Noah Sandborn NSFW Alphabet
word count: 1.9k
a/n: i know he isn't one of the people I usually write for, but I could not turn down this request!! he's just so pretty, and crazy, and possessive<3 enjoy!
warnings: possessive/stalker behaviour, smut (obviously lol), no use of y/n, fem!reader, plus size!reader, race inclusive!reader
A = Aftercare (what theyâre like after sex)
This man will. not. let. you. go. Heâs fucking clinging to you and telling you how much he loves you and how good you felt. I feel like itâs not so much aftercare as it is him reassuring himself that youâre not going to leave him, but Iâd say it still counts because it helps calm you down and lull you to sleep.Â
B = Body part (their favorite body part of theirs and also their partnerâs)
We all saw that scene, right? This man is OBSESSED with your tits, and heâs his happiest when heâs looking at/touching/kissing them<3 A close second is your soft belly, because of how much it makes you squirm when heâs pressing hot kisses down the valley of your breasts, to your tummy, and finally to your core. Â
C = Cum (anything to do with cum, basically)
Heâs so obsessed with the idea of having you as his little housewife, but I just donât see him being overly in love with the idea of kids. Even then, kids getting you pregnant would be the ultimate way to ensure you donât leave him, so most times heâs definitely waiting too long to pull out. âSorry, baby. You just feel so good.â heâd whisper in a feigned guilty tone, although his eyes are glued to the way his cum drips out of you.
D = Dirty secret (pretty self explanatory, a dirty secret of theirs)
panty stealerđ«”đ»panty stealerđ«”đ»
This man is a fucking creep (affectionate), and before, or even after he had you the first time, you would definitely notice some of your prettier panties going missing. At first, maybe before he finally had you sprawled out on his bed, youâd notice some are missing, and youâd begin to think that the washer is eating them. Then, when youâre leaving his house the morning after your first time, you donât find your panties in the spot youâre sure you saw him throw them, and that's when you begin to put the pieces together.Â
E = Experience (how experienced are they? do they know what theyâre doing?)
I think he tends to wait for the right person, although heâs definitely had his fair share of one night stands that just werenât special enough. Not as special as you. Heâs not inexperienced, but heâs also not super experienced. But what he lacks in experience, he makes up for with his pure desperation to please.Â
F = Favorite position (this goes without saying)
Missionary. He may be a little crazy (again, affectionate), but I donât think heâs especially freaky in terms of postions, especially because he wants a normal life with you more than anything else. He would definitely do any position you ask of him, desperate to have you stay with him, but if he could choose, heâd make sure his view of your chest and belly are never restricted. Also, he would definitely make sure youâre comfortably laid out on the bed before heâs burying himself to the hilt (if he can hold himself back that long lol).
G = Goofy (are they more serious in the moment? are they humorous? etc.)
Heâs so fucking serious in the moment omg. Heâs fucking whiny and desperate for you, and his mind is so clouded by thoughts of you that any resemblance of a tease or joke dies on his lips before he can say them.
H = Hair (how well groomed are they? does the carpet match the drapes? etc.)
I think he keeps it pretty neatly trimmed; trying to be perfect for you. I think he prefers his partner to do the same. He doesnât necessarily prefer it completely bare, but keeping it nice and trimmed for him makes him feel good.
I = Intimacy (how are they during the moment? the romantic aspect)
If itâs planned, heâs romantic as FUCK. Rose petals, candles, wine. Everything is perfectly planned. If itâs unplanned, however, he needs you so badly that he doesnât notice anything else but you. He IS complimenting you and worshipping you the entire time, though, so I think that counts.
J = Jack off (masturbation headcanon)
Heâs definitely not opposed to it; he canât have you every minute of every day, after all. And it's so odd that your window happens to be right across from his, giving him a perfect view of you when his hand is stroking his leaking cock. This is especially useful when youâre alone late at night, and he has the chance to get off while watching you get off. Nothing turns him on more than just you existing, completely unaware ignoring his wandering eyes.Â
K = Kink (one or more of their kinks)
Praise: He loves to praise you; he loves the way your face lights up when he does it in, or out of the bedroom. He praises you both with words and with touches; caressing your cheek or your neck, or any other part of your body that he can reach. He loves reminding you how much he loves your body and how good youâre being for him, especially after you do something wrong, and heâs finished correcting you. He loves receiving praise just as much, though. He loves to hear how good heâs doing, how much you need him, how big he is, how well heâs filling you up. The list goes on.Â
Predator/Prey: I think this goes along with the housewife idea I mentioned earlier; he loves the idea of cutting you off from everyone and having you depend solely on him. Because of this, he also sort of loves the idea of him having to chase you if you run away. âWhere are you going, sweetheart? You know Iâm the only one who can take care of you like you need, the only one that understands you. Come back to me baby, now.âÂ
L = Location (favorite places to do the do)
Heâs a possessive motherfucker, and therefore loves to see you sprawled across his bed, head on his pillow and pussy glistening as you await his aching cock. He loves when you throw your head back, hands gripping his sheets as you fall apart on his mouth or his fingers, and he especially loves it when your releases drip down your thighs and onto his bed.Â
M = Motivation (what turns them on, gets them going)
He loves the idea of coming home to you after a hard day, and having you cook for him. Acting like a little housewife is his wet dream. If heâs greeted with a soft smile from you and a delicious smell wafting into the entryway from the kitchen, he knows that by the time heâs ready to actually eat the food, itâll be either cold or burned. Heâd much rather have his perfect girl for dinner instead.Â
N = No (something they wouldnât do, turn offs)
He would absolutely not be into hurting you in the bedroom (unless you disobey him, of course, and his anger gets the best of him). But other than that, I donât think thereâs much he wouldnât do, although he doesnât really do anything crazy unless you ask.Â
O = Oral (preference in giving or receiving, skill, etc.)
Have I mentioned lately how much he wants to please you and make you stay with him? Because of that, he definitely presents as more of a giver; if given the choice, he would happily choose dipping his head between your thighs until youâre cumming on his tongue. When he uses his mouth on you, heâs greedy; desperate to feel your release on his tongue, and heâs never able to hold back from using his fingers when youâre close to the edge. As true as this is, he loves when you use your mouth on him. The sight, the sound, the feeling, the power? He loves it even more than having you squirming and bucking your hips against his face. His sadistic side comes out whenever you decide to get on your knees for him, and by the time heâs cumming hard down your throat, heâs roughly fucking your throat, eager to see you swallow his load. If he canât claim you by filling up your sweet pussy with his seed and getting you pregnant, heâll happily compromise by filling up your belly this way. It holds him over until he actually gets you pregnant.
P = Pace (are they fast and rough? slow and sensual? etc.)
I think for the most part heâs more slow and sensual, although when he gets closer and closer to the edge, his pace gets faster and sloppy. I think heâd be rough when heâs upset with you, as he prefers that than actually getting violent with you for not doing what he says outside of the bedroom, but it would very rarely get too rough. At the end of the day, youâre still his beautiful girl, and he needs you with him always.
Q = Quickie (their opinions on quickies, how often, etc.)
He loves a good quickie. This man will never turn down any opportunity to have you, and if youâre both busy, heâll have you bent over the nearest surface so he can feel you. Of course heâd rather be able to take his time with you, but he could never ever turn you down. Â
R = Risk (are they game to experiment? do they take risks? etc.)
Heâll experiment if you really want to, but for the most part he wonât deviate from what he knows. In terms of risking getting caught, absolutely not. Youâre for his eyes only, and he wouldnât want to go through the hassle of having to kill a man for seeing your pretty body. His pretty body.
S = Stamina (how many rounds can they go for? how long do they last?)
I kinda wanna says heâs fucking out after one, like heâs cuddling up with you, and heâs asleep before he can even think about going another round. But sometimes, if he has to teach you a lesson for making him jealous/not listening to him, he has you cumming at least 3 times before he even thinks about slipping his cock into your dripping cunt.Â
T = Toys (do they own toys? do they use them? on a partner or themselves?)
I donât think heâd be particularly interested in toys, and to be honest, I think he would see them negatively at first. âDo I not make you feel good, sweetheart? Am I not good enough?â I think after some convincing, heâd be most interested in a cock ring, because while it gives both of you pleasure, itâs something targeted towards his pleasure, and he wouldnât see it as something to compete with.Â
U = Unfair (how much they like to tease)
He loves to tease you; it proves to him that you want him just as bed, but he can never keep it up for long. Heâd be giving you less than innocent touches, and whispering just-innocent-enough things in your ear, which makes you bite your lip and squeeze your legs together. As soon as he sees how worked up you get, though, heâd be pushing you against the nearest service and ripping your clothes off.Â
V = Volume (how loud they are, what sounds they make, etc.)
HEâS SO GODDAMN LOUD!! Heâs so whiny, and he moans in your ear so much!! Heâs so caught up in your tightness, and the way you clench around him that he canât fight back the moans and whines escaping his lips, whispers of praise slipping out between moans too.Â
W = Wild card (a random headcanon for the character)
I headcanon that while he doesnât like to hurt you, his one exception is when heâs taking you from behind. He doesnât know what comes over him, but his hand is going to your hair, tugging the roots hard as he increases the pace of his thrusts. He loves the way you whine, a hint of pain mixed with your pleasure, and he canât help but smack your ass hard every now and then, too, just to hear the pain laced through your moans.
X = X-ray (letâs see whatâs going on under those clothes)
6 inches, slim. Grower, not a shower.Â
Y = Yearning (how high is their sex drive?)
I think his sex drive is pretty high, but heâs able to push it aside a lot of the time if the situation isnât right. If it were up to him, heâd have you at least once a day, but if something comes up, heâs able to push his desire to the side and focus on the other thing.Â
Z = Zzz (how quickly they fall asleep afterwards)
He can fall asleep very fucking quickly; his head between your breasts as he slowly drifts off to sleep. While he does take the time to pull you into his arms and praise you for a while, once his head hits your chest, heâs a fucking goner.

dead boy detectives reading list
with the show finally out i figured it was a great time to share my reading list again! check it out below the cut đ»â ïžđ
-
âł the sandman #25 (1991)
this is their first appearance!
đ the children's crusade (1993)/free country: a tale of the children's crusade (2015)
1. the children's crusade #1
(2. black orchid annual #1
3. animal man annual #1
4. swamp thing annual #7
5. doom patrol annual #2
6. arcana annual #1)
7. the children's crusade #2
alternatively you can just read free country. whether or not you read the annuals i recommend reading free country's middle chapter
!!! in place of the annuals there is an additional middle chapter that was created for the book "free country: a tale of the children's crusade" where it is placed between the two children's crusade issues. the boys don't actually appear in most of the annuals (they are in two panels of swamp thing and appear in doom patrol) and reading them isn't necessary but i figured i would include them as they are part of the story.
âïž winter's edge #3 (2000)
this is an anthology. their part is the 'books of magic: waiting for good dough' story starting on page 19
đŠâ⏠the sandman presents: the dead boy detectives (2001, 4 issues)
i believe the tv show's esther finch was partially based on this run's villain.
*
(they do have a part in 'death: at death's door' from 2003. it's short and really just a retelling of events from sandman #25 with some minor changes. the entirety of their appearance in death: at death's door is included at the end of the next comic im listing so i am not really adding the death: at death's door book to the list)
â ïž the dead boy detectives (2005, one-shot)
this book was made by jill thompson in a very cute manga-esque style
đ» ghosts (2012), time warp (2013), the witching hour (2013)
these three are anthologies. the story 'the dead boy detectives in: run ragged' runs through all of them. 'run ragged' kicks off the next run.
đź from the pages of the sandman: dead boy detectives (2013, 12 issues)
this is the comic where crystal is introduced! a book collecting all 12 issues titled 'dead boy detectives by toby litt & mark buckingham' was released in 2023
đthe sandman universe: dead boy detectives (2022, 6 issues)
the most recent run, centered around some really interesting thai mythology and featuring multiple edwin moments that i am sure you will love
-
and that's everything! i also recommend buying the omnibus if you can. it includes everything minus the 2022 run plus some additional bonus content!
i hope this is helpful! feel free to ask me any questions you may have about the comics. dead boy detectives is my number one interest so i should be able to answer
have fun reading! đ»

Can she continue playing the perfect wife and mother when temptation shows up at her front door?
Trigger Warnings: infidelity, drug use, sex and nudity.
Transcript under the cut
Nancy Narrates: [Geoffrey proposed our junior year of university. I said yes]

Geoffrey: Goinggg uuup!
Nancy: [laughs]
Nancy: [whispers] Hey, youâre not asleep, are you?
Geoffrey: [grumbles] Mâsorry. Too drunk for more, I think.
Nancy: [chuckles] Itâs fine. You can sleep.
Geoffrey: [sighs] Hey. I wanna have a buncha babies.
Nancy: Oh, so youâre really drunk then.
Geoffrey: Mâserious. Want 4 boys, 4 girls. All name Geoffrey Jr. and Nancy Jr. At least oneâs named is Zachary.
Nancy: Hey, listen here, lover boy. Letâs just enjoy this. Just you and me and us trying not to drown in the work my parents give us.
Geoffrey: And then babies?
Nancy: [hums] Maybe babies. Give me a year to think about it, ok?
Geoffrey: [sighs happily] I love you. My wife.
Nancy: I love you too.

Nancy Narrates: [And just like that, the high was over]
Geoffrey: Hey, Nance? Are you missing work again today? Your mom has been really... erm, Queenie-ish the past week with you being out. Iâm scared sheâs going to actually bite me. [chuckles nervously]
Nancy: Damn you, Geoffrey! What happened to a year? Itâs barely been 90 days!
Geoffrey: Wha-
Nancy: I should have known, you can barely pull out of the driveway properly!
Geoffrey: Wait, youâre pregnant?
Nancy: [scoffs] You donât sound very sorry about it!
Geoffrey: Youâre pregnant! Iâm going to be a dad?!
Geoffrey: [sings] Iâm your babyâs daaadddy!
Nancy: [sniffles, laughs] I canât believe you did this. I could strangle you.
Geoffrey: Hey, we did this. Me and you.
Nancy: God, what are we going to do with a baby? I donât even think Iâve ever met a baby.
Geoffrey: We got this, Nancy. Itâs us, weâre talking about. Weâll be great!
Nancy Narrates: [Who would have thought; a wife and soon a mother. This was the life I chose]
-
Queenie: You should head home, Nancy. Iâve scheduled you a prenatal massage to your residence for this evening. Iâll have my intern take over your projects for the time being.
Nancy: Oh. Thank you, mother. Thatâs very kind of you.
Queenie: Itâs the least I could do. You are carrying my grandson, after all.
Queenie: [murmurs] My lucky girl.
Nancy Narrates: [A wife, a mother, the perfect daughter]
-
Nancy: [howls]
Doctor: Weâre going to give one big push, ok mom? Youâre doing great! Ok, now push, Mrs. Landgraab!
Geoffrey: You are doing great, Nancy! Wow! Youâre amazing! Thatâs it, just keep breathing. In and out. In and out-
Nancy: Aughhhh! Geoffrey, shut the fuck up!
Geoffrey: Okay!
Doctor: And push!
[infant wails]
Doctor: Congratulations mom and dad! A boy!
Nancy Narrates: [This was the life I chose]

As a little girl, you had this idyllic vision of what your adult life would be like. You thought by the time you entered your 20s, you would have graduated from college and easily walked into your dream career. But now, as an adult, you're confronted with the harsh realities of life. You only have $300 to your name, a coupon for a free pizza from your go-to pizza place, and a tech degree that seems to be of no use. To make matters worse, you've ruined your credit during your college years, and you've just ended a three-year relationship. It feels like everything is against you, and the only choice you have is to go back to your hometown to stay with your mom until you get back on your feet.
Leaving Los Angeles was hard enough, but landing in Connecticut felt like a blow to your pride. Everything looks the same as when you left, and the people haven't changed much either. You want to drop down to your knees and cry when you realize that this is where you're going to be for the next few months of your life. But you still have some dignity left in you, so you grab your luggage and try to compose yourself as you walk towards the pickup section to wait for your mom.
Blinking back tears, you inhale a deep breath and pull out your phone. You wait patiently as your phone searches for service in the area. When the service finally sets in, your phone blows up with 70 different alerts: two calls from your best friend, Joy, and three text messages from her telling you to have a safe trip and to keep your head up.
Six missed calls from your ex-boyfriend and seven text messages from him begging you to talk to him.
51 emails from the various job search sites that you signed up with and one singular text message from your mom.
Mom: Hey! I won't be able to make it. But don't worry, I'll have Jaehyun come pick you up. Can't wait to see you!
As if on cue, a familiar black 2015 Toyota Corolla pulls up right in front of you, and none other than Jung Jaehyun gets out of the car.
"This has to be a joke." You breathe, your shoulders raising as you do so.
He smirks the second he lays eyes on you, "Wow you haven't aged a bit."
You wish you could say the same about him, he'd grown a lot more mature since you last saw him. He wasn't the 18-year-old boy you were once head over heels for. He was way taller; he grew his hair out, and you could tell that he started hitting the gym.
"Why are you here?" You look up at him with folded arms.
He doesn't take you seriously. He never did. "Sorry, I'm late." He chuckles and takes your suitcase from beside you to load it in the back of his car.
Once he finishes his first task, he walks back around to open the door for you, gesturing to the passenger seat with both arms and a smile that you wish you could hate.
"I'm not getting in the car, Jaehyun." You remain in your spot, arms still folded over your chest.
"No?" He asks condescendingly.
You repeat, "No." Firm on your feet.
"Well, I guess. I'll see you there then." You watch him close the door and walk to the driver's side without sparing you a look. He starts the car and drives away, leaving you with two options.
You could chase after him and embarrass yourself, or you could remain stubborn and just call an Uber.
You choose to chase the car after realizing that the phone that you would use to call an Uber was sitting in the back of his trunk.
He watches you run after him from his rearview mirror; he slows down but refuses to stop until you were banging on the side of the window, begging him to stop. He got a thrill out of this, and you could tell.
"Did you change your mind?" He teases
Physically, Jaehyun was a completely different person; he grew up, well, you'll admit that. But personality-wise? He hadn't changed at all. He was still the same sarcastic asshole you met in high school.
You mutter, "I don't have my phone." As you slide into the passenger seat, out of breath. You subtly look around, taking notice that the car still smells the same way you remembered it; it was just cleaner now. Sooner or later, your eyes dart to the back seat, and Jaehyun chuckles when you do.
"So what's L. A like?" He asks suddenly, one hand on the steering wheel and the other draped over his thigh.
"It's fun and different. My boyfriend helped to introduce me to a lot of new things." You purposely mention your (ex) boyfriend just to see his reaction.
To your dismay, his reaction is as simple as none. He only asks, "How will long-distance work out for you? It didn't seem to work with us."
"We'll do fine." You say, trying to sound confident.
The car falls silent for a few moments before he starts up a new conversation. "I'm glad you're back."
The statement seems taunting, even if you know that's not how he means it. You always dreamt of moving away to a big city where no one knew who you were, and now that you're back home, it just feels like you are a failure.
"I'm not staying for long." You gaze out of the window.
"Since you're back in town, we should hang out sometime," he suggests, sneaking glances at you.
"I didn't come back to see you."
"Suit yourself, but remember I'm always just a phone call away."
As you step into the familiar house, you can't help but notice that everything looks the same. Though your mom has rearranged some things, the overall feel is still the same. She's standing at the counter, wearing her favorite white robe and sipping on a glass of wine. Even she looks the same, and you can't help but wonder if the past five years have been stuck in time.
Your thoughts are interrupted when Jaehyun speaks up from behind you, offering to take the bags upstairs. You're about to protest when your mom pulls you into a warm hug, rocking you back and forth. "Oh, my baby, I missed you so much," she coos, holding your face in her hands. "Have you been skipping meals?" She asks, eyeing you closely. When you shake your head, she mutters disapprovingly, "I hope you didn't start one of those stupid L.A diets." You hear Jaehyun snicker from behind you, but you can't break free from your mom's grip to glare at him.
"No, mom." You mutter shamefully like a middle schooler who just got through a scolding.
"We've got to fatten you up." She pinches your cheeks before she lets you go. Oh, you and Jaehyun should go try out the taco place down the street." Your mom swings her index finger between you and your ex-boyfriend. "They opened it up after you left. It's amazing, and the staff there is amazing, too."
You open your mouth to speak, but Jaehyun beats you to it. "I think she'd rather the tacos in L.A" he says as he stands beside your mom, looking down on you in a way that feels degrading. The only thing you can do is wonder when they got so close.
Your mom has always liked Jaehyun, but it seemed like she adopted him after you left. If you look close enough, you might find similarities in their facial features.
"Jaehyun probably has other things to do. Why don't we just go instead? It's been a while since it was just you and me." You waltz over and loop your arm around your mom's right arm. Opposite side of where Jaehyun was standing
"Or we could all go out together." Suggests, Jaehyun with a grin so big you could see his dimples.
Your mom's face glows at the thought as she pushes you aside. "That sounds like a wonderful Idea."
"How was your flight?" Joy's voice comes through the speaker of your phone while you prop it up against your old desk. You slide back in your seat to start your face care while simultaneously talking to her.
"Long, it should be illegal for infants to fly on a plane." You mutter, slapping the moisturizer on your face and rubbing it in circles along your cheeks.
Joy gets closer to the camera just to say, "That's harsh," but she doesn't bother to try to hide her laugh.
"Okay maybe not illegal, but there should at least be a secluded area for parents flying with newborns, or you know⊠just kids who still cry." You drag out the last part when you get closer to the mirror and run your index finger along the new pimple you have growing in.
"Like a daycare?" Joy asks
"That wasn't what I was thinking, but that works too."
"Okay enough about that, have you seen him yet?" Joy whispers against the speaker of her own phone and thankfully so because just as soon as she mentions him Jaehyun comes walking into your room without a notice or a knock.
"Dinners ready." He stops at the entrance of your room but gets closer when he sees that you're on the phone. Close enough for him to show up on your camera screen and wave his hand around. "Hi, Joy." He smiles tauntingly.
"I have to go," you mutter and hang up the call before either of them can get another word in. Turning in your seat to ask "Why are you here?" for the second time today.
His smile doesn't falter, and he doesn't back away, either. "What? You don't want to see me?" he teases.
"I don't," you murmur, pushing him away with the palm of your hand and rolling your eyes. You stand up when he backs up, but his eyes remain on you. You hate that you didn't hate it, and you hate that you don't hate him.
You always thought you would be angry if you ever saw him again, you expected that you'd shed a few tears even. But all of that was furthest from the truth because now that you saw him again you were only reminded of the love you kept harbored away for him.
You were gonna be fine, as long as you kept your distance.
"You invited him over for dinner?" You quietly mutter to your mom, hoping that Jaehyun won't hear you.
"Don't be like that, he came over all the time while you were gone. That's not gonna change because of a little breakup."
"But Mom." You whine.
She hears none of it as she continues setting the table and praising Jaehyun for how helpful he was compared to her own child. You grimace at the statement before plopping down at the table with your arms crossed.
Jaehyun takes the seat across from you, and your mom takes the one adjacent. "Isn't this wonderful? It's been so long since I've seen the two of you together." She smiles and clamps her hands together.
"Is he going to come over every night?" You ask, wiping the smile off of your mom's face. You've always been a fan of your mom's cooking, but now you were picking at the rice and mixing it around. Your spoon clinks against the bottom of the glass plate before you go to take a spoonful.
Sucking in a hiss when your mom smacks your arm, "Why don't you be nice?"
"I was just asking." You whine once more but pull your lips into a thin line when you realize that no matter what, she's going to take his side and Jaehyun's enjoying it.
"You know the carnival is opening tomorrow." Your mom starts again, "You guys should go out and have fun. It's summer, and you're still young."
"I can't. I have toâŠ" You look around for any excuse that won't get you slapped for a second time. "Unpack."
Your efforts count for nothing as your mom slaps you again on the arm. "Oh, don't be stubborn." She laughs. "Jaehyun, you aren't busy, right?"
"No, mam." He smiles, specifically at you.
"And neither are you," she says when she looks at you. "So it's settled; you can pick her up tomorrow." Your mom claps her hands together with a bright smile.
"No, I really can't." You wave your hand around.
"Well, you don't have a job, do you?" is all your mom has to say to make you lower your chin and shake your head. "Then I don't see why not."
"Besides, you could use a picker-upper since you broke up with that little boyfriend of yours." She adds unsolicited. You want to hide, curl up into a ball, and just vanish, disappear, and go anywhere but here.
"You broke up?" Jaehyun pipes up with a smirk.
You scramble to defend yourself, but the best you can come up with is, "We're just taking a little break."and that's all you get to say before your mom interrupts.
"Say, Jaehyun, don't you have that pan I let you borrow? I think I might need it for tomorrow night's dinner."
He nods, "Yeah, I can bring it tomorrow if you'd like."
"No, you might forget. Y/n, why don't you ride with him and bring the pan back."
The mention of your name makes you choke on your food, "What?"
"That'll give you guys some time to catch up." If you didn't know any better, you would think she was doing this on purpose. But you did know better and knew she was doing this on purpose.
"But it's late, and he has bad eyesight." You point, searching for any way that you could to get her to change her mind. Retracting when you see the way he's looking at you. "I mean, it's never safe to drive at night."
"That's more of a reason for you to go. I wouldn't want him stranded on the side of the road." says your mom.
"What about me?"
"If you're ready, we can go now." She ignores you when Jaehyun stands up in his chair.
"Yes, you two get going. I'll clean this up." Your mother hurries you out of your seat, pushing you along with Jaehyun to the door. You don't even get to say anything before she's waving and slamming the door in your face, locking you out of the house with your pajamas, bunny slippers, and your ex.
"You coming?" Jaehyun yells, standing on the passenger side of his black car.
You look at the door once and let out a long, deep sigh as you stomp to his car, sliding past him and into the passenger seat, but not without rolling your eyes.
"If you keep rolling your eyes, they're going to get stuck in the back of your head," Jaehyun teases before closing the car door.
He gets into the car shortly after and starts it immediately. You hope to keep the car ride quiet, but Jaehyun has other plans as he starts returning to his place. "I see long distance isn't your strong suit."
Naturally, you want to roll your eyes. You notice it's just a common occurrence when you are around him. "I already told you were working things out; I just didn't wanna hold him back."
You turn to him when you hear a small laugh. "Working things out," he repeats. "How come I didn't get that option?"
"You didn't deserve it."
"So you really love him, huh?" He glances over to see your reaction, and based on your facial expressions alone, he knows he's right.
He knows the answer, but you're not as sure. Is it possible for you to love two men at once?
"I don't wanna talk about this tonight, Jaehyun." You sigh and gaze out of the window. Per your request, he remains quiet for the rest of the ride. But now that you're sitting in complete silence, all you have to do is think. Think about the feelings and emotions you thought you had left in the past.
What would things be like if you had never ended things with Jaehyun? Would you have met your ex? Would you be conflicted right now sitting in the passenger seat of your ex's car while thinking about your other ex?
"Are you coming in?" Jaehyun asks, holding his apartment door open for you.
You prop up against the wall behind you and fold your arms. "No, I'll stand right here," you say, but swiftly run behind him when you hear someone else leave their apartment. The last thing you needed was someone else to see you standing outside his door, whether they knew you or not.
"Hi, Johnny." Jaehyun turns to wave at the neighbor against your wishes, smiling at you when you glare at him. "Don't worry, he's not gonna bite you."
Your only response is another glare; he simply smiles while you walk past him and into his apartment.
This seems to be the nature of your relationship: You're hot-headed and easily irritated, while Jaehyun is sarcastic and loves to get under your skin. It's always been like this, and there was just no telling how the two of you ever managed to fall in love.
Jaehyun stands behind you when you scan his living area. It's exactly what you'd expect from a man, and especially Jaehyun. There's a couch and some small decor here and there, but it feels cold and bare for the most part.
It's almost hard to believe that this is where he spends most of his time.
You keep your thoughts to yourself and follow him into the kitchen, where you continue to look around.
"Seems like you and my mom got close," you speak, hoping to distract him from how you are inspecting everything in his apartment.
Jaehyun answers, "Yeah, I guess you could say that." His head dips into the cabinets under the counter, searching for the pan that brought him here in the first place.
You raise your hands to each arm and sigh, "So was that on purpose⊠or?"
"She was the closest thing I could get to you." He says casually, as if everyone's heard that before.
You, on the other hand, aren't as casual about the subject as he is. You drop your arms to your side and start looking around again for a sudden change of conversation, which Jaehyun misses with his head still tucked under the cabinets.
"I like what you've done with the place; it's cozy." You lie, and you're glad he isn't looking at you because you know he can tell that you are with just a glance.
You forgot that he could also tell when you were nervous. He's always been able to read you like a children's book, and he always used that against you.
"It wasn't as easy for me to jump into another relationship as fast as you did." He stands up with the pan in his hand. The look he gives you makes your face feel hot; you begin choking over words.
"I- I don't wanna talk about this."
"I do." He slides the pan back when you reach for it but closes the distance between you. He gets so close that you have to crane your neck to look up at him. He's so close that you're scared he might hear the beat of your heart. He's so close that you could just kiss him. "I missed you, Y/n. More than you could ever imagine."
You admit you still have feelings for Jaehyun but won't act on them. After all, you're a firm believer in "Control your actions, not your emotions," but he's only getting closer and closer.
You start to rethink your philosophies when you breathe in the scent of his cologne. Your skin feels hot and you don't know how long you plan on holding back from him.
It's going to happen sooner or later, so why not sooner? You think as you allow him to take the last step needed to close the space between you.
When his lips connect with yours, you wrap your arms around his neck to pull him closer, and suddenly, he lifts you up by the back of your thighs to carry you back to his bedroom.
The bright yellow light beaming over your closed eyelids wakes you up from your deep slumber. The arm wrapped tightly around your abdomen causes your eyes to nearly bulge out of your head.
Your clothes sprawled on the floor is enough evidence to prove that last night wasn't just a dream. Being pretty much naked in nothing but one of his T-shirts is just the icing on top.
You really slept with your ex.
"Jaehyun," you whisper, gently tapping his arm, which is more than enough to wake him up.
He groans, "Good Morning" as he starts to lay kisses all over the back of your shoulders. And if possible, his hold on you just gets tighter as he pulls you back towards him.
"I have to go home."
"Sure thing, baby." He says, laying one kiss on the back of your head and another on your cheek. With that, he rolls off the bed and begins getting dressed, smiling like an idiot while he does so.
You choose to ignore it; for once, he wasn't acting like an asshole, and you just need some quietness while you take the time to collect your clothes from around the floor.
However, when you reach the car, your thoughts spew like a waterfall. "We can't do that again." You don't give him time to respond, to neither agree nor disagree, before you go on a tangent that lasts the entire 12-minute car ride.
"Okay," Jaehyun responds after pulling into the driveway of your childhood home.
He's never really been much of a talker; if anything, he just liked to say simple things that he knew would piss you off. You're certain this has to be one of them. Unfortunately, that doesn't stop your blood from growing hot.
"okay?" You repeat with squinted eyes. "I just told you I never wanted to see or talk to you again and just go 'okay?"
"What do you want me to say?" He almost laughs, and that just riles you up more.
"Anything else? Did you even mean everything you said yesterday, or were you just looking for sex?" He doesn't say anything at first. He looks away and gazes out the window for what feels like half an hour but is only 8 seconds.
"I don't know." He shrugs
"You don't know?" You repeat him yet again.
"Well, do you want me to tell you the truth?" He asks calm as ever, completely opposite to you.
"No, I don't." You murmur, stomping out of his car and slamming the door behind you.
Jaehyun lets you get to your porch before he rolls his passenger seat window down and shouts, "I'll pick you up at two." When you turn around, you're met with a dimpled smile and his crescent eyes.
If you weren't already so angry, you would've matched his smile, and for a second, you almost do.
He always knew how to make you mad and how to make you laugh. That's why you fell in love with each other, and it only took a special set of dimples to remind you of that.
The sun is still young at 2 p.m., well, 1:51 p.m., to be exact. You were coming to terms with the fact that you had slept with your ex and that you'd been counting the seconds, waiting for two o'clock to come.
The knock at the door sends you rushing down the steps, nearly tripping over your own feet. You barely contain your smile when you see Jaehyun standing on the other side of the door.
"You're early," you scoff, walking past him and closing the door behind you. Jaehyun does nothing but smile at you, reaching for your hand to pull you closer to him as he guides you to his car.
He leaves a kiss on your cheek and mumbles, "I couldn't wait to see you." To which you roll your eyes in an attempt to hide the way your lips turn up into a subtle smile.
The wind from outside seeps into the car as he drives through the highway, one hand interlocked with yours and the other on the steering wheel. He glances at you a few times and, after the third time, says, "You know this is a date, right?"
You turn your head towards the window and pretend like you can't hear him. Only for him to roll both windows up and repeat, "You know this is a date, right?"
"I didn't agree to a date." You retort, "I'm only here cause my mom forced me to."
"Is that why you're still holding my hand?" He asks, his eyes focused on the road ahead.
You shift in your seat, but you don't dare to let go of his hand. If anything, your grasp on him just gets tighter, and you go back to looking out the window. "My hand is cold, and yours is warm," you murmur.
Your answer warrants him to bring your hand up to his lips and leave a chaste kiss or a few. He does that often throughout the evening, randomly pulling you closer to him just to leave kisses on your cheek or forehead.
It feels like high school all over again. Jaehyun's still staring at you like a lovesick fool, and you still get butterflies in the pit of your stomach when you make eye contact. "This isn't a date," you state suddenly.
The warm breeze, carrying the scent of summer, gently tousles your hair as you gaze up at your ex. "And I meant what I said. After this, I don't wanna see you again." The air is filled with the sounds of young teens cheering and laughing, their voices blending into a joyful cacophony.
Jaehyun uses his index finger to move the hair out of your face and push it behind your ear. "Okay," he says softly, with his hand still lingering on your cheek. His thumb softly grazes your lower lip.
You breathe, "I'm serious, Jae." But the use of his nickname and the way you look at him tells him you're anything but serious.
"I know." He says, switching his focus between your eyes and your lips. He kisses you, but you take the initiative to pull him closer by the nape of his neck, feeling the heat of his body transform onto yours.
The feeling is all too familiar,â like euphoric bliss or, rather, a certain type of high you don't ever want to come down from. "I missed you." You slur against his lips, arms still tied around him so he can't go anywhere.
"I know." is all he says before he leans in to kiss you again.
The car is pretty silent other than the small taps of the raindrops on the windows and the music playing on his car radio at the lowest volume. Occasionally, you can hear vibrations from your phone.
Jaehyun's hand is firmly wrapped around yours, and it's been like that for the past hour. He pulls you right back every time you try to slip away. "So what about Sicheng? How is he?" you ask, resting your head against the back of the seat.
"He's married now," Jaehyun answers. The tips of his lips turn upwards into a smile when he sees your widened eyes.
"To whom?"
"I don't know her name." He looks off to the side as if to think. "They got married a year ago."
"I would've never thought." The car falls silent again, and just as soon as it does, your phone buzzes for probably the hundredth time of the night.
Jaehyun lets your hand go just long enough for you to check your messages.
There are over 20 missed calls from Joy and one text from her telling you to call her ASAP.
Then, there are three messages from your ex begging you to call him. His contact is still saved as "my love." It's been like that since you first got together, and you hadn't thought of changing it after you broke up.
Well, it's more like you couldn't bring yourself to do it. If you were to change his name and block him, things would be real for you. And you were desperately clinging on to hope. Maybe things will work out; you'll go back to L.A and be with him again.
"Are you okay?" Jaehyun pulls you out of your thoughts, sliding his hand into yours and interlocking your fingers.
"Yeah," you shake your head and lock your phone.
You have no idea what tomorrow might bring, but for tonight, you just want to sit with Jaehyun, even if it is just for tonight.
"Hello." It's probably 6 am if you had to guess. Birds are singing right outside of your window, and the sun isn't all the way up yet.
You sit up in your bed with one hand holding your phone to your ear and the other moving your hair out of your face. "Why didn't you call me back?" Joy's voice echoes through the speaker of your phone.
"Maybe because I was asleep?" You snap back, eyes barely open.
"I got you a job." That's enough to have you leaping off your bed with your eyes jumping out of the socket.
"Say, sike." You chirp. "Please don't say sike."
"I'm serious; I told them you were out of town, but you can start next month." She explains, calm as ever.
"Joy, you are amazing." You exclaim into the phone. "Have I ever told you you're the bestest best friend in the entire world?"
"You've mentioned it a few times." You don't have to see her to know that she's smirking. "I have to go now. I just wanted to tell you about the job. I'll call you back later."
She doesn't give you time to say anything else before the call is dropped. You throw your phone down and plop down on your bed. You can't help but smile, thinking about how things are gonna go back to normal.
However, when you feel your phone vibrate against your side and you read Jaehyun's name âoff your screen, your smile fades. You were so excited about going back to L.A that you forgot about him.
For the next few days, you do your best to forget about everything and just spend time with Jaehyun, whether it be chatting in his car or even helping him redecorate his sad and cold jail ce- apartment.
"What's the catch?" Jaehyun asks suddenly, his index finger twirling in your hair. You shift your â head against his chest to look at him.
"What are you talking about?"
"You've been acting really weird lately," he explains, "You're all clingy now. Which I like, but it also feels too good to be true." You can see a shift in the way he looks at you and in the tone of his voice. "It feels like you might try to leave me again."
"I'm just trying to make up for lost time." You're too afraid to tell him that your time with him is limited. Too afraid of his reaction and of your own emotions.
"You don't have to lie to me." He sits up against the headboard of his bed, and you do the same thing. "I knew this was only temporary, and I know I shouldn't have let my feelings get involved again." Jaehyun takes a deep breath before continuing, "But I love you. I think I always will."
When you don't say anything, he keeps going. "Let's try again." He says.
"Jaehyun-" He cuts you off with a kiss, not wanting to hear âyour rejection.
"We can move to L.A together." He speaks against your lips, "And we can find an apartment. I'll get a job, I'll sell my car if I have to."
His determination makes you giggle, and soon enough, he starts laughing with you."I thought you hated the city."
"I do. But you love the city, and I love you,"
"I didn't know you were such a romantic." You beam, butterflies erupting as he reaches to move the hair out of your face and behind your ear.
"But we'll have to move my son out too. I'm not asking you to play stepmom, but I do want to be in his life." Jaehyun speaks casually, but your jaw is growing heavy, and the butterflies are starting to feel like poison or mini daggers hitting your gut all at once.
You only manage to squeak "What?" Even though there are so many questions, you want to ask.
"I'm kidding." He breaks into a laugh, but you're still left confused and slightly heartbroken.
"That's not funny, Jae." You whine when he pulls you in to leave a kiss on your forehead.
"It's hilarious, baby."
You jump up off the bed the second your phone begins to vibrate, running to the door and checking the doorway to make sure Jaehyun is occupied before you slowly and softly close the door to answer the call.
"Hello?" You breathe into your phone speaker as you tiptoe back to the bed.
"Hello? Girl, why are you whispering." Joy asks, "Where are you?"
You don't have to answer that question because Jaehyun answers that question for you when he busts through the door to ask "Do you want take out or should we cook tonight?"
"Take out." You answer, covering your phone mic.
Still, your best friend hears everything, "Who is that?" She questions.
"Okay, do you want Pizza or Chinese food?" Jaehyun asks, leaning in between the doorway.
"Y/n, that better not be who I think it is." Joy scolds from her end of the line.
You answer Jaehyun to ignore Joy. "I don't know, you choose," you say urgently, anything to get him out of the room.
"I know how you are, baby. I don't want to get you something that you don't feel like eating," Jaehyun explains, walking further into the room.
The closer he gets, the louder your heart beats and the more your best friend yells at you. "Baby?" She barks through the speaker and right into your ear.
You rush to hit the mute button, but with your eyes focused on Jaehyun, you slip up and accidentally put your best friend on speaker phone. "Y/n, you better answer me right now."
When her voice rings through the room, your heart stops beating altogether. For the second time this month, you want to vanish, disappear into thin air, and cease to exist.
"Hi, Joy." Jaehyun greets with a large grin that shows his dimples on full display.
Joy only responds in a monotone, "Jaehyun." You rush to say, "I'll do a plain cheese pizza." Once again, you are just trying to get him out of the room.
"Sure thing, baby." He cooes, with a kiss to your cheek. Soon enough he's out of the room and you're alone again. With a deafening silence.
"Things happened." You hesitantly speak.
"Things like what?" Your clothes slipped off, and you fell into his bed?" You hear a sigh immediately after she snaps, and you're too afraid to say anything else. "What aboutâ"" I don't wanna talk about him," you interject.
"Okay, but does he know you're coming back?" Joy asks, referring to Jaehyun. When you don't answer, she gets worried. "You are coming back, right?"
"Of course I'm coming back. I just haven't told him yet." You trail off on the last part.
She doesn't say anything for a long while, and neither do you. You sit in your own disappointment, you didn't need her to tell you that you messed up because you already knew that.
"Y/n, I'm only saying this because I love youâŠ" It doesn't take a genius to know that what's coming next is about to hurt. "You're being really stupid right now."
That hurt a lot more than you thought it would. "Wow, thanks, Joy."
"Listen, I don't want you to get hurt again."
"I'm not, he's changed, and things are different now." You explain although you're not even sure you believe it yourself.
"Then why haven't you told him yet?" She asks, but you don't answer. "You're going to give him the chance to break you again?"
"He's not," you cry, pulling against the ends of Jaehyun's oversized shirt, which you stole out of his drawer to wear.
Joy can hear the tone of your voice soften, so she softens hers as well, but it doesn't change the gravity of her words. "Do you remember how long it took for-" "Please don't mention him." You interrupt her, already knowing who she's about to bring up.
"Look I'll figure things out, but for now I just wanna be happy." You continue, "I think I deserve that."
"You do, Y/n. You deserve nothing but happiness, and if he makes you happy, then don't let me get in your way. but don't forget who you have waiting for you in California with open arms." Joy attests
"I know you're just looking out for me, but I don't know if I can go back to him knowing what I did while I was here."
"You know better than I do that he'd never judge you." And you did. You knew that very well. Your ex never made you feel insignificant or anything of the sort. He never shamed you or made you feel guilty for anything. But that didn't change the fact that you would judge yourself.
"I just need time to think about everything." You say, almost in a whisper.
"I trust that you'll do the right thing." Joy reassures, "I'm gonna go now. I love you."
"I love you too." You say before hanging up the phone and throwing it on the other side of the bed. The call leaves you feeling nothing but confused, and Jaehyun notices it the second he walks into the room.
Your subtle pout and the way you're holding the pillow to your chest tell him exactly how you're feeling. "What's wrong?" He takes the seat beside you, tugging at your waist so you can scoot closer to him.
"Did you mean what you said about moving to L.A.?" You ask first. Your hand rests over his when he reaches to stroke your cheek.
"I wouldn't play about that Y/n"
You take a deep breath when you get the answer you want. "Joy got me a job, and they want me to start next month."
"What? That's amazing, baby." He cooes, grabbing each of your hands. "We're going to L.A"
He reacted way differently than you imagined he would; the look on his face tells you he's sincere, and the flutter in your heart makes you hope that he really is. You don't think you can take another heartbreak, not from him.
As you stand in your old room, the brown paper box at your feet, you can't help but feel a strong sense of nostalgia wash over you. You take in every detail: the way the sunlight filters through the window, casting a warm glow on everything in the room; the creaking sound of the wooden floorboards under your feet, each one carrying a memory of its own; and the scent of your old perfume that still lingers in the air, like a faint echo of a bygone era.
This time, as you prepare to leave, it feels different. It feels like you're saying goodbye for good, and the thought of leaving this place forever fills you with a deep sense of loss. When you first arrived in Connecticut, you couldn't wait to leave, but now you find yourself wishing you could stay just a little bit longer so you could relive the memories of your past, which you hold so dear.
However, you know that the real reason you're dreading going back is that you don't want to face your ex. The thought of telling him that you're now in a relationship with the man you used to cry to him about fills you with anxiety. You're unsure of how he'll react, and the mere prospect of facing him makes your heart race with fear.
The more you think about it, the more you realize that things are not looking good for you. You're caught between your love for your new partner and your fear of the unknown.
Suddenly, your mom yells from downstairs, "Y/n, someone is here for you." You don't pay much attention to the hesitation in her voice, too lost in thought. You wish you had because when you reach the bottom of the stairs and look up, Doyoung, your ex, is standing right across from you with a saddened smile and a black duffle bag. Your heart skips a beat as you see him. You hadn't expected him to be here, but now that he is, you don't know how to react. You mutter, "What are you doing here?" As you wrap your arms around yourself, unsure of what to do next.

Don't think about backing down, honey. You said about wanting to feel feminine in the past. I think it's time we take our relationship to the next level. As girls. It's now or never.
It's probably not Woman Crush Wednesday by the time I post this, but I wanted to talk about it anyway. Those of you who have seen this beautiful woman have heard about a certain Vicki Li. She is a Chinese model who has gained a huge following for the past decade or so for her gorgeous looks and seductive aura. I know it may sound repetitive at this point, but it's definitely true. The image you see is from 2015. She still looks around the same, if not, much more hotter!
Now just imagine you have a girlfriend like her and you've dated her for quite some time, to the point where you both live together. She thinks about her future and she sees you in them. The thing is, you also think about yours and the image of yourself is much more different. You mentioned to her about wanting to feel like a woman in a more jokingly way for laughs. But now, you mentioned the same thing to her and nobody is laughing anymore.
Your relationship has been in the rocks lately and she felt that was because of age, infidelity, or exhaustion from real life problems. Now, she realizes it's because you're most likely trans. Time passes by and one day, you come back home tired from a long day of work. As you open the bedroom door to fire up the games console to play a gaming session with the boys, you find your girlfriend dressed in red lingerie in a seducing way. You ask her in polite words, "What's this?"
Her response: "Tonight's session will be with me. But this time, there will be no boys. Are you in?"

"but then again this is the guy whoâs publically known for loving to eat ass so"
I'm sorry, I thought Nate eating ass was fanon. Are you telling me this is an actual canon fact??
god i love when people donât realise how much âfanonâ around sid and nate is actually canon. itâs like heroin to me. also bc itâs like. 90% of the stuff in fics (which is probably why people assume itâs fanon but. oh boy itâs not. thereâs shockingly little fanon around these two, mostly because canon is so abundant).
yes, nathan mackinnon is a known ass-eater. let me direct you to this post, anon. youâre welcome.
other nate (and sid) facts you might not have realised are canon:
nate is a known advocate for therapy. heâs been seeing a sports therapist since 2017
they wear matching clothing all the fucking time, sid has said publicly that he started wearing white sneakers and updated his wardrobe due to nateâs influence (iirc nate mightâve even bought him his first pair of white sneakers? either that or it was a âhe told me i need to so i didâ situation). they share a tailor. unfortunately i now have to bring your attention to the fact that since they have an alarming amount of matching clothes that theyâve bought for each other, that means that they in fact have to know each otherâs clothing sizes off by heart. they also low-key share clothing btw
their families celebrate canada day together and their dads are best friends. in-law behaviour goes crazy
nate did in fact stalk his way into sidâs heart (got the same personal trainer and agent at age 13; built his house next door in 2017; theyâve been spending every day in the summers together since at least 2015. sid cooks for them daily, or at least did pre-pandemic. sid refuses to use nateâs gym tho so they always use sidâs).
nate used to have a fan twitter account more or less where he rooted for the pens. it was active until 2017.
sid and nate regularly go to summer weddings together as each otherâs dates. they have done this since, once again, at least 2015
nate has confirmed that he used to have a poster of sid on his wall as a teenager (he didnât confirm he used to jerk off to it but frankly. i think thatâd be saying the quiet part out loud)
when sid won the cup in 2009 and held the parade in cole harbour, nate stood by the side of the road watching it. he was about to turn 14, he was already working with sidâs trainer and agent, and he was about to start attending shattuck (sidâs junior high). due to old pics we also know that this was RIGHT before nate had his first growth spurt and hit puberty. iâm not saying seeing sid with the cup kickstarted nateâs puberty and gave him his first boner but iâm not NOT saying it
nate dated vanessa morgan of riverdale fame in his rookie year. sheâs now good friends with elias petersson from the vancouver canucks (this means nothing but i do think itâs a very funny coincidence).
nate schmidt, formerly of the VGK, once failed a drug test (it turned out to be a testing-fuck-up); when nhl players were asked about it natemack iconically said âi donât think he was sticking a needle up his assâ (i just like this one)
when he was a kid, the one other thing sid wanted to be was a hairdresser. nate, on the other hand, âdidnât have a plan Bâ
nate is canonically possessive of sid (see: the asg 2024) and sid is canonically delighted by this and into it
they go on so many lunch dates in the summer my dude. they go grocery shopping together. like thereâs so many pics of them in grocery stores or out having coffee or weird green shakes
oh i almost forgot, they went on a roadtrip through ireland last year. theyâve been on holiday together multiple times over the years though. done some eurotripping together and stuff. in 2015 they spent three months together, three weeks of which were spent living in sidâs santa monica condo together just the two of them
sid has put up a picture of every stanley cup winning captain in his basement since 2008, when the pens lost in the scf to DET. apparently this serves as motivation for him to win the cup. he notoriously does not watch the playoffs after the pens are out
however, he partied so hard at nateâs cup party he actually closed down the party with his dad. nate is the only non-teammate sidâs ever been seen supporting for a cup run (heâs also never been to his teammatesâ cup parties afaik so. thereâs that)
also they talked on the phone daily and between periods during nateâs cup run. they also canonically have almost weekly phone dates that can run multiple hours. quote nate âi canât talk to anyone else the way i can talk to himâ
they each have pictures of the two of them together framed in each otherâs houses
thereâs rumours theyâre building adjoining houses on neighbouring properties in cape breton next to a golf course bc apparently being neighbours in halifax isnât enough or something. this one is as yet unconfirmed by reputable sources though
#god thereâs so much#anyway please refer to the primer if you wanna know more#sidnate#squidney crocsby#natty mac#kookanswers#anon#long post

Ryan Guzman is currently filming his next thriller: Midnight and, in his talk with Xmag, he takes a tour of his professional career. Despite his current international projection as an actor, Ryan Guzman did not plan to dedicate himself to acting at first. The American actor and model began to get interested in mixed martial arts when he was only seven years old and, after winning his first black belt when he was ten, he was a mixed martial arts fighter in Sacramento until 2010. A shoulder injury prevented him from continuing with his dream and he redirected his career working as a model in various magazines and brands such as Abercrombie & Fitch, Affliction and Reebok. Everything completely changed when he got his first starring role in Step Up: Revolution. âIt changed the direction of my life. It was as if I was launching myself into a world that I had only seen in the distance.â The dance franchise was an international success and Ryan tells us about the process he followed for the films, which, according to him, has always been the same over the years. âI try hard at something new without fear of failure. I do it this way because I know that I can fail at the beginning of anything I try. The goal is to learn from my failures and be open to new ideas when it comes to acquiring and perfecting a skill.â
His career as an actor continued in 2015 with the psychological thriller The Boy Next Door, which as Ryan explains, gave him "an invaluable perspective on the business side of the entertainment industry.â In the film, he shared the limelight with Jennifer Lopez and Ryan tells us about his experience working on the film and what it was like working with her. "Jennifer's life is something that most people won't be able to comprehend because it involves A LOT. She's a superstar. He has a million things going on at the same time. I had a great time collaborating with her and the director, Rob. They both made me feel very comfortable. It was so much fun playing the bad boy!â From a psychological drama about a woman who falls in love with her younger neighbor, Ryan jumped to play Eddie Diaz in the police drama series 9-1-1, which tells the story of a Los Angeles rescue group willing to attend to any emergency. The series underwent a big change after its transition from the FOX network to ABC and Ryan explains how that has affected his character. "Eddie's character has evolved a lot since his introduction into the 9-1-1 universe. As in any great evolution, destruction must occur in order to rebuild something new. The transition from FOX to ABC came at a perfect time for my character and I was able to represent that evolution through destruction just before another defining event in Eddie's life. Season eight is about Eddie making peace with his demons and finding self-love.â Being a series that deals with extreme and challenging situations, Ryan describes how he prepared physically and psychologically for those moments. "Empathy is the key. I draw from what I've experienced and my understanding of it; then I use the truth of those encounters to connect with the character. As for my physical fitness, I keep practicing martial arts." Recently, one of his latest projects has been the fictional comedy The Present, starring Isla Fisher and Greg Kinnear. Ryan explains that the possibility of working with these two actors was one of the reasons I chose this film. âThe moment I saw that Isla Fisher and Greg Kinnear were involved in the film, I joined the project. These are two actors I've always wanted to collaborate with. Working with Isla was a dream, she gave me a lot of love and knowledge and Greg is someone who I have always enjoyed watching perform. Also, the theme resonated deeply with me, as I was going through a divorce at the time, which made the story especially relatable.â
Right now, the American actor is involved in the filming of the thriller Midnight. "I received the script from writer Lamont Magee and when he asked me if I would be interested in one of the roles opposite Rosario Dawson, he didn't have to say much more to capture my interest. 'Midnight' was an opportunity to show action in a way that I haven't been able to do as much as I would like as an actor.â According to Ryan, the thriller promises to be an intriguing story and one that will surprise the spectators. "I think seeing Rosario Dawson come face to face with Mila Jovovich is intriguing enough, but then you add the layers of her sister's character, played by Alexandra Shipp and the truth is that the audience is about to discover a lot of twists and surprises.â As immersed as he is in his work, Ryan ends the interview by expressing how grateful he feels to have a community of fans and followers who have always been supporting him. âI cannot fully express the depth of my gratitude to those who have found my work entertaining and have continued to support my career over the years. THANK YOU!â

Author's Note: You guys asked for it, so I gave it! I hope you enjoy! Same song as inspiration. Also I'm thinking after this part I'll write a part 3, and then after that maybe a little epilogue, to wrap this up. Tell me what you think. Also, this is the link to part 1 / and the link to part 3
"Y/n, people change.
"And I can change, too."
You lay on your bed, engulfed in the darkness of the room surrounding you. The darkness seems to go deeper than just your surroundings- deeper, and into you.
Over and over the scene plays through your mind. Those words that Charles had uttered. The way he had clutched your hand in both of his, as if it were his only lifeline. In that moment, the desperation his eyes had denoted was incredible.
Charles, why? Why couldn't you let go? You're making it all so much more complicated.
But you know what he would say. Why? Why, Y/n? Because this isn't just about myself. Don't you see the brokenness in our son? Don't you see it?
Guilt washes over you, and then rage.
I shouldn't be the one feeling guilt. He should. He's the one who messed up our family. He's the one who's fault it is!
The way he cried, though.
The desperation.
The thing is that he is feeling guilty. Or at least so it seemed.
But does he really deserve a second chance? Do you?
Your phone rings at 12:00 A.M. On the dot. Charles has always been on the dot. Unless he's drunk, that is.
Why is he calling?
Right when I'm thinking about him, too.
Although this really isn't too surprising, when you consider it. For the past week and a half or so, you've stayed up until roughly 2:00 in the morning, staring at the ceiling, thinking, unable to convince yourself into peace and slumber.
And now a call comes.
Charles, why?
It feels terrible as you answer. "Charles. Don't call me."
"Y/n," he says in a calm voice. "I'm sorry."
"For what?" you snap, trying to keep it down. Your son is sleeping (hopefully) in the next room.
"For reacting so emotionally. I'm sorry. For years this has weighed on me, but crying and begging won't get us anywhere."
"We're not going anywhere, whether you cry and beg or not." You hang up.
A month after that call where you rejected Charles for what you hoped would be the last time, there's a knock on the door on a Saturday. You walk to it, and freeze when you look through the peephole.
Why is Charles Leclerc here?
Anxiety hits you. The house is a mess, you've got no food to give him, you look like a mess in your pajamas and unbrushed hair-
How can he just show up at your door like this?
It's obnoxious.
You honestly are about to pretend you aren't home, but then Y/s/n suddenly runs in, squealing, "Mama, who is it?! Is it the mailman?"
You sigh at your son's strange fascination for the mailman. You're not completely sure why he enjoys the young, dry, monotone mailman, and for years just assumed because he was generally a nice bloke, and little kids are weird, until you realized with an ounce of dread that the mailman resembles Charles, in a way. After that, you've never encouraged his enthusiasm for the mailman, just in case that was the reason, whether conscious or not.
"No, no," you sigh, unlocking the door. "It's not the mailman, love."
"Who is it, Mama?"
As you swing the door open, you murmur, "Well, love, none other but your father."
"Daddy!" the little boy, still in his Lightning McQueen pajamas, squeals, running to hug his father. You glance away, staring at the floor.
Charles hugs your son, kissing him, and exclaims, "Aw, there's my little buddy! How are you, man?"
"I'm good, Daddy! Are you coming to live here now, Daddy?!"
"Ugh- Not quite..." He picks up your son, and looks to you, immediately saying, "Sorry it's such short notice."
You grit your teeth, murmuring, "You mean no notice?"
"Right," he nods with a quick exhale.
While the presence of your son is a burden for you, preventing you from showing your true feelings, it may be an advantage for Charles, to get across what he needs to get across. Whatever that may be.
Because this is all just a game. Everyone with their own different motives. Y/s/n wants Mama and Daddy to love each other because he wants one place to live. Charles' motives are unknown, but probably are just manipulative and selfish- about making himself feel better. And your motive? You don't want to relive the past, so will avoid Charles at all costs.
Charles' and Y/s/n's motives align more with each other than your's.
You look at your son. Who you love so much. He looks at you with hope. Charles looks at you with... a very similar expression.
These two.
How can you love one and hate the other?
They're both family, as much as you hate to admit it. Because one of them, you wish you could erase.
No. But you don't. Because if you'd never met Charles, Y/s/n would never have been born. And you can't even begin to imagine your life without him.
You hold the door open, and gesture to the couch. "Sit down, Charles. I'm going to get dressed, and then put the kettle on." You say all this through gritted teeth.
How can he just walk in as if he owns the place?
He nods. "Thank you, Y/n." You watch in the doorway to the hall as Charles sits down on the couch with his son on his lap. You watch as he says softly, picking up a toy car from off the rug, "This car is awesome, Y/s/n. Where'd you get it?"
"Mama got it for me! For my birthday!" Y/s/n takes it from his father's hand with much pride, and starts driving it across Charles' chest, up onto his neck, and eventually onto his cheeks. The whole time, Charles laughs, his hand on his son's back to keep him from tipping off his lap.
"That's a super cool car. Does it have a name?"
"Uhhh," Y/s/n frowns. "Zoom! Because he goes zooooom!"
"Oh, it's a he?"
"Of course," Y/s/n says, as if this fact should be obvious. Then he giggles, "Because girls smell."
"They smell?! No way. Girls don't smell."
"Yeah, they do," he crosses his arms, frowning at his father. "You don't know any girls. You only know... Uh, Cah-los."
Charles laughs out loud. "The only person I know is 'Cah-los'?"
"Yep! And Uncle Arthur and Uncle Lorenzo, but that's it!" your son claims in a very matter-of-fact tone.
Their conversation continues, but you finally turn to leave and get yourself fixed up. You quickly shower, brush your teeth and hair, put on moisturizing cream, perfume, and deodorant, and put on a beige hoodie, grey sweatpants, and slides, before going to make tea. The whole time, you mind swirls.
Why is he here? Why is he here on a Saturday? Why is he here, without even asking to come? It's so... obnoxious.
You finish making two cups of tea, finding with awe as you make them that you remember exactly the way Charles likes his tea, and you're doing it automatically.
Because I used to do this so much.
You walk back in with the tea and see the two boys sitting on the rug now. Charles is tickling Y/s/n's tummy, and both of them are laughing- Charles with more of a chuckle and Y/s/n with more of a squealing giggle. When Charles sees you, he slowly stops, saying with a little sigh, "Alright, bud. Mama's back with my tea, and I mean to drink it."
"But Daddyyy!"
"Nope!" he grins, standing up, ruffling his son's messy hair. He then walks to you, and you hand him his tea. He lights up when he tastes the tea and looks at you, muttering softly, "My God, you remembered how I like my tea...?"
"Don't jump to sh*t, Charles," you murmur, soft enough for Y/s/n not to hear.
"Right," he sighs, sitting down again on the couch.
You set your tea down, walking to your son. "Alright, love. I want you to go in your room now, okay? Remember the Lego plane you were building? Why don't you work on that? I want to see it once it's finished, okay? And if you need anything, call, okay? Don't come in here. Just call, and one of us will come."
He looks questioningly. "Why, Mama?"
"Me and your father have important things to talk about. And if you don't listen, there will be consequences."
He blinks, pouting.
"I'll turn on your storybook audio for you. Come on." You bring him to his room and get him set up, until you're sure he's completely distracted with the Legos and the storybook. Only then do you come back to the living room and sit down awkwardly next to Charles.
He's still wearing his red windbreaker from when he was outside, and a black scarf hangs loose around his neck. His hair is a bit messed up, but he looks perfect, like always.
Too perfect.
"Let me take your scarf and jacket. And your shoes."
"Right," he says with a swift nod, handing you his scarf, coat, and sleek black boots. You put them by the door, and sit down, viewing the cozy grey sweater adorning his frame. You have a passing thought, considering how much unnecessary money he might have spent on such a garment.
"So?" you ask in a tense voice. "What is this all about, Charles?"
"There are some things we need to work out. You're right- one of the many things I've done wrong to you is always being a f*cking coward. You're right. I didn't say what was on my mind, and I faked it, and I kept quiet, because I didn't want to upset you. But now I see that the only thing I can do now is speak up, be honest, and be a man. You rightfully left me because I wasn't being a proper man. I wasn't being your proper man. I was being a terrible husband and a terrible father. But now we need to uncover what's true- we both have different views, both of which are likely exaggerated or incorrect in different ways."
"I don't care, Charles," you say quickly, flat out trying to ignore his admittance to wrong. Perhaps because you don't want it to be true. Because if he's sorry, that means you have to forgive him.
"So you're telling me you'd rather believe lies, just because it makes you feel better? What kind of thinking is that?"
You hate to admit that he's right. So you say nothing.
There's silence. But then he says, "So tell me what happened."
"You know what happen-"
"Tell me, Y/n." His voice isn't rude, but definitely firm.
You swallow, shaking your head. You don't want to work this out. You want to forget Charles. But clearly, that's impossible. "You were irresponsible. You'd get drunk, never be home, never help me. I'd be all on my own... You... You'd use me for your own pleasure but never show true, selfless love... Then you came home drunk saying stuff about a pretty woman and sex and getting pregnant... So you cheated... And I divorced you because I couldn't take it any more." You can't believe it, but you're trying not to choke up as you whisper, "Charles, what we had seemed perfect. Until you messed it up." Your mouth tastes like poison.
Charles stares down, his eyes swirling with everything but empty, at the same time. "Y/n," he whispers. "I was terrible. You're right. I was never around because I was immature and scared. I didn't understand. To get away from it, I drank and had fun with friends."
Your lip curls. "You're not the victim."
"And I never said I was! I was scared of being a father. I was scared of messing up. I wasn't ready and I let everything happen too quickly. I was a coward and I left you. Even though you divorced me, I was the one who left you. That's what happened. I was stupid. I was a terrible person. It's all my fault."
"Why would you be any different now? There's no way for you to prove that. Before the marriage you were fine. It was when we married that you went downhill. It was like... you couldn't stand me."
He looks torn apart. "I loved you. I... I... I still do. I knew I wasn't being a good husband or father and to forget about it, I drank."
"And why wouldn't you still do it now?!"
"Because I don't. I feel more guilt now than I did then! I feel more responsibility now than I did then! And that was my greatest fear! Responsibility! But now I don't drink excessively! Now I don't avoid reality! Because I need you... Our son needs us. Together. Don't you need me?"
"Not the you I know."
"You don't know me anymore. I'm not the same person I was." His voice is so uncommonly firm, it slightly shocks you.
You stare into each other's eyes.
He goes on, "That night, I didn't cheat. I was intoxicated. A young woman was trying to seduce me, but I refused because I had you. You, my beautiful wife, both inside and out. I wanted to convey to you that I said no because you were my wife. However, I failed to communicate this properly, and the next morning, I had completely forgotten the conversation. I chose not to tell you because I thought it would be better if you didn't know. I was afraid you would be angrier with me for being in that situation. I was a coward, and I didn't want you to be upset with me. I didn't realize for years that you believed I had cheated. If I had known, I would have assured you that I didn't cheat, just like I am doing now, and that I never would. Because I didn't. Despite all the mistakes I made, cheating on you is something I would never, ever do. I have always loved you, and only you, far too much for that."
Your hands tremble in your lap as you stare at him, listening.
Now you're the one getting emotional.
Charles leans in close to you- too close for comfort- and whispers, "I've changed... Please. I just want a second chance... To right my wrongs and give you and our son the lives you deserve. I need to give my all to you... I need to make it up to you... It's... It's crushing me."
"Why do you need a second chance?" Your voice, for once, isn't aggressive. It's gentle. Softer. Your voice cracks as you say, "You should have done it right the first time."
You see him swallow. "And you know what? I didn't. I f*cked up. I f*cked up everything. I f*cked up your life and I know it. I'm sorry. I wish I could go back in time and fix it and make it all better. I was stupid, Y/n. I was terrible. I hurt the most beautiful woman and her baby in the world. I'm the least." He takes your hand again in both his, but this time it's a gentler grasp.
"But you're not. You're famous. You have so many fans."
"Do you know how many times I've thought I don't deserve all this? If only I could share it all with you."
"Charles," your voice cracks again, and an unexpected, terrible longing fills you. "I want to believe you, but I can't. I'm broken, Charles, because of you. I can't afford to let you break me again..."
A tear rolls down your cheeks, and immediately he reaches up with his thumb, gently wiping your cheek, "No, Y/n, please don't cry... I don't want you to cry because of me any longer... Please..."
"Charles, I can't do this..." more tears fall.
There's hurt and confusion, but mostly longing and guilt in his eyes. "Please... If you'd only trust me, then we could make this right. I could make this right, after all I did wrong."
You can hardly believe yourself as you let your broken, silently crying self fall into Charles. You allow yourself to rest your head on his shoulder, and you allow his arms to wrap around you, giving you his warmth. "Charles..."
"Yes...?" There's a painful hope in his voice.
"I don't know if I can do this..." you cry into his shoulder now.
He whispers right in your ear, "Just give me a chance. Let me be there for you... Let me prove to you... Let me..."
You can't give him a yes or a no. Two sides war inside you- the mask and the face. You feel him stroke your hair as you cry, at the same time as remembering stroking his hair when he was drunk and needed comfort.
This is some sort of paradox, isn't it?
"Charles," you murmur, leaning away after you've gained control of yourself. "The answer is 'I don't know' right now, okay... Consider it... better than hating your guts with an adamant 'no.'"
As he gazes into your eyes, he leans closer. Softly, he places a tender kiss on your cheek and whispers, "I'll be ready whenever you are. And I'll never, ever stop waiting for you."
Weeks pass, and Charles can't understand why, after all that happened that day, still you insist on avoiding him like the plague.
Well, the reason is just that- avoidance. You're avoiding Charles because you don't want to face the possible truth. You're avoiding him because you don't want to make big decisions. You don't want to try again. You don't want to...
Well, you don't want to fall in love again.
And on that day, the way he treated you...
It reminded you of the man you married, and not the man you divorced.
And that scares you. Because you'll never forget the man you divorced.
So you're stubborn and resistent, and you're avoiding him.
So you sit, staring at the screen of your cell phone. Rereading the text on it. Over and over.
Charles Leclerc: I'm sorry for such a long text Y/n but you probably won't read it anyway, so what does it matter? I need to talk with you and you're doing exactly what I've done, what I'm apologizing for. For years I avoided this stuff and one of the reasons we split was that i couldn't stand up and address and tell you my problems. I was being a f*cking coward. And I've said sorry more times than I can count. I thought you might be on the road to forgiveness, to giving me a second chance. I know you felt the same way as me when you leaned into me and let me hold you when you cried- there's something more here, and I don't want you to ignore this. Can't we just try this? Please Y/n? I'm finally willing to step up, be a man, work through all this sh*t with you. Talk about it. I'm finally willing to be brave, and as soon as I am, you're doing the same thing you've yelled at me for years for doing- staying silent.
Charles Leclerc: I love you, Y/n, and this is a problem I desperately want to fix, but the truth of the matter is that you're being a f*cking hypocrite.
Me: How does it feel to be in the position you put me in for years?
You feel mean for typing that, and you're not sure how much you mean it. Maybe you meant to be kinder.
But the anger took over and your thumbs did the talking.
Charles leaves that message on read.
You sit in the cold metal chair, surrounded by pudgy, middle-aged parents and their gross kids all around you as a lone young mother sitting by herself. You're only here to see your son, and none of the other aspects of this situation bring you an ounce of joy.
All of a sudden, a shiver runs down your spine as a firm hand gently lands on your shoulder. Your head snaps up, meeting the gaze of Charles Leclerc. A look of disdain crosses your face, causing your heart to ache as you bluntly ask, "Why are you here?"
Charles takes a seat beside you in the vacant chair and casually remarks, "I've come to attend my son's school concert. And you?" A glimmer of amusement dances in his eyes.
Your jaw tightens in pure irritation, and you manage through gritted teeth in a tense, quiet tone, "Why did you choose to sit next to me?"
Charles hesitates, his expression softening, as he makes an effort to hold your gaze. "Well... Because I..." He swallows and says, "I'm not going to give up on you. That's why. So I figured I'd sit down next to you to watch my- our- son's concert. So..." Abruptly, he reaches for your hand, intertwining his fingers with yours. The veins in his hand are visible as he clasps yours tightly.
Your muscles tense, yet for some reason, you don't pull your hand away.
So throughout the whole school concert, Charles sits, gripping your hand, and seems to refuse to let it go.
And the moment the teacher is done on stage after the little production, thanking people for helping and the kids for doing such a great job and other stuff you don't listen to, Charles turns to you and says, "So, we have some minutes to spare."
Your eyebrows scrunch together. "Come again?"
He chuckles, but it doesn't feel called for. "You weren't listening to her? She said the students can be picked up from their classrooms by their parents in fifteen minutes."
Your jaw clenches again. "Charles, why?"
"Because I know you want it," he says incredibly earnestly. The inside of your heart melts as the outside hardens.
"But I don't think I do."
"But I know you do. Now come on." Your ex-husband stand up, pulling you up with him.
"Where are we going?" you ask. "And please let go of my hand. You've been holding it so long, it's starting to get sweaty."
He clicks his tongue and doesn't respond to either of these, then guides you down various hallways until you reach the school's exit. Finally, he sits down with you on a bench outside the school, and releases your hand.
"What are you doing?"
"Let's just hang out here for the next ten minutes, okay? We should talk," he says awkwardly, facing you.
"I don't get it. Charles, there's nothing you can do to-"
Charles interrupts, holding your face gently, gazing into your eyes. "Please, don't. Don't say that," he pleads, his thumb brushing your cheek. "There's something we can do. We can make this work... Please..."
His desperation, his begging, makes you want to cry. "Please just let it go... Let me go..."
"No, I don't want you to be trapped... Don't you see you'll be more free with me? You won't have to work as hard.. I'll take care of you and our son... I'll take half the work in the house you have to deal with... I'll... We'll... I just want you to believe that we'll be happier... I'm not saying we need to jump to anything today. I'm just saying, let's be kind to each other... Let's go out to eat sometimes, or go to our son's events together. Let's act just a little bit more like a family, even if we aren't yet. I just want to- I need to- I- I- I..." He trails off. His hands fall off your cheeks, and his shoulders slack. His head goes down.
It's like just the hard look in your eyes alone crushed him.
Like that alone is the huge weight he's bearing.
"F*** me, Y/n... F*** me," he whispers, his hands in his lap trembling. "I don't deserve you. I hurt you. Doesn't matter how much I changed. I still have to live through the consequences of my actions, don't I?" He seems to be talking more to himself, but you have no idea at this point. "Just f*** me." He exhales shakily, before suddenly standing up. He stares you right in your eyes, and your heart breaks when you see the hurt, the destroyed desperation. "It's fine, Y/n." He's trying to keep a level face. But his voice cracks. "I'll leave you alone. I'll let you go. I can see all this is just hurting you more. I never meant to hurt you more. I never meant to bring up the past to hurt you. I wanted to help you... I wanted to help you heal..." He drags a hand over his face. "But clearly I f***ing didn't. Clearly I messed it up again. I f***ing messed up again." He swallows. His eyes glimmer with wetness as he practically whispers, "The last thing I want is to hurt you. So I'll drop it. I'm just being selfish again, aren't I? I think this would be better, but you don't. And that's hurting you. And I never wanted to..." He swallows, his nose crunching up. Suddenly he yells, "I never wanted to hurt you ever again, because I love you, for f***'s sake! I love you, but I did hurt you, because, in the end, no matter what, I'm going to f*** it up anyway! So bye, Y/n!" Suddenly he turns on his feet. Like he doesn't want you to see him cry again. But you can hear the tears in his voice when the last thing he calls back is, "It will go back to normal, and we can pretend none of this ever happened! Pretend I'm a stranger! It's the best for you, anyway, apparently, and all I wanted was the best for you!"
You stare in shock as you watch him get in his car and drive away. You remain seated, gaze straight ahead. Tears well up in your eyes, and your body quivers, yet you manage to compose yourself, rise on unsteady legs, and compel yourself to return to the school to pick up your son.
But that just wasn't right.
I should have stopped him. I should have called him back. I should've.
How far can revenge go before it's gone too far?
For days, the guilt, the hurt, the rue- they weigh on you. Every moment of your days, it consumes your thoughts. Regret and confusion and anger fill you in every step, engulfing your every move. And if you thought you weren't getting any sleep before, now it's even worse.
You long to fix it, but you are unsure of how. Despite everything... You can't see how Charles isn't being honest. You want to have faith in him. A small part of you may even want to love him, just a little bit.
You're also fearful. Fearful of reaching out to him, because you don't know what you'd do. You have no idea.
But now you're dropping your son off at Charles's house. You swallow, and suddenly, on a whim, when you see Charles walking outside, waiting for Y/s/n, you get out of the car, too.
"Mama?" your son asks with a confused expression, still maintaining a little smile on his face.
You smile back down at him and say, "I'm walking you up to your daddy's house today, is all."
He shrug and nods, apparently accepting this.
He's such a good kid.
As you approach Charles, your smile twitches while you study him, but you say softly, "Hey, um... I... We..." Your tone sounds weak.
"Yes?" Charles asks, looking up. He looks perfect. As always.
Your eyes lock.
Please, Charles. I don't know how to say this. Please just understand.
His eyes remain blank. You let out a sigh.
And suddenly, you hug him.
Charles seems taken aback for only a moment, before he immediately hugs you back and says softly, "Hey... Want to come inside with me and Y/s/n?"
You nod. "Yes... Yes, please."
So Charles leads the two of you up to his flat. You sit down together on the couch, once again.
Last time you did this was the moment Charles cried out to you.
"Y/n, people change."
You swallow at the memory.
Is this another paradox? This time, will I be the one crying out to him?
Y/s/n is about to hop on the couch between you, but suddenly Charles scoops him up and says, "Hey, hey! I didn't get my hug from you yet, did I?!"
Your son giggles, getting comfortable on his father's lap, before giving him a big hug. "I scored a goal, Daddy..."
"You scored a goal?!" he grins. "Seriously?"
"Yeah! Mama cheered me on! I scored a goal when I played football!"
Charles looks so bright. Happy with his son. So proud. He doesn't get to see him as often as you do. "No way. You've got to be joking. Was it the winning goal?"
"Yep!" your son says proudly.
You find yourself smiling.
"Oh yeah, what was the score?"
Your son shrugs. "Dunno! But we won!"
You smile and mutter softly, "I think it was 4-1." Y/s/n plays in the little league team affiliated with his school.
"Yeah, but my goal made it 2-1, so I won it," he brags to his father.
Charles grins. "Oh, I'm sure it did. You know, I don't know where you got that talent for football from. Do you think Mama is good at football?"
Your son just shrugs with a grin, enjoying the affirmation from his father. "Dunno! But Mama is good at cuddling and playing with me."
Charles laughs. "Yeah, your mama takes good care of you." He glances at you with sparkling eyes, before looking back down at his son.
The two continue babbling on about sports and football and what not, until Charles finally ruffles his son's hair and says, "Well, buddy, I reckon it's time for me and Mama to have some alone time."
Y/s/n frowns. "Aw, why?"
"Because I want to talk with Mama about things that you won't care about. Boring grown-up stuff. Doesn't sound very fun, does it?"
Y/s/n shrugs, still looking uncertain.
"Hey, don't look so down. How about this? I'll go put on Cars for you. How's that sound?"
Your son grins at this, immediately jumping up, his demeanor changing abruptly. "Yeah, yeah!" he squeals, and you watch as Charles leaves with him to go set him up with that in another room.
But soon Charles is back. He gently shuts the door behind him as he enters the room, and immediately sits down next to you, facing you once more. "Hey, Y/n..." he says in a tentative but gentle tone.
You swallow. "Hey, Charles..." You feel yourself getting nervous again. "You're so... You're so good with Y/s/n."
He smiles. "You are, too."
There's no, And I'm sure we'd be even better with him together.
Charles meant it when he said he'd give up on it.
But you move closer to him. You take his hands. "This is a lot for me, Charles. I'm scared. I'm having issues with trust."
He nods slowly. "I know... I know..."
You swallow, and hug him again.
He holds you, hugging you back. He kisses your cheek. He whispers, "I understand if you're afraid. I understand if you're scared, or if you're having issues with trust. I'm so deeply sorry I've broken you like that."
Y/n, people change. And I can change.
The words come crashing into your mind like a ton of bricks, emerging from the depths of your memory.
"Charles-" you break in, your voice cracking. "Those words have haunted me."
"What words...?" he mutters softly.
You swallow. Breathe slowly. And you whisper, "You said to me 'Y/n, people change. And I can change.'"
"I have changed," he whispers.
"But," your voice cracks. "You said a lot of other s***, too. I remember, during our honeymoon..." A tear rolls down your face as Charles continues to hold you. "You said I'm yours and you're mine. You said we'd be forever. You said you'd do anything for me. You said we'd have three kids together, and you'd never stop loving me, and we would be a happy family. You said we'd grow old together, Charles. That's what you said. But all those promises- they were broken... They were broken."
"You didn't want them to be," he whispers calmly. "But don't you realize? Perhaps those promises were not broken, but rather, they have just not yet been fulfilled."
You look up at him, blinking. More tears roll down your cheeks. Charles gently wipes them away.
"I want to be able to fix what I did wrong. I want to be able to fulfill those promises I made to you. That's what I want, Y/n."
"Charles..." you breathe.
He looks so perfect.
"Yes?" he asks gently.
Your lip quivers, and you lean into his shoulder, and you sob.
And he lets you.
For however long, he holds you there, rubbing your back, letting you weep. Finally, you get a hold of yourself, and slowly pull away. You wipe your wet eyes with the backs of your hands, before sighing. "Charles, if we were to do this... If I were to give in..." You sniff. Your voice cracks again as you utter, "Please, don't hurt me again. I can't survive it again. I can't let you put me through that again..."
He pulls you to him again and whispers in your ear, "I won't. I won't. I won't let you down this time. Please don't be afraid of me... I want to love you... Let me love you... If you'll just let me, we can fix this... We have have a relationship in which we communicate more. Oh, Y/n..." he sighs. "Don't you realize how much I care? I- I would give my life for you."
You blink, staring at him.
Everything looks so promising. That's why you're scared.
It almost looks too promising.
"You say you would give your life for me. But would you really? Maybe you would you give your life for me if it meant losing it. But would you give your life to me while you're still alive? Would you clean the dishes? Would you help me when I'm sick? Would you grab an extra ingredient from the store if I needed it? Would you drive Y/s/n to school when you could? Would you really? You're gone half the year, as it is."
His jaw clenches, then un-clenches. "I would do anything and everything I could do for you. I want to share my life for you. Until death. And I'm one hundred percent sure on that. I've had years of thinking about this." There's hope in his lovely eyes.
So much hope.
You sigh, staring down at your lap.
"Y/n. I'm sorry. Please. Not only do I need your forgiveness. But your son does, too." He hesitates. "And I hope you know no matter what happens, the guilt of what I've done to you will weigh on me my whole life. That's why I want to fix it."
You gently slip your hand in his and whisper, "Please don't hurt me."
He wraps his fingers around your hand, holding it. "I won't."
You nod slowly, another tear rolls down your cheek, and it feels like all the molecules in your body are being ripped apart as you barely whisper, "Okay, Charles. We can try this again."

CHAPTER SIX | âđđđđ đđ đđđđđđâ
Fall Semester 2015
You spent most of the morning replaying everything that happened last night. Most of it came back to you in fragmentsâ you and Eddie leaving the obnoxious frat party and you actually ending up in your own dorm room for once because your roommate was already gone for Winter break.
But the kiss was immediately vivid to you.Â
It had ended just as abruptly as it started. Eddieâs lips were against yours for only a second before you two were getting bumped into again by a random person and subsequently pulling away from each other.Â
But, as brief and short as it was, it still happened, and all you could think when you woke up was that it had to mean something. Right?Â
Maybe this was finally the moment that youâd been waiting for. The perfect time to be honest and admit how you felt about him.Â
You both had been too drunk to talk about it properly last night. After the quickly interrupted kiss, you were once again saying that it would probably be best to leave and Eddie was nodding, hand finding yours and leading you out of the house and away from the party.  Â
But you were, for the most part, sober nowâ the only lasting effect from last night was a dull headacheâ and you surprisingly didnât feel all too scared to talk to him. Therefore, you were heading across the hall and knocking on his door before you could think better of it.Â
âHey,â Eddie said when he opened his door, smiling at you. He had on a wrinkled t-shirt and sweatpants and was sporting the messiest bedhead that looked very cute to you. âI didnât expect to see you until later. I thought weâd both be dead for most of the morning.â
âI canât sleep. My headâs pounding, but I donât feel like throwing up anymore so thatâs a good sign,â You told him as you mindlessly played with a loose string on your t-shirt that looked just as wrinkled as his. âDid I wake you?â
âNo, I canât really sleep either,â Eddie answered and opened the door further so that you could step inside his room.Â
You sat at the foot of his small twin-sized bed and folded your legs under you, looking down at your hands instead of at Eddie walking over to you. âSo, last night was pretty insane, right?â
âYeah, I think we can both agree on no more frat parties,â He responded as he sat next to you.Â
You nodded. âFirst and last time.â
âAlso, I barely remember anything that happened, so we should also agree on no more drinking whatever punch is given at parties.â
Instead of once again nodding and agreeing, you turned your head to look at him. âReally? Nothing?â
âI remember us getting there and then eventually leaving. Most of the stuff in between is a blur, honestly,â He shrugged. âWhat about you?â
That time you werenât hesitating to nod along. âYeah, same here. Itâs all kinda blurry.âÂ
He didnât remember.Â
He didnât remember the kiss.Â
He barely remembered the party at all.Â
For some reason, it felt easier to simply let it stay like that rather than inform him of something that his mind clearly told him to forget.Â
âIâm still driving you to the airport tonight, right?â Eddie asked, changing the subject and pulling you out of your scattered thoughts. Going home for the rest of the month until the start of the Spring semester was the farthest thing from your mind right then.Â
âOh, yeah,â You sighed. âI completely forgot about that.â
âIâll take that as youâre not excited to see your parents?â
âNot particularly, no,â You shook your head. âAnd Iâll just be seeing my dad during break because my mom is on a trip with her new boyfriend.âÂ
âThat sounds fun?âÂ
You let out a laugh. âOnce again, not really, no.â
He smiled at you. âYou can always come hang out with me in my hometown during break. My uncle would be fine with you staying with us.âÂ
âI really wish I could say yes to that.â
In a perfect world, you wouldâve said yes to Eddieâs suggestion; canceled your flight, and spent the month with him in his small hometown. And in an even more perfect world, you wouldâve still talked about the kiss with him even though he didnât remember it. You also wouldâve told him how youâd been feeling for the past few months instead of now feeling like you were right back to being stuck at square one.Â

Spring Semester 2018
âRemember on game night when you said that youâre good at making people like you?â You abruptly asked Steve, and when he nodded in answer, you continued. âWell, I feel like Iâm the complete opposite. So tell me everything that I need to know about your parents on this hour-long car ride so I can make sure they like me.â
âI donât think thatâs true,â Steve said, shaking his head, and before you could protest his words, he kept talking. âBut, okay, do you want me to be a thousand percent honest right now?âÂ
âWill I want you to take me home if I say yes?â You asked as you smoothed out a nonexistent wrinkle on the dress you were wearing; a black dress that buttoned down the front and stopped just above your knee. You hoped it was a good enough choice for meeting Steveâs parents.
âMaybe.â
For a second, you considered telling him to not be honest with youâ because maybe in this situation ignorance would actually be blissâ but you ultimately decided against it. âItâs fine, whatever, be honest.âÂ
âThey probably wonât like you because youâre not the daughter of one of their rich friends.âÂ
âSo this is a lose-lose situation no matter what?âÂ
âKinda, yeah,â He responded with a shrug. âBut, itâs not like theyâre gonna force me to break up with you or something. Theyâre just happy that Iâm finally in a âseriousâ relationship, and thatâs all that really matters.â
âHonestly, that makes me feel a little bit better,â You said as you leaned back against the passenger seat and actually became comfortable for the first time in the past ten minutes. âOkay, so what lies do I need to know? Like, what story did you tell them about how we got together? Or do we need to come up with one right now?â
âThey wonât care about that.âÂ
âOkayâŠâ You responded, not exactly believing that a question as simple as that wouldnât be asked, but you went along with what Steve was saying anyway. âSo, any other lies? Things I should make sure to say to them, or things that I definitely shouldnât say?â
âThey donât know about my History minor, so avoid mentioning that.â
The obvious follow-up question to his words sat on the tip of your tongue, but you hesitated. You wondered where the line wasâ the line that defined what you two wereâ and which side of it the question you wanted to ask him lied on. One side of it was obvious, two people pretending to date each other for their own reasons, but the other side still confused you a bit; this weird group project analogy that was still stuck in your head and felt nowhere close to a friendship because you still didnât know that much about him aside from the basics.
The question you wanted to ask him was definitely more of a question that youâd ask a friend and you werenât sure if it truly mattered for the fake dating side of things, but you decided to test it anyway because you wanted to know the answer.
âWhy havenât you told them about that?â
Steve hesitated too, just for a second, and in that quick moment you wondered if you shouldnât have asked that question, but then he was answering you. âThey would think itâs dumb and a waste of time so itâs easier to just not talk about it with them.â Â
âIf theyâd hate you for having a History minor, theyâll definitely hate me for being an English major who wants to teach.â
He took a quick glance at you. âYou want to teach?â
âYeah, I think about it sometimes,â You shrugged. âIâd really love to write, though. And yes, I know exactly how pretentious that sounds.â
Steve shook his head. âIt doesnât sound pretentious.â He paused for a second. âActually, yeah, it does, but coming from you itâs in a good way.â
âThanks, I think,â You responded, laughing a bit.
He smiled at you. âYouâre welcome, I think.â
For the most part, that was how the rest of the drive went. You asked whatever question came to mind involving his parents that felt important to ask to make sure that tonight went well enough, and aside from that, things stayed quiet.Â
Somehow, it wasnât until you were standing outside of his childhood homeâ which was huge and you tried your hardest not to admire it so obviouslyâ that you realized that you didnât even know his parentâs names, and Steve was answering you with a quick, âTom and Anne,â before you two were walking inside.
.ă»ă.ă»ăâă».ă»â«ă»ăă»ă. .ă»ă.ă»ăâă».ă»â«ă»ăă»ă
âSo, Iâd love to know how you two met.â
Your eyes immediately met Steveâs across the table and you gave him the briefest âI told you soâ look before turning to his mom.Â
You took a moment to think about how to answer her questionâ how elaborate the story should be and what exact lie you should sayâ but then you decided to simply say the first thing that came to mind. âSteveâs in a class with one of my friends. He thought weâd be a good match, so he introduced us.â
It wasnât that far from the truth so the words easily fell from your lips.
Anne smiled at that. âOh, thatâs nice.â
You smiled back because it felt like the right thing to do and then looked back down at your food, silently willing the next hour to go by faster.
The initial meeting had been easy enough. There was a quick hug with Steveâs mom and a handshake with his dad, and a forced enthusiastic smile on your face to mask your nervousness. You were reminded of when you met Eddieâs Uncle Wayne, and you only thought about it because that had felt like much more of a chill and fun introduction.Â
But as the night went on, Steveâs parents seemed to actually like you and it was hard to tell if that was completely true or if they were just really good at pretending; both options seemed equally plausible to you. Even though Steve had basically said that there was no point in trying to make his parents like you, you still couldnât help but try to make sure that things went well.Â
Theyâd asked you so much about yourself that it felt as if they were interrogating you or that you were interviewing for their approval; approval that truly didnât even matter, but you still weirdly found yourself wanting it, for some reason. Â
You did a lot more lying than you had expected to doâ and youâd later wonder if it was dumb to not expect thatâ but the lying mainly consisted of a lot of pretending and acting like you knew stuff that you didnât. This night only further proved to you that you really didnât know Steve at all. You learned that he used to play basketball in high school and even Freshman year of college, and apparently, he had been really good at it. His dad randomly mentioned it and you figured that that was something that a girlfriend wouldâve already known about so you simply nodded along when he talked about Steveâs many past accomplishments with the sport.
You also nodded along when Anne said, âHas Steve told you about his cousinâs wedding thatâs coming up soon?â
âOh, yes, he mentioned it to me a few times.â
âGreat, so you already know that it falls perfectly on your guysâ spring break this year,â She said, and you continued to nod, pretending as if this wasnât completely new information to you. âYou should come to it too.â
You didnât get the chance to even think of a response before Steve was jumping in. âShe canât come.â
Anne looked at him just for a second and then looked back at you. âAre you sure you canât? Weâll pay for your flight and everything.â
âOh, umâŠâ You trailed off, unsure of how to say no in the nicest way possible. You knew why Steve had immediately tried to shut this wedding thing downâ because spring break was weeks after you two had planned to stop fake datingâ but you obviously couldnât use that as the reason to say no to his mom right then.
âShe already has plans for that week,â Steve said, saving you.Â
It wasnât that good of a save, though, because Anne persisted on, eyes still on you and a smile on her face. âOh, Iâm sure plans can be changed. This wedding is gonna be a great trip, and wouldnât you two want to spend spring break together?â
The question sat in the air for only the briefest of moments.Â
âYes, Iâd love to come,â You blurted because it felt easier to say yes in this moment instead of continuing to try to decline the offer since Steveâs mom was seemingly not taking that for an answer. You still had no idea where exactly this wedding even was, and you decided that that would be the first thing youâd ask Steve once you two were back in his car. âIf youâre sure itâs not really short notice.â
âNo, no, itâs fine. Tom and I will handle everything. We just need to get you a flight. You can obviously stay with Steve in the room thatâs already been booked for him at the resort.â
Hearing the mention of a resort shouldâve helped you narrow down the potential places this wedding was set to be, but it only further confused you. However, you smiled and hoped that masked all of your bewilderment right then. âSounds great. Thank you so much.â
You looked away from Anne and your eyes met Steveâs just for a second. It was the briefest look shared between you two that said everything and nothing all at once. And then you were looking away and finishing what was barely left on your plate so that this night could end sooner rather than laterâ before you somehow accidentally agreed to spend Thanksgiving with them in nine months.
.ă»ă.ă»ăâă».ă»â«ă»ăă»ă. .ă»ă.ă»ăâă».ă»â«ă»ăă»ă
âIâll try to get you out of this stupid wedding thing,â Was the first thing Steve said to you when you two finally left his house and got into his car.Â
Youâd barely known his mom for two hours, but the thought of that actually happening felt pretty impossible to you.  Â
âDo you really think that you can make that happen?â
He sighed. âProbably not.âÂ
âItâs not that big of a deal,â You told him, and you were honestly surprised that you were able to be so normal about this because it actually was a bit of a âbig deal.â And then you realized that you were attempting to convince yourself that this was fine as much as you were trying to convince him. âWe can change the rules a little and just end things once spring break is over instead of when we originally planned to end it. Whatâs two extra weeks? Unless youâre already sick of me and are counting down the days until all of this is over.âÂ
Steve didnât say anything in response, but he did quickly glance at you, giving you the most deadpan look youâd probably ever seen. Which only made you laugh until you remembered something.
âWhere is this wedding even gonna be?âÂ
âMexico.â
âI guess Iâd be an idiot if I gave up a free trip to Mexico.â
âYouâre underestimating how annoyingly intense my family is. This isnât going to feel like a vacation.â
âCool, great, now Iâm a little scared,â You said, only slightly joking with your words. âBut, itâll be fine, and this will just further prove to your parents how âseriousâ we are.â
After a second, seemingly processing your words, Steve nodded. âYeah, thatâs true.â
It started raining thenâ soft pelts hitting against the windshield and the wipers turning on automaticallyâ which felt like a sign of something, but you had no idea what.Â
âI also donât have to go if you donât want me to,â You said, and things probably wouldâve been a lot easier if Steve just said exactly that and if things stayed exactly according to what you two had decided on a week ago.
âItâs not that. I just really think youâre gonna hate this whole thing.âÂ
âTonight honestly wasnât completely terrible,â You told him. âStressful? Kinda, yeah. But, if the trip is pretty much just gonna be a repeat of this dinner, I can deal with that.âÂ
You hadnât even processed what exactly you were signing up forâ a weeklong trip in a different country with a guy and his family you didnât know. It would hit you a lot later; mainly once you mentioned it to Robin, Vickie, and Talia, and then also Eddie.Â
âOkay,â Steve said and you wished that you could actually see him right then because you felt as if there was a lot more being said with the simple word. But then you were realizing that even if it wasnât dark and rainy and even if he was looking at you, you still probably wouldnât be able to successfully read him. After all, youâd only known him for a little over a week. âFeel free to back out at any time, though.âÂ
âGot it,â You said, but you wondered if your mind would change and if youâd want to do that. âWhy do you think she even wants me to come?âÂ
âShe likes you.â
âActually likes me or is pretending that she does?âÂ
âHonestly, I canât really tell.â
The rain only got harder as Steve continued driving, which you were actually glad for because the sound of it helped drown out the silence that began to sit between you two and it made the quiet feel okay. But, that feeling was very short-lived because the random storm started making things entirely too complicated.Â
âI can just take you home and bring your clothes some other time,â Steve suggested. The rain was pelting harshly against the windshield as the two of you sat in his car in the parking lot of his apartment building.Â
âThat would be great, but I canât think of any sort of story that would make me coming home in completely different clothes make sense.â
Earlier, when Talia asked what you and Steve had planned for the night, you made the mistake of saying that you and him were going bowlingâ it was the first thing that came to your mind and you regretted it immediately but couldnât find a way to backtrack. Because of that mess up, you knew that you couldnât leave the apartment for the pretend bowling date in your âmeeting the parentsâ outfit, so you changed at Steveâs place instead and your original clothes were still there.
âAlso, weâre already here now, so I should just do it.âÂ
âOkay,â He said, but neither of you made any move to step out of his car, even though he had already turned it off. Somehow, it was silently agreed that youâd wait things out for a second longer, and maybe the skies would miraculously clear.Â
âI still canât believe that you said that we were going bowling.âÂ
âI have no idea why that was the first thing that came to my head.âÂ
âAre you any good at it?â
âNot at all,â You didnât hesitate to answer. âBut, skee-ball, on the other hand. Thatâs a completely different story.â
âThose two games are not similar at all.âÂ
âIf you squint, they kind of are.â
âBarely.âÂ
âShh, just let me have this one,â You said, and Steve let out a laugh as he held up his hands in mock surrender.Â
Things became quiet for a moment and you both continued to listen to the rain, which didnât seem as if it was letting up anytime soon.Â
He turned to look at you. âShould we just make a run for it?â
You wanted to say no but decided against it when you realized that you two would probably be sitting in Steveâs car all night otherwise. âYeah.â
There was no countdown, and instead, you both abruptly stepped out of the car and then ran the short distance to the entrance of Steveâs building, still getting soaked in the process.Â
Once you were inside his apartment, you toed off your shoes by the front door before heading to Steveâs bathroom where you had left your clothes earlier.Â
âYou want a towel?â You heard his voice through the door and at first you were simply nodding as you started unbuttoning your dress before realizing that he obviously couldnât see your answer.Â
âYes!â You opened the door a little bit and his arm poked through, gray towel in hand, and you grabbed it from him. âThanks.â
When you emerged from the bathroomâ changed back into your jeans and dark sweaterâ you saw Steve in the kitchen, leaning back against the small island and eyes on his phone. He was also out of his wet clothes and changed into a t-shirt and sweatpants.Â
You walked over to the windows and noticed just how insane things still were outside. âIt would be dumb to drive in that right now, right?âÂ
You kind of hoped that he would disagree with you, but he didnât.
âYeah, we can wait it out for a bit if you want.âÂ
âOkay.â
You found yourself on his couch and he joined you moments later, suggesting that you two watch something for the time being and you agreed because there wasnât anything else to do.Â
It was a moment that was objectively normal, probably one of the most normal things that you two could and had ever done with each other, but doing this wasnât a part of the normal that you and Steve had created.Â
Conversations with him came easy if you two were talking about this whole fake dating thing and the random details and tidbits that came along with it. If there wasnât anything to say involving that, you two simply didnât talk. Once again, the group project analogy felt even more valid at this moment.Â
Steve started playing an episode from a random season of a show that you both had already seen before and didnât mind rewatching until the rain calmed down. You were only ten minutes in when your phone started ringing in the back pocket of your jeans.Â
You pulled it out and stood up from the couch, seeing Robinâs name on your screen.Â
You walked back over to the windows, the rain still had not let up in the slightest, and then answered the call. âHey.â
âHey, where are you right now?â
âAt Steveâs place,â You answered. âIâm gonna head home soon, though.â
âDonât,â She said, and before you could ask why, she continued. âWe just lost power here because of the storm so you should just stay at Steveâs for the night.âÂ
âAre you guys good there?â
âYeah, we just lit a bunch of candles,â Robin told you and then laughed. âItâs feeling very witchy in here right now. I wouldnât be surprised if Talia suggested doing a seance.âÂ
âPlease donât do that,â You immediately responded. âIâd rather not come back to a haunted apartment.âÂ
âI canât make any promises. Talia can be very persuasive,â She said. âAnyway, see you tomorrow. Have fun, but not too much. And use protection!â
You groaned. âRobin.âÂ
âBye!â She hung up before you could say anything else.
You pocketed your phone in your jeans again and started heading back over to the couch.Â
âEverything okay?â Steve asked, turning to look at you.Â
âYeah, it was just Robin. She told me that the power just went out in the apartment,â You told him, and then you were in the middle of thinking about how to tell him that you needed to stay here for the night when there was a sudden crack of thunder and the power abruptly went out, leaving his apartment pitch black. âWow, perfect timing.âÂ

do you have anything you recommend reading that's like. long and achey and romantic? for the sake of escapism..
i don't read a lot of long stories, but i did just scroll through my ~400 bookmarks looking for the longest ones and throw together a collection of stories that i loved tho whether they are long or achy or romantic is ofc up to debate, but i did at the very least go, "oh i think i loved this one" and i definitely had it marked as a rec
please please make sure to read all the available tags/warning/information/etc before reading anything bc i am only throwing the most minimal information in here, the ones with stars are stories i frequently reference to other people or think about a lot or have inspired me to write versions of them in some way, also a lot of these i have not re-read in YEARS but i know i loved them when i read them, so!
okay, love you, hope at least one of these hits the mark for you <3

PAIRING âž Choi Yeonjun x reader
SUMMARY âž On a hazy summer evening, where the air hung low above everyone like a buzzing, heated static, you met Choi Yeonjun in a new light. And he met you, not for the first time maybe, but definitely in a more impacting way. A second, first meeting. And with that second, first meeting came the idea to strike a deal - a mutual agreement to help both parties out favorably, till the end of summer. Luckily, or unluckily, it just so happens that the summer doesn't last forever.
GENRE âž strangers to lovers, highschool au, fake dating au, suggestive scenes, includes kissing, jock Yeonjun, kinda nerdy (?) reader (they're friends with Soobin and Beomgyu if that helps), fluff with angst, includes underage drinking and swearing.
PLAYLIST âž High School in Jakarta by NIKI, I Like Me Better by Lauv, Bubble Gum by NewJeans, Ghosting by TXT, Ditto by NewJeans, small town by Clara Benin.
WC âž 12.9K words
A/N âž She's finally here đđ„č I'm quite proud of this one guys. It's loosely based off my own high school relationship (which unfortunately, didn't end as great as this fic did). It's also my first time writing such a long story, and I hope you guys enjoy reading it as much as I did writing it, and please do let me know how you guys felt about it. Love you!!
PART OF THE ANTHOLOGY SERIES
The world as you know it is ending. Thereâs meteors and asteroids crashing down, balls of fire and smoke rapidly descending on your world. The world youâd built since middle school.Â
Not the world as we know it, of course. No, the world with its 8 billion population and sprawling cities and countries wasnât coming to an end - but it was your world, with its own islands and own niches coming down to debris rapidly.Â
Your world meant the things you did - it meant how you stayed up all night on school nights to play Minecraft with Soobin and Beomgyu, your two closest friends since childhood. It means the music you listened to. Usually that included whatever preppy tune that used to overtake the charts. The One Direction boysâ perfect harmonies were all the rage of 2014. Justin Bieber had the hearts of young girls by the fist. But that was middle school. That was 2014, which ended a few months ago. 2015 was the incoming year of the new batch of freshmen in their townâs high school. 2015, and thereâs new artists and new bands and new games. Itâs 2015 and the world you crafted with wide-eyed dreams and glitter pens is over, and the swooping lurch of reality hits you square in the chest just as the summer heat settles over everyone.Â
The First Summer - summer before freshman yearÂ
âSoobin, can you pay attention maybe? Fucking hell.â Beomgyuâs loud usually. Beomgyuâs louder when irritated however. And today he decided to be loud, irritated and angry, and the unnecessary screaming match between Soobin and Beomgyu was just the strike of the match of patience you had needed. âEnough!â Seriously, if youâre gonna fight this much, just beat each other up! Iâd rather have you both in battle than this silly screaming match.â Your voice is shrill and the annoyance is heavy. Yet, it does nothing to affect the pair. Instead, all they did was give short laughs. âYou canât shout at us like that you '', the pouty eyes and whining tone of Beomgyu softened you up immediately, and you grinned back with a retaliation ready. âBeomgyu, let Soobin text his sweetheart next door, or else heâll wilt like a plant deprived of sunlight.â The statement leaves the both of you in a fit of giggles the moment the entire sentence left your lips, and left Soobin to be the pouting one this time. âWhat do you both even know? To be in love with someone?â, the dramatics were oozing off Soobin, the sore subject of his very strong feeling for his next door neighbor making him more susceptible to teasing from you and Beomgyu. âAnd what do you know? You havenât confessed either!â, accusatory, as you told him. It would be wonderful, absolutely delightful for Soobin to pull up his big boy pants and finally ask the other girl out. Not only because theyâd make a delightful couple, but also because maybe heâd shut up about the qualms of unrequited (which honestly was quite requited if he just stopped being so blind) love.Â
âHowâs the existential crisis popping along, you? Are we still the lamest duo you could hang out with that will kill your nonexistent street cred?â. Chucking a throw pillow at the boy, you sighed, the dramatics being your concern now. âYou guys donât get it, do you? This is highschool. The real deal. The next four years of peopleâs cherished memories.â âYou want to peak in highschool badly, donât you?â âShut up Soobin!â
They wouldnât get it. They wouldnât get how highschool mattered to you. How being 15, then 17, then 18 happens only once in life. Youâre young in love as a teenager once, and youâre living life on the cusp only one. Romanticizing highschool was a silly cliche, and you were by no means a daydreaming romantic (Eh, maybe sometimes). But living, to experience, to feel, to love, meant something to you. It meant something to the little girl who watched those romcoms in the darkness of her room on a blue light screen. Watching how wonderful guys fell in love with wonderful girls. Watching how the boy loved the girl regardless of status quo. High School was a lake and you were a small pebble ready to skim its surface with accuracy and precision.Â
âAre you Machiavelli or something? Stop making that scheming face, seriously. Itâs giving me the creeps Iâll be honest. This just resulted in another pillow to the face.
The summer heat, a slow wave of buzzing energy that rolled over the entire town, made most of its residents lethargic. But lethargy wasnât an option for 15 year olds, especially 15 year olds in the Y/L/N household. Several nags and a good scolding from your mother had you working at the convenience store two blocks down. A job that you were certain of, might just be the first of its kind in the way it could kill the employee of boredom. âAt least you get the AC. And us!â. Huening Kai was an absolutely wonderful person. Honestly, there was no way to say anything negative according to you, which made Taehyun roll his eyes often. The two boys would frequent the store often. The first day because Kai was craving an ice pop to battle the heat. But once the pair had seen you prettily working the register all by your lonesome, and the boys not having anything interesting to while away their time with, began to visit you on your shifts, eating the almost expired stock and chitchatting.Â
Even from the corny sentence Kai had just said, you could only bring herself to frown, but not get annoyed at the sunshine boy. The summer reinvention was in full swing. Calling it a reinvention made you uncomfortable sometimes. It was just a few tweaks right? Itâs not like you were going to lose yourself completely. A harmless fine-tuning of the machinery, shinier gears and fancier covering.
Convenient store afternoons were idyll - no customers, and usually no Kai and Taehyun, whoâd take the most deep afternoon naps they could take. Today, however, theyâd decided to forego the naps, and they hung around the back, to analyze which candy was the best for the summer.Â
You're sitting at the till, bright light shining right through the spotless plexiglass, hair gently swooping over your face, illuminating the strands. Thereâs a slight breeze from the droning AC that cools whatever sweat was beading your forehead. A lazy afternoon, light and airy, with the low hanging summer making the world around simmer like a boiling pot. It was this afternoon, that the bell tinkled as the convenience storeâs door opened, the sound jingling faintly over the sound of buzzing cicadas and grasshoppers. It was this afternoon, uneventful like the rest, until it wasnât - that you looked up to meet the eyes of Choi Yeonjun.Â
âAny ice cream?â, the older boy asked, eyes shining like two pebbles under a clear lake on a summerâs day. Breaking out of your stupor, you just nodded, a bit frantic considering how you were caught in such an awkward way. Brushing whatever hair that had surrounded your face, you got up with a slight metallic screech of the chair you sat at, stumbling to where the freezer was. Opening up the box, you gestured to an assortment of cold treats that were laid out for the customers. Humming to himself, Yeonjun just scanned the ice creams, then shifted his eyes to you. You, who was already staring at his sharp side profile, the way the sunlight seemed to poke out from the sharp bridge of his nose to the way his lips seemed more plump than they were with the way he was chewing at them. Making eye contact with him, he simply asked with a slight smirk, âWhat do you suggest?â. âHuh?â, you asked dumbly, not catching his question with the way you were busy ogling the older boy. âWhich flavor do you like?â, âOh! Personally, Iâd say you can never go wrong with chocolate. The chocolate chip choco cones are wonderful for this season. But if you need something to beat the heat, a lime popsicle would be the best.â âYou seem to have a PhD in ice cream.â, the boy teased, as he eyed the way your cheeks grew warmer and your pupils widening slightly at his jest. âOh sorry if that was too much! Um yeah, I guess th-thatâs my suggestion.â, hurriedly avoiding his eyes and going back to gesturing at ice creams. A pale veiny hand reached into the ice box to pick out two ice creams - a choco chip cone and a lime-berry popsicle. Slightly waving the two at you with a smile, he proceeded to strut up to the counter, head turned back at you as he said with a voice that made your heart constrict and release butterflies, â Why not both then? Canât go wrong with recommendations from the master, can I?â. If it wasnât obvious before, it was quite obvious now. You were absolutely enamored by Choi Yeonjun. Hurrying up to the counter and reciting his bill, he paid the money and a bit extra with a wink, for the âpretty cashier at the register who has a thesis on sweet treats.â. And just as easily heâd appeared, with a flirtatious smile and charm to knock any girl off her feet, Yeonjun was gone from the store, with ice cream and quite possibly your senses and bearings. âTweedleDee and TweedleDum, you can come out now. I can see the tops of your head. I can also feel your annoying presenceâ, you groaned as a sheepish Hueningkai and Taehyun appeared, both clamoring about how they didn't âmean to eavesdropâ and how âthey were leaving the back store room when they say the interaction between you and Yeonjun take place.â But honestly, that wasnât your biggest concern right now. The two kids were harmless, anyways. What concerned you was how the image of those dazzling eyes wouldnât leave your head. How smooth his voice was when he spoke to you. For someone ready to break out of the daydream land you found yourself in, Choi Yeonjun was insistent to keep you under. And for him, maybe going breathless was worth it.Â
The Second Summer - summer before junior year
Itâs 2018 and itâs the end of your life. Well, to be fair, your life has been âendingâ since freshman year, and your two friends have been watching you become the one who cried wolf every single time. âYou donât get it Soob,â with the cellphone perched on your shoulder, âI donât know how you and Beomgyu arenât freaking the hell out right now.â Soobin lets out a disinterested hum, deciding to conference Beomgyu in, because why would he be the sole victim to this torture? Sitting down on the bed with a force and a breath of indignation leaving your lips, you just continue your rant. âSoobin and Beomgyu. This is the year it gets real. College prep. Entrance exams. Volunteering and extracurriculars. Donât you get it? At least Rin gets it. Rinâs with me-â âAnd that must suck for you, Soobinâ a teasing Beomgyu interrupted, while Soobin stayed wordless, probably sulking behind the phone, too pouty to retaliate. This sudden remembrance made you laugh, and joining in on the fun, you said, âYeah Soobs, how have you still not gotten the balls to ask her out?â, but you regretted the words that came out of your mouth, immediately anticipating what was coming and what's next. And just as you predicted, Soobin launched off on his monologue, âCrushing on Yeonjun isnât a problem then huh? What about that? Youâve spent a year and half pining for the most wanted guy in the school, Y/N? Isnât that funny?â, all the words spilling out in a single breath of a sentence. âAlright Soobin, Iâll lay off your case if you lay off mine. Besides, itâs easier to target Beomgyu, no?â. And with that the bickering went off again, but you wouldnât have it any other way.Â
A lot has changed since that summer in freshman year, with the chance encounter with Yeonjun. For one, you stopped working there the moment summer ended, which disheartened you slightly considering you would see less of Huening Kai and Kang Taehyun, the two boys youâd grown quite fond of in this short span of time. But the missing soon expired the moment the duo entered highschool themselves in your sophomore year, growing slightly closer to your friend group despite the yearâs gap in age. They were the new addition along with Rin, Soobinâs neighbor and longtime crush, to your lunch table. A moment in time where SAT scores and classes, crushes and heartbreaks ceased to exist, and it was just your friends and you, suspended in an emulsion of feelings of friendship, and youth.Â
Another thing that had changed since that summer was you yourself. Though your reinvention didnât go the way you had planned - you still had matured. The crybaby 14 year old had grown into someone who knew how to stand up for themselves. The same person whoâd spend nights crying because of mismatched schedules was moving up the academic ladder.Â
And reappearing on that same lunch table on the first day of sophomore year, and then sticking it out till the end of the academic swing, with a whole new set of expectations crammed into binders and assignments, and the promise of new memories to make, was your friend group and you - a couple of kids ready to take on the world. Hand in hand, laughter shared and fondness obvious, it was going to be a good summer. You could feel it, in the jokes Beomgyu shared and the shrieking laugh Kai let out without fail. Grinning along to their antics, your eyes scanned the lunchroom.
One thing hadnât changed with the seasons, and that was your fascination with the schoolâs IT boy, Choi Yeonjun. A wonderful enigma - athletic, kind and good looks all combining to create the most perfect gentleman you in your years of living had had the chance of meeting. He sat at the table diagonal to yours, and with a piercing heart did you remember that with all the changes, Yeonjun changed too - in the sense that heâd gotten a girlfriend. A girlfriend whom he adored, which was obvious to anyone with two eyes. 16 nearing 17years old and a heartthrob with a heart of gold himself, it was written clear as day in the leaflets of destiny, that Choi Yeonjun would be someone who would make a mile-wide crater of an impact on peopleâs lives. And as your eyes moved away from where Yeonjun sat with an arm slung around his girlfriend, the disappointment was quite evident in them, that you found yourself locking eyes with Rin, who held a look of pity. Shaking your head and offering a smile that said, âNo worriesâ, you shifted your attention back to your friends.Â
Choi Yeonjun may be at a school lunch table less than a foot away from you. But anyone who had lived through the apocalyptic land of highschool could tell that in reality, he was miles away.Â
And this summer, he would be light years away - no longer a friendly customer at a convenience store where you no longer worked, but rather a fading memory of a golden summerâs afternoon, where you could for the first time, feel sparks lighting up inside your eyeballs when they looked into his. The first time your heart would do somersaults to be in his presence. The first crush. Your first crush, the golden boy.Â
Being in the middle of the food chain of status quo meant having its own advantages and disadvantages. And a certain disadvantage was that sure, you were moderately more liked then the people above you, and you werenât picked on nor where you shunned into isolation. But it meant that a very mediocre position came with a mediocre life. Your friend group wasnât the type to be firstly favored to be invited to parties and blowouts with the older kids like some of your peers were. And frankly, your friends werenât the type to be dying for those coveted invitations either. They were the ones whoâd rather watch the Scream movies in order despite the fact that the entire group, minus Taehyun, were deathly afraid of horror movies. And honestly, you were all content with that - to make bad predictions to the endings and have Taehyun poke fun at the way you all fell for the jumpscares every single time.
But to reach to maybe even the periphery of Yeonjunâs area meant having to put yourself out there, just a little bit. And the time was no better than now, when Miyawaki Sakura, the foreign exchange junior you had the opportunity to help out when she first arrived in the beginning of the year, invited you to a blowout on the last day of the school party being held at her place. The lovely Japanese girl, whoâd been meek and as quiet as a mouse had blossomed just like the flower her name signified, and grown out of her shell to be one of the rather popular girls in not only her year, but the entire school. Not only was she drop dead gorgeous, but also possessed the kindest of hearts - evident in the way that even after her rise to popularity, she hadn't forgotten the helpful sophomore who had shown her the ropes around school.Â
Scoring the invite wasnât an issue but rather convincing your homebody, introverted friends to tag along was - Taeyhyun and Kai were already on their ways to their respective family homes, so it was between Rin, Soobin and Beomgyu and if luck would have it, all three.Â
âGuys please. We always have some other time to do these things - Rin I promise you, Iâll sit and finish the lego set with you myself. Soobin, Gyu - be so serious right now. Youâre missing the hottest party of the year to watch freaking anime? Guys please!â. The whining and pleading and pouting along with shining up big puppy-dog eyes at all of them was all you had in your arsenal. âY/N.â A single, serious utter of your name has you shooting another helpless look Soobin, putting quite possibly all your charm into this one. âWeâll go. Shut the hell up now.â
Jumping up from where you were sat on the floor of his bedroom, you shot off to where he and Beomgyu were on the couch, browsing through streaming services for new animes, to engulf him a bone-crushing hug that had him releasing his own expletives and swears, begging to be released, but chuckling along, nonetheless. Pulling Rin along with you, with a complaint from Soobin and Beomgyu about where the two of you were going off without them, giving a loud laugh, you just called out - âItâs a party, we have to dress up!â
Rin was humming along to whatever pop music had begun auto-playing as the playlist you both had put together for the process had exhausted itself, and it was something neither of you paid mind to, too busy concentrating on fixing eyeliner wings and choosing the right accessories to match your outfits. It wasnât that you and Rin werenât friends - no it was great having a girl in the group to help you handle Beomgyu and Soobinâs antics. But it was rather that Rin was the closest to Soobin, which had made conversation stall a bit. Yet the silence was friendly and not awkward at all. A few more beats and a song later, Rin off-handedly mentioned something that had you freezing in your spot. âNow that Yeonjunâs single, it wonât hurt to make your move Y/N.â âYeonjun single, since when?â you asked perplexed. âBut they were sitting together at that table just last week?â. âThatâs the thing, Y/N. Right on that very day, Yunha and Yeonjun unexpectedly broke up. Thereâs no news on why, or how. But many speculate from what they saw that Yeonjun was the one who cut it right off, the one who initiated it.â
Your mind was spinning. A perfect guy and a not-so-perfect girl. What couldâve gone wrong with them? What made them fall apart like that? And so much so - it wasnât that you were one of those people who would see him as an object on the market again. No, he was fresh off a relationship he recently broke off - and it surely would leave a stain on any personâs life. So many questions and so many feelings, and the nagging reminder of your own crush on Yeonjun felt like an anchor inside you, pulling at your heartstrings in a way that made them creak the most bittersweet tune. A boy youâd loved from afar, was now slightly closer in the binoculars you viewed him with. But that didnât mean he wasnât still distances away.Â
âI donât think so Rinâ, came your thought-out reply. âFreshly broken up with? I donât stand a chance. Not to mention that itâs not only me, but half the school that likes himâ. Looking up to where Rin sat snickering, you pointedly asked her, âWhat?â. Halting her laughter, she just said with a warm twinkle in her eye, half turned towards you, pulling a hair brush through her locks. âThe school may have a crush on Yeonjun, but you, Y/N, are head over heels.â
And this was something that weighed heavily on your mind all the way to the party, crammed in Soobinâs mini SUV which he borrowed from his parents for the night after incessant begging and pleading. Rin had a point, you thought, when you glanced at her from where she sat up front next to Soobin, the two lost in their own lovesick bubble. You really were head over heels of Yeonjun, and it had you tripping on your feet and falling more often than not. Pulling up the street crammed with several other cars, the bass reverberating through a specific house on the cul-de-sac lined curb made it obvious what the destination was. Finally managing to tightly squeeze the car into a spot far down, the four of you made your way down to the house, now emitting different sorts of LED lights and boosting party hits, with a hand wrapped around Beomgyuâs, both of you stuck in your own conversation that was continuing from the car.Â
Standing at the door were two heavy-set boys, part of the school football team - Seo Changbin and Lee Chan, both coincidentally being Yeonjunâs closest friends. The fourth of their little musketeer squad was Jung Wooyoung, the wild spirit of a boy, filled with spunk and charisma, was probably inside the house, tearing up whatever makeshift dance floor the party provided. Nodding slightly in recognition at you, no doubt already informed about your invite by Sakura, Changbin just shot you a charming grin, accented with the obvious amounts of copious liquor heâd already downed before your arrival, and said, âYou know Y/N, Iâm not going to lie, I always thought you were too pipsqueak to come to one of theseâ. Heâd given a look to Chan to man the doors himself for a while, and an unspoken second agreement between the both you couldnât quite decipher. âWell, I couldnât turn down Sakura at allâ, you laughed sheepishly, flanked by Soobinâs lanky frame who was clutching on to Rin, and Beomgyu next to Changbin, all of you crossing the threshold to the zone of booze, loud music and people ready to share some skin. Changbin seemed insistent to talk to you, for some reason, as he continued, âWhatever magic Kkura played on you, Iâm glad it worked, because youâre here.â, he beamed with a confident sort of happiness. âO-oh, me too.â, blinking at the sudden confession. âIâm glad Iâm here too. This is Yeonjunâs house, is it?â, you cringed slightly at yourself. Of course it was, everyone knew this was his party. Barking a short laugh, he said, âYeah, of course. Resident party boy couldnât help himself on the first day of summer.â You had no idea where Changbin was leading you to, but judging from the way you guys were walking towards an ajar patio door, you figured he wanted you in the backyard to hear you better over the music, where the number of partygoers were much less. Why he wanted to hear you at all, was still a mystery.Â
With all the questions and slightly flirty lines being thrown at you from Changbin, youâd managed to completely ignore how youâd lost your friends in the crowd, how Soobinâs comforting presence was not near you, or how you couldnât hear Beomgyuâs raucous laughter anymore. Finally breathing in the fresh gale of air as you guys stepped on to the wooden flooring of his back porch, it seemed Changbinâs agenda was made clearer - the way he cupped the curve of your cheek, staring deeply into your eyes. And it made you brake in your steps, eyes wide like a deer in headlights. âY/N. Youâre cute. Iâm cute. Cuter, maybeâ, he giggled with a wink, as the thought that he might be quite tipsy had already washed over you. âLetâs get out of here?â, he said, beckoning towards the back gate of the house. And you, were absolutely fucking frozen. Here was an attractive boy asking you out, and all your stupid mind could think of was how badly you wished this was Yeonjun, and not his friend. And maybe you wished too hard, because from right behind the waiting figure of Changbin seemed to materialize Choi Yeonjun, black hair sticking to his sweaty forehead, smiling lightly as he met your eyes. The sharpness of his nose and the way his eyes seemed to crinkle around its corners. God damnit. Even in the worst of your moments, you seemed to be absolutely haunted by this six feet tall soccer player.Â
âHey, convenience store. Is this guy bothering you?â. Your mouth was open, but it seemed that no words would be coming out anytime soon. Glaring at his friend for icing his game, which just hardened when Yeonjun put an arm around his friendâs plentiful bicep, he just ushered Changbin away from you, still smiling at you as he explained, âHeâs quite drunk right now. Iâm glad you didnât answer him anything, Iâm surprised this dumbass can even stand on his own two feet, with the way he was pre-gaming before. Again, my bad, uh- whatâs your name again? Canât keep calling you convenience store now, can I?â
Here was Choi Yeonjun, talking to you about more than just ice cream flavors and homework. Here was Choi Yeonjun, helping you from making a dumb move with a drunk guy. Here was Choi Yeonjun, awaiting your response while you continued standing there mum.Â
âU-uh yeah! Itâs Y/N. Y/N Y/L/N. I worked at the convenience store, yes. But I stopped working there now!â
There was some odd spirit cursing you, for sure. If there was a god of embarrassment, he seemed to have taken a liking to you.Â
It seemed that Changbin, who was now reeling from the alcohol in his system, hunched over, ready to hurl, which seemed to distract Yeonjun from your nervous rambling. Hauling his friend over to the side of the patio, he entered with a Changbin hanging limply on his side. Looking back to where you still stood, he just smiled and asked, âYou planning to help me out here?â
The floor of the bathroom where Changbin was sitting, curved into the toilet bowl, spilling his guts out was cold. Cold enough to make you and Yeonjun move to the baby blue ceramic tile bathtub, knees pulled into your chest while Yeonjunâs long ones were draped over the rim of the tub. Honestly, your jitters are much less now. The nerves had already made you almost forget what a disaster the first meeting with Yeonjun was, and it seemed he paid no mind to it either. âSo Y/N, how do you know Kkura?â. And thus began a short and simple conversation with Choi Yeonjun in a baby blue bathtub, while his friend hurled in the toilet next to you both.Â
âI donât know how to do it.â The conversation was streaming steadily like a river, and the topic started digging deeper. Yeonjun asked about highschool, and how it was going for you - your plans for the summer and then junior year, the same way you asked him and how he felt about his last year in school. âWhat do you mean?â. âI wish I had a guidebook, you know? To tell me what sorts of things I should do, how to be someone in highschool who makes memories. Who lives. Iâve been trying ever since that last summer of middle school, and Iâm still coming up short.â This just made Yeonjun let out a few giggles in amusement, which had you snapping your neck, shocked how he found your problems so funny. Shoving him lightly with your shoulder, you laughed too. âItâs not funny! Iâm serious. Everyone except me knows what to do!â âIncluding me?â asked Yeonjun, head tilted towards you slightly in curiosity now. âWell..â and the look he gave you spurred you on. âYouâre the Choi Yeonjun. Youâre popular, smart, funny and talented.â âI knowâ, a lazy grin that had you clenching your fist in response to the butterflies. âSo you get it right? You know the ropes.â This had Yeonjunâs smile faltering a bit, as his gaze dropped down to the floor. âIf I knew Y/N, Iâd know why Iâm never enough for my girlfriend.â But as sudden as that confession was, he seemed to return to his original state. And you didnât like that one bit. Sliding up a bit closer to him, you offered a token of friendship. âWanna tell me about it? Sounds like you need a listener, and thatâs something Iâm good at.â
âWell, for starters, the rumor going around that I dumped her is false. It was the other way around. I would say itâs not that the relationship was running smoothly, but I guess I was holding on to that bit of whatever we had, floating a piece of driftwood. Splintering me, but I was holding on. She let go, I guess.â
Youâre not sure what it is about you that has him baring open his soul so vulnerable only to you, but youâre glad. Because you saw the boy as more than just a shimmering silhouette in the distance now. He was much more up close, and much more beautiful.
On a hazy summer evening, where the air hung low above everyone like a buzzing, heated static, you met Choi Yeonjun in a new light. And he met you, not for the first time maybe, but definitely in a more impacting way. A second, first meeting.
The Second Summer - June
The days after the party at Yeonjunâs - where after you both had let each other read each otherâs stories like open books on display, heâd walked you home due to âhis extremely generous and chivalrous natureâ (his words, not yours.), youâd been caught yourself far too many times revisiting that night in your head, replaying the smiles and the laughs, the banters and the jokes. You had something else too. Something that your friends were unaware of. Sure, youâd told them about your escapade with Yeonjun and why you were so absent at the party, which had led to hours of teasing from both Soobin and Beomgyu, with Soobin, roping Rin on to the antics kept making smooching noises at you, and Beomgyu, in the most Beomgyu-esque fashion ever would loudly and immaturely sing âY/N and Yeonjun sitting on a treeâ on the top of his lungs. But something you had yet to reveal to them, mainly because your patience would give out if you had to hear more taunts from them. But in your phone, locked away in your contacts, Yeonjunâs number.
âLemme get your number, tubsâ, heâd said with cheek as he called you that nickname heâd decided on the spot and a tongue poking out cutely from his lip, as he thrust his phone into your hands, still strolling along with one hand in the pocket of his black baggy jeans and the other brushing your own, sending sparks shooting right down your knuckles. Typing the digits in, he smoothly pulled your own phone out of your purse that he was carrying upon his insistence, and entered his own number, no doubt saving it under some sort of stupid name. âWhy am I Tubs?â, you asked curiously. âBecause I just had the best conversation of my life in a tub with you, tubs. Canât let someone like you fade away now, can I?â. The street was lined with harsh white lamps, and little moths fluttering around the buzzing lamp made shadows dance around on the pavement. âSo would you actually use a highschool guide if you got one?â, âYeah, why not? A Popularity 101 or Escape High School for Dummies might be nice.â Humming, he seemed to be contemplating something, that you had to nudge him out of with an inquisitive look. âNothing, nothingâ, he said, shaking his head reassuringly. âJust something I thought of. Something that might help the both of us out.â âWhat do you mean?â, you asked him. âIâll tell you about it. Iâll text you.â And just as elusively heâd entered your life, he left you on the front of your doorstep, with a promising smile and an electricity that wouldnât leave your palms.Â
The nickname had left a blush warming your cheeks that you hoped he hadnât noticed. And when his contact lit up your phone screen, it was the same blush making its appearance on your face again.Â
[Yawnzzn] 11:32 AM: meet me at the convenience store, tubs. kinda wanna talk to you ab smth
While the textâs ominous nature did leave you a bit nervous, the excitement of seeing him again, as a friend, as someone he wanted to hang out with by his own volition, overshadowed it. You knew it had to do something to do with what heâd referenced that fateful night. And skipping down the avenue, past the winding streets of the suburbs lined with trees and their apple green leaves, you made it to the convenience store on the corner, where Yeonjun stood staring into the ground, head bent, wearing a new pair of washed up baggy denims, a white form fitting shirt and a red-and-black cap turned backwards on his shaggy mop of black head, that seemed to highlight the brown undertone in the sun. Spotting your appearance from the sound of footsteps, he smiled and beckoned you into the store where you followed him, settling down on the outdoor seating arrangement shaded by the roof of the store. The sweat was starting to bead on the back of your neck which you tried your best to ignore. Focusing on the boy in front of you, meeting his twinkling gaze just set off an eruption of butterflies in your stomach.Â
âAlright, before I say what I have to say, promise me you wonât be weirded out, okay? And I swear it only sounds as complicated.â He seemed nervous, and slightly uncomfortable about what exactly he was asking, which just made your fingers twitch slightly in anticipation. Anxiously biting your lip, you just nodded for him to continue, mustering up the best reassuring slight smile you could manage. âWhat if I taught you how to master highschool? And in return, could you pretend to be my fake girlfriend?â.
You blinked at him once. Then again. Honestly, you were awaiting that burst of ebullient laughter from him, where heâd then say how he was joking. Why would I date you Tubs? Iâm not mad, heâd say. But none of that came. Instead there was still a patient Yeonjun eagerly awaiting your response. Sputtering in confusion and disbelief, you just asked him, âWhat? Why? Why do you need a fake girlfriend? Why do you want me to be the fake girlfriend?â. Giggling at your discombobulated state, he just waved his hand in the air in a gesture to relax. âLook. Iâve thought long and hard about this. You need a High School for Dummies, and I want to, well, show Yunha that I can be the boyfriend she needs me to be, you know? When she sees what a good boyfriend I can be with you, she might want me back!â. His radiant smile of excitement was throwing shadows over the cracks in your heart. Of course, he wanted her. Perfect, wonderful, Yunha. This would be severely, severely bad for your heart.
âIâll do it.â
Recounting this debacle was shaping up to be exactly the kind of drama you were expecting from Soobin,Beomgyu and Rin. âYouâre not serious. Sheâs not serious guys.â Rin was still in the denial stage of the process your friends were going through - with Soobin on anger and Beomgyu on grief, clutching your plushie on your bed and looking at you with sorrowful eyes as if youâd kidnapped his dog in front of him or something. Soobinâs mouth seemed to fly at miles a minute, berating you for how badly this would obviously end.
âMaybe this will help me, Soobin! To finally get over him! Clearly staying away just made me yearn more.â This just had Soobin turning more red.Â
The both of you had drawn up unspoken rules about this of course - that the agreement would continue until the goal was met. Hopefully, it will happen by the end of this summer itself, Yeonjun had added. There was, of course, an agreement of mutual platonic feelings from both parties. Strike one in the deal.
You didnât like doing things that your friends disapproved of, who despite their silliness and playfulness, were still your best friends. But God, did holding hands with Yeonjun as he led you through the colorful lights, bustling stalls and zooming rides of the carnival feel good. His hand was encasing yours and tugging your fingers, which had your own heartstrings cinching with each pulling movement. There was a wide smile on your face as he sped towards the stall selling animal headbands, insisting that you both needed matching ones.Â
âYou know, Yeonjun. If youâre secretly a furry or something, you can tell me. Itâs okay, I wonât judge. I mean I will, but you knowâ, you said in faux sympathy while patting his shoulder jokingly, which had him adorably pouting at you. âShut up, donât you want to know what makes me so cool? These headbands do. Chicks and dudes alike dig my childlike whimsy.â He said proudly, which just had you raising an eyebrow at you. Stubbornly placing the matching fox ears on you, he pulled his cellphone out while explaining - âOkay, so step one. Kiss my cheek in this photo so that I can upload it to my story.â Kissing Yeonjun (albeit on the cheek) was like tasting heaven to you. Surely your heart would give out, if you even got closer to him. Kiss on the cheek?
âCome on, quickly! I wanna get a corndog after thisâ, he said signaling at the dimple on his cheek. Breaking out of your stupor, you hesitantly pushed your lips on to the soft flesh of his cheek, as he titled his more towards you, making your lips plant firmly against his dimple. Your mind was raging as the brightness around you, and his body warmth made your head spin. The sound of the shutter of a camera from his phone seemed to push you off your rollercoaster thoughts, moving quickly away. âNicely done, Tubs.â he praised, examining the picture and wasting no time to post it. The sudden ding on your phone made you check the device, seeing the same picture being sent to you. âSet it as your wallpaper. Gotta make the gimmick more believable.â, he added nonchalantly. Nodding, you did as he told, until he said in an afterthought, âPlus, I look sexy as hell in that picture.â Scoffing at his confidence, you jokingly said, âAnd what makes you think I wanna stare at your face every time I open my phone?â âNo rebuttals on the sexy part I seeâ, he winked at you.Â
If your chances at surviving this date with an intact heart werenât already horribly low, Choi Yeonjun was hell-bent on leaving you an absolute goner by the end of the date.Â
The second date commenced equally as smoothly, with you taking the initiative this time by taking him to a pottery studio which doubled as a cafe - painting each other small trinkets to keep to remember the good friendship you were both fostering. And as you both opened up more to each other, you found yourself regretting what youâd said to Soobin. Because if anything, being close to Yeonjun just had you spiraling more into this lovestruck rabbit-hole. And you had to dig yourself out, fast.
One of those moments where clarity hit you about digging out, youâd decided to meet up with a fellow classmate of yours - Hwang Hyunjin. Hyunjin was a family friend of yours and you both had been quite close in your childhood years. Your mothers were best friends, who honestly wanted their kids to end up together. But they also didnât want to force any unwanted romance on you both as children, which is why theyâd left the matter alone all together. If it happened, it happened. If it didnât, it didnât.Â
Your mothers shared such a deep friendship that they even had their own anniversary - the day they first became friends. And along the years, it turned into quite a wholesome celebration for them, celebrating their friendship together. And this anniversary was coming up soon, which is why when Hyunjin had texted you, asking if you wanted to help in throwing a little surprise party for the both of them, youâd eagerly jumped at the opportunity, ready to do anything to distract you from the boy you were so hopeless for.Â
Pushing the grocery cart around as Hyunjin mindlessly added to things that might be required for the party, you both idly chatted, catching up with each otherâs lives. Hyunjin was a quite good looking guy, and had all the girls in your class breaking their necks to get a good look at his prince-like beauty. Maybe you wouldâve been one of those girls currently, if a different guy didnât have your head up in the clouds.Â
âAnd whatâs up with you and Yeonjun? Donât play with me and tell me, âcuz I saw that story of his? Does the shy Y/L/N finally have a man? The most fine, coveted man in school, even?â, he said, his cute dumpling smile and nudging making you blush slightly. âWell, weâve been hanging out and stuff, I guess? Heâs a good guy.â, you said bashfully. Hyunjin opened his mouth to say something but froze midair. Looking forward to seeing what had halted Hyunjin, you made eye contact with Yeonjunâs warm caramel brown ones.Â
âHi Y/Nâ, he said with a slight edge to his voice, eyeing you and Hyunjin suspiciously as he did. With a clipped voice, he also threw in a âHey Hwangâ, out of whatever courtesy he could find within the unexplainable pit in his stomach and the slight anger clouding his vision as he kept staring at how Hyunjin had an arm loosely wrapped around your shoulder while he was teasing you. He didnât like that hand. At all. And he needed it off of you, immediately.Â
âHyune, take the items up to the cashier, please? Iâll be with you in a momentâ, you requested, gulping as he left your side understandingly, leaving only you and Yeonjun standing in the fresh produce aisle. âTubs, looks like you donât need my help getting cool at all, if Hwang is the kind of guy you hang out with.â, he said light-heartedly, even though he felt nothing of the sort currently. Seeing you with another guy had put him off so much, so suddenly that it had him reeling. But, of course anyone wouldnât be mad if their fake girlfriend was with someone else, right? Even if the word âfakeâ gave him a bitter taste in his throat?
âHyunjin is my family friend! His mom and my mom are best friends, you see. And weâre throwing them a little party, you see.â, you explained, suddenly feeling shy in his gaze, intense and burning right into you. His eyes seemed to soften at this, and he nodded. Feeling this odd urge to add more, you hastily spit out, âDo you want to come?â. The invitation was out of the blue and frankly had you feeling stupid. Who the hell would want to come to this? âYou bet. Iâll be there in my finest suit and everythingâ, he added jokingly. âWhat time?â âHuh?â âWhat time is it starting?â âYou actually want to come?â. ââCourse I do. Gotta impress my in-laws, right?â, he said cheekily.Â
âYouâre burning up, Y/N-ie!â Hyunjin later said, as he felt your skin as he had gone to poke your cheek. âWas it something in the store?â. Seeing how frozen you were, he slyly put two and two together and asked, âOr was it someone?âÂ
There were some streamers put up in the living room, and some balloons blown up by both your dads, whoâd also become great pals because of their wives. You and Hyunjin were setting up the table, when the doorbell rang. âThat canât be them already?â you asked perplexed. âNo, their spa appointment only ends at 6PM, I checked thoroughlyâ, said Hyunjinâs dad. Moving towards the door, confused about who it could be, you opened the door to find Yeonjun, casually dressed and clutching two small bouquets. âIâm not early, am I?â
When your moms arrived, your mother was pleasantly surprised to find you chatting happily with a boy who was not Hyunjin or any of your friends. Noticing the knowing twinkle in her eyes as you introduced her to Yeonjun, you silently promised her an explanation as you both moved around the room to where Hyunjin was, as your dad beckoned the parents over to the living room while letting the youngsters socialize on their own. With the three of you moving towards the backyard while cracking jokes, you could feel the one-sided tension between the both melting away, which made you glad. Settling down on the lawn chairs on the yard, the three of you streamed through various topics to talk about, with Yeonjun and Hyunjin bonding over their mutual interest in dancing. âI didnât know you danced.â youâd voiced a bit quietly to him as Hyunjin went to his house just next door to get some beers for the three of you. You hadnât drank before, so you were planning to sit this one out and let Yeonjun and Hyunjin get tipsy. âYeah, itâs just been something Iâve always wanted to do. And my teacher before sophomore year reckoned Iâd be good too.â âWhyâd you stop?â, you asked him. âIt was interfering with soccer practice. And soccer gets me into college - dance doesnât.â. He seemed a bit shut off about the topic, and sensing how this was a sore spot for him, you didnât press for much. âWell, thereâs a life outside college. A life where you could do both - and maybe more dancing like you want.â you offered him in reassurance, which seemed to spark an interest in his eyes. Looking gratefully at you, this look on his face seemed different this time, like there was something deeper simmering beneath the cool guy smack heâd always give you. Your hand which was quite close to his own, hanging limply across the handles of the chair, suddenly was encased in warmth, with his own palm giving yours a grateful squeeze. âThank you, Y/N. Iâd like to show you one day, perhaps.â
And indeed, there was something cooking underneath that aloofness of his, because for the first time, he wished that he could show you his dance skills as his girlfriend, and not just a platonic agreement of the season.Â
âBeer wench has arrived!â exclaimed Hyunjin, as he set down three bottles of Beer Lite on the wooden table in front of you. âSorry to interrupt, lovebirds, but Iâm ready to get cracking. Now Yeonjunnie, did you know that when Y/N was 11 she-""Shut up Hyunjin! You swore you wouldnât talk about that!â.Â
Hyunjin and his parents had departed as the evening neared its close, and the sky was black with dark maroon clouds spread out shielding the glimmering stars. Yeonjun had insisted on helping clean up for the party, claiming it was the least he could do as a guest. He was helping your dad clean up stray paper plates and napkins, until you showed him the way up to your room to get a garbage bag to dispose of the waste. His lanky body was right before you as you both bounded up the stairs, and opening up the door, a sudden realization hit you - Yeonjun was going to see your room. Your kind of messy, lame, postered up room. He was already two strides in when you were frozen up, terrified for the teasing onslaught that was bound to begin anytime soon. âNo way, you listen to HONEY too? I freaking love that band.â
This was odd. No teasing. No making fun of your weird posters or your figurines and stuffed toys. Only a very heavy compliment on your music taste. Whistling long as he eyed the rest of your room, he seemed to giggle at the obscene number of plushies on your bed, which you took offense to. âItâs our year of the lord 2018 and youâre gonna make fun of plushies on the bed? Really, Yeonjun?â, you told him off with feigned disappointment as he laughed at this, chuckling while shaking his head. âNot making fun, just admiring.â His speech was only slightly slurred, indicating that he was only barely on the cusp of tipsy and sober. Moving towards your closet to bring out a garbage bag, he ambled up to stand right behind you, his arm resting against the wooden frame of the wardrobe as you ruffled around till you found what you were looking for. âAlright! Letâs go thenâ, spinning around only to bump your nose slightly against his hard chest. This caught you off guard, breath catching in your throat as you stabilized yourself by lightly holding on to his forearm. âYeonjun?â you asked unsurely as your eyes hesitantly looked up to his pupils blown wide as he stared at you in an entirely different way. Like you were the only person he wanted to look at for the rest of his life. His lips were tantalizingly plump and pink, like easy to grab, low hanging fruit, the smell of cranberries and beer wafting on to your face gently in the most tempting way possible. Inhaling sharply, you saw how his vision flitted between features of your face, as if he was memorizing every curve, every mole and every lash. Eyes blown wide as saucers, you could only stand in bated breath, expecting nothing and everything at the same time. His lips were scanning your lips, and you swore your legs would give out right then and there, from the way he licked his own lips while eyeing yours.Â
A call from downstairs seemed to separate you two like similar poles of a magnet, coughing slightly and silently going downstairs, garbage bag in your hand. There was a soft smile on both of your faces as you handed him the bag, going to join your mom in washing the dishes. Your currently flustered state was all the explanation your mom needed about who Yeonjun was to you in your life.
You and Yeonjun ambled by the door just killing time, neither of you wanting to say goodbye. But he knew it was time to go. Standing on your front porch, he offered the last sucker-punch of feelings to your gut as he said, âYou know what, Tubs? I still donât think you need my help. I think youâre the coolest person I know.â
The night when you laid in your bed, an hour after bidding him goodbye, you found yourself staring at the HONEY poster and smiling like a lovesick fool. This summer, you swore, was going to be beautiful.
The Second Summer - July
If you smile at your phone any longer, youâre afraid the shape would be etched on to your face forever, and everyone would know you as the lovestruck idiot who canât stop smiling. At Least thatâs what Soobin says, and obviously heâs never wrong. But even you had to admit, the rate at which you and Yeonjun had spent every waking moment together, including digitally over text messages, was just abysmal. Something seemed to have shifted in him ever since that encounter in your room, and it seemed like heâs exploded with affection. Almost everyone in your school knew that the both of you were in a relationship. A fake one, a snide voice in your head reminded you. Thatâs what this was for, anyways. A way for him to show Yunha how perfect he was. He wanted to be perfect for Yunha, and you were just practice. But the dark thoughts seemed to evaporate from your mind as another text message from Yeonjun lit up your phone, the wallpaper - the photo of the carnival - just making you more giddy. Heâd invited you to your new date/hangout (you werenât sure which word to settle on during this convoluted situation), a movie night at his place, after youâd relentlessly teased him for not knowing some of the most famous rom-coms. Heâd apparently already watched Princess Diaries, which was a shock to you at first, until you found out it was only because his friend Chan had insisted that it was pure cinema, which it was. So tonight, youâd decided to make him watch the second installment of the series, a superior romance with just the right amounts of tension and tropes. He was picking up snacks from the supermarket while he was messaging you, asking you your preferences, the thoughtfulness melting your heart. Your leg was bouncing up and down in excitement as you laid on your bed, ready as ever for the night.Â
At 7PM sharp, you had made your way to his house, rapping sharply at the door. Heâd confirmed previously that the house was going to be empty save for his younger sister, since his parents had already jetted off for an anniversary couples vacation, leaving their two children in charge of the house. Fully expecting Yeonjun to open the door, you were surprised to find a smaller girl standing at the door with unblinking owlish eyes. From the similar fox-like features to the jet black hair, it wasnât difficult to figure out that this was Yeonjunâs younger sister, Yena. She seemed to smile, metal braces glinting under the yellow porch light as she welcomed you in. His sister, who was due to start freshman year herself this fall in the same school as you both, seemed to spend no time in starting to talk to you, treating you like a friend sheâd known for a long time. âYouâre her, right?â, she seemed to ask mid-ramble, âYou're Y/N. God that idiot canât ever shut up about you! Of course, I see why considering how gorgeous you are, but please, some of us are sick of hearing about how much you like spending time with her!â, her voice growing louder and angled towards the staircase you both stood at the bottom of, clearly as a dig towards Yeonjun. His loud footsteps ran down the flight of the stairs, hair damp as if heâs just hopped out of the shower and bangs flopping against his forehead, clad in gray sweatpants and a loose black t-shirt. âYena, donât you have idols to ogle at on your iPad like a middle schooler?â, he asked with a huff of annoyance towards his sister, who just promptly stuck her tongue out at him, and walked away, not without giving you a teasing wink before she did. Clearly, this targeted teasing seemed to run in the Choi family genes.Â
âWeâll watch the movie in my room, so that the little parasite doesnât bother usâ, he explained as he grabbed your hand to pull you up, almost like it was natural to him. A faint âI heard that!âfrom Yena in the living room made you chuckle wholeheartedly, loving their sibling dynamic. The sound of your laugh seemed to liven up Yeonjun even more, who could feel the warmth in your hand in his igniting a spark in his heart. So much for pre-made plans of how things go. It is the first time, he thought to himself, that someoneâs made me feel this way. And I like it.
Settling down on his queen sized bed, the navy blue duvet and bed covers complimented with gray pillows surprised you, because to be honest, you were expecting some sort of Pokemon bed covers. Which earned you a frustrated and angry sound from Yeonjun, who in his annoyance often behaved exactly like a toddler. Endearing.Â
Pressing on the button on the remote, he settled down comfortably right beside you, elbows touching yours as a bowl of popcorn mix was precariously balanced on both of your thighs, his body heat making you feel like a furnace.Â
It got worse as the movie continued. Every minuscule move he made, every tiny shift or brush of him against you had you writhing in your head, having to restrain yourself from just imagining. Imagining what it would be like if you were both a regular couple having a regular date night, with your head on his chest, just above his beating heart. He would run his fingers through your hair that would probably soothe the next ten years worth of worries in your life. He could cup your chin and just dip down, giving you a taste of what it was like to be kissed by the magnificent boy. But that beating heart you fantasized of listening to, was currently beating for Kim Yunha.Â
Youâd never had your first kiss. You frankly saw no big deal of it, and you didnât want to share a meaningless kiss with some boy whoâs name youâd probably forget in twenty years during those eighth grade spin the bottle games at birthday parties. You didnât know what your first kiss would feel like. If it would be the sparks and fireworks, the bubbles of champagne kind, or the comfortable one, like the breeze that enters through your window at night. Like home. The kiss you currently craved, you guessed, would taste as sweet as candy.
âHey, hey she did the foot pop when she kissed him! Thatâs what she wanted in her first movie right!â Yeonjun exclaimed, deeply interested in the movie while you dealt with the dilemma in your mind. He added on, âOh man, a foot pop kiss would be fun. Different to the kisses Iâve had. Have you had any of those, Tubs?â. His questions seemed to fly over your head, until he asked again, inquisitive eyes looking at you, the dialogue a dimmed background in how close he was. Gulping, you didnât really feel shame or embarrassment as you told Yeonjun about your lack of experience (read:none) in that department. It was Yeonjun, of course. You couldnât find anyone else to admit this kind of information to.Â
Yeonjun doesnât know why heâs said it; it flew out of his mouth faster than he could register. But all he did know is that he did want to kiss you. To give you your first kiss. A foot-popping, rom-com, magical kiss. You deserved it. He wanted it.Â
âWanna kiss me?â
His voice has a low timbre to it when he asks this.
Thereâs an ocean ringing in your ears in the midst of your raging emotions - confusion, shock, and above all, glee. To be kissed by Choi Yeonjun, was like plucking a star from the sky and handing it to you.Â
Your neck moves almost mechanically in a single nod. And then his lips are on yours.Â
Thereâs colors yet darkness behind your eyelids that flutter close. Your lips are moving softly and shyly against his, which are gentle yet firm. Like he wants this as bad as you. Like tasting you wasnât a chore, but a reward.Â
You think Yeonjun tastes like popcorn and excitement. He thinks you taste exactly like summer.
The Second Summer - August
The windows in the car are slightly fogging up, and beating heat outside isnât quite helping. The heavy and quick breaths, the faintest moans of pleasure, from the bitten lips to the few scattered hickeys on your neck, as his lips, as unrelenting as ever, kept devouring your mouth would make anyone feel shy enough to look away. His eyes are slightly dimmed and he looks up through his eyelashes at you from where heâs nibbling on your collarbone, which sends a searing flame down your spine and making you whine a sound barely audible to anyone who wasnât in the kind of proximity to you that Yeonjun was in. The whine just got more loud as you complained when he pulled away from his ministrations as the sound of his phone dinging from messages from the rest of the Three Stooges which was his friend group - all of them asking how long exactly would he take to go on a simple beer run for the party theyâre holding tonight at Wooyoungâs place. Shushing your complaints with a sweet peck on your swollen lips, he said, âSorry Tubs, but these guys wonât leave me alone unless I get their alcohol. âSwear theyâre like impatient babies about this stuff.â Starting the car as you got out, he held your wrist just as you were about to close the door, tugging as he asked, âIâll see you at the party, right?â, eyes gleaming with hope. Smiling, you reassured him with a simple yes, and walked over to the short distance to your house, where the rest of your friends had already gathered, waiting in your bedroom. Already bracing yourself, you opened the door to find Beomgyu funnily gasping and shouting about the marks and your messed up hair, with Rin high fiving you and Soobin, while pretending to be a mad dad at you, just hugged you with a smile that had broken through. âYou know Y/N-ie, not even Olympic athletes are this dedicated to reaching the goal like you did. Iâm proud of you kid.â âWhatâs up with all this âkidâ stuff, old man?â you asked him laughing as you plopped down on the beanbag next to Rin who was sorting through your wardrobe trying to find the perfect outfit for you to wear to the party, which would be your first public, public appearance with Yeonjun.
If you werenât going to lie, you were quite nervous. Yunha was supposed to be at this party too. And Yeonjun and you hadnât talked about the âdealâ you both had made, the one which would end with him being with Yunha again, at all since that kiss in his room. The rest of the days since then had since been blurred into kiss-filled memories highlighted with more dates and more memories with him. With not a single mention of what happened before, or what would happen later. If this was the only way you could have Yeonjun, in an unspoken way, the self-destructive, addicted part of you was okay with that. But all good things did come to an end. You had spoken to Beomgyu about your predicament, who had been nothing but a patient and attentive listener to you, despite the boyâs regular nature. He offered you some advice - the kind that you knew was so realistic that only Beomgyu could offer it.Â
âConfront him about it at the party tonight. Perhaps being this publicly out with you might make him remember your contract too. Then you guys could come to a conclusion, hopefully a good one.â
Youâre fidgeting with your fingers on the way to the party, non-verbal and staring out the window in Soobinâs car as the three of them sensed you needed your space, left you alone. Tonight was an important night.Â
Jung Wooyoungâs house was no joke. A sprawling mansion with five private jacuzzis, countless bedrooms and more space than required, the party teeming across the entire property seemed to be in full swing when you all arrived. A text alert on your phone from Yeonjun made you look away from the sheer grandness of the house,
[Yawnzzn] 10:26 PM: come meet me at the jacuzzi marked number 3. itâs the one behind the fountain đ
Fountain? Jacuzzi? God, was Wooyoung rich. The number of amenities had your head spinning, and it was almost like deja vu, the way you found yourself separated from your friends again at a party. Fortunately enough, this time youâd told them about the message and about meeting Yeonjun. Beomgyu had given an extra reassuring look when you left, silently cheering you on for what you were planning to do tonight. Pushing past sweaty bodies and handsy couples, drunk teenagers and passed out bodies on the floor, you tried to find your way to the location that Yeonjun had messaged. The enormity of the house didnât make it easy, and honestly you were getting quite dizzy from all the overstimulation around you. But you had to find him first.Â
Finally spotting a cluster of palm leaves and an artificial water fountain, made of polished rocks and lighting from below making the water look ethereal, you ambled your way there, pushing past the leaves to get behind the fountain to where Yeonjun said the jacuzzi was. Making it past the rocks, you saw the jacuzzi, where your boy sat with his feet in the glowing blue water, the shadows of the water rippling across his face. There was your beautiful boy, sitting right next to Kim Yunha.Â
You didnât know what to say. Or do. He was looking at her the way you swore he looked at you, with all that hope and all that endearment in his face. Then his face fell, with a tinge of visible anger clustering in his furrowed eyebrows, when you heard the words in her voice, âSo what, you gonna extend your contract with your pathetic little fake-girl? Or are you just man up and come back to me?â There seemed to be some sort of satisfaction in the smirk Kim Yunha wore, amplifying when she looked right at you, gleaming with some sort of vengeance. As soon as she did, Yeonjun did too, with a look of utter bewilderment and helplessness. Sort of like how you felt.Â
It was like piercing a knife right through you, hot and searing which led to the same kind of tears running right down your face. The look you wore had something inexplicably sharp poking Yeonjun deeply in the chest. He was trying to get around the wet floor, trying to reach you, screaming something.Â
But you didnât hear anything. It was like there was that ocean in your ears again, raging violently this time. Your breath was quickening like falling sand. You didnât know what to think right now. The summer was supposed to end, and this was the end of your summer, and fuck, he got what he wanted, didnât he? And left you with nothing. You didnât know what to do, so you did the only thing you could do, and you ran.Â
The Second Summer - Yeonjunâs Summer
If you had asked Yeonjun how his summer was going, he would just say one thing. âThis summer, I fell in love.â
74 missed calls have accumulated in your phone over the past three days, where youâve laid just rotting in your bed. Your eyes are probably still puffy from the way that when you think the tears have ended, they begin again. Rin spent the night over the first night, after hearing your broken recount of the events that had happened to the best of your abilities, amongst the gut-wrenching sobs that wouldnât stop and the horrible ache in your heart that just wouldnât stop. The second night, it was Beomgyu, accompanied by Taehyun and Kai, who had come back from visiting their family and been filled in by the rest of the gang on the current happenings. Beomgyu seemed quite angry at himself, after all he was the one who had suggested that you seek out Yeonjun at the party. But when you limply just grabbed his hand while tears streamed down your face noiselessly, the three boys just gathered around you in a circle, encasing you and trying their best to shield you from pain; even though the pain was deep inside you, like a hurtful wrench determined to dig right into you.Â
Soobin was here on the third night, declining all the calls from the boy who broke your heart, who seemed to be relentless in his attempts. He had gotten what he had wanted, didnât he? He got his precious girlfriend back, and was he stupid enough to expect the both of you would continue to be friends? âI donât get why he called me there if she was going to be there as wellâ. Your voice is as frail as a dying leaf in winter, thin like paper and watery that had Soobin himself tearing up for his friend.Â
You did have quite a lot of unanswered questions that would remain a mystery to you, you guessed. Did everything really mean nothing to you? Was I the only one calling it everything? Do you miss me? I miss you. I miss you a lot even though I shouldnât. I miss you all the time. I hate you. I miss you.Â
Another buzzing call on your phone had you break out of your headspace. âSoobâ, you began in a watery voice, âIâm gonna go shower. Maybe get rid of this stench and sadness on me. You go home and get some rest, okay?ââBut-â âTrust me.â He understood that this was something you needed, and giving you one last hug, he walked out, leaving you alone in the room where you first felt Yeonjun.Â
Heâs been driving around aimlessly for the past three days. Ever since that night, heâs been sleeping in his car, which had gathered protests from the rest of his friends. But he couldnât stomach going into his room, where heâd kissed you for the first time. He was haunted now, by the most beautiful ghost. A ghost whom heâd hurt.Â
He has been cursing out Kim Yunha in his mind continuously, but not as much as heâd been cursing himself. When sheâd overheard the conversation he was having with Changbin, Wooyoung and Chan about how he was ready to cut the contract-deal bullshit between you both, to finally put an end to the Yunha business, and finally ask you to be his as much as he already was yours, he shouldâve taken some action. He shouldnât have fallen for her innocent act, where she pretended to be actually interested in hearing about you. He shouldâve cut her off immediately, and then run to you and kissed you long and hard.
But he didnât. He didnât and now you were hurt because of him and he couldnât find you at all. There seemed to be no activity about you. You hadnât blocked him, but you didnât pick up his calls. His texts were still going through, but left on delivered. He was lost, and you were the only one who could compass him back to shore.Â
He doesnât know when to pin-point to the moment being the moment when he realized that heâd fallen hard and fast for you. Every date with you made him crave your presence more. Funny jokes seem funnier when he hears your laugh. Movies were more entertaining only when you were sitting next to him, pressed up to him so that he could smell your shampoo and hold your hand, the pads of his fingers tracing every crease on your palm. Or maybe it was when you became the first person to take an interest in the real him - the Yeonjun who liked dancing and animal ears and popcorn and ice creams from the convenience store. Maybe he was a goner the moment he sat in that bathtub at the party with you. Losing an anchor like you meant he was back to being adrift at sea.
Itâs the 4th day of being on no-contact with Yeonjun. Since that fateful day where your heart had been shattered to pieces. Youâre back at the convenience store youâd worked that summer, on some sort of heritage tour of the moments you had before you were crushed. You walked on over to the ice cream box, chuckling sadly when you noticed the exact ice cream youâd recommended him still being there. You werenât sure how or when youâd stop remembering him in the small things. But in some deep, deep part of you, you wanted to remember him. You wanted to remember how high you felt around him.Â
âY/N.â
It's like the temperature in the store drops significantly when he says your name. Youâre refusing to turn around, shoulder seized up and taut. Heâs here, heâs here, why the fuck is he here?
âY/N, please.â He doesnât want to get too close to you just yet. He wants to give you the space you need. But fuck, if he just didnât feel the largest wave of relief in his chest when he spotted you entering the convenience store.Â
âY/N, Tubs. Please. Just hear me out. Please? I promise you itâs not what it looked like.â
He sounds so utterly desperate and broken that it makes your heart ache enough to make you turn around, making you gasp at his disheveled appearance.
Thereâs dark eye bags under his eyes which have lost any spark they held before. Despite the brightness of the sun outside, he seemed to look almost gray in color. Like life was sucked right out of him. His concerning appearance had you shuffling hesitantly towards him, which he was ever-so welcoming to. Opening his mouth, his voice was hoarse, as began explaining everything.Â
Youâre both seated outside that store again, where that godforsaken deal began. He seems much lighter now, and much better. His hand is inches from yours, and hesitating to close the gap. The moment is so tender, so precious, that even one wrong move has him fearing that youâd leave, and heâd be broken again. âIs the deal over then?â, you ask him, which has his eyes widening. âFuck the deal, baby. Iâm so sorry that it even was a thing. I like you, Y/N Y/L/N. I might even just be in love with you, and Iâm mad enough about you to admit it. Youâre like breathing to me, Y/N.â
Heâs here again, and heâs so, so beautiful again. This time, itâs you closing the gap between your hands, his palm bringing back fond memories to your mind. âWell, Yeonjun, I hope the deal is over. Iâd like to declare it over, because I would prefer it a lot more if you became my real boyfriend, instead of my fake one.â
Itâs the summer before junior year and youâre only sixteen, but you swear that this is love. You may not know much, but youâre sure. Reaching here mightâve been hell, like fighting modern Sparta. But you wouldnât have ended it any differently, with you and him and a summer in a convenience store, eating ice pops and sharing frozen kisses.Â
Bonus: The first fall
Youâre standing in front of your locker. The first day of school jitters were significantly lesser compared to your previous years. Picking up the singular post-it that had seemed to have found itself in your locker, you turned it around to find Yeonjunâs scrawling handwriting saying only one thing. I love you. And just as you grinned from the message, the boy in question wrapped his arms around your torso, planting a sweet kiss on the right side of your neck, and then deeply inhaling your scent, which made you laugh happily. âCool people write post-its by the way. That should also be a tip you should consider for your highschool journey.â âOf course, my cool boyfriend. Iâll definitely keep in mind that post-its are for cool people.â If Yeonjun was a star, you were his star charter. Youâd still have to get through the battleground of high school. But doing it with Yeonjun just made the whole journey much sweeter, didnât it?
âJust for the record, I still donât like him.â âShut up Soobin!â.

Coming Home | J. Jaehyun TEASER
After hitting a dead end in your job search, you reluctantly return home to stay with your mom. However, fate has other plans as you unexpectedly cross paths with an old flame. Sparks fly as you navigate the complexities of past feelings and present circumstances, reigniting a passionate connection that refuses to be ignored.
Jaehyun x reader (Exes to lovers)
Fluff, Angst, Suggestive.
As a little girl life seemed so easy, you expected that by the time you entered your 20âs you would have graduated and walked right into your new career. If little girl you could see adult you right now sheâd run away from you screaming and crying.Â
You had 300 dollars, a coupon for a free medium two-topping pizza from that pizza place you order from too often, and a (useless) tech degree to your name. No one wants to hire you, youâve ruined your credit during your college years and you just decided to end your three-year relationship.Â
With all the odds turned against you, there was only one thing you could do; go back to your hometown to stay with your mom just until you got back on your feet.Â
Leaving Los Angeles was already gut-wrenching but landing in Connecticut ripped away any dignity you had left. The air smelled the same as when you left, and the people hadnât changed a bit.Â
You wanted to drop down to your knees and bawl when the realization set in that this was where you were going to be for the next few months of your life. However you still had at least an ounce of dignity left in you, so you grabbed your luggage and collected your emotions to walk towards the pickup section and wait for your mom.Â
Blinking back tears, you inhaled a deep breath and pulled out your phone. Waiting patiently as your phone searched for service in the area. When the service finally sets in, your phone blows up with 70 different alerts. Two calls from your best friend, Yeri, and three text messages from her telling you to have a safe trip and to keep your head up.Â
Six missed calls from your ex boyfriend, and seven text messages from him begging you to talk to him.Â
51 emails from the various job search sites that you signed up with, and one singular text message from your mom.Â
Mom: Hey! I wonât be able to make it. But donât worry, Iâll have Jaehyun come pick you up. Canât wait to see you!Â
As if on cue, a familiar black 2015 Toyota Corolla pulls up right in front of you, and none other than Jung Jaehyun gets out of the car.Â
âThis has to be a joke.â You breathe, your shoulders raising as you do so.Â
He smirks the second he lays eyes on you, âWow you havenât aged a bit.âÂ
You wished you could say the same about him, heâd grown a lot more mature since you last saw him. He wasnât the 18-year-old boy you were once head over heels for. He was way taller, he grew his hair out and you could tell that he started using the gym.Â
âWhy are you here?â you look up at him with folded arms.Â
He doesnât take you seriously, he never did. âSorry Iâm late.â he chuckles and takes your suitcase from beside you to load it in the back of his car.Â
Once he finishes his first task, he walks back around to open the door for you. Gesturing to the passenger seat with both arms and a smile that you wished you could hate.Â
âIâm not getting in the car, Jaehyun.â You remain in your spot, arms still folded over your chest.Â
âNo?â he asks condescendingly.
You repeat, âNo.â firm on your feet.Â
âWell I guess, Iâll see you there then.â You watch him close the door and walk to the driver's side, all without sparing you a single look. He starts the car and drives away, leaving you with two options.Â
You could chase after him and embarrass yourself, or you could remain stubborn and just call an Uber.Â
You choose to chase the car after realizing that the phone that you would use to call an Uber was sitting in the back of his trunk. Â
He watched you run after him from his rearview mirror, he slowed down but refused to stop until you were banging on the side of the window begging him to stop. He got a thrill out of this, and you could tell.Â
âDid you change your mind?â He teases.
Physically Jaehyun was a completely different person, he grew up well youâll admit that. But personality-wise? He hadnât changed at all. He was still the same sarcastic asshole you met in high school.Â
You mutter âI donât have my phone.â as you slide into the passenger seat. You subtly look around, taking notice that the car still smelled the same way you remembered it was just cleaner now. Sooner or later your eyes dart to the back seat, and Jaehyun chuckles when you do.Â
âSo whatâs L. A like?â He asks suddenly, one hand on the steering wheel and the other draped over his thigh.Â
âItâs fun and different. My boyfriend helped to introduce me to a lot of new things.â You purposely mention your (ex) boyfriend just to see his reaction.Â
To your dismay, his reaction is as simple as none. He only asks âHowâs long-distance gonna work out for you? It didnât seem to work with us.âÂ
âWeâll do fine.âÂ
The car falls quiet for a few moments before he starts up a new conversation.Â
âIâm glad you're back.â The statement seemed taunting even if you knew thatâs not how he meant it. You always dreamed of moving away to a big city where no one knew who you were, and now that you're back home it just felt like you were a failure.Â
âIâm not staying for long.â you gaze out of the window.Â
âSince youâre back in town we should hang out sometime.â He suggests, sneaking glances at you.Â
âI didnât come back to see you.âÂ
âSuit yourself, but remember I'm always just a phone call away.â
