Lana del Rey (ft. Jack Antonoff) ֍ Hey Blue Baby (Live at The Ally Coalition Talent Show) (2018)
Hey blue baby Put that Hank Williams on It's your little blue baby Callin' for her favorite song Get out that whiskey Pour it right quickly Put them hallway lights on I hope one day you can remember Our love before it all went wrong
But the only stars we saw were in the sky Not the boulevard And the only thing we wanted was to be free And the only girl you had eyes for played downtown At the local bar That was me She was me
Do what you have to do Just know your baby's back here waiting Just know she thinks you're really cool

Psychonauts Secret Santa 2023
@wonderlaneyart I'm your secret Santa this year! Sorry if it's a little short.
“This is going to be horrendous.”
Gloria sat behind a large black curtain, the only thing protecting her from what would surely be the worst flop of her entire acting career.
Nearby, Fred hovered nervously, wanting to help but unable to find the right words.
“...No?”
Out of the corner of his eye, Fred saw Napoleon looking at him with disdain.
“Non? You did this for a living and you say non?”
“Shut up,” Fred muttered under his breath. Turning back to Gloria, he tried again. “Look- e-even if it doesn't go to plan, it- it's going to be alright. There's no critics out there, nobody's going to- to do whatever mean people who don't like plays do. I don't know.”
Sitting down next to Gloria and adjusting his cape, he continued. “But, if you really don't want to do this, you don't have to. We can just show off Edgar’s props,” he said, gesturing to the backdrop and props of cardboard and black velvet Edgar had prepared.
“No-no, I can do this. I want to do this,” Gloria said, standing up.
“Gotcha. Well, I'll go raise the curtain then,” Fred said, running off to do just that.
Turning to face the thick curtain, Gloria felt the nerves that Fred had help calm get jumpy again.
I haven't been onstage in ages-
What if I've lost my talent-
Am I forcing everyone into this-
But then the curtain started to rise and she didn't have the time to think of those things.
It was time to act.
“The year is 1815,” Edgar narrated from behind the stage, flicking switches on his light board. “The month is May. The location is Blois, France. The weather is sunny. Our heroine sits in her study.”
The spotlight landed on Gloria.
“Ah, woe is me,” she said, “my husband, Napoleon, has been dethroned- and I know not yet what will happen to me, nor my son.” She gestured to a cardboard cutout of a small boy. “We were sent to this small village to escape the Sixth Coalition, but what are we to do now?”
As the light spread across the rest of the stage, Boyd entered, holding a prop letter. “Uh- madam, this arrived for you. It comes from Paris.”
As Gloria took the letter, she spared a quick glance to stage left, where Fred waited in the darkness.
“My dear Marie Louise,” Gloria read. As Fred’s spotlight flicked on, he began speaking with Gloria, writing the letter as she read it.
“I am writing you this letter to inform you that I have returned from exile. I have, with the support of my army and those fools who claimed to betray me to Louis XVIII, retaken my throne as Emperor, and removed the usurper who dared sit in my home.” Gloria stopped speaking, letting Fred lead. “Various countries- Britain, Russia, Austria, Prussia- have pledged large armies to destroy me, and yet it shall be I who destroy them.” Fred’s French accent was comically over-the-top; he said he did it to annoy his ancestor. “Soon, ai shall march to meet zese armees, ét drive between zem a wedge. Ai mak fair bélgium een déux month's time. Béfaire zén, ai invité you to rejoin me een paris. Yur 'usband and empairair…” Fred’s light shut off-
“Napoleon,” Gloria read. “Oh, what am I to do? It is three days’ travel to Paris, so I have almost sixty days to decide. Ally myself once again with Napoleon, or remain here in Blois?”
She turned to the cardboard cutout boy. “Ah, my son. The Treaty of Fontaine prevents you from inheriting your father’s lands, his titles- You, who were once the heir to the French Empire, the King of Rome- what would you wish? To remain the prince of Parma? Or to reunite with your father, for a chance to reclaim the titles you were bestowed at birth? Be it better to stand upon the cliff, safe, or to leap for the heavens, at risk of falling like did Icarus to far lower than you have ever been?” Gloria was proud of that monologue- she had written that part herself. Most of the script was Fred’s invention.
“What troubles you, milady?” Edgar came in from offstage, as Boyd took over the lights.
“A-ah! Count Niepperg! What brings you here?”
“Checking in on you. And your son,” Edgar said. “No doubt that madman did horrible things to you both back in Paris- but worry not! The Seventh Coalition shall deal with him.”
Gloria’s face and tone turned icy. “The first five Coalitions did not ‘deal with him’. Even the sixth only deterred him for a time. Why should this one be the one to succeed?”
Edgar stepped back. He was quite a good actor- managing to make himself look small, as the shadows made Gloria seem more regal. “Milady, I- if it will assuage your fears-”
“I do not fear Napoleon. I bear no ill will towards him, as I hope he bears none to me. However, while there are no fears to be assuaged, you have indeed helped me- by helping me make up my mind.”
“What do you mean?”
“Napoleon has invited me to return to Paris. And now, I shall. I know not what will happen, with Napoleon or the Seventh Coalition, but I know the path I must walk.”
“Then I shall walk that path with you,” Edgar said. “May we both live to see the path’s end.”
As the curtain fell, the lighting changed to basic, warm light. With a deep exhale, Gloria stopped being Marie Louise and went back to just plain old Gloria. “How was that, everyone?” She asked, as Boyd and Edgar came out from behind the painted backdrop.
“I- I think that went pretty well,” Boyd said. “I mean, I only had one line, but I think I said the line well!”
“It’s your play, Gloria,” Fred said. “Do you think it went well?”
“Yes, I enjoyed it,” Gloria said, “But I don’t think I wanted it to be my play. I wanted to do it with you- so I do hope you all enjoyed it.”
“I liked painting the backdrop,” Edgar said. “I may have preferred to be the mailman, though.”
“I’d be good with being the- the Neeper guy,” Boyd offered.
“Niepperg,” Fred corrected. “Napoleon’s still muttering in my ear about that accent, but he says you made a great Marie Louise.”
“Oh, good,” Gloria said. “In that case, I say we take our bow.”
As the former inmates came out from behind the curtain, they looked out at the crowd- particularly, at row three, seat seven, where a kid in goggles sat, clapping louder than anyone.
As everyone worked together to take down the makeshift stage, Razputin came up to them.
“Hey, so- there’s no second act, so I was wondering what happened. Is this before or after the board game?”
“Before,” Fred said, chuckling. “Count Niepperg and Marie Louise went back to Paris, after which Napoleon left for the battle of Waterloo- which he lost. Ow!” Flinching, Fred turned back to Raz. “Yeah, he wanted me to say the game’s inaccurate. He actually lost because of the French Psychoseparatist Movement.”
“The huh?”
“A bunch of psychics who wanted to secede from the country and make their own little psycho-nation. A few of them attacked during the battle of Waterloo and messed up Napoleon’s back lines with a horde of bunnies.”
“Wait, bunnies?” Raz said.
“Yeah, some guy named Marcel Oleander controlled, like, three thousand bunnies to attack the French forces. Combined with a whole bunch of other stuff, they actually tilted the scales against Napoleon, and he ended up losing the battle.”
Raz looked deep in thought. “Huh.”
“They added some of that stuff in one of the expansions, but I always felt it messed with the game’s balance too much.”

The Wikipedia page on Taishi Ci says that when it was recommended he be given a command to oppose Sun Ce, Liu Yao said, "If I appoint Taishi Ci, Xu Zijiang will laugh at me." Know the source of this and what Xu Zijiang's issue with Taishi Ci would of been/why Liu Yao would care?
It is from Taishi Ci's biography, acting as an explainer why this future Wu figure was not shining in another state (not an unknown explainer that makes an officer and their new employee look better)
Just to note, Zijiang is the style name of Xu Shao the famed talent spotter who made that comment about Cao Cao. There isn't any known reaction of Xu Shao to Taishi Ci. What he might have potentially objected to could be a couple of things 1. Taishi Ci's career so far was being a scholar, holding a minor local position, then forced into exile after he disrupted and his bold break out for Kong Rong to act as an envoy. On what grounds would you give this young man (30 years old) a senior command position? 2. Taishi Ci made the not unreasonable gamble that someone from his home town would show him preferment. Even if he hadn't had dealing with Liu Yao before. Xu Shao might not be so impressed by blatant favouritism of someone from Liu Yao's home area. Nor incidently might be the powerful families of the south, key local allies and those holding administrative posts in the area. In terms of why Liu Yao would care: Liu Yao had only been in the area a few years and his appointment to the province was a mere one year. His control of the province was less than that after he engineered the throwing out of Yuan Shu's representatives Sun Ben and Wu Jing. Liu Yao had constructed a coalition of support against Yuan Shu, but his control of Yang had its limits.
Having Xu Shao's support was a prestigious boon, he was a man who could make and break reputations, a figure known through the land. Such endorsement was valuable to any warlord and a good signal to Yang province (and abroad) that Liu Yao was a worthy figure. Even if Liu Yao thought Xu Shao was the stupidest of stupidest people, he would have to be seen to value such a worthy gentleman. If Xu Shao complained that Liu Yao was appointing young, undeserving people based on coming from his home commandery, not a good look for Liu Yao. Or even if he just mocked the appointment in the army made by the new lord, it would cause damage to Liu Yao's reputation at a time when he needs to keep hold of support. So why not make Taishi Ci have to prove himself and show the southern lords he would pick by merit, not seek to replace them with northern men? Hope that helped

UK convenes global coalition to boost cyber skills and tackle growing threats
Tumblr media
The UK will convene leading nations including the US and EU for talks on how to tackle the growing threat of cyber-attacks, as new figures show nearly half of British businesses do not have the skills needed to protect against cyber-crime.   Taking place at Wilton Park in West Sussex, the discussions come at a critical time following recent high-profile incidents - including the global IT outage, an attack impacting NHS service providers, and attempts to disrupt London’s transport network.  Over the next three days countries including the EU member states, Canada, Japan and international organisations such as the World Economic Forum (WEF) and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) will discuss how global cyber security workforces can be strengthened, from agreeing ways to boost cyber skills to developing new professional standards.   To help this effort, the UK will commission a new report, with attendees set to agree key areas it should focus on. The recommendations are expected to be published by the end of the year and will advance international collaboration to improve cyber skills and face down cyber-crime. Taking more immediate action, the UK government is also launching a new scheme to deliver tailored support across regions of England and Northern Ireland. By tapping into local know how, the move will fund initiatives which will directly address the cyber skills needs of individual areas – whether it’s through apprenticeships or companies developing new forms of cyber security.   It follows the government’s decision to designate data centres as Critical National Infrastructure (CNI) alongside energy and water systems, which will bolster the UK’s security and allow the government to support the sector in the event of critical incidents. Supporting UK cyber skills will also boost the £11.9 billion cyber security industry and help protect growth in the UK economy. Cyber Security Minister Feryal Clark said: The UK needs a significant improvement in its cyber defences after the previous government failed to strengthen our cyber laws – we’re fixing that.  Later this year, we’ll bring forward new measures to better protect the nation from cyber-crime and our new regional skills programme will support the next generation of cyber talent and innovators.  But this is a shared challenge, which is why we’re bringing together global allies to discuss and agree steps to keep us safe online, improve cyber skills and protect our economy and public services. A total of £1.3 million is being made available for organisations such as universities, local councils and businesses to provide cyber skills training, and fund organisations developing new innovations in cyber defence across Northern Ireland and England. Delivered by Innovate UK, applications for the scheme open today and will see grants of up to £150,000 awarded to winning applicants by March 2025. Alongside this, the UK government has also launched a competition to find the best young cyber talent to represent the UK on the international stage.  The event demonstrates the UK’s leadership in bringing likeminded countries together to discuss one of the biggest threats facing nations around the world today. It’s hoped it will firmly place cyber on the global agenda and become a regular fixture - with other nations expected to host going forward.  To mark the opening, the UK has published the latest figures from its Cyber Security Skills in the UK Labour Market Survey. The findings show that while the estimated annual shortfall for jobs in the UK’s cyber workforce has reduced - down from 11,200 last year to just 3,500 this year - 44% of UK businesses do not have the fundamental skills to protect themselves from cyber-attacks.   The figures highlight the need for further targeted action to ensure the UK’s cyber security workforce can continue to develop a rich pipeline of diverse talent to help keep the nation safe online in the years to come – which the new regional skills programme will help to address.  To further bridge the global cyber skills gap, the UK is also teaming up with CREST International – a non-profit organisation representing standards in the global cyber security community - to launch the CREST Cyber Accelerated Maturity Programme (CAMP). This Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) sponsored scheme will provide mentoring to cyber service providers to develop their capabilities, experience and skills in line with CREST’s standards, and bolster training. Countries in Europe, Africa, South-East Asia, and the Middle East have been invited to join as founding partners. The UK government is taking swift action to address vulnerabilities and protect the nation’s digital economy to deliver growth, by bringing forward the Cyber Security and Resilience Bill. This will strengthen the UK’s cyber defences, ensure that critical infrastructure and the digital services that companies rely on are secure. Wilton Park CEO Tom Cargill said: Cyber security is becoming harder, but also ever more essential. That’s why it’s vital that we have a strong international framework of standards for cyber professionals. Wilton Park plays a discreet but critical role in supporting the skills & knowledge required to protect and advance global freedoms, both on & offline, so we’re delighted to be hosting this dialogue aimed at building an effective and internationalised cyber security profession. "Ohhhh Jack is involved with the ally coalition ???"
yeah he founded it w his sister Rachel in 2013. That is why Jack always hosts the annual talent show (Matty took part in 2022). TS was a surprise guest during the Reputation era aka before the Lover/ faux activism era…
Oooohh interesting! I had no idea. For some reason I’ve know of the ally coalition but not of its relationship to Jack? Idk why I feel like that’s an important piece of info that I missed somehow lol. That’s cool though! Go Jack!

Thanks for your patience waiting for me to respond to our conversation from a week ago! <3 I just sent a separate happy birthday message but happy birthday again!!
Let's see so since we talked, I actually managed to make a few more bracelets! I'm focusing on making olivia + chappell ones since that's my first concert with bracelets next year. Have you made more since we last talked? Or have you worked on other crafts? I just saw your gorgeous painted vinyl case, which is so nice!
Re concerts - I think bleachers will do a west coat tour leg still! I just can't imagine jack not going to seattle / la at a minimum, but fingers crossed! Like you, I'm going to see olivia/chappell, holly, and taylor. I did get bleachers/samia and noah kahan tickets. And then also haley heynderickx and hozier. I'm more of a casual hozier fan but my best friend who loves fob is also a huge hozier fan so she's going to come visit, which will be so nice. And I'm strongly considering madison beer, which is a bit of a drive + a half day off work, but I absolutely loved her most recent album so leaning towards it. What are your favorite shows you've been to so far?
I have notion bookmarked to explore more soon! The aesthetic over functionality thing is soooooo relatable to me haha I was making a poster at work this week and spent way too long picking out and editing photos before I even thought about the other details. Also yeah omg I think I get a little bit more light here ~4pm or so for sunset but I'm so glad we're almost at winter solstice. Do you have any fun winter plans despite the lack of light?
Thanks so much for the support with post-grad recovery!! I will definitely try to grab some photos of my crafts in the new year (about to travel for the holidays so I'll be away from my final products for a bit). I might also have some decent bracelet photos from eras this year that I can dig up :) I'm glad your voice was (and hopefully still is) getting better! How's it going now? I think baking is kind of crafting! Just crafting with food stuffs.
Totally agree about the holly/muna collab - I'm so happy about it! And also just wanting to see muna live someday. I would also love for holly to do a feature on a muna song too and/or for them to write a fresh song together. Also agreed about both a bfl + 1975 collab for holly too! Fingers crossed! There are a few specific 1975 songs / styles I would love to see for holly (about you would be so good). I'd also love something with charli xcx (or charli + 1975 together since they're connected). Actually maybe bleachers for another collab. I think that could be interesting.
good morning!! 🤍 thank YOU for being patient while i reply as well! hope you're having a good week, friend!
since we last talked, i haven't made any bracelets, but i did work on the vinyl case a little more — realized using acrylic paint pens was much easier than acrylic paint! i actually also got a cake stand for my room (basically, i have a humidifier on my nightstand but i'm worried about water damage, so i got a small cake stand to put my humidifier on) and drew little bows with acrylic paint pens on that too!
i really hope bleachers will do a west coast leg! i'm also a bit shocked and have words with dirty hit about their tour :( i would love to see samia too!! i was catching up on twitter and saw that clairo was at the ally coalition talent show last night and was so incredibly jealous haha. and chappell will be so fun! the seattle opener for olivia is pinkpantheress, and i'm really excited to see her! i started listening to the most recent FOB album and i really like it, so i might make some bracelets for it too! hozier will be so fun! i don't think he's coming anywhere near me this leg which is sad :( i haven't listened to madison beer's new album — i should add it to my evergrowing list of people to check out! i would say sabrina carpenter, maisie peters, taylor swift and the 1975 have put on some of the best shows i've ever been to! what about you?
i had a few fun plans last week! and i went ice skating on monday which was really fun — i haven't been skating since i was like, nine? so it was incredibly humbling and also ridiculously fun. i'm not really sure what i have going on now; probably just seeing extended family and all that — and hopefully catching up on reads + crafts! what about you? safe travels!! 🤍
my voice is still kind of croaky but it's back! i had a facetime call with a friend last night and she was like "oh you're croaky" but at least it's back! and i can talk! thank you for asking 🥺
i would loveeee to see MUNA live too! they were in seattle for cap hill block party but that was the same weekend as eras so obviously i wasn't able to see them :( i would loveeee to see something in the vein of about you with holly — or even something like jesus christ 2005 god bless america; i could totally see her singing phoebe's parts! charli and the 1975 would be fun — i really like spinning which no rome is also on, but would love to see more of them together! bleachers would also be a really fun collab — especially now that bleachers is on dirty hit!
