The book is Flutter - the unauthorized biography of Prosecutor Miles Edgeworth, by Wendy Oldbag.

Edgeworth is being very patient because unfortunately it's been a while since he's heard Phoenix laugh.

Ever wondered what the fictional protagonists of Distilling Destiny might look like? Well, here's my interpretation ;>!!

If you don't know what Distilling Destiny is, I suggest you go read Flipping Fate- the fanfic I'm co-writing :>! It's a fake book that exists within the world of FF- written by the one and only Stretch! (or, in real life: @collegecomics18 ;D)

There's no "canon" design for these characters, but I thought it'd be fun to try come up with some concepts :>! I actually drew these months ago with a gap between finishing each, so they all look slightly different stylistically lol

First off! Each design is associated with a playing card suit; the Knight is associated with HEARTS (♥️) , the Soothsayer with DIAMONDS (♦️) , and the Bard with CLUBS (♣). Not only can this be seen in small details, but also in their overall poses/shapes!

The shapes also correlate very neatly into the idea that all the characters are from different kingdoms- I would have tried to differentiate each kingdom's clothing style a bit more buuuuut that's... a lot of work, and we only really see a couple characters from each kingdom, so I just stuck with making each character feel distinct.

One thing I also tried to go for was making all of them "faceless" in various ways, since the characters in Distilling Destiny are embodied by their roles in a way that effectively strips them of any further identity; during the book club, the DD!characters are referred to as they are in the book- they HAVE no names, and are only referred to by their titles. They are also meant to correlate to/reflect the characters of Flipping Fate in a not-very subtle way, on account of Stretch being the author (and... [REDACTED]).

The Knight's armour references a LOT of things. Obviously, OG Papyrus' battle body (even his little blue shorts ;>), but the red plume on his helmet is meant to call back to Undyne, and some of the golden bits (e.g on the back of his gauntlets) are not only "heart" shaped, but are also reminiscent of tridents and thus Asgore and the Royal Guard.

The Soothsayer's clothes are patterned with diamonds and coins- they are both a connection to the reader/MC, but also!!! In tarot the "matching" suite for diamonds would be coins/pentacles :]!! The Bard's pipe is a fantasy equivalent of his FF counterpart's bad habits, and his blue accents are meant to be a small nod toward his brother LOL.

Anyway, this is already long as heck so why not make it longer! So here are the sketches that I did back in….. SEPTEMBER 2022?? kjdhfkjsf

You can see the original sketch for the Bard is much smaller than the other two since I did it while I was at work LMAO (plus the initial idea for the Knight I had, which ended up getting changed.)

And YES I do have some spare content about them to talk about!! Namely, I can talk a little about some of my original plans, now that I've changed both of these characters a LOT from their OG concepts. Namely... Narkissos used to be a HUGE sack of shit. She still kind of is, but she's gotten better.

I won't go into all of the original ideas for Narkissos b/c honestly a lot of them make me 😬, but just know. Original Narkissos is not a character I would ever be interested in giving any form of redemption because I personally feel like she went too far. New Narkissos gets a redemption arc but also didn't do as Much bad in the first place as the Original Narkissos, so it's not as necessary.

I don't want to spoil All of my plans for this story, but I will share a couple of things under the cut that are from the original plans for Alekto and Narkissos and the relationship between them! Some memes, some concept art, and an excerpt or two from a Narkissos Essay I started writing and ended up abandoning <3

Okay so here's a sketch I did in like...... the Very Early Days Of CUDAAS when I'd just decided that Alekto would be a protagonist. Iwas listening to Backstabber by Kesha and it made me think of these two, so I whipped this up as fast as I could <3

Essentially the concept is that this would be the moment Alekto finds out Narkissos was the one who essentially ruined their life and caused them to go through an incredibly painful and traumatic experience, all because she was jealous </3

I'm not gonna go into too much detail 'cause I am still keeping some elements from the original storyline, but uhhh Alekto has a different reaction in the new version <3 And also I've since realized that the actual villains of this story are the gods (especially the Mountain King) so even though Narkissos Fucks Up Big Time, his motivations are different and ultimately it's a lot less about personal vengeance against Alekto.

Also this isn't what Narkissos looks like lmao, this was before I properly designed her <3

And here's a meme I made with tupperbot, based on a running joke I used to have with some friends about Hekate tormenting Narkissos via telepathy (since that is one of the only ways Hekate can communicate):

Was this planned to be an actual scene? Maybe.

Essentially Narkissos's original motivations centered a LOT around him being jealous of Alekto and Hekate and ultimately I decided I just... didn't like that. As fun as it was to joke about it, it didn't make Narkissos a very compelling character to me. I like him much better now as a complicated character struggling with the pressure and duty placed on him who eventually learns that he has worth as a person outside of what he can do for others and how good of a soldier he is for the gods <3

Anyway ok last thing I'll share is an excerpt from the Narkissos Essay I ended up abandoning, which was less of an essay and more a summary of early plans for the first book from Narkissos's POV. This is the scene I like to call "Narkissos gets her ass beat by Alekto and then goes 😳 about it"

I just realized this was very Narkissos centric whoops-

To make up for that, I will also share the first picrew I made of Alekto when I was first conceptualizing them <3 The skin tone is too light, but I still like this vibe for them otherwise. Might bring back,,, Alekto with a little stubble,,,, that's a Look

not huge amounts to say here tbh compared to the others ive spared yall a horses lecture bc it could be lorge lol

the way .. botw handled horses was so fkcng good considered lbrh its entirely optional it was UGH nearly flawless ............... so ive basically just smushed some general horse knowledge into it and like ,, how population variation works + medieval horse things

i love the idea of different areas having different hossies .. im not sure HOW canon it is outside of stats but im just gonna say ive seen a lot more of certain colours in certain places whether its pertinent to stats or not

right so the botw horse model is CHUNKY which i LIVE FOR, but that meant i just threw the other classification of medieval horses out of the window because unless you do some intense breeding programmes you arent getting a classic rouncey out of that stock lmao .. i’ll mention as well that it means most botw horses would probably end up being in the heavy courser or draught territories, but with markedly higher numbers of destriers than were typical of your average medieval kingdom the other three (destrier, courser, palfrey) in historical context basically amount to; 1) an incredibly valuable and strong warhorse ideal for activities like jousting or carting around a fully armored knight, 2) a lighter, faster and much more common kind of warhorse for men-at-arms that could also be used as a hunter, and 3) another kind of highly valuable horse prized for its very smooth amble gait but used for hunting, ceremonies, or general riding instead of war - and was considered a good mount for nobles and especially noble women

i split out the two “bloodlines” too because its easier lol .. defined horse breeds really werent much of a thing for a long ass time especially in the way we think about them now. the white and gerudo lines are just distinct enough to say “yep thats that kind of horse lads!”

DONKEYS .. donkeydonkeydonkeys i love them the model is ADORABLE, im also guessing that like with the hylian retrievers theyre probably regionally variable since the compendium straight up says they are found with hylians only ?? anyway fluffy donkeys so why not

lads if you havent already you HAVE to look up draught mules theyre sweet as sugar .. mules need more love .... hinnies vary a bit more and tend to be smaller which is why there are less of them i guess but theyre good sweeties too ....... what im saying is that botw horses would make very cute and strong mules so i HAD to do it i just had to

One Flaw; stables are mean to the bone babies >:( they still wanna be horsies theyre just dead !! lbh i doubt they actually eat living horses lmao that brings out uh ssssooo many possibilities guys !!! forgive the wobbliness fjdkjfdk i had to keep reminding myself it was just sketches but i would have DIED without borrowing Tomás’ anatomy book
