You're not joking! One of your novels even ended up as a recommendation in a FB group the other day.
I love that random-ass garbage posts of mine keep showing up in people's "Based on your likes."
If you don't come to Natalie, Natalie will come to you
#the book is fantastic btw#The Last Girlscout is a great read and I keep recommending it to people#granted I also warn them that it deals with some heavy topics#but imo as a survivor it discusses them well

re-reading asoiaf and god. i feel like we take r+l = j for granted since it's been years since the theory first spawned, and it's all but canon but by god the foreshadowing for it in the books is so. beautiful almost? it's never said, it's never even alluded to, but it's just there, under the face of george's writing, from the tower of joy flashback, to the allusion of a promise ned made to lyanna on her death bed, the mystery of it all, the whole thing about rhaegars missing ruby and dany and jon's innate and magical connection. it's a masterclass in foreshadowing and keeping a secret within the text, because it's never clear enough to be in your face, but just thinking about it for a while makes it very clear why jons parentage is so secret. it rewards you for paying attention and it's genuinely such a fun thing to look for when reading, all these little gems, like grrm is giggling with you through the text, like, "omg you've spotted it". genuinely so fun
#these books are so so fun. genuinely fantastic writing in a fantasy setting. so fun to read all these little and big mysteries and theorize#jon snow#r+l=j#asoiaf#the show handles it sooooo badly btw. theres no FUN with this secret. these little clues. ugh#don't even get me started on it being SAM to tell jon. however it does score points for happening in the crypts#and. ewuhh his name being aegon. lyanna would never. that boys name is visenya

I dislike takes that Danse would be just as conservative in modernized aus when it's clearly shown his staunch views of things come from his time in the Brotherhood and his deep-rooted desire to belong to something with a greater purpose.
Not to mention lines that show much more open-mindedness that get overlooked for his harsher sentiments when you first meet him. Like the oppurtunity to be a part of something is why Danse fell so far into Brotherhood dogma and it doesn't negate the offense things he does but I feel like it's just lazy to be like "hmmm he'd def be racist" just so it aligns to his BoS beliefs.
#like i genuinely think he would like not fall into the military if he was in modern times because of all the other things he could do#he clearly has a passion for tech and mods and likely would find himself more useful as like a mechanic like at most hes one of those range#types or something but I feel like people equate his seriousness and him being a military man to closemindedness when its like having to ge#a new view point like we really dont know what he believed in before the BoS if he believed in anything at all outside of selling scrap to#survive before basically having an army recruiter have him join one of the scariest factions like why is the BoS so fucking violent???#like the BoS operates in such a way cause there is no civilian population like everyone is something or training to be so they arent really#fighting for anything but themselves at this point which is just a feedback loop of gaining more power and is not equatable to real#military people due to the fact most of the recruits are really born and bred to be soliders while say irl you have a family and country to#fight for and return to outside the military which is def grounding as Danse wouldn't be in the army 24/7 like in canon#idk its odd to me when a character that is has fantastic racism ergo the trope of bigotry to fake races people try to translate it to real#life especially when those races have not equivalent like tell me what is the irl equal to a fucking ghoul or super mutant like????#racism is not like a funny headcanon like making him a defrosting prude or by the book is whatever but he would not be a bigot just like a#narc or some shit hed tell on me for loitering but I know hed tear apart each voting party and likely the military for being self serving#and like knows all about it and it makes him sound like a politics nut but its more annoyance like I have such strong feelings about#characters who would be marginially better if they were not victums to the military like yes I believe we can fix Danse he just needs to#be around not war/the military for like a week and see people be happy existing like he doesnt know how to do that but this is a weird take#ive seen mostly from white fans that makes me super uncomfy like ur weird#anyway still fuck the brotherhood everyone is so rude like damn i know its the east coast but can we get a little hospitality fuck you#maccready was right brotherhood of squeal more like it dont worry porky we'll get you out (danse is porky btw)#fallout#fallout 4#fo4#paladin danse

Bookbinding matching set of my four favorite Fantastic Beasts fanfics, completed 2024.
I've been working towards this for quite a while now! When I first got into binding fanfiction, this was the first project I envisioned. It's not perfect but I learned a lot in the process and improved with each piece I think. The endbands definitely get better by the time I got to Sin Eater! (far left in image 3).
The works from left to right, but otherwise in no particular order, are: This Thing of Darkness by @maggieandthedragon, l'Ombre de ton Ombre by windfallswest, A Wizard's Devotional by @polymathema, and Sin Eater by @xzombiexkittenx. These are NOT a series, I just wanted my favs from this fandom to have cool matching spines. I have been privileged with the opportunity to make gift copies for two of the authors so far, with a third in progress. YAY.
I like these four works because of how the authors chose to engage in thoughtful ways with difficult topics including differing expressions of PTSD, abuse survival, recovery, and coping mechanisms, and homophobia. I particularly appreciate how these works each have different interpretations of how one main character responds to his religious upbringing and his mother using Christianity as a tool of abuse. Depending on the story, this character either claims a different theology than what he was raised to believe and find it a source of comfort, feels conflicted and undecided, or rejects all elements of the traditions that harmed him. All of these possibilities resonate strongly with me as a queer person who finds comfort in my faith, while also fully supporting my friends who have made a variety of different decisions about whether to engage with religion at all after being harmed by it.
#my art#artists on tumblr#bookbinding#ficbinding#fanbinding#fantastic beasts#gradence#here there be fandom#tailfeather binding#described#YAY BOOKS#im so into making books and mailing them to the authors. like can you believe we can make art for each other as gifts#can you believe strangers can give each other beautiful gifts for free. this is only a reasonable response to me getting to#read fanfic for free#gift economy of fandom baybee hell yeah#that is a tiny bookshelf on my regular bookshelf btw

oh i forgot, but i finished reading the half life of valery k the other day and i really enjoyed it! it had been a while since i'd read a book so specifically tailored to my own tastes, but this really felt like something made for people who rewatch hbo's chernobyl every couple of years and wish they could imagine jared harris and stellan skarsgård holding hands without feeling like they're desecrating a grave. 10/10 no notes.
#the half life of valery k#i meant that as a compliment btw. hbo chernobyl the forbidden rpf that you are...#notice how jared harris is always at the scene of the rpf crime...#ANYWAY fantastic book definitely reccommend it i had a great time#books#according to jules

went and saw the last voyage of the demeter last night! this is not the dracula from that film, but boy howdy am i in a dracula mood now
this guy is loosely inspired by @dross-the-fish’s absolutely fantastic dracula design :]
(ID: a pencil sketch of count dracula from the novel dracula. he is an older man with short, somewhat spiky swept-back hair, pointed ears, thick eyebrows, and a beard. he is backlit and smiling cruelly, showing off his fangs. his irises are slightly glowing. end ID.)
#dracula#count dracula#ellie loves to draw#the demeter was really good btw! not really book accurate but i wasnt really expecting it to be#the suspense was fantastic and dracula was absolutely horrific <3

i know book sales pitches that follow the pattern "it's X meets Y" (like it's the mcu meets game of thrones) have been shown as being a successful way to increase sales by some suspect data points but the visceral hatred this gimmick evokes in me every time does the opposite of make me click the purchase button. not only are X and Y usually things I don't want more of, but they also usually have nothing in common with the book
#the safely americanized covers that lack any personality are up there too#when i think about getting published i ask myself if I'm willing to subject my writing to the horrors of the capitalist publishing world#and then i think about the number of books i may have missed because the attempts to market them made them sound like raw garbage#and the vast quantity of fantastic writing that never gets published because it isn't deemed marketable#and the fact that even if you do the impossible and publish a book that isn't a YA romance#the best you can hope for is a bunch of morally righteous bigots on twitter harassing you#like is it really worth all that to get your writing to the people you want to share it with#and will the experience make you associate all the bad shit with your writing#personal#mp#this is not a criticism of writers who have to promote their work with those dumb comparisons btw#it's a criticism of the entire system

we're running into this "all manga/anime inspired literature is YA by default" problem at the library and i need to explain to staff members that those who watched salior moon on toonami when it was airing are in their mid to late 30s and those who watched madoka when it was airing on [insert your favorite illegal streaming site here from circa 2k11] are in their mid to late 20s.
#this is about a magical girl retires btw#looks like a fantastic new adult book that belongs on the adult shelf

Went to a book reading for a coworker/new-ish friend of mine today and afterwards we were talking about books/what we like to read and she recommended this one uthor to me and then went "oh, and she has this other really great book on vaccination!" and I was like oh no
But thank God. I looked up this book and it's actually about the history of vaccines and genuine medical corruption and why people are so deeply afraid of vaccines/toxins/chemicals etc. Which actually seems like a super interesting book! But for a second I was like oh no please don't be another secret antivaxxer you were so cool
#her book is fantastic btw#if youre interested by the way we mourn people and particularly white women and PARTICULARLY within the context of the 'true crime' genre#its basically a book about her friend who was murdered in 2016 and her quest to archive all of the stories about her friend#from the perspectives of her friends loved ones#and also piece together what happened to her and why#its called carrie carilyn coco#if anyone is interested

#the thing is: people would rather believe things are going to play out exactly how they are in the books that they'll point to anything#to back themselves up#interviews of cast members saying something that does not at all equate to 'armand is mind controlling louis'#or 'the domestic abuse did not happen'#rather than stop and engage with the show on its own#all the symbolism amazing writing and complex characters and new but fantastic changes does not mean anything#because they are more concerned about getting to a hypothetical point of the show where they'll be validated#like they can't acknowledge racism and abusive relationships and inter-generational trauma because they think doing so#makes them a bad person for....liking lestat? being white? liking anne rice as a kid? idk#and THAT'S how we get 'fandom is so toxic pcs were never this bad' 'being white gets you oppressed in some countries so pls be nicies to me#and 'these people are actually pretending to be black to cause trouble see these black people who agree with me? means i'm not racist'#'btw don't worry about the fact i follow racists and allow them on my platform i'm very popular after all that's not the real issue here'#fandom racism#iwtv discourse#to blacklist in case anyone is sick of hearing this

The Boot is Famous to the Earth (chpt 1-3) tiny book, fic by alamorn, bound Jan 2023.
Making tiny journal charms is so much fun and now that I've made one with a story printed inside, I'm DYING to make more of these! Might post some process pics later in the reblogs. Materials: cotton star-print fabric, text laser printed on acid-free printer paper, archival craft glue, marbled paper scrap for the spine, scrapbooking paper for the endpages, two weights of thread, and a split ring intended for craft jewelry. I drew my digital logo for Tailfeather Binding with a tablet in krita.
#ficbinding#bookbinding#tiny book#my art#artists on tumblr#I think this is like the 9th tiny book I've made and I have consistently improved my technique which is so satisfying#apparently I have better than average dexterity? or maybe it's just higher than average level of fixation on making tiny books#this fic is really lovely btw and not terribly long!#chosen as a gift for my friend who said it's one of their favorite fics in the Fantastic Beasts fandom#fantastic beasts#here there be fandom#hopefully will be able to finish a lot of bindings this month!#check the reblogs for some wip photos
