Modern Romance Pt. 17

It’s an agonising four hour wait until I receive a reply, and I can’t even bring myself to look at it because I completely freaked out when I saw her username pop up. It’s 6am over here which means it’s 9pm the previous day back home, so she must have had a busy day if she’s only just seen it, and I really do need to know if I’m a dead man or not for uploading that photo… I open up the app with trembling fingers and press on notifications to see two from her when I scroll down the noticeably shorter list than would be on the other account, and focus straight on the comment.

Miss you x

That’s good, right? I don’t have long to think about it too much as a message from her interrupts my spiralling trail of thought.

-Are you awake? I googled what time it would be over there but didn’t know if you’d be up yet or not… Are you looking forward to your first interview and premiere? X

I start typing immediately, desperate to keep a conversation going for as long as possible between us, and I smile as I look up in the top left hand corner on whatsapp to see that she’s changed her picture to the one of me at the Tate Modern on the first day we met. It’s the gesture I need to stop worrying so much, at least for now anyway.

-Yes I am, 5 or 6 will be my usual wake up, just so you know ;) yeah, I’m nervous but excited for what’s to come. How was work? A late one I take it? How’s the instagram thing going? Xx

-Noted! You’ll have to let me know when the interviews are on youtube so I can see them :) everything will be fine, you have such a confident air about you when put in front of a camera, I noticed it at the Arts event, you’re a complete natural! Hmm, less said about work, the better… Requests seem to have died down a little thank god, luckily didn’t decline your brother though ha x

-You really don’t have to watch them, you know! Thank you, that’s really helped actually. How do you know exactly what I need to hear? I’m always on the other end of a phone if you do want to talk about it, please don’t hesitate to vent as much as you want. I think he should have been one of the people you did reject! ;) xx

-I want to, though. I’ve purposely avoided watching any interviews of yours so these will be my first… No pressure though ;) Ha, it’s a gift, I just know exactly what to say! Thank you, that really means a lot. Well I can always wait a couple of weeks and then delete him :P x

I don’t even realise that I haven’t stopped smiling since our conversation began until my cheeks begin to ache, and I move my jaw up and down to try and relieve the feeling as I think of an appropriate reply before I have to actually go and do some work.

-Can we video soon? I miss your face, and it’ll be unfair if you keep seeing mine in interviews yet I don’t see yours! I’ll always be here for you. Fuck it, delete him now ha xx

It’s difficult to concentrate as I sit opposite the interviewer and Miranda has to subtly nudge me when I miss my cue to speak.

“Have you taken any tips from the film for your own weddings?” the guy asks, and I can’t even remember his name.

“I actually married soon after we filmed this, so it was too late for me as everything was already planned out!” Miranda laughs.

“Not to be late, mostly,” I chuckle, “and to embrace everything about your other half.”

“Wise words!” the interviewer smiles; I really wish I could remember his bloody name, “and will your partners be joining you this evening for the premiere?”

“Yes, mine will,” Miranda beams, then they both face me as they wait for my answer.

“My girlfriend is back home unfortunately, but when it’s shown in London I’ll be sure to take her,” I grin, mainly at the word ‘girlfriend’ coming from my lips.

Is it childish that I want another question to be asked that would require me to mention ‘my girlfriend’ again? I sit through the rest of the interview with a silly smile on my face until we’re free to go and get ready for the premiere that evening, and I shoot off a text to let her know the first interview will be uploaded soon.

-

The next thing I hear from her is two days later, two days of no communication. That feeling that something is going on has come flooding back to me when her short reply finally pops up on my phone, and I’m only just going into the second week of being away. I reply straight away like last time but the conversation doesn’t flow like it did before, and the message hasn’t even been read. Is this cause for concern? What do I even do? I could ask Ben to check on her, or maybe even Owen, but would that be too invasive? Am I worrying for no reason? Being on the other side of the world is really not in my favour right now.

I read it over and over again, but no matter how many times my eyes scan over the phone screen, a reply to my message still doesn’t appear. Just as I lock the device and turn it face down on the bed it begins to ring and I hope that her name is going to greet me when I lift it, but instead it’s Owen.

“Morning,” I answer.

“Evening,” he replies.

“How’s everything?”

“Not too bad, the kids are fine, Kelly’s great, can’t complain can I? How is everything over there?”

“Yeah, it’s going well,” I sigh.

“Doesn’t sound like it...”

“It is, it’s just (Y/N). I hadn’t heard from her for a couple days then get a message today and now nothing again. It’s so difficult being this far away so soon after getting together, I’m worrying about ridiculous stuff and feel like I’m completely overthinking everything.”

“That’s natural for a new relationship, right? I was the same with Kelly. If she didn’t get back to me within an hour I thought she’d completely gone off me. She’s worrying just as much as you are, trust me. I actually rang because of (Y/N)...”

“What? Is she okay?” I ask as panic starts to rise inside me.

“Yeah, I just reached out to check in with her. She’s got loads of stuff going on with work at the minute, and-”

“You’ve never been a very good liar Owen. Is she okay?”

“Yes.”

“What did she say? What’s going on? Why the hell is she talking to you but not to me?”

“Like I said, I reached out to check in with her. Kelly’s planning a lunch with her at some point while you’re away. Now listen, she’s alright-”

“Owen!” I snap harshly, “I’m sorry. I just… This is killing me, it’s driving me to distraction.”

“Gwilym, do you trust me?” he asks with a sigh.

“Of course I do.”

“Then calm down. Everything is okay. The only reason she’s talking to me is because she doesn’t want to interrupt your tour, okay? If she drops in and out of contact then please just know that she’s alright.”

“And you’re not going to tell me what’s going on?”

“I can’t, I’m sorry. She’s being very well looked after though, so you have nothing to worry about.”

“Very well looked after? What do you mean? Has she had an accident? What the fuck is happening over there?!”

“Admittedly, that sounded a lot more comforting in my head… She hasn’t had an accident, she’s just being looked after. That’s it, I can’t say any more because Kelly’s giving me a look that says she’s going to kill me if I give anything more away. The bottom line is stop worrying, (Y/N)’s okay, and get on with your tour so you can get back here and we can all celebrate, alright?”

“Does (Y/N) know you were going to tell me this?”

“No, so please don’t set her on me as well!” Owen chuckles.

“Right,” I exhale, “fine. I give in. Just get Kelly to message me after she’s seen (Y/N) please.”

“Will do. (Y/N) will be in touch soon, I promise.”

“Sure. Thanks.”

“I’m only doing this because I love you, you know that right?” Owen asks.

“I know, I really do know that. Thank you, I appreciate it. I’m sure I’ll appreciate it more when I’m back and know the full story though...”

“She just wants you to focus on your work. Everything’s in hand over here, you go and show the world your talent.”

“She cares that much, huh?”

“’Course she bloody does mate! She didn’t even want to tell me, it was flipping hard work convincing her that sharing everything with me would put you at ease.”

“Hmm. Right, I’d better go anyway, need to get suited and booted again,” I sigh.

“Okay, we’ll speak soon.”

I hang up the phone and go into my photos where I find the one of me and her outside the Royal Academy, and I close my eyes as an overwhelming feeling of sadness overcomes me when I wish that I could go back to that moment; that perfect little moment where we were together and she confided in me, and I didn’t feel a million miles away. As I dress my mind begins to fire questions at me: how ill is she? Is this something that can be sorted? When did this happen? Is she in hospital or at home? Will I hear from her soon?

Silent Validations (Namjoon Oneshot)

A/n: In celebration of mono coming out today, I just had to type a little something up when I had the time~ Congrats to Joon on such a beautiful playlist, it’s literally everything and more.

Silence. 

It was the only thing that surrounded him at the moment, as he sat in his room, waiting as each second passed by. 

In a matter of minutes, Namjoon was going to release his new mixtape, his playlist. 

The silence somewhat haunted him, because it really only left him with his own thoughts. Would it be successful? Will people like it? Would it meet expectations?

Though his members reassured him that the playlist was more than ready to make it’s debut to the world, Namjoon couldn’t help but stare at the clock and think about what the world was going to say. 

These tracks were his raw feelings somehow in musical form. Would those feelings be heard to those who listen? He could only hope so. 

And sure, he himself has grown since first starting to work on the mixtape, but he still wanted to show the world what he himself has felt and gone through since starting till now. 

He glances at the clock at the bottom of his monitor and shuts his eyes when he realizes that it was 11:59 pm. One more minute to go. 

It still amazes him how nervous he gets no matter how many songs he releases. This time was probably the most nervous he’s ever been. 

He knew he shouldn’t immediately log into different sites and look at the comments that people leave. So he shuts down his monitor, just as the time turned to midnight. 

It was strange, he thought. He felt so much anticipation waiting till midnight, but now that it was here, it almost felt surreal. 

Fans around the world were probably streaming the song already, and he slightly chuckled when he saw the first notification on his phone was one from Youtube, letting him know that his music video was now uploaded. 

He wasn’t even going to see it for a while. 

There weren’t that many places he could escape to so late at night in France, so he settled to taking a nice long shower. He forced himself to think of anything but what people were probably saying about his music at the moment. 

He could hear his phone beep with a few notifications, probably from the members congratulating him. He can almost guarantee that Jimin or Taehyung was probably the first one to message him. 

After stepping out of the shower and wiping at the fog on the mirror, Namjoon stood there and just stared at the reflection staring back at him. And...the reflection smiled. 

The journey he took up till this point was....long to say the least. It was tiring, both physically and emotionally. But those exact experiences are what shaped his current playlist. And he hoped that at least one person out there found some comfort in his words. 

Now, in that moment, Namjoon felt a lot of things, but perhaps the most prominent emotion was...eagerness?

He was eager to meet the future and tackle it head on. 

Namjoon grabs his phone, smiling further when he realizes that both Jimin and Taehyung had texted him at pretty much the same time. I know them too well he thinks. 

He chuckles at the rest of the messages from various other people. His other members, Bang PD, other producers, and even his family. He was so thankful for these people to be willing to listen to his works as soon as it was released, no matter what time it was wherever they were. 

Namjoon decided to reply to everyone in the morning, when he could gather his thoughts more. 

He stumbled to bed, ruffling his wet hair hoping to get a few extra drops of water to fly off. 

He plopped down on the bed, groaning a little when his whole body relaxed into the comfort of his bed. He was tired, but he knew that sleep probably wasn’t going to come anytime soon. 

What could he do to pass the time?

It wasn’t really a question he had to think of the answer for too long, because there was really only one thing he really needed to do at the moment. 

He quickly unlocks his phone, settling into his bed further as he wraps himself under the thick comforter. 

He opens up his own personal, and rather anonymous instagram account. It was an account that no one knew who he was. Sure, he had another account for his family and close friends, but this was a public account that he opened up just for fun one day. He uploaded mostly random pictures from his travels, but none of them revealed who or where he was. Plus, he only really had like 15 posts and 73 followers. 

He wasn’t even sure how he got 72 of those followers. 

One though, he knew very well. Well, somewhat. 

One day as he was browsing through instagram, he had stumbled upon an account. It wasn’t anything special really, the pictures were actually pretty basic. But the captions are really what caught his eye. 

It was rare to see people express their feelings in such a raw form on social media. He read the caption of the picture he saw first, and it was obvious that whoever the user was, was having a not a bad day. 

But he opened up other pictures from the user, and each picture had a little caption of that person’s life and it was oddly entertaining to Namjoon to read through this person’s life through instagram. 

He started from the beginning, and scrolled through each picture as if going back in time on this person’s life. 

And the first time he actually found a picture of the person himself, it was almost as if time stopped. 

That person, that beautiful woman behind the screen, took his breath away. 

“Too all the new people who have stumbled onto my account and have stalked through the rest of my pictures, hello. My name is Y/n. It’s nice to meet you.” you simply captioned, causing him to chuckle at that time. 

He just knew, he had to talk to you. So he had immediately sent you a DM right there and then. 

He wasn’t really sure what to say, let alone if you’d even reply considering you had thousands of followers, but it was worth a shot. 

So he sent you a simple message. “Thank you for sharing your feelings”. 

It wasn’t till a few days later after he sent that message did he really have time to check his instagram. And much to his surprise, you had replied. 

“Thank you for taking the time to read about my feelings, stranger. I don’t know how many people actually read the sappy stuff on my captions, but thank you for doing so” you said. 

Namjoon just smiled as he typed up a reply himself. 

Fast forward to today, you two had talked frequently. And by frequently, you mean you two talked almost on a daily basis. 

Namjoon never thought he’d make an internet friend considering his job. But you had respected his wishes of being anonymous, as long as he promised he wasn’t some creepy stalker or murderer, which also caused him to chuckle as he read the message. 

Your online friendship was now a solid 3 years strong, and Namjoon found silent comfort in your words, not only through your conversation with him but also through reading about your life. 

Somewhere along the line, Namjoon had become your favorite person to talk to, and somewhere along the way, you had confessed that you were a fan of BTS.  Namjoon remembers freezing when he saw that message from you, slightly wondering if you possibly caught on about who he really was. 

But thankfully, you hadn’t. 

So Namjoon just told you that he himself had listened a little of BTS’ songs (which was the biggest understatement of the century) and he had asked you on multiple accounts of what you thought of the music. 

And at first, he was just expecting you to fangirl about the music and the members. But then again, you never failed to surprise him. 

When he first asked you what you thought of BTS, he could see that you were typing. But he never got a reply for hours. 

So when he finally got a response, he was surprised to see almost a small essay in his messages about why you appreciated BTS and their music. You had related their music to moments and experiences in your life, and Namjoon felt tears form in his eyes. 

Sure, he constantly read from fans about how their music has helped them, but he felt this connection to you after talking to you for so long, and he was so happy that in some way or form, he had helped you overcome struggles in your life. 

“Wow, I didn’t know they meant that much to you” He had simply said. 

“You have no idea what they mean for lots of people” you say back. 

So since then, following any release, he would ask you what you thought of the music. And you were brutally honest when it came to your feedback. Sure, most of it was good, but you had to speak on your preferences. Of course you’d prefer some songs over the others. 

He remembers when Hoseok had released his mixtape, you had all but bombarded him with compliments. It was strange, but Namjoon realized that he was slightly jealous by it. 

 He knew that you were probably awake and had listened to his playlist by this time, so he anxiously sent you a message. 

“So...didn’t RM release a mixtape today? What did you think?” he asked, trying to play it cool. 

A few seconds later, he saw that you had read the message. 

You: Honestly?

He felt himself tense at the reply. Did she not like it?

Joon: Yeah, what did you think of it?

He could see you start to type again, and he felt his heart beat faster as each second passed. Why did he feel more anxious now then when he was waiting for the mixtape to release?

You: Well stranger, it’s everything. 

Namjoon blinked at his screen. What was that supposed to mean?

Joon: Everything? What do you mean?

He waiting again anxiously as you typed, but this response was taking a lot longer than he would have liked. He almost wanted to yell at the phone as if to tell you to type faster. 

But finally, his phone vibrated with a response. 

You: I mean like... it’s everything? I don’t know how to explain it, stranger. The emotions in the songs are so... how do I put it... raw? I wasn’t expecting this kind of a sound for his mixtape, considering his first one. But this one is just... beautiful to say the least. I love it, I love it all. I finally got done listening to all of the tracks, and I honestly can’t even pick a favorite. The lyrics, those really hit home for me. And plus, have you seen the MV? It’s so... sad? So meaningful? I know they’re famous stars and stuff and it probably makes me a bad person for saying this, but knowing that he struggles too and felt these...painful emotions? It made me feel like I wasn’t alone, that even people like Kim Namjoon is just a person too. And also like how even does he and the company even have time for this? I’m sorry, I know you probably don’t want to listen to me rave about BTS all the time, but this playlist kind of had me in tears. It’s just... it’s amazing...to put it simply. 

Namjoon read your message one, and then once again. And again for good measure, as if the message was going to disappear as if it were on snapchat. Hell, he even took a screenshot of the message. 

Because in that message alone, he got everything he needed. He needed just one person out there to understand the things he was trying to say through his music, and he felt like you had done just that. It was the silent validation that he was seeking. 

So before he could even think of what he was saying he quickly typed,

Joon:  you have no idea what that feedback means to me. Thank you, sincerely. 

You:  why does my feedback on this playlist have anything to do with you??

And it was at that moment that he realized that he had slightly messed up. Sure, he didn’t give himself away, but it definitely made you suspicious slightly. 

Joon: I guess you just helped me see things through your eyes more clearly. 

He knew that sounded ambiguous af, but he knew that you wouldn’t really question it. 

You: Oh, gotcha. Not sure if it helped, but you’re welcome. 

Namjoon placed his phone on the nightstand after sending his goodbyes for the day, a smile still plastered on his face. 

Tomorrow was going to be a new day, and when he awoke, he would take the time to go through and read the comments of fans all over the world. But he knew that he had already got the validation he needed. 

Tomorrow was going to be a new day. 

Perhaps, it was one day closer to finally meeting you in person. 

One day closer to thanking you in person.

One day, closer to you.

From booksellers sorcerers and cyber-pagans. #SocialMedia #ModernPagans “Let your closest relationship be with the gods you worship and not with your social media”.

While it is true that I am very regular with social networks, for me it is inevitable because it is part of my job, managing the accounts of other clients for the two agencies with which I work keeps me very focused in the world of social networks, I graduated as a publicist in 2013 and my area is precisely managing profiles and social networks, and although it is difficult for me to keep my academic/professional life in my spiritual/professional life, I do my best to keep it that way and until now I think I have achieved it.

My Twitter account is permanently active, it is my window to the world, it is literally my way of doing catharsis, sharing with my readers, with my friends, with my followers who support me, it is my way of taking ideas from my head, sharing notes and thoughts, funny pictures, great places, etc... But I try to maintain a line and a firm position between both worlds and over time I have achieved a balance.

While my Instagram may be full of photographs of my candles and amulets, these are taken after the rituals, and mostly I do it to share the recipes with those who follow me, but not to show off, much less will they see me performing a ritual in a live Facebook, not by the intervention of the cameras, I really do not think that the device has any negative effect that I can not control, it is rather for two reasons that I think are quite logical, and which I have maintained against any argument that they have thrown me to defend the opposite.

First, for a topic of concentration, in the middle of my rituals, before and after them I like to feel focused on 100%, I do not tolerate any kind of distractions, and you can not give 100% of you, if 36% of your brain is busy focusing on the photo, the video and setting up snapchat filters.

Second, out of respect for my tradition, I'm not a Catholic, but I do not think Catholics go to mass and broadcast it on video, but I do not know much about their religion so I'm not really sure what I write here, and if They do, well, that's wrong. 

When you are in the middle of a ceremony or a spiritual session, you are having a private meeting with the creator gods of the universe, they descend to listen to you, look at you, encourage you, motivate you and encourage you to follow, listen to your complaints, your laments, and help you Heal in any aspect of your life that you need.

When you are reunited with the ruling god of your pantheon, you dedicate yourself to him or her, just as they dedicate themselves to you, and I do not think you can dedicate yourself 100% to them if you are focused on finding the correct angle of the camera for your Instagram post.

It is a matter of total respect and consideration, if I admire the American pagan community and its community of witches, it is that although they have all the facilities of the internet (much faster than you can imagine outside the USA) and make use of absolutely all social networks, they always seek to organize all kinds of talks, forums, events and festivals where they can meet face to face, celebrate the celebrations of the wheel of the year, perform all kinds of rituals in groups and long forums, talks and workshops to deal with various topics about the esoteric world and sorcery, and although it is true that we can find a lot of prejudice around, because there will always be those who only see the glass half empty and point out that all this is done only for money, beyond empty criticism, the money involved is not able to stain these events in any way, so far I have only attended the events organized in the state of NY, mostly by an agenda item, among other minor things, but to each of the events that I have attended I have found the same result: 

Sorcerers, magician shamans, and sorcerers with real trajectories, mixed with the common sorcerer, the sorcerer of the city, the apprentice who is entering this unknown world.World-renowned authors, many of whom we read in our early years in witchcraft and renowned as Judika Illes and Christopher Penczak, among many others who slip into these events to approach you and hold workshops, in addition, who does not want the opportunity to have signed a book of your favorite author?.

Believers and practitioners of all the diverse pagan and neopagan currents (Asatru, Wicca, Druids, sorcerers, etc ...) Mixed in complete harmony, interrelating, talking, attending together the workshops achieving a peaceful coexistence, thus demonstrating that all this war "who is better than who" and "who has the most beautiful altar" is only a vague idea that exists in the virtual world, but at the moment of truth, we are all part of something bigger than ourselves and that attracts us to these places to realize that if we are part of a huge pagan family that has not stopped growing.

Although I miss those times of going to the esoteric books section of the library, subscribe to the mailing lists of publishers waiting for their extensive catalogs of books to order the newest in the genre, although it was exciting to organize these forums of skype and yahoo where we saw each other's faces, I must admit that now the internet is available to everyone.

The internet makes us realize how big we are as a community, now we can participate in huge virtual forums of conversation, follow our favorite authors (and not to show off but now I'm even friends with several of mine on facebook), and keeps us abreast of the esoteric or spiritual events and organizations that interest us the most.

Likewise, and like the same magic, the internet has its respective pros and cons, is full of trolls, haters, pretty ridiculous memes and fake people with fake names and fake photos with which you must be very careful, in addition the internet unfortunately It supports and promotes piracy in large part, I had to leave several Facebook groups when I noticed that they were uploading files full of books by my favorite authors, at that time I was writing my first book for a small print shop In Venezuela, he was also working for the publishing company Circulo de Lectores de Venezuela, a company that literally sank with the rise of piracy and left a total of 3,500 people unemployed throughout the country.

Who does not miss those long Yahoo mailing lists, where people really wrote, and shared very broad thoughts and reflections, was something made for those who really like to read and study, many times I even print them, because Many of these emails that revolved around a common theme were almost books full of information that went through the filters of many people, and they were gold.

Now in the social networks are saturated with information, much of it information that you do not need, to the point of being overwhelming, and all this without mentioning that in social networks we limit ourselves (because if the post is very broad nobody reads it and nobody shares it) so you have to limit yourself to writing the whole idea in less than 200 characters.

Another problem that brings the internet to the pagan community, is that we find all these bookstore sorcerers, who have read a couple of books and believe they know everything, I have often encountered trolls that harass me on the internet trying to "correct my work" because it does not go with one or two books that they have read.

For example there is a lot with the subject of rituals and spells, you can perform hundreds of spells, and you can do them very well, and have the results you want, but there is always an egocentric to correct you, just to show you "how much they know "in theory, and not so much in practice.

Because to identify an herb, that anyone does based on photos and books, but go to cut the grass personally, dry it in your house and use it for your own spells, that's practice, and in social media times, that practice is worth gold, but not for those who follow you on social networks, but for you.

Yes, it is true that the internet has unfortunately given more power to haters and trolls, and now many people also write in a blog without knowing what they are talking about, so everything we find on the internet must be swallowed with an extra granite of salt, even now it is quite normal to meet people who come to chat with you at 5 am to evangelize and tell you that you worship the devil, understand, "why to bother going to knock on your door on a Saturday morning, being able to just open your chat window to bother you from the comfort of your home?".

Let's not forget that social networks also give us that positive look, that touch of positivism that we study so much in marketing, that "like", that "comment" that tells you that you are doing something right, that makes you believe that you are on the way correct, and that puts you in the same box of those pink characters who do whatever it is for the "like", the problem when people get used to it, when "like", that positive reinforcement you receive, is more important that the content you share, is the problem there, when people get so used to giving everything for that like, and without realizing it, they stop contributing real good material, just because they are focused on the likes, because many times the ego only he asks for more positive reinforcements.

But also the internet has allowed us to form huge discussion groups, these groups where some 5 thousand people are added but only 50 participate, but those fifty people are worth gold, and for those fifty people who are now only a click away, it is worth keeping our presence on the internet, to share the links of our favorite books, to invite others like us to these events of pagan celebrations in our country, and even to chat and share the details and experiences of our spells.

My story~

I will now share my story with DL (even if nobody asked me) Ok... Well... My story is quite funny (or at least I think so)

I was quite new in this world of animes and stuff.

I remember only watching cute animes, romance, school and magical girls. I also remember watching them at crunchy roll (long time ago xD)

It was a Friday night and I had just finished an anime called "Say I love you"(?) and I was like: "Well... What should I watch next?" And there's a small section on Crunchy Roll where are the recommendations "what other members watched" and in that section it appeared "Diabolik Lovers" and I read what was it about. Believe or not I thought it was an anime of lots of guys with lots of girls (like every boy gets his girl and so) and I was like: "It sounds good... Why not?"

Imagine the impression I got: I was used to cute school couples that were shy at first but very lovey-dovey as time goes by. I was shocked!! And mostly scared. Also angry with Yui like I was one of the people that thought she was useless and stupid because she didn't fight back! It was a creepy and terrible experience... I remember calling my best friend because I was alone, it was at night and it was raining (terrible combination to watch DL for the first time really). The fun thing is that I watched all the episodes till the end (a normal person would have stopped it the first second it scared them or crept them out) and I was like: "I don't want to know anything about this serie anymore!!"

The months past and I was into other animes. School was hard and back then vine still existed (😔). I had my account on vine and I followed many accounts that made anime edits. And you know how social apps work: they know what you like and recommend you something similar that you might like. So one day a savage DL edit appeared, BUT! It was from the second season (fun fact: I didn't know about this season to exist).

My first thoughts were: "Oh! That serie... I remember it! It was creepy!" "But wait! Now there are more people!" "Eh? What? Why does Shu dyed his hair black (Ruki) and why does Laito let his hair grow? (Yuma... Could you believe it?! I confused Yuma with Laito?!)" "Argh!! There are two Kanatos!! (Azusa)" I decided to ignore it but for strange circumstances more and more DL edits started to appear! Everyday I saw a new one! So many of them that I became fond of them and became interested and curious again. In a comment one person asked which anime was it and another answered it was "Diabolik Lovers: More Blood (second season)".

That was when all made sense and I looked for it! I saw again all the second season and even though the story was still confusing I enjoyed how Yui and Ayato were evolving!! (Guess that was the moment were they became my OTP). Still it wasn't enough for me to became a fan. Then a person (again in Vine) wrote that it was a terrible anime adaptation from the game! And I was like: "oh! So it is an adaptation from a game... How strange!" "Then I looked for the game and SURPRISE!! Is was only in Japanese! But another persons in Vine recommended to search for the translations on YouTube. I didn't waste a second and I looked for them. I found just the introduction from HDB and nothing more.

You thought I gave up? OF COURSE NOT!! Because I saw how different the story and mostly Yui were from the anime.

It took me WEEKS to finally gather a couple of channels in YouTube that uploaded the videos but most importantly the videos translated!

My first complete route I read was Laito's MB route (I gave up looking for the HDB) and soon followed Subaru's MB route as well! Then something magical happened and I found Pinkcase's channel in YouTube: she made translations of the game but in Spanish!! (Note: I was lucky I knew English but is way better in your mother language). Again another person (this time from YouTube) commented that many translations were available on Tumblr! And that's when I decided to open an account to look for the translations of DL!!

What a wonderful (hell) world I found!! I was so happy!! Once you found out about all the mysteries and backgrounds... It was impossible not to fell into this amazing story!! It's been 1 (almost 2) years since I've been here in the Tumblr fandom and 3 years since I've been a huge DL fan!!

Since the begging my favorite has been Laito (since the anime I loved his mysterious yet intriguing personality) and Subaru followed soon after I read his route. Then I loved Ruki's design but I was loyal to the Sakamakis (because for me they are the originals and the first ones that introduced (pull) me into this fandom (hell)). Then a miracle happened and I found Pink on Tumblr and later on she contacted me!! We became partners and I became a translator from Spanish to English from the game!! That's when I became also a fan from Shin (I hated him at first) when I carefully read his route in Dark Fate!!

And so that's how I'm standing here: a crazy fan in love with this small yet amazing fandom!!!

When people (my friends who knows about my love (obsession) to DL) ask me "why I love DL"? I always answer:

valentine’s day fluffy drabble - part of my ‘zayn as a beauty vlogger’ ‘verse. featuring gender fluid zayn/veronica and harry the adorable boyfriend. note: this is not intended to portray the only way for a person to be nonbinary or genderfluid- this is simply one interpretation. this drabble is told from veronica’s perspective.

BEFORE ANYONE ASKS: i don’t know, okay? this just... happened today.

It’s almost perfect but there’s something still wrong with the lighting. Since moving to her new flat in Norwalk, Veronica’s never been able to completely figure out the complicated overhead ceiling lights. She’s lucked into getting the perfect levels before but tonight, her luck seems to have run out.

It’s no big deal- there wasn’t really a video planned for tonight so her viewers aren’t going to be as critical as if it were one of her makeup tutorials. A quick update has more room for error.

“Hey, everyone,” she says into the camera, shifting so her shadow doesn’t block her features. Her hair tonight is long and curly like a Disney princess and her makeup is still mostly flawless even after a long evening. She catches sight of a bit of color outside of her lip lines and she wipes it away with another quick look to the viewer to check. “Just wanted to post a quick update.”

“I know it’s usually annoying when people come on YouTube and gush about their S.O.’s around Valentine’s Day- how many posts do we have to see, really?- but I think I’m becoming one of those people.”

He had the most panicked tone, too, like I was going to call it off right then and there. I didn’t mind, of course, because I’m a terrible procrastinator and had only just started getting ready. I got to take it slower and take my time- getting my hair just right, do you guys like it tonight?”

Veronica pauses again, tilting her head so the lights show off the different shades in her hair piece. It’s her most expensive one and her least favorite, if she’s honest, just because of the work associated with it. But she will never deny how pretty it is.

“I like it. Anyway, so we lost our reservation at the restaurant Harry had picked out- he won’t tell me which one it was but I’m sure it was ridiculous and we both would have been uncomfortable anyway. So we ended up going to a Chili’s, instead which- let me tell you a secret: you don’t need a fancy, prissy dinner with waitstaff in tuxes or anything ridiculous like that. Your everyday chain restaurant like Chili’s is going to be perfect- you’re comfortable already in the environment, you already know the food is good and they don’t give those tiny plate things, and it’s got the same Valentine’s Day ambiance and décor. It’s a hundred times better than any fancy place and probably half the price, too.”

Veronica sighs, irritated. “Not that Harry let me pay or even see the check. I tried to swipe my card on the kiosk- I know how much his gigs have been paying him lately- but he wrestled it away from me. Almost knocked our drinks over but he managed to keep his gangly limbs in check long enough.”

“After dinner- I had the Cajun chicken pasta but I skipped the garlic bread because I didn’t want to have bad breath, I knew I’d regret it,” she says, flipping her hair over her shoulder and shifting on her bed. “After dinner, we got back to his car and he gave me flowers and a box of chocolates he’d forgotten about. The flowers are a little wilted-“ she reaches out to pan the camera and show the slightly sad display on her nightstand behind her- “but they’re still lovely. The chocolate, on the other hand…” she laughs, bringing her hand to her mouth to keep the sound quiet. “Chocolate and black cars in LA don’t really mesh. They were almost completely melted and, I went to try one anyway because Harry had his disappointed puppy dog expression on, but I dropped it because it was so soft and it stained my dress.”

“Harry was so mad- at himself, not me obviously- and promised to have it dry cleaned. But I’m hoping you guys will have some suggestions. If not, I’ll search around on Google and figure out a secret. Not paying to have it cleaned when I can do it myself, right?”

“So my dress is- the stain is huge,” she holds up her hands, demonstrating the apple-sized stain now on the thigh of her dress. “And this is a really sexy dress, too. “He had planned on taking me out for drinks and dancing but I didn’t want to go with my dress looking like that and it wouldn’t make sense to come all the way back home here and change when we were already downtown. So we went driving around for a bit- I tried convincing him to just call it a night and chill together at home, but he was determined to have a night out.”

Veronica grins, waving her hands again. “He’s ridiculous. Finally, I told him to find a shop where I could buy something else to wear. We were right by a mall so we ran in- twenty minutes before close. The shop associates probably hated us but I’m pretty lucky because I found a pair of jeans I already know I like and a cardigan. I just dressed in the changing room and paid from the tags, keeping my slip on and putting the sweater over it. I think it looked pretty cute, if not so dressy. Harry got a few pictures of us in the before outfits and then in mine after. I’ll put those on Insta if he hasn’t already.”

YouTube today has turned into, among other things, a platform where personalities can make millions of dollars off weird DIY videos and beauty tutorials. It’s also home to plenty of funny videos, many of which involve children. One of the first viral videos was “Charlie bit my finger”; the clip of 3-year-old Harry having his finger chomped on by his 1-year-old brother has more than 867 million views. There was the video of then-7-year-old David after the dentist, who got high off nitrous in 2009, or a video of an adorable then-3-year-old girl named Cody, who cried because she couldn’t handle how much she loved Justin Bieber. Like these viral videos, there are hundreds of millions of hours’ worth of content about kids on YouTube, most of which is innocent. But child advocacy groups have spoken for years about the dangers of YouTube — and of the internet in general — when it comes to childhood safety, and it’s now starting to bubble to the surface as it’s become clear that these videos are not always being viewed with innocuous intentions. YouTube has clear rules against explicit content. In its outline of its nudity and sexual content policy, the company writes that “content meant to be sexually gratifying (like pornography) is not allowed on YouTube” and that “videos containing fetish content will be removed or age-restricted.” The company also says that “sexually explicit content featuring minors and content that sexually exploits minors” is not allowed. It says it reports content that contains imagery of child sexual abuse to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, which works with law enforcement. But as the Wired story points out, these people aren’t necessarily coming to YouTube to look for pornographic content, but are interested in the more innocuous type, like videos where children’s private parts are shown, both covered and uncovered, while doing exercise or playing games. People are leaving suggestive comments on the videos (which are mostly of girls, some as young as 5) and are sharing the timestamp of when this content is spotted. Per YouTube vlogger Watson’s assessment, the YouTube comments section is also enabling these people to communicate with one another. Child pornography “is being traded, as well as social media and WhatsApp addresses. YouTube is facilitating this problem,” Watson writes in the description of his video, explaining how these YouTube commenters are getting in touch with each other to share sexual content about children, making their network broader and more sprawling than just YouTube. The company also says it’s purged 400 accounts responsible for uploading videos that appear to be exploiting children, and deleted millions of comments. YouTube told Vox it constantly tries to kick users younger than 13 off the platform, and that it’s been trying to hire more child safety experts, including former CIA and FBI employees. Yet YouTube is still littered with hundreds of thousands of videos of children, and many of these still have problematic comments. I’ve spent a few hours this week doing my own searches on the site. I found that many videos of children playing have had their comments sections disabled; I’ve also seen some videos taken down. This is not the first time YouTube has gotten into trouble with advertisers. In 2017, brands like Verizon, Johnson & Johnson, and AT&T pulled their advertisements from YouTube and Google after it was revealed that their ads were playing alongside extremist content that promoted terrorism. Longways for results,” as he pretends to slice his arm. “I think it’s extremely dangerous for our kids,” Hess told the Washington Post about YouTube. “I think our kids are facing a whole new world with social media and Internet access. It’s changing the way they’re growing, and it’s changing the way they’re developing. I think videos like this put them at risk.” Searches for Peppa Pig and Doc McStuffins lead to knockoff videos of the franchises that are violent and inappropriate for children.
