"Brother Bear (originally known as Small Bear) is one of the main characters of the Berenstain Bears series. He is Papa Bear and Mama Bear's eldest child, and Sister Bear's older brother by two years. He is officially 10-11 years old and in the fifth grade."
Finding out Mama Bear had her first kid at 17 at MOST and looking at this already-Relatable cover like
God, no wonder this was the book that taught me adults need a good cry too
“she should be at the club” changed me as a person. forever

every work of art i've seen depicting the archivist using eye-powers/becoming eldritch comes off as way too majestic to me. yes, eye-influence has resulted in a multitude of eyes everywhere in many cases, but I have yet to come across an interpretation of any beholding-related thing being actually visually unnerving. i thought "maybe i just don't find eyes/staring to be creepy ever?"...
then i remembered "The Guest".
Linking to the short horror story vid on youtube "The Guest" below the cut. TW: for eye/scopophobia horror in the thumbnail and video (i shit you not, even if eyes don't upset you i'm still giving you a headsup).
youtube
MMM. YEAH UH.
(i haven't seen 'the guest 2' but the same creature in the thumbnail looks goofy rather than brain-piercingly-upsetting, so i think i'll hold off on watching that one.)
(i also really love the body language of the creature at the end. it endears me to them).
But ahem, yeah uhhhhhh. Fellow artists? If you want to make eyes scary? Make them upsettingly round, focused, and wrong-looking?? I dunno man, most of this is just a thought experiment into how to depict horror visually. (again, no shade on all the artists behind those lovely tma beholding works, they're all beautiful. i just wanted something that upset my own brainmeats instinctually).
#as an artist it somewhat irks me#okay scratch that it seriously irks me#like i ADORE all the art out there#but that's the problem: it's all gorgeous and beautiful#none of it is alarming or upsetting or unnerving#the beholding is still an aspect of FEAR#to be 'beheld' is to be horrified#the visuals should be horrifying#honestly eyes like these have always scared me ever since childhood#i had a berenstein bears book where the characters' eyes went round and wrong like that and i always had to look away from that page#halloween#horror#tw: horror#scopophobia#the magnus archives#THE GUEST#tma#inspiration#horror inspiration#Youtube#making eyes scary is difficult#i can't think of other ways to do it#like sure you could do clusters within clusters#but that veers away from the eye/seeing being horrific into other unrelated facets of horror

For all those “Berenstein” Bears conspiracy theorists, I did reports on two of those books in the 80s when I was in second grade. I present them here.
I was copying those titles, not remembering how they were spelled. It’s always been Berenstain.

Bravern ep 9 spoilers)
I've been dumpster diving on twitter in search for supe fanart (I didn't find many) but i came across an interesting analysis. Ep9 has shown that the popular theory was right, there are multiple timelines, and this user claimed that we've seen multiple timelines in past episodes. There are some evidence that look really convincing.
In ep 2 smith busted the door to the torture room open, but after that the door looks completely fine
In the scene where they changed lulu's hairstyle, the background changed drastically (seaside + runway turned into buildings, with isami watching) they shouldn't have walked that far for the place to change so much
In japan, the command people were first shown observing the events outside by binoculars, but then changed to monitor. Why go inside? If it's safe to observe in the beginning why bother going inside
Also, remember the risque scene of smith with lulu? It seems the bg also changed between what seemingly looks like seamless scenes. The green duvet is messy in the first scene, but neat and undisturbed in second scene?
Also, this is my own observation, but the place where superbia meditated also changed. In the beginning the place is completely clear, but in ep9, there are many dead trees very close around him.
You could argue he moved, but if you look closely he's on top of a rather tall hill(?) and there's no other place with the same height in immediate vicinity. He'd also made the decision to sit there and think, plus (from what i understood) he could get a good grasp of the situation with bravern vs deathdrives so it's not like he changed place to get a better view
There's a post by another user pointing out that hibiki's injury has changed from head to hand (or vice versa? I don't remember) but I couldn't verify this yet.
There are many more things pointed out in the thread, but they're non visual stuff that require checking and might be affected by subs. Please check it out yourself. I think bravern really needs rewatching after all the revelation.
I think it makes sense that there are different timelines. Because these different timelines could be based on smith/bravern's memories (before and after transformation). But I wonder if we'll continue seeing these in ep10 and so on because starting from knuth's explosion, he can't possibly see what happens in the future
#bang brave bang bravern#bravern spoilers#seeing all these differences feel like im being gaslighhted (?) or having berenstein bear effect(?)#since these are things we never notice but once stacked up amounts to huge difference#chipsays#join me in the most difficult find the differences game ever

Without looking it up or using spell check (you gotta spell that shit from the heart*) what is the name and spelling of the brand name of the after school snack that is basically a bite sized pizza-flavored hot pocket?
I asked ChatGPT to describe it without using the brand name so here that is:
"They're bite-sized, savory snacks with a crispy outer layer and a filling that's a mix of cheese, sauce, and various toppings"
#*personally this feels like a berenstein bears situation to me right now#and I need to know if I'm alone lmfao

An excerpt from Down a Sunny Dirt Road: An Autobiography, by Stan and Jan Berenstain (the creators of The Berenstain Bears).
There's something I personally find very melancholic about the fact that from Stan Berenstain's childhood to long after his passing, there are still people who are furiously adamant about his surname.
(Personal rant below)
I find the whole Mandela effect joke regarding the spelling of Berenstain vs. "Berenstein" to be very irritating. It was funny at first, but quickly got old after the first few (thousand) times everyone kept repeating it.
While I myself had the same problem as a child, it never really bothered me that much. There's just something so annoying about large groups of people insisting that an easy mistake to make is nigh impossible compared to something clearly more logical like shifting to an alternate universe. Like, don't get me wrong, theorizing about alternate realities is fun and all, but I'd rather it be based on something a little more interesting, like an entire book or movie that doesn't exist, as opposed to something downright insulting, like adamantly insisting a Jewish surname is spelled wrong (or that an important anti-apartheid activist died in prison decades before his actual death). Why is it so difficult to admit that someone made an honest mistake and it got repeated ad infinitum?
Also, I'm always miffed that whenever Berenstain Bears is brought up, people ONLY want to talk about a supposed typo. Like, seriously, that's ALL you want to talk about? I want to know who your favorite character is! Which was your favorite book? Which of the two TV series did you grow up with? Did you watch any of the original five TV specials from the 80s? Do you feel weirded out by the creators' son taking the books in a heavily Christian direction? I'm begging for an actual nostalgic discussion, please!

What would be your voice fancasts for your version of Donkey Kong/Donkey Kong Country franchise?
Fun fact: the reason I never answered your DM to me with this question is mostly because I was trying to figure out who would be best for who, but also because I was trying to decide if I should make this a public thing or not, so thanks for helping make that choice. XD
I know this says fancasts for my version, but I went more of a "general voice headcanon" route for most of these. Some also have the actual fancasts, or at the very least the people I wouldn't be upset about having be the VAs even if the voice winds up different from what I hear in my head.
I could really only figure out the Kongs, so uh... Ye. Also, all the underlined names are linked to pages to see more of the stuff they've done!
DK: Mark Fischbach. Zero rhyme or reason, other than I spent a full year drawing practically nothing except DKC characters set to GMOD moments, mostly Markiplier's, so now it's all I hear. However, I would not be mad if Richard Yearwood reprises the role (or even Sterling Jarvis).
Diddy: Ben Schwartz. My Diddy is more teenager-adjacent than most people's probably is (around 14), and I'd be lying if I said my hyperfixation with DuckTales 2017 a couple years back didn't have anything to do with that.
Cranky: This one is surprisingly hard to pin down. Here recently I've been imagining him more with Keith David's voice, but in the past I've also imagined David Tennant, Bernard Cribbins, and Aron Tager (his VA in the cartoon), the latter two of whom have both sadly passed in the last couple of years. I'll also happily take Bill Farmer, tho. For me it all depends on the tone and other factors of the situation presented (eg, an AU, the actual game series, others' interpretations, etc).
Funky: Gotta still be Damon D'Olivera, his VA from the cartoon, but I wouldn't be against Phil LaMarr or Greg Eagles voicing him either.
Candy: I do not hate Joy Tanner's voice for her in the cartoon at all. In fact, like Funky, it's mostly all I can hear for her. If I had to choose someone else to fill the role, it'd probably be Jennifer Hale.
Dixie: I think I had the most trouble with her surprisingly. I didn't necessarily like or hate her voice in the cartoon, but I have to go with Mae Whitman on this one. I was thinking along the lines of how Amity from The Owl House sounds, if you wanna know the thought process.
Wrinkly: Wendie Malick is the only voice I've really actively pictured for my specific version of her. The second I heard the line "Wait---those are MY dumb kids!" in The Owl House, my brain has never let the idea drop. However, if there ever actually is a show version of the DKC series that included her, I would not be against Tress MacNeille being her VA.
Swanky: Will Arnett is just how I hear him by default (I blame DK Vine in part). IDK, similar reasons to Diddy in that it has to do with other fixations of mine colliding into my brain. However, here recently my brain has also been tickled by the idea of James Monroe Iglehart being his voice in a version of the show that actually uses him.
Kiddy: OK, so y'all know how my brain runs. Sadly, sometimes I forget about him. However, I feel like Dee Bradley Baker is a safe bet.
Lanky: Rob Paulsen. IDK, even his normal voice just works.
Tiny: Kristen Schaal, solely because sometimes there's moments of her that cross my mind that make me go "Oh that's Louise Belcher (or Mabel Pines) vibes."
Chunky: Of all the actors, voice or otherwise, I've dug through today to find voices for characters I otherwise couldn't picture... I'ma have to give Chunk the monk Richard Horvitz. It also helps that this is literally one of those VAs I grew up hearing, so I can imagine the role working well, although other VAs mentioned throughout this list could potentially also work well.
Originally the Kongs from the actual DKC series proper is all I was gonna do for now, because it's late and brain hurty, but y'all know me a little better than that. I've got at least two bonus people for y'all.
K. Rool: Similar to a couple of characters above, I'd love it if Benedict Campbell could reprise the role, as he's literally the only voice I've been able to hear for him for years. However, that being said, there are a few others I will accept in his place, being Mark Hamill; Keith David (mentioned above); Clancy Brown; and Alex Hirsch.
DK Jr.: You said it was a fancast for my version, so while I know some people think Junior and our DK are the same person, in this instance I don't. I've racked my brain for a while trying to figure out who I best hear as his voice, and I had songs from a certain Disney animated show playing on loop last night and anyway, long story short, Jeremy Jordan is the headcanon voice for my version of him.
#alex speaks#asks#yourstrulylightstar283#fun fact: this took me hours to do because I got lost in bill farmer's filmography#donkey kong#donkey kong country#anyway did y'all know ben campbell was also the voice of papa bear in the berenstein bears because i didn't#headcanons#headcanon#why alex hirsch? because why not#anyway i didn't wanna put him in the list because he's not really a character canon to dkc but asari is either rob gavagan or b dylan holli
