It would be messed up if immaterial souls existed and had an eternal (or nigh-eternal) beforelife, existing for countless eons before getting incarnated in a body (and undergoing amnesia), but once they did get incarnated, it was a one-way trip: there is no afterlife, and those souls cease existing forever once the body dies.

(I judge this “approximately as likely as the most well-known alternatives involving immaterial souls,” i.e., “unlikely.”)

It feels plausible to me that there's some sort of beforelife character creation screen because I can see myself investing stats in precisely the way they've rolled out. I would recklessly give myself a pittance in Health in order to max out other areas. Someone over my shoulder could have been like "are you sure you want the Lung Full of Bees trait?" what do you think of the sun

thankyou for the ask :-) i had to think about it. the sun is our closest celestial body but i dont feel much connection to it specifically. in general it is one of many beating hearts of the universe. it makes me remember that while we're all one thing, that thing is made up of so many different parts that act in their own purpose....i admittedly dont have much of a connection to our sun... but i find envy in such a thing that blinds you when you look at it. i think all stars are connected by strings of spiraling white, same way mammals are connected in the fact we were born the same way. i think the most beautiful death is that of a star. i think i came from a dying sun in deep space. i think suns are mirrors into the dimension made of pure energy, the same that covers ours with its web. i wonder if we return to that great mass of fire when we die,& if its a portal to that dimension. after & beforelife all at once

Ok so like i just saw a post saying "oh my god how long have i not been here?" And like i went down a mini existential spiral because like if there is no afterlife then is there no beforelife? I had this thought since i was 4 about how many souls there must be of people not born yet waiting around infinitely. What if you're never born? Then i scroll down and its about a photo with a bunch of stuffed animals at a tea party

Alright, I guess it's time to tell y'all about Carean, which isn't quite an OC as he was a character in an ongoing forum RP, but it's close enough frankly. Carean was a werepyre, a half-vampire half-werewolf in the world of the Adventure Quest games back in the day where being 50/50 two magical creatures was the single coolest things you could be. At any rate, this combo made your boy a bit of a "best of both worlds" kind of situation. Again, what can I say, it was the convention at the time.

Now, as for backstory, I never really got into that, and as a consequence, your boy has plot-convenient amnesia. All he has to his name is a knife that's more like a butcher's cleaver, a compulsive need to protect people, and a telepathic slime-friend named René. As luck would have it, he comes across a castle full of these twice-cursed drama bombs, and many soap opera shenanigans take place, as well as life-or-death brawls with invading vampire hunters and the odd hostile werepyre. There was also that one time he fought his nemesis from his beforelife, who was also functionally unkillable until Carean came up with the bright idea to burn him to a crisp. That seemed to do the job.

There wasn't an awful lot to Carean really, he was a "won't start a fight but will damn sure finish it" type of guy with no self-preservation instinct to speak of. If you can imagine a somewhat more socially gracious Wolverine that was basically him. His main claim to fame at Werepyre Castle was consistently getting his ass kicked in combat. He'd usually come out of it on top but mostly due to his regenerative abilities and being too stupid to quit.
