its really uncomfortable that hollywood allows such graphic sex scenes and graphic rape scenes with characters who are literally supposed to be teens (ex. euphoria, game of thrones, 13 reasons why) but when you watch movies like the hunger games series where they portray how awful a corrupt government can be to their citizens, it's always so sugarcoated.
for example, katniss was severely burned by the end of mockingjay, peeta lost a leg, the tributes that died in the 10th hunger games before the games even started were hung and paraded in the capitol which we didn't get to see in the movies. and mind you, this torture wasn't written by suzanne for no reason. it's because she was inspired by the iraq war in which torture like this actually occurred (remember when the american military brutally tortured the iraqi prisoners?)
now of course, no one wants to watch literal torture on their screen. i don't wanna see graphic sex scenes or graphic torture scenes. and in the event that gruesome scenes are shown, they're in horror movies where politics and government-related stuff is completely removed. but the question needs to be asked: why is hollywood okay with sexual violence and horror gore but hesitant to show political violence?
#the ballad of songbirds and snakes movie is superrrr sugarcoated#like the book was super gruesome and made me hate the capitol so much#it really showed how brutal they were#like even clemensia'a condition wasnt well portrayed#the girl was legit dying from the genetically modified snakes#anyways just a thought#tw rape#tw violence
