anyways i am thinking about the way ashe grieves because he doesn’t actually get to grieve

when he loses his parents, he has to shove that pain away to focus on his siblings and his own survival because now they’re orphans and he’s too young to get a real, well-paying job

when he loses christophe, he has to shove it down because christophe supposedly played a role in killing his king

when he loses lonato, he has to shove it down because he was a heretic and an enemy of the church

and it’s heartbreaking to me, especially when paired with the rest of the lions who did get to grieve their losses. mercedes got to grieve emile, dedue got to grieve his family and culture, dimitri got to grieve his parents, felix got to grieve his brother and later father, sylvain got to grieve his friend, ingrid got to grieve her fiancé, annette got to grieve her father.

ashe never got that. and it breaks my heart.

i was going to do this in the tags of another post but actually i can make a full post about this so here we go

each of the lions embodies a faerghan value or belief.

dimitri embodies the fight in faerghan spirits, and the reason the fight exists.

felix embodies the independence of faerghan souls and the urge to protect what you have been given

sylvain embodies the need to break free from the old, because as stubborn as faerghus is it still broke away from adrestia when things got out of hand

ingrid embodies chivalry and the ideology of faerghan fights

annette embodies the stubbornness of the land and the non-stop nature of the work that must be done

ashe embodies the emotion of the land and the strong familial values in faerghan culture

mercedes embodies the fire that keeps you alive, the flame that sustains you

dedue embodies the prejudice faerghans have and the prejudice faerghans are faced with

and then there’s rodrigue, a combination of it all. he is faerghus. more than lambert or matthias or gustave/gilbert or any of the other faerghan adults we see. rodrigue is faerghus, and his death represents the many changes to come to the region.
