Yeah the end consumer is not paying the tariff to the government but the buyers who are paying the tariff are going to increase the price the same amount so the consumer is gonna have to pay it.

Here's the issue I keep seeing and the issue I had with my grandmother

Let's say China makes the best paper clips for the cheapest price when China is selling the paper clips to buyers in America, China is not paying that tariff. The buyer who is purchasing them is. So let's say the tariff is going to increase the price of x amount of paper clips by $1000 dollars. Well the buyer is not gonna just eat that $1000. He is now gonna increase the price of x amount of paper clips by $1000 and maybe a little extra for his trouble so the end consumer is paying $1000 more for x amount of paper clips

Soooo many people think that China is paying the tariff when it's the business people buying Chinese goods who are paying it. And EVEN IF China was the one paying it, they would still not just eat that $1000. They would increase the price to the end consumer to make that money back. Either eay even tho the end consumer is not paying the tariff directly to the government they are still paying the cost of it.
