just a lil book chat under the cut for anyone interested (I’m gonna be ranting a lil bit)
ok first off for anyone that has previously seen any of my posts regarding books I do enjoy a good smutty read from time to time and this summer I downloaded a bunch of books for my vacation (rip z library) and one of them happened to be The Never King by Nikki St-Crowe. The whole idea of it being a Peter Pan and the Lost Boys retelling really piqued my interest
Since then I’ve read all three books that have been released so far in the series: The Never King, The Dark One, and i literally just finished reading the third one, Their Vicious Darling
typically I like a good smut with plot and fantasy and I’m not usually one to turn my nose up at some “dark romance/themes” as long as the plot can support it and it’s done well
overall the writing was ok, there were a lot of plot holes that bothered me and I didn’t mind the whole reverse harem aspect of the plot line involving the main character, who is a descendant of Wendy Darling, Peter Pan, two Fae Princes and the “dark one” (I feel like there aren’t enough reverse harems out there as it is tbh 🤷🏼‍♀️)
And I was really intrigued by the plot overall however I do feel like the books could’ve been longer and better hashed out. Each novel was incredibly short to the point of frustration and it felt like there was a lot missing. I also feel like the entire series could’ve been handled and written a lot better. I get when it usually comes to smutty books and literotica in general, most often than not we’re dealing with straight up porn with plot but I just feel like the plot was kind of glazed over. So much could’ve been done with it without cutting out the raunchy bits and it just… wasn’t and it kind of fell flat for me but I’m not the type to stop reading a series mid way through. I was still interested in how it would all play out so I stuck through it
now aside from all that, my biggest gripe and issue with the whole series (and anyone who has read it and felt the same way will most likely agree) was the age of the main character. Although the main character is eighteen, she just turned eighteen at the start of the series and here she is having all this really crazy wacky raunchy sex with these immortal characters which are described to be young men but still. The consent is there and she’s a-okay with everything going on and she’s all about female empowerment and she enjoys sex which is great!!! we love that! But why did she have to be so young?????? I’m assuming the target audience for this series is a bit older, early to mid-twenties and up so why eighteen????? why couldn’t she have been made to be older? I get that the whole point of the plot is that she gets stolen away by Peter Pan on her eighteenth birthday like all the Darling’s before her but i truly believed her age could’ve been handled differently and I honestly think it would’ve only made the plot more interesting. Why not twenty-something or even just twenty??? she was already written as supposedly “different” from all the other Darling’s and her mom did all sorts of awful things to her to keep her hidden from Pan (as written by the author), why couldn’t the author work with that a bit more and use it to her advantage??? maybe they could’ve managed to evade Pan for a few more years and then she finally got caught and then we could’ve proceeded with the canon storyline??? that would’ve been so much more interesting story-wise. but anyway it just left a bad taste in my mouth. I get that it’s fiction but regardless she didn’t have to be so young. I just pretended she was older as I read the series tbh. It was the only way I could digest it
also Peter Pan is meant to be a child who never wants to grow up???? why is he a sex crazed animal now???
ok that’s it !

The book recs oooh pretty much if you have a kink or an interest or anything there is dark romance written for it. My biggest piece of advice would be read the trigger warnings they don't mess around. Baring that some popular authors:
H.D. Carlton : Haunting Adeline
Shantel Tessier : the Lord's univers start with Ritual and just know it gets crazier from there.
Rina Kent writes very popular books lots of psychopathic rich young adults and their obsessions
Sophie Lark has a duology the first being There are no Saints this is serial killer romance. Where a serial killer falls for his obsession
S. Massery has a series of dark hockey romance that is insane Brutal Obsession is the first
A.J. Merlin basically slasher romance
Nikkie St. Crowe has a dark retelling of Peter Pan
Harley Laroux has a couple series loosers is a reverse harem with degradation humiliation and possessive touch her and die kinks but her other series Her Soul to Take is dark romance with demons
Rachel Leigh does secret society dark romance
Lauren Biel has a series of what happens when you pick up hitchhikers
J. Rose has a reverse romance series Twisted Heathens based in an asylum for the criminally insane
Molly Doyle does reverse harem slasher dark romance
There are so many too many honestly find one that suits you READ THE TRIGGER WARNINGS for real and go from there.
Good luck and welcome to the extremely dark side
Wow that is a helluva list! Thank you very much!!

Book Blurb:
Bound to a dark king…
Everyone in the world of Under has magic. Everyone belongs to one of the six ruling houses.
Everyone except me.
When all of Under gathers for the ancient Ceremony of the Fall and my weakness is revealed, hungry eyes turn my way. For some I’m unique, a mystery to be solved. For others I’m prey.
From now on, every day will be a fight to survive.
Most dangerous of all, I’ve drawn the attention of Aon, the mysterious king who rules the House of Shadows. Dark and seductive, he appears in my dreams, igniting a desire I can’t control.
They say Aon is a monster, a killer, and worse… So why do I find myself drawn to him? His face is hidden behind a mask, but his voice and his touch enchant me.
When the magic of Under begins to change, the six houses are thrown into a struggle for power and I begin a deadly game of cat and mouse with Aon’s rivals. Because if they discover our bond, they will stop at nothing to destroy me.
King of Flames begins a steamy and addictive six-book series of villainous kings and dark romance that’s perfect for fans of Raven Kennedy, Nikki St. Crowe and Penelope Barsetti.
This fully revised new edition is darker and spicier than ever.
Review:
A forensic scientist is taken from her home on earth and dropped into another universe and forced to participate in an ancient ceremony and be placed under one of the six ruling houses... yet she's caught the attention of a much darker king who is as seductive as he is deadly, can she survive? The first book in a six book series following Lydia, a forensic scientist who is abducted into a strange world filled with magic and kings who rule over everyone. Lydia wants nothing more than to get back home to earth but she's caught the attention of certain kings, and of the King of Shadows, Aon who is about to rise... for her. Aon and Lydia share a connection, they can see each other in their dreams... and Aon is known for being the most ruthless and deadly kings.... but he was meant to be laid to rest, and now he is about to arise.... and he wants her all for himself. Aon's rivals are determined to get rid of him and when Lydia's connection to him is discovered her own life is in danger... can she trust the cruel king who is determined to keep her for himself or will she find a way to free herself? This was definitely a fun start to the series and I can't wait to see where the next book grows. This one definitely felt so short and I am so interested in seeing how the second one continues the story and the relationship between Aon and Lydia! It's a fairly fun read and very easy to get into for fans of fantasy romance books with simple structures and easy to read plots.

A couple of weeks ago I asked about people’s favorite book or books they read this year. Between Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and discord, I have a list of 123 books in no particular order that my friends and family loved this year. If it was a series then I listed the first book. Each star is an additional recommendation. I haven’t read all of these, they may or may not reflect my personal opinions, though my favorite books are on the list too. The most recommended books were How Far The Light Reaches by Sabrina Imbler, one or all of the Murderbot books by Martha Wells, and Light from Uncommon Stars by Ryka Aoki, because if there’s one thing my friends have in common across platforms, it’s that you’re all nerds (affectionate). Enjoy, and I hope you find your new favorite book!

🎵❤️ I love the winter Autumn weather, so the two of us can get together. There’s nothing sweeter, finer when it’s nice and cold I can hold my baby bat closer to me💚🎵
[said Eris, to Azriel]
Hi it’s Santa again!
Thank you so so much for that detailed response, I feel like I have a really good grasp on what you love about Azris, and it’s kind of great just how well it lines up with what I love about them too!
My questions for you this time (last ones of the day I swear) are:
Canon-verse or AU? Do you have a strong preference for one? Or for any particular AU?
What are your favorite books of all time, of any genre? (It doesn’t have to be fiction or for adults but I’m sorry to say that I’ll need you to pick non-SJM works lol)
HI SANTA, I'm loving your songs, and I'm so happy to hear we have similar interpretations/interests of these babes!
I think I prefer Canon-verse for Azris right now, I feel like there's so much there to explore!! Especially with the court intrigue aspects of them, and the IC. Plus WING, SHADOW, AND FLAME INTERACTIONS (sexual or not sexual).
I love when the shadow babies are their own people with their own drive, and especially when they're obsessed with Eris. (I gave one of them a name in my 3 Jewels fic and I think Sariel will make repeat appearances)
Favorite books outside ACOTAR, and I'm giving you a lot in no specific order because my tastes are super varied and I'm a mood reader:
The Mate Games by Meg Ann and K. Loraine (all of them, including the spin offs)
The Iliad by Homer
The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller
Dark Olympus series by Katee Robert (they're all HEA, but the HEA happens RIGHT in the last chapter and I wish we got a few chapters of them being happy after the resolution)
The Cat and Mouse Duet (Haunting & Hunting Adeline) by H.D. Carlton
Ice Planet Barbarian Series by Ruby Dixon
The Vicious Lost Boys series by Nikki St. Crowe
The Four Horsemen by Laura Thalassa (I love them all but if I had to rank them starting with my fave: Death, Famine, Pestilence, War)
I really really love Egyptian and Greek mythology & writings (considering getting tattoos of the gods and goddesses level of love).
I'm also a huge dark romance reader (the more TW the better IMHO).
Also adding my current reads: "Legendary" from the Caraval series by Stephanie Garber, "The Sinner" by Shantel Tessier, and fanfic "Burning From the Inside Out" by TheTeaQueen on AO3.
SEE YOU SOON SANTA, CAN'T WAIT FOR YOU TO CRAWL DOWN THE CHIMNEY AGAIN.
(please you can reach out as much as you want I fucking love this)

So, I've binged a lot of smut in the past few months. What's your favorite so far? What are you reading now?
I'm reading Their Vicious Darling which is part of a series of The Never King by Nikki St. Crowe. This is the third book. Now if you are interested in reading Peter Pan in erotic form... got nothing else to say there.
I am reading this with Kindle Unlimited. I pay $10 a month for my subscription and they have a variety of books to choose from.

Barbarian Alien by Ruby Dixon 4/5
Barbarian Lover by Ruby Dixon 4/5
I’m Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy 5/5
My Year of Rest and Relaxation by Otessa Moshfegh 5/5
Forget Me Not by Karissa Kinword ( @krissology ) 5/5 (My top 2022 read!) + the extra chapters in the special edition :)
In total I read 35 books (according to my Goodreads) as The Mindf*ck Series counts as 5 separate books and I also logged one 188k word fanfic from ao3 on there (not listed here). Obviously I read even more than this as I’m constantly reading on ao3 and Tumblr as well as books I started but didn’t finish (which I will hopefully go back to in the future).
Please look up trigger warnings for these books before reading as many of them contain explicit content! Both Cows and Woom are violent/disturbing horrors with themes and scenes that people may find triggering. Also the Dr. Harper books, whilst being aimed at teens I believe, also contain heavy topics. Furthermore, several of these books are considered erotic fiction so have scenes with explicit sexual content. And I’m Glad My Mom Died is non-fiction and a very heavy read too.
But I would recommend most of these, I’d say any with 4/5 or 5/5! My favourite read of the year was my last read - Forget Me Not by Karissa Kinword! It was a great way for me to end the year so I would recommend that highly :)

I’ve really gotten into dark fantasy-romance books lately and it has caused my FB ads to go absolutely wild. 😂
I have a lot of books in my to-be-read pile right now. In no particular order:
The Water Spinner by Jessie Chang
Beyond the Fog by Marina Surzhevskaya
Wrath & Reign by Nikki St. Crowe
Fire Heart by Emma Hamm
What the Lady Maid Knew by E.E Holmes
The Last Dragon King by Leia Stone
Some of these are series, and we all know how much I hate series. Book 1 is always amazing, book 2 is meh, and book 3 is hurried and trying to wrap things up. Plus the feeling of the time commitment when I got shit to do. Ain’t nobody got time for long series any more. We shall see if I end up committing to the titles that are lengthy series.
Tumblr media
Also, I’m totally new to the genre, so if any of the books I picked are just totally dreadful please let me know!

Another book review this time for The Never King by Nikki St. Crowe. This book was recommended by my bestie and I must say I enjoyed it way more than I thought I would. The story was good the plot was good it was very well written there wasn’t like a huge amount of smut but that being said when it was used it drove the plot and was extremely effective. I will be reading the whole series. But for this book I can give it a strong 8/10
