have a heart / post the links
every day i swoon over pw and send G-d's fury towards him for being a fake woke broke-activism lib 💔
yeah, i'm gonna judge him for not doing more with his platform. i'm much less famous and i use mine, so why shouldn't he? especially when he has a *history of progressive political activism up until the backlash against his blm support. which is understandable on his account! people treated him like shit! he didn't deserve the racist hate he got for that. nobody does. but he still gets hated on for being a biden liberal, even when he says the safest, most milquetoast things, so why not just go all the way?
(*at least some; don't fuck with me about the amount. he used to be much more open about his political stances and much more readily posting/participating in charity work. i want him to show that kinda spirit again, especially since it could potentially be more important now than ever.)
if he can post the gfms for the la fires, then he can post one (1) free palestine post. if andy can do it, pete should be expected to as well, especially given that pete has always been one of the most (if not the most) politically outspoken members of the band.
whatever happened to sleeping in cardboard box cities for uganda and sticking it to conservatives, even at the dinner table?
he knows how to share charity posts and take part in charity events and raise money for charity, but he won't support one more cause that'd cost him nothing? posting about it would cost him nothing! he's already made his millions. he already has countless diehard fans. the amount of fans he'd lose from this would be nothing compared to the amount of people whose respect he'd gain and lives he'd save.
whatever happened to scaring off the homophobes equals gaining more gay fans? the same sentiment applies here.
he'd lose nothing, if not gain more respect from fans and non-fans alike from showing his support for palestine in even as minor a way as posting links to verified charities like gaza soup kitchen or palestine children's relief fund or anera or arab.org.
he doesn't even need to make a statement about the war itself to post charities and gfms. all he'd have to do is do is post the links, as simple as that. that post could be the difference between a child starving today or not!
i understand that a lot of us want to be cynical about 'maybe he just doesn't care' or 'why should we expect celebrities to care?' or 'celebrity endorsement doesn't matter,' but it does matter. he has a platform he could be using to boost up a life or death cause, and he isn't, despite the fact that he has had a history of doing such (to an extent) and one of his fellow band members has contributed (even if in a small way) to the cause, so why shouldn't we expect that of pete, mr political activism himself?
i know i'll get given shit for daring a rich man to care from the comfort of his california mansion, but, you know what? fuck you. it does make a difference. his support could make a difference, even if it's a small one. we should expect better from the rich and powerful in this g-ddamned country. me wanting more from a man who used to do more is only just.
(i also know i'll get told, 'do you really think he reads shit like this? do you really think he cares about what some random tumblr user thinks?' and i have to say yes, i kinda do. they're obviously tuned in somehow to their fandom, even if through social media interns, so there is a chance this could reach him directly. besides, if nobody ever says anything, he'll definitely never hear it. even me posting this in a small way, just getting a handful of notes, is better than not talking about it at all. i'm doing my part to make a positive difference in this hell of a world and i think you should, too. it takes having stars in your eyes to light the night sky, for fuck's sake.)
pete wentz posting about it, bringing attention to it, showing that celebrities DO care and can use their platforms to boost causes and make a difference, could be the difference in several life-saving donations being made.
even just spreading awareness about the cruelty of the genocide is better than nothing. i'm not even asking him to donate, which he should also do! but the least he can do is post links to charities. the bar is on the floor! post the links, pete!
