I see Regulus as a very studious person who would spend hours studying for his exams and in turn being very annoyed when his elder brother-who barely studied at all- gets better grades than him. It’s a bit similar to the way my brother and I were(he was more like Sirius in terms of school lol) and I could also see Reg feeling a bit satisfied if Sirius ever did get a poor grade on a exam that he wasn’t necessarily expecting 🤷‍♀️

Oh definitely, I always imagine him as someone who studied harder than his brother and always tried his very best, but he was never quite as effortlessly academic as Sirius, who was one of those annoying people who could rarely be bothered to study and yet almost always managed to succeed.

I actually have a plan for a short story in my notes set on the morning that Sirius's OWL results arrive - the same day as Regulus's Prefect badge. Poor Regulus's moment of glory is ruined by a blazing row started by Sirius's one single disappointing grade, in History of Magic. Orion and Walburga are certainly the sort of parents who would withhold praise for his many Outstandings and instead focus on wanting to know why he only achieved an Acceptable in a subject he found so tediously boring that he struggled to master it.

I did briefly touch on Sirius and Regulus's feelings towards academics and the expectations placed on them in this one-shot of The Black Archives. I don't have one singular timeline for all of my works, but both this and my unwritten story are both ones I set just days before Sirius finally runs away, when relations are almost completely broken down and the entire household's mood is very gloomy.
