The Weighing of the Heart by Paul Tudor Owen – the cocktail
Nicole at the Bookworm Drinketh describes The Weighing of the Heart as having "beautiful prose" that "kept me wanting more".
She has also come up with an amazing cocktail inspired by the novel...
Okay, so this choice of cocktail may have been somewhat obscure. But, the entire premise of the book is highly wrapped in Egyptian mythology. The scarab being mentioned many times to “prevent your heart from testifying against you on that dreadful day of judgement”. I can only hope that this drink will do the same!
INGREDIENTS
1 ounce vodka
1/2 ounce melon liqueur, (like Midori)
1/2 ounce raspberry liqueur, (like Chambord)
1/2 ounce blue curacao
2 ounces sweet and sour mix
1 1/2 ounces cranberry juice
Ice
DIRECTIONS
Fill a double old-fashioned glass with ice.
To the glass add the vodka, melon liqueur, raspberry liqueur, blue curaçao, and sweet & sour.
Pour the cranberry juice on top of the drink. You can let the juice float or stir it in for a creepy color change.
Bottoms up!
The Weighing of the Heart has been shortlisted for the People's Book Prize 2020. Vote for it here.
And buy it for only 99p on Kindle here.

In this hilarious follow-up to BEN FRANKLIN'S IN MY BATHROOM!, history and hijinks collide once more when Eleanor Roosevelt accidentally time travels to a ten-year-old's home in 21st-century America!
When Eleanor Roosevelt time travels to Nolan and Olive's house in modern-day Illinois, the kids don't know who she is at first. After all, she's old and wearing a hairnet. But the First Lady of the United States--some 80 years ago, that is-- isn't a mystery for long when she starts spouting things like "You must do the things you think you cannot do." Fresh off a visit from Ben Franklin, Nolan and Olive know what they're in for with this latest guest: an adventure. From drawing on ideals of civil protest to save the town park, to (almost) doing a loop-de-loop in a single-engine plane, to avoiding that know-it-all snoop Tommy Tuttle, there's one laugh after the next in this second book in the History Pals series. Fun back matter expands the story and unpacks the amazing life of Eleanor Roosevelt.
Now on to the excerpt!

One Lovely Blog Award
One Lovely Blog Award
I was nominated for this award by Nicole at The BookWorm Drinketh. I thought it would be fun so I’m participating. If you were to name one piece of clothing that describes you, what would you say? I would have to say a flannel shirt, because I’m tomboyish, laid back, and I can take it off when I get hot! If you had your human body, but the head of an animal, what animal would you pick?

Tag // The Blogger Recognition Award
Who? Me? Little old me?
I was tagged by the lovely Krystin @ Here’s The Fucking Twist for this award!
Thank you so much for thinking of me Krystin!
If you haven’t checked out her blog already go and do that now! She’s brilliant and hilarious which is the best combo in a blogger.
The Tasks
So this award is pretty simple in terms of what you need to do but the answers are definitely ones I had to have a good think on regardless.
1. How I started My Blog
I had wanted to start a blog for a while.
I actually had a blog back when I was a teenager that didn’t do nearly as well as I have done this time around but it was a great way to get out my emotions.
I’ve been pretty deep in the book community the last 2 years after rediscovering my love for reading for the hundredth time. I started reading more than I have ever read before and kept track of my progress on Goodreads which, prior to 2016, had been an app that mostly just sat on my phone and get very little use.
Once I had been on Goodreads for a while, I decided that I wanted to try my hand at writing reviews. I read so many wonderful reviews to help myself make the best book choices that I was really inspired to do the same.
Books are something I have always been passionate about and I always love talking about them so why not find a new place to do just that?
Last year was quite rough for me and books, and the community that came with them had become such a great distraction that early this year I knew I should truly take advantage of that.
So I started my blog as Greyson Reads and it has gone under several brand makeovers since then, including recently a new name, Use Your Words, a term I am kind of known for using IRL.
It quickly became the one place I could turn to and get away from the increasing toxicity around me. I fell in love with all the people in this community and have not looked back since.
This place and the people here became a safe space for me when I no longer felt like I had one. I will forever be grateful for that!
2. My Blogging Advice
Write what you want to write. Sure follow the stats to a point but if you’re not enjoying something, can it.
Work to your strengths. Do you write great reviews? Make them the feature of your blog! Are you super creative? Make your own tags, post series!
Take breaks if you need to. I’ve already taken 2 hiatuses from blogging and I haven’t even been doing it for a year yet. Sometimes you need a break. This is meant to be fun! Don’t let it become too much like work.
Take advantage of the scheduling feature in WordPress. It’s your best friend.
Talk to people! Get out there, comment on other bloggers’ posts, interact with your readers. No one ever really likes the faceless person behind the screen. Let your personality be known.
Most importantly, be you. I know, cliche much but it’s true. Even if it’s the heightened version of you that you can’t be IRL.
I tag;
Jillian @ Jillian The Bookish Butterfly
Marta @ The Cursed Books
Melanie @ Mel To The Any
Vicky @ Vicky Who Reads
Nicole @ The Bookworm Drinketh
Em @ Runaway With Dream Thieves
Marie @ Drizzle And Hurricane Books
May @ Forever and Everly
Carrie @ Carrie’s Book Reviews
Dani @ Touch My Spine Book Reviews
Olivia @ Purely Olivia
Ellyn @ Allonsythornraxxbooks
Fadwa @ Word Wonders
Laura @ Green Tea & Paperbacks
Kelly @ Another Book in the Wall
That was nice and quick! We love an easy post.
What advice do you have for new bloggers? How did you start? Been thinking of starting but need a little push? Comment and I’ll give you my best of Greyson Encouragement!

R&R Book Tours Proudly Presents: The Finest Supermarket in Kabul, a fascinating novella inspired by true events! Thank you so much for allowing me to be part of this wonderful opportunity.😊
The Finest Supermarket in Kabul
Publication Date: Oct. 30th, 2017
Genre: Novella/ Terrorism/ Inspired by True Events
Kabul, Afghanistan January 28, 2011.
Merza, a freshly minted Parliamentarian receives ominous threats after he wins his seat. Alec, an American journalist, flies from Kandahar without his editor’s permission to chronicle daily life in the capital. Elyssa, a Canadian human rights lawyer in Kabul to train female magistrates, is distracted by unwanted attention from a male justice. On this grey, wintry Friday, all three are embroiled in a dramatic and savage bombing. Inspired by true events and places, The Finest Supermarket in Kabul follows Merza, Alec and Elyssa as their idealistic and visionary hopes for Afghanistan are deeply challenged in the aftermath.

Excerpt
Merza:
Last September, I was elected to the Wolesi Jirga in Afghanistan’s National Assembly. My parents had protested my running, and they regularly spoke of their wayward son to neighbours and friends, sometimes even in my presence. By now, their attitude has subsided into a stinging disapproval and regret which pervades our house as if an undesirable visitor has settled in to stay. As for me, I’ve borne a lot to run for this seat and am pleased with my win. During the lead up to the election, I’d organized a few public events to encourage voters but then began to hear with sickening frequency about threats made to candidates, campaigners and election workers alike. Voters were told to stay away from polling stations. In small villages, the warnings were direct and ominous, communicated via written letters posted on mosque doors and other public buildings. In Kabul, the intimidation came over the radio, distant and impersonal. This, I decided, I could live with; I continued my campaign with no immediate repercussions.
So when the telephone call came three weeks ago, I was caught off guard. We warn you today, on behalf of Servants of Islam, to stop working for the infidel. If you continue, you will be regarded as the enemy of Islam and will be killed. The caller hung up before I could. I hadn’t said a word. My hands were shaking; my breath was short. My insides turned over more than once as I stood paralyzed beside the phone; my eyes glazed over, staring at the living room wall. Rattled and anxious, I didn’t tell anyone – not my sister, not my parents, not even my friends. My actions could not, should not, affect anyone else, I thought.
I flinch when the policeman knocks heavily on my window. He stands beside a large blue sign that proclaims Ring of Steel with Police below in white lettering. An AK-47 is casually resting along his right arm, an Afghan flag patch on his shoulder. The classy silver watch on his left wrist looks out of place. I put the driver’s window down and turn up the heat.
“Assalaam alaikum. Sir, I need to see your ID. Where are you going today?” The officer is polite but firm as he scrutinizes the back seat. The badge clipped to his left front pocket dangles by my face.
“Going to buy some firewood. I’ve just come from Zuhr prayers at the Id Gah Mosque,” I say, reasoning that if I mention prayers it will go quicker.
I hand over my ID, uncertain what I will do if he asks for money. Five years ago, there would not have been any concern about a potential bribe, as police officers were almost non-existent. When using government services, I will occasionally give small amounts of money if I can’t seen any other way to get ahead, a practice my father says is just “doing business.” But I truly resent the culture of corruption that policemen and other government officials have become a part of.
He stares at the photo, at me, and then back at the photo. A sense of familiarity creeps in but my anxiousness doesn’t let me focus on it. He turns my ID over in a slow, pensive movement, the card in his palm, picture side down.
“For your information, I’m a parliamentarian. I was elected to the Wolesi Jirga last year. We’re aiming to decrease corruption,” I say defiantly, trying to cut off all ideas of a bribe.
Suddenly, he shifts the AK-47 into his hand and points it at the rear of my car. “I need to see the trunk.” I glimpse his index finger on the trigger.

CHARGED An Otherworldly Reverse Harem by: Gillian Zane Pub. Date: September 18, 2018 Publisher: Parajunkee Publishing Formats: Paperback, eBook Pages: 480
Find it: Goodreads, Amazon
Read For FREE With Kindle Unlimited!
Bobbie Flemming was having one of those terrible, no good kind of days.
Her boss yelled at her because of something a co-worker did, her sometimes boyfriend was getting engaged to another woman, and she wore two different shoes to work. To make matters worse, she agreed to be in a charitable “most eligible” auction for her friend Chuck, who won’t speak to her if she doesn’t show up.
Bobbie doesn’t feel most eligible, and she definitely doesn’t feel like going on a date with someone so desperate they have to win her in an auction. But when two of the hottest men on the planet, who happen to be twins, show up and outbid everyone, Bobbie thinks she’s won the lottery. Until the one in charge opens his mouth and she realizes he’s bat sh*t crazy.
Now, Bobbie’s being whisked off, without her consent, to the middle of Central Park — and what is that — a spaceship? This was how Bobbie finds herself stranded on an alien planet, with not two, but four incarnations of the same man. (They do that on their planet, it’s like their thing.) And all four of these hot alien males think Bobbie is their fated charge mate. All Bobbie knows is she didn’t sign up for this. Sure, the sex might be awesome, and the guys might be super-hot, but what does it take to get back to Earth where everything is normal, and there aren’t Emperors who want to kill her?
Review:
Charged was fun, honestly made me crack up in place and I found it to be overall super entertaining.
I was thinking about it and this is pretty much the second ever Reverse Harem book, I have read and reviewed here. So, to be honest, I am not sure how many of these I will be reading in the future, but for now, I have enjoyed the books that I got.
Back to Charged and Bobbie’s adventures!
I really liked her from the first chapter, she is so jaded reminded me of me, though not as sarcastic as yours truly to be fair to Bobbie. You gotta give it to her, it is not every day that a girl gets kidnapped in the middle of New York by a gorgeous alien!
Between us, there is a part of me still undecided about Roc i.e Sexy Alien Kidnapper! So kidnapping is a big nono! I think we can all agree to that. But, I mean I see where poor Roc is coming from… but methinks deep down that he could have gone about it in a better way!
That does not diminish from the fun I had watching these 2 argue along the way.
I am going to stop giving you too many details as I do not want to spoil the book for you guys. Charged was nicely written with a good pace. I liked the secondary characters very much and I want to see more of Bobbie’s new planet that is for sure.
I was really taken with the descriptions of fields of flowers and I am still cracking about the transparent bridges! (you need to read so you know what I am talking about).
The characters are complex and much deeper than I expected. I thought it was going to be back to back sexy time (I mean it is that way don’t get me wrong) but you could see a lot more to the characters than I expected. Lots of inner debates going on!
I am going to very much recommend Charged and it looks to be book 1 of a new series. I have an idea of who the main will be for book 2 but my lips are sealed and I am looking forward to it for sure!
I do hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

So in my last post you heard me saying how I’m thanking the heavens that it’s finally July. Today, I’m saying, where has the time gone? How is it already July?! I’ve been at this blog for six months already! I can’t believe how time has flown by…
Technically speaking, no one tagged me in this book tag (boo!) but I’m doing it anyway, because what the heck, right? (yay!) I’m having an amazing reading year compared to previous years, so I thought I could do this and see what I still plan on reading.
Here we go!
Best Book You’ve Read Yet in 2018
This is so hard!! I had some amazing reads, but I’ll boil it down to A Court of Wings and Ruin by Sarah J. Maas and Wonder by R. J. Palacio. Both masterpieces in their own right. And both tearjerkers!!
Best Sequel You’ve Read So Far in 2018
I want to say A Court of Wings and Ruin again, but there were others, too. So I’ll go with Cress by Marissa Meyer. I loved Cress and Thorne! And this whole fairy tale retelling is just… sigh. I loved, loved, loved this. Also, the cover! ❤
New Release You Haven’t Read Yet But You Want To
There are so many in my head I can’t think straight. The one new release that I’m positive I need to get to very, very soon is Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi. I’ve heard nothing but great things about this book and I DON’T KNOW WHY I STILL HAVEN’T READ IT OKAY? Don’t judge me.
Most Anticipated Release For The Second Half Of The Year
I’ve lost track, honestly. Even Goodreads can’t keep up. I know I’m definitely waiting for Kingdom of Ash by Sarah J. Maas like my life depends on it (October 23rd), and I’m also really looking forward to Shadow of The Fox by Julie Kagawa (October 2nd). I haven’t read anything of her’s in a while, and I really liked her novels. So yay!
Biggest Disappointment
This has to be Passenger by Alexandra Bracken. I had such high hopes for it, it really let me down. The chemistry between the main characters was just off, and I think made the story lose most of its appeal to me. A shame, really.
Biggest Surprise
The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern, hands down. I can’t believe I read the book this year… it feels like a lifetime ago! I cannot stop raving about this book, I’ve become obsessed with it. I would definitely, 100%, highly recommend this to anyone. It’s writing is beautiful.
Favourite New Author
This is a tough one. I think I’ll go with Morgan Matson. She has some great books but I’ve only just read Amy and Roger’s Epic Detour, which I absolutely loved. In fact, I’ve just ordered Save the Date because of it.
Newest Fictional Crush
I’m going back to Cress with this one, and say, Thorne! I have a soft spot for Flynn Ryder, so of course I’m going to choose Thorne. I love his one-liners and his general all-round Thorneness. You know what I mean.
Newest Favourite Character
Tim from My Life Next Door by Huntley Fitzpatrick. The characters in general are a little iffy in this, but I adored Tim. He was messed up beyond repair, yet was still a better guy than most of the characters in the novel. Flawed people are the best… take that Ms. Reed. There.
Book That Made You Cry
All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven. This gave me a roller-coaster of emotions, but at the end I found myself helpless staring into nothingness in bed. It was such an eye opener that perfectly shows how nothing should be taken for granted, and just because someone seems that they are ok, doesn’t mean they are.
Book That Made You Happy
Anna and the French Kiss was so cute and fuzzy! It was frustrating, but so cute and fuzzy!
Favourite Book to Film Adaptation
I think there’s only one book that I read this year and was turned to a film, and that is Wonder. Still, it’s one of my favourite adaptations and it was adorable!
Favourite Post You’ve Done this Year
All my posts were done this year, so can I say all of them? Ok, my favourite will probably have to be the Book Spotlight on Stalking Jack the Ripper, since it’s the one that got the most hype… and it’s one of my favourite reads 🙂
Most Beautiful Book You’ve Bought this Year
A Court of Frost and Starlight by Sarah J. Maas. It’s so shiny and pretty… *insert Gollum heavy breathing here*
Books You Need to Read by the End of the Year
Books? Plural? Oh boy… I definitely plan on reading The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas before the film comes out. I want to read Winter by Marissa Meyer so that I’ll finish the series… Tower of Dawn by Sarah J. Maas – yes, I haven’t read it yet, I know, don’t hurt me – and I’ve been eyeing To Kill a Kingdom by Alexandra Christo ever since it came out… let’s leave it at those four, shall we? We’d be here all night 😀
That was a long one! I apologise. No one tagged me, it’s fine, but I hereby tag:
Book Orbit
Books and Co
The Bookworm Drinketh
I look forward to reading your posts!
Until next time, Happy Tuesday!
