also watching episodes of air disasters before bed - as i always do - and the episode on the two boeing 737 max 8 crashes in 2019 still makes me so fucking mad because boeing basically got the air industry equivalent of a slap on the wrist for killing 346 people in an effort to stay competitive with airbus and its new plane
#never not gonna be heated about it tbh#2.5 billion in fines and compensation for families#and grounding the planes until they were deemed completely safe#that's all they got for it man that's so infuriating#2.5 billion is pennies when you think about the 840 billion the industry as a whole is worth#flight/risk and downfall: the case against Boeing are both really good documentaries#I am going OFF in the tags tonight I need to go to bed and read my book

If you feel nihilistic today it's good if you think about the aviation industry. (You may have to forget Boeing exists for a minute - but it's notable that Boeing's actions re: the 777 family are considered to be those of an outrageous and dangerous outlier; you're out there getting documentaries about their moneygrubbing.) It's very safe to fly because people are internationally coordinated, and literally every time there's a crash, investigators from all over the world head out to the wreckage and try to figure out what engineering failure or pilot error caused the wreck, and then everyone's training worldwide - pilots, mechanics, engineers - gets changed to make sure it never happens again. If the error was preventable enough, people can and do face legal consequences such as imprisonment. South Korea even mandated that all cockpit communications be conducted in English because, after a devastating accident caused by people hinting around the captain instead of telling him there was a serious issue, they came to the conclusion that the use of the Korean language was suboptimal because of cultural ideas about indirectness and seniority. The honesty and humility it takes to come to that decision about your own culture, for the sake of the greater good, is admirable. I won't pretend there aren't issues in aviation, but in general I believe that there's already the kind of global cooperation and sincere devotion to the public good that we were hoping to get out of humanity's expansion into space, it's just a little lower in the sky than we expected.

For the asks, 15, 25 and 29 :)
15. Do you have any hobbies? What are they?
oh ho ho SO MANY but currently the main one is bookbinding! it is also reading books. I read a lot and average about 1 book per week on top of whatever fanfic I'm also reading. I don't often read the ones I bind though. you know the joke about how buying books is a separate hobby from reading them? yeahhhh bookbinding is like that too, for me. (I mean, I DO read fics I bind, I just don't always sit down and read them in bookform once I've bound them...)
25. If asked, what is the topic you infodump about?
that is, again, so many things. the last time I infodumped about something was to a colleague who's just as into languages as I am, I explained all the modern words in English which I knew were loanwords from Finno-Ugric.
29. What shows are you currently watching?
I am currently waiting for Good Omens season 2. Shows I was watching have wrapped up either completely or for the summer: Ted Lasso, Grey's Anatomy, Station 19. once we get an airdate for OFMD season 2 I'll rewatch season 1, I want to wait a little before diving back into it. so what I'm watching at the moment is mostly films (I've watched Nimona three times already I love it so freaking much) or documentaries (Netflix has just released a whole bunch of documentaries, I've just finished watching Earthstorm, Aftershocks, Downfall: The Case Agains Boeing, Secrets of the Saqqara Tomb and Unknown: The Lost Pyramid. I've just put D.B. Cooper Where Are You? and Challenger: The Final Flight on my list).
I'm open to suggestions for stuff to watch!

Trump's Win Shakes Up Oil and Metals: What Traders Need to Know to Stay Ahead Trump's Win Shakes Up Oil and Metals: What Traders Need to Know to Stay Ahead Ever have that one friend who throws a wrench into perfectly organized plans just for the fun of it? Well, that friend is back, but this time he’s not just crashing your party, he’s set on re-writing the entire script of global markets. You guessed it, Donald Trump. As election results pour in, markets are in a frenzy, giving us yet another episode of “Trump Changes Everything”—and this one's a doozy. Brent crude took a nose-dive to USD 74.40/bbl as a stronger Dollar piled on the pressure. But let’s not ignore the underlying genius here—Trump's love for oil production could send US supply up. For those who know the secret handshake, there’s a trick here: ramping US production means increased supply and lower prices. Now might be a good time to practice the art of hedging those bets—just don’t tell the Saudis I said that. The Ninja Strategy That No One's Talking About Meanwhile, gold has decided to play it cool—by cooling off from USD 2,749.78/oz down to USD 2,701.42/oz. What’s behind it? The same greenback that’s keeping Brent down, my friends. With “Trump Trade 2.0,” the Dollar is flexing its muscles, reminding us all that it’s still the boss. And here’s the twist: savvy traders are viewing this as an opportunity. Ever heard of the “Trump Correction?” That’s right, folks are buying gold dips with one foot in the fiscal stimulus boat and the other in safe-haven territory—a spread play that could be a game changer. Just remember, it’s about staying nimble. Copper Conundrums & The Secret Weapon Now let’s talk copper—the “Doctor of Economics” seems to be self-medicating with some hefty losses. Trade wars under Trump 2.0 loom large, and 3M LME copper dances nervously around the USD 9,513.00-9,708.00 range. But guess what? The pros are eyeing the NPC Standing Committee's upcoming fiscal stimulus as the magic potion. Here’s a little-known secret: watch what China does, not just what it says. The fiscal policy maneuvers could make copper prices do a quick U-turn, and if you’re sharp, you’ll want to ride that wave before the masses catch on. Storms Brewing—Literally & Figuratively And just as Rafael graduated into hurricane status—congrats, Rafael!—we have China stepping up its lithium, cobalt, and nickel exploration efforts. Some analysts are calling it a defensive play for national resource security, but here’s the underground take: China is playing the long game. Think of it as a strategic move in the next iteration of the “Rare Metal Wars”—because, believe me, this will get Netflix-documentary-worthy someday. Traders who understand that Lithium isn’t just a Nirvana song might just find themselves ahead of the pack when EV markets go bananas again. PMIs and Precarious Predictions Meanwhile, European PMI figures are outSpain, Italy, France, Germany, and the EU gave us a mixed bag of surprises, and the UK’s Construction PMI missed expectations at 54.3 (come on, just a little more mortar and bricks, lads!). But all eyes are on the BoE, with some economists predicting rate cuts coming soon. Here’s an insight for those truly in-the-know: watch the divergence. As the Bank of England trims rates, those who bet on gilts might be in for a nice ride, while the short-sellers prepare their ‘I-told-you-so’ dance. BoE, Don’t Go Breaking My Rates The big debate is if BoE will hit us with the rate cut this week—NIESR forecasts suggest it’s coming. Traders, here’s your play: once rate cuts start, positioning on currency pairs like GBP/USD becomes a high-stakes game of ‘chicken.’ If you’re holding GBP, you might want to think about some downside protection, while keeping an eye out for a potential bounce when the dust settles. Imagine catching the bottom here—that’s not just smart, that’s legendary. A Call to Action for Those Ready to Capitalize So, we have everything from oil turbulence to precious metal twists, hurricane upgrades, and the most unpredictable PMI shuffle ever. Odds & Ends: March 15, 2023
Downfall: The Case Against Boeing. Boeing has been in the news for all the wrong reasons lately. How did a once venerated American company begin to show so many literal and metaphorical cracks? This interesting and disturbing Netflix documentary examines the issues that led to the crashes of two Boeing 737 MAX jets and which some have said have yet to be resolved. Pairs well with this interview of a former senior manager at Boeing on why he still won’t fly on a 737 MAX. The National Parks. I just recently discovered this band, though they’ve been around for a decade now. Formed in Utah, The National Parks is an indie folk band that makes music in the venerable “stop clap hey” genre. I’m a sucker for any band with both male and female vocals, and if you throw in a fiddle and violin, that’s even better. Despite the name, the band doesn’t make music exclusively about the great outdoors, though they do have a higher-than-average number of references to nature in their songs. Which is great; the world could use more music with references to the Tetons. Rapt: Attention and the Focused Life by Winifred Gallagher. I read this book several years ago and still think about insights I gleaned from it. The biggest takeaway: “Who you are, what you think, feel, and do, what you love—is the sum of what you focus on.” Gallagher takes you through the science of attention and focus and provides research-backed suggestions on how to better manage yours so you can live the life you want. Worry Coin from J.L. Lawson. I like to carry around totems in my pockets. Little trinkets I can touch to remind me of things. J.L. Lawson makes some pretty dang cool totems. One that I’ve carried around for a few years is their worry coin. It has this saying engraved on it: “Worrying is like paying a debt you don’t owe.” A good reminder for an inveterate worrier like me. The so called pilot chiming in to say that all is good seems might sus to me. Having flown for years and have had the bonus of working at Phoenix International I can say sure not all but there are some who will. They make documentaries all the time and airline safety regulations get changed because of them.
Yes it's safe (mostly) to fly but the companies are running on spending as little money as possible. This includes maintenance. ala Boeing.
Have y'all seen this 😭

12/28/2022: Dazzling December
Cornel West once said, “You can’t move forward until you look back.” so I want to dedicate this space to the year that has gone by.
I want to take this moment to stop and reflect on the year that has gone by, to remember both our triumphs and our missteps, our promises made and broken, the times we opened ourselves up to great adventures or closed ourselves down for fear of getting hurt, because that’s what new year’s all about, getting another chance, a chance to forgive. To do better, to do more, to give more, to love more, and to stop worrying about what if and start embracing what will be. Let’s remember to be nice to each other, kind to each other, and not just tonight but all year long.

Team Top 10 Tunes : Charlie Cox
03 February 2012 (X)
Radio Host: Ladies and Gentlemen! Where have you been? It’s been a belter of a summer here in the Dayglo, and we missed you! It’s been groovier than The Rainbow, ravier than the Balearics, more dehydrated than Glastonbury, more rancid than A Big Day Out, more diva than Nell’s...and where were you? Never mind you’re back, the Dayglo is heaving, the bar is open, and please welcome if you will as tonight’s DJ one of the most interesting actors around – all the way from Blighty a man who was a pleasure to do business with (on The Ordained, and stand by folks, let us see if it gets through the gate to series with CBS); smart, urbane, impeccably mannered and extremely talented. You may know him best from Stardust or Downton Abbey (ep 1) or Moby Dick or heaps of other stuff. We know him best as the IRA fella in Boardwalk Empire (seasons 2 & 3) in which he was WAY WICKED! Anyway, enough from me, the screams are too loud for me to hear myself anyway...here he is, a big Dayglo hand, if you will...for the marvelous....MR CHARLIE COX!
Charlie Cox:
I Thought I'd put together a list of slightly lesser known classics. I've had to resist listing a Dylan, Pink Floyd or Justin Beiber (last one was a joke) but hoped it would be more interesting this way.
1. Lawrence, KS - Josh Ritter
Through a strange set of circumstances I ended up becoming friends with Josh long after being a huge fan of his. I once heard him sing this one live with no microphone or amp. He just belted it out from the front of the stage. Made the hair on the back of my neck stand up. It was extraordinary.
2. Ain't No Sunshine - Bill Withers
There's a quality to Bill Withers voice that is so moving to me. Something very gravelly and resonant. He seems like a real "salt of the earth" musician. I heard that he was discovered whilst fitting toilet seats to Boeing 747's. No idea if it’s true but very cool if it is.
3. Bulbs - Van Morrison
I see that a few people have chosen Sweet Thing already which would arguably have been my pick. So for a little variation I thought I'd submit this lesser known track from the album Veedon Fleece. Really gets me excited this song especially when the piano kicks in after 30 seconds! I kind of hate it when "old timers" say it, but when I hear this song I tend to agree... "They just don't make songs like this anymore"!!!!
4. Within the Rose - Matthew and the Atlas
The vocal harmonies that these guys do are stunningly beautiful. They are still relatively unknown but are on iTunes and I think are gonna be a big success soon. It's not mine to tell but I met Matthew once who told me the story behind this one. Amazing to listen to knowing it ... sorry!
5. Telegraph Road - Dire Straights
This one takes you on a whole life journey. It's 14 mins long so if you ever want to kill an hour just listen to it 4 times. I think if there was any band I could see in concert it would be these guys. Mark Knopfler on the guitar would be sensational.
6. New York, I Love You But You're Bringing Me Down - LCD Sound System
Just recently discovered this living in NY. Don't really know the band very well but absolutely love this track and its touching melancholia. There's also a great documentary about the lead singer who decided to quit it all one day whilst at the height of success. It's called "shut up and play the hits."
7.Crucify Your Mind - Rodriguez
Talking about great documentaries. About a year after everyone else, I discovered Searching for Sugar Man needless to say it was unbelievable and I think I cried for the last 30 minutes. Two days later my girlfriend discovered he was playing so she surprised me with tickets. It felt like an historic experience.
8. Something Good - Alt J
Another new favorite of mine. Don't really have anything to say about it other than express my concerns about "killing" this song for myself by overplaying it. I seem to really struggle to not put it on every time I turn my iPod on. Or their album for that matter.
9. Gabriel's Obe - Ennio Morricone
Sound track to the film The Mission and a bit of classical to my list. I think this is probably one of the most moving pieces of music I have ever heard. Morricone, has elevated countless movies into a class above what they would have been without him. He's a maestro!
10. Untitled - Interpol
I very rarely respond to modern music that have little or no lyrics. This is an exception. I have no idea why I love it so much. It has a very dark, dangerous quality to me. Even the title "untitled" is in tune with the feelings the song invokes in me.

Q1. What inspired you to write the fic this way?
I came back to Blessed By Khonshu, My Son Comes Back to Me after the death of my dad and the loss of myself during those two years of doing care work, I did not for myself, I pushed my thoughts, my feelings downward just did what I was told.
The day of my father's death...I knew something was up, I felt something was wrong as my sister and her boyfriend was over; but nobody was telling me anything. I just went about my day as usual. I made brownies at the say so of my Aunt because my sister was deeply upset. They wouldn't even allow me to go into his room. It was until the evening that I pressed my aunt on it; but she didn't give me a straight answer; I wasn't getting her subtext, I'm actually autistic and one of my challenges is not picking up on social cues; so my mom came in and I screamed at her wanting to know WTF; she finally told me that my father was dying. Not even an hour later, my father died.
It was the worse kind of ableism; infantilization. it came from my mom. She withheld information and made a decision for me. I'd never been so angry and enraged in my life. I find myself not wanting to forgive her. It hurt and cut so deep.
I just felt like I didn't matter. Afterwards, things came out my grandmother treated my dad like shit along with her other children and fucked them big time; she just didn't care and because of my dad's dyslexia he was illiterate (this is pre-ADA). It made a lot of things make sense growing up and how my Dad barely interacted with my grandmother and grandfather; I don't blame him.
I wanted just to write a novel to vent my frustrations; so I chose this one. It started off as quick writing style not as intensive as The God and The Thief to keep people happy while I wrote that and it slowly starting becoming more and more important in my life and so the writing style became fuller.
Q2. What scene did you first put down?
The first scene that I put down was chapter 1, it OG was posted on Tumblr after an emotional breakdown that I had during my Gender & Globalization class; I was not in a good place emotionally. I had to write something dark, so I stayed up until 2 AM to write it.
Q9. Were there any alternate versions of this fic?
I would have to say there is some cross pollination between versions of En Sabah Nur in my fics.
But there are alternate versions of scenes like when Sabah Nur is connecting to the world through electronics. I was going to write a page just seeing all things he gets into like hacking all the universities in the world and getting the world's history; language files, breaking into Boeing, Raytheon and defense industry forcing them to go congress to explain what secrets got out; shutting down and causing a fire in a Trask industry production plant and shutting down a vital important part that came from Denmark so basically all his electronics and Trask industry filing for bankruptcy; shutting down pipelines in the US; shutting down trains in the Soviet Union; nearly causing black outs and watching all old documentary and broadcasts and tv shows and basically turn ALL TVs on.
Chapter 6 was OG chapter 3.
Like had planned on Erik leaving in chapter 3 (I was going to add an extra scene where he is packing up)
Charles going into Cerebro again and but unable to find Peter and going through his connection the Scotland meadows (chapter 5), however Sabah Nur laid a trap for Charles. Which makes sense with the arrow description in chapter 6. Charles's powers being de-buffed; it nearly kills him; Cerebro destroyed; Erik senses something wrong goes into rescues him and Charles wakes up that night with Erik next to him (he still DEEPLY cares about Charles).
What I have planned is more absolutely terrifying of what Sabah Nur can do. THERE Is a FUCKING reason why En Sabah Nur is considered a god. It makes him FUCKING TERRIFYING.
Charles contacting Raven on an brick phone to see if she can find Peter, waking her up in the middle of the night.
In chapter 5 that OG was Peter stirring the pot between (under Sabah Nur's control; Charles contacting him with Cerebro) Charles and Erik of one another's jealously and it was going to end with Peter losing hope and knowing no one is coming to save him. Peter needs more agency.
Then I made another twist after listening Both Reached for the Gun Chicago (Musical) ; its foreshadowed in beginning, its practically telegraphed.

ok lets do this one more time, yeah? for real this time. this is it. my name is nika (she/hers, est). i like to write and hang out cool communities like this and for the last first time, i have brought a brand new muse to y’all. below you’ll find all the details on a ms. mackenzie “mack” rae parker, plucky country gal and badass babe. please love me and her and smash that like button or send me a dm (discord ichoosenikachu#4859 ) to plot.
( tw: drunk driver, death, sexism )
B A C K S T O R Y →
meet mackenzie rae parker, born august 17, 1989 in grove, oklahoma. mack (as she’s gone by since she was a kid and it won’t be changing anytime soon) was born to two loving parents Steven and Margaret Parker, the youngest daughter of three boys: morgan, matthew, and merritt. yes, her parents did have a thing for m names--and no, it didn’t help her momma remember her name any better, like they told their kids growing up.
Maggie and Steve loved their daughter--their whole family, really--to bits and pieces. It had been Maggie’s dream to have a little girl when the couple first got together and when they had first received the ultrasound, well, they were overjoyed. When Mackenzie came into the world, there was cause for joyous celebration and laughter. Everyone was happy the Parker’s finally had a little pink bundle of joy.
Little Mackenzie’s personality was--well, let’s just say she had never been one to shy away from an exciting situation. Her brothers’ had taught her early on that life wouldn’t always be easy so she had to be tough enough to take it head on. In fact, they made it a point to remind her whenever they had a chance. Buts she was also their little sister, and fiercely protective of her. And while it annoyed Mack to no end, she adored her brothers endlessly.
Mack may not have been the strongest Parker in the household, but next to her Momma she was the wittiest. Her comebacks were always sharp and as she grew up, she honed her sarcastic, dry wit in addition to her own athletic talent.
Mack loved her Momma. In fact, if she had to pick favorites her Momma would have won every time. It wasn’t that she didn’t like her father. Her father was a good man--he was a local mechanic at Grove Automotive, always greeted everyone with a smile and cared deeply for his family. But Mack and him were never as close as she was with her momma. Maggie understood her daughter’s firey nature but compassionate heart and saw the way it warred within her--especially after she’d gotten into a fight with one of her brothers.
( tw: drunk driving & death ) When Mack was twelve, though--tragedy struck. Maggie was on her back from work after parent teacher conferences; she was the local kindergarten teacher at Grove Elementary, when a drunk drive t-boned her car and Maggie was killed on impact. thankfully (if one can say that in this situation) no one else was in the car. but suddenly the Parker family had lost its matriarch and Mack, the one person who might have been able to understand her.
She had always grown up as a tomboy--a fact that even her momma, a woman who had been raised in South Carolina to rather traditional parents couldn’t stamp out of her. But even so, after Maggie Parker passed on, Mack became even more of one, almost shunning all that was feminine away from her, as if any reminder of her mother would be the end of her as she knew it. And, for her, it might have been. It was no secret she had been the closest to Maggie--and her death hit her the hardest. Mack got rid of all her dresses, all her skirts, anything that reminded her of her mother--save for the small box of photos and momentos she kept heavily hidden under her bed. On her worst days, she’d pull the box out and talk to the photo of her Momma--it was the only time the blonde ever outwardly expressed emotions, specifically crying.
To distract herself from the grief, Mack threw herself into everything she could in high school--archery, debate, robotics club, anything to keep her mind off of the encroaching cloud that now lived around her heart. It was in Robotics club, though, she learned she had a real knack for using her hands. She had learned early on about cars and the like--her father’s occupation and brothers’ fascination with the thing gave her unparalleled access to a number of cars being torn apart and rebuilt from the ground up. But Mack--Mack was always more excited about what flew above their heads than right next to them. A junior in high school, she had made the choice that she wanted to be an engineer--one who would eventually design an entire new fleet of Boeing Jets for commercial use. She had only ever flown on a jet once--to see her grandparents after her momma’s passing--but it had been the only thing to give her relief from her sadness that day. It’s where her love affair with aviation began.
Mack graduated top of her class (nerd, her brothers would always joke) and soon found herself enrolled in the University of Oklahoma’s prized engineering program (boomer sooner!). Of course, she wanted to stay close to home--one, to keep the costs down but two, leaving her family felt wrong, even six years later. And for the most part, Mack loved it. She got involved in all sorts of things--engineering clubs, intramural sports, and even, yes, a sorority. It went against all the things she hated in relation to femininity, but her mother had spoken so highly of her experiences in the organization, and Mack felt a pull to join her. To her surprise, she didn’t hate it--and it was with those women she really started to learn about feminism.
You see, when Mack would go home, all the women in town would ask her about if she was seeing a boy. Mack had never understood why it mattered so much if she had a boyfriend or not--she was getting her degree in mechanical engineering, wasn’t that a tad bit more impressive than whatever guy she might be seeing? But soon, it occurred to her that the women in town would never understand anything other than her finding her future husband at school. The fact shocked her, considering it had never occurred to her in the slightest that shed ever go to school to get a husband in the first place. After the shock worn down, it enraged her and made her work harder. Because now, she was getting disparaging comments from the folks back home and the men in her internships and co-ops. Women can’t build things--they’ll break a nail. Why are you in pants? Your legs would look better in a skirt. Mack had never been one to bit her tongue, and on more than one occasion was able to test out what her brothers’ had taught her growing up. No one was going to tell Mack what she could or could not do. And certainly not because of her gender.
Mack eventually graduated college--though deeply in debt thanks to all those added fees for science labs #thanksUofOklahoma--but realized that going back home would never be realistic for her. So, she packed up her truck, Betsy, and headed west. Originally, she had meant to go to Seattle or Portland--that’s where Boeing was, that’s where her dream landed. But something about Charming, CA caught her eye--and she found herself intrigued. Plus, it sure didn’t hurt that no one seemed to care when she applied to work as a mechanic in their autoshop. Now she’s been here about 8 years and she hasn’t grown sick of it yet. She still has dreams of working for Boeing, but as she grows more comfortable in Charming, they seem to be slipping to the wayside.
Mack’s vibe is...well, she’s a loyal friend, a good listener and kind, though not sunshine and rainbows. Growing up without her mom really changed her--she still had a compassionate heart but it’s not as obvious as it once was. She’s still sassy, sarcastic and witty, but she is friendly as well. Smart too--and a bit of a nerd, loves herself some comics and documentaries. all around, she’s genuinely a good egg, just a little...rough around the edges at times.
H E A D C A N O N S →
Mack never, ever goes by Mackenzie. In fact, you’ll never know its her full name unless she drops her ID. The only person you’ll ever hear call her that is her father--or brothers--when something is wrong.
Her favorite food is chicken cordon bleu. She knows it sounds fancy but literally, her favorite is the one where you buy it frozen and pop it in the oven. She is a simple gal, truly.
Her favorite shoes are her various pairs of converse, although for work she can be seen wearing docs so she doesn’t get oil all over her shoes.
Betsy, her truck, is very special to her--she takes extra good care of it. She’s a 1967 Chevy C10 Pickup in a robin’s egg blue color--and her pride and joy.
Even though she loves her truck no matter what, the woman has worked on enough bikes for the various motorcycle clubs around town to know that if she had even gotten enough money--she’d get herself a nice bike. Flying down the road on open asphalt? Doesn’t get better than that.
Mack loves classic rock. Like love loves it--but also the women of the 90′s like Alanis Morisette, Liz Phair, The Cranberries--she loves a good women rock group.

WHAT IS UP, MY DUDES ? the name’s mads. short for mads mikkelsen’s #1 fan and lover —— alternatively amanda. you can call me whatever you want, though. or anytime  i am twenty - three years young, and i go by she / them pronouns. my favorite movie franchise is scream and i think machine gun kelly is the best thing since sliced bread. but that’s enough about me … so, click the READ MORE below for a brief introduction to my oc’s !
ALISHA BOE, CIS WOMAN, SHE/HER … you’re looking for sawyer kinney? town as small as this, you’re bound to find them — the twenty-two year old nephilim and student with an unadulterated love for soccer, bonne bell cotton candy lip smackers, and 1980′s romcoms. with blondies′ sunday girl set as the soundtrack of their stroll, everyone can see clear as day that they’re tenacious, and yet blithe. i just hope you’re finding them for the right reasons …
BACKSTORY …
MEET SAWYER KINNEY —— half angel, half fun. adopted by a nice christian pair in ‘97 after her mommy kicked the bucket. that’s what happens when you fraternise with angels, you see. so … daddy dearest dropped her off at one of eden’s many, many, many churches and said SEE YA !
since then, angelic endeavours have been stifled. for the most part. her adoptive parents died when she was thirteen years old. car crash. and it might’ve been partially sawyer’s fault. we can’t all control our divine urges. or the powers inherited from fathers we never knew.
premonition and other sorts of fun hasn’t been experienced since. partially due to the seizure meds her family feeds her like tic tacs. she’s got epilepsy ! except she like, doesn’t. but from an adult pov and an absence of telekinetic rages since childhood, sawyer accepts the diagnosis at face value. nobody said she was smart.
she’s a vet student, though ! so, she’s semi - smart. sawyer loves all animals ( bunnies mostly ) and has since she was a wee lass. same goes for soccer. nobody loves muddy balls as much as sawyer kinney, y’all.
survivor of three near death experiences, only one which was self - inflicted, sawyer’s kind of convinced herself to have a purpose. she doesn’t. but since the third incident, she’s been more connected to god than ever before. a poor idolisation considering he’d have her sniped if he knew of her existence.
another addition to sawyer’s idiocy is her lack of deep thought regarding the town she lives in. yeah, it’s quirky ! and people are superstitious ! but that’s all there is to it. but as she’s starting to engage more with the vamps of eden, as well as pushing for a release from her medication, she’ll have to unveil this creep - fest for what it is … well, a creep fest.
PERSONALITY …
she’s pushy. like, very. sawyer’s very engaged with her friends and family, possibly due to middle child slash adopted child syndrome. include her or die.
competitive, too. she can get kinda mean when there’s a WINNER title on the horizon. because she has to win, she must win — she’s the best person at whatever they’re competing in. swear to satan ! ( that was me, not sawyer, don’t worry. )
on top of that, sawyer’s the epitome of a social butterfly. she’ll befriend anyone at any given opportunity, and maybe that’s why she’s gonna end up dead in an alley. either way, if there’s a person she does not know —— sawyer will know them by the end of the day. so, it goes without saying then, that she’s quite the partier. drinking is fun ! dancing is fun ! okay ? cool.
STEVEN YEUN, DEMI BOY, HE/THEY … you’re looking for wolfgang baek? town as small as this, you’re bound to find them — the thirty-seven year old human and podcast host with an unadulterated love for dario argento films, his super 8 camera, and chicken mcnuggets is easy to spot. with charles manson’s look at your game, girl set as the soundtrack of their stroll, everyone can see clear as day that they’re meddlesome, and yet voluble. i just hope you’re finding them for the right reasons …
BACKSTORY …
MEET WOLFGANG BAEK —— flop movie director / screenwriter, son of a successful movie director / screenwriter, who resorted to hosting a spooky podcast. men, am i right ? always making them podcasts …
wolfie is what you call a movie buff. horror movies specifically. he loves himself a good scare ! hence why he moved to this little hell - town called eden. it was all for that sick and twisted inspiration. for what you ask — well, for his next movie, duh ! the one he started four years ago and has yet to finish … yeah, that one.
due to his father’s job he spent the majority of his childhood on the cinematic scene. both off and on screen. yeah, he got a cameo in one of his daddy’s 1980′s films ! jealous yet ? you should be. but it isn’t just because of that he has never done a sport in his life, okay … he also has heart issues, baby. a defect heart valve that got fixed ( best it could ) when he was a wee bean. it’s fine now. for the most part.
now he’s kind of obsessed with outdoing his dad even though that is the biggest cliche out of all the cliches and he’s aware of the fact. simply being introspective is not enough, is it ? he’s made a couple shorts, and one feature length — flops the whole bunch. i mean, they’re decent to OUR standards. but to this perfectionist ? nah, son. burn that shit.
PERSONALITY …
wolfie can be … callous. insensitive. a bit of a prick. not in the sense of deliberate asshole - ness, but — he’s desensitised to the world’s tragedies ( too many true crime dramas ) and he’s incredibly pretentious. it’s cinema, darling.
he talks a lot, too. TOO MUCH ! nobody asked for his input regarding the rise and the decline of the slasher genre but here he is … putting it in regardless. odds are every other sentence includes either a. a movie reference, or b. a true crime reference. pick one.
because he’s all work and no play, he’s never had a serious girlfriend. i know ! shocking, right ? i mean, look at him !!!!!!!! but no. longest relationship lasted a whooping four months and we don’t talk about that one. there might be a part of him that believes he’s incapable of love … we don’t talk about that either.
AUBREY PLAZA, AGENDER, SHE/THEY … you’re looking for muriel stafford? town as small as this, you’re bound to find them — the thirty-five year old possessed human and journalist with an unadulterated love for impromptu road trips, take-out delivery food, and burt’s bees pomegranate lip balm is easy to spot. with santana’s she’s not there set as the soundtrack of their stroll, everyone can see clear as day that they’re aloof, and yet perspicacious. i just hope you’re finding them for the right reasons …
BACKSTORY …
MEET MURIEL STAFFORD —— stanford graduate and general pain in the butt. disowned by her family and the whole ghost hunting community. things we don’t discuss: see above.
to make a long story incredibly short, merle grew up in a haunted house. or so they say … you see, when merle was nine years old, her sister was possessed BY THE DEVIL. or so they say … and all that trauma ? documented, darlings. because momma and poppa don’t hesitate to capitalise on their own children. sickening.
according to merle, her sister suffered a psychotic break, and her parents — previously z listers with an affinity for running ghost hunting blogs — didn’t hesitate to make the fact their latest pitch. AND TO STARDOM THEY WENT ! meanwhile, agnes delgado chugged drain - cleaner two years after it aired.
fast forward last year of college, and the anniversary of the notorious exorcism documentary comes creeping up. so merle says enough is enough ! girl puts her soon - to - be journalism degree to use and writes an extensive exposé on her own fam. that ought to show them, right ? well …
turns out : her input was not wanted. as if it wasn’t bad enough to have the remainder of the delgado clan turn on her, the anonymous identity she’d craved ever since entering the spotlight years ago — it is snatched from her ! safe to say she did not think it through.
so, what now ? well, we change our last name to our mommy’s maiden name and we escape the hell - scape that is texas and then, we hope nobody added your newly - zit - free face to memory. because it’s been * math years * ! okay ? forget it … you never read any of the above …
PERSONALITY …
merle has never cared for much in general, and that’s very obvious. she has a very deadpan approach to life and all of its difficulties. plus, riveting backstory in mind — she’s unlikely to share details of her life unless it pertains recent mundane bull - crap !
going against everything previously established, her attitude towards the supernatural is not skeptical. aliens, ghosts, ghouls … all things that exist. because muriel delgado grew up in a haunted house. and while her adult mind rationalised all that was seen in her childhood, it also suffered a break of its own post her sister’s death - aversary.
it’s nice to come face to face with old friends, though, innit ? and if all she has left of her past is the demonic presence lurking in the back of her mind, then so be it. beggars cannot be choosers, merle.
