I was reading a book (about interjections, oddly enough) yesterday which included the phrase “In these days of political correctness…” talking about no longer making jokes that denigrated people for their culture or for the colour of their skin. And I thought, “That’s not actually anything to do with ‘political correctness’. That’s just treating other people with respect.”
Which made me oddly happy. I started imagining a world in which we replaced the phrase “politically correct” wherever we could with “treating other people with respect”, and it made me smile.
You should try it. It’s peculiarly enlightening.
I know what you’re thinking now. You’re thinking “Oh my god, that’s treating other people with respect gone mad!”
Happy Valentine’s Day.

You know how canaries were historically brought into coal mines, because if the mine was full of carbon monoxide the canary would die first and the miners would be able to escape before they died too?
I just found the greatest thing.
This is a canary resuscitator.
When the miners notice the canary getting sick with carbon monoxide poisoning, they can close that circular hatch so no more gas gets into the canary cage, and open the valve on that oxygen tank to keep the canary breathing. In other words, they made a spacesuit for birds.
By immediately giving the canary access to clean air, the miners can save it from the poison. The bird lives. To be clear, this is not for economic purposes, this was specifically created because the miners felt bad and wanted to save the bird.
Isn’t that just the perfect demonstration of what humans are like? We started sacrificing small creatures to save ourselves, and then felt bad and spent our valuable resources on saving the critters too. Because yeah the canary was the only way to test for CO, but it’s a living creature too, dammit!

Just saw someone call you a bot put some respect on their name okay!!!! Didn't you say you did this all by hand 😭😭
the best thing to see is people in the tags going "this is a new bot" before scrolling through my blog and slowly realizing im actually just an insane person

Once again reminding people that therapy is not where you send people to be "fixed" or to make them "normal." It's frankly scary seeing how common that narrative is, especially in neurodivergent communities.
Some of you all really see therapy as a magical fix to make someone "functional" in society, that'll get rid of all their weird and annoying bits to make them more palatable to everyone else, ache that's a fucked up, cruel, and horrifically ableist mindset to have.

I love being a dog. Sometimes this working drive can get on my nerves, but when I can go for a ride or do some physical labour, it's great.
I'm a dog built for distance and hunting. My life is fufilled by doing just that. When I'm out om a bike ride, I love chasing other bikes or cars. Animals too sometimes. The other day, a rabbit crossed my path and ran up onto a bridge. Oh that was fun. It just ran into a bush on the other side and was fine.

WIBTA if I donated an old-ish, very used mattress?
CW for NSFW talk
my partner and I (both late 20s) are gearing up to plan a move and whenever we do, we don't want to take our old mattress with us. its a memory foam, we bought it new around 2019 and have slept on it since then, and while it's still usable as a bed, it's not the most comfortable. also, we have a very active sex life and have gotten...well, a little messy on it. multiple times. which, since it's memory foam, I don't think that all is coming out. I wouldn't know how to clean it frankly. like we have a sheet on it but. yeah. (also, idk if it matters, we're both STD-free so it's not like, anything beyond normal bodily fluids or whatever)
anyway I don't wanna chuck a whole usable mattress into the trash when there's people who don't have their own to sleep on but I can't help but think about the whole "don't donate holey clothes" concept. this mattress has seen some shit. WIBTA if I tried to donate it?
What are these acronyms?

Either people need to learn how to tell the difference between an “I’m sorry” that takes direct responsibility and an “I’m sorry” that signifies sympathy, or I’m gonna start responding to unfortunate information with a solemn nod and a “Sympies,” because I am tired of receiving a “Why? It wasn’t your fault” every time I try to vocalize compassion.
