Wait, character? I-,I’m in the game.” You asked him.
He nodded. His face was visible to you in the darkness. “Yes ma’am.”
You smiled slightly at his tone. “How do you know you’re a game character?”
Eric laughed. “Oh yeah! I guess you could say you aren’t the only person to visit us. A lot meet me on the other side though.”
Furrowing your eyebrows, you say up. “What do you mean on the other side?”
The boy shrugged. “People never choose me. It’s always the King’s men. I don’t understand why.”
He started to pout. “It’s not like I’m a bad person. They just like to be on the side of justice for some reason.”
You couldn’t help but breathlessly laugh at his statement. “Maybe it’s because people don’t want to get in trouble.”
“But that’s the fun part! The risk! Knowing that you could get in trouble is only half of it. It’s the thrill of the run.” Eric said before stopping. “Now, we need to get a move on. They’ve widened their search, leaving the castle exposed.”
He took a peek from behind the ledge before standing up. Reaching down for your hand, he gently pulled you up as he took off. You stumbled slightly, having trouble keeping up with all of his endless energy as he whipped and whirled his way through the array of trees. You could see two lights becoming more prominent as he continued to pull you.
As the lights got closer, you heard galloping as you yanked Eric as hard as you could. He jolted backwards before being pulled into a pile of leaves, surrounded by a whole bunch of trees. Eric went to speak as you covered his mouth.
“How am I the newbie, and you are almost about to get caught?” You asked.
You could feel Eric’s grin burning into your hand as he spoke. “Good choice. Most people choose to keep running.”
You felt goosebumps arise as you pulled away from him. “You knew this would happen?”
He shook his head. “I didn’t know which decision you would make, but I knew the first decision was coming up. I told you. I’m a part of the game, remember?”
Eric sat up, prompting you to move off of him as he stood up, dusting himself off. “There will be quite a few decisions that will be left up to you to make. Choose wisely, and you’ll be able to steal the crown.”
The statement he gave you made you shudder as it sounded too much like a computer given answer rather than his own statement.
“Right, well. We should keep moving.” You told the boy, making him nod.
He peeked out from the pile you both had fallen into as he motioned for you to follow him. He kept the both of you hidden from the lights as he followed the pathway towards the castle.
“In the introduction, it says you work for the royal family.” You said softly.
Eric chuckled, looking back at you to give you a grin. “Aren’t I just the worst?”
You giggled as you both continued to walk. You were surprised at how easily you were moving through before Eric stopped.
He looked at you expectantly, almost waiting for you to do something as you gave him a look.
“What?”
“What do we do now?”
You scoffed. “You’re the one who does this for a living. You tell me.”
Eric shook his head. “That’s not how games work. Characters do what you want them to do.”
Not understanding, you looked forward and noticed a gate.
“A gate? What do we need to unlock it?” You asked.
Eric shrugged. “You tell me? Unlocking would risk wasting time and getting caught. The gate, however, is quite old. That means that trying to jump would risk making a lot of noise.”
“Well jumping it is what we’ll have to do because I don’t have anything to pick the lock with.” You told the boy.
He looked you up and down before taking a step towards you. Your eyes widened as he leaned into you, his nose inches from yours as he spoke.
“What’s that?” He asked curiously.
Your eyes drifted upwards, following to where his index finger was pointed and you let your hand drift upwards. Your hand ran over your hair before feeling something.
“My goodness, Eric, you're a genius!” You said happily.
The boy scrunched up his face in confusion as you pulled the bobby pin that was in your hair out of your head. Grabbing his hand, you pulled the boy towards the gate, opening the bobby pin in the process.
“Um, you still never told me what it is.” Eric said softly as he watched you mess with the lock on the gate.
“It’s a bobby pin.” You told him quietly.
He watched you mess with the lock, sticking the foreign object in it and wiggling it around.
“What is a bobby pin?” Eric asked.
You felt yourself laugh as you spoke. “A very helpful tool for people with hair that doesn’t want to cooperate.”
Eric leaned over slightly to get a better look at it as he spoke again. “It looks dangerous.”
You shrugged. “Ehh. Depends.”
You heard a click as you smiled at Eric victoriously. His eyes widened as you slowly pushed the gate open. It creaked slightly, making you stop with a wince before continuing. The gate was opened enough for the both of you to slip in as Eric closed it behind him.
You put the bobby pin back in your hair as Eric looked at you.
“What?”
“You’re the first person to choose picking the lock. It’s the easiest one and the percentage of getting the crown is higher when you pick it.” Eric said in awe.
“Don’t seem so surprised. It’s not the first time I’ve picked a lock.” You told the boy.
You picked back up, walking up the walkway of the castle as you looked over the large building. It was sort of old, but still very extravagant. Decorated to the nines with beautiful sculptures and busts. Beautiful bushels of flowers surrounded both sides of the lane way.
“Pansies.” Eric told you as you looked at them.
The colors almost sparkled under the moonlight as you spoke.
“Shouldn’t they be dead? I mean, it’s kind of freezing out here.” You said quietly.
This caught Eric’s attention as he took off the jacket he was wearing, wrapping it around your body. You felt your cheeks heat up as Eric continued on like he didn’t just do something to make you embarrassed.
“That’s why they picked this flower. They are able to survive the harshest of winters. Though I have to admit, this winter has been particularly cold.” Eric said.
You chuckled. “Funny, because outside the game, in the real world, the summer has been insanely hot. We’ve hit record-breaking temperatures.”
Eric smiled. “Maybe that’s why it’s been so cold.”
You smiled with him as you both continued to walk the pathway. The castle doors were drawing closer as you spoke again.
“This seems too easy.” You said.
“What does?”
“Just walking up the pathway to the castle. Am I about to just walk right through the doors?” You asked him.
Eric went to speak before you heard yelling.
“Check the castle ground, and make sure they didn’t break in!” Someone said as your eyes widened.
You looked at Eric who looked too calm in this situation as he spoke.
“You have your choice of the library window or the garden house. Though I will admit, there is the guard dog.” Eric said.
“Where? In the garden house?”
Eric shrugged.
“The library?”
He shrugged again, making you groan. “Where is the dog Eric?”
Eric through his hands up as you whined before spotting the garden house, you pulled him along through the grass, dodging statues before opening the garden house doors. Eric watched you pulled his jacket off and tie the doors shut as he looked at you with a smile.
“Excellent choice.” He told you.
You narrowed your eyes at the boy, a scowl decorating your face as you turned to look around. Beautiful plants were growing up the walls. Flowers covered to protect them from the cold looked as if they were waving due to the wind. A singular pane of glass at the top of the garden house was broken, allowing full moonlight to filter into the building. This allowed you to get a much better look at Eric.
He was handsome, that’s for sure. His hair was a deep purple color, almost burgundy with slight black highlights spread throughout. Eric wasn’t the tallest, but he was well built with the average height he was at. He had full lips and a prominent nose. An almost oval shaped head held all his features, and it came to a sawed off point at his chin. You would be lying if you were to say you weren’t attracted to him. You chalked it out to a school girl crush due to the fact that his smile made you feel like you had butterflies in your stomach.
“So, what goes on out there? You know, in the real world.” Eric asked, pulling you from your thoughts.
You both fell in stride as you made your way through the large garden house.
“Well it’s summer vacation right now. There’s like less than a week of it left, though.”
Eric’s nose scrunched up. “Summer vacation?”
You nodded. “Yeah. Like we have school from August to the first week of June. And then we have summer vacation until August. And then we repeat the whole cycle for the next 12 years.”
Eric looked at you, horrified. “That sounds awful. It sounds like a prison.”
You chuckled. “Something like that. You don’t have school here?”
Eric shrugged. “I don’t really know. I’ve only ever worked for the royal family.”
You nodded, remembering that he was just a character in a game. He didn’t know about any of this real world stuff.
“No one ever took the time to tell you about what goes on outside of here, have they?” You asked him quietly.
The thief shook his head. “Like I said, no one ever chooses me.”
His statement made you frown as your heart sank a little. He sounds so lonely.
You both continued on until you got to a cracked door at the front of the garden house. Eric held his hand up, stopping you as he took careful steps forward. His head poked outside the door, red hair blowing around in the wind as he looked around. When he was sure the coast was clear, he turned to you, holding out his hand with a nod. You let your hand fall into his as he led you back out into the night. You were now positioned towards the side of the castle as Eric pointed towards a staircase that led underground.
“Tunnels. We use them to deliver food, supplies, things like that. It’s safer than trying to do it in the open.” He told you.
“Too many thieves?” You asked jokingly.
Eric looked at you with a smirk. “Look who’s catching on.”
You both laughed as Eric continued to lead the way. You happened to notice that he was still holding your hand, showing no signs of letting it go. The sight made your heart jump as you held on tightly to him. When you got to the entrance of the staircase, Eric dropped your hand to grab a torch that was already lit. He led the way down the stairs, constantly looking behind him to not only check on you but make sure you weren’t tailed. The torch was the perfect light source for the both of you as you were able to only illuminate small portions of the tunnels as opposed to the entire tunnel. It felt like the temperature had dropped lower since you moved under the castle and you mentioned that to Eric.
“Is it normal for it to be even colder down here than it is above ground?”
You pulled the jacket Eric had given you tighter around your body as you waited for him to reply.
“There isn’t any heat to reach underground. So the tunnels always stay cold. It gets worse when it’s regularly cold out.” Eric whispered.
It felt the tunnels were never-ending before Eric stopped, the torch flame billowing in the wind slightly. He pointed to a wooden door as he looked at you.
“There.” He said softly, voice echoing off of the hollow walls of the underground tunnel.
You stepped forward as you looked at the door. “Is this where we enter?”
Eric shrugged. “That depends. This puts us at the far end of the castle which means we have to cover more ground indoors to get to the crown. If we continue to follow the tunnels then we’ll get closer to the King’s room. That holds all his most prized possessions, including the crown.”
You thought about what could be waiting for you if you went into the castle now, but being in a warm castle, unthawing seemed way better than freezing to death. Plus, you weren’t sure how much longer these tunnels were, and you weren’t willing to bet your life on it.
“Come on,” You waved to the boy as you gently pulled at the handle of the wood door.
Eric nodded, setting the torch in a holster on the wall next to the door. He pulled the door open more, stopping when it scraped against the gravel on the tunnel floor. He laid a hand on your lower back, slowly coaxing you forward first as he tried his best to quietly pull the door shut behind him. When the door closed, it echoed into the large empty room you had entered. You turned to give Eric a look as he shrunk down at your gaze.
“Sorry,” He whispered.
You shook your head slightly as you looked around, trying to see if you could figure out what room you were in. It was dark in the room. The moonlight coming through the window was reflecting off of multiple surfaces that looked shiny and almost metallic like.
“The kitchen.” You said to yourself.
Eric caught up to you and your cautious steps as he helped navigate you through the rather large kitchen.
“They barely use this.” He told you, noticing your curiosity in the appliances that looked brand new.
You scoffed. “Then why have a kitchen?”
Eric chuckled. “Something to look at.”
You turned to him as you smiled. He sounded so normal when he said that. Like he knew what he was saying, and wasn’t repeating what his character says. The glimpses of realness Eric was giving you made you happy. You wanted to know more, so you continued to press as you exited the large kitchen and into a hallway.
“How did you start working for this royal family?”
Eric shrugged. “I don’t know. I’ve just always been here.”
You frowned. “Do you have a favorite food?”
“I eat bread when my health gets low. Does that count?”
You couldn’t believe what you were hearing. It was unreal how real he was in front of you, but how computerized he was on the inside. Eric didn’t seem to mind the questions nor was he bothered by his answers considering he barely got to move around anyway unless someone managed to play the game.
The hallway you two were in led down a long corridor to a split. You looked down both ways, seeing double doors down towards the end of the left side, and nothing but more hallway on the right side.
“Next choice.” Eric said softly.
You kept moving your head left and right, trying to figure out which way to go. Eventually you took the left path, looking back at Eric for confirmation. All he gave you was a smile as he let you lead the way. The walk to the double doors was short as you laid both hands on each door before pushing them open. The heavy wood stood still for a moment before peeling open, rather loudly. The moan of the doors opening reverberated off the empty walls making you cringe as you both walked in.
The room you were in was a bedroom. A large bed and dresser were up against the far wall with a large ceiling to floor window against the wall, showing the night sky. You had to admit the view was impeccable, but you didn’t get to enjoy it long. A faint growl made the hairs on the back of your neck stand as you and Eric both looked at each other.
“The guard dog?” You asked quietly.
Eric’s eyes were the size of saucer plates as he nodded.
You both turned slowly, coming face to face with a rather large dog that looked to be something out of a nightmare. Whoever the game creators were got the look of a scary guard dog correct. The dog looked similar to something out of Stephen King’s Cujo. With foam coming out of its mouth and dark, almost dead eyes, the dog looked like it was ready to rip apart anything and everything that stepped foot in the castle. You took a step back from the window as you looked at Eric.
The boy was making quick glances at the door as the dog took a step forward.
“Run!” Eric yelled.
Grabbing your hand, Eric practically dragged you out of the room and down the other hallway. The dog was hot on your trail, loud barking making more noise than you would've hoped. Lights began to turn on as the dog was now alerting the guards looking for Eric.
As you continued to run, you noticed a door that was just slightly ajar. You took the opportunity to yank on your arm, pulling Eric towards the door. The immediate redirection threw the dog for a loop as it couldn’t come to a complete stop with the speed it was hitting. You managed to make it in the room, both of you closing the door just in the knick of time. The dog hit the door hard. That didn’t seem to stop, but rather further piss him off as he started to jump at the door and scratch at it. You pulled a nearby chair towards you, pinning it under the door knob as you leaned against the door to catch your breath.
Adrenaline was pumping through you, your heart rate through the roof as you closed your eyes to try and calm yourself. You could see why Eric liked doing this so much. You weren’t scared by any means. Rather you were thrilled. The surge of fear had turned into excitement. You had so much energy that you wanted to do all of it again.
“Look!” Eric said excitedly.
You opened your eyes at his exclamation. You followed his gaze and felt a smile come to your face. There in the room was the King’s crown protected by a glass case. The small light shining down on the glass sent a sliver of light towards the pretty blue pendant jewel on the top of the King’s crown. The jewel reflected its own path of light, causing a blue marbled type shadow to cast itself across the wall. You moved from the door to the glass case, laying your hands on top of it.
There was a little lock on the case to keep the crown locked in. You knew the key was not in this room, and in your excitement panic started to set in. How were you supposed to get the crown?
You felt a hand in your hair that pulled you from your thoughts as the hand was now in your vision.
“Will this work?” Eric asked, holding the bobby pin you had previously picked the front gate with.
You smiled at the boy, taking the pin from him. Eric winked as you began to pick at the lock.
“They’re in here!” You heard from outside the door as you jumped from the yell.
Eric ran to the door putting weight on it to keep it closed as long as possible as you kept picking the lock. Frustration began to filter through you over the fact that you couldn’t get the lock picked. As your frustration bubbled over, a loud crash hit outside the door, sending Eric flying to the ground. You picked up the case, throwing the glass to the ground as it shattered around you. Eric picked himself up as he grabbed the crown. That mischievous look he had when he first told you about himself came back as he handed it to you.
You took the crown from him, looking over it as he pushed you towards the window. A large crack resonated through the room as you both jumped. One of the doors broke open, giving way to a bunch of guards as Eric quickly pushed the window open. You looked back at him, realizing he was going to give himself up so you could get free.
“Wait, Eric!” You yelled.
The boy continued to push you to the window. He helped you out of it as he spoke. “You have the crown. Get back to where I found you and you’ll win.”
You looked at him, grabbing his hand as he went to pull away. “What about you?”
The urgency in your voice made the boy smile, and he did something completely out of character. Eric leaned out the window to peck your cheek as he spoke.
“Don’t worry about me.”
He pulled his hand from yours as he gave you that signature smile. Lifting himself back into the window, he pushed you the rest of the way out before slamming it shut. You hit the ground with a grunt as you looked back up at the window. Eric mouthed to you as you stood.
“Go!”
You stood up, seeing the garden house in the distance as you ran in that direction. It sounded like the castle doors had opened as you fell into a full on sprint. When you got closer to the garden house you noticed the front gate, still unlocked from when you had previously entered. You looked back towards the window before letting your feet carry you to the gate. The sounds from the front doors of the castle were beginning to get louder, signaling to you that whoever was outside was getting closer. You slipped through the gate, running down the path. You continued to run until your legs couldn’t carry you anymore before stopping in front of the tree that you were certain was where you had fallen into the game from.
Placing your hands on your knees, you leaned down to catch your breath. Not knowing what to do next, you looked around hoping for some sort of exit.
“Come on! I beat the stupid game. See?” You lifted the crown up towards the sky, beginning to get angry.
“I did it. I beat it! What more do you want?” You yelled.
You kept the crown above your head, looking up at the dark sky that did nothing before lowering it. Dropping your head, you looked around once more before noticing a light coming towards you. There was no person behind it, just the light itself. Bringing your hands up to your eyes to shield yourself, you looked as best you could at the light. The room felt like it was shifting before you were pushed.
“Hey!” A voice said from behind you.
You’d recognize it anywhere as you stepped back.
“Mom’s been looking for you.” Your little brother told you.
Looking at him, you nodded as he rolled his eyes, heading out of the small room you were in. You watched him before looking down at your hands. You were in the arcade. In the back room. Your jacket was still on the floor, now covered in dirt and dust from being pushed around. You brought your attention back to the game. A little bubble screen had popped up.
“Congratulations! You helped the thief snatch the crown and evade the guards. Your time was five minutes and thirty-eight seconds. See how your time stacks up to other players.” You read.
The screen gave way to an option to look at the previous scores as you looked back at your time.
“Five minutes? I was only in there for five minutes? It felt so long.”
You moved your hands from the game as you headed for the door. Bending down to pick up your jacket, you looked back once more at the game before walking out.
It had been about a week since you pretty much entered a video game, and the more you played it over in your head the more it seemed like you just fell and hit your head really hard in that room. You knew you had to put it behind you with it being your first day of school, but you couldn’t stop thinking about Eric.
As you parked your car, your friend Sunwoo stood outside the school entrance with another boy. You couldn’t see his face, but you were sure you didn’t know him. He had purple hair with different pastel highlights colored throughout it. Sunwoo spotted you as he waved.
“There you are! Thought you might be late on the first day.”
You could only give the boy the finger as you got closer.
“I made a new friend! He’s new!” Sunwoo yelled.
As you got closer, the boy turned around and you dropped everything in your hands.
“Eric?” You asked.
The boy raised his eyebrows at you as he looked at you then Sunwoo.
“Uh, no. My name is Youngjae.” The boy said.
He was a spitting image of Eric, with the same tone of voice and cadence in the way he talked. Both boys walked down the steps to help you pick your things up.
“I, I’m sorry. You just look strangely like someone I met towards the end of the summer.” You told him.
He smiled at you, giving you a wink. “No problem.”
Sunwoo chuckled, noticing the looks you two were giving each other as he shook his head.
“And yet again, I’ll be third wheeling.” He said as he watched the two of you talk, almost as if you had known each other for a really long time.

~
Title: A Contract Deal
Pairing: Taehyun x gender neutral!reader
Word count: 1.2k
Warnings: mentions of death
~
“Your Highness.”
Truth be told, Taehyun almost doesn’t recognize the voice when it comes. He’s rarely heard you speak - only the requisite greetings to his parents, a few whispered conversations with your family, a couple of words exchanged with your servants. Only twice have you spoken with him, each time never more than a few sentences, at that.
But then he turns around, and he remembers. Right. Yes. That vaguely familiar voice belongs to you, his betrothed.
Not exactly the person he wants to see most right now.
But Taehyun was raised with manners, and like it as not, it’s not your fault the two of you ended up in this situation. You’re only pieces on the chessboard of the grand game of politics, your marriage arranged by the players, your parents. He turns fully to give you his attention, schooling his features back into a neutral smile.
You don’t smile back.
“Your Highness,” he replies, inclining his head. “Was there something you wished to tell me?”
For one moment, two, you only look at him steadily. Something dark and anxious flits across your gaze, and Taehyun wonders just what it is you need him for that you couldn’t hide your worry about it behind your usual cool, placid mask.
Finally, you press your lips together firmly, still looking at him head on. “Is there someplace private where we could speak?” you ask. “I have some things I would like to ask you.”
. . . . .
Once in the empty gardens, after the two of you have asked your guards to step away, Taehyun gives you his full attention. “What is it you wanted to ask?”
Your fingers twist tightly into each other, though your expression has regained its usual mask-like pleasance. You are quite beautiful, Taehyun thinks. The moonlight shining down on your figure sets a subtle glow on your face, one that he thinks he could’ve found quite attractive if you weren’t in the situation you are now.
His stomach twists. If only.
“I heard you speaking to His and Her Majesty earlier,” you say quietly. “I understand you don’t wish to marry me.”
Taehyun blinks. When would you have heard -
Oh.
If he weren’t so well-versed in maintaining a straight face, Taehyun thinks he would have cursed. Just his luck that you somehow heard the argument he had with his parents this morning, the one where he told them on no account would he marry the royal of their choosing because he was done with them trying to control every moment of his life. He doesn’t regret the statement - he still means it - but despite himself and all his training in manners, Taehyun colors in embarrassment. He hadn’t thought anyone other than his mother and father would have heard that conversation.
“I don’t blame you,” you add quickly. “It’s not as if anyone wouldn’t have qualms about marrying a complete stranger.”
Taehyun’s face still feels hot even after your assurance. “What does that have to do with the matter at hand?”
You take a deep breath. Your tightly twisted hands hover for a moment before dropping to your sides. “I’ve come to ask that you put a hold on whatever plans you have for stopping this marriage.”
It takes a minute for him to understand your request. You just said you didn’t blame him for not wanting to marry you, but - “You want to go through with this marriage,” Taehyun says, still half in disbelief.
“Yes.” A shadow passes over your face. “Please, hear my reasons first.”
In silence, Taehyun listens to your story. Parents who always regarded you from a stony distance, who saw you as just a possible replacement should anything happen to your older sister, the first in line for the throne. An older sister who hated you for seemingly no reason, or at least none that you could identify. Assassination attempts that started when you were thirteen, poisoned wine and hidden knives and people finding their way in through your window at night -
The realization that it was your sister who was behind the attempts, for reasons you still don't understand.
“I don’t know why she’s doing it,” you say quietly. “Our sages have already proclaimed that the stars shone on her birth and that she would certainly be the next ruler of our land. It’s not as if I pose any sort of threat to her throne - it’s hers, I’ve known that all my life. I don’t care.” Swallowing hard, you look him in the eye. “But I - enough people have died or been injured trying to save me, and I myself will most certainly die if I stay there. I need a way out.”
And you are my way out.
You don’t say the words out loud, but Taehyun knows that’s what you mean. Suddenly, he feels a little dizzy. How can he be a lifeline for someone who doesn’t even know him?
“You can divorce me after a year,” you say. “After that I’ll just - disappear. Hide. My reputation doesn’t matter if I’m going to run, you can make up whatever excuse you want. But my sister doesn’t know this kingdom, and I need time to make a plan. All I ask, Your Highness, is that we remain together long enough for me to make that plan. I will not ask for more than a year.”
Taehyun takes a deep breath. “How can you be sure she won’t target you here?”
“I can’t,” you reply immediately. “But during the entire month-long trip here and in the two weeks that I have been at the palace, I have not been targeted once.” You swallow. “I would like to take this as a good sign.”
Mind reeling, Taehyun tries to think. Right now, you see him as some sort of lifeline from which to hang, just out of reach of your sister’s jaws. You say that you will leave, you just need time - but he didn't want the mess of marriage in the first place, and now he will have to combine that with the mess of divorce -
But he also can’t just leave you to die.
“I understand I’ve asked a lot of you,” you say quietly, cutting into his thoughts. “It’s all right if you say no.”
Ironically, that’s what settles the matter in Taehyun’s mind.
“I’ll do it,” he says. Your head snaps up, eyes wide, but he isn’t finished. “On the condition that you will disappear within one year of our wedding date.”
“Of course,” you breathe. “Of course. I -” You swallow, and suddenly your eyes look shiny. “Thank you, Your Highness.”
Taehyun smiles uncomfortably as you bow your head. “You’re welcome,” he replies, trying not to listen to the voice in his head that’s telling him all of this will eventually go very, very wrong.

𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐢𝐧
prince!ji changmin x f!reader (slight juyeon x reader)
1.0k words, my emotional support royalty au, high-key historical au, lots of not-dialogue, literally i don't think swan song will ever fully see the light of day but i love it a little too much to keep her buried
a/n: this is serpent & dove's partner,, except i set the stage for a villain arc bc who doesn't love a villain arc
Tumblr media
The moment Ji Changmin stopped wishing to be a part of the family was the one wherein you made your debut into society. There were rules to the royal court, rules that Changmin had long since been schooled in. There were boxes he was placed within, boundaries he was not meant to cross, but there were few invisible, unspoken hierarchies that were always enforced that he had to pick out on his own.
He was only eighteen when he found your familiar eyes, shining in glazed-over discomfort, as you curtsied low at the top of the stairs and made your descent. An official had announced your arrival at the door, and he already spied the dance card dangling from your wrist.
Unspoken Rule One: Bastard children never got first pick.
The main ballroom of the palace was decorated immaculately for this year's debutante ball. Heavy silks embroidered in fine, gold thread were draped from the crystalline window panes; the chandeliers glistened with beads of light like fiery embers; the dance floor was polished and his suit was tight. He couldn't remember tying his tie on so tightly, but the way you looked tonight made him want to break form and loosen the grip of his collar around his neck.
He had never seen you in such tightly laced garb, and he had never seen you so nervous. You, Yn Ln, beloved middle child of the phoenix-represented Ln family—the phoenix a symbol of how generations of your family long ago had risen from the ashes of destitution to the mighty lordship of its current day and age. Your good name automatically thrust you into the limelight, whether you liked it or not.
You were eighteen years old, same as Changmin. You had asked your handmaiden to lace your corset up a little tighter, opting for the one that was made specifically for occasions such as these. It had not been your choice to don the dark, blood red brocade for tonight's festivities—it had been your mother's. You hadn't realized your family even cared to show off their middle child, but you supposed if they could ship you off as quickly as possible, it would be one less daughter to pay attention to.
Unspoken Rule Two: Daughters never got to choose.
It was difficult to not meet his eyes—the pair that you recognized so easily from the academy. The pair you often found yourself staring into as they laughed, as they pondered, as they brooded. He was beautiful, the kind of strong that wasn't brutish, but softer. He was a snake amongst wolves, perhaps the predator that no one ever saw coming.
Your dance card was empty, but his name seared itself into each slot, stealing away each dance like he had stolen a bit of you after all this time. (Or maybe all of you. You wouldn't have minded if that were the case.)
It wouldn't have been appropriate if he left his place from the dais first. It definitely would not have been appropriate if he had left the dais before every other girl was introduced. The room was full of chaperones and young men eyeing their prospects as they filed in, one by one.
(A room of hungry wolves encasing the pack of sheep who had waltzed in, bedazzled and smiling.)
You knew the game though, and you figured two negatives would have to make a positive. Right? That was how it could work. That was the loophole you and Changmin had concocted all those late nights spent in the academy library, tucked away in the corner of the myths and legends aisle, huddled together, conspiring a way to come out of this alive.
Not just alive, but together.
Unspoken Rule Three: Watch out for the wolves.
You were already on your way toward his side of the dais. The half prince was beautiful, but he was only second in line. He had half the blood of royalty; how many would seek him out first?
And there was a spike of hope in your heart. It singed through your glazed expression and made the corners of your cherry-stained lips turn upward in that sickening feeling of hope.
Eyes pinned to the other, you could see the glee in his own expression. It was going to work. This would work how you'd planned, how you'd hoped, how you'd schemed and mapped. You two knew the food chain better than anyone else—it simply had to.
But the room fell quiet as a form stepped before you, blocking your view of the second prince. He was just as beautiful as his half brother, the gold crown seated upon his raven locks a beacon of pride and power. He had kind eyes, a pair you weren't as familiar with, but knew well enough. His suit was tailored perfectly to his body, his smile gracious and almost shy.
"Lady Yn," Crown Prince Juyeon said to you as you dropped into a curtsey and he, a bow, "may I have the honor of stealing your first dance?"
The room was silent. You swore your heart beat thundered against the golden walls of the ballroom.
You couldn't say no. Not to the crown prince. Not in front of everyone.
Perhaps there were things you and Changmin hadn't taken into account.
Unspoken Rule Four: The Crown Prince always gets what he wants.
By some miracle, you found your voice and fitted your quivering, gloved hand into his. "Of course, Your Royal Highness. It would be my honor."
And as Prince Juyeon led you to the polished marble dance floor, you stole a glance behind you at the dais. The second prince stood frozen on his platform, his form never having broken. But in the split second you looked back at him, you couldn't mistake the flash of a promise in those dark eyes you'd fallen so deeply into all these years.
It was a promise… at least, that was what you had thought, as you plastered a smile on your face and let Juyeon lead you through dance after dance. But you should have known better than to think so little of Ji Changmin.

currents.27/2023
selections from my week in media [2-8 july 2023]
Tumblr media
[anticipating]
Red White and Royal Blue movie - The book it’s based on is one of my favorite contemporary romances in recent years, so I’m hopeful the movie will capture everything I loved about the book. And if it does well enough, maybe we’ll get more queer movies based on books, romcoms or otherwise.
[listening]
Delicious / The Boyz
Small Talk / Kim Sung Kyu
[reading]
breathe into me (make me real) by Leahelisabeth (fortheloveofcamelot) - MDZS modern AU w/magic - author summary: A-Yuan finds a stuffed toy on his way from school, but there is more to this toy than meets the eye.
[watching]
Be Mine Superstar - I really like the setup, so I went ahead and watched the first episode. I’m not loving the ‘obsessed fan’ half of the lead couple though, so I’ll probably watch one or two more before I decide whether to drop it.
Fireworks of My Heart - The Yang Yang-led firefighter drama started this week. So far, his character has had more chemistry with his work husband (who of course is no longer around) than the female lead.
King the Land - It delivers two hours of kicky-feet joy every week. Gu won and Sa-rang are both completely ridiculous and I adore them.
La Pluie - Really loved the episode this week. Some growth, a much needed family conversation, plus me and the show being on the same wavelength re Lomfon.
Nimona - All the stars. The animation is stunning (HOW did they do the metal effect?!) and the story is beautiful.
Shigatsu no Tokyo wa (Tokyo in April is) - I’m glad I kept watching because it’s still getting better. This week we got more of their back story, from Ren’s perspective this time, and oh it hurt. But we also got Kazuma and Ren being very domestic in the present, which provided much needed balance. I am just really loving how the story is being told in general.
Skull Island - The characters are what made this show for me. Blunt and snarky all around. I hope they are able to make a season two with the same team.
Step By Step - Final episode. The kitchen reconciliation scene was great, and the following domesticness was also good. But honestly, the highlight of the episode was seeing Chot, Ae, and Put as Pat’s friend group. Supportive friends are the best and there have been some great ones in BL land lately (see La Pluie).

STABLE BOY'S MASTERLIST
@juhaktheoneforme i know this is crappy and the series won't continue until i pick up the motivation, but here's the introduction for the royal au!! hopefully this would feed your haknyeon needs
Tumblr media
Your friendship with Haknyeon blossomed when you were around the age of six. Your parents both agreed that taking horseback riding lessons at a young age would be beneficial for an upcoming ruler of the kingdom, and that’s how you were met with Haknyeon and his father.
Mr. Ju and his ancestors were a trustworthy group of people to the royals, so your parents sent you off to his farm every summer for lessons.
Horseback riding started out rough. In no way was Mr. Ju to blame as he was a very patient and wonderful teacher. You were just too short and unable to keep a hold of the horse while atop.
Haknyeon was a few years older and therefore was very experienced compared to you. He would always be dragged along when lessons took place out in the open field and rode around on his horse freely. He’d occasionally watch your lessons, letting out a few inappropriate laughs when you weren’t able to do certain things. Though, there have been times when he has helped you out without his father knowing. You’d blush, embarrassed that Haknyeon helped cheat you onto the saddle, but you both would keep silent when Mr. Ju brought his focus back to you.
As years passed, you would always look forward to visiting during the summers. Your father often restricted you to the castle, leaving you with your governess when it came to your studies. If you ever wanted to visit the townspeople or explore, your father would assign guards to escort you. Sometimes you’d attend events or stay with your parents during court, but otherwise you never did much else. Your mother would sometimes accompany you in your chamber and invite you to join her in the royal garden, but you’d often decline, not willing to look at the same blossoming flowers for the fifth time that week.
That’s when she’d pull you aside on your bed and tell you a few stories about her life before becoming queen. Unlike your father, she wasn’t of royal descent. She grew up just like everyone else, selling fruit during the market time. That’s how she met your father, actually.
He was a teenager when he roamed the streets, sneaking away from the vicinity of the castle to meet new people. It was love at first sight, some may say, and they both fought to get where they are now. The thought of your father being king was looked down upon by the townspeople but was soon later accepted that he would be a wonderful leader. Now he’d often leave the castle to help the people in his kingdom, which left you and your mother alone in the vacancy of the castle.
Your mother was more carefree with the lack of his presence but still abided by her husband’s rules even if he wasn’t around. Your mother didn’t mind it as much as you did, finding a lot of her peace and quiet in the gardens. Either that or she’d visit her family in the village.
So that’s why you found so much entertainment with Mr. Ju and his son. When you were with the two, they didn’t just give you lessons but showed you around the farm. There was even a baby pig that Haknyeon had named after you, letting you cradle her in your arms. You’ve grown to love the farm life more than the royal one you were destined with, finding animals way more interesting than the balls the royal court threw. Haknyeon was an only child but was the happiest boy ever even with just his father and the animals. Though, to his dismay, he would be lying if he said that he didn’t look forward to seeing you every summer as you truly made things way more interesting than usual. Seeing mud splattered onto the princess’s dress always made him cackle, and he enjoyed getting small slaps on his arm from you in return for doing so.
In the beginning, you seemed like a spoiled, annoying brat when you first arrived, whining and most certainly crying whenever the pony was brought into your view, making you out to be like any other stereotypical princess in the books he’s read. But just like every other kid, you were playful and teased him just as much as he teased you. The small dislike for you then progressed into something magical; something that made the most vital organ in his body run laps that even his horse wouldn’t be able to run, but he didn’t think much of it. You were the princess, and he was positive you made every other boy in the kingdom feel the exact same way.
Although that didn’t stop him from waking you up during the break of dawn, wanting to take a trip with you to the field on your horses. You’d sneak past a sleeping Mr. Ju and head to the stable, hopping onto the two horses and riding off into the woods. Down the rocky path, you and Haknyeon would make bets on who would reach the field first, but you were well aware that Haknyeon would win every time. By now, you were skilled enough to ride a horse without needing a helmet, but Haknyeon will forever be better. He and his horse had chemistry that even you couldn’t compete with, making them the fastest duo as they rode.
When you both reached the open field, you were hit with the sun rising, the sky slowly shifting to a warm shade of blue as you and Haknyeon messed around on your horses, playing a dangerous game of tag. You almost regretted not wearing a helmet, but Haknyeon was quick to swoop in, hopping off of his horse in order to calm down yours. You’d then be clinging onto your horse’s neck, body pressed up against it as you convinced yourself that you were okay. Haknyeon would laugh and stand by your side, holding onto your hand as if to reassure you.
Eventually all good things come to an end, and you’d have to make your way back through the woods. There would be instances where you weren’t caught by Mr. Ju, but when you were, Haknyeon would get scolded in secret, though you heard everything due to the thin walls. You felt a pang of guilt when you heard the yelling, hating the way his father would remind him of your position because it also reminded you in the process. It was dangerous for a young royal like you to roam off without parental supervision or a guard by your side, and Haknyeon was neither one of those. Though, Haknyeon often blocked out his father’s words, continuing to leave with you the next morning.
He was a mischievous boy indeed. He followed all orders from his father unless it came to spending time with you. You didn’t blame him because you wanted to spend just as much time together as he did.
One time he brought you into the forest to play hide and seek. While you were counting down, Haknyeon gently tugged on the leashes connected to the horses’ halters and led them out of the woods, leaving you behind. But he could only do so for a few minutes before returning to retrieve you because he felt bad over the fact he left a royal in the woods.
You were extremely close with both Mr. Ju and Haknyeon, but they still addressed you as your highness, keeping as formal as possible. It was a habit for Haknyeon that you had tried to break on multiple occasions, but he never listened. Regardless, they treated you like family.
One year, word came that Mr. Ju had passed away after catching an incurable disease, and Haknyeon was unable to keep the farm due to his age. He was now an orphan, as his mother left way before Haknyeon was able to hop onto a horse. It was a dark time, and your family welcomed him with open arms. You sat with your mother in the carriage as you made your way over to pick him up.
Your mother told you that Haknyeon wouldn’t be able to keep any of the animals left on the farm. He wouldn’t have his horse and nor would he have the pig he named after you. The only animal that could be retrieved was your own horse, Mistveil. Because of this, you requested a separate stable to be built for your horse, one that resided next to the stables that held all the horses for the royal family and guards. This also gave Haknyeon a job as a stable boy, already used to tending Mistveil from years prior.
Unfortunately, he couldn’t have a place within the castle. There was plenty of room, but it would be unlawful to have a nonroyal living inside. You wished to give him a chamber and the finest clothes, especially after losing both of his parents, but all your efforts weren’t enough. Your father did offer him a place in the village, but it was too far from the castle and he wouldn’t be able to make it here in time in order to tend your horse, so Haknyeon ended up spending his nights in the stable.
He didn’t mind, really. He was the farmer’s little boy, after all. A stack of hay was what he would sleep on, and he would take trips to the market every once in a while for a fresh set of clothing and food. He was paid just like any other stablehand that worked for the royal family but wasn’t able to interact much with the others since he was much younger and placed in a separate stable.
You wanted to visit your best friend on his first day on the job, but after his loss, you decided that it would be best to give him some time. Mr. Ju’s loss was both hard on not only his son, but you and your family as well. Before you and Haknyeon were even born, your father often frequented him and his wife on the farm.
After a few weeks, you believed it was time to stop by. Sure, you missed Haknyeon, but you also missed your horse. The loss of Mr. Ju could never be a blessing, but having both of your best friends near the castle made you feel a bit better about the situation given. Seeing them only during the summer was painful, but now the field you played on and the farm filled with the lively animals that Haknyeon has taught you to love are long gone.
Upon entering the stable, you found Haknyeon scrubbing away at your horse in the stall. You could see his lips moving and assumed he was talking to your horse. The idea made the corners of your lips curl up in the slightest, wondering about what he would talk about. You couldn’t tease him much about it since one, he lost his own horse, and two, you talked with Mistveil whenever you could as well.
You were sure you saw his lips whisper an ‘I miss her’, but you didn’t focus on it as much as you did on his downturned facial features. His dull eyes spoke for itself, broken after losing all that he treasured in his life. His father, his horse, the farm, the woods and the field; basically everything that mattered most. He also felt like he lost himself in the process.
He pretty much lost you too considering it’d be harder to spend time together. Despite being meters apart, he knew you had your duties as a princess, and he’d be stuck here in the stable with your horse. That’s what led him to having countless of conversations with Mistveil, talking about anything and almost everything.
He always did this with his own horse when people weren’t looking, not liking to be judged. Haknyeon was one to believe that baby-talking to an animal was weird, but he’s the one who did it most behind closed doors.
Before your heart could be torn apart in your chest, you cleared your throat in order to garner his attention. “You really should’ve taken that offer to have your own place in the village.”
Upon hearing your voice, Haknyeon immediately halted what he was doing, a mixture of shock and happiness expressed on his features. He dropped the sponge into the bucket of water and stood up almost instantly, giving you a small bow. “Your highness.”
You chuckled, making your way inside while carrying a folded blanket in your arms, looking around the stable. This was your first time being inside ever since it had been built.
“I’d imagine it’d be quite cold here in the stable during the winter,” you commented.
He laughed and shook his head, picking up the bucket of water. “I lived on a farm, your highness,” he reasoned. “It surely can’t get any worse than that, especially since it would grow to be very cold during the winter.”
You knew he wasn’t wrong. Despite only staying during the summer, there have been times when you and your parents visited the farm throughout the year. Although it was very rare, there have been instances when they gave into your begging, taking you there to stay for a few nights. You remembered one night Haknyeon had slipped past your parents to take you out of the house and to the barn, messing around with the animals late during the night until you both knocked out onto the hay. As much as you had fun and shared many fits of giggles, you remembered suffering greatly within the barn, it being no warmer inside than it was outside.
You rolled your eyes at him, a small habit you had developed whenever you were around the fellow farmer boy. When Haknyeon exited the stall, you approached him with the blanket, handing it to him. “Thank you for watching over Mistveil for me.” When the blanket was removed from your arms with a small bow from his head, you joined your horse in her stall, running your fingers through her mane as she perked up at your presence.
If you remembered correctly, Mistveil was an Appaloosa, the white horse being sprinkled with brown spots all over. You rested your forehead against her neck, eyes falling shut.
“The pleasure is all mine,” Haknyeon hummed, setting the blanket on top of the pile of hay and placed the bucket down right beside it. He then sat on top of the blanket with a sigh, watching you with a growing smile. He admired the way you were with Mistveil. He knew you loved your horse just as much as Haknyeon loved his, both pairs sharing unforgettable memories down by the field. It did hurt to know that Haknyeon would never be able to see his own horse again, but he came to terms that he’ll be okay. He still had you and your horse, but it was just hard to believe that this would be his life from now on.
He stood up from his spot after giving you some time with your horse, reaching over for a dry cloth to toss at your head. “She’s still wet, by the way,” he informed.
You glared at him, removing the cloth from your head. He laughed, noticing the way it had made your baby hairs stick out. With a huff, you started drying your horse, muttering about how you were a princess and shouldn’t be treated this way, but he’s heard this enough from you. It was just you messing around, and he knew you meant nothing with it. If you had, you would’ve done something about it, like perhaps demand for his head to be removed.
Or something like that.
Haknyeon stood by the gate of the stall, arms crossed over his chest as he examined your movements. You were a bit flustered with the given attention, but you still acted like Haknyeon was nowhere to be found as you dried your horse.
“You do love her, don’t you?”
You scoffed, not daring to have your eyes meet his. “That’s a silly question, Haknyeon. Of course I do.” You moved to get on the other side of your horse, drying her there as well. “She’s been with me since the very beginning, remember?” Out of all the horses that were on the farm, Mr. Ju insisted that Mistveil would’ve been the perfect pony for you. You disagreed after the first few days you’ve spent with her, more often than not falling off of her back due to how much she hated you being on top. Eventually, you both matured as time passed and grew an unbreakable bond.
You stopped what you were doing to turn to look at Haknyeon, tilting your head. “You know, as my best friend for, how many years now? Thirteen? I would assume you’d know about my love for my own horse.”
Haknyeon shrugged and pushed himself off the gate, reaching down to pick up another dry cloth to help you out. “I mean, I have spent more time with her than you have, your highness.”
“That doesn’t mean I can’t love her with my entire being, now does it?” you muttered, pressing your lips together as Haknyeon stood beside you.
“That wasn’t what I was implying. I’m just saying, perhaps, she loves me more than you.”
You gasped loudly at his claim, pushing the stable boy away from you and your horse. “That is very bold of you to say!”
Haknyeon stumbled back but caught himself before he could fall, stunned by the action but ended up laughing, a sense of nostalgia hitting him right in the gut. He gazed at you for a few seconds in silence before speaking, his tone being lighthearted. “You are terrible, your highness, you know that?”
“I just have immense love for my horse is all,” you humphed, defending yourself. Without thinking twice, you stuck your tongue out at the boy, something deemed improper for a royal to do.
“Whatever the princess says,” he sighed, tossing his second cloth at you, this time aiming for your face.

A/N : this was genuinely supposed to be a oneshot, but i found no motivation after writing this introduction, so why not post it and make it a series? i've never written a royal au, so this is completely new to me, but there's a first time for everything
i don't know when i'll pick this up, especially since i practically wrote this a month ago, but i surely will later on in the year

Captivate. Silently, I captivate you.
Spine ramrod straight. Chin tilted upward to create the perfect illusion of high esteem. Hands folded in front of you in an oh-so-calculated effort to appear as if this all comes naturally.
Years of practice have led up to this moment, and many others to follow if—No. When—you are accepted into this glorified peacocking contest.
The current royal leader of the twenty kingdoms, a man known to the public only as The King, sits on his throne, left hand cupping a glass of blood red wine.
His eyes scrutinize you and the other hopefuls that stand in the throne room with the exact same posture as you. The exact same way of pushing back their shoulders and holding their pride in the centers of their chests.
Only, you know for fact that you possess more tenacity than the whole of them combined. When the King’s eyes come to focus on you, you hold his gaze and one corner of your lips raises coyly.
It’s a challenge, a slight difference between you and the others who mostly avoid eye contact and go stiff under the royal gaze.
But not you. You aren’t here to bend to the will of anyone, to blend in, but to captivate. Take hold of the chin of anyone within sight and turn it explicitly in your direction. Without so much as raising a finger.
The King cocks his head a couple degrees to the right, mouth in the hard line it’s remained in since he started down the line of contestants. And then he grins, teeth showing as he lets out a small, amused chuckle.
He turns to a member of his council and murmurs something you can’t hear from where you stand, leading the woman to begin scribbling on her clipboard. Good or bad, you’ve made an impression. Kept the ruler’s eyes in your direction for longer than the others.
And you’ve won. You just know it.

It's me again 🙈💕
Is it possible to also get a Royalty AU ship with The Boyz, please?
Tumblr media
@just-a-random-shawol Welcome back darling, here you are.
Royal AU with LEE JUYEON
Tumblr media
pretty sure we shipped you with Juyeon every time but we think you guys would just work so well together. anyways back to the AU.
Rivals to lovers:
Imagine being the heir to the throne, the fierce princess that will make a strong queen once you take over.
Juyeon is the crown Prince of a neighboring territory that you have high tensions with.
Always in disagreements over land and wealth. You've never met the royal family there but you were raised to despise them and what they've done.
Before you can be crowned both territories come together to form an alliance.
You and Juyeon are set to marry and rule together as a makeshift peace treaty.
You hate the idea
He doesn't like it either but he's willing to do what is necessary
You try to argue but the deal is set
You avoid him as much as humanly possible
When you have to interact you guys are respectful but there is a clear tension between you.
Juyeon is the first one who tries to break the tension between you
He finds you fascinating and wants to try to at least be friends
You're not like the other girls that attempted to court him and he likes that
His attempts at getting you to open up fail miserably at first
You start to wonder if he's just messing with you
Slowly but surely he shows you his true self and you start to come out of your shell more
You realize he's not as serious and collected as he makes himself out to be
He's really sweet and a bit too naive for his own good sometimes
You have to admit it's pretty cute
Your marriage forms into a friendship and gradually turns into true love
You two balance each other out nicely
He's not smothering and allows you to have your freedom when you need it but is always there for you
Subtle jokes and teasing each other becomes a regular occurrence
You two rule well and end up very happy together
Sure you weren't too happy about being forced to marry someone you didn't know. But now you were also thankful that it gave you a chance to get closer to someone who will always love and make you happy.

Experimenting with the format of au ships a bit so you guys will have to tell me which you prefer!
We hope you like it!
All of our ships are closed and will start to reopen next week!
