in between humans, i don't always speak the language either. love has always been hard for me. i don't trust it. i can't read it easily on people's faces - i'm usually trying to read past it; to the "other parts", the ones that make sense to me.

but my mom always offers me food as soon as i get through the door. my brother calls me at weird hours, just to be talking. my sister has a nightmare; asks me to please drive safe in the morning. i throw my friends random parties, just to celebrate something. she drives 45 minutes to spend 3 hours with me. amelia holds my hand while we both cross the street.

no, my dog and i don't have the same language. so what? this is not the same thing as communication. my dog is a good study in how trauma can heal - a rescue from the racetrack; i've been watching his personality develop slowly. in the last year, he's gotten so comfortable with me that he'll ask me to sit down on the grass so he can use my body as a seat. (it's important to note: he is huge. he squishes me. i don't complain. i find it lovely.)

love for us is also just endorphins and behavioral response. i'm a poet, the number of sad men that have tried to "teach me" how stupid it is to be a hopeless romantic is ... not a low one. i cannot count how many times someone has argued - it's all chemical stimulus - as if the fact of it makes it less magical. we're just electrical signals reading the universe! that's fucked up. that's so beautiful.

i find it hard to believe that in the spectrum of evolution we are the only species to feel like this - we already know that dogs and cats also have endorphins. why wouldn't they experience joy? love? companionship? in what world is it a new thing that i had to earn it? in every relationship, both individuals have to work to learn the language. i had to teach my dog what trust is. it's okay that it took time for him to learn it.

in the human world, when i love someone, it's hard for me to speak it. i write them poems or make them food or give them a cool rock i found on the beach.

i don't know how to tell goblin i love him, so i tell him through treats. through a new collar, fancy mattresses, a little bow on his leash. i tell him with long walks and petting him and sitting down on the wet ground so my 70 pound sharp noodle of a dog can prance on my thigh bones and take an awkward - if loving - seat.

"you taught your dog to love you" is kind of a cruel way to reframe what actually happened: i loved him so loudly, it skipped over language and species. the two of us just saying - oh! i have figured out a way to tell you that you make me happy.

I like to creep around my home and act like a goblin

I don’t know why but I just enjoy doing this. Maybe it’s my way of dealing with stress or something but I just do it about once every week. Generally I’ll carry around a sack and creep around in a sort of crouch-walking position making goblin noises, then I’ll walk around my house and pick up various different “trinkets” and put them in my bag while saying stuff like “I’ll be having that” and laughing maniacally in my goblin voice (“trinkets” can include anything from shit I find on the ground to cutlery or other utensils). The other day I was talking with my neighbours and they mentioned hearing weird noises like what I wrote about and I was just internally screaming the entire conversation. I’m 99% sure they don’t know it’s me but god that 1% chance is seriously weighing on my mind.

okay imma be real, I used this as an excuse to write about monster! König because I'M NOT OKAY

I've seen someone on Twitter or tiktok say that König is just a barely domesticated alternate and honestly? Yeah <3

When I called Monster! Ghost a menace, then you haven't met König, absolutely shameless and nasty, the ultimate menace to society and you too, once you show him any sign of kindness you're not getting rid of him.

He's a shadow creature too but jesus christ he's terrifying. You know how alternates (from Mandela Catalogue) are almost always shown to be just those vaguely shaped dark masses lurking in the darkness with their eyes being the most pronounced feature? That's König. He's fucking terrifying, his wide eyes trailing after you from the dark tree line in the evening when you're doing some chores like last minute watering your plants or watching you from behind the curtains at night when you're entertaining yourself with a book or show.

It's honestly very unnerving, the feeling of someone clearly watching you but the second you turn around there's nothing there, yet you could swear you saw something move right in the corner of your eye.

As for König's and Ghost's rivalry, it's more of a 'who's more bold and cunning and who can hide better'. It's a dick measuring contest tbh. Ghost will boast about snatching some of your clothes and mocking the bigger male but then König performs the biggest 'fuck you' move and...reveals himself to you. More or less.

He comes to you one day as a kind of questionable creature, like a small land-octopus-something with huge begging eyes and you just can't leave it alone :(( You have no clue what this creature may be but your heart broke at the pathetic sight; the little one covered in bruises and dirt and making tiny hurt noises so you just had to take it in!

Of course just as you picked König up (his transforming ability finally coming handy) and carried him home to give him a bath and take care of his 'injuries' König looked over your shoulder and have Ghost the nastiest, most smug look he could manage in this form and he could almost hear the angry yells and bellows in Ghost's mind as he had to watch König snuggle closer to your breast :(((

it is also true that nature and the universe are uncaring and unspecific, and that is wonderful. the sheer happenstance that makes rain turn into a rainbow. the impossible coincidence of finding your best friend. i have made so many mistakes and i have let myself down and i have harmed other people by accident. nature moves anyway. on the worst day of my life she delivers me an orange juice sunset, as if she is saying try again tomorrow.

how vast and unknowing the universe! how small we are! isn't that lovely. the universe has given us flowers and harp strings and the shape of clouds. how massive our lives are in comparison to a grasshopper. the world so bright, still undiscovered. even after 30 years of being on this earth, i learned about a new type of animal today: the dhole.
