you know. holding ari's little comment of "part of me also does feel bad" and their continued comment that they (Icarus) just want to make fable *proud* and its just not happening, so so gently. I'm holding it and shaking it. because current a lot of people really want Icarus *dead* - and I have no doubt ari is in a similar boat (she mentions she would've stabbed them if it wouldn't immediately get her killed), but also ari can at least understand where Icarus is coming from, as someone with a godly parent. and I shake that. and and and - this is the first time *anyone* has out loud admitted that about icarus. This is this first time anyone has outright said (or even implied) that all of this, all they're doing, is to make fable proud. and I hold that so gently.

(something about how ari and icarus are far more similar than either of them will probably *ever* realize; something about how ari understands better than most what Icarus is currently going through. something about how Icarus currently *hates* ari, but some part of ari cares for them so deeply. something about how, maybe when this is all over, they can be friends - and maybe bit by *agonizing* bit, they can help each other heal.)

It's Trans Day of Rememberance, time to support your local trans author while they are still alive

I originally put this thread up on blue birb hellsite, but I wanted to make a longer, more nuanced post for Tumblr. TDOR is a heavy day for me, and every time I see the list of names it makes me want to squirrel away and cry. So instead I want to spread around some books by trans authors, to uplift our voices. The books themselves are not necessarily about trans characters (mine is not) but my experience as a trans guy does inform the text, and when I read these other works, I feel a kinship to the author in that regard, however imagined that is.

I'll start, it's me, buy my horrific (seriously, read the content warning) fantasy book about young queers surviving atrocities: SUGAR PEOPLE

Next up: Δάιος, by Andromeda Ruins (@andromedaexists). A heavy anti-establishment retelling of the fall of Icarus that leans heavily into the reality of queer folk as outcast and put at risk by the powers that be. I have yet to finish it but the prose really slaps you with its urgency.

Next up: FEMININ GANGE (Feminine gait), by Molly Øxnevad, a contemporary novel about the trans healthcare system in Norway. It's written in Norwegian (bokmål) but I really hope to see it translated in English one day because it's such an important piece of literature on the state of our centralised transmedical health system here in norway.

Next up, MAO SIN RAUDE KJOLE (Mao's Red Dress), by Jan Elisabeth Lindvik, (also norwegian, nynorsk) a coming of age novel set in the backdrop of the sixties. It's only really available in Norway, and it's another one I hope to see translated someday, but it's worth knowing about, as it's a seminal novel by a trans activist with so many decades of lived experience, as the country slowly changed its views around trans folk.

Next, we have JACK OF THORNS, Book 1 of INHERITANCE by AK Faulkner, a dark urban fantasy featuring messy queers and LOTS of trauma. I had the pleasure of meeting Faulkner at a con earlier this year, and they have got an awesome thing going with the Inheritance universe. I've been enjoying Jack of Thorns a lot, it does not hold back.

Next, it's the astounding FRESHWATER by Akwaeke Emezi, a magical contemporary novel about dissociative experiences and trauma, and how they interplay with culture and growing up. A very intense and beautifully written book that isn't afraid to tackle dissociative identities AND gender identity (something those of us who have both often have to mask for fear of being denied treatment).

AND THEY LIVED... by Stephen Salvatore, a very contemporary YA romance that deals with societal issues around being gay and nonbinary. It's written from the POV of a cringey, hopeful teen, and dances between happily-ever-after romance and a pointed exhumation of incredibly dark things.

Finally, LARK & KASIM START A REVOLUTION by Kacen Callender, a contemporary YA written in a comfortably snappy rhythm, about love, friendship and a social media mishap that spirals out of control.

GN!Reader, Referencing A Dear Beloved Game, This seemed funnier if I put all of them together, Colored Bullets Rule (Felix, Anisa, Sage, Rime)

Okay do y'all remember Kid Icarus: Uprising? I won't go too into details but it was a really awesome game and I really really really hope they put it on Switch soon. But anyways my point is that the two main angel characters (Pit and Dark Pit/Pittoo respectively) do have wings but cannot fly without divine help. And even when they have help, they can only fly for short stretches at a time or else their wings will burn off.

Yeah we're gonna play by those rules :)

Okay okay okay I know I've talked about a hunter/prey dynamic with Sage before and I usually refer to it in a kink capacity but this time I mean it very literally!!! In the intro when you and Sage are in the hallway and he's looking you over, his pupils narrow a little and he is [ ] this close to reflexively pouncing because Birb. He manages to restrain himself but his flirting certainly has relevant undertones.

And on that same note, when Anisa has you on the desk?? There's a little bit of that too. Less so since she's only a half-ilephta but for a second there she is Thinking about it.

Okay so imagine that,, like at first when you're out with Felix you always have a cloak of some sort on. And then Rime warps you to the top of the tower and there's wind and your cloak kinda flies up and your wings start fluttering instinctively and Rime nearly does drop you because he Seriously Wasn't Expecting This. The only reason he doesn't is because he sees the fear on your face.

But if you can fly then imagine your cloak is still around you and you just shove him away so you can fall back off the roof and he's freaking out and about to jump after you (with the idea that he'll catch you and teleport you both to the ground) when you pull off your cloak and suddenly you're back in front of him, wings spread and the sun shining behind you like a holy light,,,, and I'm not gonna lie, at this stage Rime still hates you but he's also a little flustered.

Side note,, Felix,,,, remember when he first summoned you and he thought you were a demon? Yeah maybe you don't have angel wings maybe you have demon wings. Maybe he thinks you're an incubus/succubus/etc. I don't know. I think it's cute tho. And even if you do have the classic sorta wings his nickname for you would be 'angel' and that's pretty cute too

Felix and Anisa (and Rime) learn the spell to let you use your flight so now you can fly when you're with them! I don't think Sage can use magic. But! But my beloved Tulsi is an expert with magical weapons so I'm sure she can make you some kind of locket/magic artifact with the spell inside it so you can carry it around.

You guys have to clean up Fathom and you have to dust the ceilings

Imagine Sage and Rime get into a sight and you just dart over and slap them both on the back of the head and then shoot into the sky before they can catch you,,, Felix and Anisa are giggling while Rime and Sage are snapping at you,,,,

More importantly Rime and Sage having a rare alliance to bully Felix for being short (aka grabbing something and holding it over his head because that seems like the kind of thing both these idiots would find funny) and you just fly over and grab the item and hand it back to Felix like Here You Go Friend :) and then you give Sage and Rime the stink-eye

Sage gets stuck in a tree and you have to fly over to coax him back down. Bonus points if Tulsi is there too and when Sage tries to climb down he falls and face-plants and Tulsi just stares at him, while sipping some tea, and uses her foot to nudge his arm like 'yo are you dead' and you're just snickering because Oh I Thought Cats Always Landed On Their Feet and Sage is glaring at both of you.

Anisa helping you groom your wings,, making sure the down is cleared and the feathers are straight,,, she thinks they're so soft,,,,, really likes stroking them. Would totally sleep on them/wrapped in them if you let her. Maybe it makes her sneeze a little but she still loves doing it.

I also got protective of Hawks after all the hate he got, lol. Always wanted him to survive though because ever since he first appeared people were talking about nothing but how he's going to die and bending over backward to fit icarus symbolism everywhere, it got annoying. Hope he lives, becomes the hero he wants to be on his own terms, be the embarrassing older brother Tokoyami deserves, gets to sass Endeavor with Shouto at least once and maybe have a fanboy showdown vs. Deku :p

Yup, it was frustrating, especially the way people were determined to destroy his character (I still can't get over the Hawks is a sociopath take smh).

It's fair if people don't like him, especially after what he's done to Twice, but the hate he recieved (in his own tag too) was just so unnecessary. They were all just bitter because birb boi is best boi.

Edit: Yeah, also I want Hawks to look at all the Icarus parallels in the face too and say bitch I can swim.

Lineart for an au idea I had. Avian Alteans and Feline Galra. I’m a sucker for Altean Lance so now he’s a bird boy as well. Cat Keith is nothing new but still too good to resist.

This of course has sparked the idea for a fanfiction which I am also working on, called Icarus. I will give updates on that when I actually manage to get a chapter out. (I love writing, but sometimes it doesn’t love me…). The fic will most likely be klance centric, other pairings are still up in the air.

Still on the fence on if I should give captured/Shiro metal wings or no wings…wouldn’t want the prized ‘Champion’ be able to fly away now would we?….or maybe just stick with druid tech…. (will still have the arm though, gotta love that druid arm lol) This also means at some point I have to sketch a bird Hunk, Pidge, Allura and Koran.

Please excuse the wings, for some reason I couldn’t get the fold just right but that’s probably just me.

Another thought….since I’m doing birbs, should I go full on birb feet or more the angelic route?

“Seriousness and Sweetness” (Project Mayoniki)

AKA "Pretty birb and smol birb" ...ALTERNATIVELY: "Aislinn doesn't know how to title things!" ...Yeah, I had no idea what to put... This was pretty much a colouring test based on a specific scene in the story. This is only a tiny snippet but for context, this occurs after a mission. The main crew (minus Siku) are just waiting around when Phoenix brings up someone's faux pas. He's not the type to get angry, but if he thinks you've done something stupid, he'll tell you. Azura and Icarus, however, are the masters of getting on Phoenix's nerves. Needless to say, either Azu or Icarus having been testing Phoenix's patience to the point where Donna has to diffuse the situation. Not the most engaging paragraph, I know, but if I were a better writer maybe I would have wrote something out. But alas, I prefer to describe things with colours and tell stories visually... In other words, I have no way with words. The more I use this particular style, the more I prefer it over the the softer, more airbrush like style. I think I'm gonna keep it. I also wanted to try drawing these two next to each other because Phoenix is the tallest of the group and Donna. Is. TINY! I'll have to try doing backgrounds more often, but for now, I'm satisfied with how it all turned out.

Icarus - they are birb, i dont think i need to elaborate icarus just *is.* though i do also say Icarus is cat coded - they feel like theyd lay in sunbeams and they definitely feel stubbon like a cat does sometimes. (Also curling up in peoples laps. Icarus will both perch on centross and *also* curl up on top of him-)

Midas - Okay, ive said it once ill say it a million times, *moth.* i know its not an animal but mmmmmm midas is moth coded. Mostly becauee of how long they spemt in the Worldport, but also because uh. I said so <3

Reo - Wolf. Reo is wolf coded - but *specifically* a (stereotypical) lone wolf. Mans is alone and is okay with it; they dont need a pack and they dont really seem to want one - at least, from what little we've seen from them. Sort of that stereotypically Sherbert isolation and being okay with it. (Also i guess that idea that, stereotypically, lone wolf characters are a lot meaner? mostly just tying back to them giving a seventeen year old Quixis and not giving a shit.)

Ashril - birb. bro is so birb coded. Flighty runner lad who goes so brrr.

Caine - they are a coyote. therefore, coyote coded. Mans is a silly fighting playful lad and they do brr about it.

Krit - crab <3

Ajax - wolf wolf wolf wolf wolf. specifically a wolf with a pack. They got a little family, and they do a little hunting (murdering the people who wronged them) as a treat :D. (Also because i think ajax deserves a den. den with all the blankets that they drag rondael and emmie (and haley when shes there) into periodically.)

Cedar - Fox coded because at least one of them is fox coded. Honestly i cant tell you why i think theyre fox coded they just have vibes to me. Or raccoon. Maybe raccoon.

Epsilon - cat coded? perhaps? theyre just a silly lad playing with the things thats most recently dragged their interest.

Sherbert - *also* maybe fox coded? Or raven coded. I could see raven for them as well.

Ripley - Some kind of shark, i think. Probably a more gentle one, and not a *massive* shark - a smaller one, but i think theyd be a shark. Simply a lad.

Sherwood - i think some kind of migratory bird? Or a bird constantly moving around. Not an animal that settles into one spot for long, at the least.

Helix - uh. Fuck if i know. Something aggressive, stereotypically, i guess? I don't even know for them-

C!Rina - uh. Dog. /lh /hj. We've had this conversation before on stream many a time, and i think it speaks for itself (even if that conversation wasnt nessarily about the character aspect) But if i *have* to pick something else - uhhh. I wont- /silly
