New Marshall Pics - Season 11, Ep. 03

A new episode aired in Canada today, and... oh, it's the new animation style! It's here at last! I'm quite happy to share some new pics of Marshall with his updated visuals! :)

The first segment - "Pups Plus a Plucky Chicken".

Of all the ways to start the series with its updated visuals, they went with... a Chickaletta dream episode. That... wouldn't have been my first choice. Or my second. Or my third. Sadly, it's another where the pups are barely present during the before-the-mission parts, and some of them didn't even talk. I never like it when that happens. On the bright side (for me), Marshall was called in as backup to help at one point, so I was certainly glad to see that. He... certainly made plenty of puns though, but then again, the other characters throughout the episode did, too. It was all... quite punny.

And the second segment - "Pups Save a Pet Show".

This one was pretty meh, too. Not a great start for the show with its new visuals. Sadly, I've not much to say about this one. Being my second-favorite, I'm glad Chase was called in so I could see him in action, too. Both segments called in Rubble, which I hope doesn't become the norm (dude already has his spinoff, we don't need to see him a lot here, too). Skye was called in as backup. If you're a fan of Rocky and/or Zuma... you'll have to wait a bit longer to see them in action (sadly, neither talked much, either).

That's all for now. Again, not a great start by any means, but I didn't think either one was terrible or anything. The new animation style looks nice, but while getting some screenshots, I thought some scenes certainly looked a little... rough. It'll no doubt improve in time, but for now, I think it looks fine. If you're skeptical of the new visuals, I can't say if what we seen today will win you over, but maybe later on.

I... hope the next episode turns out better than this. 😅

Thoughts on Beastars Final Season Part 1

It has been a long time since I finished the Beastars manga, so going into the final anime season, I was kind of out of the loop about what really happens in these chapters. Sure, I remember the broad strokes, but not the details.

I'm not sure when I noticed just how off the anime felt, but I think it might have been with the Civet and Kopi Luwak stuff.

The anime is almost nothing like the manga. That is not a bad thing, by any means. They're just incredibly different stories and I feel like I am insane because I have not seen a single person talk about this.

The anime is great (so far - I am on EP 11) and I don't think I could've asked for a better animated season. I think that the team has really come together to create something visually beautiful this season.

Story wise? It's incredibly solid! Each of the leads have had equal and fair screentime, and I love the increased importance of Melon in the narrative. However - and this was honestly the first thing that bothered me but I tried to ignore it - the Kines drug plot is such a choice. I like it, in theory. It works really well for the story the anime is trying to tell but I felt like I was losing my mind watching this season. I did not remember the gang wars being about drugs, or even seeing Melon this early in the story.

I thought that 'oh my mind must be awful' because I did not remember Kines at all. Then I look it up, and found nothing at all about it in the manga. I even checked my volumes. Nothing. I really do wonder why they made this choice - or what say Itagaki had in this decision. Again, it's not a bad one, I was just deeply confused as a manga reader.

I think the shortening of the second act of Beastars to one season instead of two was the wrong choice fundamentally because I will always want more Beastars. I think it does the original story a disservice to shorten it like this HOWEVER. I believe that the anime team has come up with a really creative way to fix the manga's pacing problems and to shorten these chapters into one season and I must applaud them.

I will forever mourn that we didn't get to see the rest of Beast Apartments or Gosha and Yahya's reunion but I think the new scenes we got have been great.

RIP Gosha's granddad classes through.....

Cherry Magic Anime Ep 11 Stray Thoughts

Last week, Adachi and Kurosawa weren’t around much since Adachi needed to figure out his own bullshit, but at least he had Tsuge to call him on it. We spent most of our time with Minato and Tsuge. Minato was up against a wall in his idol dream and finally managed to achieve it with everyone’s support. When Minato asked Tsuge why he was helping him, he gave a ridiculously weird response and is now spinning out. We left on Tsuge thinking Minato is beyond him, and Adachi taking the ten-day position in Nagasaki. I am flabbergasted that we had all this separation anxiety over ten days.

My dude, I don’t think you need to apologize to Adachi at all. I think it’s important that you make sure Adachi knows you didn’t like the way you were left out of that decision.

It’s kinda funny how minor the Nagasaki trip is in this version. In the live action movie it was this whole thing and Adachi got sick. In the Thai version they made a whole episode arc out of it. Here it’s just a couple of quick realizations about how important they are to each other, a letter, and then they consummate their attraction in the hotel. I like this version of Minato a lot. I like him telling Tsuge directly not to decide everything on his own.

Eden of the East ep. 6, 9-11

Truly no words. I was stunned with this ending, and not in a good way. Maybe there was a reason that I had never heard of this anime before this class. There were several plot holes like the 20,000 NEET’s being able to find their own phones, which also happen to be fully charged in time for Takizawa’s crowd-sourcing solution to the 60 incoming missiles. Also, I was not satisfied with the show’s ending of Takizawa naming himself “King of Japan.” l was astonished that 11 episodes concluded in this. Anyway, I wanted to just talk about some of the references that I noticed.

The supposed bombing of the 20,000 NEETs was reminiscent of God flooding the entire world due to the wickedness of the people in it. This made me think that initially, people saw that the NEETs were seen as wicked and corrupt, implying that NEETs are wicked and corrupt for being unproductive members of society. That is, until it was revealed that Takizawa intended for the bombing as a way for NEETs to be seen as integral members of society; however, it backfired, as society started blaming the NEETs for the attack, forcing Takizawa to send the 20,000 NEETs to Dubai. 

The choice of Dubai seemed unusual to me at first, until I remembered that Dubai has a pretty substantial amount of migrant workers, which can be alluded to by the promise of higher salaries and the lack of an income tax in the United Arab Emirates. Furthermore, we see that the NEETs are tanned, indicating that these people worked outside in the sweltering heat of the Middle East. Sending the NEETs to Dubai could be seen as a two-sided coin. One side could be seen as a blessing, with the promise of a good salary that will not be taxed, compared to the relatively high tax rates in Japan. The other could be perceived as a punishment. Since the NEETs were unproductive in society, they will be productive in a foreign country without any family, all while enduring the sweltering heat of the UAE.

Undead Unluck ep.11 thoughts

OH JESUS, WHAT WERE THOSE THINGS? ANDY AND FUUKO WERE SURROUNDED, BUT ONLY FUUKO SEEMED TO CARE?? HOW CAN DAVID PRO JUST INTRODUCE A NEW FACET TO THE STORY AND NOT DWELL ON IT???

But seriously, it was kind of refreshing to see actual people in Undead Unluck for once, even if they found excuses to isolate our cast again as quickly as possible. By the looks of it, they actually added more people to the scene in the clothing store

Would've been really funny for Fuuko to be freaking out about being surrounded when there isn't a soul to be seen, though

All of the scenes between Andy and Fuuko were pretty faithful to the manga, and I think they all more than did them justice. Their relationship is just as cute and endearing as always if not more so being able to see them move and hear the emotion in their voices. Fuuko's Unluck in this episode was also executed perfectly, the comedic timing was absolutely excellent

The best part of the episode had to be the introduction of Rip and Latla, though. I'm a little sad that we didn't get to see Rip's attack like we did with Andy's in episode 3, instead just seeing a flash and the aftermath, but it gets a pass because not only is Rip a villain and has the excuse of being more mysterious inherently, but also because his little flourish with the scalpel was really fun

That color change after Rip attacked was an interesting choice, too. I've likely mentioned this, but I always wanted the UU anime to use colored blood, at least during high-tension scenes, on the basis that that's the iconic aesthetic of the volume covers and logo. I wanted Chainsaw Man to do the same thing, but apparently Yuki Yase and Ryu Nakayama aren't as visionary as I am. Especially weird since David Pro also does Jojo, so they're no strangers to that style

The colors changing for the blood in this moment as opposed to any other though implies that it's meant to convey the activation of Unrepair, giving us a greater visual cue that something is happening than just the guards declaring that they can't move and then not moving. I don't know if that's going to be a consistent thing for Rip, but I would like it if any given Unrepairable wound is accompanied by a consistent visual indicator, at least in the moment that they're dealt

The visual direction of this episode was also just really pretty. The sunset on the beach, the neon lighting as Andy and Fuuko sat down to eat, and most notably, the newly formed stars in the night sky reflecting beautifully on the ocean and creating the illusion that the ship was floating through space. It was such a great visual for such an innocuous moment, I really hope they keep it for the upcoming action scenes. If they do, then the upcoming fight may actually end up being the crowd-puller I was hoping the Victor fight would be

Don't want to get my hopes up too high, but I can at least be confident that it's going to be super cool

Local Monkey Bad At Being A Mentor And Talking Feelings: Makes Silly Anime Art Game To Teach Instead. what a goof. also looking extraordinarily fluffy in the ep here. im crying at him finding Wukong's game & trying to make his own with a poor audio microphone. so that's what he'd been up to off screen, why did you think you'd ever need one of these? oh yeah, you're bad at feelings & explaining things.

Mackie being prepared for something being up with MK means he might have heard a whisper of something from the future or he and Wukong had a talk at some point. I'm mostly betting on the former. tbh. I don't think he knew the full extent, but he knew something was going to happen so he had to Be Prepared.

1) Who was your first starter?

Turtwig!! I was pretty late to the game for Pokemon, but I adore him!! Sadly, I really don't use the line very much bc they're weak/allergic to everything

11) List your top 6 favorite Pokemon

1. Espeon!! I had one in my og Diamond file that just blasted through everything and that's what put it on my radar. I also love its simple and elegant design and I'd love to have one follow me around. I also really like the emphasis on bond and trust in all its dex entries

2. Raichu - it's just so big and looks so nice and soft and pudgy to hold and hug. And also absolutely strong enough to decimate my enemies. It also seems like the least loved member of the Pika-line, (most of its anime appearances are basically Raichu slander lol) but Alolan Raichu is nothing but soft pancake-loving perfection

3. Lucario - bit of a basic choice but i will always love this reliable ace. It was also one of my friend's favorite pokemon who helped get me into Pokemon, so there's the nostalgia points there. And no one can deny that Lucario's movie was, and still is, an absolute banger

4. Ponyta - again with the nostalgia play, but Ponyta was the first pokemon i learned. (I guess separate fun fact is that my first pokemon I learned wasn't Pikachu). I also grew up riding horses and still do, and the little childhood desire of being able to ride and own a literal fire horse has not subsided. It's also got a real cute face

5. Hisuian Arcanine - Kantoian Arcanine has always hovered near the top of my favorites list, but when the Hisuian form came out? Instant top. I love it's design and also it's callback to historic asian guard dogs. Also who could resist a giant fluffy dog to help hunt down your enemies and then lower your heating bill in the winter?

6. Meowscarada - after a lot of internal debate, I've gotta give the last spot to my Scarlet ace. Initially, I actually hated how the final form of our grass cat looked, but it's definitely grown on me (though the puffy sleeves and weird hand-paws are still problem but we're fixing that in fanart wut). And working to develop my ScarVio muse’s Meowscarada’s personality and arc for my slew of fics that hopefully will make it out of google docs one day lol has also endeared it to me. Also Scarvio has been the first mainline Pokemon game to really grab me since XY, so Meowscarada gets points for that too

Honorable mentions (bc that last choice was hard) - Eevee, Buizel, Absol, Torterra and Latios

I love that this question says theme, because I've always wondered how Gym Leaders and E4 end up specializing in types. Besides for Misty, I don't remember anyone in canon who wasn't already a gym leader deciding to specialize in only one type (yeah I know Misty becomes a gym leader, but when she battled Ash in like. ep maybe 7, she barely was). Because they must've had mixed teams when they were up and coming trainers, winning leagues and challenging Champions and such. I much prefer some of the mixed teams of the ScarVio teachers in the Academy Ace tournament and then Battle Frontier brains in the anime that have a unifying theme instead. Like an international gym with all final forms of starters would be cool

As for me, it's so basic, but I'd love an Eeveelution gym with Eevee as the ace, maybe with Gmax, even though I haven't finished Shield yet. But if I had to pick a type, I think I'd go Fire-type with Hisuian Arcanine as my ace, along with Ponyta/Rapidash, Hisuian Typhlosian, Delphox, Houndoom, and maybe Salazzle

Watched part of it at work and the rest at home. A lot of clippable Rattrap moments. Also the ship's name is Sentinel??? Wow first time hearing that name on a character that's not a major prick.

I know it's for comedic effect but wow they all think Rattrap is kind of insufferable and that's really funny.

Also a bit more character dialogue from Black Arachina was nice.

Ep 12

A Doop episode is always good. At this point they're getting better with animating the models and a change in more series cinematography. They come really close to making a scene serious without making me laugh at the end.

Good example for instance, Optimus falling from the ship leaving Cheetor's grasp. The fall is silent and slow. They composed the shot very well and since the lighting is already muddy it works it it's advantage.

Until Optimus finally falls on the ground with a small thud leaving no impact on the ground. It was honestly so close.

Doop gets really strong in this. Optimus is so far the only character who is very understanding of Dino Bot and the show doesn't have him explicitly tell the others how he's feeling. I think the animators really tried with his expressions in this one and it's cool to see. The more the show goes on, I can see why he's the favorite in the show (also the only character with a much more in depth arc at the moment)

Really thought that we'd see a drastic change of the Maximals splitting up but guess not. Oh well. I just can't believe they landed on the same rock and not possibly a different area or something.

I did get a sudden scare with Dino Bot running towards the ship with Predicons behind him I thought there'd be some miscommunication there but I'm not ready for that kind of plot right now.

I also think it was really cute Cheetor also thinks of Dino Bot as a close friend. :D

Yayyy Rhinox episode! As well as some interesting cinematography choices...it's probably not very different compared to the rest of the show, but I swear it did feel different.

So like if you think about it this show can get kinda graphic but since they're robots they can take a few hits. Even an arm can get ripped off and put back eventually.

Okay but like. When Rhinox as a Predicon squishes Scorpinox. Like he REAALLLLY squishes him. Like if this character could get a couple thousand more polygons it be freaky cause they show his head absolutely crushed under the weight of whatever Rhinox pushed on him.

Optimus Primal...was a Indiana Jones joke I can't. That's a very tempting thing to reanimate too cause it's funny. So far this is one of the shows you can see Optimus as a character doing stupid shit in combat rather than always looking like the hero 99% of the time. I'm so impressed that this was a character who's personality is experimented with pretty early (as far as I know of) in Transformers history. Before Transformers Animated.

Beast Wars keeps impressing me. I do wanna know more about this history of how this show was made and comparisons to potentially other CG shows at the time (not Pixar.. they were straight up on another level so its not fair). Cause there's things they could fix like walk cycles or those ungodly stretched textures on the landscape. There's so many things you can point out but who knows how difficult it was to fix after rendering or how it was made on a tv schedule. Rip I wonder how many times the program crashed...

Overall, I think this is an okay series. Of course, I might have been a bit misled by the trailer thinking that Sailom's family's debt forced him to sell himself (to prostitution) and Kang is gangster/mafia who comes to save him 😅, which could have perfectly explain the series title. Instead, we got minimal hints of danger all throughout the series. 😅😅 Still, I must thank this series for bringing MarcPawin back 😭😭😭 Now, to get GMMTV to have them cast as main for another BL series...😅😅😅

Yay! I’m so glad you’ve been enjoying Stampede! To answer you, I think it depends on your mood. I consider each version of Trigun to be sort of separate but connected entities. They all feed into each other and have similar themes, but vary in tone and plot points(especially Stampede for plot, though the end of 98 is very different from the manga too).

98 Trigun is shorter and startes off lighter. The manga was still being released at the time they were making it, so at some point in the series they go in an original direction that ties up the anime as it’s own story. The first 12-ish episodes are very goofy and episodic and really take their time to develop Vash as a character and his backstory as a mystery. These episodes are somewhat recreations of the manga. The later episodes switch to being as heavy as any of the other versions of Trigun. If you’re sad from Stampede, this would be a fun breather( for a bit)and it has that 90’s anime charm. This is what I did because I knew Maximum would take a while to read.

The downside to watching 98 first is it will spoil you for late manga events even if they’re in a different context. I don’t think this is a huge downside as the events hold emotional weight even if they’re spoiled, but it’s something to consider. If you’re really liking Stampede, it’s definitely heavily pulling from Trigun Maximum and the tone is much similar to the manga than Trigun 98. Maximum doesn’t shy away from dark subjects and body horror/gore similar like stampede. Maximum is the most fleshed out of the three because it has the time to be detailed. The art style is absolutely gorgeous; I have so many panels saved. I am biased, I much prefer Maximum to 98, but that is mostly personal taste. Both are amazing. One downside to the manga is that it can be hard to follow at times, especially fight scenes. I often had to reread sections to make sure I understood what was happening.

The choice is really, do you want to take the time to read closely Maximum and get full context before watching 98. Or, do you want to have fun with the 98 version and then dive into the manga? Which one do you not want to be spoiled for more?

Anyway, you’re the second person I’ve gotten to watch Trigun and I feel so powerful. I’m spreading my brainrot to others >:)

Banana Fish (ep. 2, 9, 11, 24)

HUH?! I thought this was a BL anime but apparently it isn't? Everyone on every social media platform said this was BL but it seems that it just has implications of these boys liking each other romantically, but not actually. I feel like a lot of animes do this - a guy admires another guy, seemingly romantically but not. I think this is due to the more conservative side of Japan, but I do not want to generalize. I guess a lot of people kind of forced this idea about these characters, or it just seems like the way they talk about each other seems like a love story.

One thing I do not like about this anime is the amount of perversion. It is good that the perverts were portrayed in a disgusting light, and I think that it raises awareness towards how people pervert and eroticize homosexuality and how wrong it is. However, there was also a lot of sexualization of the characters by the artists/animators when it was not necessary. For example, they way they were dressed, the skin exposed at times, their positions, etc. I think that while the anime was trying to convey how immoral perversion is, the characters were still sexualized. This is another thing that I often see in anime: the creators trying to take a stance against something but then indirectly doing what they were against. Actually, I should not just direct this to anime because a lot of different kinds of media does this. I wrote about this in my essay for Zom 100, because the animators, I believe, took a stance against sexualization of women; however, the camera angles and clothing choices made by the animators/artists/creators say otherwise. I think that there needs to be more care and consideration put into delivering messages and the way that they are done so.

Also, I am pretty confused as to what Ash's and Eiji's relationship was though. Like how did they meet and why did they hit it off? I think that the first episode probably established that but I do not want to have to look it up. Anyway, it was interesting how Ash saved Eiji and not his best friend - like how valuable is Eiji to Ash? I also do not really understand the relationship between Ash and that old man that owned him but then saved him in the end? Perhaps I got the characters confused? If someone reblogs this, please explain!

Anyway, I knew that Banana Fish was sad, because people often talk about how they cry because of this anime, but wow, that was quite a depressing ending. I had already cried from watching Grey's and One Tree Hill today, so this was just the cherry on top. The intro to the last episode almost foreshadowed what was going to happen. It seemed like a lot of memories that Ash had flashes across the screen, specifically his relationships, just like how your memories replay in your mind when you die, so I could tell just from the intro that Ash would pass away. In episode 9 or 11 (I cannot remember which), someone also called Eiji Ash's achilles heel, conveying how Ash (or someone) would die. I cannot believe Eiji does not even know about his death, expecting to see him again. As sad as it is that Eiji and Ash could not be together, I am glad that Ash died in that library (I mean, it is traumatizing for whoever finds his dead body), because that was where he was away from all the violence and the killing (the aspect of himself that he disliked). He got to be the person he wanted to be when he died - peaceful and loved.

In the end, I like the message about how people can be so different, yet when you really think about it, we are all the same. No matter what race, gender, career, etc., although we may have different experiences of cultures, we are all human beings that want to be loved, to love, and to be happy.
