THIS IS SO ME*
And also I did reread the (first) book and honestly? While I can see how other people think it's cringe, it STILL HITS.
I actually view the characters very differently now?? Like I always used to think the main character was overly whiny... But now it truly seems like she was reacting to her situation in a totally normal way.
The main love interest who I was obsessed with as a kid is...it's SO WEIRD, bc when I was 12/13, 16 seemed so ADULT to me. But rereading it as an adult, he is Very Much Sixteen™ lmao. And I picture him as looking younger than I did when I was a kid.
*Not that I'm am strictly a girl anymore
Nobody understands the bond between a girl and the mediocre book she read when she was 13 years old.
#it's the mortal instruments btw#jace and his character development will always have a special place in my heart#the books are cringey shitty typical YA fare#but still feel profound to me#especially the narrative surrounding parent-child relationships tbh#it's so weird to reread it and be like#oh this villain who seemed to completely lack humanity#actually does seem to care for jace#sort of. in his own way#idk if anyone else gets what I mean#but in some parts of the scene at the end of city of bones#there was a moment or two that made me cock my head and go “oh??”
