Canonically classical piano music. Might have a few operatic songs. Really not varied and considers most modern music to be senseless noise. Puts up with whatever you want to listen to as long as he doesn't hate it too much, and maybe you can broaden his preferences…maybe. Slowly.

Tohma

He can handle and appreciate classical but it's not his favorite. He does like more industrial, rap, and hip hop type songs, the exact type that Jin would call senseless noise. He's doing his little paperwork in his little monocle and he's listening to Tupac.

Kaito

Varied!!! I don't think he gives himself enough credit for the variety of music he listens to and enjoys. Knows and likes popular and viral music, but also if you're like hey this song from 2003? This song from 1987? His song from 1954? He probably knows it. He doesn't love all of them and he pretends to only Like the “acceptable” genres and new things, but I think you could play smth old af and he'd be like oh yeah my gran loved this- and he would know it.

Lucas

Guy who admits to not knowing much music. Only the absolute most popular songs he knows, and even then, it's like the catchiest bit or the chorus like babe is NOT listening to music that often. Might have like An Album that he knows well and enjoys but like it would be very limited. Share things with him! He's open minded enough to learn more.

Alan

Another “I don't listen to much music” guy but I think he knows like dad rock from the 2000’s. I don't think he necessarily loves it, he just recognizes it and if he wants to listen to music for some reason, well, Three Days Grace is there and he knows how to type that into yourtube (maybe. Maybe he has to ask Leo for help. Maybe Leo pulls up something completely different. Probably.)

Leo

A pop music enjoyer. Brat summer Twink. Olivia Rodrigo fan. Also likes dance and club music and has a preference based on country of origin. Does NOT like Vocaloid or Nightcore or probably even trance and house music of the 2000’s. He's like ew that old person music?? What am I, 30??? Very opinionated and a song he loved two months ago, now he's like that's absolute trash lmao why would I like that?? Impossible to keep up with his taste.

Sho

Listens to whatever Leo puts on, he's not a stranger to the club, but I feel like has some secret artists and genres he likes that he won't admit to under pain of torture. Like maybe he likes country or kpop or something and he's like God I can't let Leo know this because I'll never hear the end of it. But he listens to it while he's at his food truck.

Haru

Can you not imagine him enjoying a good Cher song? Some Abba? 70’s-90’s I think is like on lock for him. He's turning up, he's blessing the rains down in Africa. He knows Destiny's Child probably. Sometimes he'll be like oh yeah I know new music, like what was that song? Huh? Toxic by Britney Spears came out in 2003? Guess I don't know new music than haha!!

Towa

Hes like ~~~~!!! ~~! (This shit fucks) Listening to birdsong and the bubbling creek. But he's also not immune to A Thousand Years by Christina Perri. He likes love songs! Mostly sweet love songs, not tragic or lost loved ones (probably no Adele). He will enjoy Haru's music as well, but only for Haru's sake.

Ren

Like lofi beats to chill and study to. Movie and game soundtracks but none of the fun ones. He's NOT listening to Decode from the hit movie Twilight and he NOT enjoying Megalovania from Undertale. He would relent to the To The Moon soundtrack and other indie game osts (if not because he enjoys them then to be superior in his Niche tastes).

Taiga

His music taste goes like this:

If you ask him what he likes/wants to hear, he's like ….that one song, it's like duh duh dun…no? Whatever. And he gives up.

Romeo

Let me be real with you. You will not know his favorite bands. He doesn't expect you to know his favorite bands. His favorite bands are like experimental bands from Europe who release a song only on the new moon and it's behind an ARG to get to and hear and there's only 5 physical copies of their VINYL ever made.

He also endures whatever Haru, Rui, and Leo listen to and complains only when absolutely necessary.

Ritsu

i cannot take him seriously. like the little Einstein’s theme?? Jokingggg. 😐. He probably doesn't listen to much music, probably only things he remembers from childhood, and then instrumental things occasionally but claims it's mostly just too much of a distraction. He listens to like audio recordings of law books and court cases.

Subaru

I don't know I just think he secretly likes 80’s ballads and girl bands. He likes more traditional music, instrumentals, opera and musical music, and probably can appreciate even like true classic jazz music. He has a lot of patience and tolerance and goodness in his heart and will listen to just about anything and be able to appreciate it, but if it's his choice, he is probably not listening to noise metal.

Haku 

Okay Varied. Okay six thousand songs on his playlist and that's just one playlist. He just can't stand repeating the same songs over and over so he listens to anything and everything. He doesn't always remember every song that well, because there are so many and he doesn't listen to every single one daily, but there's a good chance if you know a song, he has it somewhere.

Zenji

Like Haku! He does appreciate traditional Japanese music and instruments, but he is an art lover first and foremost and will have something positive to say about anything you let him listen to. He and Haku are probably like sitting around going from YT recommended song one after the other and just being like oh yeah this Swedish dance pop is good, yes the Mongolian throat singing is good too.

Ed

VARIED but he also goes “ah, a song from before you time…I hope you'll appreciate it,” and puts on Megan Thee Stallion and listens like it's Vivaldi. He's like these Gregorian monks chanting are so musical. This bardic interpretation of Hips Don't Lie goes hard as the kids say. Blue by Eiffel 65.

Rui 

Not immune to boy bands and girl bands. He likes upbeat things! He might dress goth and live in the goth house but his soul is glittery pink. He listens to a variety overall, but isn't very into anything like screamo or heavy metal. He gets bored listening to anything too slow and level. He, like Romeo, will listen to Haru's music, but unlike Romeo, he will sing along.

Lyca

Doesn't know much music! Likes whatever Subaru likes, he guesses. Doesn't like some of the songs Rui or Ed plays but those are just random misses on a spinning dartboard because they could be anything. He's figuring it out and will listen to anything you want to play for him!

Yuri 

He does not like classical music as much as he claims to. He's like yeah yeah, Beethoven, that's top tier…obviously… (bored out of his mind). Guy who NEEDS to listen to to like. Russian hardstyle and Slavic dance music but he won't. He deprives himself.

Jiro

Listen to me. I wrote all of these because of Jiro. Closer by Nine Inch Nails. Bauhaus. Type O Negative. I'm SAYING he listens to goth and more gothic rock music and you KNOW if Yuri pulls his headphones out to yell at him, he just hears Tear You Apart by She Wants Revenge and he's like… I don't want to talk to anymore I changed my mind stop listening to freaky goth music. He also can hear like a biwa or other traditional instruments and feel comforted and familiar with them, even if he doesn't know why.

Maybe It’s You

THIS LINE. It fits ianthony so well- I mean, have you seen the way they look at each other? There are so many examples of Heart Eyes Padilla, and Ian always looks so proud when he makes Anthony laugh. Exhibit A: the Trivial Pursuit TNTL. Exhibit B: the way they looked at each other when they were both masons during the Werewolf vid. Exhibit C: the entire 2008 Smosh Bit City segment. These two are so happy to be together it’s leaking out of their eyes.  

A Thousand Years

I recently rewatched the Reading Anthony’s Angry Letter video, and these lyrics reminded me of that. I think deciding to try to be friends again, to become business partners again, to intertwine their professional and personal lives again had to have been a scary decision. It’s a lot! But Ian and Anthony have mentioned that everything had to happen the way it did, so it was all worth it. 

In the movie version of their story in my head, this song plays during this scene: Ian and Anthony are sitting on Anthony’s deck, it’s nighttime and they’re watching the stars and chatting. There’s a lull in the conversation, and that’s when Ian asks Anthony to buy Smosh back. Anthony agrees, this song starts playing, they kiss, and we cut to a montage of cute moments throughout their friendship starting in middle school all the way to the reunion lunch. Fade to black. Also, I’m sitting in the movie theater crying into my popcorn bag.

Favorite Record

Ok, now that I’ve dried my (happy) tears from that last song, here we go with the next one. I’ll admit- I’m not the most well-versed in old Smosh lore, but it seems to me that music was something for Ian and Anthony to bond over. Like, in the Herd Mentality video, Ian was so sure that he and Anthony could name the same music artist, and in the I Spent A Day With Ian Hecox, Anthony mentioned that he listened to a song he and Ian used to listen to together right after he left Smosh. So; in my head this song represents how Ian and Anthony used to be these two middle schoolers playing video games, listening to music, having so much fun together, and then they grew into adults who still choose to have each other around. Similarly, I’ve seen a couple Instagram reels that friends who grew up together do that have a caption like- ‘me loving her at 26 remembering how I loved her at 12.’ And now I’m crying again.

When I was a kid I used to love Britney Spears. Her music videos fascinated me - they were colourful and they seemed to have a story to tell, so I adored watching them and making up my own stories that went along with what was happening on the screen. I didn't know English back then at all, so I didn't understand a word, but her songs brought me joy and I adored her.

When I got a bit older, around maybe 8 or 9, it turned out that liking Britney Spears is BAD TM. Because she is a stupid blonde, you see. My parents told me I was too smart to listen to trashy pop. They helped me get the CDs, yes, but they were always given to me with a 'eh, I hope you will grow out of it soon'. I was a smart kid, I shouldn't listen to stupid things.

My peers also mocked Britney, telling me all the other artists that were better to listen to, like Christina Aguilera. She was the smart, edgy blonde, so if I had to listen to silly songs, then I could at least pick a more mature, better option.

There were other artists I listened to, of course, it's not like Britney was the only one that spoke to me, but when I learned English enough to understand what the songs were about, I grew to like them more - the songs about trying to be your own person, about not accepting what other people tell you you should be. About parents deciding what you should do and like. They resonated with me, even though I was 'too smart' for that sort of music.

As most kids do, I started to hide it. When I was 10, maybe 11, I made a very good impression of being over it. I listened to Rammstein now, sometimes to Linkin Park. It was much better, according to many.

My dad told me he was proud of me when I told him I enjoyed Sabaton. "Finally, you grew out of your stupid era!"

I was sufficiently shamed by that point to never mention my Britney Spears phase. It was the butt of jokes at family dinners still, because it was such a funny thing for a kid to like silly music. Now that the kid was over it, we should mock it as viciously as possible. Just in case said kid wants to revert to the old ways.

To be completely honest, I copied that approach - my victim of choice was Adele. It was in high school already, and I absolutely abhorred her songs. I found them whiny, overhyped, unnecessarily tearful and man-oriented, they all sounded the same to my ears, so whenever someone said that their favourite song was something of Adele's, my first thought was 'but you are smart? Why her?'

Fast-forward to now, and with Britney Spears's book released, it turns out that listening to her is okay now. It's feminist. It's fine and even good to say outright that you are a fan. Because she is a victim of abuse now, so it's fine and morally correct to like her. Her songs and lyrics have value now. Curious.

The thing is, I truly did grow out from my Britney phase. I retain some sentiment for a few songs, but either it's simply not who I am anymore, or I successfully eradicated my interest in her to stop feeling ashamed whenever her name comes up in a conversation. Doesn't matter which one it is, the effect is the same.

However, now I am old enough to see that what was done to my Britney phase, I applied to other singers - Adele, Billie Eilish, to name a few. There is always a woman singer to hate, someone whose lyrics and music "you are too smart to enjoy".

There is no real take away from it really, all of that are just musings born out of an idle mind, but now I believe that songs are a bit like poetry - you either connect with it or you don't, either it touches you or it doesn't. One person will see themselves in Adele, someone else will find themselves mirrored in Billie Eilish, someone else feels seen whenever they listen to Mitski. It's a universal feeling we all experience, to like a song and think 'wow, this speaks to me!', we all just have different tastes and different experiences.

I just know that right now, I no longer want to be the person who says 'I thought you were smarter than this?' whenever someone shares their favourites.

Just Dance Story Mode 2025 predictions

Song 1- (Night Swan) Queen of the Kings by Alessandra Mele

I picked this song because this song matches her bravado and self-glorifing ideals. She refuses to see herself as a perpetrator, instead seeing herself as a self-liberated queen who deserves everything she has achieved.

In the background, we see the corrupted Just Dancers doing her bidding, rounding up captured coaches, causing destruction and devastation (sort of like evil Canned Heat)

Song 2- (Jack Rose) Grenade by Bruno Mars

So this song takes place as Jack is about to embark on his mission to save his friends. He's so done with his mother at this point and he's finally letting this anger and defiance

During the bridge, Jack connects to the flow in a new way that is able to cut through his mother's dark flow. Not enough to truly break Night Swan's control over the Just Dancers but is essentially the helping hand or first step to breaking control themselves.

Song 3- (Sara) Dog Days are Over by Florence + The Machine

I think it's about time Sara had her own character centric dance. Especially since we didn't get to see her as herself much in story mode this year.

Over the course of the routine, she is able to remember the joy of dancing alongside her friends and being in the Danceverses, thus breaking free of the connection to Night Swan as she no longer dances for admiration like her.

Song 4- (Mihaly) Tilted by Christine and the Queens

Tilted is a song about a rejection of the concept of perfection and to embrace being 'good enough'. We know perfection is something we've seen them struggle with, even leading to an infatuation with Night Swan at one point so it'd be interesting to see them let go of the constant struggle and free themself of an unachievable goal.

Perhaps we see a flashback to the first time they met Master Panda or got in tune with the flow. This memory inspiring their change back.

Also, Christine and the Queens is a trans, gender non-conforming artist, which I think would be really imactful for the first canonically Nonbinary character in the franchise to dance to.

Song 5- (Brezziana) Fighter by Christina Aguilara

In JD2024, Brezziana has two (2) songs about overcoming heartbreak and becoming stronger because of it. This might be a glimpse into a potential backstory for her where she had her heartbroken and had to rebuild it from scratch.

Perhaps it's this memory that inspires her to keep fighting and be the light and strength for others she can be.

Song 6- (Wanderlust) King by Years and Years

I think this song could serve as a double meaning, both Wanderlust wanting to regain control of his body in the present to stop Night Swan but also wanting control of his own destiny in being the chosen one which by the end of the dance he is ready to fight for both.

I left Wanderlust till last because in the past, he has been the one to rally the team, so I wanted an opportunity for the team to come to his aid. I just think it'd be a narratively satisfying moment.

Song 7- (Final Battle) Seven Nation Army by The White Stripes

The song has these big guitar riffs that would be good for some epic duet moments, then having the bass and drum beats as tension building and story moments

What I'm going back and forth on is how to appropriately end the story mode so I have decided to leave it up to a poll.

A) The Just Dancers are fully victorious. Night Swan is defeated thus ending the story as a trilogy

B) Night Swan is defeated. However, her defeat is overshadowed by a new, more powerful main bad guy, thus continuing the story

C) Night Swan is helped by an ally to escape again before she can be overpowered. Maybe she gets an important maguffin along the way.

D) Night Swan is about to win but The Just Dancers retreat and escape, maybe unintentionally into the clutches of a more powerful enemy.

“A Thousand Years” is about an eternal love. It was written by Christina Perri, specifically for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 soundtrack. Christina Perri explained her inspiration for writing the song in a 2012 interview. She said “The producers came to me in 2011 and said, ‘can you write a song for Breaking Dawn – Part 1?’ So I went and saw the film six months before it came out, and wrote ‘A Thousand Years’ for Edward and Bella. I recently went to 'The Rossettis' exhibition at the Tate Britain, which I would really reccommend going to if you're able (I think it'll be coming to the US at some point to)... though I will say, despite featuring work by Christina Rossetti and Elizabeth Rossetti (née Siddal), it is Dante Gabriel Rossetti who looms the largest.

His dominant presence reminded me of a little meta I wrote a while ago: GRRM, Sansa Stark & The Pre-Raphaelites. In the past, I'd focused more on John William Waterhouse, who, while not an founding member of the PRB, shared many similarities with them. But I think maybe it's worth revisiting the PRB, and more specifically the 'hair-mad' Dante Gabriel.

We might think GRRM is pretty into red heads, often taking the time to describe the fiery lustre of auburn hair, but it is Rossetti who is the true and original red head fanatic. Just take writer Elizabeth Gaskell's word on, from a letter written in October 1859, where she reported her experiences with DGR at two evening parties:

"I think we got to know Rossetti pretty well […] I had a good deal of talk with him, always excepting the times when ladies with beautiful hair came in […] It did not signify what we were talking about or how agreeable I was; if a particular kind of reddish brown, crepe wavy hair came in, he was away in a moment struggling for an introduction to the owner of said head of hair. He is not as mad as a March hare, but hair-mad."

Elizabeth Siddal, an artist in her own right, as well as perhaps the PRB's most famous model and muse, notably possessed this "particular kind of reddish, brown" hair...

I need to dedicate a bit more time to this train of thought, though I have touched on GRRM's love of red heads before. It just seems so clear to me that Sansa Stark, with her beautiful hair, is in many ways an idealised beauty at first glance (a flat first impression some in the fandom haven't moved on from), but the more we read, the more the story grows, the more layered she becomes. Similarly, though at first glance Rossetti's painting may appear like idealised visions of beauty, on closer inspection they reveal something deeper:

"During their mid-20s, Gabriel and Elizabeth worked together in his studio and had a great influence on each other’s work. Their richly patterned drawings and watercolours conjure complex, imaginative worlds. Using themselves as models, they created medieval fantasies of love and temptation, loyalty and betrayal. I find Sansa a very enjoyable and gratifying character to read and follow, because hers is a character and narrative that unfolds slowly and that is full of observation. It pays to look just as closely at her gestures/behaviour, like a Rossetti painting, as you would her speech. And it pays to remember that GRRM is an admirer of the PRB...

8.) what’s a podcast where you mix up the characters voices? I've honestly never really had that problem! Every podcast I've listened to has done a really damn good job of keeping their character voices distinct. Now, I might occasionally mix up the actors' voices (we won't discuss how long I thought Cam Collins was the voice of Glory Ann Boggs), but never the characters.

13.) what do you like to do while listening to a podcast? "Like" is a strong word, but I usually listen to them while I'm working. If I'm listening off the clock, I crochet or cross-stitch while I listen. Just something with my hands that I don't have to think too hard about so I can focus on [REDACTED].

16.) what songs do you associate with a certain character/ podcast? Oh, boy, this is a List™. In no particular order:

"Bones in the Ocean" by The Longest Johns is inextricably bound up with Zolf Smith in my mind. (I know I used it for a TMA fic too but it's a Zolf song.)

"All the Wasted Time" from Parade is the ultimate JonMartin song and you cannot convince me otherwise.

Similarly, "You and I (The Story of Chess)" from the musical Chess inevitably makes me think of TMA. You and I We've seen it all Chasing our hearts' desires Yet we go on pretending Stories like ours have happy endings...

Maybe it's cheating to say "Lower Lights/Throw Out the Lifeline" is now forever associated with Martin Blackwood, since I did that to myself, but I did it and now it's true.

Apart from all the music that's been the weather, which doesn't count, "Weekend in New England" by Barry Manilow always makes me think of Welcome to Night Vale, and in particular Carlos and Cecil during that period where Carlos was trapped in the desert otherworld.

"Walk Through the Fire" from the musical episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer will never not make me think of Hamid and the fight against Guivres ever again.

"Sixteen Tons" (originally by Tennessee Ernie Ford but I like Geoff Castellucci's version) has been associated with Old Gods of Appalachia in my mind since the first time I heard it and that isn't changing any time soon.

Less podcast and more fanfic, but the first time I listened to "A Thousand Years" by Christina Perri this whole animatic unfolded in my head of JonMarTim's relationship arc in leaves too high to touch (roots too strong to fall) and now it plays across my mind every time I listen, which means I can't listen to it too often or I start seriously lamenting my lack of artistic skills.

Thanks everyone for reading Then, Now, and Always. My biggest creative project of the past year and as of now, my best work. This fandom has given me so much, from badly needed dopamine during my first year of grad school to a lovely excuse to go to London for my first ever con! I've discovered so much new music and so many new artists, developed crushes on a ton of great actors, and expanded my creative world so much. I can't believe the fic is finished. I'll sure miss it, but I'm excited to do other awesome things.

If anyone is interested, here is a link to an app/website called Lingvano. It comes highly recommended by deaf folks as a way for (hearing) people to learn ASL from deaf people. If I could write this fic again, I'd put actual deaf characters in it and maybe give Tally a deaf teacher. From research, I've learned it's better to study ASL from deaf folks, as they speak it as it's meant to be spoken and it's also their language in general. Unfortunately, Lingvano costs $9.99 per month after the free trial. Worth it in my opinion, as it's a very well-done site.

Laid Low - The Naked and Famous : This song has made Top 5 in my Spotify end of year playlist since 2016. It's a banger, it has anime AMV energy, I love it, and I think it's goes well with the Arc II finale, Chapter 25: Battle of the Goddesses.

If I'd Known I Loved Her - Delta Rae : I love this song so much. I first heard it in September 2022, back when TNAA was a mere twinkle in my eye, and I was like "Holy shit, this is Alder's half of the love story." Goes with Chapter 26: If I'd Known.

History Has Its Eyes on You: Christopher Jackson, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Original Broadway Cast of Hamilton : The main difficulty of writing the third act was Tally's character arc. At first, it was her overcoming her squeamishness and fear of getting hands dirty by killing Hearst in the finale. This felt supremely unsatisfying to me, and I realized this was because it was Tally's Arc II character journey, which was tied off in Chapter 25: Battle of the Goddesses. Readers might have missed it because it was an Alder POV chapter, but Chapter 25 is Tally's Arc II character climax. She takes control of Alder's mind during their duel, showing she's willing to fight dirty, punch below the belt, and do whatever it takes to survive, and she betrays Nicte to save the Spree, showing she can put her personal feelings aside to protect her people. Everything I'd planned for Arc III Tally, I actually gave to Arc II Tally. So I had to think of something else.

This song got me to where I needed to be to write Arc III Tally. At this point, it's not really about her personal internals, but about her journey as a leader and what she's going to do to change the world and lead witches into a future of peace. Yeah I know. It got really plotty and philosophical. But everything worked out! And I think it's way better than my original plan.

Stand by You - Rachel Platten

I like either or both of these for Chapters 28 and 29, Alder's Folly and The Seed of Revelation, Tally's POV which then slides into Alder's POV. They're ballads, bangers, and they work on numerous levels, which is cool.

All I Ask of You - Josh Groban, Kelly Clarkson : The song that led to me becoming a Kelly Clarkson stan. Her new album, Chemistry, is amazing. Listen to this song with Chapter 32: Past, Present, Future, when Tally is soothing Alder's fears and musing about their future.

Tally Two / What's the Plan / F-14 - Harold Faltermeyer : The main reason this fic is so aircraft-heavy is because I started writing it in October 2022, when Top Gun: Maverick came out on streaming. Listen to this song during Chapter 33: Into Darkness.

Zen Ball Master - John Powell, Hans Zimmer : It's not perfect, but I think the first half of the song suits the firefight scene in Chapter 35: Tally's Gift, when Tally, Sarah, and the Biddies are fighting their way out of the death factory.

I Am Moana (Song of the Ancestors) : I listened to this on repeat when I wrote Chapter 39: Nafssia. I knew what the chapter would be, I knew what Tally would do, and I knew I had to bring the fucking house down, which is why it took going to England, experiencing Witchbomb, and getting smiled at by Lyne Renee to pull it off.

One Less Witch in the World - Brandon Roberts : I'm sure I'm not the only one who thinks this, but the Motherland soundtrack is disproportionately amazing. Like...why didn't they spend that money on better writers? Or idk, a few more episodes in each season? Doesn't matter. This song is awesome, but I think it works well with Chapter 44: One Less Witch in the World, during the third section where they're diverting the Accords.

Three end credits songs. I like imagining Sarah and Tally enjoying a wonderful Beltane together with Dance with Everybody and/or Who Do You Love as the backing track. In my mind, if it's Who Do You Love, Tally runs over to the drums for heavy drums section during the bridge and uses her touch-empathy to play alongside the rest of the drummers. She doesn't have a voice, so I like imagining her learning to play instruments so she and Sarah can still make music together. Better Place works well as a fade-to-black song during the domestic bliss at the end of the fic.

My Review: 4/5 Stars

Alex has had a crush on his best friend, Bailey's, older brother, Remy for a long time. And two years ago, they shared their first kiss right before everything changed for Bailey and Remy's family. Now, Alex and Bailey are attending Franklin U and Remy is back in his life. And those feelings he thought he buried have resurfaced. Turns out, he never really stopped crushing on Remy and he learns quickly that Remy feels the same. But there is a slight problem: Bailey. Bailey is angry for Remy revealing something that led to their parents' divorce and instead of being angry at their dad, he's chosen to blame Remy. Alex is on both of their sides, but knows that Remy did nothing wrong and struggles to get Bailey to see that. So when Alex and Remy start hooking up, he's worried about Bailey's reaction. Remy wouldn't care about telling Bailey, but knows that for Alex it is more complicated. And besides, this thing between him and Alex won't be forever, right? It's not like he believes in relationships... or does he? Well, I'm sure you can all imagine how this story will go! Chaos will eventually find them and everyone will have to face their demons at some point. I really liked this one! Remy and Alex were adorable and it was sweet that both thought they could keep their feelings in check. Both of them have been through a lot and they finally found a way to push for what they wanted for once. Another great one in the series and I'm off to read the final one!

It's really difficult to just pick just one because up until now I haven't listened to this song since last year or the last time someone asked me a similar question. And it's still my "favourite" song ever.

It helped me through my lonely years, my suicidal years, my self destructive years or those years where I could have said yes/fuck it to hook ups and drugs, etc.

Instead of acting on those things that were not indicative of my soul, I instead listened to this song (among others) and jogged at 3am-5am. Still something stupid to do but I think I chose the best option I felt I had at the time.

It's a song that helped through those quiet and sad days.

It's funny because I met with a banker today to discuss plans and get advice for mortgaging a house. The bank is willing to loan me $300k+ for a house and I asked if they could loan me to or on another state and they stated that yes they could. And I immediately wanted to take the loan for a house in WA. I've already been looking around the Olympic and South Puget Region. BUT, I calmed my hazy emotions down and took a deep breath. I need to do more research, find and secure a job where I plan to purchase a house, mortgage a house, and even check or do house openings meetups, flood zone check ups, agent or have someone to check on the house I want to see if the house is in order, etc. SIGH. I need to be responsible about this. But yeah, that was my thought when I got - well I'm sort of being disingenuous because this was actually my first thought:

I want to be in a home that's safe and warm with my "soulmate"/future partner, cooking food or grabbing from the takeout Chinese or pizza we ordered, it's Friday night, we have the weekend free so we're enjoying this night with comfort food as we enjoy our company and watch TV together. We cuddle and snuggle. We feel safe and lucky to have each other in our life. Maybe we have a kiddo or a few kiddos. Maybe a couple of pets as well. None of that bothers us. We're just happy to be together. We love each other and each day we love each other. We're dorky, weird, silly, and goofy, but we love each other. And that's enough.

Kind of a pathetic "where I want to be right now" response but yeah.

Not you misunderstanding the social bullshit at play here. Beyoncé has a nasty habit of using an insidious PR machine to backhandedly smudge her way onto other black women’s arts and aesthetics, while she acts like a dumb, goody two shoes, knowing that black people are always the happiest to laugh at one another when they see each other hurt by this type of discarding and lack of genuine appreciation and acknowledgment when we all contribute to a collective culture that not a single one of us has any right to position ourselves as some pseudo sort of statehood of. Especially when you are adamantly fixed on shoving extremely denatured, piss poor, derivative versions of the hard work studied and expertly crafted work and excellence that is already solidified within the space. That is a joke. With that said, if you’re cultural value has sank that low that you’re only options are to play crabs in a barrels with your black female peers, sabotaging the, behind the scenes, stealing their singles and aesthetics at face value rather than collaborating with them and sharing wisdoms to actually enrich, explore, innovate, excel, and progress as an individual artist and collective genre with dignity, truth, humility, honor, and a general love for music and not some vapid, archaic obviously light skinned jealous obsession with fame… You wouldn’t feel the desperate need to defend Taylor Swift’s feelings when she is crying because Kanye told the truth. You are too happy to acknowledge and console the feelings of white peers and too thirsty to invoke anger in your black female colleagues to make yourself feel superior in a space too many more superior women have already left their mark.

Beyoncé is and has been for decades fighting very hard for pop cultural power with the understanding that being the top “black female artist”, in addition to being lighter skinned would be enough to satiate an industry full of white men who largely still considered her an urban act ala Ashanti, Brandy, Monica, Aaliyah, Amerie, Faith Evans, Mary J. Blige, SWV, Xscape, etc…. And focused on acts with world wide appeal like Britney, Madonna, and Christina, Pink, Adele — she got a bit more confused when Shakira and JLO hit the scene — in A LOT of ways she found herself stuck, not knowing how to navigate her coveted.light skinned but almost white passing blackness in a new, soft-ethnic market….in comes - BDAY.

In my honest opinion, France and its plethora of classical fine art institutions, organic record keeping, cultural pride and social respect for art is always the safe haven for the black female artist fighting to leave behind a solid, respectable, posthumous legacy of fine art that will be honored , revered, cherished, preserved, referenced in the most dignified ways. I’d reckon “212” will have a 400m year posthumous shelf life. Beyoncé has yet to create a song or project that anyone will want to hear more than maybe 70 years after she is gone. Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas” will outlive us all. Beyoncé needs to get serious about her legacy.
